Love Oshamir but I'm not sure I quite agree with this insistence that Qimir isn't at all being manipulative because first of all, he basically kidnapped Osha. She is not in his mancave on some unknown planet in the middle of fuck-knows-where of her own freewill. Let's not forget that. Secondly, he may be honest in what he's saying to her but he for sure isn't doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He wants something from her, wants her to be something to him. He's deliberately pushing her in a specific direction to make her what he thinks she can be, what he wants her to be, to be like him. That IS manipulation.
#like i feel like we're skirting past the inherent problematic nature of their relationship#don't get me wrong it's good food and i will feast#but this is a guy who's been alive for a long time#who's been ALONE for a long time#and he desperately wants a pupil equal lover idk#so he TAKES her#and now he's gonna train her and mold her#like there's some fundamental problems here already#so lets not lose the plot#but like i said good fucking food#oshamir#osha x qimir#qimir x osha#osha aniseya#qimir#the acolyte

I didn't watch the show, how did the whole "Guy manipulation is taken as romance" thing went in the acolyte?
Oh she turned to the dark side and went with him to protect her sister, but they're also holding hands at the end in a way that actually holds the lightsaber she corrupted. I fully expect them to have a brief and toxic (pseudo-?)romance built around their own misery that ends in him doing one good thing in his life and her slitting his throat for it.
#the acolyte#the acolyte spoilers#yeah my main problem with reylo was it was a toxic romance that didn't know it#this on the other hand? this knows exactly what it's doing and i expect it to blow up in a big way#osha aniseya#qimir

The three-day [Conference on Women and the Workplace, convened in 1976] featured traditional presentations and livelier discussion periods. The medical director of Dow Chemical, Harold Gordon, fretted that his company could be held liable for discrimination if it excluded fertile women from certain high-risk jobs, and for harm to their offspring if it didn't. Dow was trying to do the right thing, Gordon said, but there were many questions: "What is the population at risk? How is it identified? What specific agents need to be considered? How are they identified? What restrictions are needed? When do they apply? To whom do they apply?" The [Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers]'s Tony Mazzocchi was unsympathetic. "There isn't a single worker, including those at Dow, who knows what the hell he works with in the first place," he said. "No industry has allowed us to look at the monitoring data.... We aren't being told what is carcinogenic or what is teratogenic. We are learning after the fact." It was the union's position, he said, that neither women nor men should have to be removed from a job to protect the unborn; "our position is to make the workplace safe for everyone." ...
For workers like Yvette Flores [whose child was born with severe intellectual disabilities after her exposure to dangerous solvents and lead-based solution in her job manufacturing lasers for Spectra-Physics], the most germane speaker was Andrea Hricko with the Labor Occupational Health Program at the University of California, Berkeley. Hricko had been investigating, with growing alarm, the electronics industry, which then employed some 271,000 workers in the United States. More than three-quarters of these workers were women, she said, and many were "nonwhite. A higher percentage do not speak English. And few of them are organized." Hricko said she'd heard from some California workers that "dark-skinned women, including Filipinos, Chicanos and Blacks, are often assigned to certain departments in electronics plants where chemicals are used that cause skin rashes. This is done because the skin rashes are not as obvious on the dark skin and, therefore, the workers don't complain as much as the company doesn't have to deal with the complaints." Some plants didn't allow languages other than English to be spoken, "even in departments where the majority of women are non-English-speaking," Hricko said. Intimidation was common. Women in one Silicon Valley plant who'd prepared a warning leaflet on trichloroethylene "had to leave copies of it in the women's rest room so that the male management people would not snatch the copies away."
Jim Morris, Cancer Factory: Industrial Chemicals, Corporate Deception, and the Hidden Deaths of American Workers (2024), Chapter 20
#workplace safety#chemical safety is a huge problem & it has not been resolved! mazzocchi said that before we passed right-to-know laws#but those laws are difficult to enforce & many workers are still primarily told brand names for chemicals#or are not given the appropriate information to assess their own safety. the real problem of course is that you cannot make safety choices#when you are deciding between nebulous chemical exposure risk & losing your job! disclosure is insufficient!#this is especially egregious in agriculture where pesticide & herbicide use is horrifically dangerous to workers & broader ecosystems#OSHA standards only regulate one chemical at a time after extensive & slow testing & review; efforts in the 70s to block regulate#by functional group were comprehensively shot down. so what standards we do have are fifty years out of date & many newer compounds#are functionally unregulated. OSHA itself says this & refers people to NIOSH & the state of california!

