“It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve gotten you alone.”

There’s no bite to Michelle’s words as she speaks, but Carlos immediately picks up on the insinuation that she’s lying down: that Carlos is a little too caught up in the whirlwind that is TK Strand for him to make time for their weekly tradition of drinks and street tacos at their favourite place downtown. He’s missed the last three or four chances they had to hang out, due to picking up shifts or getting wrapped up in his — what, friend? boyfriend? guy-that-he’s-exclusively-seeing-but-has-no-label-for is too wordy, but it’s really the only thing that makes sense when trying to describe what he has with TK.

“Sorry,” Carlos says, because he is. Michelle’s been there for him through thick and thin ever since he was barely out of high school and he started hanging out with her as much as he hung out with Iris. But she waves him off immediately.

“No need to apologize, I know that boy of yours, you should feel no shame for getting as much time in with him as you can,” Michelle offers him a wink, but when he just sort of sighs and sinks down into his chair, she cocks her head to the side. “Is everything okay with you two?”

Carlos could offer her the same response he’s been giving his sister, who’s wanted to meet his so-called mystery guy for almost a month, now. She’d noticed his change of tone whenever he spoke about his and TK’s relationships, and Carlos had quickly chalked it up to him being tired after a long day. Which was true — but he could just sense that something was up with TK, and it wasn’t something he was ready to get into with his sister. But Michelle’s different; she might actually know if something’s up with the 126 that could be attributed to TK’s slow but steady act of pulling away from him.

“Actually, uh, he’s been kind of distant, lately,” Carlos says, trying to keep it casual, but Michelle’s eyebrows furrow almost immediately.

“For how long?” Michelle asks, bringing her beer to her lips and taking a sip.

Carlos sighs. “Two weeks. I thought maybe something was going on at work?”

Michelle presses her lips together, but the corners of her mouth still turn down in a frown as she shakes her head. “I mean, he seems normal at the station. The whole team does.”

They’re quiet for a few moments, as Michelle taps her fingers against the neck of her bottle.

“How is he being distant?” Michelle finally asks, and Carlos shrugs, squinting as he looks off into the distance, the setting sun just low enough to be in his line of vision.

“We still go on dates and stuff, but he doesn’t really talk to me like he did before. He always seems like he’s lying when I ask him if he’s okay,” Carlos shrugs, taking a breath before speaking the words out loud, finally voicing the fear that’s been brewing in his chest. “I think he might want to break up with me.”

“Are you serious?” Michelle looks at him with wide eyes, and Carlos slowly nods.

“I mean, what else could it be? We gave us a shot for real two months ago, maybe he doesn’t like how it’s turning out,” Carlos rubs at the back of his neck.

“I’ll talk to him,” Michelle says, eyes suddenly a little darker as her protective side starts coming out. Carlos quickly reaches across the table and takes her hands in his.

“God, no way, Michelle, I don’t want you to scare him off,” Carlos insists, rubbing a thumb along the inside of her wrist to calm her, a little. “I think I should just ask him tomorrow. Be straight up about everything.”

He makes the decision without really thinking it through. Maybe he’s the one that’s freaking out too much — TK could just be exhausted, or dealing with his dad’s chemo appointments on top of having a strenuous job. But he knows what his ma would say, that he probably should’ve already talked with TK about this when he first started worrying. And the way it seems to settle Michelle’s willingness to go after TK herself is also a bonus.

“How’s your mom?” he asks, to shove the focus off of his issues for a little while. And it seems to work, Michelle only giving him one last wary glance before she talks about their plan to bring Iris a care package, Carlos quietly stewing in his own mind over what to do next.

Carlos knows that work isn’t the best place to do this. But he also knows just how distracted he’s been all day just thinking about all the possibilities of what TK’s struggling with, and if he doesn’t get his emotions off his chest he’s going to crash and burn. Besides, they’ve been called to an accident at a state fair — a malfunctioning ferris wheel, that hadn’t moved for half an hour with people stuck on the ride — and once the 126 rescued the ten stranded people, they were all milling around, waiting for the all-clear, and Carlos has been watching TK just chat with Marjan for the last ten minutes and he figures this is as good a time as any.

