Peter Lorre (The Maltese Falcon, Arsenic and Old Lace, Casablanca)—to me he DEFINES scrungle hes the first person i think of every time the term comes up! i want to fold him up like a paper accordion and put him in my pocket. guy that spawned a million voice artists and impersonators. they made a ghost version of him for halloween cereal staple boo berry. bewitched by his nervous mania and tooth gap <3 (for the purposes of propaganda im linking a photo from his extremely short appearance in muscle beach party bc ive been obsessed w it for years and i couldnt find any video for it :/ anyway imagine youre frankie avalon spending the whole movie battling a bodybuilder faction thats taking over your beach and your girl and then you find out this fucking guy is their mastermind mystery leader and hes stronger than all the bodybuilders combined. like Huh. Elsa Lanchester (The Bride of Frankenstein, Witness for the Prosecution, Mary Poppins)—Surely somebody's already submitted Elsa Lanchester for this right? Right??? Because her scrungle levels are OFF THE CHARTS in literally everything. The way she's Katy Nanna straight-up refusing to spend another minute with Jane and Michael Banks because she has DIGNITY thank you very much. The way she's Mary Goddamn Shelley stuck listening to Lord Byron mansplaining literature like "ha ha maybe even YOUR little monster story will be published" and she shoots back "It *WILL* be published, *I* think!!!" in the most bright-as-nails fuck-you-Byron voice imaginable. The way she's a nurse herding her lawyer charge through a sordid love-triangle case and we gradually realize the real love story was between her and the lawyer all along. The way she's a clandestine witch casting hexes on telephones, the way she's a princess's PA and helps an old friend steal an invitation card, the way she's a cleaning lady who goes to Germany to personally assassinate Hitler, the way she's a posh village worthy trying to impress Danny Kaye, the way ERRGHH i could go on just look at her scrungle.

Peter Lorre:

he's pretty much the archetype of the scrungly little guy. the blueprint. the example by which all other scrungly little guys are judged

The entire point of his iconic role in Casablanca (apart from introducing the central plot mcguffin) was to be LITTLE and SCRUNGLY to make Bogie look even cooler. And Maggot in Corpse Bride - the littlest scrungliest guy in that film - was a parody of him.

Between his big eyes, wheezy laugh, short stature, and expressive faces, Peter Lorre achieved icon status as the scrungliest, littlest guy in Hollywood. His scrungly little guy energy was often contrasted with the more typical masculinity of the leading man, but whether this contrast was meant to make him seem especially sinister, comedic, or pathetic, it always left an unforgettable impression!

The perfect sniveling character actor, “scrungly” is the first word that comes to mind when I think of him.

I'm sure somebody else has already submitted him (if not then ???) but he's a cute kind of scrungly little guy. He's got a distinctive nasal voice with an accent that is instantly recognizable and often imitated. His later horror movies are so much fun, especially when he's playing off of Vincent Price. He's so good at being unhinged, creepy, or manic, but also pathetic and sympathetic.

Classic scrungly hollywood golden age little guy who was friends with Humphrey Bogart and still played some of the wettest most sniveling characters ever committed to celluloid (complimentary) there is a deep despair and darkness in many of his characters that enhances his scrungly

To be clear, I am one of those people who will argue that Lorre is one of the most underrated film actors, but the POINT is that he's also just a scrungly delight. A delightfully pocket-sized man. Somehow endearing even when he is being actively amoral (see esp. Casablanca. "I found myself much more reasonable!") The faces he makes while doing the Russian cossack dance with a butter knife between his teeth in Silk Stockings make me laugh just thinking about them.

Wikipedia described his typical characters as "timidly devious", lots of weird little villains and evil sidekicks that are pretty horrifying but still manage to be sort of pathetic and the very definition of "poor little meow meow". His look and voice and mannerisms are so iconic they're still imitated

Cartoons for the next century have and will continue to include Peter Lorre-esque characters when needed to up the scrunge factor (see Bugs Bunny and so many more).

I think Arsenic and Old Lace is his quintessential "scrungly" performance. He's so put-upon and tired...all he wants is sleep and some schnapps! I love the way his shoulders fall slowly when he thinks he's caught (he looks like a sad puppy!), only to gleefully sprint out the door when he realizes how dumb those police officers are.

post mortem, L (the creak in the attic) is mute and uses mime/sign language and possession as forms of aac

donnie (the detective vs. the christmas tree bandits), my personal blorbo, is explicitly stated to have adhd and a seizure disorder- likely photosensitive epilepsy based on the mentions of the lights in the strip club. "i was never good with numbers" could be interpreted as dyscalculia as well. frankie may also have adhd bc again genetics, but if he does he can mask like a motherfucker

chip (the cardboard stegosaurus) has an unspecified seizure disorder (although i can't find one that turns you french), and while she isn't present, we learn that his mother marie-claire was suicidal

queen of representation that she is, amanda (clarissa's diy wedding) is all but confirmed to have prosopagnosia, or face blindness

Sirius works for the DE, but only because he's doing what he thinks is best for his brother (they don't have the weird yuri and yor sis-con dynamic, instead Sirius is just super protective over him and is PISSED when he finds out that his brother got eloped to some rando he's never even met????)

he's pretty much the archetype of the scrungly little guy. the blueprint. the example by which all other scrungly little guys are judged

The entire point of his iconic role in Casablanca (apart from introducing the central plot mcguffin) was to be LITTLE and SCRUNGLY to make Bogie look even cooler. And Maggot in Corpse Bride - the littlest scrungliest guy in that film - was a parody of him.

