"Resolution #1,003" by June Jordan
Tumblr media
I will love who loves me I will love as much as I am loved I will hate who hates me I will feel nothing for everyone oblivious to me I will stay indifferent to indifference I will live hostile to hostility I will make myself a passionate and eager lover in response to passionate and eager love
I will be nobody’s fool

dear black girl,
if i could capture the stars, id pluck one right out of the sky and place it in your heart so you’d be reminded that you are filled with brightness. id capture your tears in jars and pour them into the sea so you’ll know that your feelings expressed in these droplets weren’t in vain, but that they will be recycled for only beauty and life, to be the reason behind art and reproduction. your smile will be used in dark, barren tunnels to light the way to a better truth. id tell you that your eyes tell a story and when listened to, they have the power to inspire by sharing the very things you’ve felt you could never say. id give you a magnifying glass so that you may discover the map your ancestors left for you to explore , painted on your skin. continue to shake the world by letting your voice be heard, because when you speak, the earth quakes.
~k.

The Emancipation (I Get From Love) of Angie (12/30)
On this very day, nineteen years ago The artist of my life, Mariah Carey released what many consider her comeback album The Emancipation of Mimi on the very same day my best friend and twin flame, Angela Giaimo became emancipated from childhood.
I have never been very spiritual. I'm not Ace of Base; I struggle to see the signs. And I'm unsure what I believe about this universe but here are some things I know coincide:
Mariah Carey and Angela Giaimo are both Aries.
Neither Mariah Carey nor Angela Giaimo have middle names.
Mariah became my favorite artist primarily because of lyrics and Angela and I first bonded over us both being lyrics girlies.
Like Mariah, Angela is an amazing writer and musically inclined.
I tried to get my ex-best friend that I nicknamed "MiMi" to use The Emancipation of Mimi as the theme for her 18th birthday,  just two months after Angela's 18th.
That same ex-best friend betrayed Angela, and her treachery brought Angela and I closer  because I was on her side, the correct side.
I never knew Mariah's album came out on Angela's birthday until today, the number of years later that is the same as my favorite number.
When it comes to Angela, It has never been a question that our connection is inherent. I would not scoff at the concept of it being ancestral and supernatural. And while I have no mystical gifts that will tell me she is pregnant the way her brujería informed her of Saviour's impending arrival, I can sense that it's by more than chance that she's tattooed on my spirit. And why I love Angela Giaimo with my whole soul, even more than I love Mariah Carey.

Note 2 Self
Can you accept you for who you are Even if it’s not the worlds biggest star Tho u still shine like the sun U may be too bright for some But you’re still special It’s up to me to help you To see what I know is inside Though society’s pressure covers u like high tide Your mood like waves, eyes never dry U were beautiful before the filter Before false reality The real you is what u hide…

BOOK REVIEW
Dark Testament : Blackout Poems Crystal Simone Smith Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, Henry Holt and Co. (BYR) @macmillanusa
Tumblr media
With Dark Testament : Blackout Poems, Crystal Simone Smith shares the mourning and pain of a community, deeply wounded by unlawful killings and racism : Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, Michael Brown, Jordan Davis, Michelle Kenney, Daunte Wright, Aiyana Jones, Laquan McDonald, Rodney King, Sandra Bland, George Floyd, Walter Scott, or Breonna Taylor ; to only name a few of a very long, too long list. It is to them, and many others, that Smith’ s poems are dedicated.
In her poems, Crystal Simone Smith shares the voices of the Black Community and Black Lives Matters Movement. She shares the voices of the dead, but also the ones of the living. I have never read Black out poems before. They give a very unique perspective on the text, a poem within the poem with a totally new meaning. This collection of poems is beautiful, deep, and sad. It is a tribute to justice, truth, equality and love. It is definitively a book needed to be read and shared with the Community.

"crabbing" by Lucille Clifton

(the poet crab speaks)
pulling into their pots our wives our hapless children. crabbing they smile, meaning us i imagine, though our name is our best secret. this forward moving fingered thing inedible even to itself, how can it understand the sweet sacred meat of others?

He
Can not show his sadness
Can not show his regret of the unsaid words that shall remain unsaid forever
As the one who had to hear them shall not come back ever
He is indulged in burdens that were unknown to him till now.
The bitter truths, the unmasked faces of those who he thought were dear to him
All is shown to him as an Instant realisation
Of reality, of truth , of all the fears that were unknown to him
To keep the family safe
To keep the family fed
To keep a shelter above their heads
He shall have to face all waves of sadness, of fear of the world rather unknown to him till now. Alone.

Listen to the Ideas Podcast
Listen to the Ideas Podcast with Gene Andrew Jarrett who shares the story of a major poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872–1906), one of the first African American writers to garner international recognition in the wake of emancipation.
In his definitive biography, the first full-scale life of Dunbar in half a century, Gene Andrew Jarrett offers a revelatory account of a writer whose Gilded Age celebrity as the “poet laureate of his race” hid the private struggles of a man who, in the words of his famous poem, felt like a “caged bird” that sings.

Carry On The Dream - I had a dream last night of peace & prosperity I remember people use to question my integrity Wondering which side of the fence is going deep Shoveling my demons down to the pits so I won’t creep Hard times come more often than good I thought The enemy lurking to seek what souls can be bought MLK reminded me of his dreams of equality To drink from the same fountain of stability I want to wake up with equal paper that my white brother makes To share knowledge of excellence as we pass the dinner plates It can be hard to carry on with demons waiting for your downfall But I live to fight another day to speak and stand tall I’m tired of robbing Peter to pay Paul Because we need to work together or don’t fight at all My brothers & sisters why do we shame ourselves While other race work together to embrace themselves My brother treat yourself with dignity & respect a black Queen Because your mother release the pain for 9 months carrying you as she scream My sister treat yourself with respect Don’t make a mockery on a black Queen until he select You as a chosen woman in his life always and forever When God is talking to you better not say never say never Be wise as a serpent & humble as a dove is old saying With all my ancestors bleeding from whips & chains their praying To carry on the promise that needs to be fulfilled Carry on the bricks that holds a wall of success that was build Carry on a seed of legacy and honor to teach further lessons Carry on who you are to remain teachable in each sessions The dream is strong believe in yourself today To all demons from hell will be press down and slay Be wise and not foolish and don’t let life be lean Wake up to fight & carry on the dream - Dwayne Torres II #mlkday #poetry #blackpoetry #dream #carryon #peaceofmind #inspirationalquotes (at Richardson, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnepITcOwtm4vvn_xyCK7afBpCS6Dkp8kjeoSk0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
