"Does the idea of dying scare you? Is that why you are being so...out of it tonight?" Your voice cuts through the tension filling the kitchen.
Your lover had come hurt again. Their eyes drain of their spark of life. All evening, their replies had been short, blunt, and cold. When you try to comfort them, they shrug you away with sheer indifference.
"What?" They answer while refusing to look up from the wound on their forearm.
How long have they been tending that cut now? An hour? Two hours? The both of you had lost track. The snacks you made early have surely gone cold by now.
But you two should eat, right? That will help, right?
"Did you come close to dying today?" You try to keep your voice to steady. From experience, you know any temble in your voice will worry them. But oh, the clacking of the dishes in the snack tray displays your trembling hands for all.
"Let me help." They stand up and rush to your side. With a whisk of their hands, the tray is traded. They carry it to the kitchen table and set it down.
Then, a deep inhale cuts through every single whisper within your head.
"No, but we lost others." They keep their back turned to you. Their eyes glued to the sandwiches and cookies you made just for them.
"I was powerless. They looked like-" Before they could finish the sentence, you rush over to hug them from behind. You burry your face into their back, praying tears do not fall.
"I am right here. I am alive." Your voice cracks out.
And like that, they spin you aroubd to hold you tightly. With the energy they had left now gone, the two of you fall to the ground, tangled together. Neither of you are willing to let go of each other anytime soon.
"I am alive. You are alive. We are safe and sound, right here, right now." You repeat over and over again as their eyes fill with tears.

Can I request envy x gn reader who found him when he was is his little worm form and took him in? And then he reveals himself or something and him and reader just live together? I feel like that would be fun.
Okay I love this request, honestly I find his little worm form adorable. I am sorry for the veeery late reply, thank you so much for the request, I hope you like the headcanons. They turned out to be more like a story, I hope that's fine ^^
Fullmetal Alchemist Envy Headcanons: Envy x reader who took him in when he was in his little worm form
In these headcanons, Envy managed to escape from Mustang, Riza and Ed and he ended up alone on the streets of Amestris before he could return to Father, because of his lack of energy left.
I think when reader found him and took him in, he would be so tired and dizzy that he wouldn't really understand what is happening. All he can remember is a human reaching towards him and the warm touch of their palm.
After resting for a while he would regain consiousness and look around reader's house, observing their furniture and possesions, trying to understand where he is. Looking at their dining table he would see them and recognise them as the person who picked him up and carried him somewhere earlier. That's when it would all come together and he would realise that he is in a human house and has been taken in.
He would definitely know what condition he is in and that considering the absence of any philosopher's stones to help him regain his energy, he would stay quiet and observe their actions carefully.
When he notices reader holding a book and reading carefully through it, as if they are looking for something, and notices that it is a book about lizards and how they live, he would get the idea of pretending to be a lizard until he can find a way to regain his powers.
As time passes, he would quickly notice how careing reader is and how much they care about him. He would slowly start to trust them more and more, letting them feed him and even pet him. He would start feeling lonely whenever they are out and his eyes would sparkle with excitement anytime they come back to him.
At some point, probably after about a month passes and he notices that he doesn't entirely hate humans, specifically reader, now thinging of them as his human, he would decide to reveal himself. As to his plan of running away as soon as possible, looks like it will have to wait for a bit. This human just awoke his interest, he can't just leave.
One time, seeming out of the blue for reader, but completely planned by Envy, the little lizard would suddenly speak.
" Listen here, human. I am not a pet lizard, I am homunculus, so you should definitely stop wasting your time reading all those books, wondering how to take care of me properly. If you wanna know so bad, I might just tell you. If you ask nicely of course."
Seemingly not careing about reader's shocked expression and lack of ability to say a word from suprise, Envy would use all that's left in him to transform into his prefered form. He would have to take a seat on a nearby chair from exhaustion, but would look up at reader with a slight smirk, proud of how mesmerized they look from seeing his shape-shifting abilities.
"What? You didn't notice that whole time that I was homunculus? My oroboros tattoo was all out there for you to see and you just tought it's a spot? You're so oblivious..So, what do you think? I'm quite--"
For Envy's suprise, reader cuts him off and lifts up his chin for them to observe his features, still not really understanding what happened. They take a look at his eyes, nose, lips, making him feel more and more nervous. All of a sudden his cheeks get pink and he looks away, obviously embarresed.
"What? What's so interesting?...Stupid human.."
" You're quite handsome. So you are.. a homunculus? I think I have heard about them before, alchemists say that homunculi are artificial humans. But I definitely didn't imagine one to look so..nice."
After hearing reader's unexpected words, Envy would consider staying with them for a while, and then leaving, but the tought of ending their life doesn't seem to be of his liking, so he decides to put aside his departure until he feels satisfied enough with their presense. He won't think of it for a while.
As time goes by though, he would realise he doesn't really want to leave. At all. Everyone probably thinks he is dead anyways, so why not spend more time here? On top of all, he has his own human now.
He would get addicted to reader's care and would love feeling like a royalty, being served food, treated pretty much as a diety and being the center of reader's attention everytime he decides to tell them about all of his abilities and the pros of being homunculus.
I think he would think of various ways to get to a stone so that he can regain his abilities. Staying with reader and talking to them is quite interesting and new to him, but he would definitely miss being able to use his full abilities. If he manages to return them, the first thing he would do would be to show off to reader, taking in their compliments and watching them stand in awe as he shape-shifts into all kinds of things.
Sooner of later I think he would totaly forget about all the stuff he used to be interested in doing before. He is curious as to how living with his human would be like and in what new ways he would use his abilities.

Antimony represents the wild and animalistic parts of human nature~
an Edward Elric x reader fanfiction.
~08~
Trigger Warning: De@th. A/N: I cried writing this chapter, so be warned.
The rain had finally stopped, leaving behind a fresh scent of damp earth as sunshine peeked through the retreating clouds. Winry, Edward, Alphonse, and Y/N emerged from Dominic's shop, their hearts still buzzing from the night before. The group gathered their things, and the sound of water droplets trickling from the leaves filled the air as they made their way down the mountain path, the sun glinting off small puddles along the way. Winry animatedly discussed the future projects she had in mind at her apprenticeship, her eyes sparkling with ideas as she laughed with Y/N. Edward, with his trademark scowl, chimed in occasionally, playfully arguing about the practicality of Winry's designs. Alphonse, his gentle presence providing a calm to the spirited discussions, smiled and added his thoughts, emphasizing how exciting it all was. As they meandered down the winding path. The atmosphere felt charged with promise, each step a journey through both the physical and metaphorical landscapes of their lives. Laughter echoed around them, blending with whispers of nature as they recounted past adventures, each story igniting new moments of joy. Soon, they reached a bend in the path where an overlook revealed the valley below. All four friends paused to take in the view, the sprawling landscape painted with the remnants of rain. The world unfurled before them like an artist’s canvas, displaying a masterpiece of life and color, the hustle and bustle of rush valley chugging away as usual.
