When the Drifter doesn’t want to be found, you don’t find him.
Except that it’s been mere hours and Guardians are already complaining. Gambit bounties are laying fallow, training hours are being rearranged. No, it’s not as much of a fuss as if the Crucible disappeared, but it isn’t fun. So Ikora goes, unties shield-knots and ignores her Ghost’s dearly spoken warnings and breaks into the Derelict.
It isn’t easy, but by the time she reaches the cargo container, she has no compunctions about simply blasting the lock off. He probably won’t even be in there, he’s probably lit out for Pluto just in time for the Witch Queen to appear behind Ikora’s back —
Except he is in there, food wrappers and books strewn about the bed on which Drifter sits furiously turning pages. He has wrapped a thick, moth-eaten black blanket over his legs along with his usual jacket and gear, as if he’s cold even under all of it.
Quietly he says, “You broke into my house.” There’s some threat and some exhaustion in the low words.
“The Witch Queen is at the front door, and there is a line of Guardians asking me about why Gambit isn’t running today.” Maybe Ikora should have tried out Gambit more herself. She could do with burning some more. Taking some shots, feeling the kick. Open her wings and feel the Solar wind direct her, feel bullets miss as she finds an impossible angle. It’s been a long time since a Vanguard took the Crucible, and she misses —
“Done with restraint, huh?” Drifter looks up with that too-bright stare.
“Don’t you dare tell me to try Gambit when you’re gone — ”
“Oh, you think this is gone?" Drifter says. "You think LEO is gone? I haven’t left out of the sweetness of my cochlea. Just doing some reading for a minute. I never said I’d work 24/7.”
“With no explanation?”
“Well, I’ve been — ”
Ikora senses the incoming transmat, turns with her hand in a fist. Out of the air shimmers Jenev Furnon, Dredgen, who sways forward before all her atoms have hardly been sorted.
“Hey, what the, I’ve been trying to — ” Jenev starts.
“Ah,” Drifter says, and his shoulders and his arms sink until he’s small.
At the tone of his voice, Jenev skids to a stop, Awoken eyes glancing between Ikora and Drifter.
“Ain’t nobody gives time around here,” Drifter complains, eyes on the book again. “I’ll be back soon as I take a pill. Got some kind of disease. You do not want to look at it, sister.”
Jenev sticks out her tongue. “I bet not, but I gotta know what to tell the guys and gals, boss. We opening up today?”
Drifter’s sigh starts out sarcastic and ends up tired. “Yes. Maybe. Soon.”
Jenev toys with her jade pendant, and her mood in the Light is one part anxious and two parts worry. She wants to know whether he’s okay, and he wants to tell her, and neither of them talk like that much.
“I’ll leave you alone,” Ikora says softly. “But get somebody in front of Gambit within the hour, or I’ll send the masses your personal net number.”
“Wait.” Drifter fishes around on the bed. “Jenev. Give this to her.” He comes up with a finger-length feather, iridescent jade and violet.
Ikora’s stomach drops even before the Dredgen shoves Ikora’s shoulder on her way to take it. Jenev looks at the feather with wide eyes, from the open books and scattered pages to the red-and-gold broad wings folded at Ikora’s back. Her lips open and close, and Ikora wants to hurry her up. We all know what it means. But give it some time. It always takes everyone time, especially …
“No,” Jenev says, but hands the feather to Ikora with a sleepy detachment. Takes a deep breath that could presage a laugh or a sob.
Ikora takes it, but she doesn’t hardly have to look at it either. “I’m glad,” she says, “that you didn’t really run.”
“Not yet,” Drifter growls.
Softly, Ikora says, “It would be okay.” Forget Gambit. “Most of them run, at first.”

XICHENG FIC RECS
hold my hands by Snooze (Chiruka)
Transplanting a core into a new person isn’t without repercussions. One year after the events at Guanyin Temple, Jiang Cheng found himself once again faced with the possibility of losing everything he had. Reconciling with his brother, learning to let Jin Ling go, and dealing with his blooming emotions toward the First Jade of Gusu — will Jiang Cheng accomplish what he wants before time runs out?
it all passes someday by screamlet
A week before the anniversary of Wei Wuxian’s death, there was a commotion outside Lan Wangji’s house.
*
Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji over the years.
The Unlikely Expression of Love by manamune
When everything has settled, when everyone else has moved on with their lives and their friends, Jiang Cheng has a realization which shouldn’t actually be a surprise:
He’s lonely.
Indigo, lavender, and violet (I don't wanna be red) by ohwhatevrewhatevr
It, in the pale colors of the late morning, is the closest to perfect Jiang Cheng will ever reach. He strokes Lan XiChen's hair and presses a light kiss to where his ribbon and hair meet. The sky is a pale blue, and the pastels of flowers and clouds are spread out through the window, a brilliant world waiting for them, them in the gentian house, safe from stronger breezes - there is the clutter of birds fluttering and chirping outside. It is a warm, perfect, spring morning.
Jiang Cheng and Lan XiChen have been together for an year. In which, no one ever really gets over things, Jiang Cheng has the misfortune of interacting with his brother, the juniors help out with the proposal, and there's a marriage.
Altitude by starknjarvis
When Jin Ling lures Jiang Cheng to the Cloud Recesses under false pretenses, he finds himself out of place among this new family Wei Wuxian has formed.
Lan Xichen, at least, seems pleased to have his company.
Perhaps there is still a chance for Jiang Cheng to make amends and move forward.
[Modao Zushi Online] GLITCH REPORT: My Brother Got Chased Down And %$@*$&@ By Gusu Dungeon Boss??? by oh_fudgecakes
Modao Zushi Online is a virtual reality MMORPG. Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian are top ranking players in its new server, currently tied with their arch-nemesis from their previous server, Wen Chao. In an attempt to defeat him, they take on the Gusu Dungeon Boss, Zewu-jun, to win the reward of a legendary weapon. Ever the cheat, Wei Wuxian tries to take advantage of a glitch to defeat the seemingly undefeatable boss. It backfires. Jiang Cheng gets fucked by a boss monster.
He can't get enough.
Meanwhile, Lan Xichen, the unwitting staff member in charge of controlling Zewu-jun, absolutely did not sign up to be pulled into a secret virtual reality fling with a player. Mod Ji, who has to deal with Wei Wuxian's incessant glitch reporting of his brother's sex life, is long-suffering.
Mulberry by xxdz
Jiang Cheng grits his teeth and pushes harder. He feels like torn silk, the embroidery needle sinking in again and again and again; patiently, desperately, endlessly trying to make something beautiful out of something broken.
Jiang Cheng builds his sect, learns embroidery, and raises his nephew.
we can raise a little family by lanyon
“Well, brother,” says Wei Wuxian, leaning against the outside of Jiang Cheng’s chambers. “I had heard that you and Xichen went on a night hunt and came back with a baby, which is not the order I’d choose to do things in…”
In which Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen acquire a baby of unknown origin, and are the very last to know what it means.
Beyond the Impossible by Silverine
Summoned by Lan Qiren, Jiang Wanyin goes to the Cloud Recesses to drop his nephew Jin Ling, expecting to discuss relevant matters with his old master. Instead, he's asked to take with him no other than Sect Leader Lan himself, all the way back to Lotus Pier. If the reason why he accepted such an outrageous task is indeed a mystery, he's about to be surprised by how this entire trip, their encounters, and his warm company, suddenly feel fated.
Incrementally by xxdz
Jiang Cheng is trapped in a day on repeat where he begins by waking in Zewu Jun’s bed at dawn and ends by dying painfully at dusk.
It’s getting very irritating, and he has the sneaking suspicion that his chances to solve his own murder are rapidly running out. Soon, his death will be much more permanent.
All in all, worst birthday ever.
Audience of One by WinterDreams
“Then let an established star go first,” Lan Xichen interrupts again before Lan Wangji can give a stubborn reply. Both men twist toward Lan Xichen, and he smiles at Wei Wuxian’s tilted head. “If I publicly date a man for awhile first, your engagement shouldn’t receive as much backlash.”
Or, that AU where everyone is famous in some way or another, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have been dating in private for years, and Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng pretend to date publicly for their brothers' sake.
A Bit of Ruthlessness by jirluvien
When Jiang Cheng hears that Lan Xichen went into seclusion following Jin Guangyao’s death, it’s almost as if he can see the grabby hands of a restless ghost, reaching out for something to keep him company. For something warm and living and devastated. And as history has proved time and time again, the Lans are perfect victims when it comes to giving in to ghosts.Yeah, no. Not on Jiang Cheng’s fucking watch.A story about grief, determination, unexpected friendships, abandoned watchtowers, and letters. So many letters.
All Tied Up In You by Clearpearls
Yet again, the night had come to this:
Jiang Cheng on the floor, kneeling, Zidian wrapped around his wrists.
Alone.
Thank You, and I'm Sorry by Hamliet
Jin GuangYao might be dead, but his story is not. Taking advantage of the chaos he instigated, someone makes an attempt on the life of the young new leader of the Jin Sect. When Jiang Cheng takes Jin Ling to the Cloud Recesses to have him study while he attempts to work with Wei WuXian and his husband Lan WangJi to eliminate the threat, he encounters a mourning Lan XiChen, lovestruck teenagers, and a persistent corpse--and both pairs of brothers find themselves struggling to move on.
saturn's rings (don't be a heartbreaker) by iskendaris
Set after the seige of burial mounds, Yunmeng rebuilds as they hold the first Discussion Conference at Lotus Pier. Sometimes the night is a gift, a refuge for loneliness. "So stern, Sect Leader Jiang," Lan Xichen murmured, "So glacial... What will it take to melt that icy exterior? What can I say?"
"Nothing. There's nothing you can say or offer."
reciprocity by jukeboxhound
There’s a pause before Lan Xichen says, in a tone that’s a little more neutral, “I would like to paint on you.”
“…What?”
“Of course, if you say ‘yes’ but then change your mind at any point, for any reason, you need only say so and I will stop immediately,” he adds.
Well, silver lining: Jiang Cheng is feeling much more awake than he was a moment ago.
Talent Hunt Crew Finds Angry Guy Shouting On College Campus, Recruits Him For Vocal Projection Abilities by oh_fudgecakes
Jiang Cheng, resident Angry Guy and heir to a conglomerate empire, has never been the apple of his father’s eye. Quashed under the shadow of his brilliant brother, the music prodigy Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng sees his chance to turn things around when he is recruited by the All-Stars Lan Talent Hunt. One problem: he can’t sing to save his goddamn life.
As he struggles to develop his nascent singing abilities, Jiang Cheng finds himself sucked into the whirlwind drama of reality TV, helped along by his adoring siblings, his irritable vocal coach Wen Qing, and strangely enough, the unfairly attractive host of the All-Stars Lan Talent Hunt, Lan Xichen. Somewhere in the glare of the stage lights and an unexpected first love, Jiang Cheng stumbles upon the thing he was searching for all along: the courage to dream — and to attempt the impossible.
Marginal Costs by ohwhatevrewhatevr
“You think you know what you want, Er-Ge,” A-Yao says. “But you should consider what you’re willing to give first,” he says wryly, taking Lan XiChen’s chess piece with slim, skilled fingers.
Lan XiChen looks up at A-Yao’s concentrated expression and the hint of contentment on his face that he is special enough to be allowed to see.
“It’s not just one decision, but the lead up to many more. One decision decides what else you’re going to have to pay, and each time you have to ask yourself, ignoring the sunk costs, if this time it’s worth it as well.”
When his sworn brother looks up at him with those clear, amber eyes, waiting, Lan XiChen feels the pull and gives in: he asks.
“Are you happy being in love?”
(First half is two sad sworn brothers talking, internally mourning how unfortunate their other sworn brother’s death was :/ and second half is when a mopey boy in blue meets an angsty boy in purple whilst chasing a demonic cultivator, and a lil bit of sexy dual cultivation happens.)
Somewhat Tender by theherocomplex
There is no defense against kindness; it has always undone him.
I didn't expect you to be lonely (too) by bettydice (BettyKnight)
Jiang Cheng's life is a mess, he's a mess, and he doesn't miss his brother at all. So when his sister gifts him ten sessions with a massage therapist, who turns out to be someone he was crushing on for a hot minute as a teenager and is still as hot as ever... yeah, that might as well happen. It won't have to mean anything.
This feels intimate to Jiang Cheng in a way that's probably very inappropriate and maybe even pathetic. Nobody touches him like this, right where he’s hurt the most. There's no one who handles him so gently, so carefully.
It's the gentleness that's his undoing, he thinks. He would be able to deal better with it if it was painful.
Life for Rent by yodasyoyo
“Yeah well. You’re not taking me seriously. This guy is my soulmate!”
“Soulmate.” Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes. “Whatever.”
“Just because you don’t believe in them—”
“I believe in them!” Jiang Cheng says. “I’ve never denied they exist.”
