KAISHIN OPINION: THE SHOW WILL GO ON!

Okay, so I honestly thought that I'd lose followers for continuing to ship KaiShin which would be understandable and I wouldn't blame anyone for doing so but I've been getting notifications that I've gained a few more followers? Both on tumblr and twitter. I'm grateful, I truly am, and I thank you for wanting to stick around and go along with me on this crazy ride

I'm still a little baffled though, ngl 😅 baffled but grateful though, make no mistake

Either way, I just wanna say thanks and also for any future posts about KaiShin, either headcanons or fics, I will NOT make them cousins unless said otherwise

If i do make them cousins as to possible canon, I'll be sure to give warnings and make notes

So yeah, in my fanworks, KaiShin are NOT COUSINS nor is Toichi alive

Also, while appreciated, no need for condolences. I won't speak for other KaiShin shippers, but KaiShin has been one of my OTPs since 2004/2005 and after 20 years of shipping them, this will NOT stop me.

Shimegami-chan's fic from fanfiction.net was one of my 1st KaiShin fics I've read. And then there's yukuro's Fall of the Moon, a fic also from fanfiction.net that has been one of my faves since frickin 2006 (which I still remember the name of the fic title without actually checking my bookmarks which says a lot to how much I've loved this fic)

I can say that I'll continue on shipping them out of spite or pettiness and maybe there'll be times when I'll do just that. But honestly? I hope it'll always be out of love for KaiShin

And i hope that i can be a fan that'll always love KaiShin more than I hate aspects of what's happened in canon. I truly do hope for that

Why I like them: I fully expected this guy with his John Cena-esque go getter attitude and aggressively marketable ace to annoy the shit out of me, but the truth is is that hating Leon is like hating a puppy. You just can't. He's just a nice fuckin dude that wants to keep everyone safe even though he's just one man. There's also the fact that he's essentially a grown up ex-protagonist which the game delves into a little with his complicated emotions surrounding losing the title he's had since he was eleven by the end of the game and the fandom's done some FASCINATING psychological deep dives with. 

Why I don’t: I feel like GameFreak failed a bit with show don't tell with him. Some of the ways GameFreak try to make him seem really intelligent and capable are...a little on the nose to say the least. Like for instance him estimating how much Hop has grown during his introduction scene COULD be taken as a hint they don't get to see each other often but nah I really do suspect they wanted the kiddies to be like WOW THIS GUY IS SO SMART HE CAN DO MATH lol. I do kiiiind of suspect the fandom put more effort into analyzing the guy and the kind of havoc being a massive celebrity since the age of 11 can wreak on your personal life than GameFreak ever did but that's very much not a bad thing IMHO. I'm not one of those IF IT'S NOT STRICT CONFIRMED CANON IT'S OF THE DEVIL people (and honestly rather detest them) 

Favorite episode (scene if movie): I...don't think the Anime showcased the better sides of his personality well (he loses the protective streak and just kind of comes off like a self-absorbed manchild that everyone loves because he can defy basic Pokemon battle logic in the same way Ash can. He's a protagonist But Annoying This Time) so I'm not terribly interested in seeing more. 

Favorite season/movie: See above. 

Favorite line: Tbh I don't have one particular standout one immediately coming to mind and I'm feeling too lazy to go through his quotes page rn. His catchphrase IS fun to meme about I will say. 

Favorite outfit: He absolutely kills everything that's not the Sponsorship Cape tbh. The guy has GOOD fashion sense despite the memes, corporate was just holding him back. 

OTP: Raihan/Piers/Leon for reasons I already went into in the Raihan response lol (the vibes between him and Rai are interesting and pretty damn hard to deny but Piers is holding up 90% of my mental health on his bony little shoulders rn and also I wanna see him and Leon interact more) I'd also love he and Sonia to work thier shit out, they are cute as FUCK together in Pokespe 

Brotp: The platonic Raileon enjoyer strikes again. Id also certainly take he and Piers being bros too. Also he and Nemona would be absolutely insufferable together and I'd love to see it someday lol 

Head Canon: One thing that was inspired the anime and a certain infamous wall punching scene is that through no real fault of his own he and Raihan's relationship was actually dangerously close to fraying for a bit. He WANTS to be a good and supportive friend to his favorite person but he's gotten fame and empty adoration pretty much handed to him for long enough that he can't REALLY understand what's going on in Raihan's head, the immense pressure he's putting himself under and the frankly unhealthy behaviors he's starting to develop. It's gonna take the pressure of the championship being gone for Leon to stop being the impossible standard Raihan's harming himself with and start being an uncomplicated source of companionship again. On a brighter note he's a good enough guy that once he becomes Chairman he's gonna prove he deserves that position by taking steps to reverse Rose's power consolidation to make sure no one person can cause that much trouble for the nation of Galar again. He'll prove his worthiness to rule by NOT being a total corporate dictator. 