The clattering of metal and the whirring of automail filled the air as Winry Rockbell navigated through the throng of townsfolk, followed by her friends. Her engineering eyes sparkled with excitement, the vibrant atmosphere impossible to ignore. She was on her way to meet Garfiel, a friendly mechanic referred to her by Dominic, he was known for his impressive skill with machines. As they reached the town center, the sun beamed down, illuminating an array of colorful stalls offering mechanical parts, shining automail accessories, and delicious street food. Winry paused, taking in the scene, her heart thumping with anticipation. A wedding of chaos and order unfolded before her eyes; mechanics were joyfully arguing over gear measurements while grandmothers argued over the price of bolts. The group stepped into Garfiel's shop for the first time, the tinkling of the brass bell overhead announcing their arrival. The shop was cozy, filled with gadgets and tools, an abundance of machinery delicately arranged on every surface. Winry’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she ran her fingers over the various instruments, each one sparking ideas for new automail designs. Beside her, Edward, with his characteristic impatience, shuffled through the aisles, looking for something he couldn’t quite express. Al, with his imposing armor, marveled at the intricate inventions, his voice echoing in the small space as he voiced his admiration.
“Look at this!” Edward exclaimed, holding up a peculiar item he found tucked in a corner—a small, rusted gear that seemed to have a story of its own. Winry's enthusiasm was infectious as she rushed over, her hands gentle as she inspected it closely, her brow furrowed in concentration. Al simply nodded, quietly content to watch them.
“Y/N, you’ve been quiet,” Al finally said, turning to her, his voice soft and welcoming. She stood beside the armoured boy as she processed the sights around her. “You okay?” he asked, inclining his head slightly. The warmth of Al’s presence made her feel at ease, even in a shop brimming with curiosities. She smiled up at him, “Yeah, of course.”
“Welcome!” Garfeil called from the back, a friendly grin lighting up his face as he wiped his hands on a rag “You must be Winry!”. He looked every bit the part of a skilled craftsman, with grease stains streaked across his apron and a hint of an accent in his voice that hinted at a rich history. Winry smiled back, feeling a flutter of admiration at his enthusiasm. As they talked, Garfeil listened intently to her plans and shared his own thoughts about improving the design of automail. Winry felt her excitement grow as he showed her a few of his inventions. They discussed everything from the most efficient materials to the importance of comfort in a prosthetic limb. To Winry’s delight, Garfeil’s ideas resonated deeply with her own, and she found herself losing track of time as their conversation flowed easily back and forth.
After their introductions, Winry led the way, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she navigated through the colorful marketplace, eager to see the latest automail advancements. Y/N walked beside her, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the lively atmosphere. Edward and Alphonse followed closely, their eyes darting around, captivated by the unique creations of the skilled artisans. As they wandered deeper into the market, Winry stopped at a stall displaying intricate automail accessories. She picked up a beautifully crafted arm brace, turning it over in her hands, admiring the craftsmanship. “Look at this, Y/N! The design is both functional and elegant,” she said, beaming. Y/N smiled, captivated by Winry’s passion for her work and the world around her. The brothers, meanwhile, were drawn to a nearby stall filled with various trinkets and oddities. Al was fascinated by a small, animated mechanical bird, while Ed was busy bickering over the price of a brass gear. They paused at a food stall, the mouthwatering scent of grilled meat filling the air. Winry ordered a plateful, her cheeks flushed with excitement. Y/N couldn’t help but chuckle at the sheer joy on her face. As they sat down to eat, Al shared he was definitely going to put this on his list of food to try when he gets his body back.
After a hearty meal, they resumed their exploration, wandering through the maze of stalls that felt like a treasure trove. Laughter and chatter surrounded them, and it felt as if the bustle of the world outside had faded away.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Y/N and Winry Rockbell stood on the platform of Rush Valley's train station, waving goodbye to the Elric brothers. Edward, with his trademark grin and tousled blond hair, gave a cheerful salute while Alphonse, clad in his towering armor, offered a gentle smile that illuminated the dimming light, as they headed off to Dublith to go see their teacher. Y/N’s train pulled into the station not long after, its whistle echoing through the bustling crowd. As the steam billowed from the train, she turned to wave at Winry, who stood nearby, a bright smile on her face. "Come back soon!" Winry called, her voice filled with warmth. Y/N nodded, her heart heavy but full of fond memories. As Y/N stepped aboard the train, the warmth of the evening sun clung to her skin like a memory she wasn’t ready to let go. The rhythmic chugging of the engine mingled with the distant laughter of children playing on the platform, creating a bittersweet symphony that tugged at her heartstrings. She settled into her seat by the window, allowing her gaze to drift back toward Winry, who remained rooted in place, waving until she was nothing more than a tiny figure against the backdrop of Rush Valley.
The train lurched forward, and with each passing moment, Y/N felt the distance grow between her and everything she loved about this place. The hills rolled away like waves receding from shore, and soon they were swallowed by the shadows of twilight. She pressed her forehead against the cool glass, watching as familiar sights blurred into abstract shapes—a reminder that life was always in motion. With each mile that passed beneath her, Y/N felt herself growing more and more tired, the adrenaline of the last 48 hours slowly wearing off. The gentle sway of the carriage mimicked her own heart, still fluttering from the memory of the night before. It was a cool evening when Edward had enveloped her in a hug, their laughter mingling with the whispers of the wind as they sat under the stormy clouds. But now, as shadows stretched across the land and twilight painted everything in shades of indigo and gold, Why was she even thinking about that? It wasn’t the first time they had shared an embrace, so why was it on her mind now? The thought settled heavily in her chest, mingling with fatigue.
As the train rattled toward Central, Y/N found herself staring out the window, a strange sinking feeling in her stomach. Something felt off, and the sense of foreboding only deepened as the city drew closer. Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling. She began looking around suspiciously, it seemed like there was always a thread of danger lurking in the backdrop recently. Had the homunculi followed them to Rush Valley? Were they following her? Y/N's heart raced as she scrutinized the faces around her, searching for any sign of familiarity in the crowd that swayed with the train’s rhythm. She could almost hear the whispers of her fears echoing in her mind—every shadow seemed to flicker with malevolence, every stranger an agent of chaos.
As the train lurched to a stop, Y/N's breath caught in her throat. The bustling noise of Central Station spilled into the carriage like an unwelcome tide, drowning her thoughts in a cacophony of hurried footsteps and distant announcements. She hesitated before stepping onto the platform, her instincts screaming at her to turn back. Shoving her hands deep into the pockets of her coat, she emerged into the throng of commuters. Each face blurred past her—some hurrying to catch connections, others lost in their own worlds.
With each step forward, she recalled snippets of conversations overheard on previous journeys—the whispers about homunculi sightings, rumors that danced dangerously close to reality. Were they truly following her? Or was it simply her sleepy mind deceiving itself. Her heart pounded against her ribcage like a caged bird desperate for escape. She leaned against a pillar in the busy station, just watching, just in case she was followed. as she stood there, cocooned in the jacket, the world around her seemed to blur even more. The cacophony of rushing feet faded into a distant hum. As her heart rate gradually returned to its normal rhythm, she couldn't help but wonder if it had all been a figment of her imagination. With a deep breath, she stood up straight and made her way towards the exit, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her. At that moment, she realized that she needed to give herself an early night. As walked down the stairs, the events of the day replayed in her mind. She promised herself to listen to her body more and not ignore the signs of stress and anxiety. Taking a hot bath and getting a good night's sleep sounded like the perfect remedy for her overwhelmed mind.
