It was just supposed to be a fairly simple time travel mission (or as simple as time travel can be anyway) for Peter. He'd be in close range of pre-Iron Man Mr. Stark at some high end party but he honestly didn't think anything of it. Peter wasn't someone who had to go out of his way to be under the radar, he wasn't noteworthy. He was beneath notice. But Mr. Stark did notice him. Peter didn't know how he had inadvertently caught the eye of his not-a-hero-yet mentor but suddenly his mission became sidetracked as he found himself unable to escape Mr. Stark's attentions. "And who are you?" "Uh, Peter P... Reilly. Peter Reilly, Mr. Stark, sir." "I'd say to call me Tony but I gotta admit, I like the way you say my name. Come dance with me?" “You have to promise me,” Peter said, or well, repeated, unwilling to drop the topic of his upcoming birthday and the secrets and surprises Tony kept around the matter.

His boyfriend looked at him from over his cup of coffee, like not believing Peter could hold up the same conversation for more than ten minutes. Tony took his sweet time to take a sip from the liquid delicatessen from the café they had gone to have a date on that afternoon, one Peter had chosen himself. “I don’t have to—”

Peter looked at him fondly, something he knew very well was capable of making Tony stop ditching a conversation and actually consider what he was going to say about it.

“Okay, alright,” Tony left the cup on the table and held up his hands in a defensive position. “I promise you.”

“You promise what, exactly?” Peter questioned, playing with some fries and trying his best not to let his lips curl up as it has been easier to get Tony to say those words than he had hoped for at first.

Tony sighed, and then he chuckled. “I promise not to organize any surprise parties for your twenty-two birthday.”

Waking up in the lakehouse is exactly what Peter needs. It has more benefits than his apartment in Boston, and it’s the holidays, a perfect time to get away. | peter parker/harley kenner

It’s cold outside, which is because of the winter holidays, Peter is sure there is snow but to actually know that he would have to wake up and move away from the excellent, warm, comfort he has found in his bed. His bed at the lakehouse, his (third?) home.  

Peter ultimately prefers the lake house, it is quiet compared to Boston, and New York has always been his home even if he isn’t in Queen’s anymore. Just out of New York, the lakehouse allows for quiet and a small working farm that Gerald likes to eat from, a perfect match. 

The lakehouse also comes with some added benefits that his apartment in Boston doesn’t have. 

“Peteeer,” Morgan whines from the bottom of Peter’s lake house bed, she’s adorable and Peter’s little sister, but it’s not really the best noise to wake up to, “Harrrrleeeeyyy,” but hearing his boyfriend's name along with his does bring a small smile to his face.  

He can hear Pepper’s laugh from the doorway, the laugh that he has come to love after not hearing it for 5 years, “Morgan I think the boys are still jet lagged from their flight last night, let them sleep.” Peter thanks the gods that put Pepper Potts in this world because she just gets it, she lets them sleep when needed and still forces them to participate when necessary, it is a great balance. Especially when it comes to Stark Industries' work. 

The frown on Morgan’s face can be heard by the two boys waking up slowly, holding on to each other, because they know the little girl better than herself. She squints, “But Daddy said they were here so they can play pebbles with me,” Harley giggles from the bed. Pepper shoots them both a look that Peter catches but shakes his head at, Morgan much too interested in her mum (and her dad being in trouble) doesn’t notice. 

Pepper bites her tongue, not knowing if she will laugh or berate when she finally comes up with her comeback, “Did he?” She asks, to Morgan’s continuous nodding, Tony should be proud of his honest daughter. 

Both boys know for sure that Tony is in trouble from the sound of Pepper turning around and heading out of the bedroom, little feet following closely. Knowing they’re gone leaves Harley and Peter to burst out into loud laughter. The laughter that they are sure Morgan can hear, but is much to focus on her dad being told off to care. 

“You feel like throwing some pebbles today,” Harley asks Peter turning to lie so they are facing each other. Pepper is right, they are jet lagged and they only touched down at 10 pm last night, but they are both MIT students who aren’t aware of what a bedtime is and so the small tiredness they feel doesn’t seem that extreme.  

Peter smiles holding onto Harley, prepared for the day, “sounds like a great day.”  

