Number 17!!!!
hihi thank you for asking!
17. How did you get into Fire Emblem?
In 2019, a friend recommended three houses to my partner, so I watched them play it and decided I wanted to give it a go myself. Played it, loved it, played it again, loved it again, played it two more times, still loved it. After that, my partner showed me a bunch more tactics rpgs and I played and loved all of them, because it turns out that kind of gameplay is absolutely My Shit
but THEN I joined the fe subreddits and started following the fire emblem tag on tumblr and participating in fandom side instead of just playing and enjoying the games, which led to making new friends and finding new aspects to enjoy and an entirely different experience when I went back to fe3h a couple of years after playing it the first time, and now here we are 😌
-
Fire Emblem ask list, for anyone interested in participating

Bayonetta Game Ideas
Since there seems to be a lot of hope and potential for the future of the bayonetta series here are some ideas that i think are cool. Keep in mind i'm DEFINITELY not a game developer so these might seem kinda unrealistic lol.
(This idea came from a Bayo3 theory i saw back in June that i think can still work) Ok so basically Cereza gets split into half with each half representing the Eyes of the World. Basically there's a full Umbran Cereza and a full Lumen Cereza. The Umbran Cereza is more playful and represents Bayonetta's classic sass and taunts, while the Lumen Cereza is more sadistic and represents Bayonetta's deadly power. Each of the 2 Cereza's have different weapons and play styles.
Ok here me out on this one but a Fire Emblem-esque Bayonetta game, let me explain. Cereza becomes the leader of a Coven and has to recruit witches and explore the world. There are a ton of witches, each with their own weapons, demons, etc, that you can recruit. It should still play like a bayonetta game but you can switch between Cereza and the other recruited witches. Maybe even add a little bit of Animal Crossing and be able to customize the Coven place itself? Weapon crafting system? Idk out of all the ideas THIS one is my favorite.
Jeanne spinoff. That's it, just Jeanne spinoff. PG please you've been teasing a Jeanne spinoff for years PLEASEE.
(Here's a neat one that takes place right after the events of Bayo 3!) So basically Jeanne and Rodin take over Sigurd's corporation and turn it into a more of a research facility that blends science with umbran magic. Jeanne and Rodin decide to bring back Cereza by putting her soul into a robot. Think of this idea as like a mix between Ghost in the Shell and Witchcraft aesthetics. Perhaps there's some cataclysmic event and the only one that can stop it is Cereza? Maybe even part of the game could be Cereza trying to reunite with Viola? Since Bayo 3 was like a mix of Witchcraft and Sci-fi i'd be cool if they experimented with that more.
These are all the ideas that i thought were worth mentioning, again i am no game developer i just thought it would be fun to think of the future of the bayo series. do y'all have any ideas? i'd love to hear them!! :3

An Interview with Mr. Toshiyuki Toyonaga about Fire Emblem (Claude‘s Japanese VA), Pg. 7

Chatting As Just a Player
As a player, how did you play “Three Houses?”
Toyonaga When I started, I planned to complete two playthroughs, and on my first playthrough, I didn’t look up anything at all. Because of that, I didn’t know things like how to scout the characters from the other classes. Someone told me “It seems like you’re missing something,” and I thought, then maybe I have to raise their support level? But even when I did that, I still couldn’t recruit them, so next I thought that maybe it had to do with stats, and did a lot of trial and error. I only realized that it might have something to do with weapon proficiency (skill levels) and support levels during the latter half of the Academy Phase. Because of all of that, I was filled with wishes that I had recruited this character and that character as I was thrust into the War Phase, and I was filled with regret during the three-way battle. (Chapter 17 and the battle at Gronder)
Because you encountered the other students as enemies, right?
Toyonaga Yes. I remember thinking “Curse you!!” when Bernadetta attacked from the ballista because I didn’t scout her. Laughs. Having to fight the characters that I wanted to come to my side was really painful as I cleared the map. And so, that was how I played the game. I remember thinking it was a particularly pure playthrough. I also remember thinking “There’s so, so many of these!” as I collected the fallen items from around the monastery. When I think of the lost items, I remember stuff like the fish. Laughs. Fishing was fun too, and so was growing things in the greenhouse… though I forgot about it a lot, so there were some plants that didn’t grow. As you can guess, I ended up harvesting what I planted before the time skip five years later, after returning to Garreg Mach.
Which difficulty level did you choose?
Toyonaga On my first playthrough, I chose normal classic. I play with the thought process that has followed me throughout the series, that I can’t let anyone die, so I have never once chosen casual mode.
We’d like to ask you about what impressions you were left with when you played normal mode.
Toyonaga I thought that even normal was hard too! I progressed through the game without utilizing the free maps much at all. I only leveled up by completing the main maps and paralogues, so the War Phase was tough. There were many times where Claude and Byleth did nearly all of the work. I also gave Lysithea Lorenz’s Thyrsus Staff, giving her four range, so there were also a lot of situations where her magic did a lot of work even from far away. There ended up being a huge gap between Leonie and Ignatz’s levels and everyone else’s, and felt sorry about that as I continued through the game.
Did you make Lorenz a physical or a magic unit?
Toyonaga I made Lorenz a Dark Knight. He was closer to a dark mage cavalry unit. Also, I remember thinking it was kinda cool that Grappler Raphael could attack four times in a row as he punched his enemies with all his might. Marianne fulfilled the role of the healer, and Hilda swung around her axe with great force. However, my Hilda’s defense didn’t grow very much, so I kept it in my mind that she couldn’t go out on many risky missions as I played.
What scenes did you like, or what scenes left an impression on you?
Toyonaga I liked the mystery of the scenes where Byleth and Sothis spoke in the place that resembled a throne room, that was a sort of spirit world. I also really liked Seteth and Flayn’s conversations.
They’re all characters that are all similar to each other in some way!
Toyonaga They are. When their allies learned of Flayn and Seteth’s true identities and relationship, a lot happened, and their allies changed a bit… Aside from that, because Claude is an archer, I also really liked being able to hear his conversations with Shamir, as they are both archers. It felt like she was a big sister.
The developers said that this game’s storytelling, and the creation of how noble society functions, among other aspects, were developed with Genealogy of the Holy War in mind, so what sort of impression did that have on you, as someone who has many memories of that game?
Toyonaga There were many times where I thought that might be the case, that Three Houses was based on Genealogy, but as we talk about it now, I sort of think that might be why it was so easy for me to become fond of Three Houses… They both feature a type of war that doesn't really feel rewarding at all… And questions like “Who’s really behind all of this?” and “Is fighting this fight really what’s right?”, that deepened Genealogy's story, were things I also felt really strongly during the War Phase of Three Houses.
We agree! And you can even play the villain’s side of the story.
Toyonaga About that, I thought that Hubert and Dedue’s roles were so unfair! They are considered the closest confidants to Edelgard and Dimitri respectively, existing as their right-hand men. The Golden Deer don’t have anyone in that position… Lorenz would never be someone like that.
Both Laugh.
Toyonaga Lorenz finally comes to support Claude during the War Phase, but the way that Hubert and Dedue are so devoted because they are right-hand men is really moving, and as men, it’s so cool! Oh, I mean “man,” as in “manly man...”* I could talk on and on like this for five minutes about just one character. Laughs.

(above) Hubert and Dedue both serve their lord without any concern for their own well-being. Also, Mr. Toyonaga also told us that he didn’t choose a different class from the Golden Deer even for his second playthrough, so we showed him scenes like how manly (!?) Hilda acts when she faces Claude as an enemy.

It feels weird to hear your own voice
Did your impression of Claude change after recording?
Toyonaga My original impression of Claude was that his core personality cannot be changed, but aside from that, he gives off the mood that he has the flexibility to accept the opinions of many types of people… That sort of image. That part didn’t change the entire time we were recording, so after recording, I don’t think my thoughts changed then, either. I just thought from time to time that he says some pretty snobby things. Laughs.
He does. Laughs.
Toyonaga He talks like that to the professors, to his fellow students in his class… ‘He… He can say nasty things like that?!’ I thought. But I think it’s still a good part about him, or not bad, at least.
So your image for performing Claude’s role was consistent from beginning to end. Does that mean that you didn’t have to do many retakes?
Toyonaga We hardly did any retakes. I corrected myself on my own when I mispronounced town names that were difficult to say, and things like that, but aside from those physically difficult to perform lines, I don’t feel that we did that many retakes.
So how did you feel as a player when you heard Claude’s voice?
Toyonaga This much is obvious, but when I first heard my own performance in a Fire Emblem game, it felt weird. And on top of that, I don’t know why exactly, but I wanted Claude to get married and have a paired ending, and I chose Professor Byleth. So I ended up confessing to myself! Laughs.
Laughs.
Toyonaga I enjoyed the game in a way that only I could. But it was really weird the entire time. Hm, how do I put it… I wanted to express myself in the world of Fire Emblem, and wanted to confirm that I did a great job of that, so I listened really carefully to my own performance as I played the game.
That’s the point you discussed before, that you wanted a portrayal that made the game feel like it really happened in history, right?
Toyonaga Yes. Was I able to express what I wanted how I wanted? I played the game with that thought in my head. ...And lastly, this is completely unrelated, but as I played the game, I was also thinking “Ingrid sure is really cute!” the entire time. Laughs.