Y/N walked home through the dimly lit streets of Central, the cool night air brushing against her skin. The sounds of the bustling city were quieting down, leaving only the soft echo of distant footsteps and the rustling of leaves. Streetlamps flickered above, casting a warm glow on the cobblestone pathway. Y/N hugged her coat closer, feeling the chill of the night deepen. Y/N's thoughts drifted like the clouds above, as she started to walk past central command a crow caught her attention, its caw jarring against the quiet of the night. Y/N paused, her breath visible in the crisp air as she watched the crow flap its wings and take flight, a shadow against the moonlit sky. It circled above before landing on a nearby lamppost, its beady eyes glinting with an otherworldly intelligence. Something about the bird felt significant. With a flick of its head, the crow seemed to beckon her closer. Intrigued, Y/N took a hesitant step forward, her curiosity battling with an instinctual wariness. The world around her faded into a hush; even the distant hum of traffic seemed to hold its breath. The crow cawed again, this time more insistent. Y/N walked towards the bird, as she got closer, it flew off leaving her in almost silence. A nearby phone box was off the hook, its dial tone painfully loud. Compelled by a force she couldn’t quite understand, she followed the noise, shadows danced playfully along cobblestones slick with dew. Each step felt heavier than the last.
As Y/N approached the phone box, the air grew thick. She saw a man's legs, as if someone was sitting on the floor of the box, but they were sitting in a dark puddle. Has someone fallen ill? She rushed over to help the unknown man. “A military uniform?” she questioned aloud. Y/N was now standing in front of the phone box, her blood ran cold. “Uncle Maes!” She shouted, crouched, pawing at his jacket in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, wherever it was coming from.Y/N's hands trembled as she pressed against her uncle's jacket, the fabric slick with dark crimson. Panic surged through her veins like wildfire. "Stay with me, Uncle Maes!" she pleaded, tears falling, her voice breaking as she searched his face for any sign of consciousness. His usually vibrant eyes were now closed, shadowed beneath furrowed brows that hinted at pain. Y/N's heart raced as she frantically assessed the situation. The world around her faded into a blur, the only sound cutting through the fog of her thoughts was the dial tone of the phone hanging above them. She pressed harder against his jacket, feeling the warmth of his blood seep through her fingers, though his body was cold.
"Please, please," she whispered, desperation threading through each word. Her mind raced back to all the stories he had told her—tales of bravery and heroism in distant lands, adventures that now felt like cruel mockeries in the face of this grim reality. She could almost hear his laughter echoing in her ears, a sound that seemed impossibly far away now.
With trembling hands, Y/N stood, now covered in Hughes’ blood, she put the phone back on its hook and lifted it again. From her pocket she fished out a coin. It slipped through her fingers once, then twice before she caught it again; time was slipping away just like that coin. Her vision blurred as tears pooled in her eyes. "Come on!" she urged herself silently, tapping furiously at the keypad.
“Please answer!” The ringing tone echoed ominously against the stillness enveloping them. Each ring felt like a hammer striking against the walls of her resolve.
“Hello, Central Command,” the operator answered.
“Please connect me to Colonel Roy Mustang! It's an emergency!” Y/N cried down the phone, her chest tight. She gave the operator her emergency military code phase, and waited. “Hold on, please,” the operator replied, her voice steady but distant. Y/N could hear the faint rustling of papers and the tapping of keys as she was put on hold. Time stretched in that moment, each second an eternity filled with dread. The weight of Hughes’ lifeless body pressed heavily on her mind, drowning out any hope she had left.
“Y/N?” The familiar voice cut through the fog of despair like a beacon. “What’s going on?”
She could barely choke out the words, her breath hitching as she struggled to find her voice. “Dad, it’s… it’s Uncle Maes. He’s—” Her throat tightened, making it hard to breathe, let alone speak. “He’s dead! They… they killed him!” The confession spilled out like an open wound, raw and bleeding.
There was a moment of silence on the other end that felt like a dagger twisting in her gut. “What? Y/N, where are you?” Roy’s tone shifted instantly from confusion to urgency.
“Phone box, outside” she managed to say, looking down at Hughes’ body sprawled against the confinements of the booth below her feet, his eyes staring blankly at the sky above. It felt surreal, as if she were watching a scene unfold from behind a glass wall.
“Stay where you are, Y/N. I’m coming,” Roy’s voice crackled through the line, filled with authority and concern.
The world around her faded, the cacophony of the city reduced to a dull roar, as if she were submerged in water. The chilling reality of her words echoed in her mind, drowning out everything else. She could still see Hughes’ face—his warm smile that had always been a beacon of light in their lives now frozen in an expression of disbelief. She crouched back down to him, praying, begging for this to be a cruel nightmare, trying to shake him awake, her tears falling from her face onto his stained uniform. Her shaking slowed, reality taking hold, her cries growing stronger, louder, her blood-stained hands holding onto his jacket for dear life.
The five minutes it took Roy and his team to make it outside, felt like hours to Y/N, she stayed holding onto Maes lifeless body.
As the weight of her grief anchored her to the ground, Y/N felt a gentle hand on her shoulder. It was Roy, his expression a mix of sorrow and determination, the flicker of hope dimming in his eyes. “Y/N,” he whispered, his voice barely above a breath, “You need to let go.”
But she couldn’t move. The world around her blurred into an indistinct haze; all that existed was Maes—his laughter echoing in her mind like a haunting melody, the warmth of his friendship now turned cold. She wanted to scream, to shatter the silence that enveloped them, but all that escaped her lips was a choked sob.
“Please,” Roy implored. The colonel had to pry his daughter from the corpse of his dearest friend. He pulled the girl into his arms and away from the phone booth, mirroring the way he did 8 years ago, when she discovered her mother's body. They sat on the curb across from the booth as more military officers turned up. She just stayed crying into her father’s jacket, a shell of her usual happy self.
Roy held Y/N tightly, feeling her small frame tremble against him, the weight of grief pressing down like an unyielding fog. Around them, the world continued to spin—officers moved with purpose, their voices a distant murmur that faded into the background. He wished he could shield her from it all, from the reality that had clawed its way into their lives once more.
"Y/N," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion, "I need you to listen to me." But she was lost in a chasm of despair, the echoes of Maes's laughter fading into silence. Her fingers twisted and turned in his jacket as if seeking some anchor in this storm of sorrow. He gently brushed Y/N's hair back from her face, trying to catch her eye. “We’ll get through this,” he said with a conviction he didn’t fully feel. “You’re not alone.” But even as he spoke those words meant to comfort her, doubt gnawed at him like a relentless tide.
Just then, a young officer approached them cautiously. “Colonel Mustang,” he began hesitantly, glancing at Y/N before continuing. “We need her statement about what happened.”
Roy shook his head slightly. “Not now.” His voice was firm yet gentle—a protective barrier against further intrusion. The officer nodded understandingly but lingered for a moment longer before stepping back into the fray.

||The Ties That Bind|| Prologue
Summary: He taught her its better to live through a day then fight through it. She taught him to hold on to hope and believed in him when he felt hollow and empty. Just like his armor. Law of Equivalent Exchange. They both exchanged something of equal value. Yet neither of them realized that what they had given the other was something one could never put a price on.
Pairing: Alphonse Elric x Willow Hawkeye(OC)
Rating || Genres || Warnings: T. Romance. Adventure. Family.