Unpopular opinion: I've bitched about finding him annoying in the anime enough so instead I'll say I actually don't mind how involved he was in the game plot, it's honestly kind of weird other adults HAVEN'T been like "why are we letting random ten year olds go into very dangerous situations unaccompanied" before if you think about it

A wish: The same as the others, I'd love to see him again IF he's not miserable or acting like an ass.

You know it’s an lj refugee with a title like that plus the quality of that writing. OKAY. SO. THIS IS FIVE WAYS THAT SAURON TELLS MS. GAL WHO HE IS and let me tell you this: the minute you tell me you’ve read this, I have an all caps message to yell at you because THE YELLING I DID WHILE READING THIS. first off, each scenario is incredible and so different and so fun and such genius. Secondly, this UNDERSTANDING of Sauron POV is ::shakes your shoulders:: it’s so good. THIRD. GOD. OTP. SO GOOD. Fourth. [redacted for spoilers AND YOU DON’T WANNA BE SPOILED FOR THIS. it’s so good]. Two. A man is a god in ruins, WIP (rated mature)

Have you heard of ‘em, lad? Have you heard of the king of the southlands and his queen? What if there was no reveal in Eregion and Galadriel rode back to the Southlands and badda bing badda boom agreed to be King Halbrand’s queen? Truly this is a two cakes kinda fic as others are writing this au too but you know what this bitch loves? I LOVE TWO CAKES. And it’s just!!!! LOVELY!!! And dramatic irony as king! And what a delicious fucked up romance! Absolutely swoon worthy kisses and banging on an anvil! And I just can’t wait to see where this goes!!! A very satisfying lil’ wip with a lot of promise. 

Three. Silver Queen (rated mature)

Screaming crying sliding down a wall. Do you know what theory I love best? It’s the half maia Celebrian crack theory and this fic just ::CHEF’S KISS:: gets it. ABSOLUTELY gets what makes this crack theory work, and what makes Celebrian as the daughter of the dark lord and the lady of light TICK AND GO BOOM. But most importantly it does the perfect balancing act of an exceedingly well written haladriel fic that is in character and sexy af and dark and bad romance and villainfuckery and nenya is that bffl who is like “girl no” AND AT THE SAME TIME gives you a Celebrian who is her own person, feels like a real character, feels right to the story and the concept, and is just so!!!! thrilling!!! And makes me hunger for more of her!! Also the very tip top end of this fic made me GASP. (I also so so so so much love how Celeborn is mentioned in this fic. LOVE IT.)

February Friday Event 2024 - Radio Silence (Alice Oseman)

Only one chapter is up. This is just a collection of 4 short fics that are set in post-canon of Radio Silence. They're based on the prompts from the February Friday Event. 2 of the 3 remaining chapters are partially written, but not finished. One will be about Carys and her thoughts on Universe City. The other is about friendship, but Carys and Aled are once again reminded by how badly their childhood was for them.

Ljubili se - Glee

MY BABY. This is the sequel to Ljubim te, the fic where Kurt and Blaine meet in Ljubljana. Now they're back in America and long-distance, with Blaine being in LA and Kurt in NY. My main reason for being stuck is admittedly that it's getting too ambitious and I need to figure out how to tell a coherent sequel. It's quite difficult, because Ljubim te was written without a sequel in mind and without much space to do more, but I love this world I made so here I am anyway.

Dancin' on that bamboo ceiling - Glee

A series of standalone fic that explore Asian identity and casual racism in glee. I've been working on and off on it for years and I have published some. But I really want to finish more. Right now I have a story about traditional dress and feeling removed from your heritage in my mind.

The Sarah Jane Adventures Extended Universe (SJAEU) - The Sarah Jane Adventures

Yes, my SJAEU is back on my mind. It's a spin-off of the Sarah Jane Adventures (which is in itself a Doccy Whomst spin-off) and it focuses on Luke after he left Bannerman Road and well, my unofficial title is Luke's Big Gay Oxford Adventures. The thing I posted is an overview of the AU, but I have been cooking up actual fics that are set in this AU since 2017 and they're simmering again.

After all, it must be fucking wild for Watford students to see this wacky enemy to lovers. Matty Chris D. is the blandest person you'll ever meet, which is also why I am stuck. Go Matt, give us nothing.

Untitled TOTK-inspired Snowbaz fic - Carry On

This was marinating in my brain recently. Not sure I will get back to it soon, but hey, it's on my mind! As the "title" suggests, it's a Tears of the Kingdom inspired Snowbaz fic, which takes place after Wayward Son. The gang is back from America to find floating islands in the sky of the World of Mages. 7 years after their return, and 7 years after Simon went missing, Baz decides to find a way to the sky islands in order to find Simon. I don't wanna brag, but this idea slaps and I should get back to it.

