Man, I miss the internet when you could just freely browse all sorts of niche blogs and fan sites without having to have an account anywhere... There was so much to explore! Now you need to have an account with Instagram and Tiktok before they'll let you see anything, or it's locked behind a paywall on someone's Patreon.
We used to "browse," like we were wandering free in a big pasture, and now it's a "feed," where someone keeps shoveling stuff into a trough in front of your face and you have to keep choking it down.
I miss "Free Range" internet is what I'm saying, I guess. Not this Content Factory Farming crap.

y'all. do you even know what you're missing if you don't watch play it by ear on dropout tv. they've got it all. nerds improvising musical theatre in a 30-40 minute format?? about everything and anything you could imagine??? polyamorous 90's teenagers spending a night at the mall. fun facts about platypuses. a noir detective that has an invisible vape. insanely horny ren faire shenanigans. a gay song about unicycles that will make you forget it's all improvised because it's just so fucking good. gay bear wedding. I could go on but I don't have to, because you can just go to dropout tv right now and check it out for yourself

im starting to get really pissed off about everyone bitching and moaning about how stupid and unpleasant Tumblr Live was. like, the guys that wanted to do Tumblr Live actually PAID TUMBLR. and the haters did not. it's like complaining that the candy shop has flavors you don't like when you don't ever buy anything there anyway. they gotta pay rent! and they're sure not getting it from you!
so fucking shut up already about tumblr live if you don't have a subscription. you're why it's been there.

I do find it kind of grating that people on this site love passing around articles about how the youth don't have a very good command of computer systems, but then also never seem to fully understand that it's possible to engage with media (esp music) (yes, legally) outside the context of streaming services, or what that does for you as a consumer. Like, the call is coming from inside the house kiddos.

Finally, the modern/band AU is more than idle coffee thoughts.
In which Shadowheart is part of a three-piece metal band that gets stuck in a town called Rivington. Where happiness and a much softer life is something that she doesn't think she deserves. Where she's always in danger of falling back into the relationship with her ex, the Avatar of the cult that raised her, who just so happens to be the band's frontwoman.
Featuring a modern version of my primary Tav, Asheera, as a mechanic who's just doing her job working on the band's broken down van when things get a little more complicated. You can peek at in-game shots and art of her here and here.
Rating: E for Eventual Smut
Category: F/F

Summary:
Shadowheart, the guitarist for a small-time metal band on tour, nearly crashes her band's van into an auto body shop in a podunk called Rivington. That's the least of her worries. Every day on the road revolves around the devolving relationship with her ex, the Avatar of her religion and the frontwoman of the band. Everything is Shar, and Shadowheart knows no escape nor if she deserves one.
At least until Ash, the head mechanic of that dinky garage, questions everything Shadowheart's ever known, digging into her life until they both bleed.
Ash told herself to forget about them. Forget about Shadowheart. She needed to make forgetting easy and turn her heart to stone to the attractive, enigmatic stranger.
That’s all Shadowheart was. That's all she should be.

peeking ahead on the episode list for Midst and this week's subscriber episode
The temptation to subscribe JUST to peek ahead at this episode and see whether Spahr is okay (well, he's not okay, I know this already, but you know...) is SO MUCH. It does NOT help that episode 16 looks like a Saskia episode, and I miss her.
