Um, so to start off, let's address the fact that Jeronica are being consistently portrayed as pathetic this season! V is pining after Bald meanwhile Jarhead is making up Bughead edits in his head. The question is...why? Like why still? Is stuff like that supposed to be a Bughead or Varchie crumb? Bc at this point, it would only count as such if it came from Barchie's pov. Why can't they just drop it and let Jeronica actually move on? Jughead ignores Tabby for weeks on end, and V is worried about who's endgame during the apocalypse. Like um, ladies...snap out of it!

Kinda just seems mean-spirited at this point, too. Like Roberto Sasquatch is bitter bc they had to do 4 seasons of BugVarchie since he was too much of a coward to go against fanservice for the Bughead stans. So now they have to rub it in every chance they get and make Jughead and Veronica (mostly Veronica) look like fools. I mean, look at her performance in this ep...girl! Can't even defend that, sweets. Most cringe since her rendition of "Carry the Torch" when she didn't know who it was about. And she's gonna go on about "I'm a glorified party planner and have no social life...but I'm fighting for my friends!" Like how do those things go together, V? It's true, everyone only goes to you when they need something. Someone please get this girl some actual friends. She's having a nervous breakdown! Here's to the ladies who lunch! Please have mercy on my girl during these difficult times.

And it's all to overcompensate for their bad writing and lack of build up for Barchie in the first place. Their s5 plot made no sense. Archie chose Veronica in the Next to Normal ep and even wanted to be just casual w her before he even considered Betty, just like how he chose a chance to pursue a married Veronica who may not even be interested over pursuing something serious w Betty. Do I think this should have even happened? Not really. Varchie never should have even been a thing after the time jump, and they should have just started w Barchie and given Archie's "love triangle w Chad" plot to Reggie. But Varchie is what they chose to write, so...they can't just act like things didn't happen how they did. And this is from someone that genuinely did and wants to like Barchie as a couple, but the story they're giving them is only good if you make it up in your head - if you just ship the IDEA of Barchie instead of paying attention to what they actually say and do on screen. It's obvious that Betty is and always has been in love w the Scarlet Beast, but when will he show anything toward her that is strictly romantic and can't be interpreted as just a deep love and friendship bond? They are best friends and there is a sexual element, but where is the romantic element? He's never been afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve in the past. I disagree that Betty is the one holding back. Archie didn't dump Veronica specifically for Betty (which would have been more meaningful). He was just certain that he wanted to stay in Riverdale since he gave up on his individual desires and wants to exist as the thematic embodiment of Fred. But is he certain that Betty is the one he wants to build a life with? If so, I would like him to demonstrate that instead of it just seeming like he decided to give it a go bc they both decided to stay in Riverdeuce.

Another thing is why do they have to act so high and mighty about killing Percival? Hiram only stopped after he was dead. Nothing but death can stop these types of all-powerful, relentless villains. Plus, not everyone has the privilege to be so morally perfect, valuing principles over people. Archie is lucky that Grenade Heather knows Sabrina or else his reluctance to kill would have just resulted in the deaths of half the townspeople. Is it not worth getting a little blood on your hands to save the people and town you care about? I'm sure the show will find a loophole where they won't have to kill him and can win anyway, but still! Meanwhile, Betty just killed someone last episode. I hope his morals aren't too black and white for someone like her bc I don't want her to be on pins and needles, worried about fucking up bc Archie will change his view of her if she does. And if he doesn't, then he's a crypohit!

Anyways, like Toni finna be rude as hell to V all last season then come ask her to plan a last-minute wedding? Da fuq? And ask Cheryl to officiate? She was highkey a jerk this ep! Omg and Fangs' vows? It was like half a sentence, girl, and u had to write it down? Does anyone even like Fangs anymore? I feel like ya'll just liked him bc of Sweet Pea and when ppl pretended to care about Kangs. Told yinz he should've stayed dead in s2 that one time!

P. S. I think everyone died at the reception bc they all thought back to V's performance and just couldn't take it. Also, why were everyone's outfits so ugly this ep? Js.

Alright, this year SUCKED- except for the fic! I don't wanna dwell on the misery that was this whole year, but I do wanna celebrate some really talented authors who kept me going this year. So here are 21 of my favorite fics from 2021 :D

I'm putting my unfiltered vomit ramblings - along with the second part of your ask - under the cut so I can be more wordy and tedious than normal LOL It's gonna be long, because I'll put some of my general thoughts on the episode in here, too. Not sure this was what you had in mind when you sent those asks, but now it's too late to back down ahah I should probably warn the readers that some of my opinons could come off as brutal or too pessimistic. Well, I'm sorry, but I tried my best rational approach. Please don't hate me?

Ok, so...I have very mixed feelings about this episode, too. Regarding BH mostly, but also in general. As much as I tried to enjoy the writers' wobbly attempt at explaining the whole duplicity of Dale/Vale, it was all so chaotic that I'm sure there'll be someone - me included - who's gonna need a second or even third watch.

The best parts, and I'm saying this with all honesty, were - hands down - double Reggies and double Jugheads interacting.

Plus, honorable mention for Veronica going all "here's to Vughead becoming canon". The fact that they chose Vughead instead of Jeronica (the second one is cuter, if you ask me), says it all on who will lead the couple LOL Even though the concept of Reggie #1 and Reggie #2 is cool and all, bringing Ross back might confuse the heck out of casual viewers or people who hasn't been binging S1 recently. If the concept of multiple Jugheads - and paradox in general - is quite tricky to portray using the same actor for all doppelgangers, imagine bringing in another actor entirely. We appreciated it and find it funny, an homage if you will, but most of the audience is bound to be confused. My take on Bughead is probably going to make me unpopular, but I thought I was going to be more excited and happier. But all I felt was happy-sad. They kissed to "re-enact" a BA moment. Also,m as Jughead tries to explain, since he takes Archie's place, there was no need to replicate the 'scene' with the same people. So in the end, any couple could have kissed on that bed to ensure the cosmic alignment or whatever. It so happened that Betty was there, so we got a Bughead kiss, but...Should I think that's remotely romantic? Like, for real? No, sorry, I can't go that far. It was necessity and they approached the whole thing rather rationally. Of course, we can imagine they felt "something" during that kiss, and that maybe it triggered old feelings. But please, please remember those were Vale Bughead, as far as we know they might not have had the same background Dale Bughead had. Betty mentioned her biggest struggle was to choose between Archie and Jughead in 6x01, but do we know how long BH were together?

Do we know if it was as intense and immersive like the relationship they had in the "real" universe?

No. Nobody had that knowledge - I believe not even the writers went as deep as developing such a complete backstory for all the characters/relationships in Vale. Like, I might have missed it, but is there any reference to Varchie being in a long, turbulent relationship, either? We don't know. There's minimum background.

Did I enjoy their scenes together?

Of course I did, but if you keep context in mind, you can't honestly tell me everything felt "normal" and "comfortable". And I'm not referring to the chemistry between Cole and Lili. As usual, there was A TON. The scene in the living room, when they're both teary eyed broke me. It broke my heart, ok? It brought me back to 2x21 and Jug's last call to the love of his live to tell her he'd always love her. I'm talking about two characters desperate to save two universes, but not for the sake of being together again. But to save their lives and the ones of the people living on the other side. It's noble and genuinely selfless of them, yes, but in terms of Bughead meaning...I didn't see much of it. If you did, please comment and share your reasoning. I'm open to more optimistic and creative interpretations. I mean if I have to like BH scenes - regardless of the context and WHO these characters are and the story they shared in Vale, which is basically NONEXISTENT aside from "crumbs" - then YES!, give me more makeout sessions on carrot-top bed and killing bride Betty. I think Sophia Soto meant this when she tweeted BH had the "best content, given the context". The context either being a) they're not kissing because they're getting back together, but because they were the two people available at that time or b) they're kissing but it's not in Riverdale. But, knowing what we know, that RiverVale storylines will forever be independent from Riverdale's, that no matter what happened on Vale, BH will probably not remember any of it in the main universe... Can I voluntarily sign up to that and be happy? Excuse me if I choose not to.

Narrator Jughead told Betty she'd eventually FORGET Jug's EXISTENCE, he'll completely FADE from her memory. We've been going on and on about pro-Bughead-reunion symbolism hidden in every small detail and crevice of the plot for weeks -me included - and we're going to ignore THIS? Symbolism can work both ways, whether we like it or not. In favor or against our ship. That's a fact and the sooner we come to terms with that, the sooner we'll be able to process whatever is going to be thrown our way, ship-wise. What if both Riverdale Jug and Betty are destined to forget, too?

What's more, Narrator!Jughead, the only Jughead showing his face in RiverVale, never dated Betty. That was RiverVale Jughead which is now tightly buried alive in the bunker of doom, eating burgers and writing incessantly. Narrator Jughead and Betty don't have hystory together.

In the end, the choice to settle for - rather ambiguous - crumbs or to give to those crumbs the lowest value, is very subjective.

I am not personally interested in settling for the BH content we got in 6x05, but I won't judge anyone who chooses to do so. This is a nice, welcoming fandom and people should be allowed to have different opinions, as long as they're able to express them politely.

