There is nothing harder to kill than an idea whose time has come to pass
53% of U.S. adults support the auto strike, compared with
22% who oppose it.
While 36% of U.S. adults say the labor union is asking for too much, slightly more say it’s an appropriate amount or too little.
Roughly 3 in 5 Americans say worker pay should increase whenever CEO compensation does, and that companies should provide strong worker protections even if it means higher costs for consumers.
Tumblr media
A slim 53% majority of U.S. adults surveyed over the weekend support the UAW’s decision to go on strike on Sept. 15 amid protracted negotiations with the automakers. Support for the strike remains consistent among those who identify as members of a union and those who do not. By contrast, just 22% of U.S. adults oppose the UAW strike, even though a larger share believe the union leadership’s demands are excessive.
"Slim majority" is a legit bullshit framing. 53% support and 22% opposition is a "slim majority" in a technical sense, but it would be just as true to say that only a tiny minority of capitalism-poisoned freaks oppose the UAW.
Tumblr media
Asked whether “worker pay should increase whenever CEO pay is increased to prevent inequality” or “worker pay should not increase whenever CEO pay is increased because the work that they are doing is different,” 62% chose the former, while only 17% chose the latter.
I've seen kitten-tormented yarn-balls that were more straightforward than this. Translation: Most Americans agree that when the boss gets a raise, the workers should get the same raise.
Tumblr media
A similar 61% share said “companies should provide strong worker protections even if it means higher costs for consumers” over the 15% who said they should provide weaker protections to lower costs for consumers.
Despite 40 years of economists insisting that we see ourselves as "consumers" (that is, ambulatory wallets) the evidence is overwhelming - we know we are WORKERS. https://pro.morningconsult.com/analysis/uaw-strike-polling

Please reblog for more exposure! Also, this isn't an offer to start debates in my replies or reblogs. Express your opinions as loudly and perhaps violently as you'd like, but just to yourselves, not at one another. If you try to start an argument, regardless of what side you're on, I'm blocking you. This is just to gather Tumblr's general opinion.
Anyone on either side of the debate can interact with this post, given that this is a neutral space.

Hello there! I’m a YouTuber, and I want to know your opinion because I’m working on a video where I talk about my experience getting double jaw surgery.

I’ve been debating with some folks outside of my company about writing instructions, specifically about when a step should end.
Let’s say that I’m writing for a generic art program. I’m inclined to write steps like this:
Click Effects —> Gaussian Blur —> Radial in the top menu.
Set the desired location of the Gaussian blur in the preview window.
Slide the appropriate radius bar to set the desired horizontal and vertical radius.
Click OK to apply the Gaussian blur.
They want to break apart steps for every single action performed, so it would look like this:
Click Effects in the top menu.
Click Gaussian Blur in the Effects menu.
Click Radial in the Gaussian Blur menu.
Set the desired location of the Gaussian blur in the preview window.
Slide the horizontal radius bar to set the desired horizontal radius.
Slide the vertical radius bar to set the desired vertical radius.
Click OK to apply the Gaussian blur.
Breaking apart the horizontal/vertical radius setting, yeah that’s fine sure. It’s the menu thing that IRKS me. If they were perhaps in completely separate places entirely, then it would make sense. But conceptually the menus flow together. There isn’t a totally new menu that appears where you need to click these things.
Another example: you want to replace the lightbulb in your microwave. Here’s how one website wrote it.
Tumblr media
These steps must be broken apart according to these folks.
Grab your screwdriver.
Remove the mounting screws on the light cover.
If there is a clip or clamp, release it before pulling the light cover down.
Remove the old light bulb.
Insert the new light bulb.
Twist the new light bulb until tight but not too tight to secure it.
Clip the light cover back in place.
Align the tabs and slots of the light cover.
Reapply the mounting screws.
Plug your microwave back in.
Separating the steps by action doubled the number of steps in this case.
To me it makes sense that you don’t want to put down the thing you’re holding to go read the next step, especially if it’s delicate or heavy. The step should end when you have to grab something new, a completely new window pops up, just something that is conceptually different from the main component you are messing with.
It’s silly but it does affect how much work I need to do so I’m just venting haha. Let me know your opinion on it below just for fun.

Rewrite vs Explore New Areas
Okay, I just asked my husband's thoughts on this but he got a SUPER generic question and wasn't a fan of the story I'm talking about, so I wanna hear from people that actually read my writing.
I have been DYING to write about Belinda. Like. All day.
And I haven't been able to decide if I want to rewrite her story that I finished a couple years ago or if I wanted to write a different part of her life.
Basically, the rewrite would be for Death Has a Face which is about how Ikuisuus recruited her to kill for her and stories about her killing the people Iku assigns to her.
HOWEVER, I also have other aspects of Belinda's life I could cover. Like what she was like before she became an immortal serial killer. Before she became so cold and bloodthirsty.
I could also write something that centers more around their friendship and less on Belinda's killings, which essentially is what the novel I'd started but never finished was about but if I went that route, I'd be started over from scratch.
Do you guys have any ideas which you like most? Or if there's another aspect of Belinda you'd be interested in? I do remember he original stories actually ended with the twist that the world ended and Belinda thought she was going to survive it, but then Iku betrayed her and put her to death with the rest of the world... it might also be interesting to see what happened to Belinda after that.
So! 4 options now or "other" and you tell me what you'd like to see :)

The opinion polls are so telling. It’s over a year until the next required general election. The damage the Tories can do between now and then is immense. We need a general election called NOW!
