feeling creative in the kitchen again so here's some food dreams i have for the foreseeable future:
i made a rice bowl for breakfast/lunch (honestly i usually just combine these meals together lol) and along with rice in my rice cooker i put a TON of ginger, scallions, soy sauce, mirin, fish sauce, + a drizzle of sesame oil 2 flavor my rice as well as an egg to soft boil it, i ate this with fishwife mackerel and 1/2 an avocado
miso glazed cod broiled til it's golden !!!! just craving that delicate flakiness that cod provides and i know i have some in my freezer i can thaw, not sure what to eat it with tho, any ideas are welcome !
my gf picked up a baguette from the patisserie near us and i have some kerrygold salted butter + radishes for a snack
i made another batch of miso brown butter chocolate chip cookie dough to scoop and freeze for single serve cookie emergencies
dreaminggg of some kind of creme brulee or panna cotta with cardamom and plums or pears ? or maybe a tart? possibly topped with toasted brown butter pistachios? i'm not sure but i have the most delicious plums and pears in my fridge that i need to use in something and im feeling very inspired by creamy desserts right now
craving the buttery richness of a thick slab of salmon basted in herbs and a good butter or something along these lines
a brown butter and sage gnocchi and sweet potato dish of some kind? not sure, this idea is still marinating
my easy go to meal is a turkey sandwich with pesto and goat cheese and i got these jarred roasted red peppers i think would be delicious with that
i've made a really delightful avocado, radish, bean salad before with a bright vinaigrette that could be tasty especially when eaten cold (it was like randomly 90 degrees today after being fall vibes for weeks so. crispy cold veg sounds delightful all of a sudden)

As you login to a work computer at Site-φ’s main base, you notice a new notification in your SCiPNET inbox. As the computer renders the splash image at a snail's pace, you squint at the title. The Phi-thon? It turns out to be a monthly newsletter... but what catches your eye is the announcement of a new member for THE BROKEN SCALES OF THEMIS.

The monthly menu for March, as curated by CHEF DE CUISINE Fulgence Carême, will be available for a limited time alongside the regular menu with meat, fish, vegetarian, as well as vegan options for our staff.
BREAKFAST (6AM - 10:30 AM)
Sausage Royale Croissant Roll with cheddar cheese, beef sausage patty, two strips bacon, fried egg. Garnished with dill and parsley. With spiced ketchup to taste.
Salmon Belly Royale Croissant Roll with wild salmon, crème fraîche, spinach and collard green hollandaise, topped with ikura-style salmon roe and salmon skin cracklings.
Mushroom Royale Croissant Roll (V) with grilled portobello, cremini, and king oyster mushrooms, crispy shallots, onion jam, and a herby rosemary sauce.
LUNCH (12 PM - 5 PM)
Cheese & Leek Croquettes with yukon gold potatoes, confit pearl onions, and black garlic chips.
Soft-shell Crab Tempura Burger with deep-fried whole soft-shell crab, pickled cabbage, sorrel, arugula, iceberg lettuce, ponzu vinaigrette or parmesan mayo. Comes with old bay fries.
Heirloom Tomato Preserve Flatbread (V) with arkansas traveler, aunt ruby's german green, hillbilly, and purple calabash varieties. Comes with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip.
DINNER (5 PM - CLOSE)
Slow-roasted Pistachio Lamb with mint and pistachio crusted lamb leg, roasted cauliflower and new potatoes, horseradish cream, and truffle-infused gravy.
Pan-seared Yuzu Scallops with hazelnuts, clementine slices, and yuzu beurre blanc sauce. Comes with a light slaw salad.
Crispy Hen-of-the-Woods Mushroom Platter (V) with a medley of grilled wild mushrooms, artichokes, asparagus, and quinoa-wild rice pilaf. Garnished with walnuts and vegan pesto.
DESSERT Fresh seasonal berries with Chai-spiced Clotted Cream with strawberries, blueberries, currants, blackberries, and gooseberries. Chai spice contains clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and ginger.

