-one day you had jokingly suggested the bunker should do a cookie jar

-this was taken seriously; not only by Dean, Sam and Cas; but also by literally every regular passerby. Even Rowena's made a batch of red velvet cookies. (We threw those ones away, we couldn't trust that they weren't poisoned, made of blood, or both)

-but if it's just the usual crew (you, the brothers, and Cas) then you have a weekly rotation

-and Dean regularly suckers you into "helping" him, even though you both knows he’s capable of being a big boy (and I mean he is a big boy if you catch my drift) and doing it himself

-those candy apple green eyes work wonders

-anyhoo

-one of his favorite, stupidly cheesy things to do is as follows:

-you’ll have a taste of the batter/dough/filling, as one does (it’s always good cause the two of you together are an unstoppable force in the kitchen) (alone is a different story- it’s usually Kraft Mac n Cheese cups)

-and while you’re trying it, making faces, he’ll look over and innocently ask if he can try it

-like “Can I get some, sweetheart?” (And yes he most certainly can get some.) (batter, I mean) (definitely batter) or “can I try some, doll?”

-and no matter how many times he’s tried it you’ll say yes

-so he’ll lean down, cupping your cheeks in his rough hands and kiss you as passionately as humanly possible

-like, these kisses could literally bake the cookies or whatever because of how hot they are

-and he’ll make sure he really gets to try it

-and then he’ll pull back with a smirk, cause he’s done it at least 30 times before and you still let him and still like melt into a puddle every single time. Without fail.

-you guys like to put on Disney soundtracks in the background when you bake. High school musical and Moana primarily, but he’s also taken with the soundtrack of Julie and the Phantoms. (He complained about the show being unrealistic supernaturally speaking and then was adamant that there should be a season two and cancelling it was a crime worthy of hell)

-also, rock, obviously. As a fan of Bon Jovi, you best believe you sell him on them and slow dance to Bed of Roses while things are in the oven. It’s only right.

-if you’re listening to heat of the moment and Sam the baby giraffe walks in he will get those sad eyes, making both of you scramble to make him something else, like some keto hidden veggie brownies or some shit, to make him feel better

-now, in specifics

-pie is for fun. You two usually make one to split for after dinner. Roughly once a month, but should be more often. Well, that’s not fair if you count creampies

-apple is his favorite, ofc. You use Mary’s recipe, and you’re the only person in the whole wide world that he trusts with modifying it in any way

-you also make them for him if he’s sick or if you guys have for some reason had a fight. The latter is rarer, but does still happen on occasion

-it’s okay though, because pie will always make things better

-cookies are almost exclusively for the jar. These are made on random frequencies, usually a lot at a time.

-he likes butterscotch a lot, and you find a way to mix your favorite flavors into either one monstrosity or one beauty of a cookie

-you guys have in fact made your own recipe. It’s awesome. Like, prized possession material.

-and then brownies

-they’re literally just pimped up store bought mix. Preferably Ghirardelli, for maximum bougie-ness

-and then sometimes you guys add some fun time grass

-you’ll do that when you just want to have a soft night. You’ll always way up to him laying on you and holding you like a koala though- may your back be prepared

-overall he just really enjoys spending time with you in any way that he can and baking is a great way to do that

wax seals. writing in ink. that moment when your stomach drops and you realize something horrible is about to happen. a single candle in the dark. heated arguments. ballroom dancing. stacks of paper overflowing a desk. fresh beginnings. the ticking of a clock. loud arguments. hand kisses. the barely-there trace of a word that’s been erased. passive aggressive texts. icy faces and wet cheeks. blood on the ground.  forgiveness. quiet gasps into silence. 

FALSETTOS

the tetris music. a pen scraping against paper. dayenu. the muffled sound of crying in your mother’s room. tense silence at the dinner table. a chess board left in the middle of a game. carefully placed decorative pillows. stimming. red hoodies. kisses in the back of a dark bar. baseball. a hand on your thigh. sweaters. prayer shawls. too much champagne. the beeping of hospital instruments. hickeys all over your body. boxes full of old polaroids. fresh flowers on a gravestone.

IN THE HEIGHTS

piragua. flags blowing in the wind. muffled latin music. champagne bottles popping loudly. fireworks. slushies being slurped through a straw. pigeons picking bread-crumps. candles in a blackout. the hottest day of the summer when the air seems to turn liquid. fire-escapes. taxis. dress-shirts and black ties. record scratches. graffiti. streetlights. winning lottery tickets. gossip at the salon. stacks of school books. the sound of a train going by. secrets kept away from the neighbors. coming home at the end of the day.

SPRING AWAKENING

wildflowers. white sundresses. first kisses. clammy hands holding each other. flower crowns. haylofts. tingly feelings all over. goethe. endless darkness. cold hands. silent screams. chalk against a chalkboard. all-nighters. wine yards. too-tight braids. bruises. innocence lost. graveyards. loveletters. adults that don’t get it. piano lessons. study dates. phantom touches. whispers that stop when you get close. rolled down knee socks. your dad’s gun. 

LEGALLY BLONDE

tiny dogs. red bull. pink. hello kitty. getting cat called. corduroy. leather messenger bags. the sound of high heels against tiles. scented paper. unworn fancy dresses. smeared lipstick. walking up on stage during your graduation. the flow-feeling you get into when studying something you actually care about. the scent of department stores. the tense atmosphere in court rooms. finding unexpected sisterhood. 

