It's always funny to see someone getting really mad about people assuming they're American when they live in, like, Ontario. Girl you're literally the same. Pick a struggle.

I've never been in a city that seems so aggressively opposed to its citizens getting from one part of it to another part of it than is Toronto.
Like yes, the TTC sucks; we all know that the TTC sucks. So you think, "I don't know; maybe I'll take a car." You fool! You idiot! Now you're on the 401! Did you think that this would let you go places faster? Ha! HA-HA! SUCK FUMES, IMBECILE! Hope you like moving ten centimetres every 30 seconds for the next 20 km! Oh, you're going to cycle? You're going to walk? Where, bitch? WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS? ON THE TRAFFIC-CONGESTED FREEWAY? IN THE SPRAWLING LABYRINTH OF SUBURBAN ROADS??? You're not going to cycle, don't fucking lie to yourself, and also the app for renting bicycles DOESN'T FUCKING WORK! How do you like them apples!?!

Canada is a really hard place to be right now. I know all the privileges we have but like most people cannot afford to own a home or rent an apartment. People are drowning in debt trying to live a lifestyle they cannot afford. People can’t afford groceries.
Several of our provincial governments are trying to strip away queer and trans rights (specifically for minors) as populism and fascism creep further into our politics and fear mongering finds its home in our society.
Certain provincial governments are trying to undermine the public education system and our post secondary institutions are under funded and mismanaged. The quality of education is decreasing rapidly.
My province is trying really really hard to underfund and undermine the public health care system in favour of a private one. 2.3 million people in Ontario don’t have a primary care physician. That number will double to 4 million by 2026.
Idk I’ve been watching the shrinking of the middle class and the way politicians (backed by huge corporations) have been stripping away our rights and freedoms for as long as I can remember.
And no one seems to notice or care bc governments distract people with nonsensical threats and fake issues like “queer/trans brainwashing” and no one pays attention to real issues bc they’re all afraid of the boogeyman. It’s exhausting
And they’re going to elect Pierre poo poo face who is homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and is backed by big oil companies. he has often proposed electoral reforms that favour the Conservative Party. He has openly insulted indigenous peoples on days of reconciliation. And he has stated that bitcoin will help solve inflation???
I can’t believe this man is going to the prime minister of Canada

this might be a dumb and highly specific pet peeve but i really hate the (very common) career advice given to stem majors in Canada (especially IT/CompSci and nursing students) that we should all get TN-1 status and live/work in the US for the higher salaries, lower cost of living and lower taxes (which does objectively make it easier to build wealth)
idk i just feel like this kind of career advice really only applies to/helps if you are a (preferably rich) cishet neurotypical ablebodied white man
like yeah sure I, an openly queer woman with adhd should TOTALLY move to the borderline theocracy with a shortage on my meds right next door great idea

Toronto Star publisher Nordstar Capital LP plans to put its regional newspaper business into bankruptcy on Friday, a move that will see more than 70 weekly papers converted into digital-only platforms and 605 jobs eliminated.
...
Metroland’s bankruptcy means the end of weekly newspapers in many Ontario cities, including Barrie, Dundas, Oakville, Perth and Renfrew. The company is eliminating approximately two thirds of its workforce as it moves to digital platforms.
Approximately a third of the 605 employees losing their jobs work at Metroland’s flyer distribution operations. A third of the cuts are part-time staff. The company said 68 journalists will be laid off. As part of an internal document for employees, receiver Grant Thornton LLP said Metroland will not offer severance or termination pay, due to “insufficient funds.”
Local news matters. This blows.