“Just last week you said that it was an evolutionary quirk that had been used by greetings card companies, movie makers, and corporations to exploit lonely and vulnerable people.”
“And I stand by it! That doesn’t mean that soulmates aren’t real. Just incredibly unlikely and probably pointless.
-
Or:
Xicheng vs Soulmates. Fight!
Halfway Around the World by theherocomplex
Normally, Jiang Cheng would be seething, jaw clenched tight, if someone sounded like that while they were talking, but — Lan Xichen has the trick of always making you feel like you're in on the joke, whatever the joke is. That you're laughing together.
Whelmed by yodasyoyo
For months now Jiang Cheng’s been idly fantasizing about how it would be if something were to come between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. Mostly those daydreams have been simple enough — they break up (probably because Lan Zhan is boring or Wei Ying is annoying), Wei Ying is sad for a couple of days (Jiang Cheng’s willing to allow some space for feelings, he isn't a total monster), but then Wei Ying realizes he’s better off, he gets over it, and Jiang Cheng gets his brother back.
Unfortunately the fantasy version of events has only proven partially true, so far. They've broken up. Wei Ying has been sad.
Now weeks have passed, though — and Wei Ying is still sad, every. Single. Day.
It’s like Jiang Cheng's stuck in a looping GIF, and it’s driving him insane.
Or:
Jiang Cheng plots, Lan Huan pines, and, unfortunately for Lan Qiren, Wangxian are inevitable.

Thinking about how the octatrio was in a band in middle school, do you think whenever they put on a performance in the lounge the rest of the dorm would make up the rest of the house band? I bet Octa A-kun would rock the trumpet!
I’m sure Azul could pull some strings and convince some of his students to pitch in for the performances.
I know this ask wasn’t meant to be a writing request, but I felt inspired to make some mob student content, featuring Octavinelle A-kun, aka Kon~ and a Free! Iwatobi Swim Club reference
Imagine this...
Tumblr media
Octa A should have known that trouble would be afoot (... er, afin?) as soon as he was called to his dorm leader’s office. Nothing good usually came of such summons--they typically led to prepositions that Octa A would rather not get involved in... And as luck would have it, that was exactly the case.
“A-A live musical performance? H-Here, in the Mostro Lounge?”
“Precisely.” Azul rose from his desk and clapped his hands together. “Customers are willing to pay for not only food, but for the experience that comes with their meals. Fear of missing out on these limited time offers will drive sales up. That is why we offer seasonal menu items--and that is also why I intend to hold a live musical performance.”
The octopus bore a deceptively sweet smile. “Of course, you will assist us... Won’t you, Kon-san?”
“W-With all due respect, dorm leader... W-Why me? I’m... I’m not r-remarkable in any way... I-I’m pretty much just a nobody, a background character...”
“On the contrary, my dear background character,” Azul chuckled, pulling open a drawer and fishing out a folder secured with a paperclip. He slid it toward Octa A, who nervously picked the folder up. “I had Jade do a bit of digging into your background, you see.”
Octa A blanched, his hands going clammy.
“I hear that you are proficient in the trumpet. Back in middle school, you played for the band--first chair. You will find the full collection of pieces you have performed, in chronological order, in that folder if you don’t believe me.”
“I-I...”
“It would be a shame if you didn’t put that talent of yours to some good use. Squandered!” Azul paused dramatically, then added, “Ah, and of course, there will be a cash incentive if you lend us your aid.”
“A cash... incentive?”
“I imagine that you would tire eventually of the cup ramen that you constantly dine on,” Azul spoke lightly, his blue-grey eyes glimmering. “30k Madol for a few hours of your time. That is more than generous, yes?”
He hesitated. “N-No strings attached?”
“No strings attached. Just play your heart out alongside us--that is all that I ask of you.” Azul extended a hand and a warm smile. “So... do we have a deal?”
Tumblr media
Octa A perched on a slightly raised platform--the area that would soon be his stage--as he polished up his old trumpet. Its brassy shine was finally starting to return.
He had done it; he had accepted the gig--but his stomach still roiled with unease. Rather than feeling like an old friend had returned, Octa A only felt as though he were holding a lump of cold metal in his hands.
He glanced out into a sea of tables and chairs, only to be met with a single golden eye in the darkness.
“Konbu-chan,” Floyd drawled, “Are you practicing your trumpet?”
“S-Something like that.”
“Ne, ne, if you need to practice, play a song for me!! It’s boring cleaning up all these tables without something to listen to!”
“F-Floyd-senpai, it’s been a while, so I’m rusty... P-Please give me some time to get used to it.”
“Mmm? What, you can’t just blow into it?” The eel tilted his head to one side. “Aaah, that’s so different from playing the drums. Ehehe. It’s so easy to just belt out a tune on those!”
“... Not all of us are gifted,” Octa A mumbled under his breath.
When you're ten, they call you a prodigy. When you're fifteen, they call you a genius. Once you hit twenty, you're just an ordinary person.
Octa A had always been ordinary.
He stared down at the instrument in his hands. As a child, he had adored the glisten of the trumpet, the bold sounds that came out with each breath he passed through. He had loved it so, so much--had put his soul into each piece that he played... Until, one day, he realized.
He would never be remarkable.
And so, he had faded into the shadows and embraced normalcy.
“... Hey, Floyd-senpai.”
“Yeah?”
“D-Do you think I deserve... all of this?” Octa A gestured vaguely to the lights overhead. “Th-This role... this attention... being at NRC... sh-sharing a stage with you, my talented senpai...”
A brief silence followed his question, punctured only by Floyd’s exasperated sigh.
“Eeeeh? I don’t understand you at all, Konbu-chan. If Azul picked ya, then that’s that. You’re thinkin’ way too hard about these things.” Floyd picked up a fork and lightly tapped it on the rim of a glass. A small chime rang out. “Just cut loose and enjoy making music!”
Cut loose and enjoy making music...
Octa A’s brows furrowed as he considered the words, turned them over in his head. The image of his younger self, happily blowing into a glass jar to produce breathy notes, resurfaced. His music was clumsy, still finding its footing--but each step was one made with joy in stride.
He lifted the trumpet to his mouth and blew.
The note that resounded was clear as a bell.
Tumblr media
Violet liner glided across Octa A’s upper lash line, flared out into a wing, then tucked under his lower lashes. He flinched at the unfamiliar feeling and balked away from his makeup artist’s touch.
“Do hold still--or I may very well poke your eyeball out with the pencil,” Jade warned, though the curve to his lips suggested that he would not mind at all if that were to happen.
“Y-Yes, Jade-senpai!”
“That’s what I like to hear.” He set down the eyeliner and peeled off his gloves, dipping his digits into an open tub of a gelatinous substance. “Now then, tilt your head up and close your eyes.”
Octa A obeyed.
Robbed of his vision, he was left to rely on his remaining senses to piece together his surroundings and experienced sensations. The distant footsteps of clamoring customers being seated for the big show, the muted strums and toots of instruments being tuned, the hammering of his own heart...
Cool, near wet fingers deftly weaved through Octa A’s hair, pushing his locks back. Stray strands fell at his temples, framing his eyes.
Then came a spritz of cologne at the nape of his neck, under his chin, and on each of his wrists. It smelled of the sea and salt and sorrow, bundled in sandalwood.
“There. All done,” Jade announced, prompting the mob student’s sight to snap back to him. He handed Octa A a handheld mirror with a polite smile. “Fufu. A rather cohesive look, if I do say so myself.”
Fitted in a crisp white suit, black dress shirt, and a lilac bowtie, the young man in the mirror looked ready to tackle the world. His makeup was impeccable--and with his hair parted back, his maroon irises shone like jewels.
“I-I don’t... even look like myself.” Octa A cautiously put a hand on his cheek--just to make sure that the stranger in the looking glass was, indeed, the plain old Kon that he had always known. “D-Did I become a prince or something?”
“I have merely transformed your appearance into something befitting the band’s aesthetic.” Jade adjusted his own lilac tie and passed a glance at the clock. “The magic only lasts until midnight, Kon-san. Do take care to not ruin your ensemble until the show is over.”
“Y-Yessir!” Octa A abruptly stood, trumpet in hand, and bowed in deference.
“Jade. Kon-san.”
Octa A raised his head to find Azul and the other Leech twin approaching, dressed in a similar attire as he and Jade were. Floyd expertly twirled around two drumsticks in his hands, while their dorm leader carried a folder of piano sheet music under his arm.
“There you are. The show is about to start. Are you ready?”
“Once I procure my bass, yes.”
“A-As ready as I’ll ever be...”
“Excellent. Then, let us make this live performance a memorable one for our dear customers. Come! It’s showtime.”
“Y-Yes! I’ll... I’ll do my best! I won’t disappoint you, D-Dorm Leader!!”
Octa A stepped onto the stage, embracing the lights, and the audience that awaited him.

Random and Not So Random thoughts while watching Bridgerton: Season 1, Episode 4
Oh they're at court.
Also she's not a commoner. She's the daughter of a Viscount.
Another Daphne brag moment, but homegirl really got the juice. She's bagging mfs over hand holding and dancing.
Violet dgaf. She's hungry now, damn it!
Oh he's buying jewelry already.
Ooooooh the way she imagines the Duke behind her. Honey yes. That scene was hot.
Too bad she came back to reality.
Hyacinth is my spirit animal.
Lady Whistledown ain't ready to write Simon off yet. She's waiting on the Dukes Hail Mary.
Shit. So am I.
I have never seen someone look so depressed in such an exquisite piece of jewelry. It's like the necklace chokes her. Testament to the acting and script for that though. It truly represents a trap.
Awww Simon is wearing that heavy bag out. I would say poor Simon, but he made this damn bed.
I love Alice and Will. They are the kind of wholesome love I need to keep my heart steady watching this damn show. She's his rider and I love it.
Alice roasting Simon over Daphne. Get. Yo. Girl. Mane.
I always cringe when a man tells a woman to smile.
Poor Marina. Portia is determined to find her the oldest mf. She's playing smart though.
Those damn dingbat sisters.
Maybe Penelope does care.
Well at least the least mean sister got a caller. They're awkward/cute.
Eloise girl, I love feathers in hair. Your one dimensional preaching is wearing me out again.
A boxing match date? I'd be down.
The prince legit seems like a nice guy. And Daphne is trying....but she's CLEARLY hung up on Simon.
Oh look Simon's losing focus on his friend because he's too focused on Daphne and the prince.
Ok mf! Take that shit off and roll them sleeves up. It turns me on too sis!
Oh look at the sweet family talk with the prince. Girl he'd give you any and everything you wanted.
But you and the Duke are just ATE TF UP about each other!
Mondrich for the win!!!!
Oh Benny. You've got a new friend. But what kind of friend? Give me more of this.
Well Anthony is smug and pleased as punch. Simons courtship of Daphne has ended. She has her perfect suitor. And Simon is leaving England to go rake and fuckboy about.
Though Simons hard slammed shot when the prince approached says he's anything but happy.
Violet always worries about the wrong shit.
Hyacinth always wants to know the good shit.
Be Hyacinth.
Oh fuck the prince is ready to propose. That shit escalated quickly.
SIMON!!!!!! Now would be a good time for that Hail Mary.
Good job Anthony. Way to realize that the women in your life have agency over THEMSELVES.
Violet always beating around the damn bush.....but she is still 100% #teamduke
Aw Daphne you're gonna break down snitching on yourself.
If it wasn't real with Simon you wouldn't be so ate up about it, and you would be rocking tf out of that necklace from the prince instead of crying.
There's a reason for the black in her outfit. For Daphne, who is normally all pastel blues, that black is her mourning. It's her 'attempting' to put to death her feelings for the Duke. And also I think mourning the loss if the bond they shared. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But this seems like a very deliberate show with it's details.
Danbury ripping Simon open before she sends him off. Big energy.
She knows everything you thick headed mf. Why won't you just listen?! You letting your rank ass daddy live rent free in your soul.
He's so jaded it hurts.
Ayyyye this Trowbridge party looks like the real deal.
Oh gawd. Marina and the old man.
Mr. Finch and the cheese frock. Jesus who wrote this. I love it
Cressida you have been Daphnes biggest hater all season and now you're mad that she's with the prince. He was never gonna marry yo basket headed ass anyway.
Oooooh shit Simon sees the 'intimate painting' and has 2nd thoughts.
Go. Get. Yo. Girl.......Bitch.
Ooooh Benny's at the new homies spot and it's lit!
Naked models, easels, mingling between the classes. Yes indeed.
2nd sons having fun. Hell yes.
Damn Even Sienna at the ball...as a performer of course.
And Anthony looking tongue tied.
Violet....you need to chill. There take another sip.
Portia trying to shade Lady Trowbridges style is comical. Both of y'all bitches gaudy as hell.
Oh shit Phillipa lost her man.
Wtf is wrong with Lord Featherington?
And wtf are you doing Eloise?
Ayyye she just let her have it. You think servants have the time to be Lady Whistledown? I'm dead.
