List: Queer creatives to spend your money on instead half-arsed pride merch from Target 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We're all aware by now that when you buy pride merch from one of Those Companies, your money is just going to a CEO who half-heartedly told someone to slap a rainbow on it and call it a day. So why not use that money to support an actual queer person who’s working hard to make art?

I've collected a(n incomplete) list of queer creatives who would benefit from your support this Pride Month - this is fairly limited in scope, as it only includes creators who responded to my call for links (or whose links were sent by friends & fans). It is also, for that reason, fairly audio-drama-heavy, but not exclusively so! It includes sections for crowdfunds, online stores, ttrpgs, and ko-fis and patreons for creators of a variety of different art forms.

Crowdfund campaigns:

Starting off strong with Forged Bonds @forgedbondspod — A queer, myth-bending audio drama retelling of Aphrodite and Hephaestus's love story.

This one takes pride of place as the inspiration for this post. Pine is working SO hard to make sure their cast gets paid regardless of crowdfunding outcomes, even if that means paying out-of-pocket. Help them avoid having to do that by supporting a truly kind and wonderful creator. (Crowdfund ends in a little over two weeks!)

We've also got a tight time-sensitive crowdfund for Waiting For October @monkeymanproductions — an upcoming queer supernatural audio drama series from the creators of Moonbase Theta, Out.

At the time of posting, they only have 13 hours left on their crowdfund, but they're 93% there! Help them cross the threshold and tell what I'm sure will be another gorgeous and wild story.

And for the horror lovers, a new crowdfund from The Morbid Forest — a deep dive into all things grusesome!

i know other types of media have given the trot of preorders a bad way, but for publishing books i cannot even begin to tell you buckaroos HOW IMPORTANT PREORDERS ARE WHEN SUPPORTING AUTHORS YOU CARE ABOUT. i mean HECK preorders are so important i even wrote three dang tinglers about it

basically preorders are what publishers use to determine how much financial backing they will give a book for advertising and book tours and all that, but that is only PART of this way. BOOK STORES also use a preorder equation to determine how much shelf space to give a book. your preorder does not just mean YOU get a book for yourself, but basically means you are making room for someone ELSE to get the book in a store by putting another copy on a shelf

that is why it is better to put in a preorder instead of just saying 'oh i will just remember to buy myself a copy on the day it comes out'

LASTLY preorders are how books get onto bestseller lists because all the orders leading up to your book release date COUNT AS FIRST WEEK SALES. something like new york times bestseller list is close to impossible trot without preorders

think of it like a handsome surfing bigfoot trying to ride a wave. it is one thing to actually ride on the wave, but what matters most is that initial moment when you GET UP THERE and actually have the strength to pull yourself up when the wave starts. PREORDERS are the climbing up part

next is WHERE do you order. this answer is pretty dang cool actually. the best place to order for the sake of author is your LOCAL INDIE BOOKSTORE. if you MUST order at a big timer website that is fine, but many bestseller lists are weighted towards indie bookstores

so to sum it up. the technical BEST WAY to support chuck with 'bury your gays' is to PREORDER a HARDCOVER from an INDIE BOOKSTORE.

That is going to make a LOT more people on Tumblr aware of the auction. The prospect of reaching a wider swath of fandom is great, and we appreciate the good intentions in asking Mr. Gaiman to boost us.

However.

That's on Tumblr. People following Neil Gaiman on Tumblr. Which is going to be mostly fandom people to start with.

Please do not contact celebrities or media creators about FTH on Twitter/X or any other social media.

Why? Don't we want all the publicity we can get?

Well, within fandom spaces, yes. The problem is that if we get too much attention outside of fandom spaces, that's going to attract trolls. People who think it's hilarious that anyone writes fic in the first place, people who look at some of our listings for explicit content and pass judgment, possibly people who are bigoted and just look at the fact that we have so many people offering queer ships and pass judgment.

That could result in abuse of our system and harassment of our creators and mods.

So please, please. Keep your FTH love within fandom spaces. Yes, there are fandom communities on other social media - that's why we have Twitter and Bluesky accounts! But there are also comparatively more non-fandom communities in those spaces as well, and a tweet that gets a celebrity's attention can spread so, so quickly to people whose attention we'd rather not have.

We super appreciate Mr. Gaiman's support for the amazing non-profits we feature, who are doing great work! And thank you to the greater FTH community for caring so passionately about our causes.

But our main priority — yes, even more important to us than raising money for good causes — is connecting and supporting the folks who are already participating. That’s all of you who are already here, and the fandom friends whom you recruit. I don’t think I’ve ever seen ship policing in any fandom as hostile as the policing in the Hazbin fandom. Since when did canon matter when it came to ships? Since when did the OG source material and what the creator says affect anyone’s ships? Did people forget that ships have no affect on the canon material and therefore remain harmless and insignificant? Did people forget that shipping is only fantasy and cannot actually harm anyone?

“bUt ThEyRe EnEmIeS!!1!1!” So? Shipping enemies isn’t new nor does it “erase” the original dynamic in the source material. It’s one of the most popular ship dynamics!

“iTs QuEeR eRaSuRe!!1!1!” No ship is as strong enough to overtake OG source material to erase anyone’s canon sexuality. Also, regarding Alastor, Aro-Ace is a spectrum. His canon sexuality shouldn’t affect anyone’s fantasy (because shipping is, again, just fantasy).

Never has any character’s canon sexuality stopped someone from creating fan material of their own ship and I don’t see why this “ship policing” is enforced in this fandom. Let us not forget, none of these characters are REAL! Queer representation doesn’t hang in the balance of how Hazbin characters are “properly shipped” amongst fans. If anyone’s ship bothers you, you don’t have to engage in it or support it. If you feel strongly enough to have to bully someone or call their art ugly because you don’t like it, go outside and start talking to real people. Please.

