He ask you to marry him

Hongjoong
"Hongie, I'm here"
He was overworking, and you were worried with him, but he asked you to accompany him in the studio, and you gladly accepted.
"Baby, hi." he get up from his comfy chair hugging you tight and giving you a lot of kisses on your face. You thought he was acting all weird, because he didn't liked physically touching you too much.
"You're okay?" you look confused at him e he just laughed.
"Sit here, babe. I have a little surprise to you." he guided you to the chair, and you sited in front of his computer and saw a paused video, you looked at his direction, even more confused, and then he just clicked in the play button.
The video had a really sweet melody, it was your favorite Ateez song, it was a bunch of video he recorded of you without you seeing it. All your dates you already had together.
The video had a voice. His voice.
"I know sometimes the world seems hard and cold, there's really mean people that says awful things to us that makes us feel really low. Just as people makes me feel in the past. But after I met you, I realized that when we're on our lowest, it means we only have one way to follow. It's upwards. Y/N, I want to be your only way. Your begging and all that came with that."
You had tears on your eyes, because you were worried when he was making something to you. In the moment you were turning to talk to him, he bent down in one knee and showed a little box. Your heart couldn't stop beating in a really fast tune.
"Y/N, will you marry me?" he had shaky voice, tears in his eyes and you didn't need to think twice.
"Y-yes... yes, yes." you shake your head and started crying and Hongjoong took your hand and put the ring on your finger and you jumped in his chest to hug him tightly, and both of you cried for a while until you decided you needed to kiss him.
Seonghwa
"It's so pretty, isn't it?" Seonghwa said, laying by your side in the cold sand at night, stargazing.
"Yes. I love the stars." you said, looking at your boyfriend and smiled. He turned and hold your hand softly.
"Can I say something about the stars?" you smiled.
"Sure, love." he prepared himself and looked at you in the eyes.
"The sailors used to be lost in the darkness, they used to be desperate sailing through the night, they never knew if the darkness were the sky or the sea. But do you know what they used to do to not being lost anymore? They used the stars to guide themselves, being possible to calculate a new path or even correct it in the darkest nights. Y/N, just like the stars to the lost sailors in the old times, you're my star. Your corrected my path and made me feel safe exiting the darkness."
You opened your mouth, wordless.
"Would you like to marry me?" his eyes were teary, just like yours, and then you started to cry in happiness.
"Hwa... of course I would marry you, jagi."
"I love you so much, my little star." he kissed your forehead and moved away a little and showed you a diamond ring that was in his pocket and you gave your hand to him put the ring on your finger.
"I love you too, my love." you smiled and he whipped your tears with his fingers.
You both kept looking at each other's eyes and then made a heated make out session.
Yunho
"Happy anniversary, baby!" you exchange a gift for your dating anniversary. You firstly gave him a chocolate box, keeping a surprise to tonight, a new pair of lingerie and all your love to him.
"Thank you, jagi." you said, kissing his cheek when he gives you a letter. It was a tradition to give you a letter in your anniversary, and you just had a surprise when you opened the letter, it was different.
"You didn't realized? Decipher the code... our code." it was what it was written on the letter. You looked at him in confusion and he blinked at you when you remembered. All the letters had a initial letter on top of the paper, and you always asked yourself the meaning of that.
This time, it only had a '?'. Immediately you went to the other letters.
" W, i, l, l, y, o, u, m, a, r, r, y, m, e, ?"
Each letter to a month of anniversary. The letters formed 'will you marry me?' made you put your hands in your mouth, in pure shock. Your eyes already watering.
"Yunho you... I don't believe..." you looked to the letters and smiled to him, your eyes shiny.
"So, I'm waiting for your answer." he kneel and showed your a velvety box with a silver ring inside.
"Yes. Definitely yes! Thank you, Yuyu." you hugged him tightly and let some tears flowing through your face and he whipped them out softly and then kissed you, passing his hands though your curves. He felt you with no underwear and he just knew what you wanted.
"Hmm... so this was your gift?" he laughed close to your lips and you nodded and kissed his neck, provoking him.
Yeosang
"Y/N, you're awake?" he whispered, seeing you laid, rubbing your eyes, with messy hair.
"Oh, hi... you're here." you stretched yourself and didn't noticed a ring on your finger, Yeosang put it there while you were sleeping. "I'm so ugly right now. You should have called me so I could get dressed pretty before you came." you laughed.
"Actually, you're perfect just like this, it wouldn't disturb me seeing you like this every single day, waking up by my side. Cuddle with you, give you love and affection by morning, it would be nice, wouldn't it?" you looked at him confused and he laughed.
"Huh?" Yeosang hold your hand and you saw the ring. Now you realized, you sleepy form were just gone.
"Y/N, will you marry me?" your heart gone insane just like butterfly wings, your smile grows and without realizing, you're crying.
"Of course. Yes, yes, yes." you cried and hugs him. He kissed your head and fixed your hair, just making it messier and it made both of you laugh.

Whether he's awake or asleep, the memory plays itself over and over again. The sound of the condensed explosions that left Deku's ears ringing. The fear inside of Deku's heart buried and masked by red-hot rage.

DreamSMP headcannon #1
Everything that has been written here is only my headcanon and does not apply to the main ent of DreamSMP!
ATTENTION! I use a translator and this is my idea in a nutshell, maybe in the future I will be able to share more like this!
I bet each of you has come across a headcanon on GeorgeeeHD or something like that. I like DNF, and I thought why not develop this idea a little more from the side of the lore server.
Have you ever wondered why DreamXD guards the portal? We know that it is forbidden to visit The END and kill the dragon on the server, but why? Let's look at this situation from the PLOT side. What if this portal holds something dark and gloomy? The power that is not inferior to the power of the DreamXD?
We know that XD is the creator and god of the upper world, but what if other gods like GeorgeeeHD and SapPVP ruled Hell and End, protecting their worlds and bringing them into balance under the rules they set?
How much do we know about phantoms? Enough to study the end of Minecraft. These nocturnal flying stingrays surf the night sky like a gloomy sea bottom, looking for those who have not slept for a long time. They burn up during the day. People were often considered crazy, saying that they were just hallucinations from lack of sleep. HD could not leave his world on his own when the sun was shining on the surface, but at nightfall his henchmen: Endermen and Phantoms, brought souls who could not fall asleep. This could give strength to briefly get out into the world of the living and arrange a full moon, the darkest night in the month.
In the books HD was described as something that has no form, but for the first time being in the world of the living, it acquired a human form resembling c!George. Milky skin, blue silk mantle, horns, a lot of jewelry, a blindfold, because this god does not need eyes to see the world, he feels the souls of those who have not slept for a long time. Legends say that HD guarded and lived in the End, but earlier, he looked very different, being completely dependent on his god. When God wept, obsidian wept with him, and blue flowers covered the soil in the End, where it is always dark and the sun never rises, no burning lava flows and only cold tears of god. His wings are just like the phantoms we are used to, only bigger and more massive. Some parts of the body are covered with a shiny membrane. HD wasn't bad initially, yes, there was a wild desire for chaos inside him, but under the supervision of XD, he could only help lift the stars into the sky, giving the first god a little rest.
Were XD and HD friends? Perhaps. The god of the upper world could easily move between all dimensions, inviting other gods. Everything was quiet and calm, because GeorgeHD was able to lure him into the world of dreams, where DreamXD spent most of his time, even forgetting about his world. Reality. George at that time could not leave his house, but could receive gifts in the form of beautiful blue flowers from the surface, listening to the fascinating world of living people. Everything was fine until DreamXD brought him out into his world, telling him about everything he had done. Maybe it could have hurt GeorgeHD, because he thought his world was perfect. A world of dreams and dreams where you could get everything without effort. It became a big chip in their "friendship"
And the second chip was that the Dream began to disappear since three people who decided to live in the center of the lake came to the heart of the lands. The Dream changed that day. He gave his all to his role. Back to where he was supposed to be. In your own world, take control and follow.
In the end, DreamXD had to imprison GeorgeHD after trying to destroy the surface. The roofs of the village, burning with blue flames, were only a small part of the chaos that the big phantom had caused. It would have been too late if it hadn't been for SapPVP, who warned that the world was in danger.
HD was forever imprisoned in the portal of the End, and the phantoms never appeared on the surface again. But maybe somewhere inside c!George harbors that same thirst for chaos and control. Maybe HD will come back through dreams or madness. Maybe c!Dream, who had not slept for several weeks, had already seen him.
Who knows…
Thank you for reading!

TURNING BACK TO THE SAND OF TIME
As i looked at the sky, i realize how the youngest stars shines so bright than the old or past self would be proud if she saw new me that shines so bright? She would be feel over the moon if she saw me twinkle every night? As i turned back the sand of time. I saw old version of me crying at the darkest night, selfless, you cant even see the shines in her eyes, she was full of sorrow, cant stand on her own. It was 10 o'clock still cant figure out, the goodness and powerful love of God that guides to walj at the right path. Then i let the time run for a long time still thinking whats going on, i heard the voices of anger and envy yawning at my ears. Oh! I think thats the voices of stars who cant shines so bright, the envy on their heart is like the stick stock on their chest. I think my shines has an impact for them to be angry so bad.
It was half of the golden time, i decided to focus on my own shines and let the asteroid falling to the land like a rock. I started to fix my self as well as my heart. Moreover, i also focused on my study because i believe that it would help me to be succeed in life. Howeve, there is still people who keep pulling us to the ground, but as i started doing things great, they cant even pull me because i build strong foundation on my heart. The girl who was at the corner of the room decided to live it and faced the challenges; she experienced before. In addition, if i am going to ask my old self, i think she could be proud of me, because i didnt let my fear become my biggest regret.
It was already 12 o'clock then i saw shooting star passed through my favorite star. Then i make a wish, i wished that to my future self always be good to others. Life might be selfish, friends would be your enemy but God is powerful than anyone. I closed my eyes, i realize that my old self was strong as a concrete wall. The only words that came out to my mouth was "Thank you lord" because without the hardships that i experienced i cant be who i am todag. We cant turned back the time; only we can do is to look back at the past for us to know that we shines now than the old times.

Thief Part.1
Tumblr media
I was left alone in my darkest hour. I had no one to talk to. All my friends have turned their backs on me. My mother and siblings decided to shut me out. I guess being alone is better than being somewhere with people knowing I’m not wanted. Although I just wish I had company.
I was laying on my bed staring at the night sky and all the stars through my glass ceiling. My Dad had paid so much for me to have this type of ceiling in my bedroom. He knew how much I loved space and just knew everything about my obsessions. He had this put in, so I was able to see the night sky without me sneaking outside the house every night. It made him uncomfortable when he would check on me in the middle of the night and I was not in my bed, but he always knew where to look. He looked outside in the backyard or on the roof and would find me starting at the sky. Sometimes he would even sit me with me outside for a bit and we would just talk. I truly do miss him.
As I was staring at the sky I started to tear up because now I just feel sad because I no longer have my best friend with me. Now I feel like I have no one at all. I just have my memories and this empty feeling. He would be the only one to make sure I was included in everything because everyone else would try to leave me out.
After my dad’s passing, I just let the darkness take over. I lost everything that was important to me. My boyfriend left me because he didn't want to deal with my depression. My friends didn’t care either. My mom and siblings just simply did not give a damn how I felt. Honestly, I’m about done with this life of mine. Now I know I don’t have the strength in me to end my pathetic life I still can’t help but think that I should just put an end to it.
As I am staring at the sky, I decide it’s time for me to crash out because I have not slept in weeks and I am feeling tired emotionally, physically, and mentally.
Just as I am about to sleep though I heard a loud thud followed by the sound of glass shattering. I also hear footsteps coming upstairs. Then more sounds of glass falling and hitting the tile. I heard doors opening and closing.
I started to freak out. I felt paralyzed because I didn’t know what to do. I just laid there frozen in bed. I was praying whoever was in the house was not going to open my door. I covered myself with my blanket thinking this was going to help even though I knew it wasn’t going to help at all. I turned on my side to face the wall. I reached behind me to grab all my pillows to put it like a shield hoping that maybe just maybe whoever is in the house won’t notice a me lying in bed and just keep doing what they are doing. Honestly, part of me doesn’t care what they take because nothing in this house had much of value… at least to me. All my dad’s stuff is packed away at my grandma’s house in another state.
Plus, as long as they are not the reason, I leave this earth then I am fine. All my what I would consider my personal important belongings were left or should I say hidden in my special hiding places that only I know of. I kept stuff hidden from my siblings because they destroy everything they touch. I have surprisingly good hiding places around the house. For all I care whoever is in the house can take anything and everything whether it belongs to my mom or siblings it's not important to me.
Now even though I want to leave this earth I would really want to do it myself. I don’t need a thief to take me out. There was no way I was going to let that happen. I mean if what I see on tv is true I don’t want to be murdered. No way I wanna end up on the news or something.
I continued to listen because it got quiet, I assume they took what they wanted and left? Maybe they didn’t find anything worthy? Who really knows. I was about to get out of bed to go check. However, I jumped back into bed and covered myself again because I heard heavy footsteps again. It sounded like this person was running downstairs. I wonder how long it would be until they leave. Then once again I heard shattering glass but this time this was louder than before. I heard stuff falling. Then the sound of running coming upstairs.
I thought to myself… why can't they just leave already? I want to get sleep. I mean I am like tired and with all this noise going on I am not being to get the sleep I want and need. I was starting to get mad.
However, that mad feeling did not last long. My emotions started to flip to terrified because I heard my room door open. I laid there frozen and facing the wall. I was holding my breath because breathing will only cause attention. This person did not turn on my light. Instead, they had a flashlight. The only reason I knew that was because I saw it flash on my wall.
Once again, I didn’t know how to react because I was listening to this person go through my closet and opening my drawers and digging through my stuff. I knew this person was not going to find anything. Then they turned on my bedside lamp. I couldn't help but think 'Fuck I’m dead.’ This is it I’m a goner. They continued to go through my room still not noticing me or my wall of pillows so this person might not be very bright. They won’t see me I thought to myself feeling a little relieved. I was so wrong. This person removed my blanket, and it exposed me, but I continued to lay there and not move because I just couldn’t find it in myself to move.
To Be Continued...

A Leaf Swept up in an Autumnal Breeze
Tumblr media
yandere!kaedehara kazuha x (gender neutral) reader art credit - Tourou_7 on twt cw: yandere, unhealthy/obsessive behaviors, slight nsfw implications/thoughts, alcohol consumption, intoxication, spoilers for kazuha’s character story + inazuma lore note - i decided to write something short for kazuha as i analyze what we know so far of his character. hopefully the characterization isn’t too off! please enjoy nonetheless! orz
The moonlight casts its thin rays upon the calm, motionless sea. In the distance, fish surface and their movements are captured in the ripples that expand in the water, a minor blip in the otherwise tranquil atmosphere of the dark night. As if a god has taken a brush to the sky, utilizing its inky vastness as a canvas, the stars have been drawn in small specks—winking down at those who sleep underneath a blanket of natural light.
And you are caught up in the glorious shimmer, grinning widely as Beidou wraps her arm around you, pulling you against her as if the two of you have known each other for years. In reality, it’s only been a few months since you were discovered on her ship: a hidden stowaway with your Vision clutched in your hands and raw resolve etched into your body in the form of bruises and old scars. You’re a fighter and yet you also ran from something. Kazuha can’t quite tell what it is you’ve escaped. Whether it’s another person, a group of people, or even an entire nation, he’s certain it’s worthy of the risks that come with fleeing.
Your Vision shines brightly, a stark contrast to the dark color scheme of your clothes. He tries to place a nation to your outfit and comes up empty, his thoughts returning to Inazuma as though it’s the only place he can think of. And he supposes that’s true. The situation in Inazuma has clouded his mind with its strange fog, taking up residence in the nooks and crannies of his brain. Though he can dwell upon the past and the mistakes that led up to the downfall of a precious friend, he knows there is no use for such somber reflections during a happy celebration. Life moves on, as the common saying goes, and he cannot allow himself to remain trapped in the past.
During moments such as these, where he relives the horrible memory in vivid detail, you are a sweet balm that soothes the sting of loss. Even when you’re struggling to stand, face hot from the intoxication of good drinks in even better company, you’re a wondrous presence who chases away his doubts and worries.
Unknowingly, you cast a temporary shroud over those matters and he’s put at ease the minute you extend your arm in his direction.
“Kazuha! Come over here. Let’s dance!”
A hiccup interrupts your jovial giggle and Beidou chuckles before throwing her head back to drink what’s left in her flask. The aura of her ship is beyond lively. Men and women alike celebrate another successful week with drinks, harrowing tales of past heroes, and broken ballads sang in drunken tones. He can’t help the smile that sprouts on his lips. You’re such an outgoing person, always wanting to include him in your daily activities. And though he politely declines whenever you offer him alcohol, he has wondered what the appeal could possibly be.
Perhaps it’s the idea of losing your sensibility for one night, ignoring all reason for the sake of spending pleasurable moments in the confines of a warm bed, wrapped snugly in a lover’s embrace. Such instances are lost to intoxicating pleasure—buried under a hazy recollection come morning. But you haven’t done that sort of thing. Kazuha would know. He listens in while you’re relaxing—while you’re bathing and going about life on the ship without a care in the world—and his head runs wild with all sorts of fantasies. Fantasies he never would have imagined had he not met you.
To think you were just a mere stowaway, a trespasser who had snuck onto the ship and hid in the darkest corner, obscured by crates and chests. And he had pulled those crates aside in search of a few ingredients and his eyes met yours and you held your finger to your lips—a silent urge to keep quiet—and his heart skipped a beat.
It was a special meeting between two, which will remain locked away in his heart for all of eternity. A memory he regards with warm fondness. After much negotiation and a disarming conversation, you were soon welcomed with open arms as Beidou practically offered you to join her crew. You had nowhere else to go—no one else to see or protect—and so you agreed. And Kazuha felt a relief he hasn’t felt in a while, the sort of emotion that stems from almost losing something important.
The pure relief that comes and goes once he realizes you’re a missing piece in the puzzle of his life.
“You’ll trip,” he warns, pushing off from the side of the ship and walking over to you and Beidou. “It wouldn’t be wise to dance in your inebriated state. Surely you’re aware of this, no?”
“I can hold my alcohol.” Your wavering glare doesn’t reach him. “Don’t... Don’t think otherwise or else I’ll—ah!”
The majority of Beidou’s weight burdens your shoulders and you nearly almost crumble.
“You—“ she searches for a means to steady herself— “worry too much,” the captain adds, nodding in agreement to an unspoken statement. “It’ll be okay! Live a little while you’re still young.”
Kazuha sighs and easily slips between the two of you, hooking his arm around Beidou’s waist as he guides her to a barrel. The scent of alcohol kisses the air, clinging to your clothes and breath like an oversaturated perfume. Once she’s sat down, now fully determined to get the last few drops from out of the flask, the rōnin turns to you. He’s caught by surprise when your hands grasp his, your eager expression stabbing his heart with a dozen pins. He’s rooted to the floorboards, unable to look away when your face is dangerously close to his.
“You heard the captain,” you tease in a slurred voice. “Live a little.”
And he does. Or he thinks he does. Having traveled with Beidou, this is the current life he’s come to know and appreciate. But is it truly living if he feels unfulfilled in the process? To find a means for bringing back the familiar glow in a lonely Vision. To secure peace of mind and put his rowdy thoughts to rest. To one day return to the nation he was forced to flee, with you in tow. Are all of these things necessary in order to fill the gaping void in his damaged heart? Kazuha wonders if you also came from Inazuma. Perhaps you wouldn’t be so surprised to see the scenery if he were to take you there. Not now, of course. Sometime in the future, if such a future holds a changed Inazuma.
“I’m going to warn you now,” he mumbles, his fingers ghosting over your waist, “I’m not what one would call a dancer of skillful grace.”
“I don’t think that’s true, dear Kazuha.”
He blinks once and then releases a short laugh at the endearing term. “If you say so.”
“Enough talk.” You huff and pull him into your chest and he feels as though he could stay locked in this position for millennia. “Dance with me before...” A stilted pause as you nearly forget your sentence. “Before I turn in for the night. That’s it.”
Or before you get sick, he thinks, not so cheerful about the inevitable mess. But he’ll tolerate it because you’ve tolerated him. You never pry into his past, nor do you force him to answer personal questions regarding Inazuma and the Raiden Shogun. If you ever notice the way he lingers near your quarters, you don’t say a word. And if you hear his subdued moans as his hand moves in time with a picturesque fantasy of your nude form pressed against his, you keep your mouth shut. You are everything he could ever want and like the very ideal the Raiden Shogun wishes to uphold he wants to pursue an eternity with you.
Your movements are far from the precision you normally have when moving about the ship and it’s a very odd dance. Yet you spin him and he follows your unusual lead like an animal with tunnel vision. For a taut moment, the background noise melts away into obscurity and the two of you are the only people in existence. He stares at your face the entire time, ignoring the way your sandals crush his feet or the instances where he unintentionally returns the gesture. It’s certainly an awkward sort of waltz, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
And in this moment where no one else matters, he sees your radiance in the glow of the moon. You truly are worthy of the sun and the stars beyond and should you verbalize an outlandish wish of that nature he has no choice but to follow through.
Like a leaf swept up in an autumnal breeze, reminiscent of a ronin who lacks a place in the world, Kazuha allows himself to be carried on by the winds that rustle the sails and tangle through your hair, painting you in a backdrop that’s heaven handcrafted by the pickiest god. And where you have your wits, a lively Vision, and your confidence, he only has his blade, a dull Vision, and an inkling of hope. But that’s really all he requires.