"Get out."
Ok Penelope with your saucy ass.
Well fuck! You just pushed him right to Marina. You played yourself boo.
Oooh the prince is about to shoot the big shot and Daphne keeps running away.
She done spotted Simon. Its over.
Fuck off Cressida.
Rip that mf necklace off girl.
Simon followed her ass outside.
"Miss Bridgerton." Motherfucker, call her Daphne.
"I came to say goodbye." Man. Go to hell.
Daphne serving those barbs. You not ready to keep playing with her.
Damn, Simon. If you're not gonna give her what she wants, get out the way.
Tell his ass sis.....even if you don't believe it yourself.
Really Simon? You stand there quiet as a mf church mouse whiles she's pleading with you to say something.....then you take off after her once she walks away from your shit
I swear.....men.....yall mfs really do shit like this. Speak up! Or...LET. ME. GO.
She's really cracking on his ass and I'm here for it....but wtf us up with his "I forbid you." Who tf are you to me? I'm glad she ain't playing with his ass.
Ooooh he called her Daphne and grabbed her.
Oh honey this is what fulfillment feels like, isn't it?
He's definitely fulFILLing her all the way up!
Oh shit Anthony caught them.
At least he finally landed some decent blows on Simon.
This RAKE ass mf still won't marry her.
Oh Simon.....for once.....Anthony is in the right and you the wrong. You are really about to die over your fucking daddy issues. Boy bye. Again.
Poor Daphne.
Wait, how did Cressida know she was in the garden?
That can't be good.
At least Benny is having a good time.
Dearest Portia, when you go looking for shit, it usually falls in your lap.
Marina keeps carrying on about Colin and Penelope is crushed.....or scheming....or both.
Aww Penelope let her hurt feelings cause a fight with her bestie. Her jealousy is seething.
Daphne still out here having to educate Anthony....though I get the need for the duel. And he still thinks he's running something.
Ooooh this is why they brought up 2nd sons.....Anthony is prepping Benny to take over. Well Benny, at least you had one good night out.
Colin caring for drunk Violet is parenting goals one day.
Oh great, now yall wanna bring Colin into the shit.
Simon raiding Wills spot for booze was so uneccesarily loud.
So Berbrooke alludes to her dishonor and Simon caves his fucking head in. Simon legit dishonors her and he's just like ,"Kay, guess I'll go get shot now." Someone get this man some therapy.
Oh great Anthony is back at Siennas door with more of his bullshit. Girl. Close that door.
No, not after you've let him in and climbed his torso. I guess y'all fuckin again.
He lost all the money and now he's fucked up.
Her face while he cried, is literally the face of every woman sick of a mediocre man's shit.
Oooh now they're all riding off into battle like the fucking idiots they are.
Colin is so pure.
I knew that Cressida shit would come back.
Well at least Anthony was willing to care for Sienna in his death....but damn mf, treat me right while WE'RE here.
Oh the dramatics of drawing a gun.
Nobody is here for Simon's weak ass apologies and I'm okay with that.
Hurry hurry Daphne.
Daphne down....but she's alright.
Call them idiots just like they are.
Simon still being a hoe about this shit. You really about let her be ostracized because you're a fuck boy.
Ultimate fuck boy line...I can't be with you because I love you too much. Fucking hell.
They do obviously love each other though.
Hold up.......you CAN NEVER, or WILL NEVER give her children. Don't play this like you have a reproductive issue.
So your reason for not marrying her is that you "can never" give her children and you know that's what her heart desires.
You playing with fire, Simon.
I wonder how much shit I let slide with his character just because he's portrayed so well by the phenomenal Regé-Jean Page.
No, I do love Simon's damaged ass. He just makes me so mad.
So the duel resumes......or not.
Daphne said, "Fuck them kids, give me my husband." Or something like that.
Well. This us an uncomfortable arrangement even though both of these idiots are in love.
Simon's evasion will most certainly come back to bite him in the ass.
But I'll be here with my popcorn and tissue, rooting for these cool kids to make it!

Happy Birthday, Lian!
Summary: Rewrite of the episode “Home Fires” (but without the “nuclear weapon” subplot). It’s Lian’s birthday and the first without her mother. Come stress with Will as he goes the extra mile to ensure that his daughter has the best birthday party ever!
Rating: K
Characters: Lian Harper, Will Harper, Roy Harper, Artemis Crock, Jim Harper, Raquel Ervin, Amistad Ervin, Donny Allen, Dawn Allen, Iris West-Allen, Traya Sutton, John Smith, Queen Mera, Artur, Lynn Stewart-Pierce, Jennifer Pierce, Anissa Pierce, Lois Lane, Jonathan Kent, Karen Beecher, and a bunch of OCs!
Author’s Note: Happy birthday, @youngjusticeslut! This is for you, based on this (which, I guess, is something I’m responsible for)! I just figured, why the hell not?
Will stared at the date on his calendar, with a giant red star on the particular date. He had been dreading this day for months, but it was finally coming closer: his daughter’s birthday–or, rather, Lian’s first birthday without her mother.
He closed his eyes and shook his head. No words could describe how he was feeling. Grief? Anger? Worried? What would Lian say, when she realized that Mommy wasn’t coming to her birthday party? Would it be one of those things in the movies, and Jade would show up unexpectedly, like an army parent coming home as a Christmas gift for their children? It wouldn’t happen, and Will knew it, but it helped to imagine it. In the meantime, he had to plan her birthday party, and he wanted everything to go perfectly. This was his daughter, and she deserved to be happy.
He had seven million things to do to prepare, he knew, and it was more than just finding the cake and buying decorations and planning games and activities; it involved working late every night for a month to be able to afford the type of party he wanted to give her. He knew so much about heroes because he had been exposed to them all of his existence, and he wanted to give her everything hero: Justice League, Marvel heroes, whatever. He didn’t care. He could probably find a sneaky way to get the whole League to attend her party, or he could dress up as a hero of her choice a la that episode of I Love Lucy.
A small shuffle of footsteps interrupted Will’s train of thought, and he turned around to see his daughter in pink blanket pajamas. “Daddy…”
“Hey Lian.” He stood up and walked over to his daughter, rubbing her eyes and looking sleepy. “Are you all right?”
Lian patted her stomach. “Tummy ache,” she whispered.
Will gently lifted her up into his arms and carried her to the kitchen for children’s Tylenol and a glass of water, which she finished. Then he carried her back upstairs and sat her onto her bed. “Why are you up so late, Daddy?”
Will stopped himself from lying that he was working on files and shrugged. “I was getting ideas for your birthday, Lian,” he said. “I know it’s your birthday, and you decide what you want, but I was looking up where to get the cake, the decorations…you know.” He ruffled her hair. “I know I’ve been working a lot, but I just want to be able to get you a fun party.”
“Okay,” Lian nodded. She grabbed her feet and rolled on her back. “I want a Paw Patrol party.”
Paw Patrol. Will’s heart sank. He knew more about heroes than that TV show that he knew Lian enjoyed, but he never really watched it with her. Apparently, she watched it with her friends from daycare or when she was visiting other friends. “Okay, I’ll see what I can do to get a Paw Patrol birthday party for you–”
“Can we invite my friends?” she asked, tilting her head. “Donny, Dawn, Ani, Khary, Greg, Jenny, Artie–”
“Of course,” he said with a stroke of her hair. “But you better get some sleep now so Daddy can start planning.”
Lian sank her head back into her pillow, her arms around her Wonder Woman plushy. Will stared at her for a long time before he closed the door behind him.
***
The week before, while Lian was at daycare, he and Artemis raided Party City and got all the decorations, cutlery–everything, all themed to Paw Patrol. They picked up “Pin the Helmet on the Dog”, a giant piñata, and a “Birthday Girl” sash that even if Lian didn’t want to wear, they could place it over her chair.
He called the other parents in the private parent-child circle and told them the situation: Lian was inviting them to her birthday party, but she wanted to invite friends from daycare, and he couldn’t afford to throw two parties even if he wanted to. The daycare didn’t throw birthday parties anymore due to food allergies. Eventually, after a strenuous group text, everyone agreed that the birthday party would count as the playdate for the month, but those with superpowered children had to ensure that their children would be careful not to expose their abilities to daycare tykes.
Lian was aware, though still upset, that “Grandpa Ollie” and “Grandma Dinah” weren’t going to make it, since they had “an important business meeting”, as Ollie put it, but Will didn’t know if he could believe them; they did promise to have a big birthday dinner for her soon. Of course, Grandmommy Paula couldn’t come, but she promised to mail her present as long as Artemis would film Lian opening her gift. Violet, on the other hand, was going to be at a training session with Dick and the others, and she encouraged Artemis to attend the party; she knew that Artemis wanted to be there anyway, and they could train together later.
***
Will opened the door, relieved that it was his genetic template, holding what had to be the giant cake in both hands. “Come on in, Roy.”
The human barely closed the door with his hip when a little voice came screaming towards him. “UNCLE ROY! ARE YOU COMING TO MY BIRTHDAY PARTY TOMORROW?!”
Roy’s ears began to ring almost immediately, and Will loudly shushed his daughter from the kitchen. Still, Roy looked down at the almond eyes that stared into his with a begging look. “Of course I am, kiddo. I’m helping get everything ready.”
Lian giggled and climbed on Roy like a jungle gym. Will took the cake and carried it into the kitchen while Roy spun Lian in a front flip. “Are you ready for dinner soon, chickpea?” he asked.
Lian nodded eagerly.
“Good,” said Roy, “because the adults and I are getting your party ready, so you will need to go upstairs soon so it will be a surprise tomorrow.”
“Now?” asked Lian.
“Not right now,” Will said as he took her from Roy’s arms, “but soon.”
The doorbell rang again, and Will welcomed in his fellow clone, who barely had time to walk through the doorway when Lian threw herself at his leg and held tight as he walked in. Jim grinned, knelt down, and pulled her up for a kiss.
“Isn’t someone’s birthday coming up?” he playfully asked.
Lian laughed and kicked midair as he positioned her so he supported her up by her chest and stomach. “Oh, look, you’re Wonder Woman,” he said as he made her “fly” midair. “Wee…”
Lian giggled and waved her arms until he set her down and opened the bag dangling from the crease of his elbow. “What’s in the bag?” she asked.
Jim accepted the mug of coffee Artemis handed to him and took his time emptying the bag. “Everything for a moon bounce for a special little girl.”
“A moon bounce?!” Lian squawked, her jaw dropping. “I gotta moon bounce?!”
Will’s stomach sank. How many kids were injured by moon bounce-related injuries per year?
“Yes,” Jim said, “but we’re not going to set it up just yet.”
Lian and the adults gathered around for pizza, which Will had picked up earlier, while she made sure they watched Paw Patrol. Roy was on his phone most of the time, Artemis ate and scratched Brucely’s ears, and only Jim and Will paid attention to what was on TV; every time Jim babysat, he always got super into what TV shows Lian watched since it was perfect uncle-niece bonding, and Will wanted to make sure he understood the characters that his daughter clearly worshipped.
Eventually, the child went to bed at eight on the dot; Auntie Mouse carried her upstairs and changed her into pajamas while the men went on to decorate. Once Artemis came back down, they blew the balloons, set up the kitchen table with extra folding chairs, and mixed together the punch. Jim went outside and used the light from his phone to read the directions on setting up the moon bounce and how to keep it afloat overnight. Afterwards, the adults were up until midnight making gift bags for the children and going over the schedule, from games to lunch to cake to presents and more games. Since some kids were, as Will assumed, “gender neutral” (Roy had to laugh, since that was so new to him), they had to make sure to mix up the colors so the girls wouldn’t just get pink and the boys blue; some kids got green, some got purple, some others.
Finally, Roy set down the last bag he was working on and sighed. His back ached from hunching over work for little midgets, and even the fingers on his robotic arm hurt. “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going back to the hotel,” he yawned.
“Me too,” Jim agreed as he rubbed his face. “See you guys tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow,” Will greeted them goodbye as they put on their jackets and contacted an Uber to pick them up. As soon as the car drove away, Will went back to the decorations and kept going, wanting to make sure everything was perfect. He knew how many kids were coming, he didn’t want to be short on a goody bag, he double checked that there was enough food for everyone and that nobody was allergic to anything, and there was enough punch to make more bowls in case they ran out or some kid crashed and made an accident.
“Will,” Artemis hissed. “Come on, let’s go to sleep.”
“I can’t,” he whispered back. “I have to make sure everything is perfect!”
Artemis bit her lip but smiled anyway. It looked odd. “Will, everything is perfect, I swear–”
“Artemis,” Will interrupted. He stared at the extra gift bag he was making as an emergency. “I have to make sure everything is perfect. I don’t want anything bad to happen. I want it to be the best I can give my daughter…because her…” His voice trailed off.