The lakehouse is perfect for Peter, it has a lake they can skip pebbles across and a great family to go with it, a brilliant selling point.

Peter Parker is an adorable, intelligent six-year-old, learning about emotional intelligence and the magic of clapping your hands. Bucky Barens still doesn't 'fit' into the tower.

Peter Rhodes is only 6 years old, but he is incredibly intelligent. Some would call him a baby genius, much like they used to describe one of his fathers. Unlike Tony Stark, the father in question, Peter pays much closer attention to the people around him. 

“Dad,” He asks inquisitively, sitting at the kitchen counter one night, the colouring-in sheet assigned for homework slowly being completed as, James Rhodes, Peter’s other father, cooks dinner for the night, steak and potatoes. Peter sighs loudly placing down his crayons, “Is Mr Barnes sad?” Peter asks a question that has obviously been stewing the majority of the day.

It is unexpected to Rhodey as he drops the smile on his face as the wooden spoon in his hand drops to the floor hitting his big toe. The older man has to bite his tongue to not let the words he actually wants to come out of his mouth, instead taking one, large, calming breath. Peter scrunches up his nose at the loud sound and the way his father responded to the question, collecting context clues that it might not have been the right thing to ask. 

Rhodey takes his time, the same way he and Tony have taught Peter to do in tough situations, before speaking, “Mr Barnes is in a new environment, Pete, it is just taking him a bit more time to adjust than we all expected.” This is the understatement of the century, no matter what Tony or Rhodey had done Bucky just didn’t feel at home in the tower, and couldn’t take the care they were offering. Shrugging Rhodey attempts to make it easier for Peter to understand without sugarcoating it, something that his intelligent son would see all the way through, “Remember how you felt about moving to school from kindergarten, that’s how Mr Barnes feels about the tower, it’s like moving into a new home for him.”  Peter seems to understand nodding and going back to his colouring. 

After some drawing is completed Peter thinks again about Mr Barnes moving into a new home, “we should invite Mr Barnes for mac and cheese. Dad tells the story all the time about how you made him mac and cheese on your first night in the tower and that made him feel more at home, maybe it could do the same thing for Mr Barnes.” Rhodey could not be more proud of this kid, his kid, their kid.  

He smiles finishing up dinner for the night, “that sounds great Pete,” he tells his son, finishing up the plates and slowly moving the food over to the kitchen table, “how about you go get Dad and we can talk about it all together.” Peter is quick to scramble, running towards his dad’s study excited for the possibilities and his idea. Rhodey just laughs, smiling large, because somewhere along the way they did something right with Peter.

Bucky Barnes is aware that Peter Rhodes is an intelligent kid, he sees the genes of Howard Stark in him despite having no biological Stark blood. The kid has awards all throughout the tower for different things and there are magazine articles that his parents have proudly framed as important. Yet the kid isn’t spoilt and is intrinsically kind, someone his Ma would tell him he should be friends with. He also reminds Bucky shockingly of Steve.

Peter is the reason that Bucky, Steve and Sam are now all sitting at the family dinner table in the penthouse suite, eating macaroni and cheese for dinner, a staple from the south Rhodey and Sam both insist on eating as dinner food. 

The discussion around the dinner table is nice, very subtle and doesn’t touch any points of annoyance for any superhero at the table. It is just pleasant. It is just hard for Bucky to get used to, after being alone for so long, keeping up shorthand conversation was never really a priority. 

Without recognising Peter is holding Bucky’s hands, much to the shock of Bucky, clapping them for him. It disturbs the adult conversation happening at the table. Everyone’s eyes are wide, “Miss Lou, taught us that if your sad and you know it you should clap your hands,” Peter explains clapping Bucky’s hands twice to the tune of ‘If your happy and you know it clap your hands’. 

Shockingly it brings a smile to Bucky’s face, laughing out loud, which makes Peter join in, both of them clapping their hands together in time to the music Peter is humming.  

Peter’s reasoning is incredibly impressive as in class they are learning about emotional intelligence, something some adults need to go back to school and relearn. Bucky Barnes recognises that he needs to do this, that learning to be loved isn’t such a bad thing. Soon enough everybody is joining in clapping, singing, and humming the tune. 

