she's an adopt i bought from @strawberryitzi on kofi a while back, and while i haven't drawn her much i am SO in love with her;;; i didn't super care for my first attempts at drawing her, but i revisited that doodle page recently and tried again. here she is!! i added a few things to her design and used her for some shading practice. i definitely plan on drawing her more, but i also like the idea of using her periodically to test out new shading or coloring methods!

LIKE NIGHT AND DAY: A TS3 LEGACY CHALLENGE

Hello y’all! I am back with a different sort of legacy challenge compared to my usual nostalgic-ish challenges. This legacy is eight generations, each based upon a specific time of day, from midnight to nighttime. I tried to add both good and bad traits to the sims for some unique and interesting gameplay. I’ve also added sims badges that are entirely optional to complete for each gen (I just like collecting badges myself lol). Each generation has a unique color palette that you can follow if you want. The google doc even has images of the palettes for visualization. I highly recommend checking out the google doc for better formatting on desktop, too. You'll need most EPs (except maybe Into the Future). Store content is referenced, but none of it is necessary. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to reach out. Generation 1: MIDNIGHT - BURNING THAT MIDNIGHT OIL

Midnight marks the beginning and ending of each day. It is the transition time from one day to the next. It is a symbol of new beginnings, potential, self-reflection, secrets, the unknown and transformation.

Generation 2: THE WITCHING HOUR - THE WITCHING HOUR IS AT HAND

The witching hour is a time of night associated with supernatural events as well as the appearance and amplification of power of witches, ghosts and demons. Tends to include the time between 3AM and 4AM. 

Traits: Brooding, Heavy Sleeper, Loner, Mean-Spirited, Supernatural Fan Career: Fortune Teller or Ghost Hunter  Lifetime Wish: Zombie Master Lifetime Rewards: Alpha Wolf/Immortal/Magic Hands Aesthetic Colors: Purple, Black and Grey

Goals:

Max the logic and alchemy skills 

Become a “creature of the night”: a witch, werewolf or vampire

Dawn marks the beginning of twilight before sunrise as indirect sunlight is scattered throughout Earth’s atmosphere. Dawn is associated with illumination, hope and happiness. 

Traits: Angler, Eco-Friendly, Hopeless Romantic, Loves the Outdoors, Technophobe Career: Angler or Gardener (Self-Employed) Lifetime Wish: Bottomless Nectar Cellar  Lifetime Rewards: Super Green Thumb  Aesthetic Colors: Light Pink, Light Orange, Light Blue

Goals:

Be a twin; live with your twin for your entire life (Dusk).

Generation 4: MORNING - GOOD MORNING, SUNSHINE

Morning is the period from sunrise until noon, and is associated with breakfast, the start of a new day, and fresh starts. 

Traits: Ambitious, Disciplined, Friendly, Good, Proper  Career: Business or Military  Lifetime Wish: Martial Arts Master or Physical Perfection  Lifetime Rewards: Meditative Trance Sleep, Extra Creative Aesthetic Colors: Beige, Light Yellow, and Peach  

Goals:

Max the photography, athletic and martial arts skills

Complete three photography collections

Reach martial arts tournament level 3 regardless of lifetime wish chosen 

Try to jog or bike everywhere

Pantone: Colours of the Year Challenge (Sims 4)

Hi! This was a creative exercise that I decided to turn into a silly little challenge. Enjoy!

You may follow the standard legacy challenge rules, or not! I aim to have fun in my game so follow the rules that are fun for you. Play any way you like: follow the order of the generations, mix or skip any you dislike/don’t have the pack/don’t want to do.

Aesthetic: feel free to use the palettes to inspire your sims’ CAS and decoration.

Partners: you may decide for your sim their romantic life (or roll a die for everything that matters to you: sexuality, lifestyle, commitment, etc), unless you would like to follow when a rule tells you to marry or romance someone in particular. You choose if, when they move in, they can bring money to the household and/or if they should quit their jobs.

Heirs: roll a random number between 1 and 4 (or 6 for maximum chaos). You may choose who the heir will be, adopted or biological.