His sister-in-law also looked uncomfortable when she clearly thought about her sister, who was surely not going to see her own daughter. Would it make up to Lian, to have a perfect party that her mother would not attend? Would everything Paw Patrol distract her from the pain of an absent parent? What if Lian still declared the party ruined because Mommy did not show up? Artemis rubbed her face and thought bitterly of her birthdays growing up, how even her assassin mother made time to host a small party and invite all her school friends, but Dad did nothing when his wife was behind bars. Lian didn’t deserve to have anything less than that, and for a moment Artemis wanted to hate her sister for making no indication that she was going to celebrate her daughter’s life.
“Listen, Will,” she sighed as she put her hands on his arms. “Everything will be fine, I promise. If anything goes wrong, I’m still there. So will Roy and Jim. You are not alone. Will, look at me.”
Will closed his eyes but reluctantly obeyed. Artemis smiled weakly. “I know what bothers you, and I appreciate that you’re doing this to give Lian the best birthday you can, but if you keep doing this, you’ll agitate yourself more. You’ll end up ruining the party for her if you don’t get any sleep or you strive to make everything too perfect.”
Will took a deep breath but nodded. “Come on,” she encouraged him. “Let’s get ready for tomorrow.”
Artemis led her brother-in-law upstairs, and he was quick to brush his teeth and change into sleepwear. Still, he wasted two hours on his phone looking up nothing of particular interest until he yawned and decided that it was time to go to bed.
Will did not remember falling asleep; he woke up promptly at six on the dot as though someone poured cold water over his face. He yawned, stretched his arms, and hurried down the stairs into the kitchen to make his daughter the best birthday breakfast ever.
Not cereal today, he thought as he checked the cabinets. I don’t want to take her out to eat… French Toast? Maybe pancakes.
Will wasn’t a terrible cook, but he was never one to perfect making his own pasta sauce; the one time he tried, Jade could not stop making faces and licking her teeth because it clearly tasted bad. Sighing, he pulled out his phone and looked up recipes.
Artemis walked into the kitchen with the birthday girl in her arms and was surprised to see the kitchen as though she walked into the set of a cooking show. Will was chopping strawberries at the counter, with a bowl and whisk beside him. Something heated on the stove, and Artemis tried not to moan because of how good it smelled–like vanilla and cinnamon.
“Morning, Daddy,” Lian chirped through a yawn.
Will instantly dropped the knife and quickly smiled. “Happy birthday, Lian,” he said. “Hope you’re hungry.”
“What are you making?” asked his sister-in-law as she set Lian into her big-girl seat.
Will quickly smoothed the creamy filling between the bread and added strawberries and syrup before he presented the plate to his daughter. “A French Toast sandwich, with strawberries, bananas, and syrup, and chocolate chips,” he said proudly. He watched as Lian’s eyes lit up when she saw her yummy-looking breakfast and he took a deep breath. He wanted her to have the best birthday breakfast he could offer. She grabbed a fork, and Artemis helped her cut her sandwich into small pieces. Will’s heart beat faster, and Lian’s eyes widen.
“Yummy!” she squealed before she shoved another forkful into her mouth.
Will laughed, and Artemis gently stopped her from shoving another forkful between her lips and reminded her to chew and swallow first. Relieved, Will poured coffee for himself and Artemis, and cooked another patch before the party would start.
***
Artemis was outside and setting up decorations and party bags when the doorbell first rang. Lian was watching TV with her father, but Will was quick to walk up to the front door. All of a sudden, his anxiety came back. What if everyone else who came hated the party? What if this was the only kid who came to the party? Swallowing, Will peered through the peephole but opened the door with a smile.
“Hello, Will. Are we late?”
“Raquel! No. You and Amistad are the first to arrive!”
The young woman clutched her squirming son and grinned. Will smiled at the little boy, clearly looking for his friend. “Come on in. Artemis is out back, but Amistad here can–”
“Ami, Ami!” Lian was at her father’s side within a moment and jumping. Raquel set down her son, and the children embraced.
“Aw,” cooed Raquel.
“Today is your birthday,” said Amistad as he pet Lian’s hair.
“Auntie Mouse is outside, and we got a moon bouncy,” Lian squealed. She and Amistad grabbed hands and ran to the backdoor but could not reach the doorknob. Will shook his head and opened the door for them.
***
Over the next hour, Will did his best to relax. The party was going off rather smoothly. Lian’s friends were there, both from daycare and the parents’ group. Donny and Dawn, who somehow knew not to run around, were laughing and rolling around the lawn with Zehra and Khary. Artur and Traya were having too much fun inside the moon bounce with Greg and Brandon. Many of the daycare moms were still starstruck to meet Iris—the GBS reporter! Lian’s daddy knew a news reporter from the second biggest national news station, after GMA!—and Artemis, who had dropped off Brucely at the Watchtower for the day, was happy to photograph as many things as possible.
“It’s hard getting my kids out of the house sometimes,” sighed Nicole as Lian tried doing a cartwheel while Dawn and Zehra cheered her on. “What’s your secret?”
Will swallowed, at loss for words. “Uh, well, when you’ve lived with a millionaire most of your life, you get to travel a lot, more or less like an army brat, and you make friends with whoever does business with your adoptive dad. So…” He felt so awkward and worried that she could sense it. “I guess it’s…doing something new every day.”
“Ani, Jenny!” Lian and Dawn screamed.
Anissa and Jennifer, each carrying a present, shoved them into Lynn’s arms and bolted for their friends. “Happy birthday, Li!” Jennifer giggled.
“Lynn, so happy you could come,” Will said as he handed her a cup of punch and offered two more to her daughters. The girls wiped their mouths, thanked their host, and let Lian tug on their hands as she rushed to introduce them to her friends from daycare.
Will introduced Lynn to all the daycare mothers, who were very nice and alternated between watching the children play and talking to each other. “Wow, your daughter is really a social butterfly,” Masasa commented. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s voted Homecoming Queen in the future!”
Will forced himself to chuckle. He couldn’t imagine Lian at age six just yet, so just the thought of her as a teenager felt weird.
“Everything okay?” Lynn asked in a voice low enough so the daycare moms didn’t hear.
“Yeah,” he whispered. “I’m not used to playing host, and…I’m worried something might happen.”
Lynn cocked an eyebrow. “Say that again.”
Will gestured for her to follow him as he slowly walked from the daycare moms. At a considerable distance, he took a deep breath. “I get nervous around the women from daycare. It’s not easy being the only dad–well, only really involved dad. I mean, other dads will help with things, pick up their kids and all, but…” Then he swallowed and double checked that nobody was watching. “I’ve heard quite a few women notice that I’m the only one of Lian’s parents to do things, and they’ve said some rather mean things, like her mother is a bad parent for not being with the other moms or…picking up our daughter.”
Lynn’s face made him think that he told her that her brother had just died. “Are you serious?”
Will nodded. “Yeah. Sometimes I have Artemis pick Lian up, just because…it’s kind of hurtful.” When Lynn didn’t say anything, he continued. “That’s why I want this party to be perfect, so these mothers can let the others know that I am a good single father even if I don’t have my wife with me.”
Lynn glanced at the daycare mothers chatting animatedly with Iris, Mera, and Raquel. “Well, I think it’s enough that you have her aunt involved, but…at least you have us. We know you don’t project your daughter’s needs to her aunt. We got your back.”
Will felt completely grateful and nodded.
***
The doorbell rang shortly after Brandon won Pin the Helmet on the Dog, but some of the kids alternated between running inside and some were already back outdoors. Artemis reassured Will that she would watch over the kids so he could answer the door.
“Hello, brother.”
Will smiled at his fellow clone, who carried a present wrapped in appropriately themed wrapping paper, but his smile sank when he saw Roy hunched over his phone. “Someone’s not in a party mode?” he asked.
Jim glanced at their genetic template. “I practically had to drag him from the hotel. I’m starting to think that he may have second thoughts about being caught in a kiddie party.”
“I’m not deaf, you know,” Roy groaned. Jim chuckled.
“Lian, Uncle Jim and Uncle Roy are here!” Will called out. “Put that down, however you pronounce your name again!”
Jim laughed and elbowed Roy to follow him inside, where Lian ran to them both for hugs and then dashed through the backdoor. He grimaced as he tried to set down his gift somewhere on the mountain of presents without it falling over. Once he was satisfied, he followed Will into the backyard. Some of the mothers he recognized, and the others must have been daycare moms. The only other guy was definitely the human android that Red Tornado set up. Roy walked away, but Jim looked up and saw a very familiar face that he was happy to see.
“Hey, Karen!”
The expectant woman grinned, and they hugged as tightly but loosely as they could given her condition. “Glad to see you!” He quickly peeked around. “Mal’s getting better, I hope?”
Karen nodded. “Yes, but he encouraged me to come anyway, and I’m going to film Lian opening our present for him. Plus…” She glanced around at the little ones laughing and having fun. “When you’re going to be a member of an exclusive club like this, you don’t turn down the invite for what you’re expecting.“
“Absolutely,” he agreed, thinking of his protégé and how excited he was for the couple.
“So, uh…how’s Karen?” she asked as she cradled her baby bump.
Jim grinned. “Your, uh, closest ‘geranium’ is doing well, and she hopes you’ll come back and visit soon.” He liked to see how Karen’s eyes lit up. “They all miss you and can’t wait to hear about your dissertation. Definitely let me know if—”
What cut him off was a squeal of laughter, and Donny and Dawn jogged behind the other kids, waving their arms and making silly noises. Artemis secured a few pictures, but Will could not laugh. He watched his daughter and a friend from daycare attempt to hula hoop, but both failed miserably. Fortunately, Lian just laughed, and so did her friend. He noticed Roy succeed in opening a bottle of water with one hand and offer a kid a juice box.
Then Will looked over his daughter’s head and panicked when he saw Mera put her hand to her son’s forehead. The prince must have dehydrated himself in the moon bounce. Will grabbed a water bottle and hurried over. “Here,” he said. “He looks thirsty.”
“Thank you,” Mera said as she handed her son the bottle and encouraged him to drink. Will checked to make sure nobody was watching, but he was worried. He wanted his daughter’s birthday to be perfect, and that did not include a child passing out, especially an Atlantean.
When Artur took deep breaths, Will fanned him as best as he could. “If you want, the bathtub is upstairs if he needs a good soak.”
“Thank you, Will,” Mera said, “but I think he’s good for now.”
“You sure?” Will asked the prince. Artur hesitated but nodded. Will sighed in relief and chuckled when he saw some of the day care moms—Denise and Nicole—standing close to Jim, who looked amused and uncomfortable. Nicole, with the black hair, nodded to what he was saying and brushed something off his shoulder.
***
“Lois! I’m so glad you and Jonathan could make it!” the host greeted the last guest before he welcomed the two inside.
“Thank you for inviting us,” Lois said. “I mean, I know he’s a little young for birthday parties, but it means a lot that you welcome us here.”
“Of course.” Will led mother and child to the backyard and ruffled the baby’s hair. “My daughter enjoys playing with your son, and she wanted him to come.” Then he clapped his hands and put on his best host smile. “All right, everyone, who’s ready for the piñata?”
Even little Jonathan bounced in his mother’s arms as he watched the children line up. Artemis took a picture of her niece clutching the Sky piñata before Jim hung it over a tree branch and Roy tied a bandana over Lian’s eyes. He handed her a wooden baseball bat.
“Hey, no fair!” Jennifer whined. She pointed to the older kids behind her. “They’re bigger than we are, they’ll hit it better!” Then came a little chorus of protests, and Will panicked. He tried to read his daughter’s face, but it was hard given the blindfold.
“Not quite, kiddo,” Jim said with a smile. “Who says that I can’t lift”—he tugged on the rope so the piñata went up a few inches higher—“for the taller ones?”
“Damn, he’s so hot,” Will heard Kath mutter to herself or the other mothers. He tried not to chuckle, even though he knew that if Jim found out, he would have turned red.
It took about half an hour and tiny cheers of encouragement, but at last Sky broke apart when Amistad whacked the side, and a shower of candy poured onto the grass. Children rushed over and grabbed handfuls of Tootsie Rolls, sugar stix, Twix bars, Kit Kats, lollipops, and Twizzlers, which their parents said they would hold onto until after presents.
“All right, everyone,” Will said after he checked the time, “who’s ready for birthday cake?”
Roy would never admit to anyone that a hoard of tiny legs and bodies nearly trampled him to the ground in a rush into the house, and he was sure that one kid kicked him in the gut, but nobody noticed because everyone in the kitchen impatiently watched as Will removed the cake from the refrigerator.
Will set down the giant Paw Patrol cake in front of his daughter, with the 3 candle lit and dancing. It was 4:16—the exact same time that Lian was born, after her mother was in labor for sixteen hours. The birthday girl and her friends bounced in their seats as Will and Lian posed for her aunt. Then Will let her take a picture of all the guests before he said, “All right, everyone sing…”
“Happy birthday to you…”
Lian blew out the candle, and her friends, their mothers, her father, her aunt, and her uncles clapped and cheered. Then Will slowly cut the cake into equal wedges and set them on tiny Paw Patrol paper plates for the children. (He then worried that someone would notice that he gave Donny and Dawn slightly bigger slices and regretted not ordering a stack of cupcakes for everyone so the twins wouldn’t detect if they were eating something sugar-free).
