Random TriStamp thoughts of the day:
(Note: this is just me rambling and might be completely entirely off mark, I’m sure others have much more accurate analyses about this subject than me.)
So!
A lot of people have pointed out already that while Knives aligns himself with plants he is more like a human, and how Vash is kind of the opposite.
That made me think about how Knives claims to want a better existence for his sisters, but we only ever see Vash actually heal/’help’ dependent plants.
Which in turn makes me wonder, is it that Knives chooses not to heal them or that he can’t? Because that distinction says a lot about his character methinks (Burdened by his inability to help and how that might shape his choices VS he can very much ‘help’ but chooses not to because he’s past the point where he can see any other solutions but his ‘master plan’).
Like, Tristamp sort of went out of its way to bonk us on the head about how different Knives’ and Vash’s powers are in this version (that whole scene where Rem tells Knives to hide his natural abilities away and for Vash to proudly be himself (side note: Rem accidentally taught Knives a very bad lesson there didn’t she)).
I really got the impression that after Tesla was a ‘failure’ in integrating with humans- getting turned into a butchered experiment instead- whatever is causing independent plants to be born went “ok, let’s try that again but lets send a bodyguard along this time”.
Like, baby Knives makes fun of baby Vash for being ‘just like a human’ but isn’t that by design? Vash can blend in with humans easily and thus in theory avoid ending up like Tesla. Meanwhile Knives doesn’t require a lot of resources to live but he is really only good at stabbing things (and making snugly blankets) (Again makes me wonder if it is an active choice Knives is making or if he’s just a very specialized plant in this version. Something that inform a lot about his character depending on which one is the case).
Another thing that’s been constantly bugging me since I first watched Tristamp is how between the two of them, Vash is the one who instinctively(?) knows the song of the plants, while Knives doesn’t. Vash has to teach it to him, which really emphasizes the disconnect between Knives and plants.
So, what gives?

Okay, actually, all the feminine clothing sucks. They have absolutely no reason to wear so many layers. Why are they wearing leggings all the time? They don’t have air conditioning, presumably the temperature between rooms is consistent. And they spend a bunch of time outdoors. The girls also almost always have a jacket or some sort of over layer on in art? They don’t wear sun glass or veils or anything that darkens their view, which is extremely needed considering their entire society is built around as much light as possible. They wear their hair down. Again, it’s warm everywhere, keratin (because presumably their hair is made of keratin) makes your neck freaking sweaty.
Also, all their clothes are so plain? Why? They presumably have lots of leisure time and enjoy pretty thing, get yet embroidery is minimal? They wear jewels sewn onto their clothes I believe ? Which isn’t practical? They don’t seem to wear anything under layers except a skin layer and maybe a fabric skirt support? Do the jewels not make the fabric warp and sag?
How does anything get washed because they don’t have washing machines, and their formal stuff is ballgowns? Do they wear linen next to their skin to prevent washing? Where is the material for the clothes coming from? How is their clothing woven? How is it dyed? Who sews the clothing? How can you just buy dozens of dresses casually? Why do the dresses fit?
Why are they not wearing as little clothing as possible to get as much sun?
(Sorry for the rambling, nothing about their clothing makes sense)
No no, I like rambles! I think its Like That because the target audience is 8-12, but that doesn't mean it's the best choice. Can you recall any moment when a character wore shorts or had exposed legs at all? All I can think of are Fitz's running shorts that once in Nightfall, and maybe the deleted swimming scene in Neverseen. Like why do they need 100% covered legs 100% of the time, 8-12 years olds also wear shorts and skirts without leggings under them. Sometimes their calves show. Quite frequently actually. It's so odd.
So its not made to match their world, but to fit with our world. Being careful about how they dress 12-16 year olds. To the point that it's unrealistic. Sure, some 12 year old only wear leggings, but a whole society like that?
The feminine' clothing's definitely worse (in my opinion), though I dislike all of it. I could understand it more if it was decorated! Though full disclaimer, that may be more the art itself than what was described in the series; but, to me, it doesn't seem like much of it is too fancy even in canon? Unless you count jewels sewn in as fancy--which it can be! But it's all they do, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern or artistry to it? It's just "jewel encrusted" like what does that MEAN give me MORE
I think the answer to "how is it washed?" "who makes it?" "where do the materials come from?" and all that is probably: the gnomes. The elves really are completely reliant on their species. Except for the dresses fitting, which can be answered with plot convenience.
Realistically, elves lives in all sorts of different climates. I'd expect a range of styles to represent that--or, since they have rapid world wide transit, for their clothing to be very layered/easily added to or subtracted from or altered to suit whatever environment they're going to. Though I do very much like the detail about them wearing little to absorb the light--in that case, I'd fit right in. And I'd also expect that the jewels on their clothing would be more elaborate than just "encrusted", it feels cheap
Overall, I think it's because of the intended audience. Though whether or not their attire appeals to 11 yos I don't know. But the modesty I can understand, even if I think it's taken a step too far (they deserve shorts, skirts and dresses without leggings beneath them goddamnit). it's soft world-building, which is fine, I just prefer rigid worldbuilding. and this particular gripe is exacerbated because the clothing is actively hostile to my personal likes and needs

