By now, there's lots of people have heard about the internal CDC memos for all newly prepared manuscripts (like future scientific papers waiting to be published):
Tumblr media
There's so much to comment on, and I'm seeing it all right now. What the state of science is. What this means for the queer community. All of that.
But fuck, I think I might genuinely start crying over this. As a transgender biologist, this feels like a brutally personal blow. I slowly accepted my gender alongside my biology education. The more misinformation that was spewed about "biological sex" by mainstream media, the more my professors, colleagues, and primary sources would casually drop information that proved they have no idea what they're talking about. I'm not an expert on sex determination, gender, or transgender biology specifically by any means. But my worldview has been crafted by my studies in genetics and molecular biology.
Engaging with this research helped me demystify transition. It helped me optimize my transition. It helped me explain how HRT and other steps of trans healthcare work to other people. And it helped me overcome my own internalized transphobia, and finally start transitioning, despite knowing I wanted to since my preteen years.
Who knows how enforceable internal guidelines like this will be. But its certainly going to scare a lot of researchers away from transgender healthcare and science in the coming years, and that breaks my heart.
There's a lot I can say here, but fuck. I just needed to vent for a moment. Fuck.

For your fan continuity, I have to know how Ultra Magnus fucked up.
ok this requires a LOT of explaining.
In this continuity, Orion is lower class and is a miner while his older brother, Magnus, (they are brothers in this one) tries to earn as much money for him and lil Orion as he can. He manages to get a somewhat well paying job under Tyrest and becomes a rookie officer/enforcer. We all know how Tyrest is…
Ultra Magnus, however, is willing to do whatever job he is put through if it meant saving him and Orion from the slums and Orion out of his mining job. Well, there is an open spot in the council (the people that work directly under Sentinel, kinda like the Supreme Court) and Shockwave(pre-empurata) decided to run for the position, while also being of a lower class. They let him into the council, but reluctantly since Sentinel knew that riots would start if he didn’t. He had a plan though….he decided to frame Shockwave for a crime he didn’t commit so officials would be “forced” to remove him from office.
Who did they pick to arrest Shockwave, you ask? What about the poor rookie nobody who will roll over like a dog if you asked him? Magnus is fed a fake story about how Shockwave was caught stealing currency and government documents from the council. So, he acts as the officer he was and lays down the law.
However, as Shockwave is wrongfully held in a waiting cell, Magnus catches a private conversation with Tyrest, Sentinel, and Pharma(who was also a part of the council). Basically saying the plan is going smoothly and they were to make an example of the poor Senator. Now…Magnus catches onto what they were going to do to the innocent mech and the thing is…he was afraid. He was worried about the future, what would happen if he let Shockwave go or confronted the council. Would anything happen? Would he be fired? What would happen to ORION?? So, he was silent. His whole world view of “with enough hard work, people will listen to you” crumbled. In that moment he realized he never mattered to any of them class-wise. That he was used, and he fell for it.
Pharma preforms an empurata on Shockwave(which was technically illegal at this point in the story) and this causes many people to speculate, especially Megatron. After the arrest of Shockwave, he posts many essays about his thoughts on the matter. His writing begins to get popular and he then makes the first decepticons (which were around 7-10 people at this time). Megatron finds out through Orion(who wasn’t told about the false arrest) that Magnus did an arrest the same night Shockwave was taken in, and this acted as sort of Megatron’s full break in trust of officers and upper castes people, and more importantly the start of his loss of trust in Magnus and Orion by association.
What I tried to write Magnus as is sort of an opposite to Orion/Optimus. While Magnus would rather stay in the comfort of familiarity, not wanting to cause any unnecessary or inconvenient confrontation for him or his brother, Optimus would rather die than let others feel as if they never mattered. He was willing to fight the powers in charge and then Megatron in order for all to be equal.
SORRY FOR THE ESSAY RESPONSE I HOPE THIS ISN’T TOO LONG 💀

Real question tho. since they are editing the genes with compatible dire wolf pieces, and it at least seems like they intend to set up a breeding program for their creations, could these things end up being somewhat like a direwolf subspecies if the gray wolf genes are eventually filtered out as much as possible? Or would they wind up being a unique species of their own?
I guess... at what point does something change enough to clearly define it is no longer part of the parent species it originated from?
Furthermore when I was watching their video on how they did it, seemed like they only had 2 viable direwolf specimens to extract any DNA from, is that even enough diversity to propagate the species? Does it still count as inbreeding when the genes are modified but from the same source on one side?
also, my 2 cents about this in general... I don't see it as a scam as much as a marketing tactic. getting a good public image like this and hyping people up is how they're gonna attract tons of investors to fund more research and facilities. Sure, a bit of john hammond, but less for stupid reasons - for now, anyway. that could easily change. if they stick to their goals, it could potentially lead to actual de-extinction of some (likely much more recent) species or significantly help boost endangered ones. if they do it right. but they 1000000% need some big time investors to realize this "dream" of theirs. this is essentially like an early release alpha demo game. showing proof of concept. giving the public something that will keep them talking and relevant. showing the people with fat wallets they can deliver on a product. appealing to the scientists across the genetics field or attracting new ones fresh out of graduating to come lend their skills and knowledge. and even if they don't reach those goals, this work would undoubtedly further the field of genetics and can serve as a research hotbed for endangered and threatened species. that's being optimistic of course. but the potential is there. idk, just came off way more markety imo. is it actually dire wolf? no, but they aren't hiding that it isn't either. it's like when rayon fabric is marketed as bamboo. it's not a secret how rayon is made if you just take 20 seconds to look into it, but the public doesn't really care.
It's hilarious to me how Colossal Biosciences wants to be movie-version John Hammond but are 100% book-version John Hammond. In the Jurassic Park novel, it's very clear: John Hammond is a con artist who gives people an illusion, not the truth. He knew from the beginning that what he was making weren't dinosaurs, but he didn't care because he had a story to sell. He wasn't just "filling in gaps" with the frog dna, his scientists were basically making things up from whole cloth and he had no pretence about it- but he also knew what the public wanted to believe.
Case in point: https://time.com/7274542/colossal-dire-wolf/
These are not dire wolves. These are GMO gray wolves. Dire wolves aren't even in the same genus as gray wolves, and we know this from genetics.
What Colossal is doing is scamming the public. They want you to believe that they can pull off miracles. They can't. It's the flea circus where everything is mechanised, but because you want to believe, you "see" the fleas. They might be good at genetic modification and they might be good at hyping themselves up, but they haven't de-extincted the dire wolf. They didn't activate mammoth genes in a mouse. They are lying to you and they're going to keep doing it. Don't believe the hype.

