Hello, i would like to request a short little spencer reid x reader, since spencer is kind of autistic coded and he is shown to not understand some jokes or takes things literally, can you do one where reader is the same way, and somebody says a joke that neither of them get and everyone else around is like... wow they are perfect for eachother... and they are just so confused

Drabble: Sweet Like Sugar

A/N: I love this idea! Thanks for requesting! The only joke I could come up with is one from an episode of FRIENDS. Here's a lil dabble before I go into finals. I’m so mentally done with school and can’t wait for summer vacay in a week.

It was early in the morning and your coworkers were just showing up for work. You quickly dropped your stuff off at your desk before practically running towards the coffee maker. 

When you approached the counter Morgan was there preparing a fresh batch of coffee. “Hey sweet thing, how’s your morning been?” 

“Ask me after I have caffeine in my system. Maybe then my eyes will stay open,” you answered plainly as you reached for your mug.  

Morgan chuckled at your answer as he grabbed the coffee pot. “Well feel free to take the first cup.” 

The corners of your mouth turned up as you handed him your mug. “Thanks Morgan.” 

The two of you continued to make your coffee as Spencer approached looking for caffeine. When he saw you his eyes brightened. 

You and Spencer had just started dating and were feeling the buzz others might call “the honeymoon phase.” Spencer however would argue that what he was feeling was more than that. What he felt for you he felt long before you started dating. 

“Morning,” he greeted with a small smile reaching for the coffee pot. 

“Morning Spence,” you replied gleefuly. 

Morgan raised an eyebrow with a slight smirk. “How come he gets a warm welcome?” 

You pointed at your cup, “I told you, ask me when I have coffee.” 

He chucked, “That or your boyfriend?” 

Your eyes squinted at him as you tried to hide a smile. 

“Do you guys know if there’s any extra sugar?” Spencer asked. 

You turned back around to face him. “There isn’t any in the cabinet?” 

“No, it’s empty,” he replied as he pushed away things in his search for sugar. That small pout on his face you found to be adorable.

“Hold on, let me look for some.”

“Maybe stick your finger in his coffee, that’ll sweeten it up,” Morgan joked before taking a sip of coffee. 

Both you and Spencer froze to look at him with confusion plastered across your faces. Morgan could practically see the gears turning in your heads. 

“Why would she stick her finger in my coffee?” Spencer asked with a puzzled look. 

“That’s so gross. I wouldn’t do that to him, he hates germs,” you grimaced. 

“I didn’t mean it literally,” Morgan defended.

The joke was still lost on you both. You stood there trying to make sense of what Morgan said.

“It’s because you have such a sweet personality that touching his coffee would sweeten it up. Especially because he likes an ungodly amount of sugar,” he explained. 

A look of realization dawned on you both with quiet “oohs.” 

Morgan couldn’t help but smile at the reaction. He always knew you and Spencer would end up together. You were both so similar; your chemistry undeniable. You two acted like love sick puppies around each other, and it happened more often now that you started dating. Morgan would never complain though, he was pleased to see you both happy and with your person. 

“Wow, you guys really are perfect for eachother,” he remarked before walking away from the kitchen. 

You and Spencer both turned to each other and shrugged, not fully grasping what he was insinuating. 

“Hey Spence?” 

“Yeah?” 

You finished stirring your creamer in your coffee, “Would you say I’m sweet? Like Derek said?” 

He wrapped his arm around you and leaned down to kiss your temple before whispering in your ear. 

“The sweetest.”

I was supposed to do this weeks ago so i apologise for the delay but i finally got a chance to write the post about Medix and how his autism is portrayed in Rescue bots academy, I apologise If this post doesn't make much sense or if the grammer is poor since I'm very tired but I wanted to rant about this adorable lil medic so much that sleep came second lol

In season 1 episode 30 when wedge rejects wess's offer to help him and makes him sad Medix literally pulls out a datapad with different emotions and presumably descriptions of said emotions, I loved this moment! Not only did it subvert the trope of the autistic coded character saying something insensitive for "humour" but it also showed something I've never seen in a show before, an autistic character using something to help them in a situation they don't know how to deal with, most shows I've seen have either had the character say something insensitive, say something rude or just not care when someone around them is upset

Obviously this isn't accurate to autistic people at all, we might not realise at first that someone is upset around us due to not understanding social cues but when we do realise we want so badly to help and make the person feel better but we just don't know how particularly if we don't know that person, So to see Medix, a character who's been shown to not understand emotions or social cues, use something to help him work around this instead of the show depicting him as rude, unfeeling or faulty made me feel incredibly happy and represented seeing as I'm also an autistic person who uses a variety of items to help me function in this world ( I also really wish that I had an ipad that told me how someone was feeling lol)

As well as this, the show also does a brilliant job of showing how the despite the other students not understanding Medix they are willing to learn and apologise when they realise they've upset him as seen in season 1 episode 35 Life of the party when they refer to him as a "stick in the mud" and in the season 1 episode "Suprise, Medix!" Where they assume his dislike of surprises can be changed by throwing him a suprise however by the end of the episode the other recruits realise their mistake and apologise, compared to other shows where the other characters borderline hate the autistic character just for existing this is a breathe of fresh air and wonderful to see.

As well as everything I mentioned previously I also want to gush about Medix and his love of animals, this aspect of his character is especially relatable for me and I'm sure many other autistics as well, This being that Medix understands and bonds with animals much easier then he does other bots or people, I love seeing an autistic character be depicted as loving and caring towards animals because that's often how it is in real life obviously i don't speak for all autistic people but for me personally I've always been able to connect with and understand animals better then people so I adore this part of Medix's character plus every interaction he has with animals is adorable to watch

In other words I love and relate a lot to Medix and I think he's one of the best autistic characters that I've ever had the joy of watching and he truly deserves more appreciation and love in this fandom along with Chase who is the next character I'll be doing a post on and it'll probably be much longer then this post because as much as I love Rescue bots academy it doesn't hold a candle to Rescue bots which I absolutely adore more then any Transformers media with the exception of MTMTE

Straight (Gay) to the Point— Emmet x Male Reader

⚪️ — Emmet and Ingo have grown up with a lot to be self conscious about, from their appearances to the behavioral quirks they share and the quirks they don’t. Kids can be cruel when you’re neurodivergent so different. So when you get together with Emmet and he comes to realize you LIKE his speaking patterns, he’s floored.

⚪️ — Emmet has always had a lot to say, but he’s quite bad at phrasing things. Compared to his brother who is a constant stream of consciousness, just prattling on about anything and everything that crosses his mind once you get him into conversation, Emmet needs to carefully plan out each word and it never comes out how he wants. Sometimes it feels like with his more approachable appearance (even if some call it creepy) and Ingo’s ability to talk (even if some say he rambles too much), they’re just two halves of one fully functional person. But you like him. Not his brother. Not him and his brother. You like him. How crazy is that?