Marjan catches his eye before TK sees him, and she says something quickly to him as TK begins to turn around. He offers Carlos a small smile as he approaches and Marjan clears her throat.

“I’m just...not going to be here right now. Nice to see you, Carlos,” Marjan says as she slips away from them, going over to where Mateo’s checking on equipment. Carlos nods at her as she leaves, and TK steps a little closer.

“How’s your night going?” TK asks, and Carlos frowns a little at the way that TK has yet to really look him in the eye.

“This is going to sound stupid,” Carlos says, instead of actually answering the other man. “But are you trying to break up with me?”

After ten seconds of silence, TK barks out a laugh. But when he takes in Carlos’ worried look and his tense jaw, his eyebrows shoot up. “Wait, you’re serious?”

“Sorry, I’m just being an idiot, I—”

“Wait, Carlos,” TK says, curling his fingers around Carlos’ wrist. “Talk to me?”

“It’s just...you’ve been distant, over the past couple of weeks. And at first I thought you were just tired, or maybe wrapped up in your head, which I totally get. But I want to be there for you no matter what, and I feel like you couldn’t wait for me to get out of your hair on our past few dates.” Carlos explains, watching as TK runs a hand down his face. “So, do you want to break up with me? I just can’t keep doing this, Ty.”

“How could you ask me that?” TK’s brought his voice down to a whisper, and Carlos shakes his head.

“I’m just wondering where we stand, Ty,” Carlos says. “I really like you, but I don’t want you to feel forced into this relationship if you—”

“I don’t,” TK quickly interjects, stepping even more into Carlos’ space. “I don't feel forced into anything. You have to believe me, okay? I’ve never wanted anyone like I want you. And it still blows my mind that I get to have you in my life. Carlos— you’ve shown me what love can feel like. After all I’ve been through and all that I’ve put you through, you’ve stood by me, and I can’t even express to you how important you are to me.”

Carlos feels warmth spread through him, but he still doesn’t get the distance. He opens his mouth to speak, but before he can, TK presses on.

“I’ve been distant because I wanted,” TK stops for a second, inhaling shakily as he glances around, his eyes illuminated under the twinkling lights of the various rides and the signs advertising games and food. He meets Carlos’ gaze again and finally continues. “I wanted to ask you to be my boyfriend. Officially. But I didn’t know how to do it because you mean so much to me and I wanted to do this right, and I’ve been kind of stressing out about making things perfect and—”

“Hey, hey, TK,” Carlos says, bringing his hands up to frame TK’s face, practically feeling the other man’s mind going thousand miles a minute. “I think boyfriend has a nice ring to it.”

TK’s mouth quirks up in a lopsided smile. “Yeah?”

Carlos hums in agreement. “Yeah.”

“I’m sorry for making you worry,” TK says, “that’s the last thing I wanted to do.”

“Well, this is much better than all the other scenarios I was imagining,” Carlos jokes, but when he sees the flash of worry clouding up TK’s eyes, he presses a quick kiss to his boyfriend’s temple. “It’s okay, Ty. I swear.”

TK opens his mouth to speak, only for Judd’s voice to pipe up.

“Hey, loverboys! I won’t hesitate to use this hose on y’all,” Judd teases, as the others smirk all around them. “Come on, TK, we gotta go save some chickens from a barn fire.”

“Texas manages to surprise me every day,” TK mutters, meeting Carlos’ eyes one last time. “What are you doing later? I have to make things up to my boyfriend.”

TK waggles his eyebrows and Carlos snorts, leaning in quick to kiss him. “Come to my place when you’re done, I’m making you dinner.”

“You’re seriously the best,” TK says, as he turns to head toward the rig, where Marjan’s holding the door open for him.

“Be safe!” Carlos shouts out after him, and TK gives him one last smile and wave before he’s disappeared into the truck. As he retreats to his squad car, he shoots Michelle a quick text — things are all good, won’t need you threatening my boyfriend any time soon — before he heads off to the next call, unable to stop himself from smiling to himself over that label, one he hopes will stick for as long as humanly possible.

