It's Godzilla-but Space!
Tumblr media
Okay, so (tied) second place entry 2-SpaceGodzilla.
So, first of all with these dude, he's one of the cases where I actually did come up with some lore/origins for him. Albeit a kinda dumb one.
So, I really wanted Space to have this "evil overlord/king" kind of feeling to him, so I had the dumb idea that he was originally this alien king who was exiled or usurped off his own planet and now roams the cosmos looks for means to aquire more power and start re-building his galactic empire through conquering other worlds.
Her finds out that Earth has some really powerful crap, and gets the idea to hire Gigan in order to collect a sample of Godzilla's DNA. He then, like a genius, injects himself with the stuff and...you get what's in the picture.
Design wise, as well as the king thing, I wanna visually suggest that this Space is incredibly reliant on his psychic powers, even to move around, the actual suit used in the movie is infamously bulky, so I exaggerated that. Also his whole crystal theme runs to the extent that he's made of something closer to stone than flesh.
But of course, what's an Evil Overlord without minions? Here's a "bonus entry":
Tumblr media
Turns out another strange property of SpaceG's crystals is that they can imprison other beings and mutate them into Krystalaks, super tough crystalline minions that SpaceG can order around telepathically. Dude's pretty eager to abuse this feature too. The jerk.
Not quite sure if I'm happy with the Krystalak design, reads as a little "toy like" right now. You might have noticed there's heavy inspiration from the Godzilla Pipeworks Trilogy series of games here. Never got to play them myself (the Monsterverse is how I got into Godzilla), but I think they're really neat and hope they get remakes one day (or a proper successor.)
Kinda rambled a bit there. Anyway, Funny Sad Trauma Tree Godzilla is next.

Growing up with Godzilla
It was 2003. I was about 5. I only remember that because I saw Finding Nemo in theaters that year. See one of the perks of autism is that you often have a clear memory of things that resonate with you. And what resonated with me was movies and tv shows. In particular Power Rangers.
So it should come to no surprise when during that year, I sat down and watched a film where the first thing I saw was a massive dinosaur doing battle with a robotic duplicate. I thought it was an episode of Power Rangers at first. Yet the dinosaur wasn't really depicted as entirely evil. It was trying to find its offspring that humans had captured. And there wasn't anything triumphant about humans triumphing over either it or the mutated Pteranodon it formed an alliance with. There was long lingering shots of the giant monsters thrashing in pain, foaming at the mouth, or undergoing painful convulsions with bolts of electricity being shot through them.
Then, against all odds, the dinosaur got back up. It destroyed its robotic duplicate and guided its offspring back out to sea rather than continue to destroy civilization.
What I didn't know was that this was my first Godzilla movie. And I was hooked. I often went to the video store to view as many Godzilla movies as I could. Sometimes he was a bad guy. Other times, he was a hero. Yet all the time, he couldn't be stopped. He got swallowed alive, dumped in a volcano, electrocuted, cut up, and bled like a stuck pig. Yet he kept coming.
I grew up. Played the Pipeworks Trilogy. Started my Godzilla DVD collection with a box set and went on from there. Saw the first film and the allegory he was conceived in. Saw him become a good guy and a symbol of hope. A literal zombie in one film and savior of the planet in another. It was like everyone had their vision of what Godzilla should stand for. Course back then, everyone thought Godzilla was just for little kids. Almost got ashamed a few times of being a fan.
Yet I kept coming back. Soon he was on the big screen again in both America and Japan. I still remember seeing Godzilla 2014 at an AMC theater.
It's been a long road, and I wasn't the same kid I was before. I got older. Smarter. Some things I appreciated back then I dropped, and I picked up other interests. Godzilla never left though. One way or another, he kept coming back. And as I got older, I started learning the history behind the monster. The real history of the bombings that spawned him. The various societal factors that birthed his foes. All the cultural practices and changing times that caused Godzilla to evolve over the decades.
Now we stand on his 70th anniversary. Godzilla's won an oscar, and some of his older films are being shown at Fathom Events around the world. We've got short films, fan animations, comics. Hell. I'm writing a Godzilla crossover fic with Avatar the Last Airbender. I've seen him go from being something only meant for kids to being embraced by a growing fanbase of all ages. And chances are he's going to evolve time and again in the future.
Something I grew up with, something I was derided for liking, was becoming more respected. People began reevaluting his older movies. Even I began wondering what kept him to be so enduring. I may not know the whole answer since Godzilla's one of those characters that's simply too big for one person to fully summarize. What I can say is this: he made me feel valued. Maybe I'm waxing poetic, but when you get dedicated to a film series, you start to realize that you're smarter than you realize. You begin to appreciate things you never thought you'd touch. And maybe, just maybe, you've got something more to offer than most people give you credit for.
In time, you learn to endure the bad times. Cause Godzilla's always there, and he never stops giving. He teaches that sometimes it can be cathartic to see cities crumble and the sins of man laid bare. Sometimes one can have sympathy to those you never thought you'd have for. Sometimes what's good in humanity can pull themselves out of the rubble and fight for what really matters.
And sometimes, when all is said and done, you can decide to end the cycle of violence and head back out to sea.

