hermann pining after newt is my favourite because he's so unnecessarily tortured about it. he suffers. he yearns. he is by turns ashamed of and disgusted by his own feelings. desperate tragic longing fills his heart, and yet he dares not speak on the matter, for newton evidently doesn't reciprocate. it is agony.

and it's all for a guy who wears godzilla print underwear, regularly plays air guitar in the shower, and once said retroviral DNA integration was, quote, "punk rock."

Sasha using the title "Lord" in RiAAU after taking over Toad Tower and presumably killing Grime and stealing Barrel's Warhammer from him, and other political and military leaders assuming she's a man because, well, Sasha is a gender neutral name, so they hear Lord Sasha and assume they're talking about an adult male toad warrior. The second most powerful person in the known world and only real threat to the Leviathan reign!

Cue princess Marcy fleeing Newtopia and her father seeking refuge with his worst enemy hoping to offer information and political levarage in exchange for protection, perhaps even offering herself in marriage to transfer eventual inheritances and whatnot, and she finds out that Lord Sasha is not, indeed, a dark and domineering toad warlord, but a beautiful, terrifying girl her age that looks like her and oh god her poor little lesbian heart can barely take it.

Newt being the ‘therapist friend’ and listening to everyone’s problems so much to the point that when Thomas asked him one day if he was okay, he freaked out and didn’t know how to answer because he wasn’t used to people checking on him. Example:

Newt: *zoned out*

Thomas: hey, are you okay?

Newt: what? Why does that matter?

Thomas: because we’re friends and I want to know if you’re alright

Newt: wait..you care..about my feelings. Like actually

Thomas: um yes??

Newt: oh wow. Um I’m ok. I don’t know

The Box Jail—An Imagine

Imagine Kid Theseus was hiding in a cardboard box. The Scamander parents brought Baby Newt to the room the box was in and playfully asked him where Theseus was. They led him to the box, opened it, and Theseus stuck his head out and smiled at Newt as their parents said, “There’s Theseus!”

Newt smiled excitedly at his big brother. Then he happily looked at their parents, then back at Theseus.

Theseus reached out for Newt and pulled him into the box, wanting to play with him. But when he put Newt in his lap, Newt started to cry. He tried to comfort Newt but to no avail.

No one understood what was wrong at first, but then Mrs. Scamander thought maybe Newt felt trapped by the box. So Theseus lifted Newt out of the “jail” and set him down.

“Got a little claustrophobic, huh?” Mr. Scamander asked gently as he and his wife came closer to Newt to comfort him.

Newt turned around and looked at the box, then up at Theseus sadly, tears beginning to stream down the baby’s face as he cried. Theseus realized Newt thought the box was jailing Theseus, too. The older boy’s heart tore in two.

“No, Newt! It’s okay,” he tried. “I’m alright.”

Theseus then got out of the box, and Newt angrily shoved it away. Then the baby started sobbing heartbrokenly. He turned around and walked towards his big brother. Theseus held his arms out, and Newt walked until he was within reach of them. Theseus picked up his crying brother and hugged him.

“It’s alright,” Theseus said tenderly. “It’s just a box. It didn’t trap me. I’m alright.”

The baby leaned his head against Theseus’s shoulder, sobbing.

“I’m alright.”

When Newt eventually calmed down, Theseus pulled Newt in front of him and smiled kindly at his little brother.

“Thank you for being concerned about me. I really appreciate it,” Theseus said gently.

Newt sniffled once, and Theseus adjusted his hold on Newt and wiped Newt’s tears away. Then the older brother gave him a quick peck on the cheek and playfully smiled at him. Newt was quiet. Then Theseus gave the baby another quick peck on the other cheek. Newt’s lips curled into a small smile. Theseus gave him a fast kiss on the forehead, and Newt giggled and buried his head onto his big brother’s shoulder. Theseus hugged him, smiling. He kissed Newt on the back of Newt’s head.

Lukey is a hobbyist painter. He is particularly fond of urban landscapes, skies, flower close-ups, and the occasional portrait. He sells little prints in the flower shop, but Aimsey has recently started letting him display his work in the cafe, as well, which has boosted his sales a lot! Wow!

This of course has nothing to do with one inked up patron in particular buying a copy of every new print available. Lukey has yet to notice.

Aimsey wonders if Lukey has noticed and is just ignoring it. Closeted men are fucking weird like that Newt, meanwhile, wonders if Lucas notices how often he doodles Pangi's scarred up hands on the scrapped flower wrapping paper...

The saddest part of this au has to be Newt, who has been with Lukey since they were children and who owns a business and shares an apartment with Lukey and who subconsciously had an entire life planned with Lukey, slowly realizing that maybe he’s watching the man he’s basically dedicated his life to dedicating his life to someone else

But what kind of friend would he be if he didn’t tip Pangi off every time a new print was about to be put up for sale? Or that Lukey’s favorite flower is the lily of the valley? Or that he likes cheesy pop music and that he’s uncomfortable around open flames so Pangi should be more careful with his candlelit dinner plans and that Lukey loves animals and would probably consider a trip to a cat cafe a perfect date and to be careful mentioning parents or family around him and-

imo a core part of the newmann dynamic is like... you've got these two very very intelligent people who have spent most of their lives being Smartest Guy In The Room. which feels great! but also, it's very hard to form close and trusting relationships when everyone else sees you as Smartest Guy In The Room. and if you maybe don't have great social skills to begin with, you can't figure out how to compensate. and it's hard to build up solid self-esteem when the only thing people value you for is your intelligence, and a lot of them resent you for that, too. so really it is very very lonely.

and then they meet! and neither of them is the smartest guy in the room anymore! and that is both EXHILIRATING (omg! someone who gets me!) and TERRIFYING (the fragile pillar i built my whole self-esteem on is crumbling! help!).

they do NOT know how to cope with this. best they can do is being obsessed with each other.