A/N: I’ve had this sitting in my drafts for so long that I thought I should finally post it so here it is I guess.
This was certainly not how Berthold Hawkeye had envisioned meeting his niece for the first time. Truth be told, he had never brought himself around to envision it seeing as his sister, Felicity, was not on speaking terms with him.
Not after the death of her best friend and the mother of his daughter, Victoria.
Felicity Hawkeye and Victoria Berkley had been inseparable since the day they met. Through thick and thin they held on to one another. And with the amount of times Victoria would come over to their house, and the times Berthold would be forced to walk her home with his sister after dark, it didn't come as a surprise when he started to fall in love with the golden haired girl. Victoria too had begun to develop a certain affection for the secluded young boy who, despite his cold and rude exterior, would dote on his younger sister and show kindness in the most surprising of ways especially when he would use Alchemy to help the townspeople.
It took quite a long time for them to admit their feelings for one another, and it took a huge amount of effort from Felicity who had recognized the feelings well before either of them had and had made it her mission to bring them together. When asked why she would go to such lengths she had simply shrugged and replied, they make each other happy.
And they had been. Victoria had changed him for the better and she had loved him before that change. When they were blessed with a little baby girl, with hair as bright as sunshine, Berthold couldn't believe how lucky he was.
But then a dark cloud overshadowed their happiness. And it all began with Victoria fainting in the middle of the day for no reason.
The doctors tried everything they could. But the sickness spread, till one day, with a peaceful smile on her face Victoria Hawkeye died with her husband, daughter and best friend at her side.
The man sighed as the sadness and ache of losing his beloved wife settled into his heart. Nearly ten years had passed, yet he still missed her. Grieved for her. Every single day. It was that grief that made him throw himself into his research for Flame Alchemy. It distracted him from the emptiness that was inside him. Made him forget about everything and everyone else. His sister had left a week after Victoria was buried. And then it had been just him and Riza.
A daughter he hardly paid any attention to.
Why?
Because looking at her, he was reminded of the wife that had left him.
Left them.
And his heart couldn't take it.
So when he received the news that his sister and husband had died in an Ishvalan attack, leaving behind a daughter who was barely a few months old, he had decided to take her in his home. Perhaps Riza would not be so lonely with a little sister to play with. Sure his apprentice was living with them, but the man doubted the boy had anything better to do other than to study.
Besides, the Master had told his Apprentice the day he started that there was to be minimum interaction between him and his daughter.
Little did he know the seeds of friendship had already been sown between the two lonely children.
Berthold glanced down at the birth certificate, barely glancing at the name before shifting his gaze on the date of birth. 12th February 1901. Only three months old then. How young to have lost both parents in a single night.
"Riza, please see me in my study."
The fourteen year old nearly dropped the cup she had been washing, her eyes wide as she turned to glance at her father. But he had already disappeared and judging by the slam that followed, he had gone into his study.
Something was wrong.
Her father almost never asked her to see her in his study. The last time that had happened was when he had decided to take on Roy Mustang as his apprentice. Quickly drying her hands the girl walked out of the kitchen and down the corridor, pausing when she saw Roy standing outside the door as well. He cast her a confused look as she joined him, to which she only shrugged. Roy knocked lightly.
"Enter."
The door squeaked as it was pushed open by the sixteen year old boy. Roy paused at the threshold to let Riza walk through first. The girl gave him a small smile before entering the study, Roy closing the door after him.
Her father was standing with his back to them, looking out of the only window in the room. There was nothing out of the ordinary in his study though. The books were in haphazard piles, papers were trailing off various tables with alchemy circles and scribbles drawn in various sizes. The only thing out of place was a basket sitting on top of his desk.
"It would seem that we will be having a new person joining us." He spoke, still looking out of the window.
Roy glanced at Riza, their confused expressions mirrored one another. There was a beat of silence, before it was broken by a soft cooing sound coming from the desk, along with a chubby hand being waved from within the confines of the basket.
A baby!
Without a second thought Riza strode forward pulling the basket towards her to peer inside. Sure enough a baby lay swaddled in blankets of a pale pink, indicating to her gender. The baby stared up quizzically at the new face, just as Riza stared back.
"She is your cousin. Daughter of your Aunt Felicity. My sister." The man explained, the heaviness of his tone making his daughter glance up at him.
"Her parents died in an Ishvalan attack. And I adopted her out of the duty I have to my sister." The man explained. Roy kept his distance, watching everything carefully. This was a family matter and he would not interfere. Another beat of silence.
"Whats her name?" Riza spoke softly, her eyes training back to the baby who was still looking at her. With a jolt Riza realized why her eyes looked so familiar. They were the exact color and shape of her own eyes. The tuft of light brown hair was unlike her own blonde locks, but there was no mistaking those eyes.
"Willow Hawkeye." The man responded, now turning around to watch his daughter and niece meet for the first time.
Tentatively Riza reached out to the small hand that was reaching for her, small coos echoing in the otherwise silent room. Tiny fingers grasped her own, the grip firm. The baby girl seemed to find this amusing because she gave Riza a gummy smile.
"Willow." The girl whispered, carefully lifting the baby out of the basket and after a second of fumbling was holding her in the crook of her arm, supporting her head and keeping a firm grip on her small body. Instantly the baby snuggled closer, seeking out the warmth her body provided.
"She is family Riza. And since I have taken an apprentice to teach, it will be up to you to care for her." Perhaps they would be able to form a bond strong enough to withstand anything. There may be a big age gap between them, but with the way they seem to have taken to each other, the old Alchemist knew these two would stand by one another through thick and thin.
The young blonde nodded. "Yes, Father." With that, she placed Willow back into the basket, and carefully picking it up in both arms walked out of the room.
"Roy!" The man barked, sensing his apprentice was about to follow after his daughter. The young by winced at his tone.
"Yes Master?" The respect was ever present in his tone as he turned to the man.
"See that you don't let helping my daughter with my niece get in the way of your studies."
Roy stared, eyes wide. How had he known….
"Leave."
The young boy did not need to be told twice. With a backwards glance he was out of the study, the door closing behind him. Without a second thought he raced off to find Riza and the newest member of the Hawkeye family.
Little Willow Hawkeye.

I've seen many posts about the way Riza and Roy address each other, and I wanted to add my 5 cents as someone who is learning Japanese and reading the Japanese manga as part of that process (it's been fun and informative!).
There are two particular scenes I want to discuss in this post:
The first scene is their conversation under the tunnel on the Promised Day.
貴方は そちらに 堕ちてはいけない・・・!
You must not fall into that…
If you've been around here for any amount of time you probably know that Riza breaks protocol in this scene and calls Roy "貴方" (anata, you). You might also know that in Japanese people don't usually address each other as “you”, preferring to use someone's name and/or title to address them. So Riza calling Roy “anata” would sound too rude or too intimate (as this is what a wife might call her husband).
HOWEVER, anime and manga don’t use conventional Japanese. Any Japanese person will be quick to tell you that anime’s Japanese is not proper. It's often exaggerated for comedic or creative purposes. This phenomenon was once also common in English comics.
Think of all the cringe lines in the old Batman TV shows and comics. I even remember reading a note from Stan Lee in a 1960s Ironman comic saying: “We know people don't talk like this in real life”. So yeah…
The use of the many forms of “you” is common in anime/manga even if it's not proper Japanese. Fullmetal Alchemist is no exception to this.