We all want Nightfall and the singing S/O part two pls :'>
hehe okay :)
have fun reading about our awkward boy of the night!
Also uhhh I'm at 70 asks ^^'
Should Nightfall have knocked, or should he just try to appear in their house to talk? Just appearing would be strange, yet so would opening the door to see a goopy skeleton with tentacles and stars inside them.
He looked like a dark blue, yet with gradients of different colors, looking like a night sky. Every day, the stars moved.
It was too late now to question himself with that though, as they were already coming. He already knocked.
Should he try to leave? Before he could think of it too much, he used his magic to teleport out of there appearing back in his world, sitting under his tree.
Sitting there, he had the tips of his fingers dug into the earth his chest rising and falling with soft pants. What the hell? Why did he... he looks around, then groans, covering his face with his hands.
What was wrong with him? He was literally a god! The god of the night.
He could do this! Why did he disappear? Why did he leave? He should be able to handle ONE person liking him out of how many humans were around today.
So... why can't he?
Why did he feel so scared to lose someone that he never even met? Maybe because... he worries. If he messes this up, he could lose them, and sure he hadn't met them before but he knew a bit about them and he knew that he needed to be careful.
It went on like that for a few days.
He would appear, knock on their door to try to talk to them, then get cold feet and disappear.
Annoyingly, it happened at night, because he couldn't do it during the day. He tried his best. He tried his hardest.
Yet, he never could.
Some days he didn't even try, and one day, he did! He stayed there for a full ten minutes before realizing that they weren't going to open the door. Most likely they weren't home or something. That's what he kept repeating to himself. They didn't know about him, they weren't trying to hide from him.
Right?
Finally, one day, he decided to go for it. He would force himself to stay, blocking his access back home for a full two hours. If he couldn't teleport, then he needed to stay with them!
He marches up to the door, knocking against it, and this time, he didn't need to wait long.
The door gets flung open, the person on the other side saying "Why have you been knocking?!" then they see who he was, making them, most likely, take pause, staring at him with a hint of confusion.
Oh.
Oh shit.
Okay.
Nightfall looks around, then turns his head down, clearing his throat.
"Greetings." he starts, "I hope to not bother you on this darkest of nights, yet I... need to talk to you, if I may?" ugh why did he talk like this? How long had it been since he had spoken to a normal human?
Sure, he heard people's voices when they looked at the stars, he heard their dreams, their wishes, the things that they wanted more than anything. He heard greedy wishes, and begging ones.
Asking for someone back that had been taken away.
He couldn't grant those wishes, it was a power out of his control.
He lifted his head a little, seeing them staring at him, looking confused. Why must they look at him like that?! He didn't know what they wanted him to say! Finally, with a bewildered nod, they allowed him to come in.
"You... you aren't going to get anything on my fabric and stuff, right?"
ouch.
He ignored the rising annoyance, just shaking his head "No, I will not" he responds to them and goes to sit on the couch tapping his thumbs together. "Now, you do not know me, yet I know you. I am... a being of night and the stars. You sing to them every night and I wish to... ah" he stops, his bones shaking. What the hell was he doing?
He lifted his head to see them, with their head tilted, looking embarrassed. "You've... heard me singing?"
Nightfall nods in agreement. "I have." He stops for a second, his eye scanning around, before landing on them again "It's always beautiful"
They flush with embarrassment, thanking him in a soft voice and they walk over slowly to sit down beside him.
The two of them spoke for a while, learning more about each other, and damn Nightfall was liking them even more than he first thought that he would. Soon enough, he reached his time limit and he knew that it was going to be daylight soon enough, and they were yawning, so he pushes himself to get up “You should rest, I will see you again at a later time. T...Thank you for spending your night with me” he lowers his head, and appears back in his home before he could even hear their answer.
When he appeared back in his own world, sitting under the tree, he looked up at the sky. The sun would appear soon, and Solar would take over. He didn't mind as much this time...
It's time now, for him to sleep, so he could go and see them again soon.
Maybe this could be a way he could have a friend, and maybe even more.

“Why did you leave?”
You froze in your spot when you heard those words come out of Fred’s lips. The party behind the two of you was still in full swing— a party where his sister and her groom were celebrating their undying love for one another; Unbeknownst to them, just a few feet away, was the dying breath of another love.
You turned to face the man you’d fallen in love with all those years ago. You thought about the years you’ve wasted pining after Fred Weasley, dreaming of him like he was the one who put the stars in the sky. He was your safety blanket, one to cover you with a sense of comfort and belonging in a way that nobody was ever able to. He clouded your judgement until you didn’t know right from wrong anymore, and yet, not once did he take advantage of his hold on you— because he’s a good man.
And you hated it.
You hated how even though he was the same man who made you doubt in the power of love; even though he was the man who haunted you in your darkest hours; even though he was the man who laid beside a woman who wasn’t you, tangled in the white sheets while he was supposed to be devoted to you; you still knew he was a good man.
“You don’t get to ask me questions,” you breathed out, shutting your eyes tightly. You couldn’t look him in the eye, not while his eyes are flaming with anger and suffering.
“The hell I don’t!” he exclaimed, stomping over to you. His tone was harsh, but even that couldn’t mask the quivering of his words. “Why did you leave me?”
You finally opened your eyes, after feeling his breath tickling your skin, “You left me first, Fred.”
His eyebrows furrowed, genuine confusion evident in his features. Fred gulped, blinking a few times, not expecting that answer, “What are you on about?”
“Angelina Johnson.”
And just like that, Fred felt his knees grow weak.
His face paled, all color draining from his once red cheeks. He knows exactly what you were talking about. But he wished he didn’t.
“Y/N,” he began, his voice turning into a broken whisper, “I-I can explain.”
“No need,” you dismissed, staring at your feet. You kicked around the grass, sending small pebbles to ripple across the garden. “It’s been years, Fred. It doesn’t matter anymore.”
“Obviously, it does,” he insisted, stepping closer to you. He couldn’t help but shed a tear when you took a step back.
You shyly looked at your fingers, unable to look at him in the eyes once more. It has been seven years since you found him sleeping soundly beside Angelina Johnson, right before the war. You confessed your feelings for him a few hours before that night, even going so far as kissing him under the moonlight before you went off to fight in the battle of Hogwarts the next day. You didn’t speak to him the entire time and you left without another word once the war was over.
“Can we talk about this?”
“No, Fred,” you hissed, not even bothering to wipe the tears that were falling from your eyes, “Do you know how many times I’ve cried while we were still at Hogwarts because people would whisper about how bloody pathetic I am for being madly in love with you? You daft git! I would’ve done anything for you, Fred. Everyone but you could see that.”
You grimaced as you continued, “Do you know how it feels to confess your love for someone and then finding them in bed with another woman not even a day later? Do you know how it feels to lose your best friend and the one you love all in a blink of an eye?”
“Y/N, listen-”
“No, you listen,” you exhaled. In that small moment of silence, you faintly heard the crowd chanting, “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” and you felt so guilty having this conversation during two of your closest friends’ magical night. You looked at Fred, “I was so happy that night, you know? We’ve been best friends for ages before that and you always told me that I was deserving of love. I never believed you until that night because Merlin, if I’m deserving of Fred Weasley then maybe I am deserving of love.”
“You are,” he squeaked, trembling like your words were daggers stabbing him.
You ignored him, “I felt so stupid after seeing you with Angelina because then I knew it was too good to be true. I couldn’t even bring myself to confront you about it.”
“I-” you chuckled humorlessly, throat beginning to close up, “I wanted you, Fred. A-and obviously, you belonged to someone else and I just… I couldn’t be there anymore. I couldn’t be here anymore! How I managed to still be friends with Ginny or visit Charlie in Romania when I was there for work— knowing full well that I saw you every time I looked at them— without bursting into tears, I don’t know! But I left for me, Fred. I needed to put myself back together again.”
“Y/N, if I had known you’re in love with me-”
“Was in love with you,” you corrected, although you didn’t know if what you were saying was the truth, “Was.”
He flinched but continued, “-was in love with me, then I wouldn’t hav-”
“Wouldn’t have fucked her?”
Fred faltered, your words twisting the knife that was already buried in his chest. He nodded sadly, “Yeah.”
“Fred, you would’ve done it anyway.”
“No, I wouldn’t!” he pleaded, rushing over to you. “I wouldn’t because I was in love with you! I’m still in love with you! Had I known you weren’t just saying that because we were going into war, I swear Y/N things would’ve been so different.”
“Please save it,” you placed a hand on his chest, keeping him at arms distance.
He grabbed your hand, bringing it to his lips as he peppered kisses to your knuckles. His tears touched your skin, the warmth of it making you shudder. You pulled your hand that he held closer to you, wanting to feel him near you, even just for a moment. You watched in despair as he murmured apologies into your skin.
His eyes were closed, eyelashes touching the scar on the crease of your index finger. Fred looked at you through blurred vision, eyes red from crying and pleading. You couldn’t hear anything else but his sobs, the sounds from the wedding long forgotten. Fred whispered, not knowing if you were even listening to him anymore.
Please. Please. Please.
You stared at the boy in front of you in all his glory, vulnerable for you. Subconsciously you stroked his cheekbone with the pad of your thumb, humming as he nudged his face into your touch. Fred’s bottom lip quivered, twisting his head to kiss your palm. He whispered again.
Please. Please. Please.
“Freddie,” you finally spoke. You felt his lips twitch to a smile at the way his nickname still sounded so smooth rolling off your tongue, so sweet like honey.
“Hm?”
“I want to forgive you.”
“So please forgive me,” he said so softly you almost didn’t catch it.
You pulled your hand away, holding it close to your chest. You stared at each other, taking in each other’s presence for the first time in seven years. He looked more mature. The years you’ve spent apart were kind to him. He looked more handsome than ever.
You stared at the scar on his eyebrow— the one that he got when he tried to teach you how to fly in your third year. You stared at his eyes— the same ones you used to dream about waking up next to in the morning. You stared at his lips— the ones that you had the pleasure to feel on yours on that forsaken night.
“I want to forgive you,” you echoed, allowing yourself to bask in his presence one last time, “But I can’t, Fred.”
Silence.
“You-” you paused, collecting yourself before continuing. You looked up at the sky briefly, letting out a shaky breath, “You broke me. I have spent years trying to fix myself. All those years apart, all I’ve done is try to forget you but you’re everywhere, Fred. You’re the person in my dreams and in my nightmares all together. Everything reminds me of you.”
“And I’d be lying to myself if I said I don’t love you because I do,” you confessed, now looking at him intently, “I fear that I’ll always love you. I fear that I’ll always be tied to you. I fear that you’re probably the love of my life and I hate the part of me that still hopes that you are.”
“Because if love is supposed to feel like this— if love is supposed to hurt like this— then I’d rather not love anyone for the rest of my life,” you began to quiet down, wiping the tears on your cheeks. You started to walk back to the party, deciding that you’ve missed too much of the night already, “It was good to see you, Freddie.”
Fred watched as you retreated back to the party, a fake smile plastered on your face. He stood there in the dark, crying silently and blaming himself for the mistake he made seven years ago, as he watched the love of his life give up on him.

Would Rygel take his darling stargazing?
Yesssss
I’m sorry I just love it when I get requests that fit my ‘aesthetic’. I decided to take my own twist on this request so it turned into this. Also with this picrew Rygel has much darker skin but this was the darkest skin tone in this picrew.
Tumblr media
“We have an event tonight.”
You quirked an eyebrow at Rygel’s words.
“When did you do events?”
“I must admit I usually abhor going to such required events. But I believe we shall find this one to be quite enjoyable.”
A smile actually pulled at Rygel’s lips as he looked down at you from his 6’9” stature. You felt a phantom hand caress your cheek; no doubt from Rygel’s own psychic abilities.
“Besides I think now is an excellent time to go ‘public’, don’t you agree?”
The hold on your cheek tightened.
“I expect that it has been long enough for you to have come to terms with my.. actual identity. And with that the expectations and status of you being my moonlight. I trust that you shall live up to these expectations, yes?”
The way his mind and eyes drilled into yours had you give out a meek “yes.”.
Rygel’s aura immediately lightened up and the feeling on your cheek disappeared only to be replace by the feeling of your whole body being gently squeezed; Rygel’s form of an affectionate hug and sign of approval.
Rygel bended down to your height to place a chaste kiss on your lips as the feeling of other kisses being placed all over your face accompanied it. You even felt some of your hair be lifted up and twirled.
“I’ll have a car pick you up at 8:30 and I believe the money I have just provided you should suffice for preparing for a formal event. Oh, and do be sure to wear the circlet I gifted you earlier. It is only fitting with your status being announced and all.”
Rygel pulled away with his flowy purple hair slightly ticking you. He started to walk towards the exit before suddenly turning around to face you again.
“Oh and one more thing my moonlight. Try and make yourself look as good as you truly are. In other words, perfect.”
~|~
After hitting up the mall you finally stood in back home in front of your full length mirror striking poses. Like, dang, you look good. You don’t know if this is how good you truly are, but dang is this as close to perfect as it gets.
Except for a teeny-tiny issue. Your circlet. How does one even wear such a thing? You just couldn’t get it sit quite right, look quite right, or anything! You just don’t know how to circlet!
And of course it was at that time you heard the opening of a car door.
Crud.
You would have to fix it in the car as you only had time to grab your purse and book it down to the car before Rygel blows up the planet or something.
You didn’t even pay attention to the chauffeur who held open the door for me as you scrambled in.
Of course like the idiot you were this also meant you didn’t notice that Rygel was also in the car with you.
There his majesty sat, for the first time legitimately speechless. Even you could practically feel the change in the mind pheromones thing. There clad in his suit and own matching circlet the Emperor sat truly admiring all that is you. It was times like these he remembered why exactly you were his destined one.
His eyes even became hooded!
“Darling, you look positively ravishing. Yes, I do believe this is the definition of perfection itself.”
As you buckled yourself in your face blushed as you let out a meek “thank you.”. But in classic Rygel fashion his face returned to mostly normal as if he hadn’t just said such out-of-character things.
It was with a slight chuckle at your positively adorable behavior that the car started up to wherever the heck you were headed.
As always the car ride with your ‘betrothed’ was almost completely silent since Rygel was never very talkative.
During this extended time you couldn’t help but to continuously fiddle with the garment on your head which just.. wouldn’t.. sit.. right! You had no idea how long you were trying to get it right before you were met with Rygel’s rich voice.
“Let me.”
You arms quickly fell down to your sides by both of your minds commands as Rygel lifted the circlet from your hair. You felt portions of your hair float into the sky as Rygel brushed your hair in certain directions before digging some pins out of his pocket.
“I always find pins to work best at keeping these in place. I never really use them though but I try to keep them on me at all times just for cases like these.”
It is with a few flourishes of his hands that the circlet was perfectly placed in your hair.
“Rygel..I.. Thank you!”
A sudden pull was administered on your waist as you fell into his chest. A large inhale was heard as Rygel took in the smell of your hair. A smile tugged at his lips as he placed a kiss onto your lockes.
“It is no issue. I pride making myself and others look presentable. Besides, I’m sure you’ll become more comfortable with putting on a circlet later. I’ll send you some info about how it is typically worn.”
“I would appreciate that.”
You sat in a comfortable silence before you broke it.
“Hey, where exactly are we going?”
“We’re going to an observatory where some of my people are holding an event in honor of us soon leaving this accursed place.”
Rygel truly was a master at saying sentences with a lot to unpack.
You turned to face him.
“Hold up? Your people? Aren’t they all supposed to be in space or something?”
Rygel let out a hum as you felt your hair mindlessly float about you.
“Well of course most of them are indeed in space but a few like me have infiltrated Earth and have made lives for themselves. Such as my foster family.”
“Are you telling me there’s a bunch of aliens walking around us in plain sight without anyone knowing?”
Rygel shrugged as a playful smirk pulled at his lips.
“Perhaps. I mean, I did manage to fool everyone for what? 18 years?”
At his remark you let out a few mumbles which only earned you a smile and pat on the head.
“You truly think the most hilarious things, my dear.”
~|~
“Isn’t it a bit much to.. float?”
The two of you were currently going up the stairs to the observatory with your small hand being engulfed by his slender, graceful one.
“Absolutely not. It is a show of status and is simply much more enjoyable than walking. I will never understand you humans. Why walk when you can simply float everywhere?”
“Because we can’t float.”
Rygel frowned slightly at that.
“Ah, yes. Pity. Really moonlight what ever would you do without me.”
“Walk.”
With a smirk you rose right up to him. His smirk seemed to widen even more once you clung to him to catch your balance.
“This.. is weird.”
“Just wait until you try dancing like this. Actually, stay like this on me for the rest of the night. I would hate for a small accident to occur.”
That was a lie and you knew it. He just liked you like this. But even so you couldn’t imagine how you would ever be able to dance on this invisible floor beneath you.
~|~
“Is that his imperial highness?”
“He’s so tall.”
“And so.. pretty...”
Rygel let out a quiet sigh only you seemed to hear.
“And all of the sudden I remember why I don’t enjoy such events.”
You had to agree with his sentiment once walking past an uncomfortable amount of gazes. How did they even know who you both were?
It’s probably because you’re the only two wearing circlets and floating that high off the ground. Curse that fancy headpiece!
The two of you began to walk deeper into the dome where the large telescope could be seen.
But you were quickly interrupted.
“Oh! Your imperial highness! How wonderful it is to see you!”
You could tell by the change of Rygel’s aura that his mood had quickly soured.
“Ah, Devah.”
Out of the corner of your eye you could both see Rygel’s strained smile and 2 glasses floating your way.
As the glass landed in your hands Rygel slightly turned to you.
“This is one of the main sponsors of the missions on Earth.”
Devah put on way too cheery of a smile as he hissed out a whisper; as if he was making sure you could not hear.
“And is it alright if I ask but what exactly is a human doing here?”
Rygel’s golden eyes flashed as his grip tightened on you and his mind readied for a strike.
“She is my mate. If you are not as dimwitted as I thought then you should know that things such as species has no effect on who a person’s mate is. Human or not, she is your empress and you shall treat her as such.”
As the aliens face paled it dawned on you that Rygel may be invisibly choking like in Star Wars.
“Y-yes, my apology your imperial highness.”
Rygel raised a purple eyebrow at this as the man jerked into a bow as yellow energy surrounded him.
“Highness?”
“Y-yes your imperial highnesses.”
Rygel actually let out a smile at this.
“Much better. But I think we’ll just leave you like this for the rest of the night. Perhaps it will help you remember your status. Come now, my darling.”
You were pulled away from the bowing alien by Rygel’s long strides towards the large telescope; the focal point of the room.
As Rygel peered in and gave some slight adjustments to the machinery you took a sip from the glass in front of you only to pull back in shock.
This was a new taste for sure. Despite scowering your mind’s attic of a memory you could not place such a taste anywhere. You were honestly kind of scared to ask what the drink was made because of the possible response being blood.
And you kinda needed to know if this was alcholic.
“Um.. Hey, Emperor?”
Rygel let out a mere hum as his only indication of hearing you as his psychic energy caressed you.
“What exactly is this drink? And is it alcholic?”
Rygel let out a light chuckle as his golden eyes continued to look through the lens.
“Don’t worry, it isn’t alcholic. I know you technically aren’t of age to drink here but you’re always more than welcome to. Beauty of world domination and all.”
You hated how he says such awful things so eloquently.
“What you are currently holding, my dear moonlight, is a drink that is drived from one my home planet’s natural fruits. I believe in your language it would be pronounced as the xoqub fruit. Care to look?”
Rygel pulled away from the telescope to give you your turn at the stars. As your eyes peered in you continue your questions.
“How did you even get that stuff here? That has to take forever to ship out.”
“It does take quite a bit to get here but it is admittedly faster than transporting life forms. We actually do a mix of getting some delivered, growing it ourselves here, and just using food replicators.”
“HOL UP YOU GUYS HAVE REPLI-”
“If you point it more this way you’ll find what you’re looking for.”
Rygel prematurely interrupted you by moving the telescope slightly.
“This is the closest point this telescope can get to our planet. It can be seen far past this point.”
You were the one to actually shut yourself up as you stared deeply at that tiny little point.
“It’s really that far away?”
“Yes. It is at least a one month journey to reach there. We will also have a few days added on as we will be making a few stops along the way for various things and your own enjoyment.”
You looked up from the vast before you.
“My own enjoyment?”
“This will be your first time into space, yes? I figured you could at least see some of your new territories. I also have some things to take care of at these places anyway. We’re mainly stopping at the Europa colony and this area by the Kupier belt. After that it’s a non stop journey.”
You turned to look back at all the stars.
“It’s weird.. to think I’ll be riding through the stars and going to places humans have never gone before. But it’s all so.. pretty.”
Rygel hummed as he took a sip from his own glass.
“And all that ‘pretty’ shall be ours, my moonlight.”