Between his big eyes, wheezy laugh, short stature, and expressive faces, Peter Lorre achieved icon status as the scrungliest, littlest guy in Hollywood. His scrungly little guy energy was often contrasted with the more typical masculinity of the leading man, but whether this contrast was meant to make him seem especially sinister, comedic, or pathetic, it always left an unforgettable impression!

The perfect sniveling character actor, “scrungly” is the first word that comes to mind when I think of him.

I'm sure somebody else has already submitted him (if not then ???) but he's a cute kind of scrungly little guy. He's got a distinctive nasal voice with an accent that is instantly recognizable and often imitated. His later horror movies are so much fun, especially when he's playing off of Vincent Price. He's so good at being unhinged, creepy, or manic, but also pathetic and sympathetic.

Classic scrungly hollywood golden age little guy who was friends with Humphrey Bogart and still played some of the wettest most sniveling characters ever committed to celluloid (complimentary) there is a deep despair and darkness in many of his characters that enhances his scrungly

To be clear, I am one of those people who will argue that Lorre is one of the most underrated film actors, but the POINT is that he's also just a scrungly delight. A delightfully pocket-sized man. Somehow endearing even when he is being actively amoral (see esp. Casablanca. "I found myself much more reasonable!") The faces he makes while doing the Russian cossack dance with a butter knife between his teeth in Silk Stockings make me laugh just thinking about them.

Wikipedia described his typical characters as "timidly devious", lots of weird little villains and evil sidekicks that are pretty horrifying but still manage to be sort of pathetic and the very definition of "poor little meow meow". His look and voice and mannerisms are so iconic they're still imitated

Cartoons for the next century have and will continue to include Peter Lorre-esque characters when needed to up the scrunge factor (see Bugs Bunny and so many more).

“What could this be?” Clint wonders as he pulls open the door for me.

“No idea Packman. Maybe it’s wedding stuff.” I shrug. But don’t miss the glance between the three of them. “Do you know?” I lift a brow at them.

“No idea.” Steve cuts his eyes to my brothers gathering outside their car.

“I’m sure you’re right, wedding stuff.” Bucky comes towards me, slipping his hand to the small of my back, guiding me forward.

“Ah huh.” I glance at him before my brothers. Becca looks to be edging into a nervous breakdown.

“Don’t go getting a head of yourself.” TC chuckles next to me.

I eye him slowly as we round the side of the house.

Something is off.

“You know if I find out you’re lying to me, I’ll torch all of your asses.” I comment cutting between my siblings, leaving the boys with them.

“Nothing to lie about smalls.” Howie’s quick to reply.

I turn on dime, forcing them all to stop.

Gwen looks down at her belly. Becca picks at her thumb nail. All six boys have blank looks. Wanda’s head tips looking past me.

“Something wrong, smalls?” My father’s voice making me turn around.

George, my soon to be father in law standing next to him. Another man with them I hadn’t met before.

“If my siblings come up missing, I’ve torched them and put them in the woods with brock.” I shrug, walking towards the three men. George chuckles, pulling out a chair for me at the patio table.

“Now that’s no way to handle your problems.” My father sighs.

“At least she makes jokes about Brock now.” Peter smirks pulling a seat out for Gwen.

“You’ll be next big brother.” I blow him a kiss, as Bucky sits next to me. He chuckles, reaching over to pat my thigh.

“You can’t put bodies in the same place, that’s how they get found.” He reminds me.

Glancing over at him, I smirk. “Bet Frankie knows some places extra secluded.” My father and George exchanging a look, smirking at one another.

“You weren’t kidding when you said she is ruthless.” The strange man comments. I notice Wanda isn’t sitting.

“Red?” I sit up, leaning forward.

My father nods, looking from the man to Wanda.

“What are you doing here?” She snaps suddenly.

My eyes cut to my father.

“Who is he?” TC stays standing, watching the man.

“My names Logan.” He spoke in a deep, gruff voice. Dark hair greying. Well built, a salt and pepper beard.

“He works for my father.” Wanda adds.

“Oh fuck.”

“Shit.”

“Fuck.”

“What’s he doing here?” I ask, looking at my father.