WAITRESS

the scent of freshly baked pies. flour on your hands. old diners from the 60s that still look the same. southern hospitality. those dreadful minutes after you take a test and have to wait for a result. feeling lonely at night while someone else is asleep right next to you. contorted guitar chords. old recipe books passed down through generations. knowing something is wrong but doing it anyway. nights spent curled up on the couch with true crime shows.

Kate had patiently awaited the phantom thief's arrival on this special day, sitting patiently at her table, set with a crimson cloth and decorated with candles ( she also didn't forget to place the red rose she had received from Daisuke ). While it was a shame she couldn't properly decorate her room for the holidays, she did the best she could with her privilege as a shadow noble ( and Emilico's help of course ). Cookies and tea were of course, laid out on the table and in her hands was a medium, neatly wrapped present box. She appeared to be nervous until finally, the phantom thief had made his arrival and she promptly hopped off her seat to greet him with the present. " Merry Christmas. Kate said she would give you a present, right ? She hopes you like it ... " She looked away, a bit embarrassed. " Kate had the help of a friend to make it so it might not be quite well-made but ... she wanted to give you something. " What would be inside was a pair of homemade cute Dark and Daisuke plush dolls. They were bit clumsily made with uneven stitching and some lopsided proportions but she did her best to capture their likeness. They could be called cute at the very least. " You're free to open it whenever you'd like but Kate would like you to stay for a little party ... if you'd be willing to join her tonight. "

' kate ! ' never would he have kept a lady waiting --- for too long , anyways . with the niwa family regularly rescinding its right to lay out cards on any sort of holiday , the only trouble he and his other self has had was deciding just what to bring over to shadows house as a guest . ( is it really that important ... ? ) daisuke had asked at first , only to be met with an immediately snapped : ( obviously , stupid !! )

no matter their own promises to simply arrive , when a girl invited you over for something like christmas , right into the very mansion that was her own family heirloom , then no matter whether or not her territories were reduced to just one measly room within it , it should have still been expected to include a lavish gift .

it's thus that when he's finally made it he can't help but grin , the full , pointed tips of his teeth flashing themselves while the slit needles of his eyes happily pinched . from the thrill of recognition to an immediate softening warmth and bliss , he can't hide his enthusiasm anymore than kate seems to be able to , his gaze marveling at the room's adjustments and offerings , following her guidance until it finally lands on the wrapped box in front of him .

really , getting them ( them ! the phantom thieves ! ) any sort of gift of their own was just ...

' wasn't it difficult , kate-san ? ... eh --- oh ! '

a jolt of surprise accompanies daisuke's deep flush as he realizes his transformation . what should have been nothing more than an idle thought has already left his lips , but he leaves the wonder alone and to itself . ( --- don't mess this up , got that ? ) he already knew ; didn't need dark telling him twice . so he lets his toes wiggle nervously on the inside of his shoes as he accepts her parcel with a stiff , half-complete bow . one glance flits from its wrapping up to its sender , but as he should have expected , there wasn't any sort of discernible expression at all on kate's face .

would it really have been alright to open it where he stood --- ? ( i want to see what's inside too , so just do it ! )

daisuke does , gradually revealing the two plush dolls . when he recognizes their likenesses , something in him soars . ' this ... ' was it really okay ? weren't they expecting something like teas , or dried floral paper-presses ? impartial , impersonal presents much like the regal atmosphere kate readily tried to keep about herself . no , here was proof : of her thoughtfulness if not their very friendship , as evident in every stitch as the blatant morph of the boy-thief's body , the broken dam of shock and ensuing wonder nearly leaving him to forget about his own brought gift .

' w-wait , ' when the awe retreats a little his throat suddenly clears ; he couldn't let her steal the entire christmas stage away from him . ' i wanted --- we had something to show you . ' and he gingerly places aside the plush dolls besides the plate of cookies and tea , replacing the space of his hands and their wiggling fingers with a sudden-manifested top hat instead . for the brief moment dark fits it snugly onto his head , the shape of it hardly seeming to suit him --- until he swoops it right off in a bow , a hefty , well-sized rabbit plush left balanced and greeting in its place , just-nearly touching kate's nose as he leans forwards .

pure , snow-like white . its soft faux fur was spotless , and above the small set of its nose sparkled two ruby jewel eyes . ' ... for you . don't worry about the color , because even if it turns pitch black , you'll still be able to see its eyes . ' words accompanied by a wink , and yet another toothy grin . ' you've made it a wonderful christmas . if you'd like us to stay , then there's no way we could possibly decline . '

in fact , in preparation , he sets her gift near his ; the assortment of plush presents forming their own miniature party . the sight of it fills him with something like happiness . something like peace , and the precious sensation of companionship that he had only just begun to regularly taste . the day and the night , he could be kate's for as long as she liked .

' i'll treasure these just as much as any masterpiece . ' just for a moment , he hesitates --- but then his hands lift both plush resemblances of himself . quick as the affectionate peck of a bird , he presses their miniature fronts onto each of kate's cheeks . a kiss in lieu of one that might dissatisfy her again , though he can't help but let loose a cherub's giggle , in the end . ' --- thank you . thank you so much . i never thought ... i can't believe anyone would make something like this for me . '