Glee x Sense8 crossover idea - Glee and Sense8

I came up with a Glee x Sense8 crossover years ago and this is also back again on my mind. Just like the SJAEU, it's more of a concept with some overall thoughts than an actual coherent fic. It's back in my 2024 vision because, hey, I posted the SJAEU, I could possible post my Glee x Sense8 AU on AO3, because I think it's pretty cool. And yes, it's a crossover, not an inspired by thing. The Glee part is entirely an AU, but the Sense8 part is post-canon where the BPO has reformed, so that the sensates can figure out their shit in peace. And also, Puck from Sense8 will show up at one point. Two Pucks in one fic (because Puck from Glee is one of the sensates).

Anyway I have many more WIPs, like the Zimbits time travel one, or the Glee x Carry On crossover (begone Klaine and Snowbaz, Blaz OTP!) and UGH so many WIPs. If you wanna send me an ask about any of these WIPs, feel free.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? i SHOULD. I don't always. I just feel... shy? awkward? i feel like a kid discussing their powerpoint. I reply if i have something to say. but i do thank people who leave comments on rarepair fics because i'm just so happy to meet another fellow shipper. And also heartfelt comments like people who survived horrible things and see themselves in the characters, I reply to those.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

So you can sleep. Reader-Y/N is left heartbroken and watchers of the movies know the man is on his way to becoming a serial killer. My other fics i would say are either bittersweet, or have a glimmer of hope, for the characters or their world.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Love is a stranger ends on a happy note, but with troubled times ahead (the death of Edward VI, the re-catholicisation of England, the illness of Don Carlos). C'est la petite vie has a depressing beginning but bounces its way chaotically to a happy ending.

8. Do you get hate on fics? I don't write for popular ships, so i guess i don't get enough hits to find haters. Like if you read a rarepair, 99% chance you searched for that ship. And i'm a zealous tagger of dark content! The bookmark of 2/5 tho... I'd have preferred a comment saying what they liked and didn't like (because i still got a kudos and a bookmark so what gives????)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I dooooooooooo. My darkfic pseud for E, my main pseud doesn't go higher than M. I find smut a challenge to write, so I use it as an inciting incident or to explore a state of mind or a need. (Grief, guilt, power, anger, love).

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I have as a teenager on FFN.net. But I'm not a big crossover person. But i wrote a song Do You Wanna Be My Ally? To the tune of Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? There's no incentive to steal rarepair fic. It'll only get you attention from like... 4 people. and those 4 people have probably read the original ANYWAY.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? My first OTP was Lupin/Tonks. They're how i discovered the existence of fanfic. But my all-time OTP is Jane/Rochester. Other ships wax and wane, but my enthusiasm for those two is constant.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have unfinished WIPs on my teenage FFN.net account, because i didn't know what ending i wanted. But i usually write oneshots. I have a WIP for a gothic novel that has been on the backburner for like 6 years. But one day I hope it'll reveal itself to me.

16. What are your writing strengths? I've been told I write fear and panic well. Which is good. Also comedy. Almost always a little bit of that in there. Also readers enjoy the characters, so that too.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Let's ask the reader who gave me 2 stars transitional scenes. starting and ending the scene. setting the scene. I'm not big on description and location. I'm a dialogue-heavy writer, so if the dialogue isn't working for you.... Godspeed, reader.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Nah, i just say what language the characters are speaking in. But some of my chapter titles are in different languages.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter because i was a spotty kid with braces.

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written? Usually the fic I'm writing at the time is my favourite. My longer fics like C'est la petite vie and Love is a stranger have a special place in my heart.

But I suppose the ultimate fanfic crown must go to Turn your back on the Hanging Tree, because it was a dusty old 80k word clumsy fanfic from my teen years that I cared about enough to rewrite as a 17k word oneshot. Murder, desire, women, scheming, BLOOD- all my favourite things.

considering it started out so painfully, it was overall a fun episode! kind of cracky but still dealing with the main plot. and not pushing the awkward humor buttons nearly as much as they did in the earlier seasons

to be perfectly honest i've got writer's block BAD at the minute so i'm sort of not working on much of anything atm! january 2022 i took a big month-long break from posting and am probably going to do the same again this year (save for AM AU because that's already finalised)

the ones i've been particularly focused on lately are:

a very big very dark febuwhump fic that ties together all the prompts into a big long horrible narrative (which will be posted anon to a) avoid spamming folks with daily updates and b) to avoid getting fucking murdered in case people can't read tags)

comparatively a much nicer "there was only one bed" fic set in the immediate post-canon because shockingly, i have never written a take on the "i charge a steep fee/i'd like to make a downpayment" scene