Lian, for no reason, ended up shoving her slice of cake in Roy’s face. Her friends burst into laughter, while their mothers blushed. Jim chuckled, but then he felt a stranger caress his arm and then his back a little too much for his liking. Will, for once, stopped worrying and started laughing. His daughter was happy. She was making other children laugh.
Roy, who thought that Lian had wanted to whisper something in his ear, stared as cake fell from his face and onto the table. Lian giggled and licked her fingers. He shrugged and ruffled her hair. Little goofball—he couldn’t get mad at her. Then he searched for a napkin, but his eyes instead hit Artemis holding a camera, pointing in his direction, clicking more than once. The humiliation came back in a fresh wave. He needed to break that camera apart and burn it. He could not let anyone else see evidence that a three-year-old “caked” him like a newly married couple to each other.
“Jennifer, no!” Lynn warned as she grabbed her daughter’s wrist before she could shove her own slice into her sister’s face. Anissa either didn’t care or was laughing too hard to notice. Will grinned as everyone ate and Jonathan smashed his fist into his own slice, and then he, Artemis, and Jim carried the presents and set them on the table where the cake had been.
At Auntie Mouse’s request, Lian had to open Grandmommy Paula’s gift first, though everything was filmed anyway. Paula gave her granddaughter two dolls that she had since she was a girl, a black dress, and a storybook in Vietnamese. Although Lian was not learning to speak Vietnamese fluently, she was able to read and understand some vocabulary. Will helped his daughter read aloud the letter his mother-in-law wrote, Lian in love with her grandmother’s handwriting. Artemis couldn’t help but feel like crying because Paula said the best words to her little sunshine.
Artur gave her a pink conch and told her to hold it to her ear so she could hear the ocean. Lian nearly squealed because it sounded so real, but not even the little prince could explain why it could do that. Jennifer gave her a Justice League coloring book that featured nearly every hero in its history (Lian knew better than to point out that she found her own daddy in the book) and a stack of crayons, Anissa bought with her own money Green Arrow and Black Canary plushies for Lian’s collection, while Amistad’s gift was a kiddie bow and arrow set with suction cups, and Traya’s a kid-friendly book on different religions. Jonathan’s parents gave her a Superman teddy from Build-a-Bear, Donny and Dawn a picture album of their adventures to the beach and the zoo, and Zehra two stuffed cats. Khary gave her a collection of Peppa Pig plushies, Greg a candy-making kit, and Brandon the same set of Paw Patrol rain boots that he had so they could be "twins” for the daycare’s upcoming trip to an apple orchard.
Roy gave her the Brave read-along book, Artemis a collection of clothes, and Jim a suitcase with wheels to carry books, clothes, and toys for when she came to visit him, her name embroidered in sapphire blue. All three of them also gave her cards declaring their absolute love for the niece they shared and how she lit up their lives.
After Lian opened a bumblebee pillow pet from Mal and Karen, Will handed her his present. She pulled apart the wrapping paper to the solar system set that she wanted for a long time and a framed poem of a father’s love and wishes for his daughter. Everyone, even Roy and Jim, started tearing up as Will coached his daughter into reading it out loud. He promised to hang it over her bed after the party.
Afterwards, the party spent the afternoon in the living room. The TV played Paw Patrol, but the children alternated between watching and engaging in other activities. Lian and Jennifer made buzzing noises to Jonathan using the bumblebee pillow pet. Artur, Traya, Anissa, and Dawn gathered at the coffee table while Jim entertained them with card tricks, and Masasa gave him coffee and a wink. Roy feigned interest as Donny, Greg, and Zehra sang along to whatever was on TV again and bounced on his lap and the couch. Amistad, Brandon, and Khary played Justice League while Raquel, Mera, Iris, and Karen got to know Nicole, Kath, Denise, and Grey. Will talked mostly to John and watched as Artemis made sure to snap pictures of everything.
Slowly, beginning at six, the guests began to leave. Jennifer and Donny whined and complained as their respective mothers escorted them out, but they were excited to go home and open their party bags. Although the parents helped Will clean up as much as they could, only John, Roy, Mera, and Jim stayed. By the time Mera and John left, with Traya and the prince behind them, Will thought he was going to cry in relief. It was hard playing host and keeping an eye out on little bodies. Roy ordered a pizza for the remaining four adults to share as they finished the ice cream, and Will began washing the dishes.
“Did you have fun, baby girl?” Artemis called out. A yawn was her response. Artemis chuckled and walked into the living room to sit beside her exhausted niece, rubbing her eyes and struggling to hold up her head. “Ready for bed? You must be sleepy.”
“No,” she sighed. “I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
Lian nodded but yawned again. Artemis smiled and prepared to slide her hands under her niece’s body, but Lian made a noise of protest. “No, I want Daddy.”
“Is everything okay, Li?” Will asked as he stepped out of the kitchen.
Lian nodded and held out her arms. “Daddy put me to bed.”
Will smiled and picked her up. Her head immediately landed on his shoulder. “Oh, my little girl’s exhausted,” he said. “Did you have fun today?”
Lian nodded as he carried her into the kitchen so Jim and Roy could hug her goodnight before she went to bed. “I did,” she whispered.
Will gave Lian a quick bath and had to keep his hand on her back to keep her from falling asleep in the tub, and brushed her teeth for her while she struggled to keep her mouth wide open. Lian sleepily wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his collarbone as he helped her into her pajamas. Will laid her onto the mattress, but before he pulled the covers to her chest, Lian threw her arms around him again. “Thank you, Daddy,” she yawned. “It was the best birthday ever.”

“Oh no, she hasn't Scored a goal yet!” i Exclaimed lately taking the cup.
“Well i’m sure mademoiselle Patricia well bet those Royal Sword bête!” Rook said with a smile. “I Sure hope so. Sports are so boring and having to be in the same place as Neige Is driving me crazy!” i Exclaimed drinking the Now cooled hot chocolate.
Rook Let out a chuckle, i shoot him a glare.
“Sorry Roi du Poison, you're just so cute when you Show disgust!” Rook said Lightly covering his mouth with his leather gloved hand.
I rolled my eyes, but soon my eyes Snapped back to the game Once a loud and obnoxious sound rang through. “Roi du Poison she did it she Scored!” rook Exclaimed excitement lacing his voice as he stood to his feet, Nearly spilling his hot chocolate on to the ground.
I looked around the Rink to see if I could spot her, Only to find her with HIM, Neige Was practically hanging off of her, she had Managed to lift him in her Excitement, i could fell the Venom of jealousy Bubbling up, i wanted to push him off of her, i wanted to be in his place, soon The the alarm rang,, I let out of grumble realizing the game was over. “Lets go rook, i’m cold!” I exclaimed with Venom. “But Roi du Poison, What about Patricia?” rook asked. “She’ll understand, she Knows I don't do well in the cold!” I said my back awy from him. I Tensed up as i heard the Cheers from the team, they were getting close, no Doubt going for something warm to celebrate the teams semi victory! “Hay Your Royal Highness, are you going to stand thaer or Are you going to freeze your Ass off!” Leona Shouted Teasingly.
I could practically feel my nails digging into my palm as I suppressed the urge to punch him. “No i Mustn't I have a lot of work to do in the morning, the Queen needs his beauty sleep!’ I said.
Leona rolled his eyes at him and the rest of the Students carried Patricia off to the Direction of Mostro Lounge.
“Vill, is everything ok, you can tell me?” Rook Quietly said as he reached his hand out for my shoulder.
I Smacked his hand away and gave him a dirty look as I walked back to my dorm. (Patricia perspective, Mostro Lounge.)
I sat in a Crowded Booth with a big smile on my face, everyone was catering Amongst themselves. “You did Fantastic my dear!” Crowley Happily praised. “Oh Thank you sir, i’m sorry we didn’t win!” i Exclaimed with a smile. “Are you Kidding that was the first time we even made it on the leaderboard!” Crowley Exclaimed raising his hands up in the air.
I let out a giggle, and soon are food came, i smiled up at a Very Sweaty looking Floyd still in his Hockey jersey. “You played Grate Floyd!” i Exclaimed enthusiastically.
He Let out a chuckle.as he gave out the rest. “Oh come on Shorty you're pretty modest!” Leona Happily exclaimed as he put my head in a headlock and gave me a noogie .
“ Easy up, she’s are star player!” Silver let out a giggle as he playfully punched his arm .
We all let out joyful laughter, but deep in my mind I fault sadness, Vill wasn't here with us and we're celebrating without him, but i Tried not to think about it too much. (The next day Still (Patricia perspective)
“Did you do the homework last night?” Idia asked as we walked together to Mr. Trein's class. “Yep, i did it before the game!” I exclaimed as we walked in. Idia soon Took his seat in the back row as I made my way towards the front, i noticed an Empty seat by Vill. “Thanks for saving me my spot!” i said with a smile. Vill turned his head toward me, his Expression practically ooze Revolution. “This seat is taken!” he Exclaimed. “Oh, ok.” I said as I took the seat behind him. As Students started filing in I quickly noticed that nobody took the seat next to Vill, I new Rook didn’t have this class, so Vill seat Alone. Soon the 2 hour class was over, i got up from my Seat, i was about to talk to Vill but before i knew it he was gone.
“Are you ready to go, I heard they're selling Pizza in the cafeteria!”  Idia Shyly spoke.
I gave him a Small Smile as I followed him out. We soon Arrived at the very busy and bustling cafeteria. “Wow I've Never seen it this busy before, well you be ok Idia?” I asked. It was at that moment that I lost Sight of him until I could feel fingernails digging into my shoulders, he was hiding Behind me shivering in fear.
I took his hand and Lightly guided him to the lineup. It’ll be ok, will eat in the Library and I'll message the group to meet us there!” I said Quietly as I lightly stroked his hand with my thumb.
I could feel him Burying his face in my hoodie hood. I soon grabbed the two Slices and quickly moved out of the Cafeteria.
Once we were in the Hallway Idia broke away from his tight grasp on my back.
“S..S..Sorry about that!” Idia said with a sight blush looking away from me. “It's ok Idia, I get anxious sometimes too!” I said with a smile as I handed him a slice of pizza.
Idia smiled as he took the slice, he muttered a light “Thank you.” as we walked to the library. As the two of us walked in we were greeted by Group, Malleus, Azul,Jade and Floyd, and lastly Leona.
“Hay Pipsqueak comes over and pulls over a chair! You too  Radish sprout!” Leona shotted.
I smiled and ran over with Idia Following suit.
“Hey guys, did we miss much? I asked with a smile.
“”Nothing To Important, Other than the fact that the Mostro Lounge  Is as Barren as the desert at the moment, who Knew so many people love pizza!” Azul Said rather defeatedly.
“I don’t get why you're upset, last night you had a great turn out cus of the game, you should be happy you get a break!” Leona exclaimed, crossing his arms and leaning in his Chair.
Azul rolled his eyes as he stabbed his Fork into his salad.
I let out a giggle, but in the corner of my eye I could see a Flow of purple.
“Um..i’ll be right back!” i Exclaimed as I stood from my chair.
I started to walk over to him but soon picked up the speed, i Quickly hid behind a bookshelf, i took a deep breath as i Approached him.
“Hi Vill, hows it going?” i asked with a smile.
He was quiet at first but soon did a sharp turn around, his Violet eyes glare daggers at me, I could feel the Pure Distaste coming from him. Without saying a Word he left roughly bumping my shoulder.
I just stood there, my heart was Beating Fast and it felt like i was going to cry. “Whats with him, did he get His Ruffles in a bunch!” Leona  Exclaimed folding his arms and rolling his eyes.
It was then that Leona noticed my tears and put a hand on my shoulder.
“Hay, I know I'm not good at this but..it’s ok.” he spoke Quietly.
I lightlee smiled at him, i soon walked back with him to the others.
(Hour Later  (Patricia perspective)
It was the end of the day and i was down setting in my room feeling sad because of Vill, I wanted Answers. I soon found myself standing in front of Pomefiore, I walked up to the door, it didn’t take long before Rook Answered the door.
“Bonjour mademoiselle Patricia, are you here for Roi du Poison?” Rook asked with a smile.
“Yes, i need to talk to him!” i exclaimed.
Rook smiled as he stepped aside for me, I smiled back at him as I walked past.
I knew where Vill’s room was, after all he would help me do my hair for the big game.
Soon I was standing in front of his Gorgeous purple door.
I reached for the door, my hand was shaking but I knew I had to do this, so i Built the courage up and knocked on the door.
“Who is it~!” he sweetley asked.
“It’s me Patricia, Vill i want to talk!” i Lightly spoke
It was Silent until I heard footsteps.