All being said, I am of course, willing to admit I'm wrong and still hope for Bughead being endgame. I mean that's why I'm still here, sticking around in this struggling fandom. I do wish Betty and Jughead will end up together eventually. It's just hard for me to see the light, right now.

Bonus downpoint (I'm feeling extra tonight): I see people screaming "Betty killed Archie, this is BH endgame material!" What? killing Archie in a universe in which nobody stays dead for long? That's just meaningless. It's like Betty goes "okay, Imma shoot him in the head but he'll come back at some point, so it's all good". And for this reason I think we shouldn't rely too much on Betty's actions regarding Archie's premature departure (both times). PS: do we have CONFIRMATION that Betty and Archie didn't go through with the wedding in Vale? Because if not, then my "Jughead is writing his romantic happy ending with Betty in Val and nobody is gonna take that away from him" theory goes right down the drain, since BAs would be officially married.

They (RAS & Co.) have no clue as to WHO the endgames are.

No clue. They thought they could play around and have more time to 'explore' whatever the hell they want to explore (Archie's oral cavity?) but thing is...they're not gonna have that much time. I don't think they'll get a S7.

Hello I’m back to ask for Jughead Jones for the character thing as well aha

Favorite thing about them - Jughead, even if he is sometimes impulsive and it makes him do dumb shit, is adamant in his quest for truth and justice and he won’t stop until he gets it. It’s noble, and yes, sometimes annoying because of just how much he’s willing to bulldoze over anyone to get what he wants, but overall it’s nice that he has that mentality of trying to help people (aka a parallel to Jeronica and Jarchie since that’s their entire thing too!)

Least favorite thing about them - His impulsive stubbornness makes me want to punch the shit out of him. I understand where he’s coming from most of the time but he just pushes and pushes and pushes, not caring who he fucks over to get what he wants (though, that may just be because of the negative influence that Bughead has to him because he’s a lot better when they’re not together).

Favorite line - "Necrophelia, Reggie. Can you spell it?” Simply because I miss him being a sarcastic little shit head WITHOUT it being forced and annoying and such.

BROTP/NOTP - Bughead, like Varchie, would have been SO much better as just friends. Over the course of s1 building their “relationship” they should have come together in the end realizing that they weren’t compatible whatsoever and they were just using each other for companionship and placeholders.

OTP - Jeronica, obviously. Jugpea, Ghoulhead, Jabitha, and Jarchie would also make me happy. Special mention to Reghead 😏

Random headcanon - When Veronica/Tabitha were/are working at Pop’s, when he stays late a lot of the time he will help them clean up and lessen the stress. Also, they usually give him food and they chill and talk for a couple of hours so he really looks forward to that

Unpopular opinion - Other than my BH rant up top, despite my love for Jeronica, he should be best friends with Veronica… like they have so much in common and are the most compatible in the show.

Also, ignoring how many people I ship him with, I kinda wish they went through with Jughead being Asexual because we could have had that rep and that way they would have to focus on friendships with the most popular character. Like, Cole wanted him to be and petitioned for him to be asexual and the fact that they said no… and that they most likely said no BECAUSE of his fame as a Disney star and such which makes him one of the most popular characters aka shoving him with a love interest for the young fans to self insert as is so fucked.

Can you do the 002 Jughead ?

Well hey there, hi there, ho there, dear anon. I can indeed, I had to look for the actual post to find the questions but let's do it!

002 I Jughead Jones

How I feel about this character: Hmm....I like some parts of him alone and I like him generally with Betty. He's amusing at some points - like when he asked Hermoine point blank if she shot her husband, and when she responded that she loved her husband, he snarkily replied "yeah, but did you shoot him?". Love that for him. He's kind of a human disaster right now, but like, in an interesting way? To be quite honest, I don't really pay attention to Jughead outside of Betty.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I mean, I've said this before, but I am in this show for Bughead. So there is just Bughead. Nothing but the Bughead. And let's be honest, he'd drive any other partner crazy.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: This is a tough one. I have a lot of unpopular opinions about the RD fandom that basically nobody shares, and that I don't really post publicly, but I will say that I don't really get it when people say he and Toni would have/should have/did get along so well. I do enjoy his friendship with Tabitha. I'd say Jabitha and Jeronica, in a non-romantic setting, I enjoy their scenes together. We know I don't think the Core 4 are even a thing, so sadly, I cannot say Jarchie.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don't know how unpopular it is, but a few things: Jughead is an awful writer. Look, I don't consider myself an amazing writer but I could write circles around Jughead, his prose is awful and he is basically writing fanfic of real life. Also, as a fanfiction trope, I tend to kind of avoid people writing Jughead as a super attractive, bad boy sex god. The boy is a tiny nerd. It's just a fact. Now, should any of you want to write him as such, go ahead! There's nothing wrong with it. It's fanfiction, it's a discretionary interpretation of fictional charcaters. But wow, in my mind, the boy is under no circumstances the dangerous bad boy some fics write him as. I also don't find Cole Sprouse attractive really so that is also a factor.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I want to hear canonically what his experience growing up was. We all know I'm no FP fan, but I'd like it canonized that Jughead was in an abusive home and himself suffered abuse. my cross over ship: Clearly, this will never happen, but if the show would allow Jughead and Wynonna of Wynonna Earp to meet, I would die. I would happily pay money to see what Wynonna would have to say about him.

a headcanon fact: Jughead has liked Betty long before S1. The boy had been dating her for a few weeks and he already wanted their parents to meet because he thought it was important for their future. This may go back to what I want in canon, but bb Bughead is something I so want explored.

what do you think they don't let jeronica have scenes together? can it be because of some cast or fandom drama? i find it impossible to watch riverdale post-season 2 and understand why the hell they never let them become (at least) friends. their story is so damn connected. it would make so much sense. what doesn't make sense is that they don't

ha, well, back in the day we speculated that even a jeronica friendship would seriously threaten the main couples that riverdale was trying to sell because these two have insane chemistry and their background and storylines are way more exciting when put together (as you also pointed out) and i still think that’s true, buuuuut in recent years i’ve come to suspect there’s a little more to it. i mean yeah, riverdale has pretty much turned into a “whatever we throw at the wall and sticks” kind of show, but they also have weirdly moral stances about who should be together and the *right* teen couples (and yes, that is gross and weird and controlling).

so my pet theory is that this might all be about barchie. the showrunner gives me the impression that he wanted to be clever and *subvert* expectations (especially wrt. to the comics), and show that betty and archie are actually deluded in their young love and don’t belong together. that’s why b*ghead is presented as a “smarter” ship, because uhhh deconstructing-america’s-sweethearts-something-something. and look, isn’t betty brave to be going out with an “outsider”? so, despite the fact that the show has and will continue to explore barchie for the drama and chemistry, it feels like the showrunner is very invested in ultimately shutting it down because he wants to be *right* about the main couples. and it’s not enough to show how misguided barchie is, you have to also make sure the reverse couple is not palatable. except that jeronica could actually be a solid duo, clearly better than v*rchie, at least (i’d argue it’s better than most of the ships this show has tried to make a thing, but anyway). even GG saw this and paired up dan and blair.  but GG weren’t obsessed with proving that the equivalent of betty and archie (serena and nate?) are wrong for each other. whereas, the riverdale showrunner really wants you to know how much he understands The Teens (TM). that scene in s4 where cheryl makes a big case about how b*ghead found each other? that is the showrunner talking, cheryl is just the avatar through which he’s making his stance known. and his stance is “betty thinks she wants that, but i know she actually needs this”. ultimately, the writers of this show have their own preferences, and fine, they don’t click with jeronica, but the lack of bare-minimum friendship and interactions makes me think this has to do with the weird, holier-than-thou stance about barchie. why else do they keep framing barchie as misguided cheating and young kids who don’t know any better? and since i mentioned b*ghead (a ship which happened in roughly 5 episodes of season 1), i wouldn’t have had a problem with it and might have enjoyed it if it had better development and didn’t constantly have to pit itself against barchie in a weird pseudo-moralistic stance. it’s like none of these ships can stand on their own and be their own dynamics because the showrunner needs to prove a point. and okay, you can frame it as this *foursome* being very tangled and incestuous, but they don’t do that either, because the storylines are not about exploring the messiness of the core four, but rather about making sure only half of them interact and the other half is presented as morally dubious. at the same time, they have no qualms about milking the romance of barchie for the #drama*. it’s...weird. and lol, i’m sorry this has turned into a RANT but it needs to be said that the CW as a whole seems to be in the business of placing young people in weird situations and then shaming them for it. and that is pretty awful. anyway! that’s my take on it. sure, there could also be cast drama involved, but given the way this show is written, i think it’s more likely this is about some nebulous *values* that the showrunner and writers are trying to promote. 

*i also wanna add, i’m not even a ride-or-die barchie, i like them fine and i think they have solid chemistry, but it feels like this show is frollo and barchie are their esmeralda, if you catch my drift lol

i have so many mixed feelings about riverdale, thank you for the ask!

what i dislike (because we end on high notes)

- my biggest problem with the show is that it completely forgets that its cast has to interact with each other. you’ve got four main characters, each with a foot in a different world and plotline and that’s great, but there has to be a plot connecting them, otherwise it doesn’t matter! archie and veronica’s stories were so boring in season 4 that i actually skipped past some of their scenes. why should i care about fred’s mysterious twin brother? if you skip all his scenes, you literally don’t miss anything because he didn’t matter. i want to care about the core four as a friend group, but they always pair up betty/jughead and archie/veronica. there should be more crisscross, more of the boys and b & v, put jughead and veronica together, throw cheryl and toni and kevin in, mix it up, or at least have more group scenes!

