don't you want to be a cult leader? - danyal al ghul au

this is mostly a joke post but i thought it was funny and had to share so--

his first mistake was, obviously, inheriting his father's inability to see an injustice and stand still. -- actually, danyal's first mistake was his lair being so big. a mountainous island with a large temple in the center resembling his old home in Nanda Parbat? With sprawling foliage and rivers and streams and waterfalls galore? What was he going to do with all that space? Let it go to waste? He had plants there! Native trees of the ghost zone growing from the soil! He couldn't let it all be left unchecked!

So naturally after helping a fellow teenage assassin ghost -- who he later learns is named Akihiko, -- from Walker of all people, he sent them over to hang low at his lair until it was safe enough for them to wander around the Zone. Walker couldn't get through Danyal's astrofield if his life depended on it, and trust him -- he's tried. Danny was clearing out debris from his stupid transport vans for weeks.

Honestly it wasn't so bad, he and Aki really quickly became fast friends and Danny loves having a sparring partner close to his level again -- he hasn't had this much fun fighting since he left the League. Aki was very dedicated and levelheaded, the both of them clicked really well because of it.

Nonono, the real trouble began after Danyal met some long-passed League members and allowed them to come join his island as well. Apparently they had made a few enemies of the zone, and maybe Danyal still felt some loyalty to the League. He couldn't just let them be left to rot. Their zealotry could be overlooked so long as they kept it contained and helped him take care of his island.

And it.. snowballs from there? He meets a teen squire aptly calling himself Ambroise -- whether that was his living name or not is yet to be seen -- who died during feudal france, who is just about as dramatic and passionate as every french stereotype makes them out to be. He calls Danyal "my moon and great muse" -- which is both flattering and little uncomfortable, but Danyal's grown up in the League as the Grandson of the Demon Head, he is used to mild worship. he passes it off as nothing more, nothing less. -- and while his energy is overwhelming on the worst of days, he helps Danny draw out of his shell more in ways that Sam and Tucker still struggle with.

Him and Aki butt heads a lot, but the two seem to hold the other in at least some positive regard, so Danny doesn't worry too much about them fighting while he's gone. It only becomes a mild issue when Aki also begins calling Danny "my moon". It's a little sweet, so Danyal brushes it off.

Then he takes in a troupe of ghosts some time after he defeats Pariah Dark and they begin calling him "great one" just as the yetis do in the far frozen. This is where he meets the twins -- a pair of sibling ghosts who call themselves Trixie and Missy (short for Trick and Mislead) -- who aren't quite as passionate as Ambroise but more energetic than Aki. Eventually they also start calling Danyal "my moon" and attach themselves to his hip, even within the living. They like to hide in his shadow and cause trouble for the rest of the students. He makes sure they don't hurt anyone.

He's pretty sure Aki is jealous, same with Ambroise, but he can't be too certain other than the fact that they become much more lingering (re: clingy) whenever he visits the island.. Something he's trying to do much more often these days due to the increasing amount of people living there now. Since when did he become so popular?

Then there's Pēnelópeia from the Greater Athens, who ran away from home and joined his Island after he ran into her while she was being chased by Skulker -- and he's pretty sure the reason was because of her chimeric appearance. Her strange eyes and mismatched wings and lion's tail and talons. She assimilates into his friend group very easily, she gets along well with Ambroise and Trixie and Danny usually finds the three of them climbing the trees to pluck the most fruit from the top. They can fly and he knows it, but they prefer to climb.

Then finally there's silent poet Akkara who comes from ancient mesopotamia, who gets along most with Aki -- which is no surprise there considering their similar personality dispositions. he watches Aki and Danyal fight each other and leaves comments on this or that that he notices. He writes Danyal poems on clay tablets and leaves them by his room.

They're one big mismatched group of outcasts, and Danny's got the other ghosts on his island to tend to, because they're living on his island and he wants to be hospitable even if he struggles with that. But he spends the most of his time with them.

Sam and Tucker are making fun of him. Tucker jokingly tells him 'careful Danny, at this rate you're gonna start a cult'. Danny really wishes he had taken that joke more seriously.

He just. keeps. collecting people. Wayward souls lost in the zone, looking for shelter or refuge from something or other -- whether that be another hostile ghost, or a past afterlife, or just a purpose. Danyal finds them, he takes them in, offers them a place on his island until they are ready to leave. Many seldom do. He's not complaining -- he has the space, and it feels like it's only ever growing.

His close friends, his "inner circle" as he's heard the others call them, keep insistently calling him "my moon". He starts calling them his stars, because then it only feels fair. They're his stars, this is his constellation. It becomes a thing; little star halos begin forming behind their heads, picking them out from the rest. He loves them so much, it's hard to place. Sam and Tucker are also his stars, but they reside in the living realm, they're his tie to Life. Meanwhile, his friends here know what it's like to be dead, and sometimes its nice to relate.

