I kind of want to learn (self teach) a language based on the most spoken language of some of my non-european genetic ancestry regions.
the only language remotely close to something i know would be Vietnamese since I've attempted East Asian languages before, but I'm pretty sure there's a lot of differences between it and Mandarin/Korean/Japanese

100 days of productivity !!
gonna try to do this so i can rly lock in™️ and have accountability over the next 4 months of my summer classes (which started today) !! everyday i'll share 1-5 goals/tasks i completed based around academics & self-care. as long as i do one thing each day to benefit myself that's all that matters !!
day 1 :
[completed] attended my first day of an online local indigenous-run course based around perspectives on reconciliation !! it went super well despite my intro being awkward lmao. i think my prof is super cool and one of my favourite indigenous teacher ed peers is in this course which is epic !! excited to start the readings
[completed] showered + made tea before class !!
[in-progress] gonna make my favourite meal (cheesy pasta w/ zucchini & carrot) for lunch rn and take a nap since i had shitty sleep last night
[will do later today] submit student loan forms & reply to emails from profs !!
[will do later today] decide whether i'm gonna drop the canadian history course or the environmental history course ! probably the canadian history since the readings are less interesting + i think the prof is more strict with grading lmaoo
[will do later today] update my notion pages for this term + upload the readings to goodnotes on my ipad

Happy Indigenous Heritage Month!!!!
Shoutout to my family's matrilineal matriarch for being Mvskoke and a huge "fuck you" to the Dawes Rolls for taking away that away from her and her descendants just because she was mixed
Also since this post was about honoring an ancestor: Happy Allhallowtide and Dia de los Muertos to those celebrating them!

i'm doing a poetry course and the ongoing topic is the harlem renaissance and black arts movement in general and idk there's smth so jarring that there's not a single black person in the entire team -- no black profs or TAs. nvm black, they're all white. i haven't seen a single poc in the entire department so far and idk it just irks me so much except i don't quite know how to articulate it.
i tried raising a concern abt it and just diversity in academia, in general, but i just keep being told that i'm making a mountain out of a molehill, that there isn't any racism or any lack of diversity. "it's simply a matter of skill. the prof didn't want poc on his team."
and like. these people keep fucking talking about black arts and racism and how black voices are often ignored and/or suppressed but at the same time they have a very... weird attitude abt it. i can't rly explain it rn and i probably will later, but it makes me uncomfortable. you take a movement such as the harlem renaissance and black arts and you refuse to let black ppl have a say in it?! you claim that it's simply a matter of skill and it just happened to be that it's only white people in the entire department skilled and qualified enough to teach the course?!
and the worst part is that for all that they linger on these poems and talk abt it, they rarely speak smth of value. they ramble and speak of difficulties that black ppl faced and still face, and i find it ironic that despite their apparent sensitivity to racial issues, they still don't let black ppl actually say shit or even be present in these discussions.
idk is the problem with me or smth??? is this actually the issue i think it is (lack of poc and racial diversity and too many white ppl speaking for poc but refusing to let poc have a word) or am i simply blowing things up?? i was told that my concern is an irrelevant one and that it's not racist, actually, and it's just that there are no black ppl and the ppl already teaching are perfectly competent
