So You Wanna See an Evolution Party? (V3)
The second they’d returned with Lady Lilligant, Akari had basically Extremespeed’d to the supply tent, leaving everyone else in the dust. Rei helped Arezu get her Noble to medbay, grumbling about Dewotts and priorities. Honestly, he didn’t see what the big deal was with this whole “evolution party” anyways.
Honestly, he’d rather rest up and heal. This whole thing was just… a lot to deal with. A whole lot to deal with. And being around the Dewott may only make things worse.
---
Akari was zipping around the supply hall, going back-and-forth to try and gather the supplies needed for the party. It was astonishing one hadn’t been planned yet, but there was a crisis afoot. That and these weren’t their natural forms, but. That’s no reason to cheat someone out of one of the most important days of their life!
“So...what’s the plan for when we get this all fixed?” Eh? Fixed? Wott?
“Honestly? Mainly getting rid of all these adaptations, and getting rationing reset.”
Hearing all this caused the Water-type to screech to a halt before she stumbled over another’s words. They weren’t seriously talking about...
“Heh, well. I’d kill to have arms again, if you ask me. Sucks that I have to ask for so much help.”
“Legends, that has to stink. I’m just glad I still have mine...” As the pair laughed and walked along, neither deigned to notice the slack-jawed Explorer. And, if she was of a clearer mind, she’d be thankful for that. But as it was, she had only one thing in her mind.
“Palkia, why didn’t I think of that...’
---
Rei grunted, working his forelegarm a bit. One good thing about these changes, Potions were far more useful. And if Akari was anything to go by, this wasn’t that bad a fate - Jubilife was adapting enough before she showed up, but once the Dewott had shown that life as a Pokemon didn’t have to be uncivilized things picked up pace.
On his way out, he passed by a Sliggoo’s bed, where the Rock-type Noble helped remove some shards of stone from his Warden’s goopy body. A small chuckle escaped the Raichu’s lips - another training accident, no doubt. The pair had been sparring a fair bit after both had gotten back to health, and he’d heard even Sabi was joining in. It made sense - while Sliggoo were blind, Goodra could see. Best to get that back sooner than later, even if they don’t know how long they’ll... be like this...
Eyes slowly went wide as implications went thru his head. Sweet Groudon, was that why?
---
*thump*
“OOF! Sorry about that Rei...”
“I-it’s alright, I wasn’t watching where I was going.” The duo slowly stood up, avoiding eye contact with the other.
Dust drifted upwards as paws shuffled. “So, umm... W-we don’t have to do the party.”
“I’m not sure where we cou-wait, what?” Embarrassment forgotten, the Electric-type’s eyes darted to look at the Mareepish Dewott.
“Y-yeah, I...I kinda was getting all into it, and forgot you guys. May not be staying this way.”
“I...umm. I actually realized that...”
“Wait, what?”
A small nod from the ‘chu. “Yeah, I...I know we want to go back to being human, but we don’t know how we’d do it... or when. So I guess indulging in something like an evolution party might not be that bad, especially if we...you know.”
“O-oh... I see.” Silence reigned over the pair, a small wind stirring up the dust and grass. “So, umm...”
huff...puff...
The sounds of exhaustion caused two pairs of ears to twitch, their owners turning over and down to look at the source: A small Growlithe, drenched and out of breath.
Both Surveyors immediately panicked, Akari reaching down to hold the poor thing. “What happened? Is everything ok? Why are you so wet?”
“A-Akari...that’s the young Lord.”
“Wott?” She turned to face her partner (...huh, guess he was!), eyes catching his fear-widened ones.
“He’s not yet taken the Trial yet, but he should be next in line... and Palina watches him like a Staraptor. For him to be here on his own - “
“Something would have to be very wrong...” A shudder overtook the Dewott as she looked back at the shaking canine.
Tears quivered under his bangs as that ruddy muzzle worked, trying to form words - and eventually managing to get something out. “P-please...help...h-help Momma...”
---
The two Explorers/Rescuers promptly rushed the runaway heir to the medical tent, where all attention was diverted to getting the dry and fed. Well, that and planning how to handle the Coastlands, since they had rocketed to the top of the “must-do” list.
(One does not just ignore a Noble’s request, alright?
Well, within reason.)
“What do you mean I can’t go?”
“You’re a Noble - well, Noble-to-be. You need to stay here with the others - we can’t risk you getting Frenzied.”