“What do you want!” He spoke Venom lacing his tone as he open the door slowly
“I want to know why you're mad at me?” I said putting my hand on the door frame.
He let out a dark Chuckle as he rolled his eyes.
“Oh please, you know what you did!” he said Coldly.
“Come on Vill please don’t be like this..lets talk!” I exclaimed.
“There's nothing to Discuss Patricia!”  He spoke Venom, lacing his tone.
“Obviously there's something!” I exclaimed moving closer, Vill hissed as he blacked away.
“Vill please talk to me, stop Avoiding the question!” I said, still walking closer to him.
Vill soon stopped meeting the end of his room, he looked away.
“Leave!” Vill’s voce was quiet.
“Vill.” i sopek. “I SAID LEAVE!” he shooted, pushing me out, i could feel his anger as we Reached the door,he pushed me to the floor, before I could say anything he Slammed the door.
I let out an Angry breath as i got back to my feet, i Angrily walked away, but was soon Interrupted by Rook. “Mademoiselle Patricia, did you speak to Roi du Poison,is everything ok? He asked Tilting his head.
“He doesn't want to talk to Rook, I'm just going, see you Tomorrow! I said.
Rook gave me a sad look as I walked away from him, once I reached the door I gave one more look to the room and left.
I took a deep breath of the cold winter air, as i Descended the porch steps a distant song could be heard.
I Decided to follow it, the singing was coming from deep in the Forest That bridged the two colleges.
As I walked Further  that's when I saw him..Neige!
Neige’s eyes britinged once he saw.
“Patricia, what are you doing here? He asked happylee walking toward me.
“Oh just on a walk!” i said Nervously rubbing mt head.
He smiled up at me and i did the same.
“You know Patricia, i think Vill Is one of the luckiest guys in the world because he gets to spend time with you whenever he wants!’ he Shiley exclaimed, blushing and looking away.
I smiled Slightly, i had almost forgotten how Blind he was to Vill’s Jealousy, if only he knew.
It was than that the Silent of the forest seemed so loud, all that could be heard was The breeze blowing through the trees and my own breathing, it was than that the Silence was Pierced by the sound of a stick cracking, Neige Jumped in Surprise, he was Practically clinging to me, i put my hand on his back.
“It’s ok Neige, it’s only a stick Cracking your safe!” i Reassured in a Calming voice.
Once he cumed down he Realized how close he was and instantly jumped away. “S..S..sorry Patricia!” he Said embarrassed.
I let out a Small giggle, but was soon Distracted by a deep purple colour over some bushes where the stick broke.
I soon looked back at Neige who was Oblivious To what i had saw.
“Um Neige, would you like me to walk you back!” i asked still Lately looking over at the bush but still maintaining my attention on him.
“Oh Patricia, how very kind of you!” He was practically beaming.
I smiled as the tow of us stared for his Campus leaving the mysterious cloaked figure behind to watch. ( Vil perpasttive.)
I Glared Venom at Rook, who in Turn just gave me a shy smile. “YOU IDIOT! SHE HEARD USE!”  i Angrily exclaimed.
“I Apologize to Roi du Poison, I Don't know what came over me I guess his cuteness is just beyond comparison!” he Passionately exclaimed Dramatically flinging his hand up to his forehead.
I rolled my eyes, his Flair for the dramatic always annoyed me. “I asked you to Come along with me because you're a competent Hunter, Not a love-struck buffoon who's idiocy almost cost us!” I spate.
Rook gave me a Concerned look. “You know if you only talked to her this would have never happened!” Rook said.
I glared at him,i put my hand on his cest and Shoved him slightly as I turned around. “I’m going back to the dorm, I have things to take care of when she comes back I want you to walk her home. No questions asked, do I make myself clear!” i Spoke calmly
Rook was Silent for a little bit until he spoke. “Crystal!” he said With a sad tone. I Smirked to myself as I walked back. (An hour later.) I Felt exhausted as I wiped the sweat from my brow and looked down at my pain, it was Covered in Black Ink, i knew It was dangerous but I didn't care, The little Brat had it coming, I wanted her all to myself and the Only way I could do that was to get rid of the source of her attention, I looked at the Clock resting on my bed stand it red 12:00pm.
I Smirked as I grabbed the vial of poison and a Slice of apple pie from  Mostro Lounge, I poured the Vile slowly as the green liquid dissolved in the sugar dessert.
“Now to Deliver it !” I smile.
I Quickly put it in a Cutely designed cardboard box and swiftly through my dark purple cape over myself, and Descended into the darkness of night.
With the dark of night Masquerading me, i had no problem getting close to Royal sword Academy, i used a spell to Teleport in to Neige’s room, i walked over to his bed side and placed the box, i Smirked, i didn’t want to leave until i saw him fall.
I looked around the room, it was than i fond what i was looking for, his Closet, i walked over and Slowly and quietly opened it, Ivan shut it quietly but left a little space in the door, it was then that i Noticed my hand and forearm was completely covered in black link, I was taken aback at first but then had an idea, i stuck my hand out and Scratched violently at the door.
Soon i Watched Neige spring up in his bed, He was shaking like a leaf, but soon his Anxiety calmed when he spotted the Box, i smirked as he ReachedFor the Box and opened it on his lap, he took the piece of pie in his hand and took a Delicate bite.
Soon hafe the Place was gone, he froze and fell to the side of his bed, that's when i Bursted through the closet doors and let out a maniacal laugh as I leaned over his sleeping form, i was Soon taken out of my victory when I heard a large amount of footsteps, a Group of guards busted through the door and flocked into the room, i Couldn't help but chuckle as i Blasted them with a poison spell, it was than i Felt engulfed in negativity, it Swallowed me whole and much like a caterpillar coming out of a cocoon I had transformed.
“Ha You fools!” i Shouted as i engulfed the In a poisonous Fog, and with that i left.
As i Descended through the forest i noticed the Here in the Woodland creatures eyes as I sped past, i Couldn't help but chuckle.
Once out of the forest i Caught a glimpse of Ramshackle Dorm, I smirked as I thought of her sleeping face and how easy it would be to take her for myself.
So that was my plan, i walked up to her door, that Stupid cat always left the door open even if Patricia Lock it, i Descended the stairs to her bedroom, the door creaked and i Mentally cursed myself but much to my Surprise she stayed sleeping.
I picked her my and Delicately carried her out, I was almost out until a shael voice cut in.
“What are you doing with Patricia?” grim Shouted, i sent him a glare and Quickly hit him with a spell and dispersed.
 (The Next day, Patricia perpasttive.)
My eyes fluttered open, I noticed something on my wrist, I froze when I realized I was not in my own room, My eyes Darted to my right to see Vill’s Violet Eyes staring at me.
“Good morning my darling!” vill happily exclaimed sightlee holding me closer.
I was frozen in place, his Inky black hands Caressed my cheek.
“Why am I here, Aren't we in a fight?” I asked Nervously.
He blinked for a sendon but soon snuggled me closer.
“Why would i be mad, you were just Blind before, but don’t worry i have taken care of it!” he exclaimed, Overjoyed.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked Slightly moving away from him.
Vill’s eye twitch.
“It’s not imported, what matters is your finally with me, I have you all to myself.” he said moving closer to me and lightly cupping my cheek.
“Vill what did you do?” i Asked more sternly.
His face Darkened as his grip on my face Tightened.
“I told you it’s not imported, YOUR MINE! He Exclaimed raising his voice and bringing my face closer to his.
I could feel myself trembling, his eyes Buried into me,but he soon Softened.
“I shouldn't shout at you my love!’ he said crassing my cheek.
My mind was running a Mile-a-minute, his Emotional whiplash was like a sharp knife, his lips Passionately Crash into mine, i didn’t want this, i Tried to push him away but he was very strong in this form. “Why do you Struggle, Don’t you want my love,YOU WOULD LET HIM!” He explained his tone getting louder as he spoke.
I took this Opportunity to push him off, causing him to fall to the floor, i Immediately ran to the door, but the Handle wouldn't budge. “Good luck trying to Escape, Your Precious little Neige won’t be there for you to Sweep him off his feet!”vill spat.
I froze, it finally hit me, his Behaviour finally made sense, he was Jealous… and he took it out once angen on Neige. “Vill, what did you do to Neige?” I asked Drifting out of my thoughts and once Again sounded Stern.
Vill Glared at me, his Violet eyes were piercing, he stood up from the ground and walked over to me, he grabbed me by the Colour of my shirt and pushed me up Against the wall.
“ It’s always about him isn’t it, YOU LOVE HIM DON’T YOU!” he Shouted Black Tears falling from his pale skin.
“Well i’ll show you that i’m the better man..Better than him in every way!” he exclaimed. His face was close to mine, his lips once angen On mine and I could slowly feel his hands under my shirt, his sharp nilles Scratching my stomach, at this moment i knew i couldn't just push him off angen he’ll just get mad, i need to snap him out of it. “Vill Pleasle, You Don’t need to do this!” i Exclaimed with sad eyes.
He Let out a dark chuckle. “My dear you can give be puppy dog eyes all you want but that won’t changes what you did to me!” he Venomously said.
“I DID NOTHING TO YOU!” i Angrily exclaimed.
“OH YHA YOU HEID NEIGE IN YOUR ARMS, YOU NEVER DID THAT TO ME!” he snapped. “Vill, You know why i don’t hold you like that, you have Breast to me on multiple occasions that you don't want your clothes to be wrinkled or makeup messed up!” i Comely spoke.
He froze, i looked down at his Clawed hands who are now shaking, he fall to his Knees in Defeat.
Suddenly the window salon open in the gust of wind blue into the room Engulfing Vill in Magical energy, he was back to Normal.
“I’m sorry...I’m Sorry!” he Spoke shaking.
I walked over to him, i Knelt Down and offered him my hand.
“ Apology accepted.” i said with a smile.

GamTav Week Day Seven: Free Day
OK LISTEN I really like this asethetic for these two. It’s my favourite. And this one’s actually shippy right now, even if only pre-dating it’s the best one.
~
It takes them a while, more than a while, to drift back into each other’s spheres of existence.
They’d both been doing different things with their lives; becoming trolls that they could be happy with without the attachment of flushed or pitched quadrants. That didn’t mean that they didn’t date though, Gamzee knew that he’d dated a number of individuals, troll and human alike, just to get the taste of what he’d wanted in a partner down, to learn to enjoy sharing himself without someone that wanted to know him for however long they lasted.
And he knew from the grapevine that Tavros had been doing the same.
There’s nothing really special that draws them back towards each other in the matter of quadrants.
Karkat had been convinced into throwing a party by his boyfriend Dave and Dave’s girlfriend Jade for some event or another and they’d all been invited, Gamzee had spent most of the night making small talk with those that weren’t outwardly hostile towards him and avoiding near everyone else. All and all it’d been a fun night.
He didn’t know who approached who first, if either of them had or if they’d just gravitated together like magnets that recognized the other’s charge as opposing to their own.
That hardly mattered in the end though, not when Tavros was standing in front of him, looking like he’d finally grown into the proud, imposing length of his horns, not to mention into the size of them, towering over Gamzee in both height and the breadth of his shoulders, a feat only one other troll had a claim to.
“Yo,” Gamzee decided to be the first to speak, ending their silent inspection of each other; instinct to check out the competition left over from their days on Alternia he was sure.
“Hey,” there wasn’t even a beat of hesitation to the answer, to Tavros’ willingness to talk to him. It reminded Gamzee keenly of their younger sweeps, back when they’d both been innocent and largely unmarred by the world around them. It was nice in the way that old memories were once they stopped hurting you. “I didn’t know you uh, you were drinking.”
“I’m not,” Gamzee couldn’t help but snort, remembering the support meetings and life coaching sessions he still attended on a regular basis to stop himself from sliding back into the addiction that had been ingrained in his very image of himself since before he could remember. “S’apple juice. Strider specialty.”
“Oh, that uh, that explains it.” Tavros looked a little flustered at that, a soft bloom of bronze on his cheeks, but easily laughed off as conversation continued. “What have you been doing since we uh, since we last…”
“Since we was speakin last?” The offered words were taken with a small self-conscious smile, acknowledged without needing to be said as such. “Been good, workin’, makin a routine for myself and bein all productive like ya’know?”
“Yeah I uh, heard from Equius that you opened your own place?”
A painted brow rose. “You two been talkin ‘bout me, have ya? S’a weird topic a pillowtalk.”
“What?!” That has him, colour spreading deep and bright over Tavros’ nose and the top of his cheeks, the spread of it to his ears obvious with the way the other troll cut his hair. “N-no! No not like that at all! I, I mean—”
“Chill bro, s’all good,” he chuckled, Tavros deflating from his flurry of justification and explaining with a sigh. “I ain’t real carin how and what other motherfuckers say ‘bout me, s’all cool.”
They lapse into quiet, Tavros focusing down on the glass of something definitely alcoholic in his own hand while Gamzee turned his head to inspect one of the nearby food platters, debating if he was hungry enough to try one of the oddly coloured creations.
