RESULTS on Opinions on TwiYor and DamiAnya
Hi! First of all, thank you so much for the 250 responses on my “Opinions on TwiYor and DamiAnya” survey conducted from 27 - 30 Aug 2022. The survey was shared on Twitter and Tumblr (to my knowledge). I was interested to see the demographics of TwiYor mains and DamiAnya mains considering they’re the two “main” ships of Spy x Family.
I asked every respondent to acknowledge they were ship positive or ship neutral to both ships so there won’t be ship bashing. This is definitely not meant to pit two ships against each other; I’m just curious about the fandom demographics.
Additionally, as a DamiAnya centric account, the results are likely skewed towards DamiAnya. This is not representative of the (English-speaking) fandom.
So, here we go! (Numbers corrected to 1 decimal point)
Tumblr media
59.2% (148) of respondents preferred DamiAnya, while 40.8% (102) of respondents preferred TwiYor. I was a little surprised by how DamiAnya mains consist of almost 60% of respondents, even taking in account the survey is skewed in their direction.
Tumblr media
More than 75% of respondents are adults (18 or above), with the most common age range being 20-25, followed by 25-30. Not surprising considering the two leads of SxF are also around that age.
8.8% (22) of respondents are 13-15, 14.4% (36) are 16-17, 15.6% (39) are 18-19, 36.4% (91) are 20-25, 19.6% (49) are 25-30, and 5.2% (13) are 30-40. No one chose 40+. Spy x Family is a big hit with adults.
And now the exciting part that I conducted this survey for! How age might correlate with your choice!
(Percentages are of how many people chose that ship in that age range over the total number of respondents in said age range)
DamiAnya:
13-15: 19 (86.4%)
16-17: 30 (83.3%)
18-19: 25 (64.1%)
20-25: 52 (57.1%)
25-30: 19 (38.8%)
30-40: 3 (23.1%)
For DamiAnya mains, respondents aged 20-25 take up 35.1%, 16-17 take up 20.3%, 18-19 take up 16.9%, 13-15 and 25-30 take up 12.8% each, 30-40 take up 2%. Interesting how there’s a dip for the 18-19 age range when it’s sandwiched between the 16-17 and 20-25 age range.
TwiYor:
13-15: 3 (13.6%)
16-17: 6 (16.7%)
18-19: 14 (35.9%)
20-25: 39 (42.9%)
25-30: 30 (61.2%)
30-40: 10 (76.1%)
For TwiYor mains, respondents aged 20-25 take up 38.2%, 25-30 take up 29.4%, 18-19 take up 13.7%, 30-40 take up 9.8%, 16-17 take up 5.9%, 13-15 take up 2.9%. Unlike DamiAnya mains, the pattern shown here is consistent, with numbers rapidly rising and peaking at the 20-25 age range, then slowly falling.
It looks like what a lot of people have stated is correct- the younger fans prefer DamiAnya, the older fans prefer TwiYor. It’s neat to see the percentage go down / go up according to age.
Starting from the 25-30 age group, TwiYor is more favoured, which aligns with the ages of the two characters. Conversely, DamiAnya (which is often aged up to teen years) is more popular with the teen group.
For gender, 75.6% answered female, 6% answered nonbinary, 5.6% answered male, 1.2% answered bigender, 1.2% answered agender, 0.8% answered pangender / genderfluid, one respondent answered demigirl, 8.8% preferred not to answer. (The stats on the pie chart are slightly inaccurate because two people put down “female” on the other option)
The next question is “When did you start reading / watching SxF OR When did you get into the fandom?”. Respondents could choose from “When there was only the SxF manga” “After the SxF trailers were posted but before the anime aired” “During the period in which the SxFanime aired its first 12 episodes” and “After the SxF anime aired its first 12 episodes”.
Tumblr media
Overall, 46.4% (116) respondents answered “during the anime period”, 30.8% (77) answered “when there was only the manga”, 15.2% (38) answered “after trailers but before the anime”, 7.6% (19) answered “after the anime”. The anime more than doubled the existing fanbase from the manga.
To separate into ships again:
DamiAnya:
When there was only the manga: 43 (55.8%)
After the trailers but before the anime: 24 (63.2%)
During the anime period: 76 (65.5%)
After the anime: 5 (26.3%)
TwiYor:
When there was only the manga: 34 (44.2%)
After the trailers but before the anime: 14 (36.8%)
During the anime period: 40 (34.5%)
After the anime: 14 (73.7%)
The stats are fairly consistent until it comes to “after the anime”. I wonder what prompted it?
[Manga spoilers!]
In the chapters between the end of the anime and this survey (end of June 2022 to end of August 2022), the manga covered: Anya + Henderson (Ch 64), Yor meets Damian’s mom (Ch 65-66), Anya + Damian, Yor + Shopkeeper, Loid + Fiona (Ch 67.1). If anything, we recently got more Anya + Damian canon content than TwiYor.
The next question asked “Is SxF your first fandom?”.
Tumblr media
91.2% (228) answered no, 7.2% (18) answered “I do not consider myself as part of the SxF fandom”, and 1.6% (4) answered yes. If you’re new to fandoms, welcome and I hope you enjoy your time here!
Considering the vast majority answered no, it’s assumed the respondents are aware of fandom etiquette such as proper tagging. And you can click away if you see art / fic you don’t like.
The next question is “Would you call yourself a fan who creates fancontent for either or both of those ships?”.
Tumblr media
55.2% (138) answered no, 44.8% (112) answered yes. It’s a pretty even division.
Out of the 112 creators, 58.9% (66) are DamiAnya mains, 41.1% 46 are TwiYor mains, which I suppose shows how small of a corner this survey touched? I don’t know how to count fanarts on various sites, but at the moment I’m writing this, there are 1303 TwiYor works and 698 DamiAnya works on Ao3. I’m a DamiAnya fic author and my circle consists of other DamiAnya fic authors, so again this survey is skewed in DamiAnya’s direction.
And finally, for the sites respondents use to browse for SxF content / fancontent.
Tumblr media
206 (82.4%) answered Ao3, 202 (80.8%) answered Twitter, 169 (67.6%) answered Tumblr, 87 (24.8%) answered Instagram, 67 (26.8%) answered Pixiv, 25 (18%) answered Discord, 44 (17.6%) answered Reddit, 23 (9.2%) answered Wattpad, 20 (8%) answered FFN. A couple answered YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, and Tiktok. Yup, Ao3 supremacy.