And my last note, coming from someone who is ace, who’s had a rough journey trying to figure out their own sexuality and struggled so long with labeling (because everyone’s obsessed with labels), STOP SPEAKING FOR US! Alastor’s canon Aro-Ace being tampered with among shippers doesn’t need to be your hill to die on!

So Harris Bomberguy has released a video about plagiarism on youtube. But really it's about talking about plagiarism on youtube as a groundwork to talk about James Somerton.

Who is a liar and a plagiarist, who has a sizeable audience and patreon who likes to portray himself as a small creator who is ~struggling~ and being bullied for ~being queer~ when in reality he's a very successful channel and he's being called out for being a liar and a plagiarist.

So he doesn't state what the accusations are, or who's accusing him, and he says "it was discussed a year ago" (Harry found plagiarization in multiple videos posted as recently as the last month), and from my memory the post a year ago was similarly vague on the accusations. I signed up for a VERY inexpensive patreon annual around that time due to the harassment he said he was getting, and because he implied it was because he was talking about queer shit, NOT about copyright and plagiarism.

Fics for Palestine! June!🖤❤️🤍💚

Hey Tumblr besties! We did a couple of fics and had some awesome donors in May so let's give it another go - it's a new update for June!

Do you want to support a good cause? Help Palestine and get a fic at the same time? Then please read!

I will write a fic for you with your chosen pairing and whatever prompt you want (it can be vague or specific!) and have it posted on Tumblr no later than June 30th!

All you need to do is send me same-day confirmation/a screenshot of either your receipt or sent email as a private message or in the ask box!

This is fundraising for Palestine, so you could donate to any fund or organisation on the Operation Olive Branch list, eSims for Gaza, UNRWA, Gaza Funds, Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and any other Palestinian fundraisers or organisations you want to support!

As we all have different currencies, all the go fund mes I've donated to have been in USD or Euros, so I'm going to keep this at the tier system is with whatever currency the fundraiser is in. If it is somewhere like UNRWA it can just be whatever your currency is 🥰

For emails, I've made this post on free ways to support Palestine and also this post encouraging American users to contact their senators. You can email your politicians asking for an immediate permanent ceasefire, an increase in UNRWA funding, creating and granting humanitarian visas for Palestinians, recognising Palestine as a state and withdrawing recognition of the state of Israel, placing sanctions on Israel that include economic and political sanctions and military embargo. If you need support with any emails, I'm happy to help! 🫶

What I'll write and won't:

I'll write fluff, smut, angst or any combination of your choice!

I can write plus-size readers, disabled readers, poc readers, fem readers, GN readers, keep it description-less, whatever your preference is! I'm bi/queer so I'm happy to write straight pairings or wlw/queer pairings and readers!

I'm just not comfortable and won't write fics that are non-consensual, 'dark', heavy kink, gore, vore, paedophilia, and nothing with under-18 readers or characters (this includes characters 'aged up' for a fic), or actor/celebrity x reader, just their fictional characters.

The Tier System!

If you donate $1 in the Fundraiser's Currency:

You will get a drabble/ficlet 100-500 words long with your prompt and chosen pairing that is posted no later than June 30th.

I know that places like the places like the Palestine Children's Relief Fund will let you donate $1 US but Go Fund Me has a $5 minimum donation for example and some other organisations might as well. But I know that there are content creators on social media like Yuval who are saying you can venmo/paypal them a $1 and they'll take those donations to a go fund me. So you can do that, send me a screenshot of the receipt and maybe just a link to the creator's page so we all know it's legit 🥰

If you write an email to a Politician:

You will get a fic that is at least 500+ words long with your prompt and chosen pairing that is posted no later than June 30th.

You just need to provide a screenshot that has the content of the email, is sent, and has the politician's email address/name visible. You of course can blur out any of your personal details and send this in PM. I'm happy to help draft emails, find resources as well if that's useful!

If you donate $5 in the fundraiser's currency:

You will get a fic that is at least 500+ words long with your prompt and chosen pairing that is posted no later than June 30th.

Just provide a screenshot that's confirmation of your donation.

I'm personally doing a few different $5 donations across different families and I know many are, if you're doing that you could send in different receipts which again could be different fics. And that would apply with other tiers as well!

If you donate $10 in the fundraiser's currency:

You will get a fic that is at least 1,500+ words long with your prompt and chosen pairing that is posted no later than June 30th.

Just provide a screenshot that's confirmation of your donation.

If you donate $20 in the fundraiser's currency:

You will get a fic that is at least 2,500+ words long with your prompt and chosen pairing that is posted no later than June 30th.

You will get a fic that is at least 7,000+ words long with your prompt and chosen pairing that is posted no later than June 30th.

Since October 2023, over 36,000 Palestinians have been murdered during Israel's genocide and illegal occupation of Palestine, this includes civilians, children, journalists, media personnel, and medical/healthcare personnel. Over 80,000 have been injured and so many Palestinians have been displaced and are trying to evacuate and cross the borders. Israel's ethnic cleansing, numerous war crimes, and colonisation have been terrorising the Palestinian people and land since 1948.

We all have a part to play, so donate if you can, attend rallies, protests, vigils etc, share the content and resources about Palestine, especially what comes from Palestine, make sure you're centring Palestinians and engaging with their content, engage with educational resources, watch and read Palestinian films and books, write to your politicians. We all have a part to play so please do whatever is financially and physically accessible to you x I'd also appreciate it if you could share this post as well! My blog is a much smaller platform compared to many in these communities, and if any other writers wanted to consider doing something similar to this, I'd encourage you to!