He clears his throat, adjusting in his seat.

“If he’s dead just say it and leave.” Wanda huffs, crossing her arms over her chest.

“He’s not dead.” George assures her.

“Your brother,” my father starts, only to be cut off by four voices.

“Brother?!”

“What brother?!”

“Wait a minute!”

“Hold the fuck on."

“Wanda has a twin, his name is Pietro.” I explain for them.

“How do we not know this?” Bucky looks to me.

I shrug. “Wasn’t important information at the time.”

“Pietro is getting released. Early.” My father finishes, nodding slowly.

“Fuck.”

“Me.”

Wanda and I blink at each other.

The guys look between us

“Released from where?” Steve wonders.

“Prison.” Peter replies.

“Your twin is doing prison time?” Bucky’s brow jumps up.

“With her father.” Howie adds.

It’s strangely quiet for a moment.

“The Russian Mafia is coming to town, boys. Strap in, a hurricane is calmer.” George shakes his head, looking at his boys. The three of them look from one another to my brothers.

“What’s this mean?” I straighten my spine.

Logan looks from Wanda to me. “Her wedding is to be done in the coming weeks.” Wanda’s hand drops quickly, Howie quickly grasps hold of one. “And he’s looking for an audience, with the Stark.” He nods. I look to my father. Only he’s looking at me. Glancing around, they all are.

“Me?” Snapping my eyes to Logan.

“Even in prison, he’s heard about you.” Logan nods.

“I’m not in charge yet.” It comes out like a whisper.

My father snickers. George chuckles softly.

“Oh darling if you think you’re not in charge, you’re wrong. Everything pushed at that table is with you in mind.” George levels me with a look.

I look to Bucky. He smirks at me.

“You’ll start sitting in and taking matters into hand in coming days.” My father explains.

“What?” I jump up.

My brother’s smirks at me.

“It’s only time you start running things, little miss.” My father smirks. I blanch for a second. “I’m not married. You’re not retiring.” I can’t quite grasp what’s being told to me.

“You’re marrying a tables son. You are the center of The Saintz and Brothers, as well as your own girl gang.” My father waves his hand at the table. Glancing around slowly.

“He isn’t wrong, Sweets.” Steve smirks at me.

Bucky slowly pulls me back down into my seat. “You know this, CK knew this, Brock knew this, Ben knows it. You are the push of all of us. Without question,” he smiles softly at me “since you walked into Saints.”

“We told you before.” Clint grins. “You want to take over, we’ll take anyone down and build you a thrown.” He shrugs.

“You know we back you on anything.” Howie winks at me.

“Ball up baby sister, you said you wouldn’t take over without the guys. It’s time to take over.” Peter smiles.

Looking to Wanda, Gwen and Becca.

Becca smirks at me. “And crush anyone who steps to you.”

When my eyes drift to TC, he smirks, shrugging. “You know I’m your right hand, no matter what comes.”

Leaning back in my chair, nodding slowly. “Fine.”

My father and George exchange a look, looking back at me.

“Just fine?” George chuckles.

“Smalls?” My father lifts a brow at me.

“My way.” Cocking my brow at him.

They laugh, nodding.

“That’s our girl.” George laughs.

“She already has a right hand?” Logan looks to my fathers.

“Problem with it?” TC cuts his look to him.

“Tony, your girl has her own mafia family.” Logan shakes his head. My father’s smirks, nodding.

frat!peter, when it's just you and him at the frat house, nuzzles into your chest and talks in his soft baby voice. normally, you're in the bedroom, and you're holding him, but this time you're on the couch, and his brothers show up without either of you noticing until you notice.

couldn't find a cute gif to go along with it. i offer this:

"im so sleepy." peter mumbles against your chest, hands rubbing up and down your sides. an action that's more soothing for him than it is for you.

your hands tangled in his hair, pouting. "I'm sorry bugs. that test was hard huh?" you asked raking your fingers from his hair down to his back. hand sneaking under his shirt scratching lightly.

"mhm it really was."

"i'm sure you did great bug."

"you think?" peter asked softly, his eyes looking up at you finally.

"totally pete you're so smart." you encouraged him. "you're a literal genius. i could never do what you do, you're in a college honors biochem class. the thought of that would make the average person sob."

"thanks bashful." he whispers pecking your lips, head dropping back down to your chest relaxing as he listens to your heartbeat.

you smiled continuing to scratch up and down his back drawing little patterns here and there as he dozes in and out of sleep. your eyes catch movement in the glass trophy case across the room. you crane your head slightly to the left seeing: harry, miles, nate, ned, and frankie watching to two of you. harry snapping a picture on his phone. you shake your head at the group and give them a warning look.

" harry i can hear your fucking snort from here. i'll kill you guys if you ever talk about this." peter says against your chest, his normal voice coming back. you hold back a laugh as you hear the boys laugh and harry mumble a small "man, fuck you."