Why didn’t anyone tell me that writing fanfiction can get out of hand quickly??
Like, I’m currently writing four fics. Four. All at the same time.
I have One Choice Makes A Million- the new long fic I started, then I have The Ultimate Mystery Incorporated- a scooby doo type crossover with DR1, though it doesn’t take a lot from scooby doo, only like two things.
Those are my main ones, but I also have the backstories to The Ultimate Mystery Incorporated- it has some lore, though the last chapter will literally just be a lore drop- and then I have the Byakuya backstory rewrite, A Legacy Will Be Crowned.
And that’s without all of the small one-shots I’m planning to write.
I mean, fanfiction is the whole reason I’m writing a whole book for a school project. Yes, you read that right. A school project.
It’s a very big project though. Like most types of high schools in my country does that project. You basically have to pick a subject and do a massive project around it. I have to spent at least 80 hours on it. I did get lucky and am starting this year (well, this school year. I’m starting begin February) instead of next year, so I have more time.
And bc of fanfiction, I’m writing a book in English... which isn’t even my first language. Not only that, but I’ll also be using some small elements of The Ultimate Mystery Incorporated in that book. A book that I plan to eventually self-publish.
All bc of fanfiction.

sorry but ppl on the internet are so naive when they genuinely believe the majority of people "hate capitalism".... that isnt anywhere near the truth. most people are sheep that just go along with what society says is right. when im out there and talk to "normal" people and listen to their convos they are literally pro capitalism. they talk about how the 8-5 work day 5/week is GOOD bc they get to work a lot and make "a lot" of money. many people will complain about unfair work hours and too big of a work load but they dont do anything more than complain... they wont vote for the left, they wont join unions, they wont stage protests or demonstrations... most ppl are like "omg fuck capitalism lmao ahhhaha fuck capitalism am i right???" but they still dont actually do anything to change it... because the entire point with capitalism is that it is comfortable and convenient. netflix and spotify is capitalism. ordering takeout is capitalism. having packages arrive to your door or close by is capitalism. concerts by your fav artists is capitalism. flying a plane to resorts all over the world is capitalism.... ppl only say "fuck capitalism" bc yes they're overworked and underpaid, but they dont actually want to live in a society without capitalism. it would mean a profound change of our entire reality as we've known it for centuries. it would be extreme. it would actually feel like it does in movies where the world is ending and society resets. it's too scary to actually go through with, and no one wants to do that. saving the planet and tearing down capitalism... would mean an extremely different world and life. no more driving your car to work and to the store and to the gym and back and forth to your parents or friends. no more going to multiple concerts every year. no more going to luxury resorts in ibiza or greece. no more online shopping. no more ordering takeout. the truth that nobody wants to admit, because no one wants to admit that they would choose to continue living in comfort even if it means destroying this planet, is that no. you dont hate capitalism. not truly. most people do not hate capitalism. if most people did... we wouldnt have the world we have now and always have had since capitalism was introduced. humans make this world. we get the world we deserve. and nature trying to kill us is what we deserve. it's like when we're sick and our bodies get fever to burn the virus. we are a virus. we could choose to stop. but we dont. only a small handful of people are willing to actually do what it takes to save earth. most ppl who make silly comments about oh my god fuck capitalism tihihihihi are not part of that small amount of people. it is sad, especially for the people who do get it, who do want to save earth, because we are such an extreme minority we have no power at all. the masses win. and the masses have chosen to live in greed and consumerism and comfort even if we'll pay the highest price thinkable.