⚪️ — He doesn’t have time to waste on careful wording. Do that, and he’d be plotting his course of conversation for ages. And he’s rather aware of that fact, so one day, he offhandedly mentions that he’s sorry his bluntness can be so off-putting, and he really hopes he hasn’t said anything to offend you.

⚪️ — Imagine his surprise when you said the contrary! When he heard you liked him because he said exactly what he meant, and he was always so clear-cut and easy to understand, it was like a fuse blew in him. Growing up, he’d always heard the opposite, and while Ingo never criticized him for it, plenty of other people did call him out for being rude when he didn’t mean to be.

⚪️ — He feels verrrry comfortable in conversation with you, yes indeed. Your sense of communication with one another is very strong and any conflict gets resolved very quickly. Emmet is happy to just talk with you and not have to pretend to have conversational skills he doesn’t have. You like him, his brother likes him, that’s all that matters.

⚪️ — He wants to talk with challengers on the Battle Subway more freely, so he’ll often come to you about the best ways to translate the things he wants to say into more “socially acceptable” ways of saying them. Of course, he’s also fully aware that he can come to you and not need to jump through all those hoops.

⚪️ — Since he’s so comfortable with you, he’ll say just about anything to you or around you and knows he can say things to you that will make you laugh, while others would just shush him for it.

⚪️ — After all, nothing makes you laugh quite as hard as sitting on your bed only to hear “OH DEAR! THE GALVANTULAS ARE MATING ON THE SOFA!” from across the apartment. Like cool Emmet, you definitely did NOT need to hear that—also please make them stop??—but that got the best laugh out of you you’ve had in a while.

⚪️ — He’s genuinely just so funny without trying. Another iconic moment you can recall is when, on a Friday night, a particularly inebriated woman was getting a bit too comfy with Emmet, which he was oblivious to at first, too preoccupied with the joy of battling. When you did tell him, though, you ended up laughing your ass off as he gasped and ran off with great urgency to apologize to the woman, as he was unable to reciprocate her advances due to both being taken and, I quote, “a homosexual”.

⚪️ — You’ve definitely made him a lot more comfortable, even in public situations, which he doesn’t seem to realize. The Battle Subway staff has regularly mentioned Boss Emmet has been way chattier than he used to be (which still doesn’t mean anything dramatic, but it’s a big step to him and that’s all it needs to be!) And anyone who has a problem with Emmet’s mannerisms can answer to you.

⚪️ — You’re more than just Emmet’s boyfriend, you gel perfectly into his family. And granted, that family is only Ingo, both of their Pokemon teams and Elesa ever since she basically adopted them, but it’s perfect anyway. It’s not like Emmet has been telling his brother about how much he wants to marry you eventually or anything.

⚪️ — You have literally so many Joltik grandchildren already.

⚪️ — Since both of you can struggle with reading other people, you often put your heads together to try and figure things out. (If it’s anything like the attempts at two neurodivergent people trying to use their combined knowledge to socially navigate that I’ve been a part of, it probably accomplishes nothing, but at least you can both relate to each other’s struggles and have a good laugh about it at the end of the day.)

⚪️ — He acts like a little kid with a crush around you and when he’s not working, he follows you around like a lost puppy.

⚪️ — He also knows that when he’s specifically feeling insecure about his mannerisms, he can lean on you for comfort, because you unashamedly love that about him. All of it. One night, after a particularly rough day, you remember him cuddling up to you and getting teary-eyed about how much you love him.

OH omg the other thing too about. rewatching the entirety of ATLA this month as someone who was a huge fan of it in my childhood as the episodes originally aired. is that watching it now, age 27, approx. 20-ish years later. was recognizing pretty much immediately on episode 1 that Aang is so incredibly adhd coded (i have no idea if that was intentional or not by the writers/creators pls do not quote me on that statement lol) and it now makes such clear perfect sense to me as an adult why i always loved him as a character and as one of the main characters in the show as a kid.

cus like. i have always been a huge lesbian, obviously, even though it took me a lil while to realize that in young adulthood, so as a kid my All Time Fav avatar characters were the girls. and very rarely did i like. truly genuinely care and admire and hyperfixate on boy protags of media i loved as a kid, but being unknowingly at the time an adhd autistic kid and struggling to just get through daily life in school and stuff in a way that was at all similar to my peers, i absolutely loved Aang as a character the same amount as i did for like Katara and Toph and Ty Lee and Azula and Suki and etc etc. and it really is a strange surreal and comforting kind of feeling to rewatch his whole hero's journey now in the later half of my 20's and see my 7/8-to-11 year old self in like So So Much Of His Whole Personality And Actions.

like OF COURSE he was such a big comfort character to me back then, i was coming home from school absolutely exhausted from masking and misunderstanding lessons that were not being taught to me in ways i could properly learn and comprehend and incredibly anxious and stressed from the physical and emotional toll of it all, completely unable to even verbally communicate any of those feelings properly to my moms or other adults in my life because i had no real words or terms to describe it with then, but knowing a new avatar episode was gonna be on tv later and always feeling like everything might be ok cus those guys are my friends and i feel so happy when i see them again and that little boy acts just like me and he's not a failure or a freak or anything awful, he's a hero and a leader and a good person and his friends love him for who he is even though he doesn't have the strongest attention span sometimes and struggles to learn the things he needs to learn in life and would rather spend time having fun with the people he cares about than carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. and he is still celebrated for all of that. which is like. all i wanted back then. to be loved and appreciated and respected and celebrated not despite of my neurodivergence and differences, but because of them, because it made me unique and it shaped who i was and why i did everything the way i did it and how i viewed the world around me.

like. idk if any of that makes proper sense typed out lmao it sounds more clear in my head but. yknow??? idk. theres just something abt watching media that originally meant Everything to me during a time in my life when i had no proper words to help me understand why i felt so incredibly different and strange and Bad as opposed to the other ppl my age around me and feeling the same connection to that character and his story and his personality at 27 yrs old as i did at 7 yrs old. some of those episodes really left me feeling like i went back in a time machine to give my kid-self a big hug. the little mini arc in the 3rd season with Aang going to that fire nation school while they're all undercover was like ESPECIALLY Hitting Me Like A Big Ass Truck, that was like a barely even fictional re-telling of my never fully finished public school experience it was really wild watching it again now so many yrs later. i think Aang is really one of my favorite media protagonists of all time. 🥺

ahhh i have a LOT of headcanons and it feels like a lot of them vary based on which AU/story i'm working with, hc's are a lot like trying on clothes at thrift stores for me — sometimes you just wanna try a new one out for size and think 'hm!' @ the mirror, it's what makes community engagement so much fun imo !

but i will ATTEMPT to narrow down some of the constants i find when working with rymin and ones that aren't, yknow, confined to specific AUs — although i'm sure if you're familiar with paper trails, you know some of these already lmao

Ryan’s a Schrodinger’s Gender situation for me, so it fluctuates often just based on what story i’m telling. In the AUs/stories where he’s transmasc, ryan names himself after a homeless guy named Ryan who’d sit outside his family’s local supermarket and play a sick riff. One day baby ryan spotted him throw a banana peel at a police officer was chasing him (for dignity’s sake, he always tells friends he was just inspired by ryan roxie, the guitarist)

(also in these AUs, he has insanely intense cycles due to the cursed cocktail of anemia/endometriosis, which leads to minor complications when he’s on the road and can’t afford T/birth control anymore. It’s a whole Thing, he had to be hospitalized for it at age 13 and the doctors basically shrugged, as doctors do. I’ve wanted to explore this caveat before but never found the time, oh well)

Sex Drugs And Rock N’ Roll is a subculture he could never fit into for a plethora of reasons, and it was another way he felt isolated while going solo due to all the aggressive expectations. He’s sex-POSITIVE, bc it’s important to me to shed the stupid ‘asexuals are all sex-repulsed puritans’ agenda i see being spread sometimes. He thinks it’s fun, and with the right person it is!