@omgkalyppso AND @bylaudelekha tagged me in this Fic Writing Tag Game! It’s been great seeing other replies to this. Like a one stop shop for friends’ fics! :D Consider yourself tagged if you want to take this chance to talk about your own writing.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
I have several all-time favorites lol. In terms of ships I have written for, my favorite ships are Ferdinand/Hubert, (FETH), Zuko/Katara (ATLA), and Doug/Dylas (Rune Factory 4).
How many works do you have on AO3?
269.
What's your total AO3 word count?
519,774. I should have posted one more fic before answering this just to bump it to 520k. Oh well XD
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Across ALL my AO3 fics since 2014:
What Do You Know About Me? (LazyTown Sportacus/Robbie)
Saying It First (LazyTown Sportacus/Robbie)
Choosing (Avengers Tony/Steve)
The Whims of the Universe (Marvel Cinematic Universe Tony/Loki)
The Ballad of the Princess and the Commoner (Fire Emblem: Three Houses Ferdibert)
I... keep forgetting about Choosing. That was a gift fic that kinda blew up. Shame I haven’t written much else for Avengers. However the movies ended, it’s a fun Universe to play in.
(more below the cut for interested parties. And if you fill this out, tag me so I can see!)
Do you reply to comments, why or why not?
I used to be good about replying because I know I like it when authors replied to my comments. But I’ve slipped these last few months.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
I had two whole paragraphs listed here originally to talk about two angsty fics that I intend/did intend to follow up with happy endings-- and then I remembered “24th Garland Moon” (FETH) which is, to date, the SADDEST THING I have ever written. Fluffy and hurt/comfort are my wheelhouse so writing something so different was kinda nice. Also devastating. I recommend stepping out of your genre comfort zone from time to time to give your readers whiplash.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
Many of my Lazytown prompt fills had saccharine endings just due to the nature of the show (it’s geared towards younger children if you’ve never heard of it). “Something There That Wasn’t There Before”, my Lazytown Beauty and the Beast AU, feels like the happiest ending to me because 1) EVERYONE in that story got a happy ending, even the person in the role of the ‘villain’; and 2) it was over 25 chapters so the ending felt well deserved after everything the characters went through.
Do you write crossovers?
I think about them more than I write them. Is my Felix/Ferdinand Pokemon fic “Some Curry, Some Company” technically a crossover? Sometimes the line between AU and crossover is blurry to me lol
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
On AO3, no. I’ve received some annoying comments like ones that just say “update plz” on four year old fics (this is rude and don’t do it). But no one on AO3 has left hate. On fanfiction dot net I DID get one or two ‘flames’-- more for my ships than my writing. I don’t know if that’s better.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I’ve tried my hand at it once or twice but I’ve never published anything. All fairly vanilla. Doesn’t mean my face didn’t turn scarlet >////<
[Side note: I’ve always felt it would shock my readers if I ever posted smut. All my fics are PG-13 for violence at most so I don’t feel like my ‘audience’ would go for anything more? And apart from trying my hand at something totally different, there’s no real reason for me to learn how to write smut-- most of my fanfic ideas don’t involve sex and so far none of my original story ideas have to do with sex either. Am I overthinking this? Should I just “write badly” and see where it goes? Am I considering other people too much? Vote now on your phones.]
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge! In my early days of FF.net, there was someone who had a very similar start to her story as I did, and apparently fans of my fic left angry comments on hers staying I had stolen the idea. She reached out to me to apologize (which was the first I heard of it) and explained she hadn’t meant to copy me-- she hadn’t even ever read my story! Given that I had spoofed my story concept from someone else, I didn’t hold anything against her. She was a good writing buddy for a while actually.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Someone asked to translate my fic “Choosing” into Russian but I’m having trouble remembering if that actually happened.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, and I doubt I will. I’ve talked about stories with people and been inspired by others, often giving them credit in the author’s note for the fic idea, but my writing process is too chaotic to co with anyone.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
“The Whims Of The Universe”, my soulmate AU Frostiron fic. I still want to finish it but every year I feel like I get farther from doing so. Is “I misplaced my notes and am too lazy to look hard for them” a good enough excuse? Let’s hope so.
What are your writing strengths?
Readers of both my fanfics and original stories have complimented my dialogue. People also tell me I capture character voices really well, which is always nice to hear but hits especially well if I struggled with that particular story.
My goal is to turn my vocabulary into a strength. In college I got knocked a lot for lack of variety in my word choice. It would be easy to blame this on my struggles with spelling (I tend to lean on the same words over and over since I know I can spell them) but at a certain point I had to accept I was being lazy. OneLook has helped, and so has just taking my time when editing. Last year I saw improvement in my vocabulary and I hope that continues!
What are you writing weaknesses?
Describing characters is haaaard, especially in original stories where I can’t rely on the reader knowing what the character looks like to begin with. In fanfic I can say “Katara wore a black coat and thick boots” but I don’t have to tell you she has tan skin, dark hair, and blue eyes. I find it hard to work in character description organically. Sometimes it just turned into a list of traits.
Outfits are hard too because not only do I not have any fashion sense, I have trouble naming the article of clothing I’m even imagining. Picture references help but I have more than once had to google the same word because I just plain forget what I looked up yesterday.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I think it’s fun to incorporate if it feels right for the character/moment. In my Lazytown fics I frequently used Icelandic for “Elvish” terms of endearment. As long as the reader can surmise the meaning or intend based on context, I think those kinds of words can stay untranslated. But if there’s no reason two characters should be speaking English and you still want to have the reader understand them, using italics or adding “turning to his grandmother, Mark switched to Spanish” works for me.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Avatar: The Last Airbender. Good times :3
What's your favorite fic you've written? What’s a fic you wrote that you love but hasn’t been mentioned in this game yet?
“Haunts Me Faithfully” (FETH) was a concept I wanted to write for a long while-- non-Crimson Flower Ferdibert is such a flavor. Ghosts are a fascinating thing to write and there’s so many different ways to take them. I still enjoy rereading this one.
--
Thanks for reading to the bottom! I appreciate you taking the time. Again: if you want to do this, use me as an excuse and tag me so I can read it!
#mine#omgkalyppso#bylaudelekha#writing#i stalled on doing this bc i thought id already done an ao3 thing#but this was more in depth#thank you both for the tag!!