Moving out and inheritance: you can divide the household funds among the children and use that as the money they get when they move out. For example, if your household funds are 3,000 simoleons and you have two children, each child gets 1,500 simoleons. Alternatively, you can decide to start over with no simoleons every generation. Feel free to use your own ideas.

Not everyone perceives colours the same way. Flex means you can replace either an aspiration or a trait with the flex option.

At the intersection of Mexico’s vibrant culinary traditions and the history of Jewish immigrants lies an astonishing palette of flavors, ingredients and cooking techniques. The interplay between these culinary worlds has birthed dishes that both challenge and complement our understanding of Mexican and Jewish cuisines, reaching far beyond the typical or stereotypical.

Mexican food is much more varied and extensive than its globally recognized icons: tacos, guacamole, fajitas and burritos. It’s informed by a mosaic of techniques and culinary fusions borne out of its rich history of immigration. The Spaniards introduced ingredients like pork and dairy, while African slaves infused Caribbean flavors. Later, French immigrants integrated their haute cuisine techniques, and the Germans brought in their brewing know-how. 

Jewish immigrants set foot on Mexican shores shortly after the Spanish colonization in the 16th century. Many of these settlers, known as conversos, crypto-Jews or silent-Jews, practiced their Jewish faith clandestinely. Yet their culinary imprints are everywhere. Sephardic buñuelos that were traditionally eaten for Hanukkah slowly evolved into crispy dough treats with cheese often eaten for Christmas; Puebla’s iconic sesame-sprinkled pan de semita (a sweet unleavened bread), hints at crypto-Jewish origins and a connection to Passover; and Monterrey’s asado de cabra lechal (oven-roasted baby goat) emerged as a discreet way for Jews to abstain from eating the widely popular roast suckling pig or cochinillo asado.

Today, approximately 40 to 50,000 Jews reside in Mexico, many in Mexico City, which emerged as the Jewish community’s beating heart in the early 1920s. The degree to which Jews embrace local cuisine while preserving traditional foods reflects their complex identity constructions, including  occidental (Ashkenazi) and oriental (of Turkish and Arabic heritage) traditions; the latter group includes a large community of Syrian Jews, divided into the Halebis from Aleppo and the Shamisfrom Damascus.

Many Jews have tailored Mexican food to adhere to kashrut (Jewish dietary laws). Thus, pork-based tacos al pastor get a twist with beef or spiced fish. In the upscale neighborhood Lomas de Chapultepec in Mexico City, for instance, Hilario’s kosher street food stand serves everything from hot dogs to laings (shredded or whole taro leaves with meat or seafood) from as early as 4 a.m. Jewish dishes became more “Mexicanized,” adopting spicy condiments and local produce. 

“My grandmothers were able to establish roots in Mexico and make it their country. They were able to weave what they brought with them, their cooking methods, knowledge and traditions with what they found in Mexico. The intersection and marriage of Jewish and Mexican culture and cuisine is natural. It’s a joyful, dynamic and very delicious blend,” said Pati Jinich, chef and one of the most important exponents of Jewish-Mexican fusion in the U.S. and Mexico.

“The culinary background of our Jewish people has always been one of blending. Combining flavors from where we came from with those we got wherever we emigrated or took refuge,” added chef Alegre Smeke.

Flavors such as tamarind, cilantro, camote (sweet potato), lime, chili peppers and local varieties of cheese and corn have blended into Mexican Jewish cuisine over the last century, often thanks to  the employment of live-in housekeepers, mostly Mexican indigenous women, who take care of the cooking, thus expanding the culinary repertoire of their Jewish employers.

Among the myriad dishes that exemplify culinary amalgamation, the Syrian lachmagin stands out. Originating from Syria as a lamb-topped flatbread, this dish, whose name translates to “dough with meat” in Arabic, journeyed with Syrian Jews to Mexico, where it underwent a remarkable transformation. While the foundation of its filling remains steeped in tradition with lamb and occasionally beef, it now bursts with the fiery addition of various chilies. The addition of cinnamon tempers this heat, and the spiced meat mixture is laid atop special soft flour wafers and folded over like a quesadilla.