MIN-GI

His mom’s name is Soo-yeon and his dad is Tae-hyun. He visits Jeju-si in the summer since his mom has two sisters living there

Min loves helping his mom around the kitchen/folding laundry. His parents have a huge garden out back with flowers and some veggies, and he likes harvesting from there when his mom lets him (she’s very picky about who touches her flowers!)

Plants are min’s comfort item; they’re basically to him what reptiles are to ryan! He’d cover the entire van/flat with them if he could, he loves succulents in particular and he likes to sing to them

He’s a HUGE dog person!! Whenever he’d come visit the Akagi’s he’d make an IMMEDIATE beeline for the family dog; however when his mom bought a Pomeranian to cure her empty nest syndrome, he despises it (for comedic purposes he only addresses his mother's dog as The Dog)

He leans more on the side of whiskey in drinks; he also likes gin. His taste in alcohol is definitely WAY stronger than ryan’s, less diluted with flavors, but both have the same level of tolerance. he enjoys a good sazerac

my turn to cry - thoughts on 3-1b

ok this has actually gotta be my favorite chapter cause holy shit so much stuff happened.

I played the Alice/kanna route and afterwards I watched a vod with the reko/shin route in which ranmaru and naomichi died before the banquet, so BIG SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH ROUTES

Mafia Princess Sara??: Ok so first off, back in the beginning of 2020, I had a theory that Sara was a mafia heiress and that the death game was supposed to be something to “prepare” her. And that her memories were wiped or she was initially supposed to be kept blind to this whole thing (In 3-1a when everybody saw the consent form for the very first time everybody felt a sense of deja vu, except for Sara. Because why would they need her consent when she is the sole focus of the game and it’s all for her) This theory was mainly supplied by my confusion surrounding the hiring of Kai, cause why would mr Chidouin hire a former assassin to protect her?? How did he even know Kai??? But yeah, the whole thing with Shinobu Gokujo and deciding a new don through a death game just adds a lil more validity to this theory.

Sara’s real father: I also had a mini theory that Gashu Satou was her real father, but that was mostly cause of their hair color and how it would def make Sara’s hair color make more sense genetics-wise (but kai has black hair, so its most likely that his mother had black hair, which would also disprove this mini-theory but yk im not here to prove it just talk about it). And that Gashu knew of Mr. Chidouin and gave Sara to him, and it would also explain why mr Chidouin chose Kai of all people to look after her and why Kai could only watch her from a distance, in case she realized the truth that he was her brother/half-brother or something. 

GREENBLINGS CANON AAAAAAAA: I love this, I love this so much oh my god. Now I can replay and cry after 2-2 cause nankidai hates us :’). I dont have an issue with this specifically, I’m just a bit bothered by how the whole thing went. There was some buildup yea, and the cg with kanna, kugie, and shin was amazing. And that lil bit about nice hallucinations made me tear up a bit. But, then everybody kinda just moved on? and idk this whole chapter was a fuckign roller coaster I could barely keep up.

Autistic Gin <3: I’m autistic myself and I have seen many characters who are autistic-coded or exhibit many signs of autism but have never been straight up confirmed (Ex: Vera Misham from Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney). And even then, these characters usually share similar personality traits like being aloof and reserved. So it’s nice to see that Gin is representing autism in a relatively realistic manner with his hyperfixations, vocal tics, and issues with socializing. Even after nearly dying like 17 times he’s still doing well and I genuinely wish for his survival and happiness.

Ranmaru’s death: Both of Ranmaru’s deaths, (if you or if you don’t fail the electricity absorption minigame) the death feels so... off? I was really attached to him as a character, yet his death didn’t impact as much as Joe’s or Nao’s did. During his Banquet death, one second he had his really cute smiling sprite but then whoops oh no guys weird drill screw thing kills him (again). I still can barely comprehend it because it all just happened so fast. Like no cg or anything. I was honestly kinda disappointed. The “delayed” one does a better job at his death scene, but again, it was wayyy too quick and completely dismissed as everybody just moves on to defeat Maple 2.0. I at least would’ve appreciated a better transition than Midori just saying “well anyways–”

 Ranmaru’s extremely quick descent into madness in the shin route: I actually liked this idea of Ranmaru willing to go to such extremes for Sara. However, theres barely time for any of this to develop? Like again, everything just happens so fast??? I would've definitely liked if there were little hints around before the body discovery that ranmaru was gonna do something like this, just a little time for development would really be cool.

Mr. Policeman/Mr. Tazuna???: After I finished, I actually looked on the wiki to see if it said anything about his son that he mentioned and I found this:

The thing about Q-taro: I’m gonna say it now, I’ve liked Q-taro ever since the aftermath of 1-2, and Q-taro haters have added absolutely nothing to this fandom. Everybody saw him as a child-hater, I see him as a guy who’ll do anything to survive and succeed. I mean that wish is kinda what got him into the death game. And yeah he did try to leave that one time, but that’s what getting thrown into traumatic killing games does for you, most people don’t want to die, they want to live, no matter what it takes. We can’t all be the main character and choose to cooperate with everybody and be the “good” person in that situation. Even Sara has those extremely selfish moments and those intrusive thoughts of winning and leaving. 

This whole thing should also be applied to Ranmaru. Ranmaru has gone through so much shit in such a brief amount of time, to the point where he was considering to/actually kill people to escape with the one person he trusted in this hellhole. In that situation, Sara’s kinda at fault here, cause without Joe she’s lost her sense of morality which resulted in her becoming selfish and well... honestly kinda toxic. This emotional manipulation is really what set Ranmaru off, however it was 100% his decision to fucking kill somebody and murder’s bad. Still love him though.