The Magic Of Roses (FE3H fic) [Ingrid x Sylvain]
The Magic of Roses By Misha
Disclaimer- Not mine. Author’s Notes- My very first Fire Emblem fanfic!!! This one started with a request for Sylvain and Ingrid. I am still trying to get the characters and relationships just right and I hope I did ok. This is more pre-romance but it was how it played out in my head (and I have actually so far only unlocked A support for Sylvain and Ingrid in my two plays, not A+). I gave the gardener a name because I figured Sylvain would know the name of every single woman at the monastery. Pairing- Sylvain/Ingrid (kind of, more pre-romance) Rating- PG Summary- Sylvain gives Ingrid flowers on a whim and everything changes.
It started with the damn roses.
Sylvain was in the greenhouse, looking for Byleth when the gardener approached him with her hands full of roses.
“You! Take these!” She told him, shoving them into his arms.
“Marta, I’m flattered,” Sylvain said with an easy grin, “I am always happy to take flowers from a beautiful woman.”
Marta’s expression didn’t budge. “There was an excess of flower blooms this week and I need to find something to do with them. I figure you could find a recipient.”
The way she says it and the look she gives him makes him wonder just how far rumours about him have spread. Apparently even the staff are aware of his reputation.
Oh well. At least it’s to his gain.
Except as he leaves the greenhouse with an arm full of flowers, he is trying to figure out what exactly he is going to do with them. Give them to a woman, obviously, but who?
One of the ones he is currently pursuing? A possibility. But as the faces filter through his mind, he dismisses that because none of them need extra wooing at this point and roses are a very specific gesture.
He could give them to the professor, except he knew Byleth would likely roll her eyes at the extravagant gesture and ask him what he wanted, so he crossed her off his list of possibilities.
One of the girls in his class? Hilda would probably adore roses and he did enjoy the pretty smiles she gave when she was happy. Or Marianne, who had such a lovely smile when she dared, except she would probably die from embarrassment before she got around to thanking him. Mercedes would give him a very pious thank you and Annette would be enthusiastic.
And Ingrid...
Sylvain’s lip curled as he imagined his old friend’s reaction. She would roll her eyes and possibly lecture him and that would amuse him, because a part of him enjoyed riling her up, besides maybe it would catch her off-guard, as it always did when his attention landed on her... and that was fun.
He grinned, imagining her reaction. That settled it, he would give the roses to Ingrid.
He headed towards the Knight’s Hlal, knowing he would find her there, and sure enough she was there, talking to Ashe.
“Ingrid!” Sylvain called out in a sing-song voice, “I have something for you.”
“What do you want Sylvain?” Ingrid asked, the exasperation obvious and then her voice trailing off and her eyes widening as she took in the sheer number of flowers in his arms.
“The Gardner asked me to take these off her hands,” Sylvain explained, “and I couldn’t think of anyone I would rather give them to than my oldest friends”
Ingrid scoffed, “I’m sure,” but it lacked the usual bite and her eyes were fastened to the blossoms. “These are really for me?”
“For you,” Sylvain confirmed, a little surprised by her reaction, where was the eye rolling, the sarcasm and the lecture? He put the roses in her arms, watching her carefully.
“Well...” Ingrid paused, taking in a whiff of the blooms, na uncharacteristic softness on her face. She really was quite beautiful, Sylvain noted. “Thank you... I don’t think anyone has ever...” she trailed off and then seemed to regain her bearings, the softness vanishing, “but don’t think this means I will go easy on you.”
“I would never,” Sylvain assured her with a grin, “after all, how would I survive without you keeping me in line?”
Ingrid scoffed, but there was humor to it. “I should... Go do something with these,” she declared and then hurried away, her arms full of roses, a spring to her step.
“That was really nice of you, Sylvain,” Ashe murmured, surprising Sylvain because he had forgotten that he was even there.
“Yeah...” Sylvain agreed distractedly, remembering the way Ingrid had smiled at him, the softness that had come over her face. He wasn’t used to see Ingrid soft and I had unnerved him, that and the realization of just how beautiful she was...
He shook his head, this was crazy, this was Ingrid. His old friend, the first person to lecture him and tell him what a selfish skirt chaser he was, and the last person he should be thinking of like that.
The flowers were too blame, he decided, they had somehow gotten to both of them and made everything weird. But soon he would do something to piss her off and she would yell at him and all would be back to normal.
And that was a good thing.
It was.
And yet, Sylvain made a mental note to start giving Ingrid flowers more often. Just to keep her off her toes and off his back, of course, no other reason. Nothing to do with the way she had smiled at him. Of course not.
* End