Okay, enough of my ranting about the finale, here's how i think Season 2 can improve the cover up bullshit:
We all know that my least favourite TCW arc is The Wrong Jedi, which featured the main character, Ahsoka Tano, being framed of crimes that, on paper, are very similar to The Acolyte, specifically in regards to multiple Jedi being killed by another suspected Jedi. In this arc, the Jedi start off by keeping the Senate out of it as much as possible, which isn't a lot, given that there were Republic soldiers killed as well, very similar to Vernestra in most of the season. However, eventually, the Jedi, convinced by the evidence against Ahsoka, agree to turn her over to the Senate
Now let me be clear, my problems with this arc are 1) ruining Barriss' character by turning her (a Muslim coded character, btw) into a terrorist and 2) having Anakin (and, to a lesser extent, Padmé) abandon Ahsoka after she leaves; i do NOT have a problem with the Jedi or Ahsoka's actions during this arc as both parties were backed into impossible decisions
To my main point, if this show goes to a second season, i can see them using Vernestra's coverup as a way to highlight that the Jedi did the right thing in TCW
Especially since the popular belief is that the Council should've done then what Vernestra did here
#that said#i will still have HUGE problems with what this finale did with Sol and Osha respectively#acolyte spoilers#the acolyte#star wars#vernestra rwoh#yoda#mace windu#ahsoka tano#master sol#star wars tcw#the wrong jedi

Every live-action Star Wars show when it comes time to stick the landing:

Yo Star Wars. How come the only Black man on the show had his neck snapped in full view of the camera while all the nonblack characters got bloodless lightsaber stabs? How come Black characters always die violently?
#when I tell you I was so mad at that#like i knew Yord was probably going to die the instant he and Osha came back. but not like that#this is like a really persistent problem in media too#shows that for all the ‘diversity’ in the Acolyte it’s still fucking Disney.#if I’m overstepping with this please tell me I am white I’m just really pissed#star wars#is this the original post tag#yord fandar#the acolyte critical#the acolyte spoilers#the acolyte star wars#the acolyte salt#the acolyte#sw the acolyte#star wars the acolyte

Agonizing over the dialogue in a scene for weeks only to realize maybe there shouldn't be a conversation at all

#every time i get stuck i get soo frustrated trying to make it work#and every time it's because it will never work#WHEN WILL I LEARN#anyway#the problem is i was thinking ooh how cool to have plagueis and qimir finally talk and you know#osha has chosen not to be a sith too#so there's technically stuff to talk about#but also ??? if they just want to kill each other why would they stand there and talk about it first ???#there's not really anything new to add...#AND#i think i can have plagueis say his part when [redacted] later#idk#at least this way i can move on#that's another thing im learning to balance too#the difference in what i might want as the reader versus what i know serves the story better as the writer#flythepost

it is a truth universally acknowledged that a ttrpg party in want of an excuse to get into a location will somehow reinvent osha
#or maybe this is just a me problem#but if i had a nickel for every time one of my parties tried to solve a problem by impersonating OSHA employees#I’d have. so many nickels.#shoutout to#fantasy osha#interstellar osha#and the ‘office of safety and health’#(they arent an administration yet)#dnd#ttrpgs#(to clarify I don’t actually see this as a problem it’s delightful)

Chronic illness experience of doing mental math around when and how to have sex and then failing miserably bc Leone or I do something that gets the other so dizzyingly, maddeningly horny and we both swear we’ll stop before actually fucking but then afterwards he’s knocking back some ibuprofen and I’m hitting up some anti-inflammatory supplements and we’re both chugging electrolytes like we’re two athletes who just finished an intense match. Good game, man. Let’s hit the showers.
#I feel like Leone would kind of have old man joints in a young body#me learning I’m hypermobile and coming home from the rheumatologist#to him sitting there like never fear tesoro… lucky for you you’re dating an old man who’s used to handling joint pain#which of course makes me laugh and remind him he’s not *actually* old but he keeps going with it to make me giggle#and he drives me to occupational therapy and I ask him to show me how to help tape or wrap his problem joints#and we just take care of each other you know?#osha keep scrolling#naughty self ships