But back to Qtaro, I really enjoyed the extra substance given to him in this chapter, it’s nice to see the development from being selfish to feeling deep remorse to protecting the dolls of the first trial victims, most notably Mai. As he completely forgives her for stabbing him. The chapter did a great job at fueling my already intense love for Q-taro (and it actually convinced my best friend who claims to hate Q-taro with every bone of her body to like him too!) I also love the father-son dynamic between him and Gin. I find this relationship to be really important cause Gin’s father is an abusive alcoholic and Q-taro’s an orphan who’s never had a proper role-model in his life. So it’s beautiful that despite not having anybody there for him when he was younger he can still be a good figure for another child.

Predictions/hopes for the next part: 

I just want to see whether Shin already knew about Kanna being his sister, and if he doesn’t I want a reveal. Right. Now.

Okay, a more serious review of episode 1x07 of The Boys. Theme is red flags in relationships, couples cracking because of secrets coming out, “you and me” that are not quite such. Maeve and Homelander act like there’s a “you and me” but both know there’s not, Sitwell tries to “you and me” Homelander but he declines and she sees the big red flag when he tells her to be with her baby, and of course Hughie’s secrets blow up his relationship with Annie and MM’s secrets damaging his relationship with his wife. (Funnily enough, Dean and Cas, er I mean Frenchie and Kimiko*, have a lil nice domestic time.)

*I think I forgot to talk about it the other day, but Kimiko and Frenchie are a massive Destiel parallel? They even learn her name from a group visit to a psychic who gets hurt in the process! Coincidence? I think not! Especially since it’s pretty obvious Frenchie and partly Butcher are set up as the unruly outcast Dean to Hughie’s nerdy techie Sam (although as the show has progressed, of course Butcher gets more John than Dean with the dead wife fueled revenge tunnel vision thing, but still you can see the various concepts underneath) and then Frenchie gets given a non-human, autistic-coded partner with super strength and that won’t stay dead, so I’m pretty sure all of this is intentional.

I had read that since pretty much all the characters in the show are not “good” but most of them are horrible people, it’s hard to relate to them, but I find it’s absolutely the opposite?? A-Train literally kills a woman right away, and then you feel so much for him, the pressure from the expectations that come with his position, his pain over his girlfriend. The Deep literally rapes a woman the first episode, and you want to hug him because he’s so miserable all the time and does not get 1 (one) win. I hope that, for the rule of three, he gets to save someone in the season finale, after the fiasco with the dolphin and then the lobster.

Of course, the narrative has a stark contrappasso structure for these characters. A-Train kills someone’s beloved partner and he loses his, and also his speed (that wound doesn’t look good). The Deep rapes a person to feel superior to her and gets raped while at his lowest... it’s a sort of atonement journey through fire. Interesting that these are not redemption arcs, but contrappasso arcs. From pain does not come redemption, but understanding. From understanding then come choices, and we’ll see what choices the characters will make.

Speaking of rule of three, I suspect we will see Homelander associated to a plane again (once he deliberately destroys a plane, then he makes a mistake and causes another to crash, third ??). And speaking of Homelander. He. He’s literally a mass murderer and manipulating abuser and yet?? You actually feel for him?? The actor does such a great job. You can both feel the utter menace and toxicity that comes from the character but also the pain and vulnerability?? I really did not expect the character to be like this. Kudos.

Of course the most noteworthy thing in the episode is still the fact that Homelander thought he couldn’t conceive children and gets a woman pregnant with a fast-growing child that claws its way out of the mother’s womb, just like that famous Twilight comic. Am I the only one who thought of that?? I can’t possibly be?? I’m sorry but... I can’t... take this seriously... Butcher’s wife died of Unfortunate Renesmee Cullen... Becca and Bella even sound similar...

(Wavering like a crazy person) Hey Miss! I love your writing and the way you portray Prowl, as an autistic person who is shy, does not like crowds or new social situations I really identify with him.

Anyway, I was just thinking of an au where cybertronians have, like, an instinct to protect and care for gravid mechs. So any way Prowl (naturally) ends up carrying, and the autobots, especially prime, suddenly rally around him, protecting and caring for him. It would be even better if he was an MTO and/or the bots made it clear they did not like him before he got sparked up. Thanks (runs away to cuddle my cat)

Prowl hid. He was suspicious. His every instinct told him to be wary of the gifts of fuel and trinkets the endless stream of Autobots had been delivering him. Though he searched them for trackers and contaminants, Prowl found none. Still, he did not trust them. But though he did not trust them, Prowl gathered this latest rash of gifts and took them to his habsuite. It was a poor hiding place. Everyone knew where he recharged, but he had found no space more suitable for his nest.

Nest. Ratchet said his instincts were stronger than a forged mechanisms. He had no lessons or experiences surrounding carryings to leans on and as such Prowl was at the mercy of his messy, messy code. Nesting was normal, or so said Ratchet, and admittedly Prowl's own research. Gravid mechanisms sometimes started nesting before they even knew they were carrying, some only started nesting in the last stellar-cycles. Prowl was amongst the latter, which meant he had been nesting for stellar-cycles already. It had not been such a miserable thing, in fact Prowl found it rather peaceful. That peace had been interrupted, however, now that his condition had been made known to everyone.

"Hey, Babe," Jazz crooned to him when he joined Prowl in their habsuite, some joors after Prowl had made his retreat here. Since Prowl's forge had expanded the way Jazz spoke to Prowl had changed. His tone had taken on a more musical quality. It felt like Jazz was always singing to him and it had a way of making Prowl feel safe and warm. "Who brought ya gifts this cycle?"

"Prime," Prowl replied. "He brought a set of huge ursanakor snugglies for the bitlets. Wheeljack, Counterpunch, Arcee all brought energon and rust sticks and gifts..."

"Spooked ya?" Jazz asked and Prowl sighed.

"I do not trust it," he replied. "Their coding is masking their true feelings. Once I have given emergence, they will hate me again."

"Oh, Sweetspark," Jazz crooned and he hugged Prowl to him, Prowl sagged into the embrace and sighed.

"I will not be lulled into complacency," he said. "It will just be stripped away. I do not want to enjoy it."

"It ain't all code," Jazz said. "They just finally got their guard down wit ya. They're learnin' ya. They ain't gonna forget they like what they seen 'n learned. 'N when ya have those bitties in yer arms they're gonna be driven to protect all three o' ya."

"I let Optimus feel my forge," Prowl revealed. He nuzzled into Jazz's next. "He got this goofy face. I don't want him to go back to hating me."

"Ya gonna have him wrapped 'round yer lil digit, Prowler," Jazz said. "He's already learnin' what really listenin' to ya can bring 'm 'n us. He's not gonna forget feelin' our bitties move. He knows he's responsible for 'em, for us."

"I hope you are right."

ok so good points of this season:

- lucas is a sweetheart i actually think he’s pretty well written. his friendship with max is amazing

- robin and steve

- the running up that hill scene

- the kid they cast as young el who i genuinely didn’t realise was not millie. fucking big props to the casting team for that one.

bad points of this season:

- max’s struggles deserved WAY more depth and screentime. instead it was just ‘im sad my brother died’ :( forgetting he was a fucking abuser. and NOBODY at any point has told her that it wasn’t her fault and her feelings were valid.