there’s so, so, SO much nonsense surrounding this game that i’m gonna do my best to separate it into digestible bits, with its own categories. even then this is... wow. it’s big.
Warning tags will be added at the start of every section, but the general gist is: incest, pedophilia mentions, fetishization of rape and abuse, fetishization of mlm, fetishization of people of color, racism, ableism, nb erasure and transphobia. aside of the warnings, this post will also touch upon Scummy Business Practices
let’s get going
Dana Rune’s and Elle’s lack of moral fiber: #incest #pedophilia#rape and abuse fetishization #homophobia
tl;dr: dana loves incest porn, elle loves guy on guy rape, and the both of them are friends with at least one pedophile
dana rune has run, is still running an incest zine (please visit my faq on what i think about “thats not really incest” and “it’s just fictional!”). The Arcana, as a dev team, clearly does not care, as shown in their e-mail responses.
dana also very much doesn’t care and has reacted to any criticism on this by dismissing people and blocking actual incest victims who tried to contact her about it claiming it was for her “mental health”
in some tweets she claims she “interprets” the characters as not siblings, but she never really cared enough to cover her ass when it all began (she happily admits she’d “cross the incest line”)
dana has commissioned artists who also ship incest, draw near-pedophilic art that’s supposed to pass as acceptable because the character involved is supposedly not a minor despite looking like a child down to wearing pigtails (the character is also wearing a racist-ass belly dancer outfit), AND even made white-washed fanart of The Arcana.
dana follows twitter user kapymui who also produces incestuous Fire Emblem art
dana has retweeted omocat long after it came out that omocat is, at the very least, consuming pedophilic content (on “omocat didn’t know what shota meant!”: yes they did)
moving on, elle has a long, long, LONG history of fetishizing mlm and the rape and abuse that comes with yaoi and had a rich, RICH “yaoi” tag before they deleted their tumblr
they curiously deleted their tumblr right after i made this reblog
shortly after that, tumblr user thalassiq remade and started attacking and insulting any blogs criticizing them - even people providing support in IMs. Since this doesn’t match Dana and Elle’s normal pity parties I’m personally willing to believe they were just a person wanting to start shit - but it’s so telling how Elle used this chance to dismiss everyone who disagrees with them by calling them “children” and did not even bother to offer a kind word to people who were harassed and even had their trauma mocked by this person. It costs 0 dollars to say “that was not me but I’m sorry about people who were hurt.”
Dana and Elle are close with Ava’s Demon creator Michelle Czajkowski aka that one person who endorses child porn of her characters, and even had her draw a promo image for the game. Michelle has been creating highly sexualized content of her minor characters for a while now.
ok so elle and dana are gross freaks, how is that related to the game?
oh it’s very very related
Dana Rune’s and Elle’s lack of moral fiber that’s Actually Inside The Game or The Game’s Blog: now with more #racism #fetishization of poc and mlm #whitewashing #fat hate #pedophilia #nb erasure #transphobia
tl;dr: the arcana is filled to the brim with racism! so much of it! haha holy shit! and that’s not even where it ends!!!
their game is rated PG-13 but includes incredibly sexual situations such as Julian making this fucking face while getting off on pain. This isn’t the only time Dana and Elle use their videogame aimed at young teens to showcase their kinks and fetishes. I have no issue with NSFW or titillating content, as long as it’s rated accordingly. This content is NOT and it’s a blatant disregard for their audience just to have a larger, more pliable demographic and have more money sent their way.
if you start your argument with “well, teenagers look at porn” 1. shut up 2. theres a HUGE difference between teenagers going after adult content aimed at adults, and adults creating content they know will be seen by kids barely starting puberty
as pointed above, dana has 0 qualms literally commissioning people who make whitewashed fanart of her own fucking game that’s supposed to be all about the inclusivity and safe spaces
thearcanagame blog has a pattern of reblogging whitewashed fanart (before you come in swinging with the good ole “ITS THE LIGHTING”: 1. no it isnt 2. the artist should’ve picked better lightning then 3. i draw and post shit online too so dont come telling me i just dont understaaaand),
fanart of their fat characters showed skinnier than they are in their sprites (although to be real for a moment - Portia is curvy at most and them behaving she’s fat rep is HILARIOUS).
going back to NSFW content: nadia and asra are overwhemlingly sexualized in the game, and were the first to have sexualized CGs and sprites introduced.
CGs: Asra’s here, here aND HERE, Nadia’s here with a NSFW warning because she’s just got her whole fucking ass out. Sprites: Asra’s thank god for whoever compiled it all in one image, Nadia’s and once again, NSFW warning lmfao!
Julian’s sprites on the other hand are noticeably tamer, including the one where he’s fucking strapped in leather. His only sexual (NSFW warning because its literally softcore tentacle porn WHICH, ONCE AGAIN, SHOULDN’T BE PUT IN A GAME AIMED AT 13YOS) CGs were also included months after Nadia and Asra received any of theirs.
Through all of the updates, people have constantly requested that Asra and Nadia’s sexualization be toned down, and time after time The Arcana just churned out fetishistic, hypersexualized content at an absurd rate, especially when compared to the one white love interest.
Oh, speaking of the one white love interest: Julian is based off of Jeff Goldblum (this is not spectulation - they p much bring it up at any given time) but like. If Jeff Goldblum was white. They base their favorite love interest off their supposed favorite man in the world but casually leave his skin tone behind. Lmao.
they also play favorites very obviously - in the prologue, Nadia and Asra have a romance paid scene each. Julian has a scene... that requires no coins. Julian was also the first LI to receive three CGs, two of them requiring no coins, while both Asra’s and Nadia’s first CGs were behind a paywall
Dana and Elle have been notoriously skittish about confirming or denying their characters’ ethnicities. After hyping for weeks on thearcanagame that they would confirm the character’s races they basically made a post that amounted to “well they’re not white lol!”
they only relented after the perfectly understandable outrage... and posted a thread about it on Elle’s twitter. Nothing on the actual thearcanagame blog. Anyway, here’s the thread. Note how there’s mention of Julian being Jeff Goldblum... but nothing about him and Portia being Jewish (or “fantasy Jewish” as it were).
The one time they did confirm their jewishness dana then backpedaled and said she shouldn’t have done that lol.
another fun tidbit of how well The Arcana handles race and how much it cares about feedback from fans: an ask was sent about an anon begging for Nadia to step on them. The blog, with the finesse of a bunch of horny dumbasses, didn’t just publish the ask, but approved of it (even though the fans of color had long, long, LONG been telling everyone not to fetishize Nadia into a “step on me kween” wet dream). People were outraged, of course, and the blog ~apologized~ and said they were still learning.... then a new chapter included a scene of Nadia stepping on the Apprentice. 🙃
not to mention elle, on their twitter, made a passive aggressive “women can be doms?” tweet, trying to twist it into a “yr oppressing women” angle (when the issue is that women of color are always constantly portrayed as aggressive and domineering)
Now for a wombo combo of racism and Elle’s fetishization of mlm:
the devs have spoken at length of how Julian’s and Asra’s relationship was quite unhealthy. In a paid scene in Asra’s route, they’re depicted as Asra being disgusted w Julian touching him+Julian following Asra to his shop when Asra refused his offer to go with him (aka julian... stalked him lmfao).
.......... this scene is promptly followed by a highly sexual scenario where Julian’s pain fetish is played up. Remember how this game is rated PG-13? Me neither. Asra’s previous disgust with Julian is also forgotten, for some reason (and by some reason i mean Elle wants to make them fuck w/o buildup or logic).
Then Asra’s route has yet another paid scene dedicated to Asrian, even though he’s supposed to not even like Julian! And be head over heels with the Apprentice! But Elle just has to make these two be entangled despite insisting their relationship was not good for either of them!
Now here’s the kicker: Julian doesn’t have any paid scenes related to his romance with Asra. Note how it’s one of the brown LIs whose route is highjacked by the white LI, but not vice versa. Hmmmmm.
Now, on the topic of Asra: thearcanagame has said repeatedly that he’s nb and uses he/him pronouns, and promised (since last year) that there would be dialogue where he speaks about his gender
as of the making of this post such dialogue still does not exist
so basically asra is the nb to dumbledore’s gay: anyone who just plays the game w/o keeping up with the official blog has no idea of what asra’s gender is supposed to be.
aka he’s not nb. he’s just a cis guy. the arcana just doesn’t want to put its money where its mouth is, i dont care if elle is nb themself. the team made a promise which has not been fulfilled yet and i suspect will not be.
instead, our introduction to canon nb characters is... these two.
By “these two” i mean neither vulgora nor valdemar are even fucking human, and stick out like sore thumbs with their monstruousness.
so our nb rep is... non-human villains. a few books later one of Nadia’s sisters with they/them pronouns shows up, but that’s too little too late on top of the fact that we should’ve known Asra was nb from the first to begin with. It’s a fucking embarrassment and an insult.
at least two villains are visibly disabled (Lucio’s missing arm and Volta’s blind eye+intentionally asymmetrical face). Julian’s eye doesn’t count because, spoilers, he’s not lacking an eye and even if he was it’d still be hidden behind a dashing eyepatch instead of grotesquely displayed as a sign of his lacking morality.
BUT WAIT! IT DOESN’T EVEN END THERE!
The Arcana Exploits The App Business Model To Price Their Full Game at $500, $1000 if the three extra routes make it out, and they never delivered their Kickstarter rewards:
tl;dr: you heard me
the original price per route was planned on being $1.99
they took that “subject to change” really seriously, it seems, because now each route, once the game is fully out, is estimated to cost around $170 each.
both those screenshots are taken from this post which explains in detail just how truly scummy all of The Arcana’s business model and decisions are: https://mysticmicrotransactions.tumblr.com/post/174308723344/dishonesty-from-the-arcana
the tl;dr is basically what’s listed in the beginning of this section, but other highlights from that post are: the use of addictive gambling mechanics such the Wheel of Fortune, and the dazzling calls to action in the new mini-game.
something that The Arcana supporters forget (or choose to ignore) is the fact that for a long, long time the game did not have the mini-game or the log-in rewards for coins. Players depended only on the gambling of the WoF or paying absurd amounts of money for the new chapters.
the devs went from playing the victims who were unable of controlling prices to (as spoken of in the link from mysticmicrotransactions) saying the making of the game (a pathetic little app game backed by a studio and a kickstarter) justifies the prices
they also gave people false hope about maybe changing the prices in the future, all while bleeding money from loyal players in “micro” transactions
the arcana literally added a $99.99 coins option on their latest update
in case it hasn’t sunk in yet: you can pay a hundred dollars upfront to the arcana, and you still will not have access to the whole game
there is no defense to this
none
“it’s free stop whining” let me explain:
“spend months on end accumulating fake currency or pay hundreds of dollars up-front to be able to play” is a scummy business model no matter how you look at it
if i can spend $60 upfront to play an AAA game there’s no excuse to demand more than that for a game with much smaller and, honestly, inferior content
the combination of there being already far and few games featuring lgbt characters and characters of color AND the little cult of personality set up by Dana and Elle makes people feel that spending money to support them is an acceptable expense.
it’s not
manipulating people into spending ridiculous amounts of money and then claiming “it’s their choice” is just scummy business, baby, and thats all the arcana does
the devs are brats who instead of admitting $500 is absurd for a game instead write petty little caricatures into their game - like, lbr: dana, elle, if i could afford diamonds in my hair i wouldn’t have even bothered with your shitstain of a game
despite bragging that ppl would get the full story w/o needing to pay, the paid scenes are pretty much required - the first few books of julian’s route have no romance without accessing any of the paid options. you dont even get so much as a kiss in without handing coins over. many, many people were baffled when julian had a teary break-up scene when from their perspective they hadn’t even started building a relationship.
wow that’s more than i ever thought it’d be
and i’ve been aware of their bullshit for near a whole year now!
i don’t have much of a note to end this on, other than: the arcana just isn’t even that good. it suffers from weak writing, pathetic character development and above all actually harmful content. do not try to argue with me on any of these points unless you’ve read all of that, because whatever you have to say i’ve likely mentioned before. if you still are that determined to yell at a me on the internet, please preface your argument with the phrase “I’m a pee pee poo poo man” so I know you’ve read everything in here. thank you!

10!!!!!!!!!
woooo thanks for asking!!
10. Favorite weapon type
I think I'm going to have to go with bows. I do love the standard issue sword-weilding FE Lord, but bows have that certain je ne sais quoi that other weapons lack. Even though you can't actually counter melee in older titles, which significantly reduces versatility in a lot of situations, I find I lean towards characters who are light and speedy in general (they don't get hit and can double everyone lol) which tends to mean innate archers. (shout out Rebecca von fe7, who is capable of carrying my entire team somehow).
Worth noting I've also turned to bows when characters in fe3h weren't doing well in other classes and found their usefulness increase significantly overnight. Currently, Lorenz is having a great time as a sniper.

Hey there people! Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm down to roleplay on this site! Heads up, I do also do original world type roleplays!
Here are my rules:
1.) I don't mind cussing at all in the roleplays, but please, if I am roleplaying with someone or several people, don't barge in and ruin it. It's very rude and it is also very annoying.
2.) Please have good grammar, spelling, and punctuation. If bad grammar and spelling is not always constant, that is fine, especially if its just when messing around. But if its constant, then just go. Go away. It really gets on my nerves when it happens, so just simply leave and rp with someone else.
3.) I do not mind romance, whether it be PG, or mature, but if it is mature, I don't mean full on mature, only like, small bits, enough to be able to have a post in public.
4.) Don't make yourself invincible. It completely takes the fun out of roleplaying. Also, don't be a Mary Sue either.
5.) If I am roleplaying with you, and something comes up to where you have to disappear for a while, please me know if you can. I would greatly appreciate it. It also helps me be able to roleplay with someone else until you come back, if you do.
My fandoms:
~Non-anime fandoms~
-Harry Potter
-Supernatural
-Stranger Things
-Beetlejuice (Seriously...It's not even truly scary. If anything, it is actually more or less more comedy than anything. And that is coming from someone who doesn't like scary movies.)
-Resident Evil
-Creepypasta (Ben Drowned is my favorite. Also, I don't mind doing CreepyPasta roleplays.)
~Video Game fandoms~
-Legend of Zelda (LoZ)
-Persona 5
-Pokemon
-The Atelier series
-Atelier Online: Alchemist of Bressisle (It's a mobile Atelier Game and it's really fun. You can make your own name and underneath the main game title, it'll say Atelier [Your chosen name]. For example, mine says Atelier Vyla lol.)
-The Tales of series
-Fire Emblem
-Final Fantasy (I'm still playing only one game XD)
-Super Smash Bros Ultimate
-Undertale
-Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 & 2
-Grimm's Hollow
-Nier: Automata
~Anime/Ghibli (These are ones that I'm most familiar with if I do an rp based off of them, or in the world they take place in)~
-Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
-Sailor Moon
-The entire Dragon Ball franchise
-Inuyasha
-MHA/BNHA