“Creating these wafers is a time-consuming process,” writes Paulette Kershenovich, a researcher and academic coordinator at Reichman University.

“For that reason, younger women tend to buy ready-made Mexican flour tortillas, which are larger than corn tortillas, and cut them in half. This not only exemplifies the idea of food fusion but also underscores the culinary assimilation exhibited by the younger generation’s preference for store-bought alternatives over traditional methods.”

Tamarind is another ingredient that is widely used in both sweet and savory Mexican Jewish dishes. Syrian Jews prepare a fish stew cooked with tamarind, tahini, saffron, paprika and lime, sprinkled with parsley or pistachios. Stuffed pumpkins stuffed with ground meat and rice are often spiced with red chilies and cooked in a tamarind sauce with apricots and prunes. And Pati Jinich’s sweet-and-sour chicken with tamarind, apricot and chipotle sauce can be eaten on Shabbat and any Jewish holiday. 

But fusion isn’t restricted to savory dishes. Mexican ingredients like membrillo (quince) and piloncillo (unprocessed cane sugar) have been harmoniously incorporated into Jewish desserts like babka or rugelach, and Sephardic Mexican Jews use chilacayotes (a type of squash) and tejocotes (a small orange with black seeds) to make small sweets for the holidays, mostly Passover and Rosh Hashanah.

“The Jewish community has woven itself seamlessly into the rich culinary fabric of Mexico. The result is a beautiful interplay between generations and a bridge connecting two seemingly disparate worlds, which, when it comes to food and family, converge in the most harmonious manner,” said Pati Jinich. 

Judeo-Mexican cuisine is about more than just about food. It’s a pivotal element of cultural identity, social cohesion and community growth for Jews in Mexico, who proudly claim their dual identity and remain thankful for the opportunities they found in Latin America. Opportunities which extend beyond shelter and prosperity, but also the freedom to practise Judaism and preserve their age-old traditions.

During the 1850s Dyce became one of the few established artists to respond creatively to the aesthetic challenges presented by the young Pre-Raphaelites, and also to their hero-worship of Shakespeare. For this enormous illustration of Act III of ‘King Lear’ (an exceptional choice of subject for Dyce) he adopted the brilliant palette and meticulous figure drawing of the Pre-Raphaelites. Like Holman Hunt and Millais, he attempted to integrate figures painted in the studio into a landscape setting which was almost certainly worked up from sketches made outside.

Hello Secret Valentine! Thank you so much for your ask, and I am sorry that I am getting to it a little late!! I have actually never tried using a palette of another character as a challenge before, but now I really want to! If you have any suggestions, let me know! As for your questions, here are my answers!

What was Meredydd’s first pet?: Meredydd didn’t grow up with pets of her own, but as a young girl she always wanted a dog. I like to imagine that maybe there was a stray dog that lived around her home that she pretended was her own, even though it wasn’t. Her first pet was actually an owl! He is a barn owl and is named Cornelious. Professor Fig gifted the owl to Meredydd shortly after they met, and she absolutely loves that bird. I see Cornelious as a spoiled little thing, with a bit of a short temper, quite the opposite of his owner. If he could speak, he would greatly disapprove of Meredydd’s companionship with Sebastian because of how reckless the boy is haha! I wish it was an option in the game to have a pet with you as you make your way through the castle on your own time because Meredydd would always have Cornelious on her shoulder or take him outside to stretch his wings and fly. Besides the owl, she also loves the cats that roam around Hogwarts, and I could definitely envision her adopting one later down the line.

What are her thoughts on cold weather?: Meredydd has a complicated relationship with cold weather, because she actually prefers the colder seasons like Autumn and Winter, but she is always cold. Even during the warmer times of the year, she finds herself a bit chilly most days, so she tends to wear layers. Professor Fig gave her the navigator's scarf, which she always wears because she is constantly cold. This is something that Sebastian teases her about because I think he tends to run hot temperature-wise. “What’s the matter Meredydd? Is the weather too cold for you? Do you need help warming up?” This used to embarrass her before they became a couple, (Sebastian is such a tease!) but after they established a relationship, his offer became more appealing and they can be found snuggling together or walking closely as the days become colder.
