thinking about velrith 'vessel for the disappointing reality of my parent's projected hopes about what their family would look like' dark urge & the quiet relationship she had with ketheric in that no, they never actually spoke much one on one but there was always some part of her that vastly preferred his presence to orin or gortash & felt--dare i say--just a little bit good whenever he showed even the remotest sign of respect and/or approval. thinking about how, if she ever had access to enough of her memories again, she would understand why that particular fight was the one she was willing to negotiate for out of the three. & it's not even as if there was a real bond or affection there in the first place, she's just always been searching for that particular kind of approval from That Particular type of authority, which he happened to embody exceptionally well.

thinking about the odd wave of envy that hits her when she connects the dots about isobel, & what it must have been like to have family who would go to these lengths to have her back, who probably didn't have to go out of their way to hide any disappointment about her nature behind plastered-on saccharine smiles (she can't help what she is, and they pitied her for that much, she could tell). she does not want to kill the cleric, but she stares at her & wonders if choking down that much jealousy can make it turn into a poison. she won't tell her this when she discloses the way her blood wants her to rip isobel apart, because it doesn't even make sense, really--no reasonable person would want all of this done in their name. so down it goes.

thinking about the way she unconsciously hovers toward jaheira when she joins them at camp, something about the way she speaks & places expectations on her that makes her want to meet every one of jaheira's standards (whether real or simply perceived & interpreted). how she kicks herself when she realizes the way even the smallest hint of approval from her makes velrith perk up notably, hoping to reproduce the result of her actions somehow. how she's never considered herself shy, simply quiet, but finds that the desire to make a good impression (despite everything that she is) makes it harder to speak than usual.

there was no desire to please bhaal like this, by the way. no part of her that found itself looking forward to any interactions or requests, despite the fact that he was the one who made her in the first place. there was never any sort of reward there, just the grim reality of fulfilling a Purpose.

she hates that she has this response, even if some of the feedback does genuinely make her feel happy (worthy). she finds it childish, weak, a damningly obvious exposure of her inner workings & desires that she would prefer no one else picked up on & perhaps if she wasn't so starved for approval, she would know how to compose herself when it was received. but she was, & so she can't.

Dp x Dc AU: Tim doesn’t rest, not even in Death.

It’s a heart attack that gets him, well, that and the insane amount of fear toxin flooding his system. He was dead for a full three minutes before he watches (how was he watching?) his eldest brother get his heart going again and get his unconscious body to the cave. Alfred gets him onto bat-life support and Leslie looks gravely at his family after she’s done her best to heal him. They decide to keep trying, they don’t want to believe he’s gone.

Tim watches in fury. He’s more useful than this, he’s not just going to die and let the family mourn him! Tim sets to work trying to understand what’s happened to him and he realizes he must be a ghost. Therefore, if he wants to understand ghosts he needs to go where ghosts are, and thankfully he just read a JLD doc saying to avoid Amity Park at all costs.

It’s takes him a second to get used to flying at full speed, but he finds himself surrounded by strange people in a strange town and… he notices himself becoming more visible. He’s able to interact with more and more objects, he even picked up a pencil! Poltergeist is a step forward in his plan, Tim accepts this change of pace.

Then Tim meets Danny, a normal human kid who looks like he could be brought into the manor and given a cape, who looks straight at him.

“Wait, who are you? You didn’t die in Amity did you?”

“No, I died in Gotham. I came here to understand how I’m a ghost and how I can get back to my dying body. I just need a few answers.” Tim explains, and notices that his voice isn’t his own, like it’s a different language entirely that comes out.

“Well, uh, I dunno about going back to your body but it’s not safe for you to be here. The GIW are looking for lost souls like you that people won’t notice go missing. So get back to your family and find peace. Im sorry but that’s really the best advice I have.” Danny answers.

Tim begs him for answers on the GIW. Begs him for any answers at all. Danny shrugs him off each time, tell him that he’s just a ghost and he needs to move on before he gets hurt or becomes a problem.

Tim decides if he’s a problem, he’ll probably get more answers.

Soon enough, he’s stepping into the end of a battle where Phantom is getting Skulker into a thermos, and demands answers, and if not answers help.