MDSOA: Soft Touches
Fandom: Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons (MDSOA) Characters: Kimiko + Shinji Rating: PG-13 Genre: Cute fluff / Sensual moment Summary: Frustration, nothing is going right. Settling down for a night playing games but things never go quite how you plan. But not in a bad way.
Shinji/MDSOA Owned by @aeondreamstudios
Kimiko walked directly through the lounge room, having already taken off her shoes at the door. She paused to unbutton the jeans and shimmied them down her hips before letting the fabric slip the rest of the way down to the floor. Stepping out of the pants before bending down to pick them up. She walked the rest of the way into her bedroom and she slipped out of her shirt before dropping her clothes into her clothes basket.
Stretching her arms over her head before doing a few stretches in an attempt to loosen the tension that she knew had built up in her muscles before disappearing into the bathroom. The sound of water hitting against tile filled the silence while the steam filled the small bathroom and she stepped inside.
Memories flitted behind closed eyelids.
It wasn’t uncommon. When something bothered her, her mind had a tendency to replay it on repeat until it almost drove her insane. Thinking about what she could have done differently. Sighing softly as hot water drummed against her back as she pressed her forehead against the cool tiles, letting the heat draw some of the tension out of her body and the sound to drown out her thoughts.
After the shower she padded to her draws she rifled through one before pulling out a too large white t-shirt. Pulling it over her head the shirt reached almost to her knees. The fabric was soft, well worn and well washed.
It was a shame it no longer housed the scent of its prior owner.
Kimi worked the damp pale blue strands free of its braid, letting the wavy strands fall loosely around her shoulders in a wild cascade. Water dripped onto the white shirt but she paid it little mind. Instead, she massaged her scalp absently in response to having pulled a little too hard in her attempts to release her hair, as her attention wandered slightly over what had happened in class.
It had been disappointing...
She’d messed up in class. Again.
Kimiko sighed softly, shaking her head as she collected a small case and a soft velvety sapphire blue blanket before heading back out into the large room that served as her living area. Curling the blanket around her form as she settled on the floor on her stomach with one of the pillows from her couch to soften the position for her elbows. Humming softly, she unwrapped a lollipop she popped it into her mouth as she pulled the PSP from its case.
The light turned green as it loaded, the intro for Fire Emblem playing in vivid colour as it introduction played before she clicked into her saved file. Time slipped away and there was no time for idle thoughts and regrets when you were strategizing on how to beat each enemy without losing any of your characters.
She clucked her tongue softly as the enemy destroyed one of her key players.
Turning off the button on the side she restarted the game and sighed softly, resting her chin on her arm as she waited for it to finish playing the introduction again. Candy wrappers were scattered around her. Her legs swung idly back and forth in the air as she finally noticed how dark it had gotten in the room, it must be sunset at least because long shadows filled the room.
Kimi stared silently at the lamp, silently willing it to turn on so she wouldn’t have to move. Not that magic really worked that way. It wasn’t nearly so simple. But she really didn’t feel like moving from her spot to close the curtains and turn on the lights. Really, she should start thinking about making dinner.
Candy was not an adequate substitute for a meal.
She was mid-thought when the click of the lock caught her attention. Only a few people had a key. None of which had mentioned that they were coming to visit this evening. Had they? Her phone was still in her bedroom. So they could have sent her a message or tried to call while she was playing...
Still, it was then that the door opened startling her into a sitting position, the blanket falling around her waist as the amethyst eyes shifted towards the direction of her front door just as Shinji walked into the room.
He flicked the light switch on, bathing the room with light and Kimi half hissed as she shaded her eyes from the sudden light. Causing him to chuckle in amusement which just caused her to pout in response before untangling herself from the depths of the blanket. She stood up, her gaze momentarily trailing over him from the top of his beautiful head to his toes, which led her to believe that he'd come to see her after finishing a shift at Veritas. Both because of the uniform and because he looked very tired.
Her gaze softened. He worked far too hard between going to university and his job. He didn’t sleep nearly enough. She knew that he napped more than he slept through the night which she assumed was due to insomnia.
Kimiko walked over to him, once more reminded that her boyfriend was stupid tall. It wasn’t her fault he was six inches taller than she was. Making it extremely difficult to kiss him when he wasn’t playing nice. She met his gaze which was filled with amusement fueled by her own annoyance.
Huffing quietly she reached up, fingers curling into the fabric of his white dress-shirt. Digits inching over firm muscles that the shirt didn’t do justice - because he was toned, taut and terrific everywhere. He had abs and beautiful muscles as far as the eye could see. When he wasn’t wearing so many layers. Something that was a rare sight for those not dating the beautiful man.
She hummed quietly, as she worked her way onto her tiptoes, her hands clutching at him as they settled onto his back. Managing to drag him downwards and give herself enough leverage to get to his lips. Of course, it was around that point that Shinji’s arms wound their way around her waist and tugged her closer causing her to hum softly in contentment.
Still, it was just a chaste kiss - a gentle brush of lips before she nipped playfully at his bottom lip before she settled back onto her feet once more.
“Weren’t expecting me?” Shinji queried, finally breaking the silence as he lowered his head. Resting his forehead against hers. Soft red-tipped strands tickled her forehead and cheek, but she voiced no complaint, merely nestling closer enjoying the affectionate contact.
“Mm...no, sorry I didn’t hear the phone,” Kimiko said feeling a little guilty as she brushed her nose lightly against his as she cupped his cheek. Smiling as he closed his eyes and leaned further into her embrace and touch. “Bad day?”
"Could have been worse?"
Kimmiko hummed a soft sound of sympathy knowing that meant it was a fairly bad day. It took a fair bit to bother Shinji, but customer service definitely had its own array of problems. Honestly, she didn't know how he handled it.
"You're wearing my shirt?" He asked startling her.
"Wha...oh, yes, it's comforting." She said ignoring the way her cheeks heated up and she was glad he didn’t know just how frequently she wore his shirt after a hard day. It would be kind of embarrassing if he did realise something like that.
Maybe she could hijack a new one though. One that still smelled of him.
Like the wind...old books, and a hint of smoke.
Apparently, they’d both had a bad day. It was quite obvious to her, that meant that they both deserved some cuddles. Kimiko reached up, undoing the tie with deft movements and she tossed it away before turning towards the buttons. She was halfway down the shirt when his hands settled on her wrists.
She glanced up at him, "Take it off..."
Shinji quirked an eyebrow at her obviously puzzled at her sudden somewhat aggressive actions though he released her wrists again. Allowing her to continue working on her apparent mission to undress him. He wasn’t complaining but he was slightly baffled at what she was up to.
"We are going to cuddle and I think it's unfair if you're completely dressed,” she said as she undid the last button. She could all but picture the expression that he'd give her - the raised eyebrow with that amused smile.
"Wouldn't my pants-"
“Oh no, those pants are staying on mister. You are too dangerous without pants!” She interjected suddenly cutting him off. Her boyfriend was very passionate and teasing. If anything he was almost too much for her to handle. Not that she would trade him for anything in the universe.
She glanced upwards catching him shrugging the shirt off his broad shoulders. Effectively derailing her current train of thought. Without a second thought, she smoothed her palms across his chest only to jump as his own fingers smoothed up along her bare thigh before dipping beneath the white t-shirt.
Her lips parted in a soft gasp as he traced along her outer thigh before fingers settled against her hip, flat against her skin. The hand slid across her stomach still beneath the fabric of the shirt. It wasn't a sexual touch. He just enjoyed the sensation of skin on skin - of touching.
Just like she did.
"S-shinji..."
He hummed quietly and pressed soft kisses across her neck as the hand smoothed across to settle on her other hip. Shinji gently pulled her closer to him and her fingers once more dug into his shoulders. A soft little gasp escaping her lips as he continued to press kisses over her neck, trailing down the shoulder that was bared now by his too large shirt. A good look on her.
"Ah...s-stop..." she whined quietly.
Finally, he complied with the request, merely chuckling at her attempt to level a glare in his direction. It wasn’t very threatening all things considered.
Grumbling under her breath Kimiko grabbed his hand and tugged him along with her towards the couch. After he laid down at her nudging, she then crawled on top of him, settling her head on his chest. Enjoying the warm skin against her cheek and the body beneath hers.
He sighed, content with the change of position. His arms wound around her. One hand slipping beneath the fabric of her shirt to settle on the small of her back where it absently traced patterns across her skin.
The gentle thud of his heart was calming, soothing.
Her own soon matching his and she sleepily nuzzled her face against his chest. The familiar scent wrapping around her and soothing her further. She murmured sleepily against his collarbone, “I love you.”
"I love you too," he whispered as he pressed a kiss behind her ear.
She smiled.