I also asked about nationality (optional question). Fom experience, DamiAnya seems to be popular in the Asian community (I’ve dug around in the Chinese fandom). Not everybody answered, but for those who did:
(I’m very sorry for excluding those who put multiple because I don’t know how to categorise them for this survey)
American: 32
Filipino: 18
Brazilian: 9
Indonesian: 8
Peruvian: 5
Mexican: 4
Argentinian: 4
British: 3
Canadian: 3
White: 3
French: 3
Vietnamese: 2
Asian: 2
German: 2
Indian: 2
Hispanic: 2
Hong Kong: 2
SEA: 2
Malaysian: 2
Chinese: 2
Panamanian: 1 (DamiAnya)
Australian: 1 (DamiAnya)
African European: 1 (TwiYor)
Half Mexican half European: 1 (DamiAnya)
Black / African American: 1 (DamiAnya)
Honduran: 1 (DamiAnya)
American / Chinese: 1 (TwiYor)
Costa Rican: 1 (DamiAnya)
Moroccan: 1 (DamiAnya)
Saudi Arabian: 1 (DamiAnya)
Venezuelan: 1 (DamiAnya)
Thai: 1 (TwiYor)
Bulgarian: 1 (DamiAnya)
Egyptian: 1 (DamiAnya)
Ukrainian: 1 (DamiAnya)
Lezgin: 1 (DamiAnya)
New Zealand: 1 (DamiAnya)
Taiwanese: 1 (TwiYor)
Chinese / Filipino: 1 (DamiAnya)
English Chinese: 1 (DamiAnya)
Swedish: 1 (TwiYor)
Chilean: 1 (DamiAnya)
Iraqi: 1 (DamiAnya)
This is an incredibly long list but I’ll try to note down more significant findings. In the above list, I already put down the preferences of those who only had one reply.
DamiAnya:
15 out of 18 Filipinos preferred DamiAnya. 6 out of 9 Brazilians preferred DamiAnya. 4 out of 5 Peruvians preferred DamiAnya. An American / Chinese put down TwiYor, but everybody else who had Chinese in their replies put down DamiAnya (the Taiwanese chose TwiYor but the two from Hong Kong chose DamiAnya). The 2 Indians, 2 Hispanics, 2 Malaysians, 2 Vietnamese all chose DamiAnya. 2 out of 3 of the French put down DamiAnya.
TwiYor:
3 out of 4 Argentinians preferred TwiYor. 2 out of 3 of the British put down TwiYor. Everybody who had Canada in their replies put down TwiYor (3 Canadians, one raised in Canada).
Americans and Indonesians have a pretty equal split.
The sample size is small here so I would not generalise. The amount of DamiAnya mains who put down nationality is twice that of TwiYor mains. But the Filipino stat is interesting. Also from the very very small sample size, it appears that the Asians (Filipino, Indians, Malaysians, Vietnamese, Chinese, Hong Kong, etc) may lean towards DamiAnya. Or maybe not. There’s not enough information.
And finally for the reasons for choosing that ship! I’ll try to sum it up below.
DamiAnya:
Cute (a lot of people put down this)
The innocence
The potential of their ship / lots of potential dynamics / we don’t know what their future is
Nostalgia
More angst potential
Like to see TwiYor as platonic / semi-platonic / QPR / familiar so it’s not a romantic ship
They’re funny / chaotic
More canonical in the sense Damian has a canon crush, while for TwiYor it’s just hints and teases
Want to see them grow up and develop
TwiYor:
They’re adults (a lot of people put down this)
They are uncomfortable with shipping children (also a lot of people put down this)
Uncomfortable with some DamiAnya works (that touch on adult / “unsafe” topics)
Rare to have a healthy, respectful, wholesome ship between two adults
More stable / calm / tender
Slowburn
The same age as the characters / more relatable
Favourite character is Twilight / Yor
The characters are attractive / hot / sexy
The characters are mature
The characters are complex
Untouched potential
LOTS of respondents who chose TwiYor said they’re uncomfortable with shipping kids and adult ships appeal to them more, which is perfectly valid. That might be the biggest thing holding people back from shipping DamiAnya. And some DamiAnya mains said they enjoy the TwiYor dynamic but don’t see it as a romantic ship. Same for TwiYor mains who said they like platonic DamiAnya but won’t mind if they get together like twenty years later.
People named the tropes they liked for each ship, called each ship “more interesting”, but from the answers, people have called TwiYor both “simple / vanilla” and “complex”, and DamiAnya both “basic” and “unique”. I suppose it’s down to personal preference.
My personal opinions below:
Why TwiYor might be “simple” is because they don’t have a lot of canonically romantic content, just teases / some blushes / ship fuel. (While Damian’s crush is unrequited, at least his crush is canonically confirmed.) So it’s a subtle slow burn. TwiYor is also complex because we don’t fully know both of their backstories and the facets of their characters. They each have their own motivations for starting a family, but they’re starting to enjoy the family for family’s sake. There are also many ways their dynamic could develop (domestic, fluff, angst, etc).
Why DamiAnya might be “basic” is that it’s a romance in a school setting. Young love is also extremely common in anime / manga, especially teenage love (for aged up DamiAnya). It also has a lot of tropes. But DamiAnya is “unique” because of the mindreader / Operation Strix setting, and it’s exactly the cocktail of tropes that brew so many different potential dynamics. There are many ways the two characters could grow up, and many ways their dynamic could change.
People have said TwiYor is more stable (may appeal to the older fans who prefer stability), and DamiAnya is more uncertain / turbulent (may appeal to the younger fans who want excitement).
That’s it! Thank you so much if you’ve read this 2k words long post. You’re welcome to make your own analysis / quote the stats, but be respectful to everyone and again, no ship bashing. This is also a small sample with only 250 responses, so take it with a grain of salt.
Sorry for the occasional awkward wording (not a professional with stats) or mistakes (if any). English is not my native language.
To conclude, as a DamiAnya main, I think this quote from my irl is funny: “Twiyor is for simping purposes only damianya has better dynamics” XD