They brawl, and Tim’s training as Red Robin gets him farther than a lot of ghosts. And then, when he knows he’s beat and he’s about to share thermos space with the robot jackass (who he can interrogate and then build his own robot) Tim realizes something.

“You’re still alive, aren’t you? You’re Danny, black hair and blue eyes.” Tim says and suddenly Phantom is as still as the dead despite the accusation.

“How the fuck- dude. Okay, you know what? Fine. Lets go talk, you’re clearly not giving up and I need you to never say that shit out loud ever again.”

Because blackmail works in life for Tim, blackmail also apparently works in death.

He’s given all of the info they have on the GIW, he’s introduced to ghost technology and how it works with ectoplasm. He’s told about the portal (although they refuse to sneak him into the house to see it- he can handle a few lasers, ugh) and he’s told about the general sequence of events in Danny’s life/death.

And then Tim is suddenly back in his body in Gotham.

The family found a way to bring him back and he’s 100% alive, no longer ghostly, but he retained all his memories.

“We have a war against the government to start” are not the first words his family expected to hear from Tim post death.

rei and miri's physicality: a chronological analysis (part 1)

Time to go into one of the meta topics that has been buzzing in my head for a while now. It's about how Miri and Rei interact with respect to physical contact, and how I am smitten by the way he's so gentle with her and lets her take liberties with him. This is gonna be long and image-heavy [NB now has descriptions]. I have to split it into two parts because of the image limit.

Episode 2! This is the first time that Miri and Rei have physical contact with each other, and it's Kazuki pawning her off to Rei so he can make breakfast without her running underfoot.

As I went to get these screencaps, I noticed that Rei's hands automatically come up to hold her even though he's clearly kind of sceptical about the arrangement at this point. (Lol at Kazuki backing away as though he's afraid Miri is radioactive).

Episode 3! And here begins a running gag about Miri's favourite way to wake up Rei lmao.

I'm curious as to why Rei was sleeping on the sofa to begin with, when that's where they put Miri until she gets her own room in episode 4, and Miri didn't know Rei slept in the bathroom until later on.

Miri goes looking for Rei after Kazuki turns down her request to sleep with him. She finds Rei sleeping in the bathtub as per usual for him and eagerly clambers into the tub so she can sleep with him. Going by the setup of Misaki's apartment in episode 11, she's probably used to sleeping with her mother.

Despite his resting bitch face and reserved demeanour, Miri is already super comfortable with him. She's plopped on his chest, pawing at his face, and goading him to smile. And Rei is very accommodating of her whims. He later tells her to stop kicking the back of his seat in the car, but doesn't tell her to stop pawing at his face. Around this time in the story, Kazuki complained about her climbing into his lap when he was trying to eat, but Rei just....lets this happen lol.

There's a cut out and it fades back into her asleep in the tub, wrapped in Rei's blanket as he looks down at her from outside it. The implication seems to be that she just tired herself out pawing at Rei and then he relinquished his sleeping spot, probably to go out on the sofa.

Such a significant moment. I had already realised that this was the first time that Rei had addressed Miri by name, but it was only while I was drafting this post that it hit me that this was also the first time he had willingly and consciously initiated physical contact with her. I also think it's significant that he repeats the 'Let's go home, Miri' line after she's jumped into his arms. It's him fully committing to the sentiment.

It's sweet how after he has made his 'I'm her papa' resolve, he doesn't seem to put her down again until they meet back up with Kazuki.

Episode 4!

It's so adorable how Miri loves climbing on Rei and how he just let's her despite him not being a tactile person.

Him keeping Miri on his lap after they both woke up from their nap is so precious.

Tsundere Rei lol. Even though he acted very put upon to be there, he was clearly paying attention and even anticipated the high five coming before Kazuki did.

I think this is the only instance of her hugging both their legs at once and I love it. I love it! It's so dear to me. I love this family 😭

Episode 5!

Rei's expression here is golden. Miri, like most small children, is very adorable. But, also like most small children, she can be very annoying lol.

We get another instance of her preferred method of waking up Rei--jumping on him--band she even shakes him for good measure, but he's simply too tired to react.