“But...”
“No ‘Buts’. Every other Noble we’ve met has been Frenzied, and we have no reason to believe you won’t be. Stay here.” And with that Rei walked off towards the Hall’s exit, Akari looking back worriedly before following.
The young Fire/Rock-type whined, head lowered. This wasn’t fair! Mommy and Other Daddy were stuck out there, and he couldn’t help! Yes, he was able to get them some help, but that was beside the point! He could actually help this time, so why wouldn’t they let him?!
He needed to find a way out to join up with them. Somehow.
...time to make use of all those times he’d snuck off to snag a treat early.

🌟 Dive into the Legends of Pokémon! 🌟
In the vast world of Pokémon, legends are more than just tales—they're the very fabric of the universe, weaving together stories of creation, power, and destiny. Join us as we journey through the annals of Pokémon lore and uncover the mesmerizing tales of five legendary Pokémon that have captured the imaginations of trainers across generations. 🔮✨
Arceus: The Creator Pokémon
At the heart of Sinnoh mythology lies Arceus, the mythical Pokémon believed to have shaped the world with its thousand arms. From its celestial origins to its role in creating the Legendary trio of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, Arceus symbolizes divine power and the genesis of all Pokémon life.
Mewtwo: The Genetic Experiment
Born from the ambitions of human science, Mewtwo stands as a testament to mankind's hubris. With its unmatched psychic abilities and existential struggle for identity, Mewtwo embodies the complex relationship between Pokémon and their creators, raising questions about ethics, identity, and the nature of consciousness.
Ho-Oh: The Phoenix of Johto
Ho-Oh reigns as a symbol of hope and renewal in the skies above Johto. With its dazzling plumage and mysterious origins, Ho-Oh is said to bring blessings to those who encounter it, inspiring hope and wonder in the hearts of all who gaze upon its majestic form.
Rayquaza: The Sky High Pokémon
High above the clouds, Rayquaza soars as the guardian of the Hoenn region, maintaining a balance between the primal forces of Kyogre and Groudon. With its mastery over the skies and fearsome power, Rayquaza embodies the raw elemental forces of nature and the enduring spirit of the land and sea.
Lugia: The Guardian of the Seas
Deep within the ocean's depths, Lugia dwells as the protector of the Whirl Islands, its Aeroblast attack capable of calming even the fiercest storms. With its serene presence and boundless wisdom, Lugia stands as a beacon of tranquility in a world filled with tumult and chaos.
Prepare to embark on a journey through the myths and legends that have shaped the Pokémon world, where every tale is a testament to the enduring power of friendship, courage, and the unbreakable bond between trainers and their Pokémon companions. 🌊🔥💫

The Ancient Ancestor Of Alder Is...? A Theory
In Ancient Hisui, verses are scattered around, telling tales of an ancient hero.
"No claws nor fangs, no strength to claim— no man could hope to hold his own to mighty Pokémon.
"But bolts of light rained down one day, ten times they fell, ten times struck true upon ten Pokémon.
"Then to weak man did these ten turn, his strength to be, and all were blessed by loyal Pokémon.
"Were not these bolts a gift to man? Were they not your almighty grace, great Sinnoh, paragon?"
–Old Verse#3
10 Pokemon seem to have surrounded the Hero at one point and, when all hope seemed lost, Great Sinnoh sent down bolts on the 10. These bolts seem to be the gift to this man as the 10 became his loyal companions for the days to come in what seems to be the battle for Celestica.
This Hero’s name is unknown to us, never seeming as anything more than an unnamed character for plot purposes. However, it is clear who it might be now as we continue forward.
In the image above, we see two. The ancient hero and a former leader of the Diamond Clan. Now, the DC leader seems to be Maxie from the Gen3 villain team, Team Magma. The Hero on the right looks a lot like Alder. Which okay, cool, Alder’s ancestor. So funny. I don’t think so though.
I think they’re the same man. It is just a bit too strange to me that the Hero ALSO has what appears to be Pokeballs around his neck. I think we have a Futurama case on our hands. Alder might very well be his own ancestor, given the circumstances.
This is given to the Player with information throughout the games but it’s much more than that.
There are only four cases of amnesia regarding Time/Space travel within the Pokemon universe. This is through one portal only but to go back, let’s review what we know about the game Legends: Arceus.