Hi, I have two questions I thought y'all might be able to answer for me! First of all, how old is Cassian really? I know when Rogue One came out he was supposedly 26 but now with Andor I'm not so sure...
Second, what's the origin of the ship name Rebelcaptain? I think it's absolutely hilarious but I'd love to know from someone who was there when it was created and why! Also, I assume Rebel refers to Jyn and Captain to Cassian?
Thank you so much for taking to time to anwser my nerdy questions - it's really appreciated! And keep doing what y'all are doing - It's awesome :)

Thank you! Welcome to the fandom, and we're glad you're enjoying TRCN 🧡
Sadly, we're not able to give a definitive answer to either of these questions. The response still got very long, so the rest of it is below a cut...
1) The "RebelCaptain" ship name
The first teaser trailer for Rogue One was released in April 2016. Most fans assume that the "rebel" part came from Jyn's iconic line (which ironically didn't make it into the final cut of the movie): "This is a rebellion, isn't it? I rebel." However, Cassian isn't referred to by name or title in that trailer, so the "captain" part must have come from supplemental promotional materials.
The earliest stories tagged "rebelcaptain" on AO3 are dated June 2016, but they're orphaned, so we don't know who wrote them. (It's also possible that they were edited sometime after posting to include that tag.) Tumblr's search feature is useless for this purpose, of course, and Google Trends isn't much help either; there's no obvious peak and a few outlier searches long before Rogue One was even in production which muddy the waters. Once the film itself was released in mid-December 2016, the term seems to have taken off immediately.
So if any fan remembers exactly where/when the ship name started or can take credit for coining it, they should step up!
2) Cassian's age
Short answer: it depends which source you choose; long answer: neither age makes perfect sense, so who the hell knows.
Although no ages are given onscreen, when Rogue One was released, Cassian was stated to be 26 and Jyn 21 in official tie-in sources like the Ultimate Visual Guide. (Even at the time, plenty of fans felt that was ridiculous given the actors' ages.) Cassian was also given a few scraps of backstory (born on Fest, Separatist family, etc); if you're curious, images of the relevant pages are at the end of the post.
Then Andor Season 1 came out, and Cassian's backstory was completely altered. Now he's considerably older, likely to avoid (then) 39-year-old Diego Luna playing someone supposed to be in his early 20s. The current Wookieepedia article has a decent rundown of the cumulative evidence for his age in the film now being 33.
This was a controversial choice among longstanding fans, because it significantly delays Cassian's commitment to the Rebellion and makes his statement in Rogue One that he's "been in this fight since [he] was six" much more ambiguous.
Here are a couple of Tumblr posts with fandom reactions:

Me and my bf are currently in the effort of archiving all the content of Nexo Knights, and I'm sure most of you know the situation around "Knights Of The Realm" by now
If not, "Knights Of The Realm" was a 40-minute two part special within the Merlock 2.0 app, and detailed the childhood/backstories of all the main characters and how they became friends/teammates. As for why Lego thought putting such important lore into a mobile app and, I dunno, the ACTUAL show, is beyond me --- but thats besides the point
I've emailed Lego, a customer service woman says it's not within their archives. I've also emailed the animation studio behind Nexo Knights, but they haven't gotten back to me
The only existing footage on YouTube (that we know of) comes from that of a kid aiming his phone camera at a tablet, but today I come to the fandom with a new development: an in-game recording of part 1 has been found! Hallelujah!
I'm in the process of getting it recorded and up to YouTube, but for now you can find it here on Biiliibiilii (China's YouTube, essentially):
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV18x411t7VH/?spm_id_from=333.337.search-card.all.click
I've also gotten in-touch with multiple users on YouTube who uploaded guides to download APK's of the Merlock 2.0 app, asking if they can access and screen record it. I'll update on how that goes :)
And as a side note, I found this short in my efforts to locate all the different language dubs for the show. Alongside the short I found:
The entirety of seasons 3 and 4 in Chinese (good quality too):
The entirety of the show (I think, haven't checked every episode yet) in Russian:
https://vseseriipodriad.ru/multfilmy/2797-rycari-nekso.html
AND, last but not least: what I think is the only existing footage for the Legoland 4D ride. There's a trailer for this ride on YouTube, but HERE is the actual in-ride footage:
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1MK4y1k7QU/?spm_id_from=333.337.search-card.all.click
My search to access the Japanese dub is proving most challenging, but I am DETERMINED, especially after getting so much progress with these. Anyways you're all in debt to me and Aaron Fox = best boy BYEEEEEE LMAOOO

47:26 ITS THE SCENE FROM THE TRAILER Y'ALL! They bang it endlessly in the pool, while the Deutsche Bank sign (and probably all the neighbors) bear silent witness. These actors have really earned their pay because we've seen pretty much every square inch of them at this point.
Tumblr media
This seems like a great opportunity to remind you that Deutsche Bank was almost solely responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis that caused a global financial meltdown.
Tumblr media
Deutsche Bank was also found guilty of laundering money for its Russian clients- 10 billion dollars worth in fact.

"It was a grave mistake to take Jeffrey Epstein on as a client in 2013." -Deutsche Bank

Basically what I'm saying is that if Satan exists, he would definitely have an account at Deutsche Bank. But don't take my word for it- here's a top ten list of their most egregious scandals- so far.
52:05 Vegas has found some info about Porsche's family. Porsche wakes up Chay and they sneak out of the compound.

55:57 Wow if I ever tell you I'm laying low in Thailand, catch me at the temple. Everyone seems to hide out here.