This is also a good point to note the difference between him sensing something and waking up before she even flipped the lights in episode 3 and the way he's now so comfortable with her presence here that can even sleep through her deliberately trying to wake him.

I wish I had a gif because screenshots do not do justice to the softness with which Rei picks up and gazes at Miri while she's asleep. He's 1000% having a 'that's my baby girl; I'm her dad' moment.

And just look at his expression after Kyu reveals he knows what the deal is. He's nervous about what Kyu will do, and there's also so much 'don't take her away from me' energy coming off him. I see in him shades of the Rei who will tell Kazuki that he wants to keep taking care of her after her mother is killed.

#vcsmuttysunday: Armand & Daniel explore the Adult Entertainment Industry in the 1970s

I think it's more or less established fanon at this point that Daniel and Armand had a fun time experimenting with what the burgeoning sex industry had to offer in the late 1970s and early '80s (I place at least half of the blame on this comic). But sex shops really started taking of in Europe and North America in the '60s, '70s, and '80s! As far as I could find, London's first 'modern' sex shop opened in 1972 — five years before Armand and Daniel moved to London and lived as a couple in the city. Manhattan - where they later went - was infamous for having a strip of pornography theaters and all kinds of XXX entertainment spots in Times Square.

Callum learns about romance from watching his parents.

They're pretty gross, actually, but it's a nice kind of gross. Callum likes the way his mom smiles when his step-dad kisses her cheek, and Mom always looks so pleased with herself when Harrow rolls his eyes at whatever stupid meme she's tagged him in this time. (Seriously. They're adults.)

They love each other, obviously, and Harrow's a bit old fashioned in some ways, but Callum learns about how to romance someone from watching them. It's in the dumb jokes, and the words of affirmation, and the unwavering, unflinching support no matter how stupid Mom thinks Harrow's latest decision is. It's in the playful food fights, and the way Harrow pulls Mom's chair out for her even if they're just having dinner at home, and in the way they laugh together, even about the bad things, so of course, that's how Callum treats Rayla.

It's a pretty good partnership. Rayla never expects any big romantic gestures, and hanging out together is more than enough, but Callum can't help it. There are certain things he wants to be special: their first date, the way he asks her to the spring dance, the dinner they have when Rayla wins gold at a gymnastics meet, and, of course, the night that they decide to... go all the way.

It's convenient because his mom and dad and Ezran will be away that weekend, and Callum and Rayla have been together for a couple of years now that, y'know, it just feels right. What doesn't feel right is the way Harrow knocks on his bedroom door just before they leave looking a little uneasy, a little perturbed, but determined all the same.

"Do you mind if we talk?"

Callum blinks. "Uh. Sure," he says, stepping aside to let his stepfather into his room. He and Mom have never been particularly strict about keeping his room clean, but he still piles all of the stuff on his desk into a little stack of paper away from the bed where Harrow takes a seat. Callum plonks into his desk chair and waits.

Harrow takes a breath. "Look, son," he begins. His voice sounds a little strangled. "Your mother and I... we trust you. You're smart. You're a gentleman. We're very proud of the young man you've become. I just want... to talk about this weekend."

Callum almost laughs. "Dad, it'll be fine. It's not like you've never gone away before."

"That's true," says Harrow. "But... you didn't have a girlfriend the last time we left you alone for the weekend."

There's a pause. Callum blinks again before the implication hits him. He stiffens. He flushes. He looks away. "I--uh--Dad, nothing--uhm--I wasn't--"

Harrow shakes his head. "You don't have to explain yourself," he says. "You're growing up. You'll get there one day or another, and I--we--your mother and I--we just want you to be safe."

"Dad, seriously, we weren't--"

"Weren't you?"

Harrow raises an eyebrow at him, and Callum can't find it in himself to lie, even if it makes everything worse. Harrow, to his credit, only chuckles awkwardly and rubs at the back of his neck. "You'll find what you need in the bathroom," he says. "I won't--uh--impose on you any more than that. Just--um. Be safe. Communicate. Make sure you both enjoy it."

"Dad."

"Right. Yes." Harrow coughs and claps his hands together. "All right well. Have a good weekend."