As we are aware, as the Player, we are sent on a mission trip from Poke-God! Arceus wants us to fix the troubles that are happening in Hisui, which may have been caused by Volo trying to play God himself. More on that in another post.
In the later update/DLC, Daybreak, the Player is given the option to say whether or not they do remember their past. I am among those who chose Yes but let me know what option you chose in the comments.
With this information, it could very well change the course of the Player’s life after all is said and done. As we are aware, the Player is actually stuck in Hisui for the rest of their life. There’s no ending that results in them going home and that doesn’t appear to ever be the case.
With this option, we are telling the universe that because Arceus guided us, we were granted safe passage through time.
With this in mind, I’m actually going to refer to my beloved Pokemon game series, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. In this game series, the Player is typically a human who was transformed into a Pokemon with no recollection of how that happened. In most cases, it is through the power of a legendary Pokemon! In the OG game, we’re never really given an explanation as to why the player was transformed other than, “It is your destiny to save us from disaster.” In Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, however, we learn that in protecting the partner in the dark world from an attack from someone trying to stop these would-be heroes, the power actually caused the Player to transform while traveling back in time and lose memories.
However, in a twist of events, the Player’s former partner is revealed to have retained ALL memories, as is one of the antagonists in the story.
Traveling through Space/Time doesn’t cause memory loss. It has been shown numerous times.
However, there is one case in which protective gear needs to be worn or the results could be catastrophic.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to present to you, Ingo.
This train man (whom of which my friend and I have realized that every character associated with trains in someway or form in the Pokemon Universe has their sideburns cut to represent the train of their hyper fixation choice) is the key to figuring out how Alder is the ancient hero.
Ingo is said to have fallen into Hisui sometime before the Player has. He has no memory of his past beyond his name. As The Player travels a bit with him, allegedly having a chitchat with him, he remembers bits and pieces but they feel more foggy and out of reach. He even makes a quip in his dialogue on how Sneasler climbing up rocks is a hidden move of hers.
"What am I saying? Hidden moves? There are no such things in Hisui, surely... Yet I feel as though I was on the cusp of remembering something just now... Just who was I before I came to Hisui?”
It is clear that amnesia is a big factor in Ingo’s character, but not the Player. Again, in Daybreak, the option of the player admitting they remember their time before Hisui opens up this thought.
Ingo, my friends, is what is categorized as a Faller.
Going back to my earlier statement. There are only FOUR known cases of amnesia in the Pokemon series. Ingo is our most recent.
Another case would actually be two famous agents that are always here to help the player but more or less turns into the player helping them.
Looker and Anabel.
Looker is actually well known as the agent of Interpol who just can’t seem to catch a break, at least from the perspective of the Player. While he is a well-established man, he kinda has a comedic effect to him throughout the story, disguising himself as Team Galactic grunts, struggling to speak other languages to people who genuinely are asking him for help, and constantly begging to get food after a completed mission but then seconds later disaster strikes in the Alola region. Kind of hilarious actually. It made me love his character more in the anime series.
Looker in ORAS is actually found on the beach with no memory. Nothing but an Audinite. This is very strange so let’s look at Anabel.
In Sun/Moon, we meet Anabel, who is an agent of Interpol. She is an ally of Looker and Nanu, The Cat Man from Alola. That we are aware of Anabel met Looker and Nanu after falling onto a beach with no memory. In the battles we see her in with this, we learn that her partner is an Audino. Strange.
Anabel was actually found by Looker and Nanu shortly after a young woman, another Faller, had died due to Interpol using this woman as bait for Ultra Beasts.
So, what is a Faller? Well, it’s someone that fell through an Ultra Wormhole. These Fallers are found by Interpol to effectively lure in these beasts which are practically interdimensional aliens. I mean, look at Buzzwole and Guzzlord! If you told me those were Pokemon as a nonPokemon fan, I’d think you’re confusing them with Digimon somehow! They legit just look like Digimon. Not hating actually. I love them; Buzzwole is my king and I love him in my old fighting type deck I had before SM era GX cards got banned.
But then, who is the fourth case? That, is Lillie’s father.
In the Alola series of games, Lusamine is effectively the villain, having opened wormholes to try and gain some semblance of happiness. It seems to be more in response to her husband having gone missing. We learn in the postgame that he has no memories. He actually visits Aether Paradise and introduces himself. Lusamine just sort of accepts that he’s forgotten her and found a happy life and only bids him a farewell in the end. It’s kinda sad really.