Ficlet: The breakfast that launched a thousand fics

Author’s Note: Those of you expecting something wonderful are going to be disappointed, as this is just a little drabble I wrote this morning (before breakfast) for the @phanfichallenge “Write Every Day for a Week.” I’m spending most of my writing energy today on “The Body Electric,” but I expect I won’t have the next chapter ready to post for another couple days.

The breakfast that launched a thousand fics

Sitting up in bed under the fluffy white duvet, Dan eyed his plate of french toast with considerable admiration. “I do appreciate an aesthetically pleasing breakfast presentation,” he commented to Phil.

Beside him in the bed, Phil contemplated his own plate, but his attention wasn’t on how pretty it looked. His sleepy morning brain was just saying, “Mmmm. Pancakes.”

“I’m going to Instagram my food like a total hipster,” Dan announced. Then added, “Or just, you know, like a total dork who gets off on pretty food. I should definitely follow more aesthetic food blogs.”

Half an hour later, Phil cuddled back under the duvet to doze a bit longer with a tummy full of fluffy American pancakes.

Glancing at his sleepy boyfriend, Dan picked up his phone, logged into Phil’s Instagram account, and posted the photo he’d taken of Phil’s plate. The world just really needed to be given the opportunity to appreciate such beauty.

Hazel eyes

Mousey brown hair forever cover his eyes, not everyone was aware of his deep hazel eyes (which you could just get lost in). A private person he was, yet there was always on person he could open up to. A older boy, not by much, with a dark ebony fringe, too simplar to his. This boy lead by example for the hazel eyed loner. The boy had friends, yet ebony fringe was the only one to know. He knew his friend would except him... what he was; was wrong. However ebony fringe treated him different to everyone else. Days moved onto years, this darkness which hazel eyes held became unknown. It was replace with laughter and a new found relationship between to two boys, who kept themselves quite. On one night more MSN message would change everything. He was moving, to Manchester the place where the hazel eyed boy study... what would he be like? This would be the first time Dan saw Phil without he having to go home again. He became even closer to Dan... But Dan had to tell him, he made jokes about it sometimes and hinted.. yet Phil doesn't realize how much Dan loves him. Dan would jump off a bridge to be with him...

Info on morphine

Found this on morphine side effects for research. I keep coming back to it because of Phanfiction. I am becoming more and more convinced that any diagnosis on Erik’s psyche would be almost impossible given the effects that morphine. Off it, he might be almost normal. Besides, we do not know for sure whether all of the things he claimed happened to him really did, or if it was his perception being warped. His memory may even be changed by this drug. It is truly some nasty stuff.

2017 phanfiction recommendation #13

Birthday Sex by @danfanciesphil​ Length: 233k Rating: E

Warning: this work contains explicit sex, unhealthy relationships and emotional abuse. Please read the tags and stay safe.

Ok, here we go. I am torn between recommending this fic or warning to stay away if you value your sanity. This story almost killed me, and I’m not even joking. I started it and a couple chapters in I realized that I might not make it to the end because it’s causing me too much emotion, but I’m in too deep. I have NEVER cried this much while reading something. Thank God it wasn’t a WIP when I read it, because getting to the end felt like running a marathon. In short, this fic is incredible.

The author is without a doubt insanely talented, as this novel sized story is rich in language, well paced and has a good balance between dialogue and descriptions. It also keeps you on edge the entire time. I couldn’t stop even to sleep when I read it.

It follows a very accurate and thoroughly researched canon timeline, but incorporates it into a story about a deeply unhealthy and abusive relationship, which tortures both the characters and the readers (and perhaps the author). It’s excruciatingly painful, but also addicting and engaging and beautiful. Again, like some of my previous recs, this fic is so appealing to me because it gives the reader the opportunity to go through all of this pain and have a happy ending, go from hating a character to forgiving him and feeling happy for his growth. It also allows you to feel extremely strong emotions, which shift from profound sadness to white hot anger to dizzying happiness all in one chapter. And while I do not believe that any relationship can survive this type of angst in real life, I immensely enjoy reading about it (although I am still struggling with using the word enjoy, I need to figure out a better word).

