the situation with alfred is more complicated than "he's bruce's enabler" because yeah, he does enable bruce. but he's also someone who bruce doesn't listen to, often dismisses, and makes to feel so impotent he tries to quit his job several times in order to see if that's what wakes bruce up (it doesn't). he's someone who has no real authority over bruce and in fact it's the other way around. yes he's enabled bruce, and so have some of the other bats, which goes to show that the line between enabler and target when it comes to abusive men is not as clear as many would like to believe.