I Will Leave You Words- Kaz Brekker
Summary- A young boy and girl, met in the darkest valley, away from each other, to see the stars and moon. When they caught a glimpse of each other, they exchange and left some few words for each other.
Tumblr media
gif is by @crowbrekker <3 so.... this is my first kaz brekker fanfic so pls be considerate lmao and my first post in tumblr, for that matter. idk i had this idea in my head so i decided to make a tumblr account in the middle of the night :) fanfic’s inspired by Je te laisserai des mots- patrick watson’s song and I LOVE IT SM AND I NEED ANGST. + i’m still half way of the books so this might be a lil ooc so sorry anyways here we go!! (i changed the age of kaz when they moved to ketterdam so instead he and jordie moved in ketterdam around the age of 5 and not 9)
What such good lies it was what came out of your mouth. Love, the most unexpected thing for such Grisha like you. A Tidemaker, and a powerful one. Your parents had died when you were a kid, and you were taken to the Darkling’s services. Such good power like yours needs help. He’d told you. You, being a scared and naive girl at the moment, didn’t see the evilness in his grey eyes, and you let him train you. For years you were in his army, fighting.
But you wouldn’t forget your life before your parents had died. You were all living in Ketterdam, and it may not be the best place to live when you are a runaway Grisha, but it was alright for you, it’d felt like home, or how you define home is.
Your parents were runaway Grishas; Inferni and Heartrender. They did not want to be a part of the war, and so they run, ran with their powerful Tidemaker child, you because they knew Darkling would want you to be in his side if he ever finds you, and that will certainly not be happening as long as your parents breathe.
While you were staying in Ketterdam, your family had lived in a small apartment, inside the shadows where no one can find you easily. You weren’t allowed to go out seeing as Ketterdam was dangerous, and your parents were the only ones to go out to get some money and food.
You obliged their orders and stayed in your apartment. The apartment was small, but it was still neat for one to live in. Whilst your apartment was located on one of the darkest alleys of Ketterdam, your apartment was tall, yet small, enough that you could see the stars twinkling underneath the shining moonlight, You’d rest your little cheeks on your smalls window and stare at it, the longing, sad stars reflecting back on your kind and tired eyes.
And then, all of the sudden, you had found a boy, lost and scared, on the alleys of your apartment. You were fast and logical enough to hide underneath your table; Remember, my child, Ketterdam and its people is not one you would trust. This man was a stranger and was probably just lost. So she hid.
She stayed there until the boy seemingly climbs to the top of the others apartment roof; using its back stairs. There the boy sat quietly and comfortably, watching the stars. You blinked, why would a young boy, your age, climb up one rooftop just to watch the stars?
You never knew why, but the boy’s name was Kaz Brekker, and his mother would sometimes take him on top of the highest grounds near their farm to watch the shooting stars. He seemingly turns around when you were peaking out the window, staring at him in awe.
He’d stared back, and he had smiled at you. You froze and felt your cheeks hit up as you subconsciously. closed your windows and flopped on your small bed.
That was the start of the nights you’d see him. And you kept seeing him.
Je te laisserai des mots     I’ll leave you words
For over the years, he’d go to the alley of your apartment, to watch the stars. You guys were now 8, kids who met at 5, and you started to interact with each other for over 3 years. You’d been able to sneak out when your parents weren’t home, and lay a note on the ground of the rooftops, and wait until the unknown boy would be there, and he, too, would leave you a note of words and poems and dreams.
“Do you like the stars, too?”   “Stars are wonderful, don’t you think?”   “Yes! I’m Y/N L/N!”    “Well, hello, I’m Kaz Rietvield.”
Every wakening of the breezing nights, you kids would interact with each other by sending little notes to each other, every night in your 3 years of friendship. You, still yet not allowed to explore the world and was only ever inside your apartment, would send him waves and smiles that could light up the world in distance. He’d blushed, look back at the stars, and would read your letters. Your smile could light up the world, seeing as it lit up his life.
Living in Ketterdam as orphans weren’t easy. Jordie Rietvield, his beloved brother he’d told you about in one of his letters, was going back and forth to jobs, just to keep them alive. Jordie had sent Kaz off to school as he works. Kaz, after schools, would go sit by the rooftop right opposite where Y/N’s window is and would leave her notes about his day.
Everything was alright in their little world. Until it wasn’t.
Y/N’s parents were dead. They caught the Queen’s Plague. It seems as though Kaz Rietvield and Jordie Rietvield had, too. The last time she’d seen them was when they were taking their bodies out on the ocean.
You’d cried. He was dead. Her friend from the other sides of the stars and darkness was dead.
You snuck off a ship headed towards Ravka, and when you were sent off to Keramzin, you had been tested as a Grisha and was taken to Os Alta, where they trained you in combat and how to use your Tidemaker magic- or science- or whatever, you never really cared. As for Darkling, he’d become your mentor, like a father. He’d tell you stories he uses to know when he was a kid and will help you in your Tidemaker skills.
En sous de ta porte     Underneath your door
You were living a good life, but you never forgot the face of one dead person. Kaz Rietvield. You’d still send letters on Ketterdam, even if it was pointless to send letters to a dead man. You always addressed it to that apartment and made sure the letters were sent. You were being crazy; sending notes to someone who would never. . . no, who could never, again, read your letters, your stories, your dreams, and the stars.
After the wars of Ravka, you travelled around the world, in disguise, still. You is still yet to trust everyone after what happened to the Darkling. After you went to different places of the world, your last destination was Ketterdam, the home of the lost, the home of the stars, and your home.
En sous de la lune qui chante    Underneath the singing moon
Whilst you were in the ship headed towards Ketterdam, you were looking at the sea, where your parents’ and a certain young boy’s body now lied within. You slowly bent down, the tip of your nails touching the seawater as you started to play with it, tears forming on your eyes. You were in the middle of the ocean, above was the moon, and you started singing for the lonely, peaceful moon.
It wasn’t great to be back on the sea of the dead beloved ones.
When you arrived at Ketterdam, the first thing you had noticed was it was darker, now as dark as the once alley of your apartment where you- Again, there it was again, thinking about the dead. Everything seems to remind you of him.
And so, you went straight to that alley of where you lived, seeing it pitched black. Of course. You’d grinned. You looked up at the starry sky and see the twinkling eyes you once dreamed of seeing again in your Ravka days. It feels good to be back.
Tout près de la place où tes pieds passent     Near the place where your feet pass by
You stayed in the middle of that alley, not noticing a dark shadow watching you over your apartment’s roof. That shadow seemingly furrowed their eyebrows when you decided to walk to the stairs of your neighbors' house, where you dreamed of going to just to see a certain boy.
Because of the dark, starry nights years ago, you never truly saw what he looked like, but you knew he had ebony hair, and a smile you will never once forget.
When you arrived, you saw that your letter wasn’t there, and started to look everywhere, eventually climbing on the rooftop. There it was in front of you, the most beautiful shooting stars you’d ever seen. Wow, you thought. This was the best view of the stars in Ketterdam, no wonder he chose to pick this spot. You smiled to yourself, looking at your apartment’s window, seeing it empty. You smiled sadly, imagining your old self looking back at you, the orange light behind you making your whole body more noticeable. And then you realized, that boy knows how you looked like, but you don’t even know how he looks like.
You eventually left that valley. You decided to go to the place where they delivered letters around the world until you passed a club, a dark but loud club.
   The Crow Club.
The Crow Club. That’s a funny name, you’d thought. You went inside and heard people gambling, drinking, and just having fun. You smiled to yourself, even in that pain and suffering you felt and saw 2 years ago, in the war, you were still the girl you once were.
You decided to go to the bar side of the club and ordered a drink. You tied your magical hair in a low ponytail as you waited for your drink until a Zemeni man had appeared beside you.
“And what’s a pretty lady doing here, all alone?” The Zemeni tried to flirt with you, adjusting his coat and ordering a drink.
You smiled kindly at him, taking your drink as you look at him, “Thanks for the flattery, Zemeni. Y/N.” she said.
The boy smirked at you, “Jesper Fahey, at your service.”  he winked playfully again. You did not notice five sets of eyes looking directly at you and one boy whose eyes stayed on yours for the rest of the night.
He remembers. He remembered all of it. Your letters. Your dreams. Your hair. Your smile. Your eyes. The stars. . . all of it. He didn’t need a reason, but when it comes to you, he had every reason why you were the most amazing and spectacular girl ever.
His crows found your letters scattered on Kaz’s table when they were planning their Ice Court Heist, and he was forced to tell them who you were, (after some death glances and threatening threats.) He remembers it all like it was yesterday.
Kaz Brekker also remembers that day, when he was alone in the sea, the body of his brother dead, as he thought of you to keep him calm, as he thought of you. . . as he made you his reason to live.
When he was back ashore, Jordie had haunted him, and he couldn’t go back to you anymore, not knowing you had already left. And so, years later, when he’d finally become Kaz Brekker, Dirtyhands, the Bastard of the Barrel, he came back to that dark alley, seeing all your letters from Ravka.
Caché dans les trous de temps d’hiver    Hidden in the holes of wintertime
He kept all of it. Hidden. Safe. It was his one memory of you, and if that letters got destroyed, you would only be living in Kaz’s head, full of memories of Jordie and revenge, and he couldn’t bear to make that happen.
Kaz never replied. You were safe. Alive. And that is what he wants.
Until he saw you in the bar, until his brown eyes looked into your Y/E/C’s. Until he saw you, truly, not the girl hiding behind her window. Until he saw you close. Until you were finally there.
And yet, Kaz still felt like you were stars and oceans away from each other. Maybe it was always like that. Darkness and distance in between you and him. Maybe it was bound to happen, either way.
But Kaz didn’t want to believe that, and he actually convinced himself that he was cursed, never to loved, and to be loved. The memories of Jordie came flooding in, the water drowning him again.
Until you looked back at him with that smile of yours he used to remember. One that reminded him of the stars. One that reminded him of a boy that once loved the stars and one girl who also loved the stars.
You furrowed your eyebrows at him, and Inej Ghafa, his wraith, who was sitting across from Nina Zenik, planning the heist, looked at the frozen man on the stairs.
She smiled softly; she knew you. Kaz would always send her to get some important letters of his on a dark alley, where you were an hour ago, and she saw you.
Kaz was still looking at you. And you were looking at him. Now, the water was gone, Jordie’s haunting eyes were gone, and it was just you. And your wonderful smile.
Et quand tu es seule pendant un instant     And when you’re alone for a moment
Unbeknownst to you, you didn’t know he was the infamous Kaz Brekker, named like a boy you once knew, Kaz Rietvield, but you didn’t need to know that. He didn’t need you to know that. Kaz Brekker would fall if you left him again, and so, he approached you after composing himself.
He was Kaz Brekker and you were Y/N L/N. Not Kaz Rietvield and Y/N L/N.
Kaz promised to himself he would send you notes and letters, but he couldn’t find himself to do so. He didn’t want you seeing the boy who had once loved the starry sky, now a monster full of revenge. A greedy man of power and money.
He wanted you to remember that boy you met years ago to be the same boy. Kaz Rietvield was dead, Brekker wasn’t.
“Would you leave me words, too? ‘Cause I feel like I’m the only one contributing to this friendship.”   “I promise, then. I will leave you words as you do.”   “Hooray! Now, look at the stars! It’s a new one! The brightest!”
I will leave you words. You and Rietvield promised each other, but not Brekker. Oh, no. This was another love story to tell in another lifetime.
   Embrasse moi    Quand tu voudras