- argyle. not only a useless character but outright cringe.

- the ENTIRE hopper/joyce plotline like literally WHAT was the point of any of it. joyce was wildly underused, shoved in scenes with a guy who’s frankly embarrassing to watch, and hopper’s character was so destroyed by s3 that i don’t care if he dies. honestly, they should have just erased all of that. it took up so much time that could’ve been spent on characters we care about

- speaking of characters we care about. eddie. what was the point of him. he’s boring. his introduction scene was literally ‘look how much of a prick this guy is’. the whole idea of the jocks going on a manhunt against the ‘freak’ dnd player COULD have been an interesting look at mob mentality and marginalised cultures but instead it was like. mkay remind me why i care?

- why is lucas the only black character who isn’t dead, tortured, or a stereotype. i do enjoy erica but she’s... idk yet again sth about her makes me uncomfortable. she makes me feel a lil bit too... sassy black girl stereotype idk.

- stereotypes again: robin. while i DO love robin and i do very much love autistic robin... idk man. something about the way they’ve written her makes me very uncomfortable. it’s like they just went ‘let’s make her autistic coded but forget to give her any other personality’. like literally EVERY word out of her mouth is to talk about her autistic traits, without ever saying she’s actually neurodivergent. it’s sort of just played for laughs. in s3 she had an actual character, she had wants and fears. in s4 she’s kinda just... there to be the funny awkward girl.

- vecna. good god. why. just why. why is your big bad a fucking aspd stereotype AGAIN. WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL. ONE COULD HAVE BEEN SO AMAZING. not to rehash my tags in the last post but WHY wasn’t he an actual victim of brenner that went mad and killed everyone because the trauma broke him!!! he would have been so much more compelling!!! instead they just made him a psycho who wants to kill humans bc they’re lesser!!! THAT IS SO DULL!!!

- also his design is boring as hell. like cmon if you’re gonna make your big bad vecna at least make him equally as cool as vecna’s design.

- where the fuck is will. the best actor in the entire series and you put him in california. why. the man fucking carries every scene he’s in and you shove him with the most boring sixteen year old on the planet, a cringey stoner guy, and his loser older brother. (speaking of i’ve never been a huge jonathan fan but come on why is he SUCH A loser this season). why didn’t we get more scenes with el and will!!! they should be SUCH great friends!!!!!

okay so i’ve written several posts before about why andrew is autistic. his moral code, the roundabout way he communicates, his body language, his stimulation-seeking behavior, his strict adherence to transactional deals, the emphasis on honesty, and a dozen other details. at this point i just take andrew being autistic as fact, not just an interpretation

h o w e v e r  i also hc that andrew is dyslexic, which is also a neurodiverse condition

similarly, i’ve seen more than one person interpret kevin as autistic, and i absolutely agree that it fits. not just the hyperfocus on exy but mostly the way he communicates. he’s very indirect, especially in his affection but very direct with his opinions. he tries to be helpful in a material way to the people he cares about, even if he comes off as negative. he wants the people he cares about to be safe and successful so he pushes them to work hard and reminds them in measurable ways how to stay healthy. he doesn’t factor in a lot of room for emotions, so instead he focuses on quantifiable things that he can improve. i personally act very similarly. approaching someone emotionally is hard for me, so when the people i care about have problems all i can think to do is try offering solutions, check up on their well-being, etc. practicality instead of conventional sentiment is extremely common with asd

so now let’s talk about neil. i had to think on this one for a WHILE but ultimately came to the conclusion that neil is adhd, probably hyperactive type. 

like obviously neil is high energy. i would say he probably does the most exercise of anyone on the team. morning run, morning practice, afternoon practice, night practice with kevin and andrew, plus he doesn’t have a car so he runs to class (on a BIG ass campus), and goes for an extra run when he feels stressed. that’s... insane, honestly.

neil reminds me SO MUCH of this post that goes:

“Was just informed by my mom that I do in fact have ADHD and the reason I thought I didn’t was because ever since I was seven whenever I got super energetic my mom would have me go chop wood so now when I’m feeling The ADHD I go chop wood”

(phenomenal post) and that’s neil to a t. tell me this isn’t exactly how neil handles his problems and also exactly what mary would have had to do to keep her unmedicated and very energetic son focused on the task of staying alive

neil also definitely has that ADHD on/off switch with his interest. the obvious being exy which is like the definition of a hyperfixation, but you can see it in other things: the way he runs totally hot or totally cold with people, his complete disinterest in his schoolwork, the way he can’t seem to sit still long enough to follow movies. but then there’s also the hyperfocus. doing the same drill for hours on end. watching exy game after exy game. staring at andrew until time falls away

what’s more, neil on many occasions shows racing thoughts, both in an anxiety way (and anxiety often goes hand-and-hand with adhd) but also as a way to quickly and accurately take in details about people to build a character profile of them. this is what allows him to connect with the foxes, how he manages to get through andrew’s puzzles, and even how he knows what to say in order to knock riko down a peg. his brain just works so fast and it takes in a lot of very specific details and disparate information to make connections.

but also like,, neil has a HUGE problem with time blindness. like the instant he didn’t have his mother around to manage and direct him anymore he lost all sense of time. he stayed in Millport for a YEAR. and what did he keep telling himself during that time? basically “i really need to move on, but not just yet.” for a YEAR! then he gets to palmetto and he’s like “i’ll cut and run in a month or two” then he doesn’t “i’ll be gone by halloween” wrong again “i’ll leave by the raven’s game” nope. like,, the boy just has NO sense of time and he can’t seem to make himself DO anything outside of an externally enforced schedule. and even then,,, HE HAD 48 FUCKING DAYS TO FIGURE OUT SOMETHING TO DO TO NOT GET MURDERED! 48 WHOLE DAYS. he didn’t make a plan, he didn’t write down any letters with goodbyes, he didn’t GO TO THE FBI LIKE HE’D INTENDED TO THE WHOLE TIME! nah he just made out with andrew and when he finally got to zero he was just like “ah shit, that was fast. oh well guess i’ll die” and that’s time blindness, babey!

let’s move on to nicky. 

now i think it would be really easy to say nicky is just adhd because he’s high energy and forgetful but tbh,, i don’t think that’s all of it. like if you really look at nicky’s character and especially at his problems, he has asd problems just as much as he has adhd problems.