Those living on his island keep calling him "Great One" and he's beginning to notice zealotry in their care for his island. He really, deeply appreciates it. His close friends gain nicknames -- as his stars, it's only natural for him to pick them out from the cluster in the skies. Akihiko, his Sirius and bright star. Trix and Missy, Castor and Pollux, the twins and troublemakers. Ambroise, his zealous Antares and close friend. Penelopeia, chimeric and loyal Vega. And Akkara, his Arcturus and strength.

It's ridiculous how long it takes for him to notice; he is, of course, a deadly trained assassin. He is meant to be observant -- and normally he is! But somehow this becomes a blind spot. One that becomes too big to be dealt with by the time he realizes it.

He should've noticed when Aki, his Sirius, stood beside him one day while Danyal looked over his island and saw the sprawling spirits carrying on about their afterlife and bowing to him as they saw him, and said: "I looked down into the depths when I met you; I couldn't measure it." They aren't one for flowing prose, it took him so off guard he was silent for over a minute before he finally spoke.

Danyal should've recognized devotion for what it is, and yet he didn't. He should've recognized it when Antares began spouting praises about him, crowing about his radiance and resplendence to the heavens. He just brushed it off as Ambroise being Ambroise. He should've recognized it when Trix and Missy nearly broke Dash's leg after he knocked Danyal's books out of his hands, he excused it as them being protective. Of them coming from times where such violence may have been customary -- after all, that's what he used to be like. What he was still like, sometimes, when his emotions nearly got the better of him.

He should've noticed it when the people living on his island followed his word like gospel, looked at him like he hung the stars in the sky. When his friends gifted him a shawl with the moon phases delicately embroidered into it, with silver, shimmering thread and moving stars lovingly stitched into it. Their constellations seen clear as day in the dark fabric. When he found small shrines dedicated to him -- but they lacked any image of him beyond stones carved to look like moons, so he ignored it. When the religious imagery began popping up.

He really, really should've noticed it when a bunch of cultists accidentally summoned Antares, and Antares had turned to him when he arrived and called them heretics. But he was so centered on the fact that they had kidnapped one of his stars, that he hadn't paid much attention to what Ambroise had said.

Sages say that faith is blind, they should also say faith in you is even blinder.

It really only hits him one afternoon while he's sitting in Sam's room studying with Tucker, Missy and Trixie lounging at his feet, Aki sat on his right, Penelopeia braiding his hair, Ambroise draped against him, and Akkara lurking over him. Its one of the rare few times they're all in one room together.

It hits him like a bolt of lightning. He looks up from his textbook. "Oh Ancients," he says in no amounting shock. Everyone looks up to him.

"I've become my grandfather."

The Ishigamis and The Gifts of Science

Dr. Stone is a love letter to humanity and its sciences. The main character, Senku, often acts averse to all forms of affection, and the only love he doesn't deny is his love for science. But Senku is so so full of love. He just expresses it in a way other than physical touch or words of affirmation. He gives.

But let's go back to the one who taught him so– Byakuya Ishigami, his father. The love of Senku's life.

Byakuya is introduced in the tenth chapter of the manga as a dotting father who sells his car to present Senku with scientific instruments he will need for a more efficient research. This car is Byakuya's means of transportation, and given that he is crying and shaking in this scene, it could not have been easy for him to lose it. But his love for Senku is so big, that he wants to support his son's passion even if it means sacrificing a great convenience for him.

And Senku? Senku truly fell in love with science at this moment.

If there is anything that Senku is, he is Byakuya Ishigami's son through and through. They may seem like two very different people, as Byakuya is an openly affectionate guy while Senku is more closed off with showing his true emotions. But Senku takes more from Byakuya than not, and one of them is by showing his love and/or care for others through giving the gifts of science.

And it starts with Byakuya.

Byakuya had failed his first attempt at being an astronaut ten years back, but he doesn't give up and tries again. Senku then creates a bodysuit that manipulates muscle movement to help Byakuya pass his swimming test. And while the bodysuit doesn't quite help Byakuya to swim, the thought Senku had put into it had motivated Byakuya more than ever to pass the test. This is one of the fundamentals of gifting– sometimes, it really is the thought behind it that matters.

This motivation is what Byakuya credits during his interview with JAXA for passing the tests. He understands that Senku might not have given him any words of encouragement, but this bodysuit was all the words that were needed between them. Senku wants Byakuya to achieve his dreams just as badly. It's the way Senku shows his love for his father.

And it's the way Senku shows his love for others too.

One of the primitive aspects of the Ishigami village is that it considers bad eyesight as a type of "disease". Fuzzy disease, to be exact.