My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just as bad as listening to The Beatles without earmuffs!” A blog inspired by the music world of James Bond   Part 3B View to a Kill a sad Goodbye to Roger Moore and More
Introduction
Hello there and welcome to another episode of my blog that looks at the musical tastes of James Bond over the last 60 years the last episode looked at the Bond films that I don’t like for various reasons this chapter continues that trend.
Tumblr media
I really have mixed feelings about A View to a Kill if you asked the 8 year old me about it in 1985 what I felt about It I would have said I was really excited after all Roger Moore was my favourite Bond and their was a lot of Buzz around the film it seemed to be everywhere I remember one offer on Smith crisps offering a Free Poster I eat all the crisps and got myself one it looked really exciting the Tagline for View to a Kill was Has James Bond Finally Met his Match judging by the Posters and the film trailers I really thought they would kill James Bond off they wouldn’t do that would they ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jumping ahead 38 years and taking off my rose tinted glasses I wore as an 8 year as the Doctor says in a 1984 episode called Warriors of the Deep “there should have been another way” and in the case of View to a kill I agree with him.
The film starts really well a great title song by Duran Duran you can watch the video for the song by clicking here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp4CR2HcHLQ&list=PL17vqAEJv6CUxmeZBk3JGDLBbcPEd4CDp&index=39  It  also has one of the best pre-title sequences ever featured in a Bond film. But that’s about as good as the film gets.
The Villians in the film namely Max Zorin and his Hench woman May Day played by Grace Jones are both just way over the top even for A Bond film.
I even find Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton off putting as well as she seems to channelling Faye Ray from King Kong in her performance.
Tumblr media
When Roger Moore himself dislikes the film you know there is something wrong. I love Roger Moore as Bond but his era shouldn’t have ended like this he should have left the series with his head held high at the end of For Your Eyes only or Octopussy.
I don’t know what made them do this but the What Culture website decided to give Christropher Walken’s performance as Max Zorin the best bond moment of the film,
A View to a Kill is quite possibly the worst James Bond film ever made. It's been widely criticized for still having Roger Moore as Bond even though he's visibly almost 60 years old, and the sight of this far-too-old action hero awkwardly stumbling his way through the action scenes and bedding women young enough to be his daughters is a great analogy for the movie itself.
View is every bit as energy-free and cringe-worthy as its lead performance, thanks to its disastrous mixture of terrible action, risible comedy and total lack of zest, but as has been said before, greatness lies within every Bond movie. In this case, Christopher Walken is legitimately brilliant as main villain Max Zorrin.
Both fiendishly entertaining and chillingly evil, the great actor is absolutely magnetic every moment he's on screen and he's so good it feels like you're watching a different, far better movie every time he appears.
Comparisons to Alan Rickman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - a terrible movie that only becomes watchable when Rickman's incredible villain is on screen - would be completely justified here.
His Super intelligence also makes Max Zorin a great bond baddie according to the Screen Rant article the top 10 Bond Villians with Super Powers where Max Zorin landed at number 5 in their list Screen Rant had this to say about his brain power
By the time A View to a Kill was released in 1985, Roger Moore was arguably too old to play Bond and it wasn't believable for him to fight henchmen with superhuman abilities. The 57-year-old no longer looked like he could take on men with robotic arms. The filmmaker's solution to this was Max Zorin, a byproduct of Nazi experimentation that lead to hyper-intelligence. While not as visually spectacular as other Bond villains, Christopher Walken lends Zorin an eerie presence that gives the very goofy film some stakes.
Tumblr media
Likewise Mayday came in at number 3 on Moviewebs list of the Deadliest women in the Bond Franchise Yes she is but she is still bloody awful here is what Movieweb said about Mayday
Portrayed by model, singer, and actress Grace Jones, May Day is the fierce and incredibly strong lover and bodyguard of the German KGB operative-turned-billionaire industrialist Max Zorin. She is also responsible for selecting and training all his female guards, and assassinating anyone he deems a threat, whether via strangulation, a poisoned stage prop, drowning, or defenestration.
After being betrayed by Zorin, she joins forces with Bond (Moore), but is killed by an explosion. Her dying wish from Bond is, “Get Zarin for me!”.
Jones’ portrayal is so on-point that, according to her autobiography, even Moore himself was afraid of her on set.
Tumblr media
The film is also way too violent there is way too much killing in it particularity in the last 20 mins why the film only got a PG rating is beyond me

Licence to Kill
The last James Bond of the 80’s and the last James Bond film to star Timothy Dalton which to me was a shame as he was excellent in the Living Daylights but for me this is not the way Timothy’s Bond  should have gone.
Tumblr media
But once again let start with the positives first and finish with the negatives later the film has an excellant title track by Gladyis Knight.
The Music
Here is a little background on the song with thanks to Wikipedia.
Initially Vic Flick, who had played lead guitar on Monty Norman's original 007 theme, and Eric Clapton were asked to write and perform the theme song to Licence to Kill and they produced a theme to match Dalton's gritty performance, but the producers turned it down[30] and instead Gladys Knight's song and performance was chosen. The song was based on the "horn line" from "Goldfinger", seen as an homage to the film of the same name,[30] which required royalty payments to the original writers.[31] The song gave Knight her first British top-ten hit since 1977.[32] The end credits feature the Top 10 R&B hit "If You Asked Me To", sung by Patti LaBelle.[33]
The song was composed by Narada Michael Walden, Jeffrey Cohen and Walter Afanasieff, based on the "horn line" from Goldfinger, which required royalty payments to the original writers.[3] At 5 minutes 13 seconds it is the longest Bond theme, though 45 single releases featured a shorter edit, running 4 minutes 11 seconds. The version used in the movie itself was edited to 2 minutes 53 seconds