About Reposted Fics

So recently I was on Wattpad where I came across a profile who had posted a bunch of pretty good phanfics from tumblr and Ao3 without credits to the authors or permission so I thought I go on a little spree and find the authors and let them know their fics are copied elsewhere without their permission and some are even downright plagiarized word to word and some with credit to author but messed with because the reposter was not satisfied with the writer’s original version.

So here’s the list under the cut.

The sad thing is, so many authors from this list have left the phandom but have still left their work up under their old tumblr or an orphaned account on Ao3, so I don’t know why people would have to repost it. If you like it so much, simply compile a list and post it somewhere than copy it and repost it without credit or change it to your liking. And these have so many reads and comments, it saddens me that the original author doesn’t get these nice comments. So yeah report these fics if you guys can to take them down and support the original author.

Also another thing is- Usually reposted fics are posted under things like collection of Phan One-shots or Phan fluff or Phan smut. So if you find any alert the original author.

So yeah that’s it. I’m sorry if someone’s hurt that I called them out in this post but I’ve been hurt by reposting my work before and it’s not fair to the original writer.

Ooh this is a good game!

• obviously, dan and phil. they make me happier than words can ever explain. without them, i don't know where i would be.

• the sound/smell of rain. whenever i notice it's raining, a huge smile spreads across my face. it's my favorite weather.

• fanfiction, or specifically phanfiction! i read it every single day and fluffy ones make warmth travel through my veins. a lot of it is so so beautiful and i can honestly get lost in it. this fandom truly doesn't deserve the talent from incredible writers who share their art with us.

• coffee! it's probably an addiction, actually. i have to drink at least two cups a day, or else i'll get headaches. every issue can be solved with a conversation and coffee, i believe.

• i know the last one should probably be some heartfelt paragraph about something pure and wholesome, but all i can seem to think of is mario kart tour. so i suppose i'll say that. it just makes me happy. i used to play the original mario kart on the wii when I was younger, so it's sort of a blast from the past. i'm on level 50 and have so many characters/drivers/gliders. that game is like my baby, honestly. i spend so much of my time playing it. and although sometimes it can make me scream in frustration, it makes me happy.

i don’t just read phanfiction; i devour it. i have an addiction and i’m not even ashamed of it anymore because y'all are such good writers 💗

i don’t have any definite favourites, but i’d say my current favourite fic is piece by piece by @softgolftechniques (it’s so harrowing but that’s because it’s so well-written and so well-executed oh my god).

(also, three words: the sausage fic. please don’t judge me)

why do you think rpf is so predominant in the phandom? do you think it would have been as normalized if Dan hadn't given his approval for it years ago? sometimes I wonder how he & Phil actually feel about the fact that their most obsessed & ~dedicated followers are pretty much addicted to reading & publishing stories about them having all kinds of sex & falling in love with each other. it just seems so bizarre to me that so much of stan culture is based around objectifying the so-called idols

I’m gonna say here that DP probably hadn’t anticipated the fame and success they achieved later. They didn’t “think ahead” (because, well how could they see the future, duh) when saying or doing certain things in the beginning of their careers. And that turned out to be quite inconvenient years later as they became world famous in the meanwhile. Personally I believe this is what happened with the fanfiction issue.

Maybe years ago they didn’t really mind fanfictions, because there weren’t many*. Then things slowly escalated, and it all got out of control. Whatever they think of them now, doesn’t change that we’re WAY past the pont of return.

*Fun stuff: look up things in Google Trends to see how popular searches have been during the years. If you type in “dan and phil fanfiction” you’ll see there’s essentially nothing before 2012. I wasn’t around back then, but I think it makes sense to think that fanfictions just weren’t rampant when DP only had a small fanbase. So any related problems must have been easier to deal with at the time. Cut to nowadays, when the Venn diagram of people who consume phanfiction and the people who treat Dan and Phil like a pair of exotic animals on display is just a circle…