“It wasn’t that though,” Tavros broke the quiet as Gamzee decided to just go for it, a piece of cracker with something on it in his claw.
“Hmm?”
“It wasn’t uh, wasn’t pillowtalk. He and I were just catching up the other day and he uh… told me about when he ran into you.”
“He does that a lot,” Gamzee hummed, playing at being more focused on what was in his hand than the troll in front of him. “Ya think for a troll that big he’d been more cautious a where he’s going but nah. Trolls fallin all over under his motherfuckin hooves, yeah?”
“He said you were seeing someone.”
“I’m always seeing some motherfucker,” he pointed one, returning his gaze to Tavros as he tilted his head just so the pretty pale pink diamond stud in his ear could be seen, the violet gem inlaid in it glinting in the light of the room. “Believe you me everyone else is gonna know when Eribro’s tired a me ‘fore I do.”
“No,” the word was accompanied by a rough shake of Tavros’ head, brow furrowing deep. There’s frustration in his voice now, not too uncommon an occurrence for anyone talking with Gamzee for more than a few minutes. “You know for someone that doesn’t like being lied to you sure do a lot of it.”
“You’re the motherfucker beatin’ ‘round the bush like it all up and kicked ya lusus,” Gamzee shot back, surprising Tavros enough for his face to go slack with it. “Iffin ya wanna ask me ‘bout the motherfuckers I was seein, quad or nah, just come out and motherfuckin say it. We’re bein adults now, yeah?”
A pause. A beat. Gamzee’s ready to call this experiment a failure when Tavros spoke up again.
“…Are you seeing anyone now? Flushed-wise I mean?”
“Solbro and I vacillate on an’ off but ain’t got nobody permanent in there nah..”
Tavros nods and Gamzee goes back to inspecting the morsel in his claws, stepping forward into the other troll’s face as he opens his mouth to speak again, lifting it until it was resting just before the other’s mouth, claws near brushing warm lips as they parted.
“Try this for me?” Gamzee offered, cocking his head and staring up at Tavros, watching and waiting to see exactly what the bronze would do with the offering.
Tavros reacted exactly as he should have, colour on his cheeks as he leaned forward ever so slightly to take the piece of food into his mouth between his teeth, lips brushing over Gamzee’s fingers as he took the bite.
“How’s it tastin?” Gamzee asked after watching Tavros chew the morsel he’d bitten off, blinking as the other troll nodded down at him.
“It’s uh… it’s good.” He said, all the answer Gamzee needed, humming and popping the rest of the piece into his mouth, more than aware of Tavros staring at him in return.
“It is,” he agreed, dragging his tongue purposefully over his own claws, fully aware of Tavros watching him. “Mayhaps ya should try some more for me yeah? There’s supposed ta be some new restaurant openin near my hive, ya should come and try it out with me yeah?”
“… Ye… yeah!” Tavros nodded, wide smile back on his face, bronze spreading across his cheeks. “Yeah I’d uh… I’d really like that.”
“Cool,” he purred. “We can be chattin at each other later ta be deciding times, yeah?”

The Traveling Ram and the Lonely Dragon
(Just a little short story I wrote up about my two characters, Ari and Lydia! Kora’s mentioned a few times, and Emperor Fallow and Emperor Thorton are referenced as well, but the only interactions that take place are between Ari and Lydia lol
I wish I could put a keep reading thing but I’m on mobile, so sorry for the block of text :/)
Ari pushed his way through the howling snow. He wasn’t exactly sure what he was expecting, he felt he should have known this would happen while he was climbing a mountain. He continued on never-the-less. The fierce wind stung his eyes, and his hooves cried out for relief.
He needed to stop and rest, but he couldn’t exactly set up camp in the middle of the storm. Instead, he squinted through the swirling snow, searching desperately for some sort of shelter. A cave, or even just a hole, would be preferable, but at this point Ari would take anything, just so long as it blocked the wind.
Ahead, in the blizzard, Ari could make out what looked to be a... Temple.
Though it was strange to see such an extravagant temple so far into the mountains, but for Ari it was a welcome sight. He made his way to the temple as quickly as possible, letting out a sigh of relief as he set his heavy bags down and collapsed on the floor of the structure. Around him were rows upon rows of jade pillars, each pillar covered floor to ceiling in intricate carvings. He stood back up, looking around in awe, taking a moment to take in every little detail.
The paper lanterns lining the hall, their lights having long burned out. The hanging incense burners, their ashes still emanating a faint and pleasant scent. The polished jade floors, and the deeply red rug that ran along them to the end of the corridor.
Last of all, the massive jade statue at the end of the corridor. It depicted the well-known Lydia, goddess of peace and love, carrying the symbol of the yin and yang. Before it lay a long platform of polished marble, presumably meant to hold offerings, for on it lay dusty piles of gold, painted lanterns, and two incense burners at either end.
Just as Ari went back to admiring the temple, the statue before him suddenly came to life with a loud crash. He fell back, as the statue changed color and grew in size, until the violet smoke around it cleared, to reveal the goddess herself. Looking up at her made Ari feel incredibly tiny.
She let out a melodious hum, the sound helping the startled ram to calm down a bit. She lowered her head to examine her visitor, then pulled back with almost a squeal of delight.
“Ohhh a visitor! How exciting, I haven’t had visitors in so long!” She gushed, lowering once more to examine Ari.
Ari’s jaw was agape, and he struggled for words. “I-I... You... Y-you’re... Lydia...”
Lydia let out another hum of delight. “Indeed I am! I’m so glad the people remember me, I was beginning to worry that I had been forgotten!”
“B-But you’re... You’re a goddess! The people worship you, do they not? How could they have forgotten you?”
She sighed. “Oh, yes. Well, technically a goddess.”
“Technically...? What do you mean ‘technically’...?” He questioned, trying his hardest to gather himself, so he would look presentable in front of the breath-taking being.
“Well, it is true that I carry great power. I can cast blessings and curses upon others, and other magical deeds. But, in all truthfulness...” She hummed again. “I’m just a very lonely dragon... Ah, please, do stop quivering. I know I am a strange sight for someone your size, but I promise I mean you no harm.”
He gulped down a wheeze of fear. “I’m... aware, you are the goddess of peace after all.” Finally, he managed to stand upright. “I just... find it rather terrifying to be conversing with someone who could very easily crush me, even if on accident.”
“Technical goddess.” She corrected. “And yes, I suppose it might be scary.”
With a great heave of her head, she looked outside of the temple, at the raging storm outside. “Hmm... It would be terrible for you to leave in this weather. Would you like to stay a while? I have several blankets offered to me by past visitors.”
“... Thank you...” Ari nodded. He appreciated the offer, but truth-be-told he probably would have stayed there even if she hadn’t offered.
A few minutes later and Ari was wrapped up in a warm blanket, the paper lanterns along the wall now lit by Lydia’s careful flame, and a few dried branches blown into the temple over the years now feeding a crackling fire.
He took bites out of the provisions he had in his pack, glancing over at the dragon every now and then. Eventually, he decided that the howling wind wasn’t doing enough to break the silence. He spoke.
“... Why... why are you lonely?”
“Hm?” The dragon hummed. Her head was resting on the stand that once held her when she was a statue, her drooping eyes trained on Ari curiously.
“Earlier you described yourself as a ‘very lonely dragon’, why are you lonely?”
“Ah.” She clicked her tongue in thought. “Well, I suppose it’s because nobody visits my temple any more.” With a forlorn sigh, she adjusted her position. “Oh, how Kora and I loved it when the people would visit our temples, asking for advice. Of course, we do still get hundreds of offerings from the people at the shrines throughout the empire, and the lovely emperors do visit to give us offerings every year.”
“Do you... not like the offerings?”
“Oh no, believe me, I love getting shiny new things just as much as the next dragon.” She smiled, beginning to look through the offerings on the platform, carefully blowing the dust away from the coins and other golden objects. “But, nobody comes asking for advice anymore! In the olden days, when the people first began to worship Kora and I, animals would travel far and wide to visit our temples, just to ask a question, sometimes even just to hold a conversation with us!” She let out another wistful sigh, then her face fell and her voice turned blunt. “But then the people stopped caring so much.” She huffed.
Ari looked at her with a small look of confusion. “But... they still worship you!”
“Yes, yes, that’s all fine and well... but it gets very lonely, living in this temple by myself. I haven’t even been able to visit my love lately...” The fins at the back of her head lowered, as if to express her overwhelming loneliness and despair.
Ari looked down, feeling sorry for the dragon.
“How long has it been since you last saw Kora?” He asked. He knew Kora to be the goddess of strength and protection, and Lydia’s lover, but didn’t know much more about their relationship.
Lydia paused, as if hesitating to say, then spoke, her voice soft and echoing with heartbreak. “... It’s been several thousand years...”
Ari gasped. “That long? That’s horrible! Why can’t you go visit her now?”
“I’m... weakening.” She shuddered. “A majority of my magic and strength comes from the people.”
“Surely our offerings give you some power?”
“Though that is true, offerings only restore a small portion of my strength. But the stories...” She lifted her head, a faint shimmer in her gentle eyes. “Oh, how hearing your people speak filled me with joy... but then... when everyone stopped coming to me to share stories, ask for advice, and listen to me speak, my power began to drain. I began to rely on offerings, having to fly out to collect them from shrines and bring them here. And now... look at me.” She lifted her wing and wiggled it weakly, a mild look of disgust on her face. “I’m pathetic. I can’t even fly to the bottom of the mountain to visit the shrine down there!”
Ari fell silent, thinking for a moment. “Well... I’m here now. I could tell you stories, would that help?”
She lowered her head to meet his level, her eyes wide and her fins perked. “You would do that? For me?”
He smiled. “Of course! It’s the least I can do. What would you like to hear?”
She thought for a moment, then shifted her position to a more comfortable one. “Anything you’d like to talk about! I love stories.”
Ari thought for a moment, then thought up a perfect story from his life. He began to tell it, and Lydia listened intently.
And he continued to tell stories, even after the storm had ended. The sun shone through the entrance of the temple, and a once very lonely dragon was now very happy.

I believe in a personal god who cares about me and worries and oversees everything I do. I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn't even know that I'm alive. I believe in an empty and godless universe of causal chaos, background noise, and sheer blind luck. I believe that anyone who says sex is overrated just hasn't done it properly. I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. I believe in absolute honesty and sensible social lies. I believe in a woman's right to choose, a baby's right to live, that while all human life is sacred there's nothing wrong with the death penalty if you can trust the legal system implicitly, and that no one but a moron would ever trust the legal system. I believe that life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you're alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it.” - Sam Black Crow, American GodsIM GONNA STOP NOW cause I’m too tired and this too long

Heya! If you're still doing trollswap stuff, how do you think John Peixes (there's a Jade and Dave Peixes and I wanna see this boy as tyrian), Rose Ampora (Idk I like Rose as seadweller purple but! that's just me), Jade Leijon (Dog girl...turned cat girl? :0, also Jade as a Witch of Heart is an interesting concept to me!), and Dave Maryam (Idk, Dave as a jadeblood would be cool, especially given that I think the jade caste is female majority?)
John Peixes, raised with as much wealth and power as a troll can have, with a lusus that makes demands but also loves him. Tbeh the idea of John using his power to hurt others is laughable, but I absolutely think that he’s the kind of person who would take advantage of his station to make sure that he’s first in line to see whatever cool new movie/game/interest of his that’s coming out. Is he going to burn down your neighborhood for the sake of a selfie background? No. Is he gonna post hella untagged spoilers for that movie you were looking forward to? You bet your ass. He’s well-intentioned over all, he likes all the warmer castes and has opinions ranging from “I mean what they’re up to is kind of not my business” to “they’re all so funny” depending on the mood of the night, a little condescending but never out of any malice. Nobody’s sure what to make of him because on one hand, it sorta sounds like he could have ideas for radical social reform in that he’s NOT mean to warm bloods and that’s usually how treason presents itself, but on the other hand he’s like… really endearing and his jokes are genuinely funny so most people actually really, really like him and are pretty pleased to be able to say “yes this one is our heir. He’s a little dumb but by god he’s doing his best.” There’s a sort of mutual back and forth of him looking at all of his subjects and going “aw cute” and them looking at him and going “fuck he’s adorable.” It’s possible that John, after maybe getting prompted from Rose or smth, uses his charm and social media presence (he’s got a sizable following, but no one is obligated to subscribe to his various channels) to start up a system where if someone in an area next to you dies, you can inform the heir and his orphaner and those lususes are donated to the cause of “Keep my horrorterror lusus from killing everyone by screaming.” He really doesn’t like killing things, it leaves a bad taste in his mouth and he gets. Weird. When he has to deal with death. So he’s really, really grateful he has a moirail like Rose to help take care of him! As Heir of Life, he’s got a pretty ridiculously high sense of empathy, especially considering the society he was raised in, and sometimes it can get so overwhelming he just shuts down. He’s compassionate, and interested in fixing things, but he isn’t sure how to DO that, aside from just, well, being himself. Taking things as they come to him. The universe is vast and cold and uncaring and he’s only one person in the midst of it all, and he knows that even though he was hatched into a position of pretty high political power, he’s still only ONE troll, and all trolls are killable. So he finds his balance by doing what he can, with what he has, where he is at. His quest is to embody the idea of giving his all, and he is truly awakened when he comes to the conclusion that what he has to give is enough. He is kind enough, tries hard enough, he is good enough just as himself, always bettering the situation around him to the best of his abilities and letting the rest of the universe sort itself out.