Here is Riza calling Rebecca anata:
And Winry:
And even Barry (lol):
Riza addressing Roy as “anata” is not exactly special or a sign of them being close to each other. That's just how she normally addresses people.
Well kind of…
FMA does follow its own internal formality logic. The way the members of the military address each other is very well defined. Riza not calling Roy — a superior officer — by his official title or by “Sir” IS breaking protocol. It's not how she usually addresses him, nor how she should be addressing him.
The reason why she does this here — to my still in-training Japanese eye — is not because of closeness, or kinship, or whatever. I read this as a plea from Riza — not Lieutenant Hawkeye — to Roy — not Colonel Mustang.
Arakawa actually goes out of her way to preserve a sense of distance and propriety between them by using the kanji form of "anata" (貴方) — which can be read as more formal or stiff — instead of the commonly used kana form (あなた). This is the only instance where we see the kanji form in Riza's speech (see Rebecca, Winry, and Barry above), so its use here is VERY intentional. To me this is Arakawa's way of showing the reader (not to Roy because he will hear "anata" regardless of how it's written) that even though Riza is using an improper, somewhat familiar, way to address him, she is still trying to be proper and show reverence to him as her superior officer.
In a sense this line is actually the opposite of Riza showing a sense of closeness to Roy. What it does show is just how much she looks up to him, and how serious she takes both of their roles.
貴方はそちらに 堕ちてはいけない・・・!
You must not fall into that…
Is both an order and a plea to the man that carries her and her father's dream.
The second scene I want to discuss is the one time Roy calls Riza by her first name.
リザ!!
Riza!!
Again, this might look somewhat weird or overly familiar. Calling someone by first name without any honorifics is usually a no, no in Japanese.
HOWEVER, Amestris is not Japan. Like I said, FMA follows its own formality system, which seems to align more closely with what you would expect in an Anglo society than in a Japanese one. The use of honorifics is not overly common, especially for honorifics like “chan” which may be the one expected from Roy in this scene.
In FMA “Kun” and “Chan” are pretty much exclusively reserved for children. And its use seems to be more of a form of endearment than a social protocol. For example, Riza and Fuery both use "Kun" for Ed and Al, but the rest of team Mustang does not.
Winry using “chan” with Elicia.
Roy knows Riza's name, she's not a small child, they're of a similar social status, and she's not in a position of authority. There's no reason why he should call her anything but Riza.
This btw doesn't indicate any closeness between them. Just like someone calling you by first name wouldn't necessarily indicate any closeness in an English-speaking country.
Here are some examples of people calling each other by first name right after meeting:
Ed calls Rose by first name.
Winry calls Paninya by first name right after introducing themselves.
Al calls Ling by first name shortly after meeting each other.
More interesting than Roy calling Riza by first name, is Riza calling Roy “Mr Mustang” in return.
Riza calls Roy "マスタングさん" (Mr Mustang).
“San” (Mr/Mrs/Miss) is by far the most common honorific used in FMA, just like “Mr” would be in English. But regular people don't usually go calling each other “Mr last name”, especially not outside of a formal environment like school or work. In FMA “San” is mainly used for older people you're not very close to (The Elric brothers call many of the adults as "Mr Last name"), and for people with authority (Knox calls Roy “Mr Mustang” despite Roy being significantly younger).
The combination of first name (Roy to Riza) plus Mr last name (Riza to Roy) tells us that the relationship between Roy and Riza is NOT that of equals. In Riza's eyes Roy is in a position that warrants the use of “San”. And it makes sense, he's older, he's a Warrant Officer, and judging by Roy's questions about her family, and her “Do you remember me?” during the war, they're not too familiar with each other at this point.
Yeah… the way Roy and Riza address each other throughout the series is distant and proper of their station and rank. In terms of Roy's relationships the way Roy and Hughes, Chris and Roy, and even Knox and Roy, address each other is way more unusual than the way Riza and Roy do (I could make a follow up post about this if anyone is interested).
As a Royai fan I must say seeing this made me a bit sad. I can only wish and imagine a future where these two can finally address each other on equal footing and with the closeness their devotion to each other deserves.

what is a big bang?
a big bang is a fan-led event in which writers and artists collaborate together to create long-form content. each writer gets a selection of artists drawing for their story, and a beta-reader if they choose. this event gives creatives a chance to bring their ideas to life in the form of creative teams. ever had a nagging idea for something long or intricate? now you’ve got the chance :)
as this is a royai big bang, the only conditions are that the content created is focused on roy mustang and riza hawkeye – platonic, romantic, or otherwise!
the plan is to not only foster the creation of long-form content specifically for royai, but to create some beautiful epubs of these fics as well as the anthology. i want everyone to feel proud of what they’ve created!
the current plan is to have 5 big bang writers, and 20 anthology writers, and about 30 to 40 artists. collectively this group will create over 600,000 words of royai fanfic, and approximately 120 different pieces of fanart.
a big bang, indeed.

What do readers think I'm going to do to deal with Ishbal? (Note, the stories have already been written, and this won't affect anything, I'm just curious)

hey so how do you think Edward, Alphonse and roy would deal with having a crush and they’ve known each other for a good month and crush at some point is like “Oh. I like you. I know your busy, but when you’re not busy, would you like to go on a date with me? We can also just be friends too if that’s a no”. If they ask when’d this crush start happening, crush is like “=\\\) Since we first talked”?
Hi hi, thank you so much for the request. Since this is about several people I take a bit longer than usual, sorry. I hope I did well and you like it, I kind of rushed.
Fullmetal Alchemist Headcanons: Roy, Alphonse and Edward x reader who has a crush on them and decides to finally confess.
Roy Mustang
So, we all know him, he has always been loved by the ladies and he knows it. He knows he is good looking and he definitely isn't new to flirting too. So he has flirted with reader several times and automatically tought that is it only natural for them to fall for him. It was no suprise.
Mistakes politeness for shyness. Everytime reader worries about him before he goes on a mission he takes it personally and decides that it is because reader is falling for him.
"They can't get me out of thier mind."
If reader calls him to meet regularly he would assume they do that only with him and therefore think that they want to be by his side all the time.
When they confess he flashes them a sly smirk and proudly says: "I must say, it is no surprise to me that you have a crush on me, reader. I saw you glancing at me, you are always by my side and act so shy around me. But I do find it adorable, so I will go out with you when I have the time, yes."
Edward Elric
Oblivious.
The complete oppisode of Roy, he would mistake any potential signs reader gives him that have taken a liking to him, as them just being friendly and careing.
Since Alphone is always by his side I think he would catch up quicker and hint him that reader might be potentially having feelings for him. He would even ask them strsight up if he has the chance, but would never tell Edward. They have to tell him themselves.
Once again though, Ed has no idea what Al is talking about.
"You think they like me?..Yeah I also don't think they hate me. I am pretty good at making new friends these days right? You think they could help us find a clue to the philosophers stone?"
Like a scientist consumed by his work he would have to be told stright up, loudly and clearly by reader themselves or he would not get the message at all.
When reader does confess though, he is flustered. If they do it in the middle of a conversation he would be mind blank and forget what they were talking about.