- the reason betty and jughead’s stories are more compelling (at least, to me) is because they capture what i watch riverdale for, spooky murder mysteries. it’s always them (mostly betty) who’s thrown into danger, who tries to get behind it all, and if you compare that to veronica’s rum business, it just....doesn’t work. it’s sad because archie and veronica are good characters who are given useless plot lines. with more spooky stuff, they could actually shine.

- unpopular opinion time (i think) - i dislike cheryl strongly. i liked her in the first two seasons, she was a zany, fun character who needed a hug, but the way she treated toni in season 3 and 4 was....awful. she admitted to gaslighting her! plus the whole business with the gangs. i hate that it was treated as a feminist issue. fangs didn’t get kicked out because he was helping his sick mom or something, cheryl stole from hiram for the hell of it, and then when she was kicked out for violating a rule, acted like it happened because she was a girl. proceeded to lead a beating of two men, one of whom is a POC. she is a rich, privileged girl, who has treated her girlfriend terribly.

- jughead should have been a POC with the storyline that he has. 

- some things that should mean a lot just...don’t mean anything. why tf is veronica okay with penelope running her rum business when she tried to kill them all? how is archie making a truce with hiram when he is The Worst? alice gave away all of betty’s college money??????

- what happened to hermione’s character after season 1? she was so interesting and they just...made her hiram’s puppet.

- if you don’t take it seriously it’s so fucking funny iwfgegf like.....the scene where betty is the gryphon queen, ethel’s seizure, archie’s classic “epic highs and lows of high school football” plus “i am red” and the fact that edgar evernever was in a fucking rocket like what a funny show

- the core four! betty. hot take? i think? but betty is not a bland character. the show romanticizes her mental illness which sucks big time, but she herself is very compelling and fun to watch. she gets emotionally tortured a lot, but the actress does it pretty well (lili reinhart was kinda bad in season 1, but she improved a lot). her arc with the black hood and with the farm were my favorite parts of each season. jughead. like i said, i think he should have been a poc with his storyline, but he’s still fun nonetheless. my favorite jug was the one in the first season, because archie and jughead was such a cute friendship and i miss it. archie. my boy has a heart of gold and he’s a dumbass and makes bad decisions but you can’t help but like him. the show likes to forget that he’s supposed to be the main character. veronica. she has such an interesting character and backstory and it’s a crime that all she does is run her underground club or whatever because if you throw her in a murder mystery, it would be very interesting.

- the season 4 murder mystery was, in my opinion, the best one. moreso than jason’s, because, like, you kind of suspect clifford blossom anyway? they’ve already considered him, but in season 4 the full reveal of who and how and why was unexpected and i really really love bret and donna as villains, i hope we see more of them.

- as ridiculous as it was, i enjoyed the breakfast club episode. 

- everyone is so hot in this show. the core four? hot. the serpents? hot. the pussycats? hot. the parents? hiram and hermione lodge could step on me, please and thank you.

- bughead is cute and i’ve read a couple of fanfics about them. there was basically no buildup in canon, we don’t know how close they were before the show started, but like. meh. it’s one of those basic ships you like because the actors have chemistry and they’re cute.

- something i complained about before, but i like the core four as a group! all of their scenes together are the best. the booth at pop’s, survive the night, the entirety of the lake house episode (the jeronica kiss was :) don’t @ me) 

- it’s a good show to watch to pass the time and you may find it satisfying if you’re thirsty for murder mysteries like i am.

I really hope that if/when they both inevitably find out about barchie that jughead and veronica actually face and talk to each other about it? (bc somehow I don't find it out of the line for the writers to just literally have them talk their issues to anyone else but each other) It just sucks that the so-called 'the core four' is pretty much established and yet jeronica don't even have a proper friendship that goes past just tolerating each other bc they're dating each other's bestfriends

I feel you. This is what triggered me the most during the whole series: this two characters have really a lot in common other than Betty and Archie, and they also spend a lot of time together. Not making them interact is just a pity. But they have the opportunity to turn it around now. Now, your post gave me the opportunity to write about something that I’m thinking about a lot. Let me roll my sleeves up and take you on this wild journey, my dear Anon.

As my dear James Joyce once said, absence is the highest form of presence. The fact that Veronica and Jughead did not interact that much could be a useful tool in a writer’s hand to explore their relationship from a different angle. And this angle is: why did they not interact? How can you be so distant from someone that you spend so much free time with? If they actually take the time to build this up with more than two episodes, the fact that they barely talked to each other for such a long time could actually turn into a smart and interesting move. My point is: absence can be used and interpreted as something that is purposely left unsaid, creating a void that has a deeper meaning. Was this absence created by prejudice towards one another? Was it a subconscious interest suppressed by loyalty? I’m not talking about a romantic interest, of course, cause it would make no sense, but an intellectual one. Actively avoiding something or someone can sometimes be our way to ignore a truth that we are not yet ready to face. In this case: the fact that Veronica and Jughead are two faces of the same coin, more similar than they would like to admit. Good writing consists in shaping characters that are defined more by what they leave unsaid than by what they actually say or do.

My point is: I don’t think that the writers had this ideas all along. They just did not develop stuff that they should have had. I also think that there are some off screen reasons to why barchie happened right now, after four seasons of the same couples. But with this good move they put in their own hands such great tools to make this show amazing that it would be a pity not to use. Being someone who loves to read and write, who studies literature and dreams of becoming a screenwriter..this above is how I would personally develop the story.

Most Popular Riverdale Couples Ranked Based on Chemistry Test

Someone requested that I rank the most popular Riverdale couples based on chemistry and compatibility with the scientific test that I previously used which marks harmony between people based on their biorhythm levels. Do you ever wonder why some couples have more chemistry than other couples on Riverdale or any show? That’s because the pair of actors within a couple have more chemistry than another pair of actors within another couple. I decided to rank the most well known and popular (and mostly teen) Riverdale couples (the couples included in this list are Barchie, Bughead, Beronica, Jarchie, Cheronica, Choni, Veggie, Varchie, Jeronica, Archosie, and Falice) from which couple has the least chemistry to which couple has the best chemistry using the scientific Biorhythm Love Compatibility and Chemistry Test. This scientific chemistry test is 99.9% accurate in its chemistry and compatibility readings for romantic couples. Even though this test is used for romantic couples, it can be used to determine compatibility between friends, family members, co-workers, pets and enemies. This test has been used to measure people’s biorhythms for nearly 3,000 years, and this test is the most accurate test to determine chemistry and compatibility between two people. In this post, I’m using the chemistry ratings of the real-life actors and applying their chemistry ratings and compatibility ratings to their on-screen fictional pairings and how I believe they parallel each other. So, while these chemistry ratings may be between the two real-life actors of the couple, I’m applying their chemistry scores to their on-screen relationships and discussing their compatibility and chemistry scores as if the fictional couple were the pair of the two real-life actors that are portraying the couple. Which pairing/couple reigns supreme and has the best chemistry out of all the Riverdale pairings? Let’s find out.

RATINGS: 

To determine which couple has the best chemistry and which couple has the worst chemistry, a rating system determines the chemistry and compatibility in the Overall Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Emotional Chemistry and Intellectual Chemistry area.

0% to 40% Rating: VERY BAD, TERRIBLE, AWFUL or HORRENDOUS. If a romantic couple has scores these numbers, it indicates very low chemistry or compatibility. There may be a significant lack of chemistry in any particular area (Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Overall) where the romantic couple receive this rating. In addition, a rating in this bracket may indicate a disharmonious romantic relationship. With a bad chemistry score such as this, are we sure that the two people in the romantic couple are a romantic match made in heaven?

40% to 50% Rating: NOT GOOD or BELOW AVERAGE. If a romantic couple scores these numbers, it indicates mediocre and or below average chemistry and compatibility. There may be a mediocre amount of chemistry in any particular area (Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Overall) where the romantic couple receive this rating. Though this score is not anything to tout about, it’s not extremely terrible either. A couple with this score is the definition of mediocrity. 

50% to 60% rating is average

60% to 64% is satisfactory

65% to 70% rating is above average

70% to 74% rating is good

75% to 84% rating is very good

85% to 100% rating is excellent, outstanding or exceptional.

AREAS OF THE TEST:

Physical Chemistry Rating: This area focuses on sexual, physical and aesthetic chemistry and compatibility between two people. It determines whether or not two people will have a very satisfying sexual relationship, have good sexual chemistry/feelings of desire or if two people physically match or look good together aesthetically. If the score is low in this area, it means that the sexual chemistry, sexual passion and desire, and physical compatibility will be lacking between the two people or don’t physically or aesthetically match– this equates to having little to no physical, romantic or sexual chemistry.. If the score is high in this area, it indicates that there is a very high sexual desire and the chemistry between two people and that they match each other aesthetically and physically.