It almost makes me prefer the anime version better.
Actually no. It’s still weird.
Four cases in which Fallers exist in the Pokemon universe. In the games, the Player actually gets to travel via wormhole. How? Specialized suits that are meant to protect the Player.
With Ingo’s body worse for wear upon falling into Hisui, I can only come to one conclusion. Alder is his own ancestor, and he was with Ingo when the wormhole opened up.
Alder went back further and when faced with the hardships of Hisui, became a hero. He faced Pokemon in a way one could only imagine, given the guy’s personality overall.
"'Twas long ago he earned the name 'hero'...
"He led his retinue, ten Pokémon, against the almighty unknowable.
"In battle did his valiance proclaim at last the strength of humble humankind.
"The great unknowable approved this feat, and to its domain of no place returned."
–Old Verse #10
It’s clear Alder made an impact on the people of Hisui, given how he is honored in the homes of clan leaders.
With that in mind, is there a possibility of him having influenced the first designs of Pokeballs? I mean, what better way to honor the hero than to try and make these strange balls he had on him that seemed to have some strange power in them! This question will likely remain unanswered for the years to come.
Unless Dialga gets mad and goes Primal Dialga on us and we have to go into the past in order to protect the sunrise, but that’d be crazy.

Every game I played in 2022
I just thought it would be fun to write this out as a sort of recap. Oh, and the order is weird because I went through my favorites list on steam first, then just general "all". It made it a bit confusing I realize now, oh well. Also, I may have missed some. I don't remember every game played - I just went off memory and checked what I could. Sorry :c

Friday Special #14
March 19th, 2021
Hello friendos, and welcome back to another Friday Special!
So with the recent announcement of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for the Nintendo Switch as well as Pokemon Legends: Arceus, for this episode, we’ll be taking a look into the original titles of Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum for the DS and how they forever changed the Pokemon world.
The year is 2004.
The Pokemon movie Destiny Deoxys was just released in Japan and it’s the newest Pokemon movie to be released at that time. The Pokemon anime would still be in Gen 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald) for a few more years.
The film features a new Pokemon that was never seen before: Munchlax, who was the first revealed Pokemon for the next Generation, Gen 4 (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold, and Soulsilver).
Munchlax wasn’t the only Pokemon teased before Gen 4′s release, however.
That following year in 2005, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew was released and it prominently featured several new Pokemon to the gaming public such as Lucario, Weavile, Mime Jr., and Bonsly. This now was five new Pokemon revealed to the gaming public.
Then came 2006, the crunch year.
Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea was released and it introduced more new Pokemon in the forms of Mantyke, Buizel, Chatot and the Legendary Manaphy. Also revealed that year were the first of Gen 4 Legendaries Dialga and Palkia for the new games’ box art.
In the end, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were officially released in Japan on September 28, 2006, in North America on April 22, 2007, in Australia on June 21, 2007 and in Europe on June 27, 2007. Diamond and Pearl would also be the very first Pokemon games to be released in South Korea on Valentine’s Day in 2008, setting the precedent for future Pokemon games to be released in the region.
Diamond and Pearl were the first Pokemon games not only to begin a new Generation but also on a brand-new console, the Nintendo DS. In order to capitalize on the new system of choice and its capabilities, Diamond and Pearl were the very first Pokemon games to utilize 2.5D graphics (the effect can best be seen in various objects like buildings and the train in the Great Marsh in Pastoria City). Speaking of sprites, new and never-before-seen trainer sprites were added as well to ever-growing list of types of trainers. The list of Pokemon expanded as well, thanks to the addition of 107 new Pokemon exclusive to the Sinnoh region.
As the introduction goes for both games, you are greeted by Professor Rowan and you have the choice of either going as Lucas or Dawn, though the player does have the option to create their name for their chosen character. Their rival, Barry, also can be named by the player like in previous versions.
The game starts with your character watching a broadcast about Johto’s Lake of Rage and its elusive Red Gyarados. You then meet up at Barry’s house, who is also your best friend in addition to being your rival, and the pair go off to Lake Verity to search for Legendary Pokemon. There, you are greeted by Professor Rowan once more along with his assistant and they accidentally leave behind their briefcase and before the pair can retrieve it and return it properly, they are attacked by two random Starly and the player has to pick one out of three Pokemon to fight them with and succeed. Once the battle is concluded, the assistant comes back to retrieve the suitcase, aware of the Pokemon being used and leaves the pair with their new chosen companions. Back home, the player’s mother gives them a pair of Running Shoes to traverse faster across the land and instructs them to meet with the Pokemon Professor in Sandgem Town. Upon arriving, Prof. Rowan bestows upon you the Pokedex, sending you on a quest to retrieve data for the Pokedex of every Pokemon in Sinnoh.