Yay, askbox is open! I hope that means requests too, if not please ignore this and sorry. But could I request another angst? Could I please ask for headcannons for Dazai (and the others could be either Theo, Vincent, Leo, Comte, Will or Arthot, you can choose two, 'cause I can't XD) who find their S/Os suicide note? You can take it wherever you want from there. Thank you so much, love your works <3 Have a grwat day!
Hi @robin-the-enby !! I'm happy to see you in my inbox again, and although this took me embarrassingly long (my procrastination tendencies and school got the better of me :,)), I'm more than happy to provide something that will help with your coping! Despite it all, I hope that you'll get better soon and hang on a while longer. I'm sure this prolonged pandemic has had negative effects on most people's mental health, but remember that we'll get through this in one way or the other! Stay strong and keep fighting, if it gets too much don't hesitate to take a break and go easy on yourself❤
Halfway through I realized I was writing scenarios instead of simple headcanons ,, I was too engrossed in writing to realize it oops 🧍‍♀️ 🧍‍♀️ 🧍‍♀️
Finding MC'S suicide note - Ikevamp headcanons (Dazai, Arthur & Leonardo)
(TW; suicide / mentions of self-harm / major character death / blood)
(CW; slight and inaccurate spoilers for Dazai's past)
For those who'd like to avoid specific contents, this is what I wrote for each suitor:
Dazai - MC is unconscious and bleeding, I didn't specify whether they survive or not
Arthur - MC is stopped before they can do anything, survives
Leonardo - MC isn't stopped in time, dies
Dazai
It was as if history was repeating itself. The message, the bloodied sheets and the unconscious body. The only different thing was perhaps.... him. It was a him that had experienced true happiness, a him that had learned forgiveness, a him that knew better than retort to suicide as a way of repentance. And yet... was it not enough? Dazai's mind swirled with the pungent thoughts of his own fate as he ran with your body in his arms. He ran, and ran, and ran, passing by a seemingly endless succession of hallways and wooden doors.
Never before did he wish your room was closer to Arthur's, as he felt your body grow colder and his clothes dampen with blood with each step forward. And yet the stars that were now adorning the night sky's black cape, seemed to be offering their compassion to him, for when Dazai burst into the writer's room he saw him sitting at his desk, completely sober and still functioning in the middle of the night.
Arthur slightly turned in his chair, and as he was about to comment with displeasure how rude it was of the man to come into his room completely unannounced, his mouth was left agape and eyes wide open, wordlessly staring at your limp and seemingly unmoving body as the smell of blood hit his nostrils in mere seconds.
"What in the Heavens happened-?!" Arthur abruptly stood up, leaving his half-finished manuscript forgotten on the table, rushing closer to check your pulse. The two novelists had never liked each other, a difference in life choices maybe, but it surely was not a hate that could surpass even the most perilous of situations, particularly because you were an outsider to their rivalry. As such, Arthur did not hesitate to put to good use all his medical knowledge, carefully rushing through every step to avoid the worst.
Seconds slowly transformed into hours, although Dazai was convinced time had stopped ever since the moment he had found you on your bed, utterly frozen in a state of unconsciousness with a crumpled letter of apologies laying on the bloodied sheets. The only thing that perhaps gave him the slightest hint to time’s passing was the way he could feel the blood on his chest and hands grow drier as the night morphed into the day.
As the first rays of light poked from behind the thick curtain of the doctor’s room, Dazai sat by his bed, right next to you, silent and outwardly calm, although dazed in the raging storm inside his heart.
Perhaps this was what Destiny itself had decided for him. Perhaps it was wrong of him to blame casualty instead of himself. His old, stupid self, who hadn’t learnt a single thing from past mistakes. But as his fellow vampire’s warm hand came to rest on his shoulder, Dazai decided to delay all judgment about his negligence until the Gods determined your fate.
Arthur
Staring at the familiar handwriting, Arthur felt his whole body grow numb, as if someone had thrown him in the darkest depths of the ocean, leaving him to suffocate under the overwhelming weight of the waters above.
He had noticed the worsening of your symptoms, but he had never imagined you'd go to these lengths. He had gravely underestimated your condition, and he could already hear the old ghosts of his past laughing at him, pointing their fingers while mocking him. But now, he had no time to worry about his own lack of foresight; his priority was getting to you in time, so that all could be fixed, hopefully.
Scanning the writing on your tear-stained note, his brain started listing all the possible places where you could've gone with a speed that would leave speechless even Sherlock Holmes himself. The writing was hurried and scrambled, meaning that it was a sudden decision. The city was too far away and bustling with people that could interfere, so it was an unlikely location. As he was running around the mansion in search of you, he passed in front of the terrace on the last floor; there, he saw your clothes swirling in the wind, and your figure standing on the stone railing.
He almost crashed against the glass door as he launched himself forward with extreme speed. You were there, looking down and slightly trembling. You were scared, as it was normal, but if death frightened you so, then what pain would be so strong to push you in its embrace? To drive you away from his warm arms and into the eternal darkness? Was such a painful experience worth the possible relief?
"MC!!!" Arthur shouted out of instinct with his whole lungs, like a volcano erupting in all its fury. A few steps later and you were falling backwards, your back colliding with his chest as he harshly pulled you to him. It all happened so fast that you didn't even have the time to turn your head and look at him. Now that you were on the ground, safely locked in his embrace, everything slowly sank in.
His voice came out choked and trembling. "W-what were you thinking-?!" He was trying so hard to hold everything back; the tears, the sobs, the anger in his voice. He was angry at himself, and you were not the target of his resentment, but he realized that it could be easily misunderstood by someone in your situation. Taking a deep breath and turning you around, he stared deeply into your pained eyes, softening his iron-like grip on your forearms.
His voice now steadier yet gentle with affection and worry added:"Love, I'm sorry for not noticing all of this sooner. I'm sorry for not helping you enough. Still, I want to be of some use to you, I want to be there for you.” A sharp breath interrupted his speech, maybe from him, you or perhaps both of you. “…So please, please rely on me; whenever you feel like you can't do it anymore, whenever you feel like you have enough of life, give me the chance to help you."
Seconds later, you burst into tears, sobbing confused "I'm sorry"s in the crook of his neck. Arthur slowly caressed your hair soothingly, as his heart continued to painfully hammer against his chest. He knew this was not going to be an easy nor a short journey; it was going to take time, and it would be hard, but he wouldn't give up on you no matter what. Through thick and thin, the way you did for him, he was going to support you the whole way.
"I love you more than anything in the world, MC." he added at last, hugging you tightly.
Leonardo
The deafening sound of crickets did not reach the man’s ears. He couldn’t hear anything but the fast pumping of his own blood in his veins. A heartbeat that had never and would never stop; stronger than anyone else’s, but also alone. The sound of his heart was utterly lonely, the only one under the white gazebo, now shrouded in the darkness of the night.
How much he would give not to hear it anymore, to put an end to it right then and there. But he couldn’t. And as Fate loved torturing him endlessly, he was now once more deprived of a person he loved. But this time was different than the countless others before. He thought he had gotten used to the company offered by Death herself, and it had been long ever since tears burned within his eyes, as if made of fire.
Between his arms laid a lifeless body, utterly still and deprived of any warmth. It seemed like mere moments had passed when Leonardo was contentedly caressing your hair as a tired yet relaxed sigh fell from a pair crimson lips, which whispered some loving words before blooming into a smile. Now, they were pale and slightly agape, a cold frown sculpted onto the body’s face. Perhaps he had gotten so used to the passage of time that he did not pay it more mind. Perhaps all his memories took place too long ago, and perhaps things had changed considerably from those happy moments you shared.
Leonardo’s expression subconsciously mimicked your own, one that would remain in his mind for who knows how long, and he did not dare to move away, sitting there with you for the very last moments of his eternally long life. He tried not to think about the way his heart lurched in his chest like a ship at sea during a storm when he found your note. Your handwriting, calm and precise as if it was a decision you had made long ago; where was his mind wandering off to while you were deciding to seal your own fate?
Silently strangling all those whirling thoughts in his head until they died down, leaving him in a deathly silence, he lovingly bid you farewell with a final kiss to your lips.
“Hopefully, we’ll meet in another life.”
“Next time, I won’t let this happen again”
Suffering was human, but he had learnt all too well how contagious pain could be. And yet, he now found himself isolated in his grievance, for you weren’t with him anymore.

can you make some headcanons about how bakugo, denki, dabi, and shinso would react to a seemingly super intimidating s/o who looks mean but is actually rlly chaotic and funny once u get to know them? thank u 🖤🖤
Never Judge By Looks
I INSTANTLY RELATE TO THIS SO MUCH! A lot of people look at me and think I’m mean but I’m the nicest person you could ever meet. So, being the strange little coffee bean that I am, I'm rather funny. I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: Cursing, Crackhead Energy, and lastly..a sliver of smut.

Katsuki Bakugo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* When he spotted you, everyone was completely intimidated by you. I mean everyone, including Mina and you know that’s something.
* So, who broke the barrier and asked you a random question?
* Tsu’s bold-self, she walked over and simply asked where did you get your shoes from because she took notice of the limited edition brand you were wearing.
* How do you respond?
* Doing an epic fucking pose and giving a show dropping thank you as she stares in complete confusion as Mina screeches as loud as she can. That boils a friendship THAT SHOULDVE FUCKING HAPPENED!
* As much as he hates to admit it, he loves how random and chaotic you are. He loves how you can make even him laugh at how you are.
* It keeps a smile on his face though he doesn’t want to have it often. To him, it adds spice to the relationship you two have.
* He loves that every time he comes home, you’re doing the most random of shit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katsuki walked into the home, groaning as he walked towards the hallway, before freezing. He paused and turned towards the open door in his office as he flickered the lights on.
You slowly turned to face him with the cat in your lap as you smirked. “Welcome...To my evil lair.” You said while smirking as he stared at you in pure disarray.
“SINCE WHEN IN THE FUCK DOD WE GET A FUCKING CAT?!” He yelled as you smiled.
“I adopted one..and a dog..” you replied. “But the Pomeranian doesn’t seem to like his new feline friend, Mr. Snuggles.” You added, kissing the kitten as it meowed.
Katsuki sighed and held his nose. “Where is it?” he asked as he started looking around for an animal.
“I’m looking at him.”

Denki Kaminari
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* This is a match made in fucking heaven.
* He didn’t even care how intimidating you were, when you pulled out your phone case and he spotted something even he likes.
* He’s zapping to you and that’s that.
* You guys are called ‘The Chaotic Duo’. Mina, Ochako, Momo, and even Toru and Tsu loves you and how random you can be.
* You two together can make a simple trip to the store a ride to remember.
* The last adventure you two had, ended in you two being kicked out because he decided to charge all the fucking appliances in the Walmart technology.
* THAT WAS A BAD IDEA FROM THE BEGINNING.
* Let's just say..he fried the power..and even the backup generator they had.
* Best night ever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Babe! Have you seen m-“ Denki stopped his sentence as he saw you, standing at the entrance of the hallway? You were dressed perfectly in an Ash costume. You held up a poké-ball and tossed it at him.
The ball slapped him against the chest as he looked at it while it sat on the floor. “Pikachu! I choose you!” You said as he looked at you with a dorky smile on his face.
“Pika Pika!” He responded, running towards you while you squealed, bursting into a fit of laughter as he tackled you to the ground.

Hitoshi Shinsou
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* (I’ve been dying to use this man for the longest.)
* I see Shinso as a vibe guy, he’s extremely observant, unlike others. He doesn't go by personality but by how you are as a person, what type of energy you present. Though you wore a straight face, he knew that wasn’t the case.
* So, he already knows how weird you were though everyone else was still trying to find out more about you.
* He broke the ice himself and simply sat beside you, starting a simple conversation that became an awesome one. No one will know how a simple conversationwent from what’s your favorite color to how cats you owned and the werid shit they did at night.
* When you two started dating, everyone was shocked because after finally seeing the real you, they would’ve never expected him to be happy with a soul like you.
* He laughs at your jokes, might even do a few things with you, but he'd have to brainwash a few people so you guys can get off clean.
* He genuinely loves everything about that chaotic side to you to a T. You make his darkest nightmares to a beautiful dream.
* Your jokes make his day every single time, ignoring every comment that the world brings into him. You’re there to make it better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Kitten? Kitten? Where are you?” Shinso asked, looking around the empty apartment which was strange because you were babysitting Eri.
He walked around in confusion before he heard a giggle, making him pause. He looked up before walking out to the roof of the apartment building.
Eri and you sat side by side in a giant beanbag, holding your hands over when portable fire pit. “Let’s gather around the Campfire and sing our campfore song. Our C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G song, and if you don’t think we can sing it faster then you’re wrong, but it’ll help if you just sing along!” You and Eri sung together before breaking out into a loud sing-a-long with her.
Hitoshi couldn’t help but laugh softly, watching you with her before he walked over to you two. When he sat down, you snatched her up and screamed.
“AHH, IT’S A SEA BEAR!”

Touya Todoroki (Dabi.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Another man who already knew you before anyone else.
* Dabi’s very observant, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that. He doesn’t watch you like a hawk but when you joined the LOV.
* You made Shigaraki laugh, that’s a fucking miracle in itself.
* Toga, Twice and others loved you, especially Twice. You made both sides of him laugh until tears rolled down his cheeks.
* When you two are together, it’s more of a cat and mouse relationship. He follows and watches you, he may join you during your random or weird moments but it’s not his type of thing.
* You and Toga, on the other hand, are amazing. You two do the craziest of things, like Harley and Poison Ivy.
* You’re his star in the dark sky in his heart and he loves you for that. You shine so brightly, it blinds him sometimes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What the hell happened?” He asked, looking at you and Toga confused. Shigaraki looked just as confused as him. “And what the fuck are you wearing?” Shigaraki asked.
You were dressed in a sexy mouse costume and Toga was wearing a cat costume to match. “You told us to get into that party right?” You asked, looking at them.
You reached into your mouse ears and pulled out the papers, Shigaraki needed. He hesitated to take them but he pulled them away. “The...the party’s attire was formal..” Shigaraki spoke up, looking at you two confused as you took the mouse ears off your head.
“Yeah, but we would’ve been seen if we just wore formal attire. They had kids in there and a little brat gave me the papers I needed in exchange for Toga chasing me out of the party.” You said, smirking. Shigaraki snickered softly as Dabi smirked.
“When will it be my turn to chase you?”