Emotional Chemistry Rating: This area focuses on emotional chemistry and connection between two people. It dictates whether two people will have a very strong emotional connection, bond or compatibility. This is arguably the most important area of chemistry and compatibility in this test. If the score is low in this area, it indicates that there’s a lack of an emotional connection between the two partners involved, that the relationship between the two partners will be less harmonious and that their relationship will be significantly harder to make work romantically. If the score is high in this area, it indicates high emotional compatibility and a strong emotional bond and connection. Having a strong emotional connection and chemistry would make it much easier for a romantic relationship to work between two people. In addition, a high Emotional Chemistry rating or score indicates strong chances for a psychic, empathic, or telepathic bond or connection to be formed or developed between the two romantic partners. It’s also not out of the realm of possibility for those with a very high Emotional Chemistry or Compatibility to be soulmates or have a soulmate connection.

Intellectual Chemistry & Compatibility Rating: This area focuses on intellectual chemistry and compatibility between two people. It dictates whether two people will bond on an intellectual level or whether the partners will understand each other intellectually. It shows whether the two people involved in the relationship will complement each other’s intellectual capabilities. If the score is high in this area, it indicates that the two partners will have high intellectual chemistry and they will provide much intellectual stimulation for each other. Having high intellectual chemistry could also indicate that the two partners intellectual capabilities will serve to complement each other beneficially and positively. If the score is low in this area, it means there’s a lack of intellectual compatibility and the two people involved in the relationship aren’t on the same intellectual wavelength. Therefore, there may be an intellectual clash or lack of intellectual stimulation between the two people involved in the couple which can lead to mental boredom in the relationship.

Overall + Total Chemistry Rating: This is the most important rating of the entire test. It combines and averages out all of the ratings and scores of the Emotional Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Intellectual Chemistry ratings. If the overall chemistry rating is low, it shows a lack of overall chemistry and compatibility between the two people involved. The lower the score, the worst the overall chemistry and compatibility are between the romantic couple. It also indicates that making a romantic relationship work would be very difficult and challenging. If the overall chemistry rating is high, it indicates a very harmonious and compatible romantic union that is sure to stand the test of time and overcome any problems and challenges thrown their way with ease! In addition, an overall high chemistry and compatibility rating indicates that the romantic couple has a high success rate and is likely to last longer than most romantic relationships. In addition, a high overall compatibility rating may indicate a possible soulmate connection or union between soulmates. 

Here are the rankings of the most popular Riverdale ships from worst chemistry to best chemistry based on the test: 

#11. Bughead (35% Overall Chemistry Rating, 68% Physical Chemistry Rating, 33% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 05% Intellectual Chemistry Rating; Worst Overall Chemistry Rating; Worst Intellectual Chemistry Rating at 05% - Tied With Cheronica)

Starting at the bottom of the rankings at #11 is Bughead. This odd couple (or in other words, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart) only garnered an abysmal 35% Overall Chemistry Rating. With this low chemistry and compatibility score, Bughead takes the unfortunate title of the Riverdale Couple with the WORST or LEAST amount of overall chemistry and compatibility according to the test. Considering their deficient overall chemistry rating, it’s admittedly an urgent warning for the writers that they should separate these two characters and situate them in a relationship where they would have chemistry. These two lack chemistry and science is supporting this fact. No matter how hard the writers try to push this relationship into the forefront and proclaim they are an amazing and epic love story and couple, their relationship will continue to lack chemistry and be dull and unexciting. Regrettably, it’s not just the noticeable lack of chemistry that genuinely makes Bughead a lousy couple. It’s terrible writing and the lack of development in their relationship. Remember, on-screen chemistry is only a part of what makes a good couple or pairing. The other aspects include excellent writing, good dialogue, and proper development, none of which Bughead has. As a result, it’s overwhelmingly not a shock that Bughead has the least amount of chemistry and obtains the worst chemistry rating out of all the Riverdale couples, but the fundamental lack of proper writing and proper development for this mediocre couple undoubtedly makes them the worst and most boring couple on the show. Breaking down their Physical, Emotional and Intellectual Ratings, Bughead’s best/highest score was their Physical Chemistry Rating. Bughead scored an above average rating of 68% Physical Chemistry Rating. This score means that about physical chemistry and being an aesthetic or physical match; they remain an above average couple. Their Physical Chemistry score is nothing special, but out of all their ratings, this is undoubtedly the one area where Bughead genuinely has some clout. Looking at Bughead’s Physical Chemistry rating in direct comparison to some of the other couples on this list, their decent score in this area is still nothing impressive. Some of the other couples on this list have exceptionally high Physical Chemistry scores and ratings of 75%+. Though Bughead scored an above average grade in Physical Chemistry, Bughead severely lacks in the other crucial areas of the test including Emotional Chemistry (Only 33% Emotional Chemistry Rating) and Intellectual Chemistry (Only a pathetic 05% Intellectual Chemistry Rating!). The low Emotional Chemistry Rating between Bughead indicates that they lack a deep, emotional connection. Without that emotional connection, it undoubtedly makes it hard for Jughead and Betty (and by extension, Cole, and Lili) to have genuinely emotional moments during deep, intimate scenes. It is the critical area where Bughead lacks chemistry and why there’s a part of the fanbase who justly complain about Bughead’s cinematic scenes and on-screen chemistry falling flat or lacking spark. There’s a lack of emotional gravitas to many of their one on one scenes. The reason behind this is the low Emotional Chemistry rating for Bughead. The exceptionally low Intellectual Chemistry Rating between Bughead (more like Cole and Lili) is quite shocking to me especially since Bughead is popularly known as the “Smart or Intelligent Couple” of the show. I believe what makes them intellectually incompatible is they may be too similar in intellectual capabilities and smarts. They don’t offer an intellectual challenge or stimulation for each other because their intellectual interests are remarkably identical which could incite possible mental boredom. Their intellectual capabilities and wavelengths don’t complement each other or give each other enough intellectual excitement. It gives them a mediocre rating in the Intellectual Chemistry area (But it’s also suggesting that Cole and Lili are intellectually incompatible and don’t offer each other intellectual stimulation.) Their combined score of a 35% Chemistry Rating makes Bughead the Riverdale couple with the least amount of chemistry and compatibility. To be blunt, Bughead is the Riverdale couple on this list whose chemistry and harmony are the worst! The proof is in how low their chemistry rating is. Sorry, Bughead fans! It’s simply science!

#10. Veggie/Reggonica (48% Overall Chemistry Rating, 96% Physical Chemistry Rating, 33% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 14% Intellectual Chemistry Rating)

Coming in at #10 is Veggie. This modest couple only scored a slightly below average 48% Overall Chemistry Rating. This rating is moderately surprising to me because Charles Melton and Camila Mendes are dating off-screen. So to discover that their chemistry rating is undoubtedly on the average side was a little surprising to me (But then again, Cole and Lili are also dating off-screen, and their chemistry rating is terrible so...). However, I believe what makes Veggie have decent enough organic chemistry as a couple is that they have reasonably good development and excellent writing for their relationship. Out of all the current canon couples, Veggie underwent the best journey. So while Veggie’s chemistry rating might not be excellent, what makes them a pair with decent chemistry is again the writing and development of the couple. It is where Veggie differs strikingly from Bughead. Not only does Bughead have bad chemistry (Naturally going by their meager chemistry rating) but they moreover have bad writing and a distinct lack of proper development, solidifying their desolate spot as the worst couple on this list. At least Veggie has some decent progress and good writing in their corner to help tremendously fuel their dynamic. Let’s not forget that regarding their outstanding 96% Physical Chemistry Rating, they genuinely have excellent palpable and sexual chemistry and aesthetically speaking, and they look good together according to the test. This high rating was showcased when Veggie shared their established first on-screen kiss in 3x09 and sparks sure flew! That is because physically and aesthetically, Veggie has solid chemistry. In essential addition, if Veggie has a sex scene in the future episodes, their sex scene is sure to be hot, sizzling and intense due to them having a very high Physical Chemistry score. The prominent places where Veggie fails spectacularly to produce and fall flat are the Emotional Chemistry (Only scored 33% Emotional Chemistry Rating) and Intellectual Chemistry (Only scored a mediocre 14% Intellectual Chemistry Rating) areas. The lack of Emotional Chemistry between Veggie indicates they don’t have the most robust emotional connection and that their relationship is more dependent on Physical Chemistry. Because of the distinct lack of Emotional Chemistry between Veggie (and by direct extension, Charles and Camila), I fear Veggie may become a relationship based on sex and lust if the writers aren't aware with how to write this relationship. Finally, the lowest rating or area for Veggie is the Intellectual Chemistry score. It is typically an unfavorable rating that I can understand because Veronica is a brilliant, knowledgable, and logical character, despite her rare dumb moments. Reggie isn’t the brightest tool in the shed and therefore, he would be unfit to sufficiently provide Veronica with the mental stimulation that she would genuinely need to be amply satisfied. Overall, while Veggie doesn’t have an exceptional chemistry score, Veggie does make up for their overall average chemistry rating in other useful ways including excellent writing and decent development.