Somehow the well-wishing makes it more mortifying, but Harrow only smiles encouragingly and takes his leave. Callum sits at his desk wondering if he's been put off or if he's just horrified that that conversation happened.

When Rayla comes by that weekend, Callum makes her dinner, and they watch a movie, and he even pops a bottle of non-alcoholic wine that it turns out they both hate. Then things get cosy and heated, and Callum ducks into the bathroom to find the items his stepdad left in the drawer by the sink.

The memory of it almost embarrasses him out of this, but love is in the actions: in the way that Harrow hadn't made fun of him, hadn't drawn it out, hadn't embarrassed him anymore than that conversation had. And as mortifying as it was...

Callum's just glad he's got a dad that cares about him that much.

They all used to be super close (they’re the closest in age to each other after all), but then, well, abyss shenanigans happened, Ajax came back violent, he got sent to the Fatui, everyone was traumatised, etc.

Tesey (Тесей Сергійович Нещадименко):

The eldest child, currently working as a textiles merchant, so he’s often overseas as a result (or at least, it’s the excuse he uses to be away from Morepesok). His feelings on Ajax are greatly conflicting and whilst he does feel a level of resentment to him he does ultimately still love him and misses what they used to have. His avoidance of Morepesok and his brother is out of guilt for his perceived failure as the eldest when Ajax disappeared, reappeared and the havoc and grief that ensued was something that was out of his control. He knows what he wants (to go back home, to reconcile with his brother, to better himself) and is trying to work on himself, but he has a tendency to resort to more self destructive means to cope (isolating himself, smoking, can come off as cold and rude when he’s off the clock).

He was in Liyue during the archon quest (tfw your baby brother tried to drown a nation) and ended up going to Sumeru for some time. But after receiving word back home of Ajax’s injuries following the Fontaine fiasco, he immediately started packing his bags and booked a ticket back to Morepesok…

Kirena (Кірена Сергіївна Нещадименко):

Second eldest child, currently doing her medical residency in Morepesok under the local doctor. A pretty no-nonsense individual who’s desperately trying to keep things together under her stoic image. She’s probably the most well adjusted out of the three since she’s come to terms with her feelings but she’s ultimately extremely upset with how everything turned out and felt the need to step up back home ever since Tesey left.

She’s the only sibling who’s still actively in communication with all the others so she knows that her brothers want to be better and she loves them dearly, but dammit if it isn’t driving her up the wall over how they keep dancing around their issues instead. And now that Ajax and everyone else is finally back home, it only really exacerbates that irritation as she tries so hard to keep everyone together and get them to finally talk for once, if not for her sake them for the rest of the family.

Illya (Ілля Сергійович Нещадименко):

Third eldest child, a hunter who’s also still in Morepesok. He’s quite jovial, extroverted and friendly to those he meets and is more than happy to bust out his domra (doesn’t mean you can just escape his gaze though), but it’s fairly obvious how his mood changes when Ajax is involved.

He doesn’t like to admit it because it makes him feel incredibly guilty, but he’s scared of Ajax ever since that final near-fatal brawl which landed him in the Fatui (Illya had tried to intervene as things got out of control, to protect Ajax and to protect people from him, only to be injured himself and knocked out cold with scars remaining to this day). Now that Ajax is back home, injured, he fees he can’t avoid him anymore and has to confront his issues (if only it were easier said than done).

As for his profession… he’s always had a desire to protect the people he cares about, so he intentionally goes after dangerous animals with his group. Maybe it’s a subconscious response to what happened that day, but he can be patient, and if he finds someone who’s a potential threat to Morepesok, he’s more than happy to play the waiting game.

Lan Siwen has inherited grandpa wwx's terrible naming sense? His spiritual bunny has a pun name, his sword probably has a pun name, and if he ever acquires a kid, he probably gives the kid a pun name too. Or maybe he's like his great-grandma cssr, who named her baby "baby."

I don't really think Wei Wuxian has bad naming sense (afaik the only "silly" name he ever chose was Little Apple, since Jiang Fengmian named Suibian, and Jin Ling's courtesy name is actually quite beautiful)...but Siwen digs out the generation poem from Sizhui's maternal family and uses that to choose his child's formal name.