"You..like me romantically?.. I think I need a minute to think about this..You want to go out on a..a date? Well..I definitely..wouldn't mind that..we should go out, mhm.."
Cannot look them in the eye and his cheek burn the whole time he speaks. Tries to think rationally and not make it a big deal but in reality he won't think about the stone for a good day or more after that confession.
Alphonse Elric
Get's it immideatly when he catches reader looking at him for longer than usual and smiling at him differently than at other people. Even though is he catches them looking at him he would first think that there is something on his face.
He is a cutie and would have a hard time being around them, he would suddenly become shy and start daydreaming about them, wondering if he is right that they have feelings.
I think he would quiestion his own feelings but wouldn't think about them too much. If he likes them why not go out with them?
" You'd like to go on a date with me? Okay, why don't we just go now? I walked past a nice cafe earlier. Let's go!"

ANTIMONY
Antimony represents the wild and animalistic parts of human nature~
an Edward Elric x reader fanfiction.
~Prologue~
In the lively city of Central, where the sound of metal clashing and the buzz of alchemy could be heard everywhere, a young girl named Y/N Mustang found herself on the brink of a new beginning. Despite being only fourteen years old, she carried the weight of her father's reputation as the Flame Alchemist and the memory of her late mother, who had always hoped Y/N would choose a different path than becoming a State Alchemist. It had been four years since her mother's passing, leaving behind a void that seemed to grow larger each day. Y/N's mother had been her guiding light, a source of warmth and wisdom, and her absence left a noticeable emptiness in the young girl's heart.
Despite her mother's reservations, fate had woven a different tapestry for Y/N. The allure of alchemy had beckoned to her, whispering promises of power and purpose. With a resolute spirit, she had embraced the path of a State Alchemist, determined to carve her own destiny amidst the swirling currents of her father's world. Her chosen field of expertise lay in the enigmatic realm of water alchemy, where the fluidity of her craft mirrored the depths of her own emotions. Through the ebb and flow of her transmutations, Y/N sought to weave a legacy that honoured both her parents, a testament to her resilience and unwavering spirit.
In the bustling streets of Central, Y/N discovered comfort in the presence of her loyal friends, Edward and Alphonse Elric. Their bond went beyond mere friendship, strengthened by their shared goals and unwavering determination. Together, they faced the challenges of their intertwined fates, each carrying their own burdens and dreams. Y/N connected with Edward's fiery determination, reflecting her own, while Alphonse's calm wisdom brought peace to her restless spirit. As they pursued truth and redemption together, they created a strong bond that surpassed the chaos of their world.
As Y/N delved deeper into the enigmatic world of alchemy, she grappled with the weight of her newfound responsibilities and the echoes of her mother's unspoken wishes. The shadows of doubt and longing danced at the periphery of her consciousness, threading a delicate tapestry of hope and uncertainty. Yet, amidst the swirling tempest of her emotions, a flicker of hope burned bright within her. It was a beacon that illuminated the path ahead, a testament to her resilience and unyielding spirit. With each fluid transmutation and every step she took alongside her steadfast companions, Y/N embraced the promise of a new dawn, where the waters of her destiny flowed with untold possibilities.
As Y/N ventured further into the mysterious realm of alchemy, she struggled with the burden of her newfound duties and the whispers of her mother's unspoken desires. Doubt and yearning lingered on the edge of her mind, weaving a fragile web of optimism and doubt. However, in the midst of her swirling emotions, a glimmer of hope shone brightly within her. It served as a guiding light, showing her the way forward and proving her strength and determination. With each seamless transformation and every stride she took with her loyal friends, Y/N embraced the potential of a fresh start, where her fate held endless opportunities.

A question for potential readers of my next long fic :
Oh I feel kinda weird asking that, like. Potential readers 😅 kinda presumptuous 😅. Anyway, if you might be interested:
I'm thinking of starting to post my Royai CoS related WWI AU (1923) around Christmas, (it's about the lives of our world's alternate Roy and Riza) and for now this fic contains smut.
While I do think smut informs the story and characters and I write it as such, I'm thinking not everyone is into that, so I was wondering if I should separate these parts (there aren't that many of them) and post them separately, only for people who might be interested.
That'd switch the story from Explicit to Mature, because this fic is about war and it's aftermath on places and on people, and not only my smut is explicit, you know.

||I Will Always Choose You||
Summary: As a soldier you had expected to find yourself in dangerous situations. But trapped in the claws of a Homunculous who went by Lust and watching the man you love try to save you was on a whole other level.
Pairing: Roy Mustang x Reader
Rating || Genres || Warnings: T. Romance. Action. Angst. A bit of mention of injury so be prepared!
A/N: Sorry its late but I hope you like this! @smallartist08
Roy Mustang was not in love.
He had never been in love, and there was no possibility of him falling in love in the future.
Not when he had an entire country to think of. Not when he had to help make Amestris a country he would be proud to call home. Not when he had so many people to look after. His entire team. His best friend’s wife and daughter. The Elric brothers. Madam Christmas and the girls.
Most all of them were in constant danger, one way or the other. There was no time for him to be in love when he had to make sure he knew of their every step. Make sure they stayed safe.
Or as safe as the Elric brothers could be.
Those two boys got in so much trouble sometimes, he was sure they had targets painted on their backs.
But most of all?
Roy Mustang did not deserve love. Not after the bloodshed he had carried out as the Flame Alchemist. Not after all the innocent Ishvalans he had killed when he had been ordered to.
He was ashamed of his actions, and deeply regretful that he had not stood up to those in authority back then. He may spend his whole life trying to atone for all his sins. Which is why something as pure as love could never be in his life.
Not with how tainted his soul was.
How broken.
But............the only problem about not falling in love?
Was that he was already in love.
With you.
Just like Riza and Maes, you had been beside Roy every step of the way.
You had been with him when he was stationed to the front lines. As a weapon’s specialist, and a liaison between the superiors and the alchemists, you had been in-charge of all the weapons that came your way.
Mechanical and human.
And all the State Alchemists were seen as nothing more then weapons at that time.
You were to make sure that each piece of weapon stayed in shape, and you were aware of every alchemist and where they were stationed, what they were capable of, and how far they could go with the abilities.
As one of the best sharpshooters, Riza would often be found in your company. Not only because you were the only one she trusted with making sure her weapon was in working order, but also because there were so few women on the front lines.
It was nice having another woman around, someone the both of you could trust to watch each other’s back.
You had been walking around when you had first heard Roy. He was speaking to Maes, telling him of the guilt he felt for using his abilities to kill so many. All of this was spoken in confidant, and you were not meant to have heard it.
But you did.
And your heart went out to the poor man.
You had seen so many soldiers die. So many lives wasted.
And for what?
For a war that had started because the Ishavalan’s had revolted against the people who ruled them. Later you would come to know the true reason for the war, but even then, it didn’t sit right with you.
Riza had been with you, and when Roy and Maes had seen you standing there, she had reassured them, saying you would not breath a single word of it to anyone.
Although the next time Roy was given an assignment, it had no killing involved and only a few patrols. He had been confused at first, and after a little detective work on Maes’s part, he was told that you were responsible for it. While writing your weekly reports you had managed to surreptitiously add a few points that would make it seem that the areas Roy would be stationed at were in dire need of a cleansing.