#9. Jarchie (50% Overall Chemistry Rating; 58% Physical Chemistry Rating, 00% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 93% Intellectual Chemistry Rating; Worst Emotional Chemistry Rating at 0%)

Falling at #9 on this rankings list is Jarchie. They have an average 50% Overall Chemistry Rating. They don’t have the best overall chemistry, but again, it isn’t the worst on this list as they surpass both Veggie and Bughead. Cole Sprouse and KJ Apa being close friends in real life may make their chemistry appear better on-screen. Moreover, the writing for Jarchie is reasonably excellent and reliable in general. Their highest score was uniquely the Intellectual Chemistry which is respectively a very excellent score of 93% Intellectual Chemistry Rating. Moving on, Jarchie has an average 58% Physical Chemistry Rating. It isn't the most outstanding score, but it’s still considered a decent score. If Jarchie were to represent a romantic, canon gay couple, they would look adorable together aesthetically speaking. Where Jarchie fails to produce efficiently is the Emotional Chemistry, in which they scored a profoundly dreadful 0% Emotional Chemistry Rating! I was shocked by this rating between Jarchie (More like Cole and KJ!). I was surprised by this abysmal rating on an emotional level because usually, Jarchie's emotional scenes and friendship scenes remain some of my favorite moments on this show. For the majority of the time, Cole and KJ deliver their emotional friendship scenes very well. But I mean, how can best longtime friends like Archie and Jughead not have a solid emotional chemistry score? That is the rating or score that makes the least sense out of all the ratings on this list. But where Jarchie severely lacks in Emotional Chemistry, they somewhat make up for in the Physical Chemistry area and especially in the Intellectual Chemistry area. Jarchie has an Intellectual Chemistry rating of a massive 93% which is considered to be an outstanding score. The Intellectual Chemistry Rating being exceptionally superior between Jarchie shows that they have an unusually profound intellectual connection and compatibility. It makes much sense in a way when it comes to Jarchie and their relationship because if anyone can challenge and complement Archie mentally and intellectually, it’s most definitely Jughead. Jughead happens to make Archie a much smarter and more logical person and much less of an impulsive and reckless person like he typically is. Jughead is technically a more intelligent and more logical character than Archie so Jughead can challenge Archie to make better and more rational decisions in which he has and continues to do. I naturally expected a higher overall chemistry score between Jarchie but it is what it is, and I will nevertheless continue loving their genuine friendship regardless of their average chemistry score.

#8. Choni (54% Overall Chemistry Rating, 85% Physical Chemistry Rating, 43% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 33% Intellectual Chemistry Rating)

Coming in at #8 on this list is Choni. This charming couple racked up an average 54% Overall Chemistry Rating. As a result, in large, the chemistry between Cheryl and Toni is deemed to be average. I believe the specific reason why they work professionally well together, despite their average chemistry rating, is the undeniable fact that Madeleine Petsch and Vanessa Morgan are very close in real life and are best friends. That adds to the comfort level of their on-screen relationship. I do think Choni could have used some better development for their relationship so that it would come across as forced. The one key area in which Choni does produce a very excellent and solid score is rightfully the Physical Chemistry Rating. Choni raked up a remarkable 85% Physical Chemistry Rating accurately indicating that they have strong physical, sexual compatibility and chemistry. For this sufficient reason, Choni looks physically good together, and they assuredly have great sexual chemistry. The key areas where Choni appears to be lacking are unabashedly the Emotional Chemistry (43% Emotional Chemistry Rating) and Intellectual Chemistry (33% Intellectual Chemistry Rating) areas. The negative score for their Emotional Chemistry Rating is a little bit concerning because, in direct comparison, they do undoubtedly have excellent palpable physical chemistry. But a long-lasting romantic union can’t merely depend on physical and sexual chemistry to survive. There naturally has to be some emotional depth and meaningful connection. Otherwise, a relationship based on physical chemistry is bound to get together quickly and burn out just as quickly. It genuinely seems that in terms of Choni’s low Emotional Chemistry Rating, Choni experiences a similar issue that Veggie suffers. Both Veggie and Choni provide excellent Physical Chemistry scores (Veggie scored a massive 96% Physical Chemistry Rating.) but they both lack in the Emotional Chemistry department. Finally, the other area where Choni abundantly shows weakness and the critical area which is the lowest overall rating for Choni is the Intellectual Chemistry area. With a below-average score in this area, it can be assumed that Choni doesn’t click on an intellectual or mental level. For all one knows it’s because intellectually, they are incredibly different. Cheryl may be more book smart (This is a girl that proclaims a perfect 4.0 GPA at school.) while Toni is more street smart. Though Cheryl and Toni’s differing types of intelligence and intellect may naturally appear to complement each other in reality, there's the possibility of ideological clashes between them in these areas. Still, their overall chemistry rating is not as bad as it appears. Choni nonetheless remains a remarkably significant pairing for good LGBT+ representation on Riverdale.

#7. Cheronica (56% Overall Chemistry Rating, 85% Physical Chemistry Rating, 78% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 05% Intellectual Chemistry Rating; Worst Intellectual Chemistry Rating at 05% - Tied With Bughead)

Next up on the list at #7 is Cheronica. This non-canon couple has a total score of 56% Overall Chemistry Rating, which is typically considered to be an average score. I’m indeed surprised that Cheronica technically and scientifically has more chemistry than Choni, who scored a 54% Chemistry Rating. However, it appears that the chemistry ratings between Choni and Cheronica are precisely about the same with Cheronica maintaining a +2% advantage over Choni. But unlike Choni, Cheronica has a considerably higher Emotional Chemistry and Compatibility rating than Choni (a remarkably significant score of 78% Emotional Chemistry Rating). Cheronica having such a high Emotional Chemistry Rating is not surprising because their emotional and comforting scenes have always been some of the most tender and sweet moments on this show. Cheryl and Veronica may bicker a lot, and they may act like fierce rivals more than mutual friends most of the time, but they do genuinely care about each other deep down. It’s just the two of them don’t know how to express affection adequately, not only with each other but with everyone that they get close to. Because of the solid emotional moments between Cheronica, many dedicated fans have persistently advocated for their friendship to be given more moments and screen time. Cheronica has the same Physical Chemistry score as Choni at 85% Physical Chemistry Rating, accurately indicating that like Choni, Cheronica has terrific physical chemistry and aesthetically, they correctly match and look good together. The exclusive area which Cheronica fails spectacularly is the Intellectual Chemistry area. They only scored a ghastly 5% Intellectual Chemistry Rating, and they are tied with Bughead for the worst score in this area. Cheronica may not be compatible intellectuals because they are both manipulative, cunning and calculating people and that may undoubtedly cause a severe clash. They might be too similar in this specific regard. Two wicked cunning and manipulative people can make for a disastrous clash. Because of the reasonably high Emotional Chemistry and Physical Chemistry Ratings for Cheronica, it’s understandable why there’s respectively a sizeable portion of the fandom that ships Cheronica and even favors them over Choni.

#6. Archosie (60% Overall Chemistry Rating, 20% Physical Chemistry Rating, 71% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 89% Intellectual Chemistry Rating; Worst Physical Chemistry Rating at 20%)

Coming in at #6 and midway on this rankings list is Archosie. This young couple has a decent 60% Overall Chemistry Rating, which is typically considered to be bordering on above average. For me personally. I genuinely think Archie and Josie are cute together and they genuinely seem to have reasonably lovely chemistry. But graciously according to the official ratings, Archosie lacks physical chemistry, merely receiving a subpar 20% Physical Chemistry Rating. With such a low physical chemistry score, Archosie doesn’t have an established connection or relationship based on erotic desire, sexual chemistry, palpable chemistry, lust or burning passion. Practically, this is both a good thing and a bad thing for Archosie. It’s a positive in Archosie’s favor because it proves that their relationship and connection have nothing to do with just lust and sex. Their relationship or connection is considerably deep and based on emotional chemistry and connection. Archosie lacking physical chemistry or a physical connection is fitting for their relationship because with what we have seen with them so far, they inevitably have a strong kinship and emotional bond through their shared love of music and their struggles. Archie and Josie’s profound connection is undoubtedly about showing each other love and emotional support during the harsh times, and this was highlighted in 3x11 and 3x12 especially. On the other hand, Archosie lacking an excellent physical chemistry score may represent a negative thing in their favor, because it means that Archie and Josie may not have much physical or sexual attraction to each other. However, what Archosie lacks in the Physical Chemistry area they actively make up for in the Emotional Chemistry and Intellectual Chemistry areas. Archosie obtains a reliable 71% Emotional Chemistry Rating. It means that on an emotional basis, Archie and Josie have a solid emotional bond and they intuitively understand each other rather well. Archie and Josie are enjoying a considerably more profound emotional connection over a physical connection fit with what we've seen of their potential relationship so far. Archie and Josie have emotionally bonded with each other lately which has instantly brought them closer together. Josie was ostensibly the one who was there to thoughtfully provide emotional support and comfort after Archie underwent so much suffering and profound trauma. On the other hand, Archie was genuinely the notable one to sufficiently show Josie support in her active pursuit of a musical career at Juilliard. When Josie didn’t make it into Juilliard as she'd desperately hoped, Archie was there to comfort her as a concerned friend. These critical moments between Archie and Josie solidify them having good Emotional Compatibility and Chemistry Rating. An essential addition to having an excellent Emotional Chemistry, Archosie additionally has an outstanding 89% Intellectual Chemistry Rating. With such a high score and favorable rating in this area, Archie and Josie mentally connect very well. Their Intellectual Compatibility Rating is their highest score out of all the regions including Physical, Emotional and Intellectual Chemistry. Archosie producing a high score intellectually shows that Archie and Josie challenge, complement or naturally stimulate each other on a mental and intellectual level. Their shared love of creative music and their common passion for expressive singing could play a massive part in their strong intellectual compatibility. Overall, Archosie’s 60% Overall Chemistry Rating is respectively a decent enough score. However, despite a decent overall chemistry rating, I justly fear that Archosie may be slightly lacking in proper development considering how fast they happened. But Archosie beating out some of the other popular couples on this exclusive list like Choni, Bughead, and Veggie (all couples that have received significantly more concentrated attention and screen time than Archosie purportedly has) is undoubtedly a considerable accomplishment. Kudos to Archosie!