Red is simultaneously a color of love and a color of death. It is the color of passion, the color of a bride’s dress and the roses she carries down the aisle, but also the color of blood seeping slowly out of an open wound.
Right now, watching the wedding, surrounded by pale red flowers and silks and draperies, you feel as though you’re sitting at a funeral.
Your dress isn’t red, of course. No matter how much you wish you could leave the elegant hall and run away forever, you wouldn’t disrespect the bride in such a fashion. Not only is she the crown princess of your kingdom, she is also kind, a gentle, intelligent, bright woman who will be a brilliant queen when she is crowned tomorrow.
No wonder she is the love of your best friend’s life.
Something in you itches to just start screaming, to draw your sword and ruin the festivities. But you have no sword, only a sparkling ivory gown chosen by the kind princess herself. Today, as Jacob said, you are here as a friend. Not as a knight, not as a guard, not as a protector. A friend.
Somehow, that word feels so much worse than a cold “protector” would.
The dress is shimmering white, pale and beautiful, dotted with small crystals that shimmer like clouds and stars. It should make you feel lighter than air, light with happiness for your best friend and the woman he is marrying.
But the soft fabric feels cloying on your skin, heavy and strange and choking. It’s not that you can’t wear a dress – no, you’ve gone undercover many times at balls and galas as an unseen eye to protect Jacob, after he took his place as his father’s heir. It’s the situation.
This gown was made with good intentions. The heaviness in your heart has dragged those good intentions away, replacing them with dread, anger, guilt, and sadness.
At the altar, somewhere simultaneously very close and very far away, Jacob smiles at his bride-to-be, holding her soft hands between his rougher ones, reciting the vows that will bind them for the rest of their lives. You stifle the urge to place your hands over your ears.
Oh, spirits.
He says the word “love,” and you have to fight the visceral flinch that threatens to tear through your body.
His bride’s words are not quite as painful as his. You didn’t know her as well as you knew him (does she know his favorite color is burgundy, a red between scarlet and purple, the color of roses on the darkest night?), so her vows don’t sting as much. But there’s pain just the same – throbbing, subtle, never harsh but ever present.
The neckline of your dress feels too hot against your skin.
With sick dread, you listen to her voice taper away, see the trembling smile on her face as she stares into the face of the nobleman’s son. Jacob stares back with all the stars of the sky in his eyes.
(Did he never notice that you looked at him the same way?)
The priest takes their hands, guides them through the “I dos.” They are a radiant couple, pure red covering pale skin and silky hair.
Your heart, smothered in innocent white cloth, cries.
The priest’s next words ring through your head, rattling around your mind with a force to rival the club that gave you last year’s concussion. “You may kiss the bride,” you hear, muffled as though he is speaking through water.
The red-covered couple leans in close. One of Jacob’s hands cups her cheek almost reverently, while the other gently grasps her fingers. He looks at her like she hung the moon that illuminates the red roses of his night.
You’re a knight. You’re one of the Guard. You’re brave, courageous, able to face down any foe without hesitation, ready to fight to the death for your country and the people that you love.
As their lips touch, you close your eyes.
(You’re a coward.)
. . . . .
Your boots echo loudly on the hard marble floor. As you approach the throne, the large, wooden doors swing shut behind you with a soft thud. You sink to your knees, head bowed.
“Rise,” your queen says, her voice lilting and sweet and perfect in the shining chamber. Her king consort, your best friend (is he still your best friend? You aren’t quite sure), sits by her side.
Respectfully, you stand, careful to hide any vestiges of pain on your face. It’s been several months since the wedding, and you’ve gone back to the Crown’s Guard, assigned to protect the king and queen and train the guards for their duties.
The metal of your armor, though heavier than the ivory dress that still hangs in your closet, feels lighter on your body. It is protection, from swords and words and emotions.
“We received the request for your leave of absence,” the queen says. Her eyes convey the perfect amount of sadness and wisdom. “We would be sorry to see you go.”
Jacob looks at you beseechingly. He wants you to change your mind, to stay as his friend and protector. Your mind tells you that you should stay – after all, you know little of the other kingdoms, of the lands you have decided to travel and explore. Staying in the country you know best is the safest option, for you and for the royal family.
But your heart tells you to go, and on this matter, you will listen. You wouldn’t be able to live here long, watching Jacob and his queen rule happily together for the rest of your days. You wouldn’t be able to stomach seeing their children romp around, watching them dance together at balls, hearing the cries of the common folk singing praises of the royal couple.
“However, though it pains us to see such a trusted member of the Guard gone, it is your life, and we wish for you to live it to the fullest.” The queen smiles gently, holding out a folded letter. “This contains a copy of your signed request, as well as a letter of recommendation to any future employer you may seek.”
She’s kind. So kind. Your throat closes up as you take the letter, and you can barely choke out a “thank you, Your Majesty.”
“And do remember,” Jacob adds, “that you will always have a place in our guard, should you choose to return.”
“I thank you for your kindness, Your Majesties.” You bow low, touching your hand to your head in a gesture of utmost respect. “I, too, am sad to go. However, I do not doubt that I leave you in very capable hands.” A ghost of your usual smirk appears on your lips. “And I am sure, Your Majesty, that the King Consort has enough skill to keep the two of you safe.”
The queen, being the wonderful lovely woman she is, chuckles slightly. “If he was taught by you, I am sure he will.” She smiles. “We wish you the best, Protector of the Crown.”
. . .
Jacob catches up to you later, just as training has finished for the day. As you bid goodbye to the last recruits, he enters through the back door. You recognize his footsteps and put on a smile as you turn around.
“I could’ve been an attacker, you know,” he says, slipping into the easy banter you’ve established over a decade of friendship.
“You think I don’t recognize your footsteps by now?” The smile stays on your face more easily now, not because the pain is any less, but because you’ve had more practice.
A short silence hangs in the air. Sweat from your hair drips onto your leather tunic, while not a speck of dust lies on the rich silk that clothes your best friend. It reminds you of how far apart you are now.
“Is there really no way I can persuade you not to leave?” Jacob finally asks. His mouth is downturned in the slight pout you’ve grown to love, while his eyes hold the hope that made you fall.
Your mind screams yes. Your heart shouts no.
“Not this time, Cobi.” The nickname slips out before you can even think. “I’ve made my decision. It’s time for me to go.”
Jacob sighs. “Could you at least tell me why?”
You could. Speaking words isn’t as hard as other people think it is. It’s just that once you say them, you can never take them back.
Should you tell him?
His eyes are earnest. They’re honest. They want the brutal truth that you’ve grown accustomed to giving him over the years.
But the easiest lies are those that carry a hint of truth.
“I’ve never traveled.” The untruth falls easily from your lips. “Sure, I’ve gone to the countries where we were called to battle, and I was around when you had to go places for business, but I never got to really see anything. I want to explore, see the world before I’m too old.”
He doesn’t completely believe you. You know that for sure. You can see it in the downturned quirk of his lips, the suspicion as he blinks, but he knows better than to question it. He knows you would tell him everything if you could.
(This time, you can’t.)
“And here I was, thinking I could find you someone in court to repay you for all you’ve done for me.” Jacob smiles, completely unaware of how his words are stabbing holes into your heart. “Visit, all right? You’ll always be welcome here.”
You can almost hear your heart shattering, the pieces breaking off bit by bit as they fall to the floor. But you smile. “I’ll try,” you say, because here you won’t lie and say that you will. You won’t give your best friend, the love of your short life, a promise you may not be able to keep. “I’ll try.”
He hugs you, staining his silken shirt with the sweat of your tunic. You hesitate a moment, then fall into the embrace, taking a final comfort in the strength of his arms. It hurts, but it’s a memory. And even though you want to escape, you don’t want to forget Jacob. Ever.
“I’ll see you off when you go,” Jacob says when you break apart. “Tell me when, all right?”
Should you tell him? you wonder. Will him seeing you off do anything but hurt you more?
It won’t. But your pain means little in the face of Jacob’s, not when you’ve already hurt him so much with your desire to leave. You’ve injured him enough. “I will,” you promise.
Later that night, you wonder if you should have told him the true reason you were leaving. You wonder if you should have confessed everything, laid your heart bare and told him how much he truly means to you.
No, you eventually decide. You’re glad you didn’t. Better to not ruin his happiness with his wife or his remaining memories of you.
(Or maybe you were just too scared to tell him.)
. . .
You set out early in the morning, just as the sun is beginning to peek over the horizon. A part of you hoped that Jacob would be too tired to send you off, but you knew he could never do that. He cares for you.
Just not in the way you care for him.
He meets you at the stables, where you’re outfitting your favorite horse for the journey. In his loose tunic and trousers, it almost feels like the two of you are in your teens again, waking early to train for your positions in the Guard.
Those were the good days, you think. There wasn’t a worry in the world besides making it past the next test. Jacob’s father wasn’t dead, and he didn’t have to leave the Guard to take over his household’s duties. Meanwhile, you had no idea of your feelings. There was no heartbreak.
Better times.
Words aren’t necessary, not this morning. Jacob helps you saddle your horse and store your belongings in silence. If he notices you stiffening – just barely, mind you, you’re much better at hiding it now – when his fingers brush against yours, he doesn’t say anything.
When everything is finished, you linger for a moment more. It hits you that you’re really leaving the place and the people you’ve called home for so long with no intention of coming back.
Jacob’s eyes are sad but tinged with hope when he finally speaks. “You’ll always be welcome here, you know that, right?”
Your chest tightens. You know he’s asking, one more time, for you to stay.
Last chance to tell him, you think. Last chance to clear the air.
But you’re still a coward.
“I know,” you reply. “But I have to go, Jacob.”
He doesn’t ask you why, not this time.
You wrap him in a hug, one last hug before you set off forever. A piece of your heart shatters when he puts his arms around you, squeezing your body to his in that secure, soft hold that’s just so him. So caring, so sweet, so Jacob.
It takes all of your effort not to cry.
“Safe travels, Y/N,” he says as you swing yourself onto the horse. His eyes sparkle. You know he’s holding back tears, too.
You give him one last smile, imprinting the memory of his voice saying your name in your mind. “Thank you, Jacob.”
When you ride away, you only look back once. Jacob smiles in the distance, hand raised in farewell. A small tear on his cheek barely glints in the morning sunlight.
You wave back.
. . . . .
Travel is liberating, truly – though you loved being a knight, there’s something so free about not wearing armor all the time, not having everyone recognize you as one of the Crown’s Guard. You don’t have to listen to anyone, you don’t have to watch out for constant danger. You don’t have to worry about anyone, now, but yourself.
There’s a little guilt in this pleasure, as well as some unease. It’s strange not to follow the strict routine you’ve held yourself to for over a decade, and it’s even weirder not to have someone you are charged to protect.
Well, you have to protect yourself, you guess. But that just… doesn’t come as naturally.
You eventually force yourself stop thinking about it. Thoughts like these weigh down your mind and take away from the joys of exploration, you firmly remind yourself. So you content yourself with roaming small towns and villages, meeting the people, picking up new skills with which to make a living.
(You never knew you were so bad at cooking, but at least you get better.)
The spirits treat you kindly for the first few years. The money from your work as a knight keeps you afloat as you learn to make a new living (you avoid using the queen’s letter – that would draw attention, and you don’t want any of that now), and when that runs out, you put your newfound abilities to use wherever people care to pay you for them.
It’s not a rich existence. Nothing is certain in this life, not the way it was when you lived in the palace barracks and your basic needs were always met. Here, you can rely only on yourself for food and water and shelter.
But it’s enough. Everywhere you go, you meet new people – rich and poor, rude and kind – and it only enhances your wonder at the world around you. Truly, you think, you lived in a bubble before. Now, even though you’re poorer, you can see everything your eyes glanced over as a knight.
(And if you sometimes miss Jacob’s warm smile, even if it never spoke of love as deep as yours, it doesn’t matter. You’ve made your decision. You won’t go back.)
It isn’t like you’re losing your fighting skills, either. You still have your sword, something you refuse to part with no matter how little money you have. There’s plenty of danger – bandits, thieves, rich boys who think they own the streets – and as such, plenty of opportunities for you to keep your senses sharp.
It’s after one of these fights that you meet the moon child, Changbin. He appears in the dark alley after you’ve knocked the last man out and takes concern with the bleeding wound on your upper arm.
“I’m fine,” you try to tell him as he firmly guides you away from the alley and towards a dark patch of trees. “I’m fine – hey, please let go of me.”
Hearing the urgency in your voice, he drops your arm. Your hand immediately goes to the sword at your hip. “Where are you taking me?” you snap, eyes flickering toward the trees.
He reddens. “I’m so stupid,” he mutters to himself, rubbing his forehead. “I stay in the woods,” he explains. “If you’ll let me take you there, I can help you clean your wound.”
Your eyebrows furrow. “You stay in the woods?” you repeat, incredulous. “Why –”
A breeze shifts his hair away from his ear, revealing a pure white flower dangling from a slim chain, glowing in the moonlight.
A moon child.
Oh.
In all of your years of traveling, you never thought you would truly meet a spirit.
“My Lord,” you say, dropping hastily to your knees. “I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you earlier.”
“Please, none of that.” The moon child tugs you back up, looking distinctly uncomfortable. “I’m just a moon child, none of the ‘my Lord’ stuff. My name is Changbin.”
Changbin doesn’t turn out to be a bandit masquerading as a moon child, thankfully, so you allow him to clean your wound in his makeshift hut in the middle of the trees. He introduces himself fully as a wanderer. Not a traveler, he clarifies, because travelers roam the world for pleasure. He does it out of necessity.
(The look of desolation in his eyes convinces you not to ask.)
He becomes your companion for months, nearly a year, walking with you from city to city until he decides to part ways in a small village near a forest. By that time, you’re sad to see him go – he’s been a wonderful friend – but like Jacob never asked the reason for your departure, you honor Changbin’s desire for silence.
He does leave you with one piece of advice, “traveler’s wisdom,” he calls it (you punch him in the arm when he says that in this high, haughty voice). “Villagers will tell you that these woods are dangerous,” he says once the two of you have calmed down. “They’ll say it’s haunted by spirits. And there is danger, it’s true, but there is also safety.”
You listen carefully.
“In the heart of the woods, there is a shrine. If ever you find yourself lost or in trouble, go into the forest at the break of dawn and find the shrine. The priestesses will take you in. If you can’t find the shrine by dark, though, leave as fast as you can.” The seriousness in Changbin’s eyes tells you he isn’t joking this time. “The forest isn’t nearly as dangerous during the day as it is during the night.”
So you travel for another year, keeping Changbin’s words in the back of your mind. As you continue, though, money begins to get scarce. These villagers are more suspicious than others you’ve met and aren’t as quick to hire a newcomer, especially one so poor but who bears such a sword (you’ll never sell it, not ever). Their suspicion is understandable, but it doesn’t make anything better for you.
You’re lost, now. You sold your horse and fine clothes a long time ago, leaving you with nothing from your old life but your memories and your sword. You’ve become a wanderer, not a traveler – forced to roam for no reason other than you must.
Several times, you mull over returning to the Guard. Jacob said he would welcome you back, and the thought of a full stomach and a place to sleep almost make up your mind on the worst nights.
But even though you want to see Jacob again, want to remember his warmth and kindness, a green snake twists its way around your heart, sliding up your throat every time you think of going back to him. He’ll never accept you, not truly, the snake hisses. He’ll never love you the way you love him.
And try as you might, you can’t stomach the thought of facing him again, not when you made the choice to leave.
So you remain a coward, a blind, stupid, stubborn coward. Instead of going to a place you know, a place where you would find care and acceptance, you throw your lot into Changbin’s advice.
You decide to find the shrine.
. . .
You’re on your last coins when you finally make it back to the village where you and Changbin parted ways. As dawn breaks, you take a breath, summoning your last strength, and head between the trees.
It’s eerie, a bit, but so beautiful. As the sun rises, the sky turns a beautiful shade of blue that melds with the trees’ greenery. It almost distracts you from the fact that you legitimately have zero idea where you’re going – Changbin only told you the shrine was at the heart of the forest, nothing else. You’ve been marking your path with stones you picked up along the way, but something tells you that won’t help much if you’re being chased by… an evil spirit. Or something.
(It’s embarrassing and slightly scary to say it, but you don’t think you have the strength anymore to outrun such a spirit, much less fight one.)
Luck seems to finally be on your side, though, because after exhaustedly pushing through a crowd of bushes, you come face to face with a beautiful shrine, surrounded by wild gardens and small stone buildings.
Several young men and women – a few barely older than children – look up at the rustling of leaves. For a few moments, they stare at your undoubtedly grimy, gross face. You only stare back.
It feels like an eternity has passed before one of the young women stands and walks up, a gentle smile on her face. “Hello, traveler.”
“Hello,” you manage, voice croaking with disuse. You clear your throat, face hot. “I’m sorry for intruding. I just… I met… I don’t know if you know him, but I met a moon – a man named Changbin –”
“You met Changbin?” Her eyes take on a new intensity and a sliver of joy.
“Um, yes.” You try to smile. “He told me if I was lost and needed a place to stay, I could try to find the shrine.” Looking down at your dirty hands, you bite your lip in shame. “I’m sorry. I can leave if you want, I’ve just… I don’t have a place to stay. I can cook, clean, anything you need help with. And, um…” You hold out the remaining coins in your pocket. “I have these?”
A rough hand closes your fingers over the money. “Keep your coins, traveler.” The woman smiles widely. “Changbin would only tell a true friend about the shrine, and a friend of Changbin’s is always a friend of ours.”
As she leads you into the shrine, the only thing you feel is guilty, overwhelming, crushing relief. Relief that you won’t have to face Jacob once more. Relief that you won’t have to face your heart once more.
The mere thought of your cowardice makes you cringe.
. . .
The shrine, you learn, is a very busy place. You wake up pretty early the next day, unused to the fact that you have an actual futon now and not just the ground, but already the other two girls in the room are getting dressed. Feeling distinctly out of place, you start to follow suit.
“Oh, you don’t need to get up just yet!” One of them smiles. “You’re a guest, traveler. Take some time to rest.”
“No, it’s all right.” You smile back, hoping it isn’t as awkward as it feels. “I’ve never been able to sleep too late, and I don’t feel right intruding on your hospitality without giving something back in return. Is there anything I can help with?”
So you find yourself in the garden after breakfast, sweating under the sun with a boy around your age named Kevin. He’s cheerful. Very fun company. Somehow, he makes the monotonous task of pulling weeds enjoyable, even takes your mind off of how out of place you feel in this quaint shrine.
Walking back into the shrine after spending the day in the garden, you wave off Kevin’s offer to bring you dinner, telling him you’re going to take a shower instead. But because you’re an idiot, you forget the fact that you have no idea where the showers are.
Kevin’s already walking away, and you honestly feel too embarrassed to call after him and ask. So, ignoring the curious stares you’re garnering from the other girls and boys, you start walking in an arbitrary direction.
It’s a mistake. As the sun sets, you feel like you’ve wandered the grounds at least four times, but you can’t even find a semblance of a shower room in the whole shrine. You’re about to give up when the priestess who welcomed you walks out of a nearby building, followed by a young man with curly blond hair.
You really don’t mean to catch his eye. In fact, you’re drawing away, about to walk in the other direction, when he looks up and fixes your gaze with his. His eyes narrow.
You suddenly feel very uncomfortable.
The priestess – what was her name? Priestess Yang? You think that’s it – turns around and sees you there, immediately breaking into a gentle smile. “Oh, hello, Y/N!”
Sheepishly, you wave. “Hello, Priestess.”
“You welcomed the sword-bearer?” the man interrupts.
What?
You’re not even carrying your sword. You left it back in the room, thinking it might be viewed as a threat if you brought it around. And you’ve never seen this man in your life. So how does he know that about you?
The priestess gives him a scolding look. “Chan, the shrine welcomes those who are lost.”
“But a sword-bearer?” he – Chan – argues. “You do remember what kinds of damage they cause?”
Indignation rises in your chest. He doesn’t even know you, and he’s already making assumptions? “Hey –”
“Changbin told her to find us if she was lost,” Priestess Yang cuts in smoothly. “If Changbin can trust this sword-bearer, I’m sure you can find it in yourself to do so too, Chan.”
Chan just looks at you with undisguised suspicion in his eyes. You glare back. How dare he assume such things about your character?
“Were you looking for someone, Y/N?” Priestess Yang asks, pulling you out of your annoyance.
“Well, no.” The sheepish smile finds its way back to your face. “I was, um, looking for the showers.”
“Oh, they’re just over there! I’ll show you the way.” She pats Chan’s shoulder. “I’ll see you, Chan.”
Chan smiles briefly, then disappears into the air, leaving behind the faintest scent of grass and springtime.
The priestess laughs at the shocked look on your face. “Chan is our forest guardian,” she explains, leading you onto a dirt path. “He helps keep us safe.”
Uneasiness crawls up your spine. “Is that how he knew I had a sword?”
“Yes.” She nods. “He sees everything, knows of all those who travel the forest. It’s part of his Sight.”
A ripple of annoyance passes through your mind.
All that sight, and he couldn’t help me once? you grumble internally. Thanks a lot, guardian.
Suffice to say, even though Priestess Yang encourages you to have an open mind, your opinion of Chan isn’t the highest.
. . .
The discomfort of being the “new traveler” at the shrine stays for a week or so. By then, most of the residents are more or less used to your presence (you just ignore Chan whenever he gives you one of his suspicious looks), and you’ve carved out a small niche for yourself, taking care of the shrine children.
There are more than you expected, surprisingly. You would’ve thought the shrine was primarily made up of older teens, if anything, who could find their way here. When you mention this to Kevin, he gets a faraway look in his eye. “The shrine opens its arms to the lost,” he says in reply. “It makes itself easier to find for children, because they often can’t journey here themselves.”
“Abusive families?”
Kevin bites his lip. “Yes.”
This knowledge only makes you want to protect them more.
As much as you enjoy talking with Kevin in the garden, it’s so much easier to work with the shrine children, you find. They’re sweet and kind, if rambunctious, and you make it your duty to keep them occupied and safe while the older kids and priestesses work.
“Y/N, Y/N!” One of the older children, Yuna, comes running up one afternoon. “Priestess Jeon said you could take us into the forest for a walk!”
“Who else?” you ask. “Not just you, right?”
“Chaeryeong, Sunwoo, and Eric want to come too.” She looks at you with wide, pleading eyes. “Please?”
Your eyebrows furrow as you weigh the merits and dangers of a walk. It’s going to get dark in a few hours, so you can’t stay out long, but if one of the head priestesses agreed, it couldn’t be too bad of an idea. The kids aren’t too young, either. They’ll listen if something goes wrong.
“If you get one of the messenger boys to come, we can go,” you eventually decide. If something happens, at least you’ll be able to send someone off to get help quickly. Just in case, though, you strap your sword to your side.
Juyeon meets you with the four kids at the shrine’s entrance. Your heart sinks a little – you hoped Yuna would find Kevin – but Juyeon is pleasant enough. He returns the smile you flash at him, anyway.
The walk is uneventful, for the most part. Eric and Yuna pepper you with questions about your work as a knight while Sunwoo and Chaeryeong listen in rapture. Really, it hurts a little to talk about your life in years past, but for the kids, you’ll do it. The smiles on their faces are worth it.
When you start walking back to the shrine, though, the air changes. It doesn’t ripple right – the wind feels strange, somehow evil. Juyeon clearly feels it too, from the way his eyes are darting around the trees. With an unspoken agreement, you begin herding the kids along faster.
There’s barely a change in the wind when the thing – whatever it is – swoops down. Only the blur of a wing in the side of your vision alerts you and you shout, pushing Eric out of the owl’s range and drawing your sword.
“What the fuck is that?” you snap, brandishing your blade.
Juyeon’s face is white as he gathers the children. “Screech owl!”
“Screech owl?”
Then the thing – screech owl, you guess – dives down again, and there’s no time to talk.
“Juyeon!” you yell. “Get them out of here!”
He doesn’t argue, just herds the children together and races away. Smart boy.
You’ve never fought an opponent in the air before. It isn’t fun. The owl is fast, too fast, almost like a damn mosquito racing through the air as you try to squash it, only a million times bigger and fiercer.
Your sword slashes through the air as you duck and twist and hide behind trees, feathers fluttering to the grass all around you. Awful shrieks ring through the air and you honestly can’t tell if it’s you or the bird – all of your senses are jumbled up.
Adrenaline courses through your veins even as the sun sets further, washing the forest in pale evening light. The bird seems to take delight in the onset of night – it swoops faster, hoots louder, and is in general just a much bigger asshole than before (if that was possible).
“ARGH!” A claw slices the top of your shoulder. If I had my armor…
But you don’t, so you duck behind another tree. Think, Y/N, think, you tell yourself as you heave deep breaths. Wait, no, don’t think. Thinking gets you killed.
Just listen.
The air is still. You don’t move a muscle.
Then –
The faintest brush of wind on your left.
Your sword cuts through meat and bone, and the owl falls, dead, at your feet.
For a moment, you just stand there, gasping, staring at the blood dripping off your blade and pooling from the owl’s body.
Gross.
“Thank you.”
For not the first time that afternoon, you let out a deathly screech and leap away. Clapping a hand over your heart, you glare at the newcomer.
“… Chan?”
“That’s my name.” The forest guardian raises an eyebrow, looking faintly amused. “Thank you for killing the owl.”
You just look at him, eyebrows fully wrinkled in annoyance and confusion. “If you wanted the owl dead, why didn’t you kill it yourself? You’re the forest guardian, surely you have the power to do that much.”
“I can’t kill things just because I want to,” Chan replies. It should sound antagonistic, you think, but the look in his eyes is softer than he’s ever looked at you. Appreciative, maybe? “It would upset the forest’s balance if its guardian killed one of those who live in its domain. I can only defend the forest against those that mean it deadly harm, not those that are merely dangerous.”
Wiping your sword on the edge of your tunic, you mull that over. “But if the screech owl was too dangerous, wouldn’t that upset the balance of the forest in the end anyway?”
“We weren’t at that point yet.” Chan raises a shoulder in a half shrug. “But you killed it, so we’ll never know if that would’ve happened.”
“You make that sound like it’s a bad thing.”
He laughs. It’s a surprisingly cheerful sound – you thought it might sound like, you don’t know, someone croaking (look, you never had the greatest opinion of Chan until this point, and that’s still in the air). “I don’t think it is,” he finally says. “And I’m sorry. I was wrong about you being like all of the other sword-bearers who came to this forest. You clearly care for the shrine children.”
An apology. That’s something. Grudgingly, you force yourself to see Chan in a better light. “Apology accepted.”
For a few seconds, you just stand there, feeling the air turn more awkward by the second. “Um –”
“Do you need the way back?” Chan interrupts, a knowing glint in his eye.
By all the spirits, why did you have to meet him when you were lost at the shrine? Now he thinks you’re bad with directions, which you swear you’re really not, you just hadn’t been at the shrine long enough to figure it out.
Embarrassment creeps up your skin as Chan’s smirk grows. “… Yes.”
(And, okay, the forest guardian is a little infuriating and you find yourself wanting to hit him several times on the way back. But really, he isn’t that bad. Though you’d rather die than let him know you think that of him.)
. . .
Chan comes back the next day. You don’t expect him there, especially because he never visits the shrine more than one day in a row, but he surprises you with a smile and the offer of a walk.
“This isn’t your plan for killing a sword-bearer without anyone finding out, is it?” you ask, raising a nonplussed eyebrow as you follow the guardian out of the shrine. You’re not sure why, but it’s so easy to fall into banter with Chan the way you used to joke around with the other knights in the Guard.
Chan snorts. “As a centuries-old guardian of the forest, wouldn’t you think I’d have a little more wisdom than to kill you after several people at the shrine witnessed you leaving with me?”
You very visibly keep a hand on your sword just in case.
“So why did you invite me on a walk?” you ask after several moments. Chan’s bare feet are silent against the grass, but your boots make slightly louder thumps as you step over stones and fallen branches. “I know it wasn’t because of my scintillating personality.”
He stops walking. “I’ve heard you used to be a knight,” he says bluntly. “I wanted to know what kind of sword-bearer you were to leave such a prestigious position and even befriend Changbin, of all people.”
“What’s wrong with befriending Changbin?” you ask, desperately dodging the first part of Chan’s implied questions. “You make it sound like he hates… sword-bearers. He literally dragged me away after I beat up a bunch of men in an alley with my sword so he could clean the one wound I got on my shoulder.”
“Ah. That explains it.” Chan nods. “He saw you do good things with your blade.”
“… Yes?”
“Sword-bearers killed the girl he loved,” Chan explains. “Well, archers, really, but swords were involved.”
You swallow. That explains his wandering tendencies. “Oh. Who sent them?”
“The king of Adment.”
The title brings a scowl to your face. “Oh, him.” You spit. “That would explain it.”
Chan looks at you curiously. “You hold a grudge towards him as well?”
“He was never the friendliest to my kingdom,” is your brief reply before diverting the topic again. “So, is that also the reason you hate sword-bearers in your forest?”
“Whenever sword-bearers trespass, they almost always bring destruction.” Chan’s face turns hard. “I’ve learned not to take chances.”
The ages-old anger in his eyes speaks of a wisdom far older than the youthful form Chan takes. You narrow your eyes. “How old are you, exactly? You said centuries, but how many?”
He smirks, though there’s something weary in his gaze. “I’ve been alive for over a millennium.”
“What?”
“I can tell you more about that another day,” he says, teasing. You want to complain that he can’t leave you on a cliffhanger like that, but the sun is beginning to set, and you have things to do at the shrine. “Do you need an escort?”
You resist the urge to punch him, forest guardian or no. “I’m not that bad with directions,” you grouse. “You just caught me on a bad day. I can find my way back.”
He walks you back to the shrine anyway. And day by day, after every conversation you have, he walks you back as well.
Kevin, when you meet him in the garden, remarks that you seem more cheerful after a few weeks. “You look like you’re anticipating something exciting,” he clarifies when you only dignify him with a confused glance. His lips curl into a smirk. “Something about Chan?”