An Interview with Mr. Toshiyuki Toyonaga about Fire Emblem (Claude‘s Japanese VA), Pg. 5

Creating Claude’s Image From The Games Leading Up To Three Houses
After you accepted the offer, what kind of character did you imagine your role to be?
Toyonaga Before recording, I was shown script and character information, rough sketches, the other characters, the casting decisions, and other documents. The character that I was going to play was Claude von Riegan, head of the Golden Deer class. He was one of three class heads, meaning his main role was as a leader. From there, I imagined myself playing an FE game while reading the script, and thought that this seems like the type of game that will have you choose from one of the three class leaders.
So that was the result of your analysis through the lens of an FE fan?
Toyonaga Yes, it was the result of my analysis. Laughs. I knew that he’d become a chosen one. My first impression of the academy phase was that Dimitri is a knight, has the airs of a prince, and fills the role of a righteous ruler,* Edelgard is the lone woman of the group, and very refined, and Claude is the most aloof of the three. They aren’t a perfect triangle, but I thought it was characteristic of FE.
They’re three rivals, aren’t they.
Toyonaga In their initial battles, I thought Claude seemed like the life of the party, and the most easy-going one. But as the latter part of the academy phase developed, and his true motives and intentions became clear, he didn’t seem like that much of an easy-going character… so I thought it was best to strike a balance between his aloofness and the feeling that you don’t know what he is thinking.
That is a very good balance… But then five years passes, and the situation changes.
Toyonaga About the time skip. As I was reading the script, I thought, ‘It’s getting dark! This is Fire Emblem!’ Laughs. The first time the game pulled at my heartstrings was at the beginning of part two, when all of the classmates reunite in Chapter 13. As each turn passed and everyone appeared one-by-one… That scene was so difficult to perform. Because I’ve played previous games in the series, I was able to picture it just by reading the script.
Did you imagine them joining the battle from off-screen...!? Laughs.

Toyonaga Yes, I did! Because of that, it was easy to imagine the scene and perform it. The only thing I worried about was how much Claude had changed in five years since the Academy Phase. In the end, I accepted that his impression had changed a lot in many ways, but to be honest, I also feel that he didn’t change. I don’t think that I changed much in the five years between my late teens and early twenties, either.
Many don’t.
Toyonaga But, because of both Lady Rhea’s and his teacher’s difficult situations, when you think of the war that ravaged all of Fodlan for five years, he probably had to fight a lot of difficult battles.
He also had a responsibility to bear as a leader of the Leicester Alliance.
Toyonaga Yes. I thought that I needed to define his identity more. During the Academy Phase, he was sneaking around to investigate the Church of Seiros and Garreg Mach, but I questioned if he should be hiding so much. I decided to give off the sense that he had changed himself to have a secret life for a duty of his, and then implied that he revealed himself a bit during the five year skip.
We think your performance was full of expertly executed adjustments. And for long-time fans, who have a clear image of what FE characters are like, you were able to define Claude as a character who fits that image.
Toyonaga I agree. As someone who was granted an opportunity to be a voice actor for FE, the one thing I wanted to portray to those who like the series is the sense that the game isn’t a performance, but a realistic battlefield. FE is of course fiction, but at its core, I wanted the game to feel like the events really happened in history, and the characters were real people.
Creating a Realistic Sense of War and the Complexities of the Tension During the Five Year Gap
The Similarities and Differences Between Claude and Toyōdo
In what ways do you think you are similar to Claude, and in what ways do you think you are different?
Toyonaga I think we’re very similar in that we can both connect to others without any sense of favoritism or discrimation, and in his “ideal” that he expresses after fighting against Dimitri and Edelgard for five years: “To broaden Fodlan’s views, which currently knows nothing of the other nations, so anyone can freely travel to between each land without descriminaition, and obtain the true meaning of freedom.” Compared to Dimitri and Edelgard’s senses of duty, Claude’s feelings were able to resonate the best with me. When I first read them, I thought, “I think so too!”
The line where he says that he wants to break the barrier between Fodlan and the other nations really seems so full of emotion, doesn’t it?
Toyonaga The only difference is that he likes parties, and he always wants to throw a party for any little reason. I really like staying at home, so I was always thinking... ‘You don’t have to party that much…’ Laughs.
He does say he wants to party a lot.
Toyonaga He does. I’m the type of person who wants to go home right away. So that’s where we’re different. Laughs.

(above) As Claude grew between the ages of 17 to 23, he earned the nickname “The Master Tactician.”** Mr. Toyonaga, who prefers strategy games over action games, likely resonated with Claude over this fact as well.
*T/N: The Japanese used here is “Oudou,” which you can find my detailed definition and explanation of here.
**T/N: Fun fact: a very literal translation of this nickname of Claude’s in the Japanese is “The Fierce Tabletop God.”

Rules for the Summer Scramble

OUT OF CHARACTER:
Use the Tag for Event Posts
** #sea sky and sun ;; summer scramble
Participants
** All canon and original Fire Emblem characters, or any character with a Fire Emblem verse is welcome to participate!
** This is an FE RP event for the current FE RP community, so it needs to be a dedicated FE and RP blog in some way. Sideblogs for roleplay and multimuse blogs with qualifying characters/verses are OK. Personals are not.
Leave Selectivity Behind for Awhile
** The point of this event is for everyone to have fun together, and to make some new connections with new partners. While this is still ultimately a hobby, and we cannot force interactions, how well the event does in accomplishing its goal or not will greatly effect whether further ones are held.
** Even if you are a private or mutuals-only blog, we wholeheartedly ask, just for the week, if you are participating in the event that you be open to interactions with any and all other participants, and that you do your best to check in on the event tag to reach out to some yourself, especially our vendors and OCs, or anyone who you see hasn’t gotten a response to something. Everyone wants to feel included, don’t leave anyone sitting alone in the wading pool.
** If you post a meme or a starter, you are considered open to being approached by any other event-goers. If you start feeling overwhelmed, please prioritize those who are reaching out to you for the first time; there’s the rest of the summer to answer or continue festivities with usual friends.
** Obviously, not everyone gets along with everyone else. We’re not saying people have to reconcile falling outs, or talk to everybody, or ignore your squad. Just try to engage in a little something with a few new people over the course of the week, so everyone’s included by someone. And of course, we will be here to help you as mods if issues come up between people or get uncomfortable.
Be respectful
** As always, we’d like to keep things drama-free. Don’t attack or harass others for any reason. Don’t send anon hate. Don’t vague about other participants. Respect the rules of the event, general roleplay courtesies, and people’s blogs. Play nice in the sandbox, guys, I know you know how.
** Again, if there are any issues, please bring it to the moderator’s attentions and we will help you address it.
Keep the tag PG-13.
** We understand vacations often mean having a good time, and are happy to inspire some meeting opportunities and ideas for your characters… but please move more personal activities out of the tag.
** Be sure to still tag appropriately otherwise, and perhaps come up with a different personal tag for those who still wish to block event related posts. AT LEAST tag it nsfw.
** Implications and innuendo are OK. So are curse words, just don’t use them excessively. We may revoke this exception if there are complaints.
Activity
** You don’t have to participate every day! Come and go as you are available and please.
** Any events that don’t depend on moderator response can be continued into the next day or as long as you like, even beyond the end of the week. You can also join in late or on whatever day works for you.
Askbox
** While some announcements are IC posts, The mod askbox is for ooc questions, submissions, and concerns only, unless otherwise specified by an event. Feel free to poke us for any kind of clarification.
** We are most certainly participating, though, and IC asks are welcome to be sent to our character blogs! Don’t be afraid to approach, we need to lead by example and meet some new people too! We’re not exactly hiding behind pseudonyms…:
– Mod Reflet - M!Robin - @fellbranded – Mod Lasnigolow - Inigo/Laslow - @armsthriift – Mod Robin - F!Robin - @invisibleimpossibilities
**IC posts will be made here for updates and minimal commentary, but most participation will take place on our personal character blogs.
IN CHARACTER:
Please be respectful of each other and the grounds!
** Anna worked hard to reserve this spot for us, let’s not ruin any chance to come back!
Pets and loyal steeds are allowed!
** Just make sure to keep them tame and clean up after them.
Alcohol is allowed on the grounds, but the bar will not serve those under 18.
** Any unattended drinks will be filled with sand.