Thus, the Adventure begins.
In the games, you face Battles, attain Gym Badges and work your way to defeating the Elite Four as well as the Pokemon League Champion. Along the way, you have to defeat Team Galactic, an evil organization who want to erase the entire universe in order to create a new, more perfect universe, and they need the power of the Legendaries in order to accomplish this massive and frightening goal. By defeating them, your home region of Sinnoh, and the universe at large, will be safe.
Some of the features to make a comeback in a newer fashion was the day/night system first introduced in Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, and Crystal), Pokemon Contests from Gen 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf-Green and Fire-Red) and even a new battle system which allowed for a more versatile set of moves for a Pokemon but ran into trouble with older fans as the attacks were now labeled as either physical or special instead of just by type alone.
The pair of games were met with commercial and critical success upon release with particular praise being given to the soundtrack, story, the inclusion of Wi-Fi, the voice chat function. Unfortunately, it landed criticism with the graphics with IGN being quoted as saying “everything still has that Game Boy look to it” (Which in retrospect made the games more appealing as they still appeared timeless without looking too dated). Famitsu gave it a 35 out of 40.
With this massive success, there was a growing need to continue the Generation.
In response, Game Freak created Pokemon Platinum, an enhanced version of the Diamond and Pearl.
Pokemon Platinum was released in Japan and Taiwan on September 13, 2008, in North America on March 22, 2009, in Australia on May 14, 2009, and in South Korea on July 2, 2009. Like its predecessors, it also received high praise, and was both commercially and critically successful.
There were a few notable differences between the original Diamond and Pearl versions and Platinum:
On the TV in Twinleaf Town, instead of a special about the Red Gyarados, the special instead talks about Prof. Rowan’s arrival back to Sinnoh from Kanto.
The outfits of the main characters change to be more suited to a colder environment.
Instead of recovering a suitcase in the forest and fighting Starly, you meet up with Prof. Rowan and receive your Pokemon at that time.
The sprites of important Trainers (like Gym Leaders or the Pokemon League) have their own individual animations like the Pokemon do.
Instead of facing either Dialga/Palkia depending on the version, your Legendary Battle will be with Giratina instead and it will be down in the Distortion World (more on that in a moment).
Platinum also expanded on previously introduced features such as:
Allowing up to 20 people at one time in the Wi-Fi Plaza (it was only a few people before)
Allowing your starter Pokemon to be admitted into Amity Square in Hearthrome City (in Diamond and Pearl, only a select number of “cute” Pokemon were considered)
Players can now challenge other Trainers in certain Pokemon Centers (first game in the mainline series to do this)
Faster animations with HM Moves such as Surf and during Battles
to name a few.
In regards to new Pokemon, 59 Pokemon were added to the Sinnoh Pokedex, rounding the number of entries to 210, including Legendary Pokemon. Legendary Pokemon like Shaymin were also added and other Pokemon like Rotom were enhanced either with new abilities or new forms.
So about that Distortion World bit from earlier...
For those unfamiliar, the Distortion World is only available in Platinum and it was how the player fought Giratina. The Distortion World level in particular was considered impressive at the time for the Pokemon community as it utilized 2.5D graphics that almost looked 3D.
How did they do this?
They allowed the character to move up walls in order to complete the current level as there were multiple levels.
Here is a video of the entire Distortion World walkthrough (the video is a little gritty as it was published way back in January of 2009 and it’s the original Japanese version):
At this time, this was considered insane for Pokemon in 2008/9 and it was one of Platinum’s biggest selling points. Although it may look a little dated with today’s newer titles, this the was bridge that connected GBA-styled graphics to more modern 3D ones.
So with that, Generation 4 was well underway and these games, as well as the ones that followed by the names of Heartgold and Soulsilver (a topic for another time), are still remembered fondly by fans to this day.
Thoughts From The Head
When I first got into Pokemon, I got into Pearl, making me a Gen 4 kid. I have very fond memories playing this game with my friends back in elementary school as they either had Pearl like I did or Diamond. When Platinum dropped, it was the hottest game to get on DS and I remember everyone and their mother clamoring to get a copy of it. I never did because I was broke at the time, so I wound up having enough to get a copy of Soulsilver, which I just rediscovered the Pokewalker (remember those?).
