Do you ever just have a day where you just can't?
The anxiety of some a required future medical procedure is just seeping into my core. I did have a lovely and well-timed timely week-after at-home vacation that was lovely, but trying to get my head in the game and do work alone just causes dread. My brain just reminds me of how much I'll probably need to tell my manager what's going on so he can understand my recent lack of focus. I'm dreading this moment. But first I should actually talk to someone who has had to go through the same thing before, and hopefully that will help.

One of the reasons Kathleen is so terrifying is that her “kids die, it’s just fate” speech is such an anti-vaxxer Christian determinism point of view and we all know people like that who hide behind the “nice midwestern lady” mask. Especially when directed at a black child whose family couldn’t afford medical treatment.

god this is depressing.
Okay, the tl;dr here is that a lot of experts are saying COVID is now endemic worldwide. You know, like TUBERCULOSIS and MALARIA are in many parts of the world.
There are some experts that disagree, saying COVID is still too unpredictable to label it endemic, but the basic gist is COVID is here to stay.
The article reassures people that its mostly older people and people with pre-existing conditions that are dying, so it's okay! (sarcasm)

every time i see that post about nitrogen narcosis i lose my mind bc as a diver that's like. not how any of that works at all. the op says that nitrogen narcosis happens at 60+ feet and a certain group of people will experience it all of the time. which isn't true, nitrogen narcosis can happen to anyone but it usually just feels like getting drunk. it's not nearly as serious as op makes it out to be. i've had nitrogen narcosis and it just feels a little disorienting. you might have a bit of trouble concentrating and feel some numbness but you're usually in cold water for the entirety of a dive so sometimes it's barely even noticeable. you can literally have nitrogen narcosis without even knowing it because the typical symptoms are so subtle
extreme effects don't occur until you're about 300 feet underwater which most people never go to. the woman described in that post, if she really was only 60 feet underwater, should probably see a medical professional because delusions shouldn't be caused by nitrogen narcosis at that depth. it's literally unheard of. 60 feet on a dive is like nothing. 12-year-olds are certified to go that deep if theyre accompianed by an adult, that's how safe it's considered to be. nitrogen narcosis in an extreme form really only occurs when you're absolutely exhausted, you have pre-existing conditions, or you're intoxicated in some other way. it's easy to avoid if you exercise caution and follow safety guidelines

Been watching Leverage, and came across an episode where a minor character has been denied life-saving coverage because she had a totally unrelated pre-existing condition. And I checked and this show is from 2008.
For all of its imperfections, the ACA stopped that particular bit of bullshit. Even at the time, that was one of those things (like civil asset forfeiture) that normal people think is made up, because of how batshit evil/criminal it sounds. And now, people have forgotten it existed because we actually fixed it.

Reminder for all my beloved followers that if you're like me and maybe forgot about or put off getting your latest covid vaccinations because making appointments and attending them is a drag, you can still do that and save yourself (and others) future suffering.

one of many things that pisses me off about the response to covid (but something that people here do continuously) is the downplaying of the flu. people die from the flu. completely healthy people die from the flu. every time you say ‘actually covid ISNT just the flu’ you’re fucking downplaying how bad the flu actually is.
go get your annual flu vaccine.
on that topic, seeing people be like ‘i dont wanna have to get a covid shot every year 😢’ like….. you’re not already getting your flu shot every year??? brother you are killing people.

I feel like both doctors and medication leaflets should actually tell you why they're giving certain instructions, because sometimes an instruction is given because it might help reduce side effects, sometimes it's given because it may help the medication work better, and sometimes it's given because if you don't follow that instruction it'll cause very serious problems and potentially kill you, and I feel like this is a very important distinction.
like, I want to know what happens if I miss a dose (because I have memory issues and need to evaluate that risk). I want to know what happens if I accidentally take a dose too soon. if it's a med that I can't take with food, what happens if I do take it too soon after eating? if it interacts with other meds, what do those interactions involve?
all of this stuff is important to know and yet I usually have to go digging through information online to try and figure any of it out, and half the time with stuff like missing doses, you still can't find anything other than "make sure you do not miss any doses" which isn't helpful

Isn’t that the sweetest face you’ve ever seen? This is Mara, a kitten my parents rescued from their yard three weeks ago. She’s captured the hearts of everyone who’s met her, but unfortunately her own heart has a life-threatening condition. If left untreated, kittens with her condition only live 6-12 months. But there’s a surgery that exists that would give her a chance at a normal lifespan.
I’ve started a gofundme for my parents to raise the funds needed to cover Mara’s vet costs.
Please take a moment to read Mara’s story and share it. Please donate if you have the means. Thank you.