Kevin probably expects you to hit him or roll your eyes, maybe say something snappy in response. Instead, your face only drops as the meaning of his words hits you.
Do you feel something for Chan?
Well, you love to hear about his life. There are some really exciting stories he’s had after living so long. He’s also pleasant to hang around, and you enjoy talking to him.
It’s just curiosity, nothing romantic, you tell yourself. There’s no attraction. Just a slight friendship, maybe. Nothing more.
Nothing like what you felt for Jacob.
“Y/N – hey, Y/N!”
You blink to see Kevin staring at you in concern. “Are you all right? You zoned out for a minute.”
No, definitely nothing like Jacob. You try to smile at Kevin, pushing thoughts of blond hair and kind eyes out of your mind. That’s stupid – you would never let yourself be swayed so badly again. “I’m fine,” you say, hoping you’re telling the truth. “Let’s go get dinner, yeah?”
. . .
As the weeks pass, you begin to wonder just how much was truthful in what Kevin said.
Walks with Chan have become a regular occurrence, now. When he shows up at the shrine entrance every other afternoon, someone immediately calls for you.
And the worst thing is, you feel excited when you hear your name being called, when you’re with the children or scrubbing dishes or working in the garden. Everyone around gives you a knowing glance and maybe a teasing smile as you rush to see the forest guardian.
One part of you wants it. You want to be able to freely enjoy these walks, feeling the soft earth beneath your boots as you listen to Chan speak. The forest itself is interesting – he shows you the overgrown faerie ring, the water nymph’s pond and the accompanying willow tree – but you think his stories are even more intriguing. You like hearing Chan’s voice. You think you’d like to keep hearing it.
The other part of you doesn’t want this, though, doesn’t want the budding warmth that you feel with the forest guardian, even as the months begin to grow colder. It’s not that it doesn’t feel nice – in fact, this is precisely because it does feel nice. Too nice. You’re starting to feel a stirring in your heart that reminds you of how you felt for Jacob. Though it’s small, very small, it’s there – you can recognize it from the years of heartache you spent watching Jacob fall in love with someone else.
You don’t want that again with Chan.
It shames you to want to run away again, to run away from a place that has provided you with so much comfort in the months past. You love the children, truly, and the friends you’ve made are wonderful. You’ve even started giving Juyeon lessons with your sword. But what other course of action is there? There’s no reason a forest guardian with so many centuries of wisdom would fall for a young, naïve human like you. Here, a love story is even more impossible than one with Jacob.
The decision curdles in your stomach, fills your throat with bitter, hot shame, but it’s necessary, you tell yourself. Better to cut everything off right now, before your emotions grow out of control.
You’re not that important to the shrine, really. You’ve only been there a few months. They’ll survive without you.
You just can’t go through the pain you felt with Jacob ever again.
. . .
You debate avoiding Chan. If he were human, you might actually have chosen that path. But just like you couldn’t avoid Jacob when you fell in love – you were too close, he definitely would’ve noticed – you can’t avoid Chan. He’s the forest’s guardian – he’ll know you’re purposely trying not to be found.
So you decide to cut things off on one of your walks. It feels so simple in your mind – get away from the shrine, then tell him you’re leaving. He won’t care, you tell yourself. It won’t matter to him. And as much as the thought hurts, it’s the better option.
It should be easy, really. Chan gives you the perfect opening – “Why do you look so sad today?” he asks, stopping you by Hyunjin’s pond. The nymph himself doesn’t appear, which you’re very thankful for.
Well, no time like the present. You steel yourself. “I’m going to leave the shrine.”
Chan’s face switches expressions several times within seconds. You watch, feeling a sick sense of dread and relief pooling in your stomach. It’s out there. You’ve said it.
But spirits, why does he look so upset? So angry?
Like you mean something to him?
“Why?” he finally asks.
“Well,” you stammer, his unprecedented reaction sending all of the rehearsed words flying out of your mind, “I – I’ve overstayed my welcome, haven’t I? I’ve been here for months already, and I’ve used the shrine’s hospitality long enough.” His incredulous expression sparks indignation in your chest. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Do you realize how much you do for the shrine?” he snaps. His footsteps, usually so silent, pound on the earth as he steps up to you. “You think you’ve overstayed your welcome – do you know how much I – how much the shrine needs you now?”
How much I?
How much I need you?
How much Chan needs me?
Slip of the tongue. You shake your head, trying your best to ignore it. “All I do is help with the children, work with Kevin in the garden! Chan, I’m easily replaceable – I’m just a poor traveler who was fortunate enough to find the shrine! I’m lucky that you’ve all been so welcoming, but really, it’s time for me to move on.”
“And what about the children? Your friends?” He crosses his arms. “What about me?”
“They’ll live!” you snap. “And what do you mean, what about you?”
Chan growls under his breath. “Are you really trying to say that I mean nothing to you?”
His words hit you like a punch in the gut, like that time Jacob accidentally rammed you in the stomach with the pommel of a sword.
So… not a slip of the tongue.
“Why does it matter that you mean something to me when I don’t mean anything to you?” you finally say.
“And here I thought you were smart,” Chan snaps.
Anger flares in your chest. “I’m serious, Chan! Why would I ever think I meant something to you?” You gesture wildly at the expanse of trees surrounding you. “You’re a millennia-old guardian of a forest of magic. I’m a human who ended up here out of luck. Why, even if I ever felt anything for you, would you feel anything for me? What have I done to merit your attention?”
Chan’s eyes soften slightly. “So many things.”
Taken aback, you flail for words. “Elaborate.”
“You’re a sword-bearer. A kind sword-bearer. A sword-bearer Changbin trusts, enough to divulge his name and travel with for almost a year. A sword-bearer he believed was pure enough of heart to find the shrine – and don’t stop me there, if he hadn’t thought you would be able to find it, he wouldn’t have told you of its existence.” Chan stares at you with that same soft look, that soft look that pierces your heart and makes you feel guilty, so guilty, because you’re not as good, not as kind, not as pure as he thinks you are. “You carved your place in the shrine the first day you spent there. Without anyone asking, you took care of the children and helped Kevin in the garden. You did everything you could to give the children a bit of the love they never might’ve experienced otherwise and protected them from a threat you knew nothing of, something that could have torn you to pieces if you weren’t as trained as you were. You –”
“Stop.”
Chan looks at you, confused. “What –”
“I’m not – I’m not even near the brave person you’re describing,” you snap, tears starting to well in your eyes. “Stop talking about me like I’m some – some spirits-damned martyr, or something –”
“But –”
“And even if I was this, this noble and amazing person you think I am,” you interrupt, tears fighting to slip past your eyes, “how many other men and women at the shrine are the same? Kind, gentle, whatever you want to use to describe me? I’m not special, Chan. I’ve never been.”
Jacob didn’t think you were, at least.
“Y/N, why – just – did you not hear anything I just said about you?” Chan tries to take your hand, but you shy away, pretending the hurt in his eyes doesn’t send knives into your chest. “You earned the trust of a moon child haunted by those who carry blades in a matter of months. Those at the shrine took years to gain his full acceptance. You proved me wrong about sword-bearers. You showed me you were fearless, brave, kind – you are special, Y/N,” he insists, forcing you to meet his eyes. “You’ve shown me that, shown me so much –”
“Stop.”
Your chest is heaving, the tears have spilled out, and you’re fighting for breath. It hurts, it hurts so much that Chan thinks this much of you, but all you are is a coward running away your feelings. “You don’t know,” you gasp, “you don’t know what kind of a person I am. I’m not what you see. How can you –” you angrily brush a tear away – “how can you not see that?”
“Then tell me,” Chan says. “Tell me why you’re so different. Convince me.”
You don’t want to. You don’t want to convince him, you want him to always have that beautiful image of you in his mind – a brave, gentle knight dedicated to protecting those who cannot defend themselves. But he deserves the truth.
And the truth is that you are a coward.
“I left my kingdom because I was in love with my best friend,” you spit. “He married the queen, and I couldn’t do anything but watch. I left because I couldn’t stand to see them so happy together, knowing I would only be on the sidelines of their love for the rest of my life. I left because I couldn’t bring myself to tell him how I felt, couldn’t bring myself to clear the air. I left because I wanted to run away instead of facing my problems, Chan! And even when I knew Jacob would always welcome me back with open arms, even during my darkest moments, I still chose to run away! I chose to find the shrine instead of letting my feelings go and reconciling with my friend. I chose to find the shrine and run away a second time because I couldn’t stand to face him again when I was the one who chose to leave.” A choked sob escapes your lips. “And now I’m running away again, because I thought you could never care for me in the way I’m beginning to care for you. Only you apparently do, but I can’t just stay here and let you love this perfect, noble character who doesn’t exist.”
Silence fills the air. Surely the birds are chirping, the leaves rustling, but you can’t hear anything over the pathetic sounds of you trying to control your tears.
“So now you know,” you croak. “You know the truth behind the coward this knight really is.”
You can’t even meet Chan’s eyes.
“You’re right,” Chan finally says. “For a knight, you’re an awful coward.”
His words stab you in the chest.
“Courage doesn’t constitute running away.”
You can feel the blood dripping out of your heart.
“It means facing your challenges head on, doing what you must.”
You clench your teeth, resolutely looking down at your feet. It’s the truth, you tell yourself. It doesn’t matter if it hurts. It’s the truth.
Then Chan’s trousers enter your vision. You stiffen, ready to back away, but Chan’s already tilting your chin up with one gentle finger so that you’re staring into his eyes. “But you’re brave, Y/N,” he murmurs. “You’re brave when it comes to protecting others, defending the innocent from those who would bring harm.” A small smile curves his lips. “You’re just not too good at protecting yourself.”
You burst into tears. And this time, when Chan presses you into his chest, letting you inhale his woodsy smell of fresh grass and sunlight, you don’t pull away.
. . .
“You don’t have to run away from attachment,” Chan tells you on the walk back to the shrine. “You don’t have to run away from familiarity, from caring about people. We care about you, truly. The children would be heartbroken if you left. So would Kevin and Juyeon and everyone else.” He gives you a gentle smile. “I would be, too.”
Keeping his words in mind, you put away your thoughts of leaving the shrine and try to open your eyes to how much people actually enjoy your presence. Some days, when the self-loathing rises and you don’t want to do anything but run away, it’s hard.
But Chan always finds you, if not the same day, then the day after. He takes you into the woods and tells stories until your sides ache from laughter and the sparkle – or so he tells you – is back in your eyes. With his slow, careful help, you begin to see the small, but visible effects you have on the shrine.
Eric’s and Chaeryeong’s eyes light up when you walk into the room. Sunwoo and Yuna fight for your attention. Juyeon’s calm face breaks into a smile when you show up for his daily swordplay practice, and Kevin laughs with abandon when you crack jokes in the garden. They’re small things, but you realize that leaving the shrine would’ve caused a lot more damage – to you and to them – that you didn’t realize before.
So you cement your place in the shrine, throwing yourself into the daily life of the place you’ve tentatively begun to think of as something deeper than a mere shelter. Juyeon’s interest in swordplay gives you the idea to begin training some of the girls and boys in defense. The priestesses agree after a little convincing – after all, you argue, even if the shrine isn’t threatened very often, dangers like the screech owl crop up every now and then. And if anyone decides to leave the shrine in the future and make their own life, defense could be a very useful skill.
Chan embraces your idea with more warmth than you’d imagine, given his aversion to sword-bearers. When you ask him about it, he just gives you that teasing smile that infuriates and calms you. “I trust you, don’t I?” His smile turns gentler. “You’re a good, brave sword-bearer. I think you’ll be able to keep your pupils from going… astray.”
You certainly do your best. Over several years of training, you watch Juyeon, Kevin, Yeji, and Lia grow into formidable opponents. Sunwoo takes more of an interest in archery after you fashion him a crude bow and arrow, practicing with the (kind of terrible) weapons until you buy him proper set in town.
Life goes on, and it goes well. Shrine life is peaceful as new residents enter – the newest resident, Haknyeon, is adorable – and you grow into yourself as the months go by. Chan never presses his feelings, only treats you the same way he always did until you’re ready to accept his care.
“Are you sure?” he asks when you tell him, eyes sparkling with hope and love and uncertainty all at once.
Your heart blossoms with love for the forest guardian. “Yes.” You smile. “I think I love myself enough to allow you to love me too.”
His lips taste like spring, like golden sunlight filtered through verdant leaves. Pressed against his chest, you feel safe, delicate in the touch of his fingers splayed gently across your back, strong in the warmth of his arms around your waist.
Oh, Chan makes you feel loved, loved in a way that slowly erases the self-loathing you’ve carried for so long, in a way that makes you feel brave enough to remain standing with each passing day. And even though you’ve still got a long way to go, you take comfort in the knowledge that Chan, your forest guardian, will always be there for you.
. . . . .
News doesn’t come often to the small village just outside the forest, so when there’s gossip that doesn’t pertain to the whereabouts about one villager or another, it’s worth listening to. This time, it’s a kingdom at war with another.
“Which kingdoms?” you ask idly, examining an apple.
“One is Adment,” the shopkeeper replies. You snort, a sentiment he laughs with. “Which was the other, honey?” he yells to his wife in the back of the stall.
“Was it Callia?” she yells back.
You don’t laugh when the apple drops from your hand.
Trying not to visibly show your distress, you wave off the shopkeeper’s worry at your expression and hurry to finish the shopping. To your luck, when you make it back to the shrine, Chan is already there, conversing with one of the priestesses.
“Y/N!” His smile drops slightly when he takes in your expression. The priestess quietly excuses herself. “Did something happen?”
“Callia – Callia is at war with Adment.” You swallow hard, trying to steady your voice. “Jacob’s kingdom. At war with the one that killed Changbin’s love.”
Chan’s face turns hard. “I see.”
“I – I feel like I need to do something.” You gaze at him, begging him to understand everything you can’t put into words. “Chan, I feel like I have to go back and help, somehow.”
Chan’s eyes are gentle but unreadable as he grasps your hand firmly in his. “You should do what you think is right,” he says quietly.
What I think is right.
What I think is right.
What do I think is right?
Your mind races with panic, but one thought emerges, crystal clear in certainty.
“Yes,” you whisper, more to yourself than Chan. “I’ll do what is right.”
. . .
The priestesses give you their blessing to return to the kingdom you used to call home. Juyeon, Kevin, Lia, and Sunwoo volunteer to come with you as well, even though you try to dissuade them repeatedly with how dangerous it’ll be. They could die, you stress – this is war, after all. But they insist.
You put off saying goodbye to Chan until the day before you leave. He’s the one who finds you, actually – he has something to say, apparently, before you go.
It feels so strange, walking with Chan through the forest with the knowledge that you may never come back. It’s not like you’re a stranger to the evils of war – every time you rode into battle as a knight, you knew there was a high likelihood that you would die.
But it’s different, now. Jacob and your fellow Guards knew the risks of war – you were all seasoned fighters, trained in tactics and stealth and strategy. Here, you only have a very small group of fighters – reasonably good for the amount of training they’ve had, but lacking in true experience. They won’t understand the true horror of battle until they’ve experienced it themselves.
There’s something else, too. You’re leaving behind someone you love for the first time, someone who cannot come and fight by your side.
“Can I go first?” you ask, stopping by Hyunjin’s pond. You want to see the still waters one more time before you leave.
Chan nods. “Of course.”
“I…” You look down, mustering your courage. “I wanted to tell you that I love you.”
For a moment, there’s just silence. Then a sudden flush spreads across Chan’s cheeks.
It bolsters your confidence. “I know I don’t say it often,” you continue, enjoying the shyness on your guardian’s face, “but I really do. I wanted you to know that I’m not going off to help Jacob’s kingdom because I love him the way I used to, but because I still care about him as a friend.” You gaze into Chan’s clear eyes. “I love you very much, and I wanted to tell you that before I left.”
He presses a soft kiss to your forehead. “I never thought you were going to war out of romantic love for Jacob,” he says quietly. “You don’t need to worry about that, ever. I trust you.”
Your heart explodes with warmth. “So what is it that you had to tell me?”
“I never told you how forest guardians are chosen, did I?” Chan asks.
You shake your head. “No.”
“Well, sit down, and I’ll tell you now.” He smiles. “It’s a long story.”
Chan tells you of his first life as an oread, a mountain spirit settled in the craggy cliffs not too far from the forest. He tells you of the last guardian before him, a teasing fae named Jaebum.
“A fae?” you interrupt. “Isn’t that… not a good idea?” As lovely as Han and his lady are – you’ve met them several times by now – you wouldn’t exactly call him a suitable guardian. You’d say the same and more for his more sinister counterparts.
“Jaebum was different,” Chan says. “He cared deeply for the forest. After the two centuries I knew him, he found someone to love, to grow old with over time. He asked me to be forest guardian after he died.”
“So the current forest guardian chooses the next when they feel their time is over?” you clarify.
Chan nods, gazing into your eyes. “Yes.”
And all of a sudden, you understand.
“Chan, you –” You have to clear away the emotion rising in your throat. “You want to pass on the guardianship for me? To whom?”
“I’ve spoken to Changbin.” Chan smiles. “He was very receptive to the idea.”
“But – Chan, for me?” The old uncertainty starts to plague your mind. “Chan, I’m just… I’m just me.”
“Exactly.” Chan takes your hands in his. “You’re you. And I want to grow old with you. Live life with you. Don’t try to argue with me – this is something I know I want.”
You can’t even speak through the tears running down your face. “Chan –”
“Come here.” He wraps you in his warm arms. “I love you, Y/N. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
For how long you stay there, crying into Chan’s embrace, you don’t know. By the time you’re coherent enough to pull back, it feels like it’s been an eternity.
“So now you have to come back.” Chan smiles, though you can see a glimmer of fear, of uncertainty in his gaze. “You have to stay safe and come back for me, all right?”
“Yeah.” Hyunjin suddenly appears from the pond and you literally shriek, toppling backwards onto the grass. “You have to come back to Chan, or he’ll mope around for millennia and send the forest into ruin.” The nymph smirks, though you can see real concern hidden in his eyes.
“Like you moped for centuries over your cloud nymph?” Chan retorts, lips curved in an exasperated smile.
Hyunjin sniffs. “Details,” he says haughtily, already sinking back into his pool. He sends you a glance, though, that’s full of meaning.
You must come back. Don’t leave Chan waiting.
You make a silent promise that you won’t.
. . .
The next day, your cohort wakes up early. After yawning through a quick breakfast, you quickly gather your belongings and meet up at the front of the shrine. Several of the priestesses cluck over you like mother hens checking on their chicks, and you dutifully take their warnings and cautions with as light a smile as you can muster.
Chan shows up just as you’re about to go. The others thankfully leave you two alone for a bit (though you scowl at Kevin’s smirk and Lia’s whistle).
You don’t talk much, just stay wrapped in each other’s arms for several minutes. Eventually, though, dawn breaks. It’s time to leave.
“Be brave,” Chan whispers as you pull away.
You smile. “I’ll come back.”
With one last kiss that tastes of spring greenery, you leave the shrine. When you look back, Chan’s already disappeared.
. . .
It’s a long two years spent away from the shrine. The pace is difficult on your friends, who have only known the shrine as a home for so many years. For you, it’s a bit easier – you’ve been a traveler for a good few years, and it doesn’t take too long to settle back into the wanderer’s mindset, moving around, never staying in one place too long.
But they don’t complain. They’re strong, resilient, and resourceful – more so, really, than some of the knights you knew on the Guard. With their help, you launch quiet strikes at the border of Adment and Callia, taking down Adment’s forces small legion by small legion. Your group becomes known for your silent ambushes, though you take care to keep your identities hidden.
It’s like being a knight again on a smaller scale – planning attacks and carrying them out, knowing that you might lose your life or your friends along the way. It isn’t entirely unwelcome. Fighting still gives you that adrenaline rush, that grim, satisfying knowledge that you’re doing something to protect the people you love.
At the same time, though, it isn’t as fulfilling as it used to be. This life of fighting battles isn’t for you anymore. Yes, you will fight to defend, but you’ve found other ways to protect your loved ones, too.
It just cements the fact that you don’t think you’ll ever come back to Callia to stay.
Finally, Adment surrenders. You’re glad, truly – you’re ready to return to the shrine, as are your friends. As you begin the trek back through some of the rural villages, though, a few posters catch your eye. They spell out a request for the unknown border attackers to come forth to the palace and be honored for their aid in the war.
They know your story, Lia, Juyeon, Kevin, Sunwoo. It was only fair that you told them – how could you lead them to possible death without knowing why you came in the first place, why this was so important to you?
So you ask them. “Do you want to reveal yourselves?”
“I don’t think it’s a question of us,” Juyeon says quietly. “It’s about you.”
“Yes,” Lia echoes. “We’ll follow you, whatever you decide.”
Their trust still astounds you, even after so many years spent trying to dilute the self-loathing that used to plague your brain. “Give me a day to think,” you eventually say. “If you say you’ll follow me, I’ll let you know tomorrow.”
You stay up all night, debating. Your friends have already spent so long away from their home, fighting a war on your behalf. Is it worth it to take the extra few weeks spent traveling to and from the palace? Would it be fair to ask them to journey with you for even longer?
No, Y/N. You shake your head. They asked you to decide, which means they want a decision based on your feelings, on your desires. They’re kind enough to know that this must be your choice to make.
You sigh, leaning back against a sturdy tree. Why are you so hesitant about seeing Jacob again, anyway? You don’t love him anymore, not the way you used to. It doesn’t hurt you as much to think of him. Spirits, you even came all this way to help him in a war you weren’t even involved in.
Maybe you’re afraid that you’ll fall in love with him again, a tiny voice in your head suggests. Maybe you’re afraid that you’ll want to stay.
Oh.
That’s probably it.
Pressing the heels of your palms into your eyes, you sigh again. You love Chan. You love the shrine. You’ve realized that fighting battles as a knight isn’t the way you want to spend the rest of your life. But you’re still afraid that seeing Jacob again will awaken feelings for him once more.
Wait. You sit up, frowning into the darkness. For your feelings to awaken, they would still have to exist.
You don’t love Jacob anymore. The thought of him doesn’t make your heart thump anymore, doesn’t choke your throat with emotions anymore.
Logically, rationally, seeing him again wouldn’t hurt the way it used to.
But love isn’t rational, the oh-so-helpful part of your mind pipes up.
You scowl. Stop making this decision harder.
As the fire dies to glowing coals, as your friends quietly snore throughout the night (except Sunwoo, he snores very loudly), you sit there, mind warring with fear.
By morning, you’ve made your decision.
. . .
The palace is almost the same as you remembered – high, polished stone walls surrounded by a bustling marketplace and lush gardens. The grass looks a bit wilted and the market chatter sounds subdued, but the kingdom has just gone through a war. You would be more worried, really, if everything looked exactly as beautiful as it used to be.
Anxiety bursts in your chest as you slip through the crowds, face covered in a scarf, getting closer and closer to the palace. Three of the Guard stand sentinel at front gates, and even though you’re too far away to see their faces, you’re sure you’d recognize at least a couple of them up close.
“Breathe,” Kevin whispers helpfully next to you. “You’ll be fine.”
You nod shakily. “Yeah.”
Two of the Guard cross their spears over the gates as you approach. The third steps forward, meeting your gaze.
Your heart skips a beat at the sight of an old friend. Changmin!
“State your business,” Changmin says, eyes unmoved. It stings a little that he doesn’t recognize you, but it’s understandable. You’ve both changed over the years – you’ve grown out your hair, while he’s cut his shorter, and he’s lost the last baby fat from his cheeks – and you have a scarf covering half of your face.
“I have business with the king,” you reply, heart hammering in your chest. “I believe my presence was specifically requested, along with that of my friends from the border.”
Faint recognition lights Changmin’s eyes, though they also narrow in slight confusion. He looks at you for a second, gaze piercing yours.
“Is something wrong?” you ask. “We can leave our weapons at the gates, if you wish.”
Changmin shakes his head, shoulders slumped in resignation. “No, I just thought you sounded like someone I once knew.” He looks down. “She had a sword like yours, too.”
Your heart hammers at your old friend’s words. What would he say if he did know it was you?
His voice cuts through your panicked thoughts. “May I have a name by which to introduce you to His Majesty?”
Last chance, you tell yourself. Last chance to turn back.
You won’t lie – the choice sounds appealing, at least to your pounding heart. Glancing up at the high stone walls, you feel the old urge to run away.
You could. You could turn away from the gates right now, leave Changmin remembering someone who will never return. You could travel back to the shrine and forget this ever happened.
But Chan told you to be brave. And being brave doesn’t only apply to war.
You pull down your scarf, smiling at the incredulous expression spreading over Changmin’s face. “You can tell him an old friend’s come back to visit.”
. . .
After yelling at you for never visiting and punching you at least ten times (your arm is so, so sore, but as he reminds you, you should just be glad he didn’t challenge you to a duel right then and there), Changmin brings you into one of the waiting rooms. “I’ll find you and bite you if I come back and see that you’ve disappeared again,” he threatens before heading back into the halls.
Sunwoo raises an eyebrow, looking mildly disturbed. “Bite you?”
You snort, smiling widely. “Long story.”
Too soon, though, there’s another set of footsteps echoing outside of the room. The smile slowly starts to slip off your face, and your heart, previously calmed by Changmin’s characteristic welcome, starts to pound again.
Be brave. Chan’s voice speaks in your mind. Be brave.
You steel yourself.
Then Jacob appears in the doorway, and the room feels like it’s falling away.
. . .
By the time your mind has caught up to the present, you’re wrapped in Jacob’s strong arms, in one of those Jacob hugs that you used to yearn for every day. It’s comforting, warm, but to your pleasant surprise, there’s no hurt. No pain.
You only feel happy.
“You came back,” Jacob whispers, more to himself than to you. “You came back.”
You just laugh, squeezing your best friend harder. “I did.”
Thankfully, your friends understand that you need some time with Jacob alone. Changmin leads them out, already bickering with Sunwoo (how they became friends so quickly, you’re not sure you want to know). In the silence of the room, you and Jacob just stare at each other for a moment.
“I –”
“What –”
You burst into laughter and Jacob joins in, feeling heady with absolute bliss and relief that your worst fears haven’t been realized. You haven’t fallen back in love with Jacob at first sight. His mere presence doesn’t make you want to stay.
“You first,” Jacob finally says when you’ve calmed down. “You first.”
The laughter disappears from your throat as your smile dims. “I never told you the full reason why I left.”
Jacob is a good listener, a fact that you’re grateful for. If he’d interrupted you at any point, you aren’t sure you would’ve been able to continue. Still, though, it’s harrowing, recounting the love you felt for your best friend for so long.
“When I left the first time, I didn’t have any intention of returning.” You state the harsh truth with a bitter taste in your mouth. “I couldn’t bring myself to tell you about what I felt, so seeing you only hurt. I didn’t… I didn’t want to feel any more pain.”
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” Jacob’s eyes are cloudy, filled with pain on your behalf. “I’m so sorry. If I’d known…”
“Stop.” You put a hand on his shoulder. “One reason I didn’t tell you was because I knew you’d blame yourself. It isn’t your fault. None of it is.”
Jacob sits in silence for a moment. “But you did come back.”
“I did.” A small smile curves your lips. “I found a place that took me in, allowed me to try and find myself once more. I found someone who helped me heal. So when I heard about the war, I didn’t have qualms about coming to help. It was something… I knew it was something I had to do.”
Jacob’s eyes clear. “I see. Your someone, your, um…”
“Husband,” you offer. It’s the closest thing to what Chan is to you that Jacob would understand.
He nods. “Your husband didn’t come?”
“No.” You shake your head. “I came with friends. We have our own things to protect, back at home.”
Home. That word surprises you as it leaves your lips. Home.
The forest, the shrine is your home.
It’s the first time you’ve made this connection. With the realization, a sudden burst of warmth fills your chest.
“I see.” Jacob leans forward, looking genuinely happy for you. “Things are going well, then?”
Briefly, you wonder if you should tell him about the shrine. You decide not to. That’s your secret to keep, at least for now.
“Yes, they are.” A smile involuntarily spreads across your face. “Very well.”
For a moment, the two of you just sit in comfortable silence. Then Jacob speaks. “Can I persuade you again to stay?” he asks, though from the look in his eye, you’re pretty sure he already knows your answer. “You can bring your husband and friends. There will always be a place for you here.”
It feels like you’re being thrown back in time to that day in the training room, just a few months before you left. Your answer is still the same as it was then, so many years ago.
But you have something else to add.
You shake your head. “Not this time, Jacob.” Your smile grows smaller, but softer. “Though I do promise I’ll visit you again.”
. . .
On the horses Jacob gifted you, it only takes a few weeks to return to the forest. You see the children and the priestesses first, waiting at the front of the shrine, followed by the other maidens and messenger boys. Their shouts of welcome bring a smile to your face.
Then Chan appears when you’re riding up to the gates, crushing you in a hug almost before you’ve leapt off your horse.
You lose yourself in your guardian’s warmth, in the strength of his arms wrapped around your body. It feels so similar to Jacob’s hugs, so comforting and soft and strong, but also so uniquely Chan. You laugh into his chest, tears beginning to stream down your face.
“I’m back,” you gasp between the tears. “I’m back, Chan.”
“I know,” he whispers, only holding you closer. “I know.”
A blissful eternity passes, wrapped in Chan’s arms, until he pulls back the slightest bit, just enough to press a long-awaited kiss on your lips. “You’re back,” he says one more time, as though he still can’t quite believe it.
“I am,” you confirm. “I did it, Chan.”
He knows. He knows, looking into your eyes, what you mean by “it.” He knows you don’t just mean that you fought Adment, that you came home alive. He knows there’s something more.
Something involving a certain past love.
Warm, warm pride blooms in Chan’s eyes. “Were you brave?”
Memories race through your mind – staunching bloody wounds, trekking through the forests at the border – but you know that isn’t what Chan means. He knows you can be brave in the midst of battle, brave in protecting those you love the most.
He wants to know if you were brave with him.
Your eyes twinkle as you remember the palace gates, seeing Changmin again, landing in Jacob’s arms once more. You remember his soft voice, his kind eyes full of real, platonic care, a memory you’ll treasure for years to come.
Where you once might have grimaced at the thought of your old home, now, the smile on your face only broadens with every passing second.
“Yes.” Your laughing gaze sparkles into Chan’s proud eyes. “I was.”