#5. Beronica (65% Overall Chemistry Rating, 96% Physical Chemistry Rating, 85% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 14% Intellectual Chemistry Rating)

At #5 on this list is Beronica. This canonical friendship scored a 65% Overall Chemistry Rating. Beronica’s chemistry rating is above average and is admittedly a reasonably decent, solid score. About their Physical Chemistry score, Beronica undoubtedly did exceptionally well in this area. Beronica scored a superb, massive 96% Physical Chemistry Rating! This rating powerfully suggests that Beronica is an excellent physical match and if they were a canon LGBT couple, they would have very excellent sexual and physical chemistry. Out of all of their ratings, Beronica scored the highest in the Physical Chemistry area. Though this high Physical Chemistry Rating is considered impressive, one has to be concerned that having such a physical relationship would cause them to be a purely sexual couple. Beronica's Physical Chemistry Rating beats out the other F/F couples on this list who additionally had solid Physical Chemistry Ratings including Choni (85% Physical Chemistry Rating) and Cheronica (also 85% Physical Chemistry Rating like Choni). However, even though Beronica does have an exceptionally high Physical Chemistry score (coming in only second to Barchie), Beronica scored a very outstanding 85% Emotional Chemistry Rating. It proves that despite Beronica's strong physical, sexual chemistry (again, if they were a canon romantic couple), Beronica would have a profound, emotional connection. So, they would have a strong emotional bond to help balance out their high physical connection, and it would give their relationship more balance so that it wouldn't be so heavily dependent on sexual and physical desire. Even now, as a platonic duo (which is what they are canonical), Beronica has excellent emotional scenes together and much of this is due to the high Emotional Chemistry Rating between Camila Mendes and Lili Reinhart. Unfortunately, the writers of this show have seemingly and conveniently forgotten that Betty and Veronica are supposed to be best friends and that their friendship is one of the most iconic and legendary friendships in comic book history. They have shamefully neglected this friendship since season 3 (the current season). Due to the fundamental lack of Beronica friendship scenes this season, there hasn’t been an opportunity to see Betty and Veronica have those deep, emotional friendship scenes where they discuss their problems and bond as friends. It’s unfortunate that the writers have forgotten about Beronica’s iconic friendship in addition to other vital friendships on this show such as Jarchie, Chosie, Barchie, etc. The show is focusing strictly on the romances (Choni, Veggie, Varchie, Bughead) instead of important friendships like Beronica and Jarchie. It is such a cruel shame because Beronica and their (friendship) chemistry beat out quite a few of the romantic relationships such as Choni, Bughead, and Veggie. Although Beronica assuredly has very excellent Emotional and Physical Chemistry scores, Beronica shows significant weakness in the Intellectual Chemistry area. Beronica scored an awful 14% Intellectual Chemistry Rating. This score is surprising to me because Betty and Veronica are both brilliant girls and you would think their minds and their brains would connect positively. However, I think that Betty and Veronica have different kinds of intellect and intelligence. Veronica is more logical, manipulative, street smart and popular culture savvy while Betty is more scholarly, academic, and book smart. These two distinct types of intelligence may clash. Generally speaking, Beronica typically has genuine chemistry between them and because of this, it’s not a real surprise that so many fans supported or shipped this pairing at the official start of the series. Viva Beronica!

3rd RUNNER UP

#4. Varchie (67% Overall Chemistry Rating, 68% Physical Chemistry Rating, 53% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 79% Intellectual Chemistry Rating)

Next on the list at #4 is Varchie. This long-suffering couple has a decent 67% Overall Chemistry Rating, beating out Beronica by just+2%. Looking earnestly at Varchie’s satisfactory ratings and composed scores for the critical areas of Physical Chemistry, Emotional Chemistry, and Intellectual Chemistry, it appears as though Varchie is one of those "middle of the road" type of romantic relationships. Their chemistry rating is above average, but it’s nothing outstanding or exceptional. Their highest score is undoubtedly in the Intellectual Chemistry area, tallying up a 79% Intellectual Chemistry Rating. It makes sense that they would have the highest intellectual rating because though Veronica is an intelligent, logical girl for the majority of the time, she does make some irrational, illogical and irresponsible decisions just like Archie does, and she does share that in common with him. The next superior rating for Varchie is their Physical Chemistry rating. They scored a reliable 68% Physical Chemistry Rating which is not surprising because out of all the active couples on Riverdale, Varchie is typically the most physical couple. Regrettably, as I mentioned in my Anti-Varchie master post, Varchie lacks that spark that requires them to be an ultra hot couple. They ordinarily have a 68% Physical Chemistry Rating which is carefully considered to be an above average score. The reason I debated that Varchie lacked sexual and romantic chemistry is that for a couple that is of their standards (meaning a couple intended to be sexual and lustful and filled with tons of passion), Varchie is lukewarm in that area. Interesting enough, Varchie shares the same Physical Chemistry rating with Bughead, both having a 68% score or rating in this vital area. The one area where Varchie naturally lacks or is average is the Emotional Chemistry area. Varchie only received an ordinary 53% Emotional Chemistry Rating. It is because of their mediocre Emotional Chemistry rating why Varchie’s emotional and intimate scenes continually fall flat for me and why I have a difficult time feeling anything substantial during their emotional moments. I argue that Varchie is the most boring couple on the show next to Bughead and it fits adequately considering that the considerable majority of the areas in their chemistry test, especially the Physical and Emotional Chemistry areas, are mediocre and nothing outstanding or exceptional. Varchie remains just a very average couple. They aren't the worst but aren't the best either, just very average. It sufficiently shows in their overall 67% Chemistry Rating. At the minimum, they handily beat Bughead on the rankings list, so that’s considered to be a remarkable achievement or a point in their favor over Bughead, I guess?

2nd RUNNER UP

#3. Falice (74% Overall Chemistry Rating, 85% Physical Chemistry Rating, 43% Emotional Chemistry Rating, 93% Intellectual Chemistry Rating)

Coming in at #3 is Falice. This tumultuous on-and-off struggling couple raked in a substantial 74% Overall Chemistry Rating. The fact that Falice produces this good of a chemistry score is not surprising to me. I’ve always believed that Falice naturally has some of the most robust on-screen chemistry out of all the canon Riverdale couples. Diving into the Physical Chemistry, Emotional Chemistry and Intellectual Chemistry ratings for Falice, they score excellently in the Emotional Chemistry and Intellectual Chemistry areas. Falice undoubtedly has a very excellent 85% Physical Chemistry Rating. It is not a genuine surprise because Falice maintains some of the most exceptional physical and sexual tension between two characters and that is in part to the on-screen chemistry between Skeet Ulrich and Madchen Amick. Falice’s physical and sexual chemistry is so strong and potent that they don’t even have to touch or get physical with each other for there to be that sexual desire and passion emitting from their scenes. The following area in which Falice had an excellent score was overwhelmingly the Intellectual Chemistry area. Falice had an outstanding score of 93% Intellectual Chemistry Rating. It means that FP and Alice (more like Skeet and Madchen) assuredly have great intellectual chemistry together and they work effectively together on a rational basis. The area in which Falice receives a standard score is the Emotional Chemistry area. Falice earned a measly 43% Emotional Chemistry Rating. This lacking score indeed surprised me because I thought that Falice would secure a deeper emotional connection, but then I merely remembered that Falice has always had more of a physical and sexual connection than an emotional one. So Falice possessing a stronger Physical Chemistry score over an Emotional Chemistry score is very fitting for them and their relationship. Regardless, Falice is one of the worthiest couples on Riverdale judging by their great on-screen chemistry. The proof that this couple possesses some of the strongest on-screen chemistry is indicative of their near ideal and solid overall chemistry score. Also, it proves Falice is the real deal and that Bughead should crash and burn and stop existing all together because Bughead will never have half the organic chemistry that Falice undoubtedly does. Sorry Jughead and Betty, but your respective parents remain a better couple than you and a scientific test that bluntly tells chemistry and compatibility ratings (aka the chemistry test) supports this critical fact!