“Thanks, kid,” Bucky smiles ruffling up Peter's hair. 

Peter Rhodes is incredibly intelligent, not for all the awards and news articles, but for his emotional intelligence (which he is still learning about, so don’t get mad at him for drawing conclusions instead of homework).

A/N: I have felt uncreative this week and once upon a time it was suggested to me to just shuffle a playlist and create a work for the first song that pops up. This bingo is the bingo for me, it is right up my alley, it's my favourite character, and there is so much fluff, and it's great! Peter Parker is just different, maybe because he's young, or just because he's Spider-Man and Spider-Man has meant something to me. I really loved creating for this and hope to create more in the future.

The bodega on the corner of Queen’s is on the way home from Midtown High, the coffee shop is two streets over. 

If a pick-me-up is needed the bodega offers food that I can be brought home and cooked for dinner, but the coffee shop offers sweet treats and drinks that have far too much sugar in them for an arachnid. 

The bodega is a shop, the coffee shop only offers coffee and treats. 

When studying is required for an upcoming test the coffeeshop is quieter and not many strangers will wish you a good day, the bodega will be loud and strangers will encourage you to do your best work while distracting you at the same time, despite saying “ I won’t distract you anymore, Cara.” (Which means dear and is very nice to hear once and awhile). 

Coffee from the bodega is straight black and bitter, but the handmade rolled, squished-down flat, sandwiches make up for it. The coffee shop is the opposite their coffee is sweet and drinkable while their sandwiches are questionable. 

People know you at the Bodega is they are strangers or not, it is the epitome of the 5 connections diagram. In the coffee shop, you may see the same people but you don’t know them, except for the nice barista who will add a maple cookie with every drink order once finding out you were allergic to peppermint.

Both places feel similar to family just in different ways. 

At the coffee shop, they care about the paper they know you were slaving over last week, 4 coffees deep, the bodega care about your weight and will tell you are too thin and give you extra pasta ingredients. 

You could win the lucky lotto number only at the bodega. 

The coffee shop tries to be elegant Italian whereas the bodega is real Italian and Spanish mixed to make beautiful pasta and sweets pairings. They are both great but only at the bodega will you get comprehensive Italian lessons and support on the latest Spanish assignment. 

The bodega owner is nice and will show you all the things he is working on to improve the shop, and he doesn’t wear a name badge because he believes being able to learn names is more important than knowing them. 

They both sell great different versions of breakfast. 

The barista at the coffee shop (who is the OWNER!) is named Stephen and taught himself to make coffees to deal with his oncoming arthritis, and because he wanted to impress a guy in college. 

They both wear wedding bands and are in nice marriages where they are fond of their partner but don’t feel bad complaining about their newest mess up. 

They will both make you feel like you have a dad. (Cross that one out Peter, it is not that important). 

Sometimes it is almost as if they talk about each other, Tony (the Bodega owner) will say that his husband brought home freshly baked apple pie, from work, after they went apple picking on the weekend. Stephen then talks about his partner loving his apple pie and that is what inspired the new apple-flavoured menu for the fall season. 

It is easy to work at both according to the employees and Tony lets kids who can’t work elsewhere or can’t commit very many hours to work behind the counter when in need of money but don’t want to just take it. 

Tony also employs a really cute guy that makes you want to go to the bodega more. (No he doesn’t MJ!)

They pack up at the same time, 7 pm saying that they want to be home with their partners. Stephen closes only just before. 

But the bodega opens again around 2 am, or whenever Tony is awake. 

Both stores are inherently clean despite the clutteredness of the bodega compared to the simple modern design of the coffee shop.

They both opened the shops for their partners, Stephen’s husband (HUSBAND THEY ARE ALSO BOTH GAY! (or Bi)) loves coffee and Stephen thinks he needs to try something other than black. Tony opens early in the morning because he knows his husband likes to be awake early in the morning and in college, they would both visit the bodega before class (a  sacrifice he had to make, Tony likes to admit). 

If you work late enough you might see Stephen knock on the window of the bodega and Tony come out and kiss him before closing up shop finally.

On one night you might just be able to see a shocked Peter Parker, mouth wide open, through the window.