i made the most amazing sandwich just now
recipe below lol
2 pieces of long sourdough lightly toasted for bread
right out of the toaster spread one side of each piece with a thin layer of butter, let that cool while you do the rest of this stuff
smash/chop one clove fresh garlic and a sprigs worth of rosemary leaves (like 1-2tbsp i suppose)
hopefully you have a boiled egg, if not boil one real quick: bring water to a nice strong boil FIRST then gently drop cold egg into boiling water for 5min:soft 7min:med 9min:hard then place in bowl of ice or very cold water for a while
now go back to your toast. it should be fairly room temp by now and the little bit of butter should be fully soaked up, so go ahead and spread a thin layer of mayo on there. if you’re out of mayo, and you have an egg and 1/4 cup of oil and a lemon or lime and some salt (and a whisk or hand mixer or immersion blender to make it easier), no you’re not out of mayo, go look up a five minute recipe, you will have very good mayo once you follow that
anyway, hopefully you have pesto. if so, use a spoon to put a little on each slice of toast and use the back of the spoon to spread it around thinly on top of the mayo. if not, whatever, no big deal, chopped fresh basil leaves will also work well here, but either way sprinkle your fresh garlic and rosemary mixture evenly over top of this. crack some black pepper all over that shit and parmesan if you’re fancy
put some spinach or other leafy green on one side of the toast. this will be your bed for your eggs and also a nice leaf for your body to enjoy. optional tomato/onion here as well if you have and like them
now go ahead and peel your boiled egg if you haven’t, then cut it in half and then each half into halves. do this over the sandwich to make sure no egg drops on the floor or counter or whatever especially if it’s boiled softer. arrange the pieces nicely on the toast, you can add a second egg if your toast is big enough
ok, so we’re almost done. sprinkle a little salt on the egg pieces, pepper too, parmesan if you’re like me, then take extra virgin olive oil and BARELY zigzag it across that sandwich. like a light drizzle at most you know. then do the same with some balsamic vinegar. you can also skip the oil and vinegar and use a premixed vinaigrette
then put your second piece of toast on top and you’re done! if it’s more than 5 inches across i suggest cutting it in half to make it more manageable

relationship status: *Flashes her wedding ring* favourite colour: Red! It's my signature color. favourite food: There is a glorious sandwich at a cafe in my hometown that is so good it sends me into the STRATOSPHERE. It's tomato, mozzerella, arugula, balsamic vinaigrette, and cilantro pesto on chibatta bread that they bake in house. It's amazing. last thing I googled: I looked up the code for adding a link to AO3 so I could just copy and paste it. 😅 dream trip: I have always wanted to see midnight sun and/or polar night, so any place that experiences that would be amazing.

Throughout the course of the afternoon, my coworker(s) and I consumed the following:
Burrata - with a warm sweet pepper relish, basil pesto, and sourdough toast
Lamb hummus - Lebanese spiced lamb, paprika, olive oil, and za’atar spiced fried naan bread
Golden crab cakes - oven baked, with a passion fruit glaze, olive tarter sauce and tobiko
Salmon croquettes - with chipotle aioli, tartar sauce, and tobiko
Grilled octopus - grilled Portuguese octopus with Mediterranean potatoes, herbed citrus oil, and a roasted pepper vinaigrette
Peking duck tacos - roasted duck in a soft flour tortilla with a Caribbean Coke slaw, hoisin sauce, and mango and pineapple chutney
A few glasses of rose and a hibiscus Margarita, and many many many many many refills of water (I don’t know the last time I was so hydrated).

Kellogg’s NYC is a now-closed “cereal cafe” that took up residence in Times Square- and then Union Square- from 2016 to 2019. In that short time, the cereal giant-owned cafe hosted a number of events, including one for National Cereal Day, and another for Pop-Tarts.
Another of these events was a two-day residency helmed by famed pastry chef and ‘Ace of Cakes’ Duff Goldman. Goldman created his own cereal-themed menu for the occasion, which included food- main course and dessert alike, and one drink!

and the Not So Mini Mini-Wheats Upside Down Cake, a pineapple and Frosted Mini-Wheats cake a la mode with pan-toasted Rice Krispies.
Interestingly, one offering was present in advertising for the event, but didn’t seem to make it to the official menu. This was some flavor (ha) of Froot-Loops-themed macaron and cookie with a color-changing rainbow custard that came out of a toothpaste tube.

Donations made during the short residency were given to the charity No Kid Hungry. Customers could also buy themed merchandise, such as the aformentioned Duff-designed cereal bowl.