On the production front Carey Lowell is excellant as Pam Bouvier she made number 15 in Collider films list of the 16 best Bond girls this what they had to say about her:
Timothy Dalton’s tenure as Bond, albeit being just two movies, is the most underrated era in the franchise’s long and illustrious history. Nestled within it are some of the most raw and engaging characters the Bond films have to offer, which is brought to the fore in Licence to Kill as it combines the Bond movie formula with a gritty revenge narrative.
As Bond strives to avenge his friend and colleague Felix Leiter, he finds a valuable ally in Leiter’s CIA collaborator Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell). A former fighter pilot for the U.S., Bouvier is more than capable of looking after herself and even rescues Bond as they seek justice for their comrade.
Tumblr media
The films Villian is very good if slightly underated Robert Davi plays Franz Sanchez in Licence to Kill The Collider Website rated his performance as number 1 in their top 10 list of James Bonds underated Villains so what makes him so good.
The films spawned from Timothy Dalton’s brief tenure as 007 boasted a toughness their predecessors lacked but still had a healthy appetite for flamboyance when the opportunity arose. While this resulted in an underwhelming villain in The Living Daylights, the franchise struck gold in Licence to Kill with Robert Davi’s Franz Sanchez.
A violent and ruthless drug dealer, Sanchez attracts the ire of Bond when he had Felix Leiter maimed and his wife brutally murdered on their wedding day. Sanchez is one of the most violent villains Bond has ever encountered, and yet the intimidating criminal was made all the more compelling thanks to his moral code and the value he placed on loyalty.
The Death of Franz Sanchez in Licence to Kill was highlighted in the Screenrant.com article as one of the 6 moments that defined 007  in the article they comment
Timothy Dalton only played Bond in two movies, but he’s been lauded for being the most faithful to Ian Fleming’s source material. Dalton’s Bond is a cold, calculated killing machine. His second and final outing, Licence to Kill, is a violent revenge thriller that sees 007 abandoning his official MI6 assignment to pursue a personal vendetta against drug lord Franz Sanchez for killing Felix Leiter’s bride. In the explosive climax of the movie, 007 lights Sanchez on fire with the lighter that Felix gave him as a gift. This moment is an appropriately brutal ending to the darkest Bond film, and the use of Felix’s wedding gift offers poetic justice.
Franz Sanchez was also includedin the screenrant article Every James Bonds Iconic Villian Ranked in that article they say
Timothy Dalton only ever appeared in two Bond films, but out of his two villains, Licence to Kill’s Franz Sanchez is much more memorable than The Living Daylights’ Brad Whitaker. Whitaker is a typically smarmy arms dealer who adheres to all the Bond villain clichés, but Sanchez is wholly unique within the 007 canon. Licence to Kill is basically Bond versus Scarface as 007 pursues a personal vendetta against a ruthless drug lord. Sanchez is one of the most brutal Bond villains. He kills and maims people for fun. He’s so evil that he gets the audience emotionally invested in Bond’s fight against him.
Tumblr media
Q Branch
The film makes good use of Q as well which is always an added  bonus when 007 makes Q an agent to help in his revenge scheme which gives Desmond Lewleyns Q probably his longest appearance in a Bond film he also brings with him a whole load of gadgets to help Bond on his quest these include:
 Exploding alarm clock
"Guaranteed never to wake up anybody who uses it."[84]
Signature camera gun
A camera that can be taken apart and assembled into a sniper rifle. The grip is programmed to recognize only Bond's hand.[85]
Laser Polaroid camera
When the flash is used on this camera, it shoots a laser. It can also take x-ray pictures.[11][3][9]
Broom radio
used by Q to communicate with Bond's companion while disguised as a grounds man. Q throws this item away after using it.[7]
By far the Best gadget in Qs overnight bag is the Dentonite Toothpaste which also made number 8 in Den of the Geeks Top Ten of the Best Gadgets used in the Bond films.
A Bond movie wouldn’t be complete without explosives. All manner of situations require a little dynamite to help an agent on their way, and Q usually had an ingenious method to hide these lethal gadgets in plain sight. For License To Kill, the movie took an unexpected approach, relying on a household item. However, unlike other equipment from the series, this was not based on a real-world brand.
His Majesty’s Secret Service had transformed a tube of toothpaste into an explosive device. Comedically titled Detonite, the false branding alluded to the contents within. It’s terrifying that someone could have mistakenly used this product as was intended, but James Bond took advantage of the gadget when he made an assassination attempt on Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi). While his goal was unsuccessful, the toothpaste itself destructed without issue. A cleverly disguised cigarette packet became the detonator in another spectacular design choice.
Tumblr media
So what's my issue with Licence to Kill?
I get that the film is a revenge story but the film is ruined by too much killing  Timothy Dalton  who was excellant in Living Daylights is turned into a John McClane clone.
James Bond is not Bruce Willis The tag in ths film should be James Bond meets Die Hard and for me its not a good look.

BUFFY: Professor Walsh says that adrenaline is like exercise but without the exorbitant gym fees. GILES: (a beat) Very witty. BUFFY: You should meet her. She's absolutely the smartest person I've ever met. GILES: (feeling a bit slighted) Perhaps we should have invited Professor Walsh to the party? (takes a sip of punch) BUFFY: Oh, no. I mean, she's like forty. She's got better things to do than hang out with a bunch of kids.