Rose Ampora, the most powerful and wealthy troll in Alternia except for one, who she is conveniently pale with. I think she’d be pretty similar to Rose Peixes in that she is driven and ruthless. She is second to no one, she’s top of the hemospectrum, a princess, royalty, she’s smarter, stronger, faster, better and she likes it that way. Her lusus is pretty lax, all things considered, content to go along with whatever she asks Seahorsemom to do, and it’s sort of frustrating that her lusus doesn’t share the same drive as she does, but convenient too, because that means whatever she wants, Seahorsemom will agree to, or at the very least acquiesce. If Rose starts misbehaving, Seahorsemom isn’t likely to enact any discipline, so Rose sort of has the run of the hive. Rose can be pretty mean when she wants to be, convinced of her own authority and superiority and raised on a violent, unfair planet in the deep waters of a violent, freaky ocean. Razor sharp and whip-fast reflexes are necessary to survive the deep sea, and transfer over into her everynight life and conversation styles. John is her best friend, and is the calm to her storm. He’s the one who tells her when she’s being too mean, or when someone wasn’t really trying to pick a fight with her, the one who laughs at other people’s jokes and clues her in that she shouldn’t be tensing up and reaching for her needles, the one who soothes her down and blurs the sharp edges on her, and she’s really, really grateful she has a moirail like John to help take care of her! As Seer of Hope, her goal is to stop focusing so much on the bad, on the violent way things were, she needs to stop thinking that all and any words thrown her way are threats or veiled mockery, and instead try to look towards the good, the prospects of the new world, the way things can become better without having to fight fang and claw for it. She’s always wanted better, you know. Always wanted to be better, herself, better, for her moirail, better, always trying, always clawing desperately for better, but she’s so focused on the negatives that that became impossible for her. As Seer of Hope, she must learn to change her perspective. Also, somewhat unrelated note, but violet Rose would be the best dresser Alternia has ever seen. Just sayin. She’s a disaster at all times always but that sure as hell doesn’t mean she needs to look like one.
Jade Leijon! Raised in a cave in the middle of the woods by an oversized, two-mouthed housecat who loves her! Pounce always seemed pretty spunky, from how Nepeta described her, so Jade still has a high-energy lusus that she can go out gallivanting about with! Jade, I can’t really see being a huntress, which may frustrate Pounce bc go!!!! Hunt!!!! It’s for food!!!!! We are cats!!!! But Jade is very likely content to just eat normal troll food and keeps her rifle on her for protection reasons. Of course, if anything in the forest decides that Jade is prey, it’s gonna lose that fight, and she’ll eat that, but she doesn’t like, go out of her way to hunt things. Having an affectionate cat for a lusus probably means Jade has a good understanding of “tell me to stop touching you and I will” but ALSO is the type of person to get aaaaaaaaaaaaall up in your personal space just like, casually, because she loves you and why wouldn’t she be here!!!! What do you mean you’re busy on the computer no you’re not, it’s time to cuddle with Jade now! Very likely still has her vast variety of interests, but her attention is more apt to flit between them, getting bored with something means immediately dropping it and going to something else. So he’s very smart and very impassioned about her interests, she just has a very non-linear way of going about it! Still super duper friendly and the local sweetheart of everyone, good at finding the way people like to communicate and successfully mimicking the other person’s communication style. This leads to her not being entirely sure of what her own personality is, because she’s a pretty big people pleaser and she feels like she puts on a different “mask” every time she talks to a different person, but really all that means is she’s very in tune to the emotions and personalities of the people she’s engaged with and very skilled at context-based decisions! As Witch of Heart, this is only emphasized, as she is the kind of person who is able to change emotions and the way her soul operates to best fit the needs she is presented with! Her nuanced capabilities are what let her really flourish as Witch of Heart, though sometimes the things that seem obvious to her make her come off as, paradoxically, emotionally distant. OBVIOUSLY her friends feel x way about y things, why are they making everything so complicated??? It’s simple, couldn’t be plainer, her friends are so silly and they can be sorta dumb sometimes, wow! But in reality Jade is the one who has that emotional clarity, and her friends aren’t being dumb, they’re just dealing with feelings and thoughts that are really complicated to them, despite seeming simple to Jade. She’s got a little bit of trouble with understanding that her experiences are not universal- there are some disconnects she’s gotta work through- but she’s deeply caring and very smart so it all works out for the best in the end.
Dave Maryam! So you said that the jadebloods were a female-majority caste and what immediately came to mind was “Dave is trans confirmed” so Dave is trans, confirmed. He lives alone in the desert, with a mothergrub for a lusus and we know the mothergrub really loved Kanaya and was very close to her so Dave has a good lusus, always blessed as a concept 10/10. I imagine he’d actually be really sick of the cold, since deserts get fucking chilly at night, and so he’s more of a daytime person, despite not really knowing why. Obviously he’s not a rainbow drinker, John, that’s absurd. Like how Dave in canon is all “lmao obviously I’m not gay” until he takes the time to figure out that yeah, yeah he is, despite overwhelming signs, that’s Dave with his own rainbowdrinking nature in this. Jade thinks he’s dumb and doesn’t understand what the issue is here. Dave thinks maybe SHES the dumb one, how about that! They’re dumb children and I love them. Isolation is exceedingly not-fun, and Dave can’t really get into photography cause there’s not a lot to photograph out here in the middle of nowhere. Not a lot of shit to die for him to put in jars, either. The ruins he lives close to are very interesting, though, so he ends up something of an archaeologist, digging up those ruins, trying to decipher them, funneling endless hours into those weird rocks and carved frogs and cryptic symbols because it’s one of the only things for him to DO out there in the middle of nowhere. He creates a VAST wealth of comics, also because art is one of the only things he’s able to do out there in the middle of nowhere, and the responses he gets from people who read (but generally don’t fully understand) his comics might be empty and artificial but so is the flimsy validation he gets from seeing his follower count rise and the notes go up. As Knight of Space he is similar to Dave Harley, in that he upholds the balance of the universe and needs to breed the new one, which STILL just means he’s the weird frog dad now. It’s interesting for him bc he always knew he was gonna be working with weird babies of one sort or another, and he was pretty comfortable with the role of fatherhood being something he would eventually assume, but instead of bug people he’s just got. Like. A bunch of weird frogs. Jade come check this out these things are NASTY lol. He enjoys them, but doesn’t form as close of an emotional attachment to them, because he’s been conditioned by Alternia and the structure of how his species reproduces to know that while they’re temporarily in his care, he must eventually set them off to go do their own things (like, say, becoming the universe, for example). His role as a father of these weird paradox frogs is the method by which he protects the universe and it’s existence, which is something that makes him feel incredibly important and gives him a sense of wholeness, which he deserves.

STORY TREATMENT
I Can’t Deicide Whether You Should Live Or Die: An Illustrated Choose Your Own Adventure Multimedia Murder Mystery
Dramatis Personae [Eris] – Greek goddess of discord. Huge asshole who thrives on ruining the relationships of others. Gets into a fight with Susanoo and Itzpapalotl that she’s been sowing the seeds of for the last ten years. Invites herself to Tala’s dinner party and winds up dead.
[Itzpapalotl] – Aztec star demon, goddess of death in childbirth and Tala’s girlfriend. Aggressive and proud, just like the people that once sacrificed life in her name, but pride is a double edged sword that reaps a thousand tiny infractions and repercussions.
[Tala] – Indigenous Filipino goddess of stars. Mild-mannered, sweet and generous with nothing but kind words to say about everyone. But generosity can go unchecked and become spinelessness, and sooner or later she’ll run out of self to give to others.
[Mahuika] – Polynesian goddess of fire. Calm, cool and calculating, with sensuality bubbling barely below the surface. Her intellect warms those she helps, but burns those who dare challenge it. Too smart to keep on your bad side, too conceited to keep as a friend.
[Cu Chulainn] – Irish folk hero and demigod, son and avatar of Lugh, a member of the Tuatha de Danann. Brave, strong and terrifying in battle, he is known for his “torque”, an ability that turns him into a terrifying beast-man. Strong, yes…. But too many knocks upside the head from enemy spears have made him a little slow. He is the audience conduit and detective of this story.
[Susanoo] – Japanese Shinto god of the summer storm and sea. Charming and intelligent, but his stormy tempestuous temper knows no bounds when challenged. He sees Cu Chulainn’s hapless attempts to solve the mystery and offers his assistance; who knows if he’s guilty and trying to hide his crimes, or innocently helping someone with less brainpower than himself.
[Nezha] – Chinese god of protection. Childlike and loyal to his enemies, he truly believes in protecting the innocent. However, too much obsessive protection and a need to stop conflicts can turn the best intentioned friend into an overprotective and overbearing stalker.
[Anansi] – West African and Caribbean folk hero and spider god of stories. Technically an outsider to the land of the gods, he does his best to please and help other gods with their issues in a desperate bid to ally himself with someone, anyone. He just wants to be respected.
[Butler] – the butler. Pops up sometimes with refills. He just wants to be noticed.
Setting: Tala and Itzpapalotl’s large bungalow on the beach by the ocean of stars.
Ambience and Lighting Notes [Indoor Scenes] – soft pale yellow glow like Christmas lights or tea candles floating in the air, enough light to be romantic and see the food, but enough darkness to mask many of the faces of the guests. Shading should be a deep mauve/orange.
[Outdoor Scenes] – pale purple, blue and white, like midnight on a starry evening. Starlight floating like fireflies in the air, bright but chilly. Shading should be a deep blue/violet.
The Plot: Eris’s latest plot has come to a head when she causes a fight between Susanoo and Itzpapalotl, before the two turn their fire on her. Halfway through dinner all the spheres of pale yellow light vanish for a moment, and when they return Eris is dead, laying face down in her crab, hands covered in crab grease still holding the mallets. Cu Chulainn, invited in his father’s stead as his avatar, takes it upon himself to solve the murder.
Possible Motivations [Susanoo] – she caused a fight between him and Itzpapalotl that revealed incriminating information about the two of them. He never liked her, and took umbrage at the fact that Tala let her in anyway.
[Itzpapalotl] – in addition to the above reasons, she always hated how Eris took advantage of her girlfriend’s kindness.
[Tala] – under all this pressure to perform as the perfect hostess already, she found herself in over her head when an uninvited guest chose to show up and ruin the party, and all she could find it in her heart to do was nod, because it was proper.
[Mahuika] – suspicious of the amount of dirt Eris had on her many trysts with all the other beings on this plane, she once threatened her with a palm full of fire. It was a big moment in their godly community, and nobody’s forgotten since.
[Nezha] – simply put, as a protector god he objected to anything that ruined the peace of his people and – now – of his friends. He might be willing to put an end to discord by any means necessary.
[Anansi] – the two had a mutual fling where they’d come over to each others’ houses and tell stories til the dawn, until one day she just stopped coming. He thought he’d found someone who understood him, but she all she did was mine him for gossip with which to ruin the lives of others.
[Eris] – she’s simply faking, and she’s good at it. What better way to cause discord at a dinner party than by holding everyone in the room up to agonizing scrutiny and judgment, ruining the evening and perhaps, with luck, a few friendships?
Music Choices For The Evening [Introduction and Canapes] – Chuck’s Swing (Pushing Daisies) [Initial Fight Breaks Out] – Dormant (Transistor) [Strained Dinner/Eris’s Death] – Haunted Panels (Portal 2) [Investigations Leading Nowhere] – Audrey’s Dance (Twin Peaks) [Susanoo Steps In] – On the Roof (Grim Fandango) [Starcrossed] – Owlboy Main Theme (Owlboy) [Piecing Together The Puzzle] – Jaegar Tech (Pacific Rim) [Confrontation] – The Unicorn and the Wasp (Doctor Who Series 4) [Resolution] – Sins of the Father (Metal Gear Solid V)
Character Themes [Eris] – Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) String Cover (Simply3) [Tala] – Waterfall (Undertale) [Itzpapalotl] – Orchid Horror (Homestuck) [Mahuika] – Arabella Instrumental (Arctic Monkeys) [Cu Chulainn] – Call Me Newt (Pacific Rim) [Susanoo] – In Case of Trouble (Bastion) [Nezha] – Jade Mother (Homestuck) [Anansi] – Spider8reath (Homestuck)