Suika wears a melon mask at all times to help clear her eyesight, which Senku later reveals is due to the pinhole effect. She, however, has never told Senku or the others about having the fuzzy disease. Senku himself notes how odd it is for her to wear a melon around, and confronts her about it once he decides to create glass. This is one of the most beautiful scenes in Dr. Stone, as Suika finds out that her disease was never a disease, and is finally able to see as clearly as the others. Senku basically gives her perfect eyesight, something she didn't even know was possible before.

One of the most beloved people in this village is the priestess, Ruri. Two of Senku's new friends, Kohaku and Chrome are deeply affected by her unknown fatal disease. Senku is such a person who would help a stranger even if there is no benefit to do so (though he would never admit to it), what more a person who his new friends truly love and care about. He cures Ruri of pneumonia, giving her a chance to live a life without the worry of it being her last day every day.

Senku forms an alliance with Gen, who plays the role of Tsukasa's spy, for the promise of a bottle of cola. Both Senku and Gen are aware that the cola is only a front for Gen's loyalty to Senku and the Kingdom of Science, for Gen needs his superficial reputation as a comfort and cannot simply join them if there is no personal benefit for him to do so.

This cola is also the first gift post-petrification that Senku brands himself on, probably because it represents the first gift that is not out of necessity and leans toward a comfort/luxury that they both used to enjoy in the modern world.

For a modern man such as Gen, drinking his favourite soda in the stone world might have been one of the happiest days in his life.

Senku cares about people so much, even if the people in question have tried to kill him. Senku sees Homura as a soldier who is merely following the orders given by her leader, but he also sees the Homura as a lonesome girl sitting by herself on trees day and night.

As usual, Senku hides his kindness and care by showing an evil ulterior motive, such as turning Homura to their side using the cotton candy, but Ruri points out that this is a facade. Similarly to Gen, a person with such an ego is unable to seem as if he is doing something good out of the kindness of his heart.

As winter approaches, the elders in the village are worried about losing people to the cold. Senku hears about this and creates a stove which has a multi-purpose of cooking and also radiating heat for the people to stave off the coldness of winter. And speaking of winter...

[Christmas Acquired!]

Senku hangs up lights in the tree for the "light bulb test" on a random night. Except the date isn't random at all and he drops enough hints for Gen to catch on that it is the night of Christmas. The significance of the day is only appreciated by Gen and himself, as they are the only modern timers in the village. It is for the sake of nostalgia, but Senku would rather be caught dead than admit that he is a sentimental guy with such irrational feelings.

And well, it all comes back to that scene with Byakuya, doesn't it? If you recall, Byakuya calls himself "Santa" while giving the scientific presents to the young Senku. This indicates Senku received them during Christmas. Which means... Christmas is a sentimental day to Senku and his father. An anniversary of Senku receiving his Christmas presents from Byakuya, which led to his deeper dive into his science obsession. The beginning of it all, one would say.

And even though he's dead and buried, Byakuya never stops giving. He gives Senku the Ishigami village to provide Senku with allies. He gives Senku Lillian's music, because he believes in the light of music and understands the importance of media to society. He collects platinum till his last breath, because he believes that Senku will need it someday. Byakuya keeps on giving to Senku, because his love for his son is so huge and unconditional. And because he promised.

Surely, there is no greater love in the manga than Byakuya's love for his son and Senku's love for his father. Byakuya could easily win ten billion best father awards... well, not like there's much competition for that in shounen mangas.

In your Bingqiu Baby LOTR AU, Shen Hengxia takes after SQQ in liking cool beasts and delicious food, and Bingqiu's second kid takes after LBH in that he fell in love with someone older and nearly caused a war while courting them. I'd like to hear what happened with bingqiu son and his love story :D

Bingqiu's son (Luo Yu'en) fell in love with a widowed mortal princess during a diplomatic tour in the capital. The princess (Xia Yunqi) was first married at the age of 18, widowed shortly afterwards, and then pressured to remain at her in-laws' home in spite of the fact that her father (the emperor) would have welcomed her back, as she had no children with her husband. Her in-laws wanted to maintain the advantages they received by having a di princess (born to the empress, as opposed to one of the emperor's concubines) living in their household; but since Xia Yunqi recovered from her husband's death fairly quickly, her father-in-law confined her to an isolated courtyard and only allowed her to return to the palace during festival days in case she became interested in another suitor and tried to leave.

One of these visits happened to coincide with Cang Qiong's official visit to the palace, and Luo Yu'en caught sight of Xia Yunqi during the welcome banquet and fell in love on the spot.