so nicky is dual diagnosis asd and adhd. also nicky reminds me a lot of a girl i used to know who was autistic/adhd

so, adhd:

very generally speaking, ppl with adhd will struggle with sitting still, listening to and following instructions, planning/organization, following a schedule, and some social boundaries like “appropriate” times and topics of conversation

i would say you see hints of this with nicky. he’s definitely a rambunctious personality, constantly on the move, constantly stimulation seeking. he’s very tactile. he likes to dance, he likes to party, he complains about it but he’s an elite-level athlete. he’s also decidedly very chatty, and doesn’t seem to really pay attention to what he’s saying. he distracts himself and the people around him have to keep him on track. he has some trouble with boundaries. he’s a little all over the place. he’s almost a bit of an adhd stereotype

also one thing i find interesting is that when neil sees him in the library doing work neil is surprised to see he’s capable of that, especially bc when we see the upperclassmen doing work they generally do it in their dorms or on the bus and/or with other people around. that hyper-social nicky would be alone in a quiet place is weird. but this is like the most common tip for dealing with adhd. don’t do it in a familiar space. have a designated space and time to do work. limit distractions. just a lil detail

so now, asd:

in all honesty, most of nicky’s actual problems in the narrative could be viewed as stemming from asd symptoms. his number one issue being that he has a lot of trouble with nonverbal cues (and tbh, verbal ones too). the twins are mostly quiet. andrew especially (when he’s sober) communicates primarily nonverbally, and nicky seems to have a lot of trouble with this. despite knowing them for the longest on the team, nicky honestly seems to have the least insight into the way either of the twins actually thinks or processes things. he loves them, and he’s very forgiving of them, but he fundamentally doesn’t understand them. 

the twins, andrew especially, put up a LOT of nonverbal boundaries, and nicky sort of inadvertently keeps trampling all over them. he’s touchy in a way they don’t like. he talks a lot about their personal lives to other people. he treats them like they’re joking when they’re serious. etc. and like,,, you kind of get the sense that the upperclassmen feel similarly about him. beyond the homophobia, beyond the fact that he’s loyal to andrew, the upperclassmen still treat him with this sense of,, bafflement, i suppose? it’s clear that they don’t really understand him and he doesn’t really understand them. although, nicky IS curious about the upperclassmen, while the upperclassmen are pretty dismissive of him. it reminds me of when my sweet, floppy dog tries to play with my cat. their body language is different; they’re each receiving different signals than they believe they’re sending out

only,, nicky loves people!! he likes being around them, he likes talking to them. he’s interested in their lives and stories, but it’s very clear that he can’t read between the lines on people. he has an incredibly hard time with people who expect their actions to speak for them, which is most people, but is especially his cousins.

actually this is very much also an issue that i have: things need to be spelled out for me. the way i deal with it is i ask a lot of questions. ‘how do you want me to react to this potential situation?’ ‘what are specific things that make you most comfortable?’ ‘please explain to me exactly how you feel and what has prompted those feelings?’ and i’m always communicating vice versa like that with other people. a lot of specifics in both questions and answers

and the interesting thing is, when i was skimming through the books reviewing dialogue styles for another ask, i noticed that, actually, nicky DOES do this. with neil and the upperclassmen, nicky asks a LOT of quick, clarifying questions. things that ask after tone, that ask after intent. it’s kinda sad that he does this for communicating with acquaintances, but with the twins, the people he’s closest to, he makes a lot more assumptions. and i’m really proud of nicky for having this coping skill, because i can’t imagine it’s something he grew up doing. there’s no way he was raised in an environment that fostered this kind of open communication so it must have been something he learned about much later, probably in germany with the kloses, which would also explain why he’s a lil imperfect about it

now last but not least, aaron

this is another one i had to think through for a long time before it felt like it fit

much like how i felt that it would be easy to read nicky as simply adhd rather than also asd, i think it would be easy to say aaron is autistic simply because he is quieter, less rambunctious. however, i actually think he’s adhd, likely primarily inattentive type

in all honesty, aaron’s #1 character trait for the first two books is basically that he’s disconnected. detached. separated both from his family and his team. not in the same forcefully apathetic way that andrew is, more,, spaced out. he’s just kind,, there. not really paying attention to what’s going on, tuning in every once in a while only if something really catches his eye/ear then tuning right back out again. just sits in his corner and plays on his phone. and the thing is, from the moments when he does tune in, you can tell that he actually does care. he backs nicky when seth insults him in tfc, and we know he cares deeply about andrew even if he’s become disillusioned with their fraught relationship. he even hangs with his family, doesn’t seem to really try and slip away to other friends besides katelyn, he’s fine spending his leisure time with the monsters. so it’s not totally apathy, he’s just,,, tuned out most of the time

and, yea, that sounds like adhd. it’s not the type that most people are familiar with, and for a lot of people this causes it to slip under the radar. it can make it hard to get help or a dx because it doesn’t fit with how adhd “should” look or how someone “should” act, but difficulty focusing your thoughts and staying in tune with the current moment is absolutely part of adhd

addiction is also a huge problem for people with adhd. a lot of stimulants affect people with adhd very differently than neurotypicals, especially in small doses, and an adhd kid who’s struggled their whole lives with the disorder might try speed or god-forbid meth or fuck even coffee and suddenly find that things are a lot easier for them. they start to self-medicate, they don’t actually know what they’re doing, and then they’re addicted, and everything spirals out of control. we don’t know too many details about aaron’s addiction other than that his mother enabled him, but wouldn’t this fit? it’s also an explanation for aaron still taking drugs at eden’s, given that cracker dust seems to be a mild amphetamine. (aaron talk to betsy about the neurocog and get an actual prescription please)

I... really hated this episode. I feel like, in terms of writing, this was worse than even "Rest and Resolutions" from Volume 5, which is my least favorite episode in the entire series. Yes, I'd really go that far.

Let's list this episode's accomplishments:

• The main characters beat Ironwood to (not-) death for 2 entire minutes, just to hammer home that he's definitely a villain! You're supposed to hate him! (Pushing that aside, too, it's just really strange to have the fight at the start of the episode and then explaining in detail how it happened for 4 minutes.)

• Additionally, why didn't you just have an Ace Ops vs RWBY rematch and an Ironwood vs Qrow fight? Weren't they building up to an Iron//qrow fight? Or was that.. nothing? (Me and my friend have been hyped for the fight the entire volume, so, this is kinda...)

• Now, with Ironwood dead in jail, Volume 8 leaves the viewer with no sense of tension and no proper threat. Why is there the need to evacuate the citizens of Atlas and Mantle, anymore? We've been shown 3 Grimm since Salem's whale went down, but is that it? Huh? (Also, god, I wish Ironwood was just dead instead.)

• Team RWBY enters the vault (which is conveniently not guarded by anyone!) and summon the spirit of the relic, Ambrosius. To give some credit, I really like Ambrosius! He was fun, and had a refreshing personality. Problem is, this episode is actively made worse by his presence and abilities.

• So, we're here to save Penny. To rid her of the virus. So, what does RWBY do?

• They fucking make her human.

• Now, Grae, why does this bother you so much, you may ask? Well, let me tell you:

• Penny has always been "human". That was her entire development in Volume 2, her arc in Volume 7. She's proven that she is already a "real girl", despite her body not being quite like everyone else's. (Side note; I personally read this as Penny being autistic-coded. And with this... thing... there's some actively awful shit here. Though, I'm aware this probably wasn't CRWBY's intention.)