I remember the Distortion World bit like it was yesterday. A friend of mine had gotten far enough in the game to get to that point and I remember all of us crowding around behind him and glued to the screen as he traversed into this strange, new world.
We were blown away to say the least.
We also utilized the crap out of those Action Replay devices (which I used to max out both the Sinnoh and the International Pokedexes as well as the inventory), making the Champion Fight with Cynthia almost a breeze with the maxed out Rare Candies we had to boost the levels to Level 100 for the entire party. Now a couple friends of mine had managed to even hack the Platinum game to not get the special event Pokemon like Shaymin and Arceus without the special event in question, they were even able to clone Pokemon as well as steal other Trainers’ Pokemon outright with no issues (still not sure how they pulled those off).
Thanks to the announcements of the Gen 4 remasters and a mutual of mine playing Pokemon Diamond for a YouTube stream via Desmune emulator, I rediscovered my Pearl game and now I’m currently playing my second run! As of this post, I am about to take on Fantine of Hearthrome City so wish me luck!
Here’s the photos of my copy of Pearl!
I was in the process of leveling up my Chatot so she ain’t looking too good right now.
So do y’all think about all of this? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Thank you for reading!

So ya wanna see an Evolution Party? (V2)
The second they’d returned with Lady Lilligant, Akari had basically Extremespeed’d to the supply tent, leaving everyone else in the dust. Rei helped Arezu get her Noble to medbay, grumbling about Dewotts and priorities. Honestly, he didn’t see what the big deal was with this whole “evolution party” anyway.
Honestly, he’d rather rest up and heal. This whole thing was just… a lot to deal with. A whole lot to deal with. And being around the Dewott may only make things worse.
---
Akari was zipping around the supply hall, going back and forth to try and gather the supplies needed for the party.
“Heh, well. I’d kill to have arms again if you ask me. Sucks that I have to ask for so much help.”
“Legends, that has to suck. I’m just glad I still have mine...” As the pair laughed and walked along, neither deigned to notice the slack-jawed Explorer. And, if she was of a clearer mind, she’d be thankful for that. But as it was, she had only one thing in her mind.
‘Legends, why didn’t I think of that...’
---
Rei grunted, working his ~~foreleg~~arm a bit. One good thing about these changes, Potions were far more useful. And if Akari was anything to go by, this wasn’t that bad a fate - Jubilife was adapting enough before she showed up, but once the Dewott had shown that life as a Pokemon didn’t have to be uncivilized things picked up the pace.
Best to get that back sooner rather than later, even if they don’t know how long they’ll... be like this...
Eyes slowly went wide as implications went through his head. Sweet Groudon, was that why?
---
*thump*
“OOF! Sorry about that Rei...”
“I-it’s alright, I wasn’t watching where I was going.” The duo slowly stood up, avoiding eye contact with each other.
“I...umm. I actually realized that just now...”

“My apologies, but I require you to change tracks and connect with mine immediately.”
Confusion gave way to shock as the pair were gripped by the scruffs of their necks, dragged along by red claws. Eyes turned to their captor - an Express Master by the name of Emmett, smile wider and tenser than ever before. Akari took the initiative. “Umm, Emmet? What’s going on?”
“I have been informed that my brother and fellow Express Master, Ingo, was in one of the Mystery Dungeons when it formed.” Rei’s eyes widened at the name.
“Wait, you know Warden Ingo?”
“That is a matter of discussion for another station. For now, I am lifting my embargo on Dungeon exploration to proceed on this new track I have found.”
“But-”
“No buts. We are proceeding apace. As my brother would say, ALL ABOARD!!!”
Rattling ears shook out any sense of control the younger Explorers may have had. They were heading for the Coronet Highlands...
Whether they liked it or not.

Pokerus AU: Horror-Lite Version
I have more-or-less fallen in love with @monsoon-of-art’s Pokerus AU, with one exception...
The mass feralization.
I do enjoy that it’s eventually reversed, but I admit all that darkness? Not quite my cuppa tea. The part before that, where everyone’s fully changed physically but more-or-less unaffected mentally, is my favorite...
And then I realized that the Frenzy, in PLA canon, isn’t crazy-widespread as it was in the Pokerus AU. And I could work with that.