Coming in at #2 on this list and sealing the runner-up spot for the overall best chemistry rating is Barchie. Barchie enthusiastically received an excellent score of 75% Overall Chemistry Rating, beating out Falice by just +1%. Not only are Barchie the runner-up couple for best overall chemistry score but out of all the Riverdale couples on this rankings list, Barchie graciously received the highest or best Physical Chemistry rating and the highest or best Emotional Chemistry rating. Barchie scored a whopping 99% Physical Chemistry Rating! Barchie is the only couple on this list that comes close to having a near perfect 100% score in the Physical Chemistry area. By possessing such an exceptionally high and outstanding Physical Chemistry score, this means that Barchie is extremely sexually and physically compatible. Shall Barchie progressively become a canon romantic couple in the foreseeable future, their intimate and erotic scenes are handsomely bound to be sizzling, hot, steamy and intense! 🔥  In  addition to Barchie producing a severe, potent sexual tension (Due to KJ Apa and Lili Reinhart achieving such an exceptionally high rating in the Physical Chemistry area), it indicates that Archie and Betty are physically ideal for each other and they would provide an outstanding physical and aesthetic match for each other. Barchie having such a high Emotional Chemistry Rating of an impressive 94% indicates a genuine true love connection and soulmate match between Archie and Betty. In other words, Barchie producing such an extraordinary Emotional Chemistry Rating is a clear sign or indication that Barchie is true soulmates, maybe even Twin Flames (which is an unusual, rare type of soulmate connection). Also, pairings or couples with such a high Emotional Chemistry such as Barchie's may develop or form a strong empathic, telepathic, or psychic bond and connection between the two of them due to the emotional relationship being so incredibly intense, deep and passionate. I'm a bit surprised by this because I thought that Betty's brains and intelligence would serve to benefit Archie. Since Archie is known not to be the smartest and most logical character, Betty being the brainiac could prove to be beneficial for Archie. Unfortunately, Barchie's mediocre Intellectual Chemistry Rating negates this fact. It is the Intellectual Chemistry score which lowers Barchie’s overall chemistry rating. If Barchie had a higher Intellectual Chemistry rating, there's a considerable chance they would claim the #1 spot on this rankings list. But unfortunately, they have to settle for the #2 and runner up spot on this list. Going by Barchie’s overall chemistry ratings, especially the highly favorable ratings for the Emotional Chemistry and Physical Chemistry areas (which are arguably considered to be most important), Barchie severely needs to become canon romantically on the show sooner rather than later. If the writers don’t utilize the strong overall chemistry (primarily the palpable physical and emotional chemistry) between KJ Apa and Lili Reinhart, it will amply prove to be one of the worst executive writing mistakes in Riverdale history.

Furthermore, this is not a profound shock to me that Jeronica has such an excellent chemistry score because I’ve been arguing this fact for a long time going back to Season 1. In my candid opinion, Cole Sprouse and Camila Mendes arguably have the best and strongest on-screen chemistry out of all the couples, canon and non-canon, on Riverdale. Even though Jeronica isn’t romantically established canon and is currently at frenemies turned friends phase in their complex relationship, Jeronica manages to produce healthy amounts of sexual chemistry and palpable sexual tension in their scenes. Though Jeronica (more like Cole and Camila) don’t have many scenes together or typically interact all that much on this show, every single time that they do, their scenes are always fascinating, compelling, interesting and memorable. Scenes between Jeronica are always intriguing, and their overall high chemistry rating proves this. When it pertains to all of the crucial areas in the test including Emotional Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Intellectually Chemistry Ratings, Jeronica's (and by extension, Cole and Camila) ratings are excellent and outstanding across the board. Let’s start with Jeronica's Physical Chemistry Rating. Jeronica scored a very excellent 85% Physical Chemistry Rating. With such an outstanding score in this key area, Jeronica has very potent, strong and insatiable sexual chemistry and apparent strong sexual desire between their characters. Active fans mentioning that Jeronica’s rare interactions and poignant scenes have heaps of sexual tension are certainly not wrong. Cole and Camila naturally have that palpable, tangible on-screen sexual chemistry and one can see it and feel it. The sexual chemistry isn’t just visible when Cole and Camila are commonly portraying Jughead and Veronica respectively. It's just as noticeable when they're portraying other characters apart from their original characters such as when they portrayed FP Jones and Hermione Gomez during the flashback episode "The Midnight Club" (3x04). It proves that regardless of what characters Cole and Camila are portraying, their strong chemistry and the sexual tension between them will always be present. The chemistry would still exist between them even if their characters aren’t intended to have sexual or romantic undertones. Due to Jeronica undoubtedly having such a high Physical Chemistry score, Jeronica is bound to have some very hot, sexy, steamy, sizzling, and intense erotic and intimate scenes shall Jeronica ever become a canonically romantic couple in the foreseeable future. Jeronica purportedly has such great chemistry that they don’t even need to touch each other physically. Jeronica can show off just how strong their chemistry is by simply glancing at each other or looking steadfastly at each other from across a room. Moving onto Jeronica’s Emotional Chemistry score, Jeronica graciously received a marvelous 78% Emotional Chemistry Rating! With such a great score in this key area, Jeronica would not only enjoy an intense physical and sexual relationship, but they would efficiently produce a solid and excellent emotionally intimate relationship. Jeronica would undoubtedly have a powerful and intense emotional connection and bond if the writers gave them a chance. During emotional, intimate moments, Jughead and Veronica would be able to deliver during these types of moments. It is due to the high emotional compatibility and chemistry between the two actors. In other words, their emotional scenes would be satisfyingly touching because of their high Emotional Chemistry rating. Lamentably, the writers have failed spectacularly to properly produce scenes and interactions where Jughead and Veronica can show off their strong, emotional chemistry on-screen. The reason for this is that the writers genuinely seem to be unmotivated in writing these types of dynamic interactions between Jeronica because they are much too hung up on the original “Core Bore” couples of Bughead and Varchie instead of exploring other possibilities and expanding their horizons on the romantic and even platonic front. However, admittedly, the writers have stepped up recently in writing better scenes between Jughead and Veronica. It was seen in the episode 3x11 (The Red Dahlia), primarily during their final scene together in that episode. Jughead and Veronica’s Emotional Chemistry is seen in how they look at each other, how they speak to each other and how the two of them interact when they are in the same vicinity. Non-Jeronica shippers may be prejudice to noticing or acknowledging these subtle touches between these two characters. However, it's not because those touches and moments between Jeronica don't exist. It’s because those people have willingly chosen not to see it and to turn a blind eye to real chemistry intentionally. They may do so for many reasons, such as they may ship something different (i.e., Bughead, Veggie, Varchie), are indifferent towards shipping in general, or they hate the pairing for no particular reason. Finally, the specific area in which Jeronica received the highest score overall was unquestionably the Intellectual Chemistry area. Jeronica rapturously received a perfect, ideal 100% Intellectual Chemistry Rating! With this score, it instantly makes Jeronica not only the Riverdale couple with the highest and best overall chemistry rating out of all the canon and non-canon Riverdale couples but the couple with the best and highest Intellectual Chemistry Rating out of all the Riverdale couples on this list. Jeronica achieving such a high score in this area means they would be extremely intellectual compatible. Their intellectual capabilities would likely complement or suit each other greatly. Intellectually speaking, Jeronica is undoubtedly a perfect and ideal match in every way! Jeronica possessing an exemplary score in the Intellectual Chemistry area is not a shock because to me, these two characters are traditionally the most intellectual and knowledgable characters in the series. They are intensely knowledgable about a variety of broad topics and subjects, and they share many interests and hobbies in common. They both share a deep love and appreciation for certain things such as pop culture, literature, music, and film. Out of all the Riverdale couples, Jeronica has the most in common when it comes to interests and hobbies. Not only that, but Jeronica has many striking similarities and parallels when it comes to their story arcs and journeys, personalities, beliefs, values, personal experiences and family backgrounds. “I’d sure know it if Sarah Cunningham did, though.” Bucky grinned, struck by the memory. “That gal really knew what she was doing.”

5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?

I have never been a superly monofannish person, and I have written for a fair number of fandoms, but discounting fandoms that I was assigned for fic exchanges I have written for Gundam Wing, Fullmetal Alchemist, Escaflowne, Mighty Ducks, Inuyasha, City Hunter, Dawson’s Creek, Avatar the Last Airbender, Sailor Moon, Ouran High School Host Club, Eureka Seven, Steven King’s IT/IT (2017), V (2009) and due to my one lone Beronica Fic, I guess you can say I have technically written for Riverdale. About a month ago I orphaned a lot of my older works because they had become a bit incongruous with what I want attached to my name, so not all of those fandoms are still present on my AO3.

Fandoms that I’ve written exclusively for Yuletide as my main assignment are:  Soul Eater, Diana Wynne Jones’ Archer’s Goon, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Claymore, Drive Me Crazy, and Notting Hill.

8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?

Well this is a fun story, but it is sort of a set of factors that brought me to watch an old 90s teen soap opera in this the year of 2018/2019. I should start by saying back when I was a part of the actual target demo for teen shows I only watch Buffy and didn’t deign to watch any of those other inferior teen shows and actually counted not being a weekly viewer of Dawson’s Creek as a point of pride. (It was very much one of those “I’m not like those other girls” nonsense attitudes, oh bb!Kristen you stupid, stupid girl). I did however osmose certain things about the show because at that time, you just sort of did. So how did I go back and actually watch this show well….

The first factor was that in the back half of 2017 I had the weirdest dream, where I literally dreamed the plot of my current WIP Boy Problems for Disney’s The Mighty Ducks which I had not seen or thought of in years (God told Joan of Arc to save France, God tells me to write steamy obscure dudeslash fic, Thanks God!). 