Pretty good answers, happy new year! 🥳 here’s the first questions of 2024! :D
1: since Jake & mar’i are descendants of a feline race, would it make sense to have a fear of dogs or at least the bigger ones?
2: what does the duo do on New Year’s Eve?
3: does the duo do anything special on New Year’s Day or is that day treated like any other day?
4: what’s one secret does the duo have, besides the obvious stuff like secret identities? Like Chris saw Kon scratching his butt and sniffing it & Kon tells Chris don’t tell the others for example.
5: what’s their sense of humor like? Besides the silver age puns they like to do?
6: here’s season 3 of Superman & Lois rewrite: after the battle with Zod, mysterious purple kryptonite came into the world from the phantom zone; which gave regular people powers, Bruno mainhuim, the crime boss of metropolis, mange to grab a hold of it & turn it into a drug (which is X-kryptnite, in the series) & sold it like how normal drugs are sold. A group of bullies at Jons & Chris’s school mange to get some (because of plot lol) & either bully Chris & Jon at school or become a group of small super villains that robs bank & pick on anybody weaker than them. Of course Superman, Nightwing, & superboy stop them, with Chris & Jon doing bullying tatics as a sort of karma & irony like wedgies & diping their heads in puddles of water. The season ends with Bruno being stop and put in jail & all the purple kryptnite being destroyed or lock in the fortress.
And now, about four days after the first day lol, here’s the first answers of 2024 @pin-crusher2000 ;-)
1) While it’s a common thought among many who take note of that genetic lineage, since Jake has Haley aka Bitewing as his canine companion and gets along well enough with both Krypto and Ranger whenever The Kents bring them up, it’s more dependent on how used to the dogs in question Mar’i and Jake are. Basically, like with real cats and dogs living together, it depends on how long they know each other and how used to each other’s company they are.
2) It’s a massive gathering at Titans Tower where both Graysons and Kents visit, along with all the other Titans International, the Batfamily, even some Justice Leaguers and JSA members. The Duo usually stick next to their fellow StarKnights, hanging out in Dick’s own room and talking about their plans for the year ahead of them. Once it comes time for the Big Countdown, every single person there is gathered at the Ops Room to watch. Once Midnight hits, Chris and Jake take the karaoke set and do an impromptu show of their favorite songs for the crowds. The Duo themselves stay up at least until around 2 am since the day after was still in Winter Break for them
3) As for the following New Year’s Day, I can see the Duo take it relatively slow. First after helping with clean up efforts from last night, they’d be at the Grayson apartment, in Jake’s room making a small New Year live stream and play through of some old games, mainly the Pipeworks Godzilla Trilogy (Destroy All Monsters Melee, Save the Earth and Unleashed). They would of course invite Meredith and Thara for the chat. Finally for the night, they’d go on a quick patrol across Bludhaven, taking down any smaller crime activity and pulling over drunk drivers before wrapping it all up and getting rest for tomorrow.
4) I say Chris once confessed to Jake of one time he let a little piglet from the barnyard into his room after it got spooked by a passing thunderstorm despite usually animals not being allowed in besides the dogs. Clark was the only one who found out about it and allowed Chris to keep that pig with him for the night, later making small renovations to the barn so the sounds of thunder would be muffled and not scare animals like said piglet as much anymore.
On a more funny note, Jake in turn tells his best friend one time attempts watching R Rated horror flick on Halloween at Midnight. Like so R Rated and horrifying, even grown adults were reported to faint when it first came out in theaters. Needless to say, Jake shutting down the tv and making a run for his bed all happens within less then five minutes. Just how for once Dick wasn’t able to deduce who put that movie in the dvd player that night is nothing short of astonishing as far as Jake’s concerned.
5) Besides from the intentional puns in the battlefield and the unintentional slapstick they do to themselves, the Duo primarily like the art of riffing and snarking. This especially shows itself when on some nights they hang out, sometimes with some of their friends, they’d watch some old cheesy 1950s-1970s B movies, having a good laugh at the hokey performances, bizarre plots, and just plain bad special effects. It’s a tradition Jake inherited from Dick who would do the same some nights with his own birth father John. For reference of that act, look up Mystery Science Theater 3000 and that’ll clarify things a bit.
6) Ah something simple and yet can involve all three main Supers. Maybe for a subplot that eventually congeals naturally into the main plot has Lois be the first to notice the change in some people on the streets who received their newfound superpowers, putting her journalism skills to use. If anything, elevating her status with in the Daily Planet as a successor to Perry White
I like it A Lot

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more indie games trying to recapture the vibe of pipeworks' Godzilla trilogy and War of the Monsters. Like I can see how that would be a big thing to invest in but I think there'd be enough interest to get the ball rolling, y'know

You know? I'm going to be honest that when GigaBash was announced a few years ago, I wasn't interested at all but when the Godzilla DLC was going to be added on the roster, I was immediately sold. The thing is that the game wasn't out on the switch yet which at the time had received it as my 21st birthday present but it was out on Xbox and Playstation first before.
While I was playing the game after buying it virtually, I had a feeling of familiarity that I couldn't put my finger on it until I read the TV Tropes website about the game that the game was inspired by "War of the Monsters" and the Pipeworks Godzilla trilogy games (only I own one out of the three, "Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee" for the Gamecube plus used to play it for hours as a teen).
I couldn't stop playing GigaBash since it's really good and the fact it felt like I was playing my childhood game all over again although different. I do like the original monsters from the game like Woolley, Gigaman, Rawa, and Kongkrete.