Specificity analytical method validation
According to the International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) guideline Q2(R1), specificity is defined as:“Specificity is the ability to assess unequivocally the analyte in the presence of components which may be expected to be present.”This means that a specific analytical method should be able to measure the target analyte accurately…

What is the significance of blockchain technology in health sector
Tumblr media
Introduction
The healthcare sector is increasingly under pressure to become more modernized. Amidst digital transformation, one technology stands out as having the ability to revolutionize the manner in which health systems function: blockchain technology. Initially created for use in cryptocurrency, blockchain is currently being tested across a vast array of applications—for the pharmaceutical sector and others. Its promise is that it can provide security, transparency, and efficiency within decentralized networks.
1. Understanding Blockchain Beyond Cryptocurrency
At a glance, blockchain is:
A digital ledger that is decentralized and records information on multiple computers
Tamper-proof and transparent, with each entry verified and stamped with a timestamp
Based on cryptographic algorithms that protect data integrity
In healthcare, these features translate into real-world benefits:
Removing intermediaries: Data is exchanged peer-to-peer, cutting costs and latency.
Ensuring authenticity: Data cannot be changed once added without leaving a trail.
Building trust: All participants view the same verified data, eliminating discrepancies.
2. Transforming Patient Data Management
Historically, medical records have been siloed, fragmented, and frequently inaccessible across providers. Blockchain technology for healthcare can transform this completely.
Major advantages:
Integrated patient profiles: Health information from multiple sources can be brought together on one, unalterable chain.
Access control: Patients can authorize or withdraw access through digital keys, taking back control of their data.
Fewer errors: Real-time, accurate histories reduce the likelihood of misdiagnosis or redundant testing.
Imagine:
A foreign traveler who is injured. With blockchain, a local physician might be able to access their medical history—medications, allergies, surgeries—immediately, without delay or translation problems.
3. Supply Chain Transparency in Pharmaceuticals
Perhaps the most revolutionary application is in following pharmaceuticals from the factory to the pharmacy. The requirement is urgent—counterfeit medicines are projected to kill more than a million people worldwide annually.
Blockchain facilitates:
Real-time tracking: Each phase in the supply chain is recorded, from manufacturing to delivery.
Authentication: Doctors and patients can check a drug's authenticity with a quick scan.
Rapid recalls: Defective or tainted products can be traced and recalled quickly.
This degree of openness is opening pharma's future, where medicine is trusted and every pill's journey is tracked and safe.
4. Strengthening Clinical Trials and Research Integrity
Clinical trials are the backbone of medical progress—but they're susceptible to data tampering and biased reporting. Blockchain brings a new level of veracity and trackability.
Benefits include:
Immutable audit trails: Trial procedures, data inputs, and results are recorded in real-time and can't be changed.
Better collaboration: Decentralized access makes it possible for research institutions all over the globe to add data securely.
Enhanced transparency: Public availability of some trial findings could enhance public trust and accountability.
This maintains science as incorruptible even in the face of corporate or political pressure.
5. Data Security and Privacy in a Digital Age
Healthcare data breaches are not only costly—they're hazardous. Blockchain is a digital fortress, and it provides powerful solutions for the safeguarding of sensitive medical data.
Security highlights:
Encryption by default: Patient information is anonymized and encrypted.
Decentralized storage: No single point of failure for hackers to attack.
Audit capabilities: All access is time-stamped and logged, providing complete traceability.
From a compliance standpoint, blockchain enables:
GDPR and HIPAA compliance: With patient consent embedded in the system, it is simpler to enforce privacy rules.
Ethical governance: Patients remain in charge of their data, controlling who views it and when.
6. Challenges and Considerations
Promising though it may be, blockchain's path to mainstream healthcare is fraught with a variety of obstacles.
Obstacles are:
Technical sophistication: Seamlessly integrating into established electronic health record systems is no easy task.
Scalability challenges: Most existing blockchain architectures have trouble supporting large numbers of transactions.
Regulatory confusion: The regulatory schemes under which blockchain is to be used in healthcare are not yet fully defined.
Implementation cost: Initial investment in infrastructure and training can be considerable.
To achieve the full potential, cooperation between tech providers, healthcare facilities, and regulators is necessary.
Conclusion
Blockchain technology is set to shake up and redefine the healthcare landscape. From enhancing patient empowerment to increasing supply chain transparency and maintaining the integrity of clinical trials, its potential is enormous and compelling. While challenges remain, the momentum is unarguable—for the pharmaceutical sector and healthcare in general, this is a defining turning point.
The question isn't whether blockchain will become the foundation of the health industry—it's how quickly it will revolutionize the manner in which we take care of each other?