Thus, the Horror-Lite Version (name tentative) was born!
The core idea of it is, like the normal Pokerus AU, the distortions have an effect on humans, changing them into Pokemon. But unlike the Pokerus AU, it still sends Pokemon into a frenzy. The Noble Pokemon still have to be calmed with Balms and battles, but so do their Wardens.
...what, did you think I was going to remove the Feral angle entirely? Heck no - if the distortion can drive any Alpha and Noble mad, I see no reason why it can’t do the same to a fully transformed human (or heck, even a normal Pokemon that’s particularly unlucky).
Outside of that, it’d more-or-less follow the general plot of PLA, with the exception of the Ride Pokemon also being vulnerable to Frenzying. The final part of the main story - from the player’s exile to the credits - is also up for change, since the situation could be VASTLY different (also, Kamado is being a jerk. A logical jerk, but still a jerk).
As for why the portals have an effect on both species? Well, that’s admittedly in the works, but my operating theory is that at least SOME of them don’t connect to the “present” Pokémon world. Instead, they connect to the PMD world - a world where humans don’t really exist. I’d say they all connect to the PMD world, but we have to account for Ingo somehow.
I’m not sure about reversion after the final battle - while any remaining instances of Frenzy/Feral would be cleared, I’m not sure about turning everyone human again... thinking not though? Yes I’m a weird one. And who knows, maybe some revert but not EVERYONE. It’s up in the air!

In Which Pieces Come Together
[Inspired by @monsoon-of-art's Pokerus AU]
The trip back to Jubilife Village had been...interesting. Namely, for the distinct silence from Lord Braivary and Warden Sabi. Akari looked back, finding the pair’s shared glances cute - although the shared smirks were somewhat worrying. But as they got back to town and gone to bed, the Dewott brushed it off. Surely it wasn’t THAT big a worry, was it?
She was regretting those thoughts now that she was running through town like a mad’mon, Warden chasing her with strange half-and-half orbs. Those things had sucked Akari in once, but she’d gotten free. It wasn’t gonna happen again if she could help it!
“OOOH YOU AIN’T GETTING AWAY THIS TIME MISS SHINY DEWOTT!!” Oh, and apparently they’d dyed her leg fur light purple. For...some reason.
Of course, her thoughts were curtailed when a gust of wind kicked up, Lord Braivary descending. A few townsfolk knelt or bowed, while the sane ones - like Akari - noticed he had more of those suction spheres in his psychic grip. The wide grin on his face was all the young Explorer had to see before moving to dart down an alleyway. “Oh Akari~ We’ve got presents for you~” And of course the bird was in on this too. Of course.
Well, regret not picking up the signals before. Keep dodging and weaving between telekinetically-lobbed balls for now. In and out, back and forth... y’know, this would be great training if she wasn’t terrified of getting Hoovered up (not that she’d tell anyo-)
*dink*
“...Distortion take me.” Not the most famous last words, but then again it was just getting sucked up and not, well, dead.
---
Rei (along with everyone in the Medical Corps) couldn’t help but burst out into laughter when Sabi returned to the Medical Corps tent, jumping into a pose with a Pokeball in hand. “Dewott Get!”
*da da da doo!* Odd sound for Lord Braivary to make, but really it just sent everyone into more hysterics. The ‘ball shook in response, which its wielder took as a cue to open it.
Akari re-appeared in a beam of energy, stumbling and blinking. “Wooogh... That was...not fun...” She plopped her faux-Shiny rear on the floor, unable to really stand as she swayed to and fro.
Rei approached, chuckling. “So they caught you, eh? Guess they were bound to land a Pokeball on you sooner than later.” He snickered, not noticing the dawning horror on Akari’s face.
“...pokeball?”
It was so soft it came out like a whisper. Confused, the ‘chu looked Akari in the eye - and stepped back, seeing the look of pure horror on her face.
“That...no. No no no no.” And she was panicking. What was wrong? “ There is no way that was a Pokeball. You guys wouldn’t lock me up like that, right? Right!?!” The sheer volume and fear in Akari’s exclamation made everyone step back.
“L-lock up...?” Rei stammered out.
The Dewott shuddered and nodded. “Y-yeah... Momma said that the meanest ‘mon get locked up in ‘balls, lucky to see light a few minutes a day...
UFF!”