• Also, this line from Yang:

• I get it, it's supposed to be a cute lil' "I've got a prosthetic/I'm disabled too, I'm not any less human than anyone else!", but... ew. Ew. So, Yang's mechanical parts make her 'no less human'. Penny's body makes her 'no less human'. But they go on to "cure" Penny of this body - and still go on to state that Ironwood's prosthetics actively make him less human? I just. Yuck.

• Next up, possibly my biggest problem with this episode:

• Those. Stupid. Fucking. Doors.

• Now, the idea of the doors doesn't bother me on its own. In fact, I kinda like the inbetween dimension concept! The aesthetic looks really neat, and the 'don't fall down' line from Ambrosius makes it seem mysterious and dangerous. But, here's the thing.

• If the heroes had this plan, couldn't they have used it in Volume 7? Couldn't they have called Ironwood in Volume 8 and told him about this plan? Was nobody on Ironwood's team smart enough to figure this stupid-ass plan out? These shite-arse doors make the heroes and Ironwood both seem like morons for not working together and makes Ironwood's interesting sacrifice at the end of Volume 7 completely pointless.

• Additionally; the doors rescue everyone. Every. Single. Person. You know how the writers told us this was gonna be a Volume 3 in terms of stakes? Well, suprise! No one dies! Not a single fucking person! Not even NPCs! All because of these,

• Shitty

• Fucking

• Doors!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Now, ain't that a Subversion of your Expectations (TM) ! You love those! We do too! Let us give you fucking 50 of those in one Volume!

• To sum up the episode; it all felt very.. "And conveniently!"

• And conveniently, Winter's on our side! And conveniently, Marrow's semblance works! And conveniently, Penny's a human now! And conveniently, Ironwood is in jail! And conveniently, there are STUPID FUCKING DOORS leading every single person to safety!

Also, they nerfed Ironwood's ass. Unforgiveable.

Melvin and the Silent Diagnosis for a Brilliantly Broken Psyche

Hypothetical Diagnosis Insecurity masked with narcissistic tendencies characterized with compulsive obsessions driven by blatant autism, and no that is not an immature insult I test extremely highly for Asperger's myself Here's the Evidence: (I will state before hand that Melvin-borg is a completely separate character in my mind, and thus will not be included in this particular theory.  Melvin decided not to turn out like him, so they are canonically separate characters) He is obviously and frequently inspired by George and Harold, but his deeply embedded fear of rejection makes him dangerously bitter, and it doesn't help that everytime he breaks out of this protective shell, he is rejected or betrayed once again. It’s important to note that while he may be high-functioning (aka: Aspergers) he is still Autistic. That’s because Asperger’s is not a form of autism- it is autism. Period. And any kind of autism or mental attypicality left untreated can develop in to many, many other severe mental disorders, or, in general, make life a metric heck ton harder and complicated than it already is. I also need to confess that I test highly positively for autism myself as well as being an INTP female (Myers-Briggs Personality Test). Not to brag, but all that combined with my naturally creative nature makes me rare af, but it also means I can't communicate or handle stress #liketheothergirls, so that has lead me to being/feeling bullied and ostracized.  I also have anxiety and depression issue which run in my family, and mild insomnia, and may or may not be relapsing into an eating disorder. Paired with psychical problems like acid reflux and severe neck tension, health, whether psychical or mental is of uttermost importance to me.  It suffices to say, autism is not easy to deal with and if not taken care for properly a person, especially if not made at least aware of what autism truly is, it can truly ruin their life. Combined with the neglectful nature of his parents (at least in the books) I and many others in this fandom truly believe Melvin is at least autistically coded. Not only does this fit the archetype of his character but it also fits the theme of the books to a TEE. At its core, CU, of all things, is a children's book series, about living your best life despite not being “normal.” Even characters like the teachers or Mr Krupp who strive for “normality” are shown to actually have deeply repressed creativity, or, in some cases, deep trauma from their own childhoods. It suffices to say that I resonate deeply with Melvin. Say what you want about him or me, I was able to relate to him the second he spoke his first line in the second book. Sorry to turn this into a long vent, but I feel it is best to use myself to support this theory as well as harder evidence, even if it is mostly a means of self-therapy. To start, we both are obsessed with school even to a detrimental degree. Ever since head-start (Pre-K but a million times better), these "book-smarts" were the first thing I ever truly excelled at. When the other kids bullied (or as I now know as teasing) me, I would lose myself in a stack of homework or a book 2-3 grades past my grade level (this is before I drew or wrote as a main hobby). Similarly, Melvin is rarely seen without a book or gadget, just like me. We both over analyze things and hide our feelings. We both have intense crushes on others but are terrified to dare express them, or do but to nothing but awkwardness. We were both science kids, and fascinated by words and/or numbers alone (I still am just in a more artistic way). We both struggle to communicate and relate to others. We both have a unusual sense of humor and are highly observant of surroundings all the while missing what’s in front of our noses. We both have interests that quickly spiral into obsessions and dropping the obsession only when sick of it. We both practice similar forms of stimming. We both not only thrive but crave control and structure with the world around us, even to the point of being "control freaks" and creating odd habits, routines, and rituals regardless of whether they are necessary or make sense. We both have an intense fear of intimacy and rejection to the point of practicing self-isolation and in some cases self harm or other unhealthy coping methods (seen with Melvin over eating sweets or over working himself. For me it’s disordered eating or self flagellation, something I have all but completely dropped but still) We also both tend to see ourselves as inferior to others and attempt to mask those feelings with a superiority complex (I feel bad for my siblings but I didn’t know what I was doing, and no it was not abusive just sibling rivalry and I’m the oldest anyway, and we are country kids and understand “rough-housing” =/= using each other as a punching bag, but accidents happen I'm sorry) We both seem to become easily overstimulated and have explosive mental and emotional breakdowns when things just . . . become too much However the harsh divide between male and female and fictional and nonfictional means we both present certain traits differently. Whereas he presents a more linear line of thinking my mind is overwhelmingly sporadic. Also, I have over sensitivities to touch and light (and sometimes certain noises, but not anything not normal? Wfk.) But maybe he does have oversensitivity but I can't think of an example off the top of my head. Enough about me however. I know Melvin and autism has been done to death.  Hell, I just did it to death.  My actual theory is more on the inner mechanisms of his mind and predicting how he will develop should the series allow for full character development. Also, similar to my Krupp theory, I will be listing his crimes out and give him a proper sentence for his age and maturity level (which will be light as I am sympathetic to his plight).   This is already getting too long, so Imma try to finally get to the point.  Characters with autism are honestly a mixed bag, sometimes there as standardized as my mystery Daddy Sherlock Holmes and other times they are as subtle as Pearl or Peridot from Steven Universe (has Rebbaca Sugar confirmed this? sorry). Honestly, it does distress me that autism is almost always used to have an evil genius character or some weird side character for brownie/ diversity points. (this makes me a bit hypocritical I guess, considering my own stories. I guess tropes are tropes for a reason) And while Dav Pilky May not be subtle with his scholastic politics or humor his one spectacular tool in his writing books has always been, when it comes to his characters, showing instead of telling. This is something I latched on to even as a kid, and I was already thinking up theories on the characters before I even knew character theories were a thing.  Like what happened to Harold's Dad (hint, hint).  Why was Harold's sister rarely used?  Does Mr Krupp actually like their comics (a now accepted theory, but not just min? And many many others I'm probably never gonna write.  It took until how long in the books to reveal George and Harold have ADHD? Before that they were simply described as being as smart as Melvin but just in different ways. Personally I feel that autism is inverted ADHD. This is an opinion I’ve recently formed so if I’m wrong bloody attack me in the comments. Anyway, Melvin presenting autism makes him the perfect foil to George and Harolds’ more sporadic antics. The only true difference between autistic folks and ADHD folks is that those with autism tend to crave a structured environment full of rules, and set goals to achieve, while such an environment is HELL to children with ADHD (aka:George and Harold). (Even though if with adults they can trust, children with ADHD thrive in structured environments if they are surrounded by adults or authority figures they can trust.)  I know some will tell me ADHD is on the spectrum, but I just learned this like actually the other day and don’t fully understand it.  My prediction is that Melvin will eventually and naturally mellow out if just because staying so high strung all the time is a huge waste of mental energy.  I know good as hell I had to.  Also, he mellowed our in the books and went from a screeching revenge exacting lil narcissistic white boi prick to a person who simply wants to pursue his interests and even helping George and Harold (selfishly, but help nonetheless). He even went from enjoying the fame and attention of hero-ing to realizing it did not fufill him. Indeed quite the opposite.  His true passion lay in solving world problems through science, and I don't think the ending for him in the books could have been any more perfect considering his character.   In the Netflix show, similar to how I think Krupp's personalities are merging, I believe that Melvin will eventually become more like his Broski alter ego (which I calmly demand more of).  Overall, given that this show needs to go back to the status quo more often than not, I don't think his core character will ever change, and it doesn't need to.  Multiple times throughout the series he's been shown to crave friendship from George and Harold, despite audibly hating him . Textbook Tsundere, I know.  He will form a friendly rivalry with George and Harold, I have almost no doubt about that, taking the season 1 finale, season 2 finale, season 3 first episode, and halloween special into consideration. (Yeah, if someone will send me clips I will give them my eternal gratefulness) To conclude, because by god this is long, Melvin is, SHOCKER, just a little kid.  A little kid who likes muffins and dolls and has big hopes and dreams.  A little kid whose love for science and unrecognized creativity is channeled into making inventions that are even more impressive than those of Professor P (sorry P).  But he is a little kid with his own needs and stuggles which at this point remain unmet.  His parents are canonically neglectful, I cannot repeat that enough times.  The effects of neglect are a hell-hole of its own regardless of growing up with undiagnosed autism.  But that's just a theory- Alright, that was a banger, I guess next up is Melvin-borg since writing this has given me some interesting ideas for him.  Let’s see how long this hyperfocus train will go!