ok holy shit i figured out what my main gripe with Stampede is. the mystery of Vash's origins and who he is as well as Knives' and who Rem is are immediately given away in the first trailer.
long ramble under the cut. spoilers for 1998 anime & manga/Trigun Maximum ahead.
at the beginning of the series, we don't know anything about Vash besides the legends and the fact he is a wanted outlaw. for all we know, he's just a regular human guy with some extraordinary abilities, since that is all he appears to be. but they begin dropping hints about his past that gets you starting to wonder who he is. i remember on my first read of the manga, i thought Rem was Vash's dead girlfriend when he dreams about her during the BDN arc. I remember how completely stunned and surprised i was the first time Vash's arm is revealed to be a prosthetic during the fight with Monev (at first i literally thought Vash had ripped his own flesh & blood arm off in the manga!!) heck we barely know who Knives is until Legato appears before Monev or even the fact he is Vash's brother until episode 17 of the anime/chapter 4 of Maximum (after the 20 chapters of Trigun (tho it is kind of implied in the manga version of the Monev but not explicitly stated)) !! and fuck I cannot overstate how much of a shock seeing the episode "Rem Saverem" for the first time was. I literally thought i'd somehow started watching an episode of a different show since up to this point, it'd all been a western planet sort of setting and now we were in a spaceship in space with this whole crew of unfamiliar people until I was like wait is that Vash's dead girlfriend...? and these two kids who are they.... like that whole episode had me fucking glued to the screen watching this unexpected story unfold and reveal Vash's backstory, who Knives is, who Rem was, that Vash & Knives are indeed not human but Plants, and what led to the whole genesis of the story. like for that episode alone makes me wish i could totally forget everything I know about Trigun and experience it all again for the first time because it was definitely one of the most unexpected/compelling twists i've seen. meanwhile in Maximum, we don't learn about Rem/where the kids came from/the cause of the fall in this version until chapters 39-42. like in the anime, this is episode 17/26 (more than halfway through the series) and counting the Trigun chapters, that's 59-62/116 chapters (just about the halfway point). like the a huge part of the first half of Trigun's story is the mystery of who Vash is and why everything is happening and we're given little hints along the way that suddenly all come together when we get this flashback section about Rem. like this reveal is a pivotal moment in the series that gives us the reason why everything has happened to this point and reason to be invested in seeing this story to the end and how it will resolve now that we know why everything has happened up to this point.
and then. the first Stampede trailer. immediately gives all of this away.
they even give away the smaller twist that Vash's arm is prosthetic by making it a very obvious element of his character design.
two of what were the most unexpected and memorable twists of Trigun to me are spoiled before the show even began. like sure they didn't show/tell us the full details of how these came to be but they've given away so much that the full impact is gone. we won't be as surprised when Vash's arm suddenly becomes a gun. We won't be as surprised to learn that Vash & Knives are Plants were born 150 years ago on a spaceship. We won't be as surprised when Knives causes the Great Fall. like we already know it's gonna happen bc they already have shown us and so half of the impact these parts of the story had in the original manga & anime is just gone !!!!!!! they won't be half as memorable !!! they won't carry half as much importance !!!!! and that is so frustrating to know people are gonna be experiencing this story the first time this way !!!!!!! Trigun genuinely is one of my favorite series ever and a big part of it was the flow of the storytelling !!! the dropping of hints leading up to the reveal !!!! the experience of trying to piece together the mystery of Vash's past the first time through !!!! agh !!!!!
tl:dr my biggest problem with Stampede is they spoiled the biggest reveals of the story before it even began.
.....and realized this all because i had the thought this morning of "I hope the first episode doesn't start with the SEEDs ship crashing like in the first trailer." lmaoooooo

I saw this trailer when episode 35 aired. I cry everytime I see it. I don’t know from which upcoming episode it’s from.

“The love I received may not be much, but it does exist. It’s her, breaking through the darkness time and time again, making me see the light. It’s her, who’s desperately trying to hold my hand, wanting to pull me out of hell.”  - Taintai Jin
*I’ve been trying to watch trailers, and I’ve seen 37 and parts of 38, 39 - 40. My guess is there is no mortal arc, unfortunate as it was a favourite of mine in the novel. There is also high probability that it is a sad ending. I’m hoping it’s a happy ending, the novel was afterall.
ETA - I just saw this so maybe there is hope of the mortal arc?

or maybe... honestly, I don’t know anymore!

oh dude one of my favourite tropes is when you have a threatening villain discover that a hero doesn't have anything protecting them and all they have to do is like. take two steps forward for you to realise just how fucked the protagonists are,,

I’m sure this has been said before (considering that it’s been 10 years since Operation: Blackout), but I still think back and find it so genius that they picked Aunt Arctic as the EPF’s director.
Whether they planned it out or not, it still seems to make so much sense. It absolutely blows my mind that they managed to pull that off despite the Director always being a shadowy authority figure that we were never sure they’d actually reveal. It’s the first time I think I actually saw a twist hero reveal that made me go “motherf-” as opposed to just accepting it.

Her daylight job of being a newspaper editor? She gets to put her knowledge of the island to use, gather intel, and also connect on a deeper level with the civilians of the island she’s protecting?