Without warning, the Water-Type was bowled over by a Fire-/Psychic-Type, Sabi hugging Akari within an inch of the latter’s life. “I’m sorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msorryI’msor...”
The stream of apologies kept flowing, the Dewott’s features turning from scared to befuddled as the Magby cried her heart out. “I-I hadn’t seen you being scared... just...just how to get you with the ‘ball...I’m sorry...”
The Dewott numbly patted the Magby on the back as Rei’s brain was able to get past the pile of emotions to Akari’s tale. He’d been intentionally ignoring his “partner’s”...quirks...ever since they’d met. But this whole debacle thrust them back into the spotlight - and he had questions to ask. Questions he really didn’t want to ask.
...he could wait until everyone had calmed down. Well and truly calmed down. No reason to rush, especially with Akari and Sabi’s current states.
-----
Several hours later, whilst eating at the Wallflower (along with a lot of other Galaxy Team members), Rei took his shot. “So...Akari.”
“Hmm?” She turned to him, mouth full of potato mochi. Another thing for the “Akari wasn’t transformed” list... oh he wasn’t looking forwards to this.
Maybe he should start small. “You never did tell us where you came from.”
*chew* *chew* *GULP!* “Oh. Well, I came here from Lively Town, but I was born and raised in Serene Village.”
“Y-you actually came from a town?!”
“Yesss?” She tilted her head, eyes narrowing as Rei realized he’d said that out loud. Whoops!
Still, that was a point in the “was transformed” column. “Um, what was it like there?”
“Lively Town? Eh, not that different from most other places. Admittedly, I only went there to join on a Exploration Team.”
“...you’ve mentioned that a few times. What is an Exploration Team?”
“Oh! An Exploration Team is technically any Guild-recognized group of Pokemon that go delving in Mystery Dungeons.” And a point for “wasn’t transformed”. “I was...more a trainee, than anything. Didn’t have any official team to call my own... I was actually coming back from my first solo mission before I fell down on...what was it called? Prologue Beach?”
“Prelude Beach.”
“Ah, thanks.” As Akari moved to keep speaking, Rei opened his mouth to try and interject. Then he saw the glimmer in Akari’s eyes.
It was the same kind of glimmer some people had on Galaxy Team. The people who joined purely because it had been their dream to see new places. The ones who would ramble at length at their experiences.
...Rei shut his mouth. Far be it from him to interrupt a girl discussing her passion. “So there’s two types of Exploration Teams, divided mainly by what they do. Expedition Teams are the ones who go check and see if a new Mystery Dungeon has popped up, and delve into it to try and get as much information as they can, so the brainy types can go over it and all. The other type are Rescue Teams - they’re the ones who go in and rescue ‘mon who’ve wandered into a Dungeon and been trapped.” The grin on Akari’s face was the widest he’d seen (barring Mr. Emmet, but his smile seemed a bit...abnormal. This was pure, natural joy). “Kinda like what we’ve been doing.”
“I...yeah, it kinda is, isn’t it?” Rei took another bite of mochi, thinking. “And Survey Corps... it’s kinda like the Exploration Teams, I guess.”
“Wait, really?” Akari leaned in, stars in her eyes.
The ‘chu leaned back at the sudden invasion of his personal space, thankful for Captain Cyllene coughing and drawing attention to her. “Rei is...probably correct. While I’m not exactly sure what an Exploration Team does and how it operates, the job of the Survey Corps is to go out into places unknown and gather information. Why, Galaxy Team itself was formed from people outside of Hisui who wanted to see if the land was fit for settling. Heh...I suppose as it is now, human settlement is quite impossible, what with the rift’s apparent need to convert people into Pokemon.”
“Huh...” The Water-type nodded, seeming to accept the explanation - before blinking. “...what’s a human look like, anyways?”
----
The Wallflower’s diners used Eruption! It was super-effective.
---
Questions flew as the Dewott was dragged into the swarm of curiosity and confusion. Rei, for his part, just sat there with his mouth open. Akari... didn’t know what a human looked like. That basically proved his theory - that she was originally a Pokemon. But...her home was a town? And apparently there were many more like it?
...maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing after all. If what she said was true, then that meant that Pokemon could either use the ruins of civilization that man had left, or maybe even make their own...
He’d have to ask about it later. The poor thing was being bombarded with a trillion questions right now, and he didn’t want to add to the pile.
Especially since it looked like she was on the verg-yup. She’d Fainted.