Haven’t Done One of These in About a Year Let’s See How it Goes...
So while I’ve been away in college I’ve been on a secret mission in an underground laboratory with the Metalborgs, known across the world as over-zealous, justice-obsessed maniacs who would always use their full force, even when, and I quote, “hunting small fry” and clearly valued power above all else.
But now I’ve found a way to reform the Metalborgs into the Kind Borgs. Robots that are considerate of people and the environment.
With these new Friends at my side, I set out for a large gathering of fellow nerds with one objective in mind, “convert everyone to the side of justice.” The side objective was to brutally murder anyone who was not in line with these ideals, but let’s not talk about that...
So anyway, the mission was simple enough: Win 5/7 Games of Cardfight Vanguard in order to make enough friends to be allowed to make it to Day #2, where I could make more friends and get to the Top 8/16/whatever. Sounds easy, right? Well let’s see how the Kind Borgs held up against the very mean-spirited forces that live in New Jersey:
But first, a word on Metalborgs (since not only is the deck old as fuck and nowhere near tier 1/1.5, but I’m not exactly running a standard strategy either):
Metalborgs rely on an outdated gimmick, “Guard Restrict.” Their bosses make it so the enemy can’t guard with G1 or higher cards from their hand when said bosses attack (so basically, no PGs, but guarding with triggers, intercepts, and special cases like guarding from soul/deck are still allowed). This sounds cool and possibly menacing when combined with Commander Laurel and a crit trigger or two, but keep in mind that these days the better G-Guards let players no-pass 30K columns for 1CB. G-Guards are also unaffected by the Guard Restrict (since they technically come out of the Extra Deck).
So what I’ve done is make a rush deck that can sit on G2 against the meta (every meta deck sans Blasters was GB reliant to a fault at the time of writing this), but also can reach the late game against less threatening opponents (Even though the opponent can G-Guard, they can only do it 4 times max in a game. So theoretically if I can punch through all 4 I can win pretty easily after that).
Anyway, I’ll post the decklist first with brief explanations of cards in case you care:
Starter: Metalborg, Locobattler (into soul -> +6K to VG if in legion, +3K otherwise).
Triggers: 5X Crit (4 of which have the same effect as the starter). 7X Draw 4X Heal
G1: 16: 4X Commander Laurel (if VG hits rest 4 RGs to restand VG) 4X Metalborg, X-Blaise (10K attacker) 4X Dimensional Robo, Daishield (Old PG (the kind that can guard RGs). Some of my RGs need protection and I don’t use CB that much.) 2X Metalborg, Death Blade (SB1 -> +5K to VG). 2X Cosmic Hero, Grand Police (Vanilla 8K).
G2: 13: 4X Metalborg, Ur Buster (Legion Mate to main boss, RG Skill: on-legion -> +4K to VG + “When VG attack hits a VG, kill 1 RG.” The effect stacks if I have multiple Ur Busters on the field.) 3X Metalborg, Diggerion (Vanilla 10K) 3X Metalborg, Lionetter (12K attacker) 3X Metalborg, Blacking Barrow (Is an 11K body permanently if my VG is in legion. CB1 + Move into Soul -> When Legion VG attacks, give +11K to VG). The G1+G2 lineup is the way it is for early aggression. Triggers are to maintain survive-ability and help draw into Laurel/PGs/the G3s.
G3: 4: 4X Metalborg, Sin Buster (Legion: If it’s power is >= 20K (after boost) and attack hits a VG, draw 1. It it’s in Legion and it’s power is >= 30K (after boost), opponent can’t guard with G1s or higher from hand. He’s the win condition/finishing blow, obviously. The G2 rush is to force the opponent to drop all their triggers to guard.)
Strides: 2X Hyper Metalborg, Guilt Digger (No I’m not making that name up. Effect = “Persona Flip -> search your deck for up to one card that legions with your heart and perform legion in your heart. Then draw 1.“ Saves me the trouble of wasting a turn legion-ing if I don’t want to).
4X Hyper Metalborg, Heavy Duke (CB2 -> On-Attack, pay the cost. Opponent can’t guard with G1s or higher from hand. If the attack hits, draw 1 (draw 2 if heart is in legion).).
2X Super Cosmic Hero, X-tiger (+4K for each face-up card in G-Zone. Gains a crit if power >= 45K).
G Guards: I run more than 4 G-Guards because Metalborgs have no good strides and the entire point of the deck is invalidating the opponent’s PGs so the regular D-Police strides aren’t worth running. 4X Enigman Patriot (+5K if opponent’s attack is >= 20K) 2X Super Cosmic Hero, X-carivou (+10K if opponent’s attack is >= 30K) 2X Dizmel
ROUND 1: Kind Borgs Vs. Fanservice Mermaids (Bermuda Triangle: Harmony):
Opponent was a kind/polite yet slightly disinterested girl (I chalked it up to either being dragged along by her SO or being tired from a potentially long car ride (some people drive like 5+ hours to come to these things on the day of the competition)). She had no idea about the overwhelming power of friendship and love that the Metalborgs had in store for her, so she guarded early.
Needless to say when I explained how Sin Buster worked she knew she was toast. GG.
WIN! Record: 1-0
ROUND 2: Kind Borgs Vs. Dino DNA (Tachikaze: Dogma):
Opponent was a jovial fat man. Very loudly proclaimed his moves for all to hear. I might sound like I was annoyed by this, but I found it hilarious. I rushed the shit out of him by giving him all of the justice he could handle, pushing him to 5 by turn 3. He responded by denouncing my kindness by striding and triple driving 3 Heal Triggers. Of course. My death was long and agonizing after that point. Dogma is strong when you’re actually able to live long enough to use it.
LOSE! Record: 1-1
ROUND 3: Kind Borgs Vs. Nova Grappler (Victor):
This opponent, along with the girl I played Round 1, were the only “normal” people I played all day. The guy decided to have a G2 duel with me. Little did he know I was slowly but surely sniping his G2s and taking the triggers out of his hand. I was eating a lot of pain too though, since he knew enough to dive on my RGs constantly. Eventually, I was backed into enough of a corner that I had to ride to G3 and Stride. I explained what Hyper Metalborg, Heavy Duke (read effect above) did to him at least 4 times, and he clearly read the card, but he didn’t understand that, on my second attack, he was allowed to guard with whatever he wanted (since I couldn’t pay CB2 a second time). So he ended up dead with 9 cards still in his hand. Serves the guy right for casually disregarding my deck I guess.
WIN! Record: 2-1
ROUND 4: Kind Borgs Vs. DINO DNA 2: Electric Boogaloo (Tachikaze: Dogma):
Opponent was 100% neckbeard. Probably left his fedora at home. The Kind Borgs began to become frustrated that they had yet to face a meta deck so far today (i.e. Blasters, Luard, Gears, Messiahs, etc.). So frustrated in fact, that they decided to be decidedly unkind, giving me a trigger-heavy hand and damage check two of my G3s in a row on turn 2.
My opponent was able to capitalize on my being grade stuck by throwing his whole hand down on turn 3 and murdering me. Ow...
LOSE! Record: 2-2
ROUND 5: Kind Borgs Vs. Murakumo (No clue what this deck was supposed to be, honestly):
Well shit, there were still 3 round to go and I couldn’t afford to lose a single one... Hopefully love and justice won’t die just yet...
Opponent was another jovial fat man who wouldn’t stop talking about Sailor Moon with the girls that were playing in the game next to ours. Slightly unsettling behavior but whatever, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was just getting his weeb on. I have no idea what his Murakumo deck was supposed to do, but the basic strategy revolved around effects that went off if I guarded his attacks.
How do I beat a deck that does things if I guard? Humm... Well, I no-guarded his attacks, got to 4 damage, and used Heavy Duke to murder his face (like my round 1 opponent, he early guarded, clearly not being acquainted with the power of justice). Justice Prevails.
Win! Record: 3-2
ROUND 6: Kind Borgs Vs. Luard:
2 rounds to go... Come on cards I blew money on a two-night hotel stay don’t let me down yet...
Opponent was a overly extroverted girl who piloted the deck as if it was borrowed. She was friendly though, if not uncomfortably so...
This is honestly the only game where I made an actual mistake/misplay all day (guess it was late). After getting pushed to 5 by nothing but enemy crit triggers (she called no RGs for the entire early game), I noticed that:
A: She was at 4, since my rush had been going pretty well. B: Out of the 6 cards in her hand, I knew 5 (Crit, Crit, Abyssal Owl, PG, Macha, Mystery Card). C: She’d damage checked a heal and a crit already, so there were only 3 heals and 9 crits not yet revealed. D: If I went all-in and G-Assisted out a Sin Buster, I had the resources to pump it to 37K, so the absolute best she’d be able to guard for would be 31K as long as the last mystery card wasn’t a heal trigger (if it was another crit it’d be a 41K guard, a 1-to-pass).
So, thinking the odds were decently in my favor (and since I couldn’t ride another G2 over my current Vanguard to prevent myself from being Sea-Breezed), I went all-in, betting basically the entire tournament on my opponent not having a heal/crit in hand.
Let me just say that this was a mistake not because of the gambling aspect. It’s because historically I personally have absolutely terrible luck in RNG scenarios like this. 85% chance to hit in Fire Emblem? Miss; 6 triggers in an 8 card deck? Twin Drive -> G3, G3; Etc.
So I went all-in but her mystery card was a conveniently placed G-Guard. At that moment I realized I was dead. Spectral Diablo was happy to introduce my face to the pavement.
LOSE! Record 3-3!
MISSION FAILURE! UNACCEPTABLE LOSS COUNT!
And so ends another episode in the saga of me playing card games. Reviewing my notes from previous years attendance was decently down this year:
Reference (I missed singles regionals in Fall 2016 because I was too busy with school):
2015 Singles: At least 498 Players (I was badge #498 and we got to the event pretty close to the end of registration) 2016 Teams: At least 210 Teams (I was on team #210. Again my team was basically the last one to sign up. We get to these things a bit last-minute...). 210 Teams X 3 Players/Team = 630 Players. A bit unreliable since people always drag along their SOs to fill slots of teams.
2017 Singles: We got there with 5 minutes before registration closed. I was player #451.
So a slight downturn in attendance from 2 years ago but nothing suggesting the game is dying. Luck and Logic, a dead game, had a whopping 16 players competing, for comparison.
@dragonstoneplus had a much better go of things than I, she made it to Round 7 before losing her 3rd game.
Some random kid from our shop who plays Novas (Victor) cleared Day 1. He’s probably wrapping up his performance as I write this. I wonder if he actually managed to top... (He’s pretty good, but can’t really put up a fight against my teammates and I when we’re actually trying)