Of course, that was a lie.
Leaving Roy rather impressed with your clever wording, and quick thinking. He voiced it to you out loud, but what he didn’t say, at least not in so many words, was that he was sure that you had done so out of the kindness of your heart.
He had known of you long before you knew him. At least you were are of his existence, and that he was the Flame Alchemist. That was as far as your knowledge of him went until that fateful and unintentional run-in while he had been speaking to Maes. Roy Mustang knew exactly who you were and what you were there to do.
He had seen you, a few days after your arrival. You were crouching down next to a dying Ishvalan, offering him some water. And you had stayed there, held his hand and spoke to him.
Most soldiers would’ve simply walked by the dying man. But not you. No, you stayed with him until he died. And when he did, you cried.
You sat there crying in the shadows for a good long while, until your tears had dried and you had composed yourself enough to walk back to your post. And Roy had watched you, a piece of his broken heart mending at the reassurance of your simple act of staying with a dying man.
That there was still kindness in this cruel world.
————————–
Your life had never been easy.
For one you were related to the esteemed Armstrong family. A cousin of the family. You had quite the legacy to live up to.
Your father had been a decorated army officer until his death in the Ishvalan War. You had been expected to walk in his footsteps. And as his only child, there was a lot of pressure on you. And given the fact that you were a girl, you had to work twice as hard. It didn’t help that your father made you aware of your gender every moment of everyday. And not in the most positive of ways.
You could never be an Alchemist like your cousin Alex, you had no desire to become a weapon like him. And you could never be as ruthless and heartless as your cousin Olivier. Even she had once stated that if you were to ever loose the kindness that radiated from your very being, you would loose part of yourself.
So you had decided to forge a path that worked for you. And though you had to hide your real nature while in the army working at the front lines, you had been lucky enough to find people you could be yourself around.
People you trusted had your back no matter what would happen.
After the war, you were personally asked by Flame Alchemist Roy Mustang to work with him. He had said he needed a person who could talk their way out of a situation without having a single shot fired. Translation: He needed someone who could speak to those superior them him without pissing them off. And once you were made aware that Riza would be a part of that Unit as well, you had agreed.
And while that was your initial reason for joining Mustang’s Unit, it began to change over the years as you got to know the rest of your Team.
Riza Hawkeye, your first true friend in the military. You had both shared your worries with one another, your hopes for the future. Talks that had brought the both of you all that much closer to one another. Close enough that you considered one another sisters.
Kain Fuery, the little brother you had always wanted, and since your own mother had died giving birth to a sibling who had never had the chance to draw breath, you saw Kain as your second chance. And given how you were almost always working on the radio, taking orders, sending messages and keeping updates on the latest going-ons in the military, he was always by your side to help however he could.
Vato Falman was your go to person when you needed to get a fact checked about history. He knew everything, and sometimes you would share your information with him to see if he knew anything about it. Not to mention the fact that the both of you would carry out long historical debates and discussions that you both thoroughly enjoyed, and ones that put the rest of your Team to sleep.
Jean Havoc had tried to flirt with you when he had first met you. But had backed off when you had given him a glare Olivier had helped you to perfect years ago. He was still a little afraid of you, but you both got along now. Enough that he would tell you all about his dating life, which you would critique him for quite viciously, much to the amusement of the rest of the Team.
Heymans Breda and you were partners in stealth. The both of you knew everything about everyone’s business. At least everyone who were important. But sometimes the insignificant tidbits the both of you shared did help once in awhile.
And finally there was Roy Mustang.
Your superior. The one who had brought you to be a part of his Team. He must’ve seen something in you that had him bring you in. Then again, he had seen something in all of them. And while you knew you were a valuable asset considering your way to talk yourself out of trouble as efficiently as any conman, you couldn’t help but hope for something different.
Which was utterly ridiculous because nothing could ever happen between the both of you.
You were his subordinate. A soldier under his command. Nothing more, nothing less.
Still it didn’t stop you from growing closer to him. To share your most deepest thoughts with one another. And while Riza was also his confidant, one you were aware of, there was something different when it came to the talks you had with Roy. They were more personal, and felt more like a conversation between a man and a woman, rather then the exchange of information between two soldiers.
And though you tried to stop it, tried your best not to, you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. Fall in love with the man with who regretted every life he had taken, who wanted to see Amestris become a better country. He had a vision, one that was just as grand as him, and you hoped you would be a part of it.
That you would be by his side when it became a reality.
And while it was hard to keep your feelings a secret, considering how they were always just simmering beneath the surface whenever you interacted with him, especially outside of work, they remained unspoken.
And since they remained unspoken, your feelings only grew stronger with each passing day.
————————–
Unbeknownst to you, Roy was in the same predicament as you.
He hoped that you would be by his side when he achieved his dream. Perhaps then his heart would allow him to do what he wanted for so long.
To declare his love for you in that signature rambunctious style of his.
He had kept his feelings a secret from you for so long. Maes was aware of it. As was Riza. He only knew the latter because she had, in thinly veiled words, threatened to dismember him should he ever hurt you.
But he would never hurt you. He would rather die then hurt you intentionally. You, the only source of light and kindness that provided some sort of comfort to his broken soul. So many times he had come close to just confessing, to let everything come out in the open and damn the consequences, but he never did.
He had very nearly confessed when he had broken down in your arms after Maes’s passing. The man who had been his biggest supporter when it came to his feelings for you, but he had stopped. He had no desire to associate such an important moment with the worst time in his life.
Though if he had known that a few short weeks later, you would be on the verge of dying yourself, he would’ve confessed to you right then and there.
————————–
The pain at his side was still near overwhelming. The back of his palm itched and stung where he had carved the symbol he needed for flame alchemy.
But all that pain was nothing.
Nothing compared to the horrifying sight of you in the clutches of the Homunculi Lust.
You looked like you had taken quite the beating, with multiple bruises and cuts littering your body, a majority of them visible through your torn clothes. And you had.
You had lost all control when you had heard Lust speak so proudly and boastfully.
About the Flame Alchemist.
About killing the Flame Alchemist.
But you were no match for an all-powerful creature. Despite your years of training and weapons mastery, she had you pinned against the floor, one of her deadly claws aimed straight at your heart.
Though she changed positions when Roy stumbled in, followed by Riza.
Now she held you in front of herself like a shield, her sharp claw ascending from above your heart to press the tip of it against your delicate throat.
You let out a sob of relief at the sight of him.
“Roy!”
You hardly ever called him by his first name. And just with that word, he knew how worried and scared you had been that he was gone.
“Put her down.” He growled, his thumb itching to throw a fire blast in the direction of the Homunculi. Lust let out a soft laugh.
“Do you really believe you are in position to make demands of me Colonel Mustang?” She purred, the claw wrapped around your waist tightening, causing you to whimper as one of your fractured ribs throbbed with pain. “I shall enjoy tearing your little plaything apart.” Roy gritted his teeth as you let out a painful cry, unable to help yourself as her hold tightened. Beside him, Riza was no better. Her grip on her gun only increased, finger twitching to pull the trigger.
“D-d-o-on’t lis-te-n to h-er.” You managed to call out hoarsely, loud enough for your words to echo in the blindingly white room. Another laugh for Lust, one that had Roy growling under his breath, the fire in his eyes burning just as bright as any flame he normally created.
