A Phoenix is NOT easily defeated!
So, I announced a few days ago that I was suspending MediaMiner posts of Phoenix: Reignited for two main reasons:
Their editor breaks formatting for things like italics
I get no notifications when I get a comment
Well, the other day I noticed Fanfiction.net was also breaking formatting, and I found a fix for it. I thought, what the hell, I'll see if that fixed formatting works on MediaMiner, and lo! It does! So, that solves one of the two issues that cost me the platform. But… what about the other? If I could solve that…
Well, it turns out MediaMiner doesn't have a true comment system; it backports comments to a forum. I found the URL to the actual forum. I then wrote a web scraper that sorts it by most recent, polls the first three pages (the 90 most recently-commented chapters, and currently Page 1 goes all the way back to August, so that should be plenty safe.) It parses every thread looking for Phoenix: Reignited and if it finds one, yanks out all the relevant data. It then dumps that into an RSS feed on ThePhoenixSaga.com, and then I set up a free RSS monitoring automation on Zapier to check that RSS feed and email me if any new items are detected.
Tumblr media
Like. A. Bawss. EDIT: For any other fanfiction graybeards out there who still have stuff on MediaMiner, I open sourced the scraper script. Enjoy it! https://github.com/AnneIsOminous/mediaminermonitor

Make a neocities, it is Very fun, I promise.
oh trust me ive looked into it :) im a spare time web dev/frontend engineer so it looked like a lot of fun but i dont like the IDE work sync method since it's a browser-based HTML editor, so i just got too lazy to actually code something and then merge all the files over 😭
i was thinking of trying it out though for a personal blog, but ive definitely spent too long on my 90s web styled portfolio website (professional for webdev and research stuff, not art haha) so im a little burnt out lmaooo
i do want to start a personal blog or even an interactive OC website using rlly cool jQuery functionality, etc. but ive just never gotten around to it :( if anything i'd probably opt for a github.io website since im comfortable with Git config and that kind of save workflow. thank you for the recommendation though! i will get around to it eventually 🤞

Hello, my name is Bettina and i'm 27 years old. I live in Sweden 🇸🇪 but i'm born in Hungary 🇭🇺.
I'm currently studying web development focusing e-commerce. I've done it for a year now and i have one year left in school. I have not had my internship yet.

03.july23,mon ; internship
i had my first work-day today at my internship and my brain started melting alreadyyy D: i knew they were using PHP for their websites so i started off with learning HTML and CSS so far. Why does PHP seem so complicated compared to those two?:,)
I also didn't understand the connection between PHP and MySQL yet? can someone explain?
i decided to use my free night to begin the codecademy tutorial about PHP and just do that until i fall asleep, hopefully it will open my eyes a bit more than the website they provided me with. wish me luck(pls)<3

How can I control render blocking in an HTML and React.js application? Render blocking can significantly impact the performance of your HTML and React.js application, slowing down the initial load time and user experience. It occurs when the browser is prevented from rendering the page until certain resources, like scripts or stylesheets, are loaded and executed. To control render blocking, you can employ various techniques and optimizations. Let's explore some of them with code examples.

Creating a webmention inbox
Next script on the chopping block is going to be a webmention endpoint. Think of it as an inbox where you collect comments, reblogs, likes, etcetera. I found a script that handles most of it already, under creative commons. So, all I will need to add is something to parse the contents of it.
-=Some design points=-
Needs to block collection from urls in a banlist/blacklist
Needs to collect commenter info from h-cards - if no card is found, just use website link.
Limit filesize of the comment. And truncate too long strings of comments
Adds a timestamp if no publish date is found
output formatted data, including the target page, into a JSON for easy retrieval by javascript
If no file exists, then create empty JSON file.
Write an associated javascript to display the likes, comments, and reblogs on the webpage.
Update existing comments if the SOURCE already exists in the json file.
Javascript
Will retrieve any comments where the target matches the page URL
Will insert comments in the "comments" class
Reblogs/mentions inserted without content into "reblog" class
Insert likes counter into a "likes" class
Sorted by date/timestamp
*Keep in mind, I do work a full time job, so I am just doing this in my free time. *

React JS
Component-Based Architecture:
React applications are built using components, which are reusable, self-contained pieces of the UI. Components can be nested, managed, and handled independently, leading to better maintainability and scalability.
JSX (JavaScript XML):
React uses JSX, a syntax extension that allows HTML to be written within JavaScript. This makes the code more readable and easier to write.
Virtual DOM:
React maintains a virtual DOM, an in-memory representation of the actual DOM. When the state of an object changes, React updates the virtual DOM and efficiently determines the minimal set of changes needed to update the real DOM, leading to performance improvements.
One-Way Data Binding:
Data flows in one direction, from parent to child components, which makes the data flow and logic easier to understand and debug.
State Management:
React components can maintain internal state, making it easy to build dynamic and interactive UIs. For more complex state management, libraries like Redux or Context API can be used.
Advantages of Using React
Performance:
Due to the virtual DOM, React minimizes direct manipulation of the DOM, resulting in better performance for dynamic applications.
Reusable Components:
Components can be reused across different parts of an application, reducing the amount of code and enhancing consistency.
Strong Community and Ecosystem:
A large community and a rich ecosystem of tools and libraries support React, making it easier to find solutions, get support, and integrate with other technologies.
SEO Friendly:
React can be rendered on the server using Node.js, making web pages more SEO-friendly compared to traditional client-side rendering.
Getting Started with React
To start building applications with React, you need to have Node.js and npm (Node Package Manager) installed. Here’s a basic setup to create a new React application:
Install Node.js and npm:
Download and install from Node.js website.
Create a New React Application:
You can use Create React App, an officially supported way to create single-page React applications with no configuration required:
npx create-react-app my-app cd my-app npm start
import React from 'react';
function Welcome(props) { return
Hello, {props.name}
; }
export default Welcome;

04&05.july23,wed ; internship
ughhh that PHP todo-list is driving me insaaaane! the people at my internship are really nice and helpful, tho my social anxiety is not really good at asking for help and i keep trying to do most of it myself. yesterday i did not get any further, there was no way for me to ever think of any type of succes. today, tho, i finally connected the mySQL database to my PHP index and i can actually add to dos, give them priorities, a date and check them off as "done":))
i am really proud of that and tomorrow i will try to insert a "delete" button to delete tasks, maybe i'll have some time and add some CSS to it to make it a bit prettier:) i'll see what i can doooo aghhh everytime i go home my brain is smoking tho it is really fun to try out new things and test things out!!