Past Present Essay
I decided to write my past present essay in the style of a blog post as I felt that I could include outside information and sources in an easy and very creative way. My essay also feels very personal and the style feels incredibly narrative.
From Samuel Richardson's Clarissa to Thomas Otway's Belvidera, women in 18th century literature were objects of commodification. Though deeply complex characters, these women were simply seen as catalysts for the masculine characters in the work in which they appear. Over time, this has changed. Women have gone from being objects of commodification to politicians themselves. Throughout all fields within fiction, from video games to comic books, women have become more heavily involved in the political climate in which they appear. In comparing political drama-based-fiction set in the present to political-drama-based-fiction set in the 18th century, it's evident that the role of women has changed heavily.
At the beginning of Richardson's Clarissa, Clarissa is forced into an arranged marriage. Her best friend, Anna Howe, disagrees with her situation wholeheartedly, believing it to be unfair. Though Anna is from a different social class and cannot understand Clarissa's social class and situation as much as Clarissa can, it is Anna's firm belief that Clarissa is simply a means of her family advancing politically. The Harlowe family is in a unique situation. Clarissa is a young lady of great renown. She is beautiful, intelligent, and the target of a great many men's affections. However, her suitor, Solmes, is a horribly dull and *odious* man. One of Clarissa's main outlets is her writing and Solmes lacks the ability to correspond with her. Not only are his grammatical errors present, but his own personality seems to reflect his writing. Solmes cannot communicate and his concerned only with his wealth and political advancement, a commonality in the 18th century.
It's true that politically-charged women in the 18th century were simply written-off as being commodified objects. On page 62 of Clarissa, in her correspondence to her best friend, Anna Howe writes "You are all too rich to be happy, child, For must not each of you, by the constitutions of your family, marry to be still richer (pg 62)?" Anna points out that Clarissa's family cares far too much about their reputation and not enough about their daughter. Anna believes that wealth is primarily what fuels the upper-class and that Clarissa's family cares very little about her own happiness. Later in the novel, she goes on to say “If these men plead authority to our pain, when are theirs -- why should we not, in such a case as this, make some good out of the hated word, for our reputation, when are induced to violate a more natural one (pg 220)”? Anna goes from believing in Clarissa's happiness to accepting that she will not be happy, even running away with Lovelace like she does. Anna's cynicism showcases women's hopelessness in the 18th century and the fact that women are presented as being simple political catalyst's for the advancement of men.
The political role of Clarissa is to advance her family socially, politically, and for the purpose of obtaining wealth. Her true role in the work she appears in allowed me to compare her marriage and advancement to one of the main protagonists in a video game I've come to admire heavily. In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, a tactical RPG with a great deal of text-based storytelling, Edelgard von Hresvelg represents the political house in which she comes from as well as her father's empire. Edelgard is a more modern politically-charged woman, as her character is not simply amounted to being a catalyst to men's political advancement. Instead, she's forced to advance politically for the sake of the Empire she represents. Although she is initially masked and seen as a male (through appearing as the flame emperor), her identity is discovered and she's proud of her own identity and ideologies. I've compared Edelgard to Clarissa because she's well-read, intelligent, and comes from a family of great renown. However, instead of simply marrying into another wealthy family, her choices to defend her Empire and take down an arguably corrupt religion-based-regime are her own. Depending on the route you take in the game, she is successful in her efforts. Edelgard advances the Empire politically with her own resources and ability. Edelgard represents a modern female politician who does not have to rely on men to get what she wants and is proud of her own political beliefs. In writing Edelgard, Yuki Ikeno, Ryohei Hayashi, and Mari Okamoto showcase how women in political drama have gone from being commodified objects of men's desire to their own, powerful political leaders.
Samuel Richardson wrote his version of a twisted fairytale, painting Clarissa as a damsel-in-distress type protagonist. Going from this narrative to another tragic narrative, Thomas Otway's Venice Preserv'd is another iconic piece of 18th century literature. Venice Preserv'd focuses much more on the political aspect of things and Otway's main female protagonist, Belvidera, suffers at the hands of the political environment she is a part of. However, unlike Richardson's Clarissa, this is not her downfall. Instead, during this time of political drama in which Belvidera finds herself the center of a plot she never intended to be a part of, she showcases what makes her strong. She's a much better representation of a strong woman as speaking her mind is not her downfall. Belvidera proves to be cunning, wise, well-spoken and well-read. She has a manipulative streak about her. Belvidera is able to convince Jaffier to listen to her and understand her views. It is true that Belvidera is commodified and seems to be a catalyst for the men in the play. However, Otway's Venice Preserv'd came at a later point than Richardson's Clarissa. As such, Belvidera is a more modern portrayal of a woman in politics. Belvidera is not quite the protagonist woman desire, but for the 18th century, as a commodified woman, she is a strong character leading way for women in politics.
I think a brilliant counter to Otway's Belvidera is Russell T. Davies' Harriet Jones from Doctor Who. Although Harriet Jones' situation is confusing and tragic at the hands of the aliens surrounding her, Jones' makes a name for herself. Her approach is unapproved by the later Tenth Doctor, but in the end, she sacrifices herself for the good of her country. In Harriet Jones' final appearance in Doctor Who, she has a conversation with four characters significant to. the Doctor's life. Ianto Jones, a Torchwood representative argues that if the Subwave Signal is transmitted, then the Daleks will be able to transmit it. Harriet Jones final message is that of true sacrifice and she goes out with a bang, much like Belvidera's character. She says "My life doesn't matter. Not if saves the Earth,..." and goes on to say "There are people out there dying on the streets." Harriet Jones character has gone full circle -- although her political career is over at the hands of men, her last appearance is sacrificial, showing that she had her country's best interest at heart. Like Belvidera, Harriet Jones is a well-written, intelligent character who eventually bests the men around her even if she is commodified in the process and is an exceptional example of a modern female politician in a representation of political drama.
I’ve never considered myself to be a pursuer of political drama. To me, it feels like something I could tune into any news station and be exposed to. While I feel that it’s important for young people to be exposed to politics and for us to develop our own ideologies, when I reach for a book, film, or other piece of fiction (particularly video games and television [which I addressed within]), I want to be able to escape. Through exposure to pieces in my 18th century British literature course, I’ve grown to appreciate political drama and politics in general, particularly the role of women in political drama. Ultimately, I’ve discovered that since the 18th century, women in political drama have gone from being an object of commodification to to pursuers of politics themselves.