i would like more soundcloud rapper yoongi x idol y/n please it’s so cute
v-live alert! -myg
Tumblr media
pairing: idol! y/n x soundcloud rapper! yoongi
wc; 2.9k
a/n: lots of you asked, and so you shall receive. ps, i wrote this really rushed but i kinda love it. lmk what you think, love you guys <3
[V LIVE] Surprise LIVE!
the v-live notification. or, more accurately, the sound of war. alternatively, you dance around your studio on a livestream and yoongi has a mental breakdown.
masterlist  PREV
“i miss you too!“ you say, replying to one of the first comments that pop up on the live.
you probably should’ve showered before going live... and you probably should’ve changed out of sweats.
whatever.
it’s not like your fans haven’t seen this before.
half of your pre-debut pictures are just downright disgusting.
the number of viewers on the top of your phone begins to climb up to the thousands, increasing every half a second.
it always amazes you how many people show up to your lives. sometimes you wonder if your fans genuinely have nothing better to do. how do they always show up so fast?
the comments begin to flood with greetings and exclamations of ‘oh my god i’m so early!11!1’ and the multicoloured heart pop up on your screen, building up an impressive stream of likes.
“where am i?“ you read through the comments and look around, as if you forgot where you were. “in the studio.“ you grin when the comments flood with questions asking if dreamcloud is getting new music.
you can’t answer, of course, but it’s fun to see. you squint at your phone, which is propped on an elaborate setup that you spent the past twenty minutes preparing.
(three books on one eyeshadow palette and a selfie stick gingerly placed on a small stool)
((you pray to every deity out there that it won’t fall))
“i was just bored,“ you shrug, speaking to the screen. “so i decided to come on here and talk to you guys. how have you been?“ you ask.
hundreds of comments answer.
“i’m alright“
“i’m good!“
most of them contain some form of sappy declaration like ‘my day is much better now that you’re here!’ it makes you smile. how cute.
the v-live notification.
or, more accurately, the sound of war.
that cursed, terrible ding! haunts yoongi’s darkest and most terrifying nightmares. the sheer amount of panic that rushes through his veins when he hears that godforsaken noise, god.
the number of lives he’s missed- yoongi can’t even bear to think about it.
so maybe it was a blessing in disguise that yoongi put his phone on do not disturb so he didn’t have to hear that disgusting sound. instead, he found out the news via a gorilla’s screech.
“Y/N’S LIVE RIGHT NOW STARTED FOURTY SECONDS AGO HURRY UP YOONGI GET YOUR ASS UP AND STOP STUDYI-“ jimin yells from his room down the hall.
yoongi almost falls out of his chair scrambling to get to his phone. it’s not like he was really studying anyways- more like using his pencils to tap out a cool-sounding beat on his desk out of boredom.
watching your live > passing his music theory class.
priorities.
with shaky hands, he grabs at his phone, slumping onto the floor and he sees the familiar blue icon with the notification popped up on the screen.
[V LIVE] Surprise LIVE! Y/N: let’s chat <3
an unnatural squeak that slightly resembles the sound a mouse slips out of yoongi’s mouth.
even when he was a baby starrie and was glued to his phone at all times, he’s never been this early to a live. he unlocks his phone, cursing his momentary clumsiness. he clicks into the live, smiling when your beaming face blasts up on his screen.
you haven’t gone live in so long- it’s nice to see your face again.
“- how have you been?“
“good.“ yoongi types out in the comment box, mumbling the words as he’s typing. “way better now that you’re live.“ sometimes yoongi cringes at himself when he types these things. i mean, who could possibly guess that min yoongi, resident scary-emo-couldslapyouintheface bad boy socially un-responsible simped over a k-pop idol?
he can already see his reputation go down the drain.
he also wonders what it says about himself that he’s a 20-something college student who’s life practically revolves around you, an idol who’s just about a year younger than him.
but dreamcloud is a part of his identity now. he identifies as a starrie no matter what. you know how the old saying goes-
once you stan, you can’t unstan. or something like that, he’s honestly not sure.
you tuck your head onto your hand, diligently trying to keep up with all the comment. with a gasp, you nod at something. “oh, you’re right, user yoonalova98!” - that’s another thing special about you. whenever you read out comments, you also read out the username of whoever wrote it.
you explained in one interview- that it’s cooler to give credit and talk to your fans as if you’re just chatting as friend. saying the username feels like you’re saying their names.
what kind of lucky fan would get their comment read aloud by Y/N?
ugh.
yoongi blinks when he remembers that technically, he’s sort of part of this group of elite, recognised fans.
his twitter stan account got almost five thousand more followers after Y/N replied to his selca. the post itself has tons and tons of likes and retweets.
insane, that Y/N- Y/N herself- knows of his existence. Y/N- the love of his life, has seen his FACE. she commented three HEART emojis below a selfie that he took.
if he thinks about it too much, he’ll start feeling faint again.
“our anniversary is coming up soon! i can’t believe it’s been three years already. time does pass by when you’re having fun.“ you say. yoongi thinks that it’s rather ironic that you would forget your anniversary, when yoongi’s had a calendar countdown to January 14th since the beginning of september.
“ahh,“ you say, leaning in closer to the screen. “from user lialiarach, ‘did you watch jisoo unnie’s acting debut’ - i did! we all watched it and cheered her on during the premiere!“
jisoo’s new drama is good. it’s a fantasy-horror blend, and he, jimin, namjoon and jin finished all 16 episodes in two days when streaming hit Netflix.
your head tilts and you smile. “song recommendations?” you wonder aloud, and yoongi scrambles to get a pen and notepad out. you don’t do ‘y/n’s listening parties’ as much anymore, but your taste in music is impeccable and he collects all the songs in a playlist.
it’s called ‘wedding tunes’ (jimin named it, not him, yoongi swears)
everytime he tries to change it back, it somehow switches back to wedding tunes the next day.
it’s disturbing how good jimin is at this kind of stuff. hopefully yoongi won’t have to bail him out of jail one day.
“okay!“ you say, pulling your laptop open. you hum as you scroll through some page that yoongi can’t see- and he anxiously waits for the first song to be played with twitchy hands and a strong grip on his pen.
the first bar plays out and yoongi’s already in love.
“this is,“ you say over the music, double checking just to make sure. “don’t need your love by NCT...“ you squint. god knows there are too many NCT members. “dream! NCT dream featuring HRVY.“
“NCT dream...“ yoongi mumbles to himself, writing the song down on the notepad.
“you know,“ you say over the music, spinning in your chair and nodding to the beat. “i’ve only met the NCT guys a couple times at music shows and such but they’re all so nice. i can’t remember all their names, but i’m decently familiar with their faces. how do they even have 23 members? how does it all work??“
you dance around the studio, singing along nonsensical lyrics that don’t make sense but sort of fit the rhythm of the song (??)
“don’t need your loo-ooove-!!! dum dum duhhhh duhros noya!!!” yoongi stifles a laugh. there’s a reason why you constantly forget lyrics on stage.
which is quite ironic, actually, because half the time you’re forgetting the lyrics to a song you wrote yourself.
afterwards, you play all the hidden gems- and yoongi’s proud to say he’s familiar with quite a few of them.
airplane by j-hope (a youtube star turned successful rapper-vocalist-dancer)
sweet night by v (the internet’s resident eye-candy)
and then you continue to scroll through your laptop, biting your lip and murmuring quietly to yourself. you glance once back at your phone screen.
okay, listen.
yoongi knows that he’s delusional, okay?
but everytime you look straight in the screen it’s almost like you’re looking directly at the camera it’s almost like you’re staring into his soul. which makes zero sense, but it still makes his heart skip a beat.
let him dream, please
“what am i scrolling through?“ you say, reciting a question from the chat. “soundcloud, user chachachae.“
soundcloud?
oh.
that’s pretty cool.
he didn’t know you had a soundcloud account!
you usually post all your covers and random shorts to instagram or another one of your personal blogs.
for a moment, yoongi indulges himself by wondering if you’d ever listened to his music. his soundcloud account is linked in his twitter bio, after all...
but he shakes those thoughts away as fast as they came. he doesn’t need to entertain himself with such silly thoughts.
“ooh, this one’s good!“ you say, clicking onto something.
still with you by JAYKAY (pffftt haihdkahjd) starts playing and you lean back, humming along. yoongi knows this one too!! now he’s 3 for 3!! he and you do share a similar taste in music, so maybe it does make sense.
even though you’re actually main vocalist and lead dancer, you do listen to a lot of rap music. but the music you make is nothing like the old school hip hop tracks that yoongi is partial to.
the music you make- how can he explain it?
sweet like honey with a little bit of tang.
like barbecue honey!!!!
ok that was a bad analogy.
all of his favourite dreamcloud tracks are written by you- cloud nine, up in the sky, are u still here, quicksand- the list goes on and on and on.
it’s like listening to your voice solves anything he goes against. bad day? dreamcloud. something to celebrate? blast your debut song. in need of a party song? easy fix. he gets aux cord rights? (granted, this doesn’t happen very often, since seokjin insists that his music taste is superior to his friends.) but anyways, y/n can fix it.
listening to your voice feels comforting. it invokes something in him that he honestly cannot explain with words. you’re his inspiration. not just in music- but in life. he admires how you’re able to smile through anything, how you take responsibility for your own actions.
he admires your kind heart, which offers generosity and forgiveness to even the most underserving people.
he admires your passion, for music, for your members, for the smallest things. he admires how you’ll love everyone and anyone.
even though he’s never really met you, he feels like he knows you. he wishes he could, anyways. he wants to thank the person who’s gotten him through such bad days.
yoongi curses himself again for being so delusional.
he keeps telling himself that he can’t get so attached. then he’ll end up like one of those creepy fans who are convinced their idols actually like them.
blech.
“okay, next song!“ you exclaim cheerfully. “i really like this one, guys. he’s this soundcloud star. he makes really cool music.“ yoongi readies his pen. if this person really is a soundcloud star, then there’s a high chance yoongi knows of him. a smaller chance that he actually knows the guy personally; either online or from real life.
you press the space bar almost obnoxiously, like you’re about to reveal something grand. you look into the camera, and you lock eyes with yoongi- through that cursed, horrible screen.
the first note plays and yoongi thinks that it sounds... oddly familiar, actually. for a moment, he sighs in disappointment. this one doesn’t sound as great as the previous few songs. almost like it’s incomplete, imperfect. something about it bugs him at the very bottom of his gut.
jimin figures it out before he does.
“AHHHHHHHHH YOONGI!!! OH MY GOD-!!!! YOONGI ARE YOU SEEING THIS? YOONGI!! HYUNG!“ yoongi grumbles, wondering what the hell jimin is screeching about now.
“oh, for fuck’s sake,“ he mumbles. the difference between him and jimin is the way they express their emotions. while yoongi bottles it all up, choosing to deal with things alone and slump around, jimin has no other choice but to scream things out. it’s a wonder they’re such good friends, really. “what is it now?“ yoongi mutters to himself.
“yeah yeah, a gentle breeze- “ and then it hits him. all at once.
“holy fucking shit.“ he whispers to himself, slumping down on the floor. he can barely hear what you say next.
“this song is called people by agust d. he goes by the name suga on social media-!“ yoongi falls down, gasping for air. “i’m a fan,“ you remark casually. “mr. suga producer-nim!! i’m your fan! please continue to make good music!“ you chuckle. “what am i doing right now? he probably isn’t even watching.“ you stare innocently at the phone camera, as if you don’t even know that you’re changing someone’s life right now.
out of his peripheral vision, he can see jimin rushing into the room, crouching next to him and placing a hand on his back, murmuring something yoongi can’t hear through the sound of his sobs.
huh. when did he even start crying?
“he makes rap and really cool hip hop music. you guys should give him a listen. his lyrics are really meaningful, too.“ you nod along, reciting the lyrics word for word- even though you really can’t rap.
“what kind of person am I? am I a good person? or a bad person? many of ways to judge just a person. everyone will live on, everyone will love, everyone will fade away“ you headbang along to the beat.
yoongi slides down the wall inch by inch. he wonders if he’ll faint or vomit first.
other people seem to make fun of people like him- people who find solace in idols, in music. that’s partially why he doesn’t like disclosing the fact that he’s a diehard fan of an idol girl group.
but in hindsight, that’s so stupid. who gives two fucks about his interests? hell, yoongi’s been depressed half his life. and if a group of girls who sing songs and perform make him feel better, what’s so wrong with that?
jimin’s voice is a little clearer now, and so is yours. you’re singing along to the lyrics- the lyrics that he wrote. the lyrics that he spent hours agonising over, wondering whether his shortcomings and anxiety in his life were worth posting on the internet for his measly following to see.
wondering if the music he made had any impact at all, if one day he might see his dream come true, to see his music being played in public. wondering if anyone might hear his songs and think that it helped them get over a bad day. just like you have for him.
yoongi’s sobs wrack through his body, tears flowing freely on his face. he’s crying hard. ugly crying, like a baby throwing a temper tantrum. his cries echo through the room. if he could see himself right now...
well, he doesn’t want to think about it. he’s sure it’s not a pretty view.
jimin looks over him, smiling proudly. his eyes are glassy, and he tucks yoongi’s head in his chest, putting his arms around him and embracing him.
yoongi’s shoulders shake. if it was any other day, he would usher jimin out the room. he hates it when people see him being vulnerable. even his own family hasn’t seen him cry that much.
but right now, he can’t bring himself to do anything but cry. other people may ask why this is such a big deal, why someone emotionally constipated like min yoongi would cry like this for such a small matter.
this, he doesn’t know how to explain either.
all he can think about is how much it means to him. that someone he admires so much is now, in turn, saying his music- no, his life- is good. nothing much else. but just knowing that you’ve listened to his work, that you know of his alter ego’s name...
his crying sounds grow larger.
jimin pets at his hair. “shh,” he murmurs. “it’s okay.” jimin’s voice also grows a little shaky. he tears up, but continues to comfort the crying boy in his arms. “you did it, hyung. it’s okay. you made it. you did it. why are you crying? this is good news! this is so great! i’m proud of you, we’re all so proud of you.”
yoongi tries to speak; it doesn’t go very well. but when he tries again, he manages to choke something out.
“i did it.“ he says, before burying his face back into jimin’s hug. the two boys sit on the ground, crying together. an hour passes, then two.
slowly, yoongi drifts off to bed on the ground, the melody of his own song blended with sound of your voice echoing in his head.
my ordinary became your special, my special became your ordinary. so what? what if you just brush by? what if you get hurt? sometimes you might get hurt again, sometimes you might shed tears. so what? so what if you live like that?

