ok so i just unlocked crimson phantom yakumo's last room and reblogged dozens of posts about him so now i'm here to try and put my thoughts down (sorry, it's long and not super coherent but . you know, that's just how these autism essays are sometimes)
like. ok. ok. first of all i managed to pull lakeside spark kuya a while ago and oh my god that was like. the softest, sweetest thing. and then here you have the soft sweet boy with the lurking "darkness" and . and . the PARALLELS?? im losing my mind
[intimacy room spoilers below for lakeside spark room 3, crimson phantom rooms 2 and 5]
kuya, whose introductory scene is trying to kill eiden, who is constantly referred to as devious and "a villain," whose whole brand is basically being a bit violent and fucked up and dangerous, slowly coming to trust and care for eiden to the point where he lets his guards down, listens carefully for things eiden likes during sex, and even falls asleep in his arms???? (i am still not over that. holy shit.) kuya who slowly but surely lets himself listen and care and be soft and learn what it feels like to trust others and be loved.
and now . holy shit. now we have yakumo's full character arc, the other side of the coin.
yakumo, who is so soft and timid and afraid of himself, who refuses to let himself do or say anything unsavory, who feels the need to constantly please others to make up for his existence, who feels that he will be abandoned at the first hint of showing his true self. yakumo who feels like a villain rather than acting like one. yakumo who is terrified that the people around him will realize that he is, and has always been, the very thing that kuya pretends to be.
...and, in the second crimson phantom room (and in the fourth homecoming room, I believe), it's shown that he's been treated that way, historically. it's a worldview that's supported by his experiences.
and I just . the way that both of these characters feel that their innate yokai nature is violent and shameful and inherently unpleasant for others. the way that kuya flaunts it while also hating himself for it and the way that yakumo suppresses and hides it away while....also hating himself for it.
the way that, through eiden's perception of them, they get to see themselves through the eyes of someone that understands and cares for them? and, consequently, how they learn to be loved, not just by eiden but by themselves? the way that they both learn to embrace their full selves and learn to trust and feel??
also the fact that they used the funky sex music that has up until now only been used for kuya's rooms (as far as I know anyway) for both of the crimson phantom rooms— especially with the contrast of the soft gentle music in the last lakeside spark room ????? aaaaa??????
and relatedly, the cinematic parallels in the camera angle and position and expressions?? between the 5th room of crimson phantom yakumo and the 5th room of kitsune dream kuya?? like hello???? i could go on about this forever

IT WAS ERIC AFTER ALL!!!! I'm so glad we got to meet him (before Vil snaps him away with those Infinity Gauntlets) (can't wait to see what happens when we get the matching Infinity Tiara to go with them, there will be no survivors)
(sorry to be so slow/rough lately, just got a lot of stuff on the ol' brain at the moment! alas, if only I could spend all my time drawing incredibly stupid characters I mean I do but)

right now i'm very torn between "taking critique is important as an artist and it's not an attack on me personally" and "people commenting about my same face syndrome under my posts upsets me an unreasonable amount and i wish they would stop doing it"

Hi! Quick question - when submitting propaganda, are we only submitting things from the movies in which are scrunglies are…y’know, scrungly? Like take Claude Rains for example, is he only restricted to gifs of him looking like a homeless dude in Moontide(1942) or can we submit like polished headshots or whatnot? Just thought I’d ask beforehand! I’m so stoked for this poll!!
The polls are about scrungliness, not hotness, so please submit propaganda that you feel conveys scrungliness. Generic hot photos won't be boosted because this is not a hot tournament.
With that said, please be considerate of how you're framing scrungliness. I'm going to post more about this tomorrow but some propaganda submissions had a troubling habit of conflating difference with scrungliness, and it really bothers me. Like in this ask—be careful about how you're throwing the word "homeless" in like it's shorthand for weird, ok? Being homeless is just...being homeless. It doesn't make you weird or strange and it shouldn't be used that way. The casual tone some of the submitted propaganda had toward class/race/disability has really bothered me and I'll post a longer discussion of this before the tournament starts.

It doesn’t rain in the Undercity.
It should. Perched as it is on the edge of the ocean, the Undercity – Zaun, Zaun, they call it Zaun now – should be thoroughly drenched every rainy season, rinsed clean by summer storms, but it’s not. True rain is a Piltie privilege, clean and crisp and cold, rolling in across the waves to wash along the orthogonal streets. In Piltover, rain is cleansing, collecting in neat little streams to run along neat little gutters, sweeping across the cobbles and disappearing down into concealed drains. Out of sight, out of mind. It’s a distinctly Piltovian process.
Down in the fissures, though, it doesn’t rain. It oozes. Water drips down from above and the air grows denser, hot and thick enough to chew on, raising the miasma from the sumps and the muck from the streets. Nights like this are why topsiders hide behind their rebreathers, but Vi hadn’t been a topsider long enough to lose her trencher’s lungs, and the parts of her that aren’t exhausted are relieved by the ooze. She’d only been properly rained on once, and that memory – oil and water, cupcake and what about us and anguished, ice-blue eyes boring into her back – is one that she will happily surrender to the oppressive humidity and the warm swirl of alcohol in her otherwise-empty stomach.
The heat is worse in the bar Vi’s dragged herself to, but it’s nowhere near as damp, and the janky, whining fans spinning lazily from the ceiling are circulating enough air to cool the sweat against her skin. Her entire body aches – she’d won her fights tonight, but not cleanly – but she’s been perched at the bar long enough that the pain is starting to fade under the warm buzz of cheap booze.
The ‘doctor’ that the arena keeps around had warned her that she probably had a concussion and she should definitely avoid alcohol, but he’s a lecherous idiot of a man who isn’t above encouraging his patients to pay his fees on their back, so Vi tends to ignore him. He’d only offered his ‘alternate payment option’ once with Vi, and had only survived the interaction because the arena manager had warned her that if she broke the medic, the cost of hiring a new one would be docked from her winnings.
Vi’s tankard is empty. It had been for a while, but she’s been drinking long enough that it’s not an immediate problem. Instead of raising her head to signal for a refill, she rolls the metal rim against the wood of the bar, watches as the grain seems to swirl and flow around the movements. The dance is near-hypnotic, and almost certainly a result of mixing a head injury with alcohol, but Vi’s past worrying about things like that.
It’ll work itself out, or it won’t, and in the meantime, the patterns are nice to watch.
continue on ao3

i feel like we don't talk about 'this band is back (Reggie's Jam)' enough.
how did it come about. was it a song they already had written, if so why. like, before they died they were at the 'peak of their careers'; why would they write a song about 'coming/being back' when they were still at the top.
this leads to my headcanon/theory:
they literally made it up on the spot. like they telepathically communicated the whole thing. because they were so in-tune with each other when they were alive that they could do that. it's why Luke looks to Alex and Reggie as much as he does. he's wanting to make sure they're picking up what he's putting down. i mean their instruments were so intrinsically part of them they could be summoned at will. so it stands to reason that they could do this with their thoughts/selves too.
the fact that it's parenthetically called 'Reggie's Jam' will always get me feeling some kind of way.