With Halloween fast-approaching and with Beetlejuice coming in the mail (Beetlejuice was chosen instead of the originally-planned Pipeworks Godzilla trilogy due to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice coming out), it's no better time for Geoff the Green Demon to take a look at a game that was planned to be released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Yup, that's right! There were plans to release a game based on Atmosfear. Nobody knows why it got cancelled and there's not much information on it being announced aside from some mentions. But, imagine being that kid who's a big fan of Atmosfear/Nightmare only and being excited for this game to come out only for it to get cancelled. Yeah, I'm sure we've been there before. But anyways, Atmosfear has a stage selection similar to Mega Man and all of the stages are based on all six of the characters from Atmosfear/Nightmare. The Gatekeeper was also going to be final boss in the game and he would've been inspired by the final boss from Ghouls n' Ghosts. But alas, this game never saw the light of day.

Godzilla and friends hit GigaBash on December 7th! Holy fuckin' shit! I love that they went with Heisei G, I think I finally get why it's so often used as the "default" look for Godzilla. If you liked the Atari/Pipeworks Godzilla brawler trilogy and/or War of the Monsters on PS2 (or both!), you really should treat yourself to this lil gem! In addition to the incoming Toho titans, the original monsters and heroes in the base game are cool as fuck!

What you think of Godzilla and co coming to the Kaiju Fighting game Gigabash?
https://youtu.be/E5Iqm0z5WWk, https://youtu.be/PWuJG864xeo, https://youtu.be/25_TsmEp2uM, https://youtu.be/pIErnjnz4aw
I'm actually super excited for it! I'm planning on buying and streaming it this weekend! Woud love if instead of just colors, the alternate palletes for Goji were different suits from different movies, I mean I love Heisei Godzilla but the design in the Kiryu Saga has always been my favorite!
Tumblr media
Taking a quick glance at the gameplay style and its mix of like Smash Bros and Powerstone, I feel like Gigabash might basically be a spiritual successor to the Pipeworks trilogy of Godzilla games anyway, so bringing in the big G is a natural fit. If they bring in Kiryu as well tho, oh man, OH MAN.

A little fun fact about myself is that I wasn't always a Godzilla fan that I am currently. I actually didn't knew who he was at all until I was exposed to him for a brief moment in my childhood. It was "Godzilla vs Destoroyah", I vividly remember the one scene where Godzilla was fighting Destoroyah and the latter puked on him (I could be misremembering it, so take it with a grain of salt) and being a dumb kid that I was, went to go hide in another room due that I was scared of him. The movie aired on TV some time in the 2000s since I think I was under 10 years old when I saw that. How ironic is that?
My view of him completely changed in 2013, where at the time I was depressed (still am but not as much as it used to, I'm in therapy for that along with anxiety) and was dealing with it, I turned to Godzilla for comfort and glad I invested my time in the franchise ever since. I can say Godzilla is my hero for making my depression a bit bearable and it helped me even when it's a fraction.
The best thing is that I still own one Godzilla video game on a console that being "Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee" on the Gamecube (before transfering to the Wii to continue playing it). I used to play that game for hours on end while still in middle school, it was fun and now I miss playing it for nostalgia sake. How I got it in my possession? I wondered that too until I asked my dad, according to him, he bought it from a garage sale years ago if I remember correctly. The game further cemented my stay in the fandom.
When I heard GigaBash was released, I wasn't interested in it until the Godzilla DLC pack announcement, it immediately sold me lol. The game wasn't released on the switch yet at the time, when I got one for my 21st birthday, I immediately went to the e-store to buy the game and the DLC pack. I wouldn't be lying that while I was playing the game, a feeling was lingering around making me think "This game feels familiar and I couldn't put my finger on it". It wasn't that I went to the TV tropes website about the game that lo n behold, that both "War of the Monsters" and the PIPEWORKS GODZILLA TRILOGY GAMES were the inspiration for GigaBash! I was mind blown, it did explained why I got a familial feeling while playing the game. 🤯
I find Godzilla a cool and badass monster, he still is in my eyes years later. I want to be like him in a way, I respect and admire him despite that he's not a human. I love how nothing can stop him and he still stomps forward no matter what's thrown at him like missiles (one time with electricity which is something unique but doubt that was going to do anything to him). I want to be strong like him whether be physically and/or emotionally wise.
Thanks for reading if you make it this far ❤