hey!! i loved your hoo playlist! can you explain more or less where which book begins and ends? or just your thought process behind picking the songs?
omg hi!! this is going to be really long I’m so sorry... I vaguely broke them up by book and sorta character/event/theme, it’s not super strict or anything but that was the logic!
I kinda imagine it playing out like a movie or tv series.. and so some of these kinda play over a scene or transition to the credits in my head? some more than others! otherwise it’s like punny titles or just songs that remind of plot points!
Lost Hero
Tumblr media
- Goodbye Stranger - for Jason, since he has no idea what’s going on lol
- Teenage Dream - for the three of them, but mostly Piper!
You think I'm pretty without any makeup on You think I'm funny when I tell the punch line wrong
- Parachute - kinda Jason and Piper, I think as she realizes their relationship isn’t quite what it seems? (and just playing with his flying lol!)
- Metal Guru - Leo!
- Pretty Girl - Piper, I was imagining this when she clashes with Drew/learns about the Aphrodite cabin
And I could be a pretty girl Shut up when you want me to And I could be a pretty girl Won't ever make you blue And I could be a pretty girl I'll lose myself in you
- The Sky’s The Limit - when the three of them take off on Festus
- Snowqueen Of Texas - this was for Khione lol
I'm on my knees, your majesty; Snowqueen, save a cold kiss for me I'm on my knees your majesty
- Sweet Talkin’ Woman - this is book-wide but it’s for Piper’s charmspeak!
- Are You Gonna Be My Girl - is sorta general but I was imagining it when Jason and Piper kinda decide to be together/give it another go
- It’s Not Unusual - I think this was sorta the entire book/wider series but I just think it’s cute and fun and a Guardians of the Galaxy type end credits song? And just them accepting their very bizarre situation
Son of Neptune + Mark of Athena
I put these together because there wasn’t really a set bookend in my head!
Tumblr media
- Hello Stranger - finally reuniting with Percy! (and I wanted the Percy and Jason songs to mirror each other)
Hello stranger (Ooh) It seems so good to see you back again How long has it been? (Ooh it seems like a mighty long time)
- Diamonds - Hazel
- Don’t Go Breaking My Heart - Frank trusting Hazel with the wood, also Percy + Annabeth, everyone really
Don't go breaking my heart You take the weight off of me Oh, honey when you knock on my door Ooh, I gave you my key
- Beautiful Soul - I literally don’t know why I added this I just wanted an excuse to add a Jesse McCartney song (which feels so tonally correct to me?) but also I think it’s Frank liking Hazel in spite of her big secret and Percy loving Annabeth
- Pocketful of Rainbows - encountering Iris!
I don't worry Whenever skies are gray above Got a pocketful of rainbows Got a heart full of love
- Am I The Same Girl - Annabeth’s POV upon reunion!
Why don´t you stop And look me over Am I the same girl you used to know?
Why don´t you stop And think it over Am I the same girl who knew your soul?
- Bizarre Love Triangle - Frank, Hazel, and Leo
- Treasure - Hazel again + the literal treasure?
Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl you should be smiling (you should be smiling) A girl like you should never look so blue (blue) You're everything I see in my dreams I wouldn't say that to you if it wasn't true
- The Sweet Escape - off on the Argo II
- Okay Okay - to Italy! and I just think Italian disco is so fun
- On An Evening in Roma - walking around Rome, seeing all its history
Though there's grinning and mandolining in sunny Italy The beginning has just begun when the sun goes down So please meet me in the plaza near your casa I am only one and that is one too few On an evening in Roma Don't know what the country's coming to But in Rome do as the Romans do Will you on an evening in Roma
- Stuck on the puzzle - Annabeth + the Mark of Athena
- Coca Cola - I was imagining the pirates+sacrifice to Dionysus/ his appearance
- Edge of Seventeen - I think Annabeth remarks to herself something like am I really going to die at 17? so this is for her and all the kids just on the cusp of being 17
And the days go by, like a strand in the wind In the web that is my own, I begin again Said to my friend, baby (everything stopped) Nothin' else mattered
- Landslide - when everything goes wrong and they start falling to Tartarus
Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I've been afraid of changin' 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too
House of Hades + Blood of Olympus
Tumblr media
these are more thematic I think? but a few moments in particular
- Head Over Heels - falling down...
I made a fire, and watching it burn Thought of your future With one foot in the past, now just how long will it last?
Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away
- You and Me - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus
If the stars don't shine If the moon won't rise If I never see the setting sun again You won't hear me cry as I testify Please believe me boy you know I would I lie As long as there is you and me
- Don’t Worry Baby - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, on the shore of the river
Well it's been building up inside of me For oh I don't know how long I don't know why But I keep thinking Something's bound to go wrong
But she looks in my eyes And makes me realize And she says "don't worry, baby"
- It’s Only A Paper Moon - the mist and Hazel starting to understand it
You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it Say, it's only a paper moon Sailing over a cardboard sea But it wouldn't be make-believe If you believed in me
- Money, Money, Money - Hazel + Pluto
Money, money, money Must be funny In the rich man's world
- Magic - the whole story, but particularly with the presence of Hecate
- Summer Wind - Jason harnessing the winds!
The summer wind came blowin' in from across the sea It lingered there, to touch your hair and walk with me All summer long we sang a song and then we strolled that golden sand Two sweethearts and the summer wind
- Mala Femmina - the return of Khione
- Would You? - Leo and Calypso
Well, you know she took my hand And we walked away And I can't understand why she would stay Would you like to fall in love with me?
-  Love is Like a Fire - Leo and also Frank
- Don’t Wanna Fight - Percy and Annabeth
Take from my hand Put in your hands The fruit of all my grief Lying down ain't easy When everyone is pleasing I can't get no relief Living ain't no fun The constant dedication Keeping the water and power on There ain't nobody left Why can't I catch my breath? I'm gonna work myself to death
- Love Really Hurts With You - Leo after leaving Calypso’s island
- What Makes the Sunset - Percy and Annabeth (and by extension Bob and Damasen)
What makes the sunset? What makes the moonrise? What makes the tide remember to hide and why does it soon rise? What makes a star fall? Where does it fall to? Why does its flight make us stop in the night and wish as we all do?
- Dedicated to the One I Love - everybody, but an ode to Bob and Damasen (their goodbye made me cry!)
While I'm far away from you my baby I know it's hard for you my baby Because it's hard for me my baby And the darkest hour is just before dawn
Each night before you go to bed my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby And tell all the stars above This is dedicated to the one I love
- Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, I was thinking about this post-curses and them being so done with everything
Good times for a change See, the luck I've had Can make a good man Turn bad
So please, please, please Let me, let me, let me Let me get what I want This time
- Lonely Boy - Nico
- Fantasy - indulging all their visions... the mist, etc.
- Stupid Cupid - Nico and Cupid (of course)
Stupid Cupid you're a real mean guy (stupid Cupid) I'd like to clip your wings so you can't fly (stupid Cupid) I'm in love and it's a crying shame (stupid Cupid) And I know that you're the one to blame (stupid Cupid)
Hey hey, set me free Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
- Suzanne - still Nico, looking over at the couple (sorry... all the mopey songs)
- Dream A Little Dream of Me - dreams... also Percy’s wishes of the future
Stars shining bright above you Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you" Birds singing in the sycamore tree Dream a little dream of me
- Our Day Will Come - I think Annabeth says a line almost like this? somewhere at the end of HOH, I think when they’ve just gotten out of Tartarus and are all sitting together, like haven’t they had enough? won’t their day finally come?
Our day will come If we just wait a while No tears for us Think love and wear a smile Our dreams have magic because We'll always stay In love this way
- Call Me - all of them! also Nico and Reyna, just being there for each other
Tell me and I'll be around Now don't forget me 'cause if you let me I will always stay by you You've got to trust me, that's how it must be
- Nobody - Nico... oh buddy
Venus, planet of love Was destroyed by global warming Did its people want too much too? Did its people want too much?
And I don't want your pity I just want somebody near me Guess I'm a coward I just want to feel alright
- I’m a Believer - Jason and Piper
I thought love was only true in fairy tales Meant for someone else but not for me Love was out to get me That's the way it seemed Disappointment haunted all my dreams Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer Not a trace of doubt in my mind
- Summertime - Piper singing and it being the end of summer
- Happy Trails - more singing ( I want to include the songs actually mentioned!)
- The End of the World - the big battle!!
Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore? Don't they know it's the end of the world? 'Cause you don't love me any more
- Too Late To Turn Back Now - departing with Festus (I think Leo almost says this too!)
- Here Comes The Sun - day comes, the Athena Parthenos is back
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
- Walking On Sunshine - Will Solace
- Evil Woman - Gaea fight
Evil woman, how you done me wrong But now you're tryin' to wail a different song Ha, ha, funny, how you broke me up You made the wine, now you drink a cup I came runnin' every time you cried Thought I saw love smilin' in your eyes Ha, ha, very nice to know That you ain't got no place left to go
- Seven Wonders - the seven! also traveling the world... making it this far
If I live to see the seven wonders I'll make a path to the rainbow's end I'll never live to match the beauty again The rainbow's edge
- This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) - to me this is just after Annabeth and Percy’s kiss, shots of everyone back to camp, wides of people running around, new cabins under construction, the sun is shining, the camera pulls out
Loving you is some kind of wonderful Because you showed me just how much you care You've given me the thrill of a lifetime And made me believe you've got more thrills to spare, oh!
- Love Makes the World Go Round - like the end credits! last pov with Piper, love makes it all happen
Without love flowers wouldn't grow in the spring And without spring, yeah the birdies just couldnt sing Everybody needs love to watch the twinkling stars above It makes a boy and girl, Say they feel so fine, now