The 2nd Factor was that in like October of 2017, I watched Riverdale which I binged and then kept through to the winter finale of season 2 and then 5 months later thinking I was free (spoiler: I was not in fact free) and I started sort of following it and now I am here sort of following it week to week, but mostly mocking it while dreaming of my super gay alternative, and being increasingly annoyed with the fandom’s tendencies to make superficial comparisons to other show, a fandom trend I have always hated and that harkens back to Zutara fandom in ATLA (Zutara is not 1xr or Van/Hitomi, thanks). 

And the third factor was that way back in like July or August or some time there was a clickbait article that was basically TV shows characters that should have ended up with someone else/wrong endgame pairings which I clicked mostly because I wanted to see what they wrote about the How I Met Your Mother finale (I love reading takes on the HIMYM finale, I find it fascinating) and well the clickbait article stated that Dawson/Joey should have been endgame. This intrigued me because it contradicted everything I had ever heard/osmosed about the show.

So I decided that I would watch it to draw my conclusions and to see if what I had heard was wrong (which I thought was a possibility because I don’t by my nature trust giant ship fandoms like PJo was back in the day, it’s something I still sort of keep to this day), and I was like I will mock it and at the very least I will be able to have ammo against stupid fandom comparisons and due to a shared actor, maybe pick up good screen caps for like a moodboard for The Fic that had now progressed from being a dream to a thing that actually exists. 

And so I started it and as God would have it, I got invested, and now find that the Clickbait article was wrong, fandom needs to shut up Bughead/Barchie/Jeronica is not like Pacey/Joey thankyouverymuch, and I can’t use caps for a mood board because I would just cry and can’t associate anything from the show with anything else. 

So that’s story about how this dumb binch got invested in Dawson’s Creek years after everyone has moved on!

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

No Joke, the first fanfic that I wrote down and then posted was a Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing crossover that was basically just a retelling of the story of Sailor Moon with added giant robots. If you are like “Please tell me it wasn’t Senshi/Pilots” I am afraid I can tell you that (The pairings were if I recall Heero/Serena, Duo/Amy (What?!), Wufei/Raye, Trowa/Lita (cause they were both tall) and Quatre/Mina (Oh Quatre sweetie, I’m so sorry)) I killed Mamoru, and Relena just didn’t exist because this was set more in the SM universe than the GW one so I just brought over the pilots. It was multi-chaptered and I wrote a chapter a day. I wrote five parts of it covering all 5 arcs of Sailor Moon. 

Yes, I was totally better than those other girls as you can see. And no, those fics no longer exist online. In my defense I was 15 years old, I had not yet realized I was a lesbian and if I were to write that story now it would be Usagi/Relena because that story would be effing amazing.

36. What’s your favourite genre to write?

I enjoy a long slice of life romcom if I’m honest. The plotting of both my longest fics (Boy Problems and Living Arrangements) are the sort of stories that i love to write and come the easiest to me. I am also partial to quiet thematic characters beats and fics that explore characters putting things back together which if I can ever get back to 1xR as a ship that inspires me, I would love to do just a slice of life romance of them paralleling and finding their way back to each other. Also just cute romcom premises are always fun.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

I am so off and on when it comes to prose. Like there are times where I can do it and I love it, and other times it’s a struggle and I have to fight from just making everything dialogue (I maintain confidence in my dialogue.)

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

I think both Boy Problems (Mighty Ducks) and Living Arrangements (Dawson’s Creek) are the most apparent clear examples of where I am right now as a writer, but they are longer and the fandoms aren’t super in anyone’s face. I would say of my shorter one-shots, Save the Last Dance (Gundam Wing) and Once Lost, Now Found (City Hunter) are the most emblematic of me as a writer and my approach to characterisation. I also every once again get into to hugely stylistic gen pieces that I generally feel very proud of like Creation in Nine Acts (Avatar the Last Airbender, a mock creation myth for the Avatarverse, written before Korra was a thing but was not meant as the literal creation myth anyways) and State of IT (IT a short vignette from IT’s point of view.

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

I don’t know if this a thing I love or hate, but I am tired of fandom’s missives of you MUST COMMENT/KUDOS on everything you read. Comments/kudos/likes/reblogs on fanworks (not just fic) are great, but I don’t think that anyone is obligated to do any of those things. I think what I would rather do than rant or gush is to say that I think if you are a creator try to at least find comfort in validation of respecting and loving your own work. Write for yourself first and foremost. I think when I let go of the need for validation was when I really allowed myself to grow and appreciate myself as a writer. I wasn’t worried about what other people would think but just if I can read this and enjoy it and allows me a little more time thinking and writing about characters that I love than I am good, and I post it as a sort of second thought for if I enjoy it there may be others (even if it is one other person). So I guess I would leave it at that. If you’re a reader, don’t worry if you don’t leave feedback, no one is owed it and you don’t have to give any if you don’t feel that you can. And if you are writer, I would urge you to focus and write for you first and foremost and treat any feedback as a sort of treat on top of the pride of knowing you saw something through.

I want Jughead to ask if the webcamming and the kiss happened before their first time having sex. And Betty not lying and admitting that she hide it on purpose. Jughead being really pissed about and telling her something about sex being intimate and should happen with comfort and trust in a relationship.

And this time i want Jughead to hear her out but also call her out on her bullshit. I want to see where he stands morally and not accept everything she is saying.

After this happens i want them to be separated and have some time alone. I want them to go in to season 3 single. I would be okay if they are buddies too. That would be cool.

I want Betty to discover that she in fact has feelings for Archie. (Because lets be honest, she forgot her feelings for him in one episode lol) We can see some flirtation going on with them.

I want Betty to discover she is not okay and that she needs help. I want her to do something for herself and look what she has done to her friends and apologize. Apologizing to Cherly about being insensitive and blackmailing her to lie on court in favor of a man who covered up his brother's murder. Also not being there for her in hard times.

Aaand apologizing to Veronica (aka. her ‘bestie’) for kissing her man and not talking to her about it. Slut-shaming her, instead of talking about why she is mad at her she blames her for her parent's actions. Overall not being a good friend. I want her to admit that she's been not a good friend. She can even say it was due to confusion about what's going on about her mental health, maybe jealousy towards her (she can even say what she feels about the kiss and actually being hesitant about if she likes him or not)

And to Kevin cause she constantly pinpointing his sexuality for some fucking reason. And using him to catfish and stuff.

I mean of course to Juggy about being a bad lying girlfriend. After the apologize Juggy would break up with her cause that's too much.

I want Jughead to realize her boo is not an angel and needs to fix herself. And realize he is also not an angel, but a hypocrite and a selfish booy who can be better imo.

 Archie and Veronica

I actually find Bughead worse than Varchie but i want Varchie to break-up like in a serious way. Because i want Veronica to be a total rebel and cross with her family. And Archie siding with Hiram I want her to be like 'yes i'm a Lodge but that doesn't mean i'm a criminal' and actually side with the Serpents or at least help them. I also want Juggy and Ronnie have 'is this a date?' kind of thing where Veronica goes public about how she had enough with her family and she is not with them anymore. And i want Juggy to eat a burger and share her chips with her.

And Archie is a big reason to the break-up cause he was very deep with the Lodge family and he lost himself. And Ronnie can see he's turning into her toxic father and she doesn't wanna be like her mother so SHE breaks up with him.

Jeronica

I want Jughead to have moment with Jeronica about how he understands that she was obviously manipulated by her parents and she was naive about them. I want him to say 'we both are naive when it comes to our parents, second common thing we have' and they both laugh. And then he softly apologizes her and she is says it's fine while looking at him funny.

I want them to talk about Betty and how she needs help and actually all together they help her.

I want them to be friends and understand they are different but also similar.

FP and Alice

I want them to be a thing in the final episode. When Jughead breaks up with Betty i want them to be a thing. I don’t want the whole ‘my dad is dating with your mom’ thing in this season. I want that to happen in season 3 so that that can use a cliffhanger in the finale that make buggies go crazy lol. A cliffhanger which Alice comes to the trailer and talk about Chic cause he’s FP’s son. And they you know kiss and maybe even more. Than later try to hide it. And Betty and Jughead learn it. The drama they break-up for good.

Cherly and Toni

What can i say they are perfect. I want them to make each other happy, which they started to do already. Cherly shouldn’t be in that house. That’s all i’m saying.

Blackhood

So, a lot of people have talked about this and i agree. I hope the Blackhood was not actually the janitor or if he was i hope he's connected to Hiram some way. I hope he was the one (or Hermonie) who did all of this because crime needs to go up and the prison plan makes sense to people in Riverdale. It would also makes sense cause than Archie would be like 'fuck that i'm out of here'. Goes to Veronica and says let's make up. And she says 'it's too late lol'

Josie and Kevin

I want them apologize to Veronica. You might think Kevin didn't do anything wrong but he was enjoying that drama. And Josie, being a back stabbing lying friend who just being a hypocrite about feminism? She was such a good character earlier what happened?

I want Kevin to find himself a goood man except Chic obviously.

And Josie with Reggie, they would be such little shits but with some decent moral codes pls thx.