Two days later, he baked a batch of Shen Qingqiu's favorite pastries and brought them to Xia Yunqi. She loved them, so Luo Yu'en asked to join her household as a pastry cook; and when she told him that her in-laws only allowed her to hire female servants, Yu'en told her that he would live as a woman for as long as she wished to keep him by his side. He ran away to Xia Yunqi's married home the next day and spent the next two years disguised as a female cook in her courtyard; but they began an affair very shortly after he joined her household, and were forced to flee for Cang Qiong when Xia Yunqi's mother-in-law discovered that Yunqi was pregnant. After they ran away, the mother-in-law also discovered that the "pretty kitchen-maid" who made Xia Yunqi's favorite cherry-blossom cakes was actually the part-demon son of the cultivators who visited the capital some years earlier, which led to:

the in-laws accusing the emperor of colluding with the demon realm in order to make an illegitimate marriage alliance with Cang Qiong

the emperor severely punishing the in-laws' household, which led to both families' respective supporters nearly resorting to civil war

both families demanding answers from Cang Qiong (after the emperor and Yunqi's father-in-law calmed down)

Tianlang-jun misunderstanding that the emperor intended to go to war with Cang Qiong and reacting accordingly

the emperor believing that Cang Qiong was colluding with the demon realm in order to trap him, and (again) reacting accordingly.

Everything was resolved when Yu'en and Yunqi actually made it to Cang Qiong, but YQY and SQQ barely kept open war from breaking out while they waited for the couple to show up. Dx

honestly i should really make names for them SOON... i struggle w names esp when theres contextual conventions for them. i mean i should have more experience w this cus my ocverse ive been working on for like 7 yrs has EXTREMELY similar conventions (most characters name themselves, which leads to names like 'zeltaveen' and 'doba') but also ive only named a Few of the many characters from that over the years... that ive condemned most of them to abstraction before even coming up with a name for them feels particularly cruel, i simply just Dont think about names fast

ok admittedly im not THAT insane abt ipods yet (but give me a month or two and i might be) but im kindasorta getting into collecting them so i wanna talk abt the little bit ive learned from that

i started out looking for gen 4 nanos bc i had an orange one as a kid (which i tried to get back from my parents but apparently they threw it away. rip) i wound up getting this listing for two ipods- one silver nano and one pink shuffle, bc they were dirt cheap overall BUT the seller v clearly didnt know anything abt ipods so it was a gamble

the nano worked! but only when plugged in cuz i guess the battery's too old. which is a shame bc it's otherwise in perfect condition, it's not even scratched anywhere. the shuffle worked even better, but it was pink and that's like the one color i didnt want an ipod in lmao. i named it breakfast bc it's pink and then i immediately got attached to it lmao

i wound up sending breakfast to packtion since they wanted to try an ipod too, and also bc i had ordered a second nano already dkfghk. this one works near perfectly (the hold switch is kinda busted but whatever) AND it's purple. which is my favorite color but it's also specifically my favorite ipod nano color bc depending on the lighting it can often look more blue than purple and i think that's a sick optical illusion. this one is named nova, and it's become my go-to for music listening now. i havent named the silver one bc im hoping i can sell it but nobody seems interested in my broken ass son sadly lol

ok now here's a fun fact for you since you read this far. apparently the ipod nano is like The Worst ipod to collect, especially gen 4 dkfhgk it's mostly because nanos are extremely hard to mod/repair given how small they are, so a lot of issues that can spring up w age aren't considered worth the effort to fix. this means if you have an ipod that's busted, it's an uphill battle to get it fixed, and also if you're searching for one online you have to keep an eye out for signs it might be broken. also since theyre so tiny if the battery inside swells even a tiny bit the screen starts getting fucked up bc it's already pressing against it lmao. sickly ass devices but theyre adorable so im gonna buy 80 more of them

by the way I think we should just decide that every single story that's in a setting that's Weird™, you know, that's unsettling™ - they all exist in the same universe. Yes, all of them, on an Earth that is massive and warped from the strain of having so many realities together, all of them.

There's a weird island off of Michigan where some deities are playing bad monopoly and there's a desert that sometimes appears where terrible scenarios lead into restaurant ads and there's a run-down dinky museum of fake spectacles surrounded by real ones and there's a gas station that smells terrible with a cowboy ghost in the bathroom and there's a world in a dream about a flame in an oil lamp and there's a facility that holds all the creatures that it can and there's a universe behind the walls that holds all the creatures that the facility can't and there's a frat house of weird retired serial killer creatures and there's everything that's going on with Magnus Archives and there's my dumb little fictional town there too and as many analogue horror shows as you can dream of and and and and

an uncountable amount of people die horrifically every day and no one bats an eye, and love prevails occasionally, and all the gods and demons and deities and eldritch beasts bicker and scream over dibs and territories. And slowly they all bleed in together until no one can tell what's happening at all anymore. The Apocalypse of Apathy, with everyone simply closing their eyes to wait for tomorrow, since everything is always normal tomorrow. It always resets, just to die again, but it always resets.

anyway if no one writes that i might be forced to. That's all.