this is gonna be a bit messy and stuff so excuse me for that, and maybe this is me just bein Autistic And Projecting, but like, sylas really is treated pretty bad for the heinous crime of Being Autistic 

and i mean, nobody besides philly really has any other reason to dislike him besides them thinking that he’s a Weirdo or whatever. philly has a good reason to want to keep him at arm’s length and not associate with him as much; he flirts with her and it makes her feel uncomfortable and is a tryhard with his affections

but ppl are just...kinda jerks to him, especially jan and ana. and it’s not that i’m like ‘aww they should all be his friends!’, it’s that they go out of their way to be malicious towards him. ana shoehorns in the fact that she thinks sylas is a joke while talking about lucy (despite the fact that he’s a strong/competent magician), january seeks him out do harm him (a shot from the crystal shooter should only be enough to bruise but she focuses SO MUCH on taking him down that it cracks through a tree like, Pls Chill), and then goes on to taunt him for having an emotional melt down, and tetsu adds onto the taunting (saying that him winning is a let down and that they didn’t expect him to even get this far, once again, despite him proving over and over that he’s a competent and strategic magician)

and tetsu and philly are also very much autistic coded (and isra but to narrow this down i’m keepin it Teen Focused, for now at least) just like sylas ya kno? and all three of them have trouble with social boundaries and understanding social cues at times (sylas trying to hard with philly and trying to insert himself in social situations, tetsu with su-yeong, philly with lucy)

but ppl really do just think so little of sylas because of these certain traits, going so far as to assume that he’s just a Joke or shouldn’t be there despite? constantly proving otherwise. but since they think he’s ‘weird’ or a pushover because he tries to avoid things he’s not comfortable with, they assume that he’s easy to take down, sb who’s not a threat. even lapointe, sb who’s taught him and knows what he’s capable of, has this attitude to an extent cus she clearly favored seiji and wanted him to be the one to win, then when it was sylas she kind of has that air of like....she knows he can win, but it’s like he’s Second Best in a way; she didn’t think he’d outlast seiji and now her expectations are doubled for him cus he’s The Last Bet (at least until january)

sylas is both pushed into situations where he’s supposed to excel AND viewed as incompetent of those expectations at the same time. and a lot of those judgements, i feel like, come from the fact that idk sylas’ traits don’t have any ‘’’’’’’’’’’redeeming’’’’’’’’’’ qualities, aka, they don’t work with neurotypical ppl’s and ppl who aren’t autistic’s way of viewing autistic ppl. he can’t be coddled like philly is and he doesn’t fit neurotypical character’s views of ‘cool smart’ character like tetsu does (both of which are their own issues in and of themselves but i’m running out of steam so put a lil pin in that one). the interests he does have he’s seen as Bad At (like his poetry) and that’s just like...ya kno sometimes i feel like autistic ppl just Can’t Like Things And Be Bad At Them. we’re always expected to bring SOME kind of benefit to neurotypical ppl and this is just me going into a bit of personal territory but it seems like in mainstream media you really do only get, a lot of the time, either the Super Smart And A Bit Awkward But Witty And Sharp autistic character or the Cute Sweet Protect Them At All Costs autistic character 

i don’t have like a neat and tidy conclusion to this except that characters rlly r just kinda mean to him because he’s ‘Weird’ and also imma shoehorn in here how i rlly like seiji and sylas’ friendship because seiji like, he teases him (maybe a bit too much at times if chapter five is anything to go by), but he also respects him and his abilities and supports the things he likes and encourages him to keep at those things, simply because he likes them (’did you really think it was ten out of ten?’ ‘oh absolutely buddy’), and he doesn’t expect sylas to be anything more than who he is, his friendship and companionship is all he needs from him and that’s nice