Hilda Season 3
My Little Pony Make Your Mark Chapter 6
DC Super Hero Girls: Season 1
Inside Job: Part 2
The Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks
Elfquest the Hidden Years issues #1-14
Two Sentence Review Catch Ups:
Escaping Twin Flames: Internet cults are spooky and the fact that people are not taught lateral reading so they're on the rise is just as spooky. Forcing people to be trans is horrifying. 6/10
One Piece Live Action Show: Dropped after a few episodes. The acting is corny but the visual effects are fine, at least as far in as I watched. 4/10
Bee and Puppycat: Part 1: Put on hold after Episode 12. I don't understand how the voice acting and animation got worse when they switched from an indie production to a big scale one. Bee in particular sounds so tired and blase in almost every line delivery that it makes her sound bored which makes me feel bored watching this. ???/10
Hoarders Season 12: Hoarders is a guilty pleasure of mine. Nothing deep, it's just interesting to me. 5/10
You can find my further attempts to catalogue the visual media I watched this year on my Letterboxd, MyAnimeList, and for books I've got a Goodreads.

I’ve had some drinks so I’m back on my “SPN characters like the same stuff I like” bullshit (so let’s get into it)
Dean talks about having Scooby and the gang on tv no matter where they went, but it’s more than likely that there was another show he could rely on as well in the 80s; something that would’ve come out just after Mary’s death; something that would most definitely appeal to his interests…
TRANSFORMERS - robots in disguise
Dean obviously likes cars, and since he thinks of baby like a fifth member of the family, I think he would be intrigued seeing cars that actually do come to life. He doesn’t watch the show a lot, but he catches it when he can, and the thing that really keeps him coming back is Optimus Prime — the bot that every kid saw as a second father. Strong, brave, compassionate, funny; all the things that would’ve reminded him of his own father (or how his father used to be — ‘how he should be’ a part of him thinks).
Unsurprisingly, Bobby’s the one who notices Dean’s love for the show. He might try to get him one of the toys if he can, or show him cars in the salvage yard that resemble some of the characters, but the biggest thing would be taking him and Sam to see the movie in theatres in ‘86, an experience that would unfortunately be more traumatic than fun. Most of the original cast is killed off, including Optimus, and Hot Rod becomes Rodimus Prime, who essentially has to pick up where OP left off in the fight against evil (Dean isn’t sure why he thinks about it like that, and he refuses to spend any time unpacking that line of thinking, but it nonetheles makes him uncomfortable)
Dean appreciates what Bobby did for them, but he kinda stops watching the show after that. He may stick around if one of his favourite episode is rerunning, but he will not watch season 3, and all but refuses to talk about the show when anyone (mostly Sam) asks.
Once gets older he starts making small references again. He’s even been found humming or whistling the show’s theme song by himself, and has most definitely made the transforming sound while working on baby (carefully making sure no one’s there to catch it). Funnily enough he has no problem checking out the Michael Bay movies when they come out. He doesn’t expect them to be like the original (he doesn’t even expect them to be “good” so to speak), but if he can enjoy a few hours and a few beers while watching them, then they’ve passed in his eyes (this is the same man who willingly watched speed 2 for the same reason i think)
It isn’t until Jack comes along (and Cas comes back of course) that he really tries returning to the franchise. After Jack finishes off clone wars by himself, he looks for something new, and after hearing Dean make some allusion to it, he looks up Transformers. There are so many different iterations though that he isn’t actually sure where to start, but there is one that he notices has a similar art style (in that it’s 3D) that also came out around the same time as clone wars.
So Jack decides to start watching Transformers Prime (and when he learns that one of the kids is also named Jack, he knows he made the right choice)
Dean is walking by his room one day and only has to hear Optimus’s voice for a second to realize who it is. He walks in and let’s Jack explain the show to him (since he never really kept up with any other iterations of it), trying not to chuckle at his enthusiasm. But when Jack asks if he wants to stay and watch with him, he makes up an excuse to leave. It confuses Jack, because he seems more nervous than negative with his response. So he decides to ask Cas about it, assuming that he will know (which he does because “raised from perdition” and all that). Cas doesn’t explain exactly why Dean acts so weird about Transformers now, but does try to make Jack feel better by saying that “you can never truly fall out of love with something that meant so much to you,” and agreeing to watch the show with him instead.
So they set up a screening in the dean-cave. When Sam comes around he decides to watch with them as well. It isn’t too much later when Dean makes it to the room, thinking it was jusst a normal movie night. He hesitates when asked to stay, but figures it would raise more questions if he didn’t, so he sits down and starts scrolling through his phone. As the episodes go on, Sam watches as his brother starts paying more and more attention to them, even cracking a smile every so often. By the time they stop for the night, Dean is visibly more comfortable, and actually stays up with Jack to talk about the original show and the movies.
I have more ideas on how Dean would react to certain episodes of tfp and other iterations in the franchise as a whole, but I think the big thing with tfp for him would be seeing Optimus less in relation to his father, and more relative to himself (especially after the Orion Pax arc -- being forced into a leadership role he wasn’t necesarily wanting to be in, having to look out for everyone else more than himself, not really being able to display your emotions as authentically as they’re felt -- lots of angst). It would be a lot to process, but he’s happy to do it if it means enjoying something he once loved all over again, and getting to share it with his favourite people in the world