“Oh my, even on the brink of death you wish to bring your Colonel comfort.” She turned you around so she could look at you in the eye. “Tell me, are you willing to give up your life to save his?” She cooed, smiling sadistically. Your head turned slightly, so you could look at him over your shoulder. The true intensity of your love for Roy Mustang finally sunk in, burning so bright that it prompted you to look at Lust straight in the eye and say one word.
“Yes.”
Behind Lust you caught sight of Alphonse rising to his feet where Lust had thrown him aside during their fight. His armor was hidden behind a wall of stone he had built, so Roy and Riza hadn’t seen him yet. His red glowing eyes found yours, and you knew what was coming next.
A smile pulled at your lips. “But today is not that day.”
Lust barely had time to react to your words when Alphonse suddenly burst into action, sending a wall of stone in her direction. She had to drop you to save herself from being knocked off her feet.
“Now Roy!” The scream had barely left your lips when you felt the searing flames of his alchemy rush past you and engulf the Homunculi.
Lust’s screams of utter pain echoed all around you. Alphonse quickly surrounded you with a stone wall before rushing to your side and shielding you with his body.
Roy’s flames were intense. He was not holding back. Not when the image of you looking so broken, defeated and hurt was fresh in his mind. Not when the sight of you willing to die for him had his insides twisting in a painful way.
Despite the physical pain that had his body throbbing, it seemed nothing compared to the pain he was certain would ravage his very sense of being should he loose you.
And so he unleashed all that fear, anger and anguish in his flames, unblinking and unrelenting as the creature Lust screamed and screamed. Even Riza did not stop him, did not tell him to hold off. Lust was too dangerous to be left alive.
In Alphonse’s protective grasp, you felt your entire body trembling from the pain, but that didn’t stop you from lifting your head once Lust finally fell silent. Somehow, you broke free of his grip around you and managed to peer around the protective wall.
Only to be met with the sight of Roy falling to his knees, looking just as bad as you did. “Roy!” You whimpered, worry lacing your tone, as you tried to stand. But the twisted ankle did not allow you to get any further then a crouch.
“Alphonse, keep an eye on both of them! I’m getting help!” Called Riza as she all but sprinted away knowing neither you, Roy nor Havoc were in any position to be moved without medical assistance.
Roy was lying on his back now his eyes were on you, his arm outstretched, hand reaching out towards you. “Y/n.”
You quickly began to try and crawl towards him, though seeing you struggle, Aphonse quickly took over, lifting you up and bringing you to lie down next to your superior.
As soon as you were there, your hands found one another’s. Your fingers laced together and you held on tight as tears filled your eyes, while his shone with relief. “Are you okay?” He asked, his voice hoarse as he gripped your hand tighter, if that were even possible. You shook your head. “Forget about me. Lust said she killed you. I thought you were dead.” The tears began anew as you looked at his smiling face, very much alive and just as handsome as ever, despite his injured state. He reached out with his other hand to wipe away one of the falling tears. “Its gonna take more then a Homunculus to take me out.” He said in that confident voice of his, prompting a tearful laugh from your lips. Now that the danger has passed, the adrenaline was beginning to leave your body and you could feel your head begin to grow heavy and fuzzy, your eyes burning as you forced yourself to keep them open.
But it was no use. Already your eyelids were drooping, and everything around you was beginning to loose coherency.
Seeing you struggle with staying conscious, Roy turned his gaze to Alphonse who was hovering over them, Roy smiled. “Thanks Alphonse. Thank you for looking after the woman I love.”
Those were the last words you heard before you slowly slipped into the sweet embrace of darkness.
————————–
The next time you became aware of your surroundings you were lying on something soft.
Mumbling incoherently, you lifted a hand to your forehead, only to be met with resistance given that your arm was in a sling. Your entire body ached and felt so heavy that you were sure it had been run over by a tank.
But the real reason behind your current predicament slowly returned as your brain began to wake up.
Lust.
Lust hurting Alphonse.
Lust fighting you.
Taunting you.
Telling you Roy was dead.
Roy?
Roy!
“Roy!” His name fell from your lips as you suddenly sat up straight, followed by a cry of pain as your still healing ribs protested at the sudden movement. You wrapped an arm around your abdomen, grunting in pain.
“Yes?”
Startled you looked up, your head whipping to the side, only to be greeted with the sight of a very much alive Roy Mustang lying in a bed adjacent to yours. You could make out another bed next to his, with Havoc snoring away. It was the middle of the night, the only source of light in the room from the small lamp Roy had turned on as he read a book.
And seeing him sitting there, bandaged and looking so much better from when you had last seen it, doing something as mundane as reading a book, you couldn’t help but let out a sound of utter relief as you buried your face in your hands. You didn’t cry, but you were rather close.
“Oh you bastard.” Your words were muffled, but he heard you, considering he let out a chuckle. “Not exactly the words a man who confessed to you wants to hear, but I’ll take it to mean you’re feeling better now.”
You sighed, before removing your hands and turning to look at him. “It took you nearly dying to finally confess to me. You really know how to make a girl feel special you know.” You said, your smile soft yet teasing as you turned your head to look at him. Roy shrugged. “What can I say? I have a dramatic flare. Its a big part of my personality.” He admitted, smirking at you as he carefully slid from his bed, wincing from the pain at his side.
Your eyes dropped to his abdomen as he sat on the bed beside you. “How’re you feeling?” You asked, worry lacing your tone as your gaze moved to his hand where the symbol for flame alchemy was now scabbed over. You couldn’t help yourself as you reached out and gently took his hand in between your own. “Well my side still hurts, and I’m sharing a room with two other people despite my rank and not being looked after by a hot nurse, but other then that I have no complaints.” His words prompted a gentle laugh out of you as you finally lifted your gaze from his hand to meet his.
To say you were taken aback by the intensity of his eyes would be an understatement. You held his gaze, even as he reached up to brush your hair behind your ear. He didn’t lower his hand. Instead it stayed there, moving only to gently cup your cheek, brushing his thumb against the half-healed cut where Lust had caught you with one of her claws.
“I know you’ll probably tell me off later, but when Lust told me that she had killed you.” Your voice trembled slightly at the memory. “Something inside me broke and I started to attack her, with no regard for my own life.” The admittance had you a cold feeling creeping down your back but you continued, your eyes dropping to his chest. “In that moment I realized that I didn’t want to live. Not in a world where you weren’t alive.”
You sighed. “What I’m trying to say Roy, is that you mean so much to me. And I know this goes against every military rule there is about fraternizing with your superior but I-I love you too.” The words were barely out of your mouth before he closed whatever distance there was and pressed his lips against yours in a gentle kiss. The gesture was so unlike him, that it had you staring at him in surprise once he pulled back.
He smirked. “I know, I’m that good.” He said, and though his smile was smug, his eyes were sincere and adoring as he looked at you. Shaking your head you leaned forward to press your foreheads together, noses just barely touching, a wide smile on your lips. “I’ll need a repeat of that to judge for myself.” You stated, prompting him to let out a laugh, before he moved to comply to your request.
However the moment was broken by the grumbling of a certain fellow team member.
“Would you two stop flirting? People are trying to sleep here!”
You couldn’t help it as you muffled your laugh by pressing your lips against his once more.
