Hello! This post will probably seem out of place on my blog but I am offering free proofreading and copy editing services in order to build a portfolio! Freelancing is a hard thing to get started in, especially when most of one's recent job experience has been in the service industry, but I love editing for folks and I'm really trying to make this the year I get it up and running, even if only as a side hustle. If you have any projects you'd like to have copy edited or proofread, please keep reading to see if we can help each other!
My qualifications:
Studied English at the University of Dallas
Worked as a copy editor at the student newspaper
Did a summer internship in the corporate communications dept for a global company which involved, among other things, independently editing the daily company newsblast
Am a hobbyist writer on my own time - I relate from both sides of the red pen!
Simply editing things for family, friends, and online mutuals! Which has gotten me testimonials such as these:
"Katie provided an attentive and thorough reading of my resume, and suggested several minute but important corrections which helped to clarify my writing! She responded quickly to my request, edited the document and returned it to me within a short timeline, and was clear and direct in her feedback."
-Marie Trotter, writer and critic
"Katie Kuplack is the editor you need! Her perceptive notes and sharp eye for grammar, such as verb tense and sentence structure, will make your writing more professional and publishable. Katie will take your writing seriously, offering honest feedback and encouraging you to exceed your expectations. I recommend Katieâs editing services for any writing project that you value and hope to share with the world."
-Sarah O'Brien, EIC of Boston Accent Lit and author of Shapeshifter
How It Would Work:
You can message me here or email me at [email protected] about the project you'd like me to work on and we'll talk about what service you're wanting, turnaround time, etc. I'm open to bouncing it back and forth as much as you need to get the final product you want. In the end, you get a more polished whatever-it-is, and I have your permission to keep before-and-after samples of your project for my portfolio, to be used on freelancing platforms like Upwork or eventually shown on my own website.
Types of Docs/Projects I am particularly interested in working on:
Short fiction and poetry.
Captions and subtitles*
Website copy and blog posts
Resumes, cover letters, other business writing
*I realize these typically don't get edited by a third party, but I am also interested in getting experience creating them if that's something you need!
Other stuff you should know:
I'm already familiar with AP Style, planning to learn Chicago, and can of course work with whatever company- or project-specific style guide you might have.
My topical specialties include English lit, pop culture, fandom, business communications, martial arts, beauty and skincare, and the coffee industry.
I have experience editing for ESL writers and translated work.
I can work with you through both Google and Microsoft applications.
What I will NOT work on:
Any AI-generated content
Marketing/sales copy
Full-length books/novels (not for free)
Amazon/Kindle e-books
Academic papers, dissertations, etc.
Please reblog to help me get this around and thank you if you read this whole thing! I know this is a long shot but I hope to hear from some of y'all soon. :)

hi! Sorry if this is so random but basically I know youâre an art historian and I am currently studying in a pretty similar discipline (similar in that their both incredibly niche humanities and at every family gathering at least one person turns around and says âwhat career are you pursue with that?â). Anyways, you mentioned that you have a published work and I wondered how hard it was to go through that process? I wrote a thesis a few months ago that I was incredibly proud of and my professor suggested that I try to get it peer reviewed and published but I have no clue how to go about that. There is also the problem that it is an INCREDIBLY male white dominated field and I am a hijabi brown girl and the racism is targeted as all hell. Basically Iâm asking what the process is like and if itâs worth even trying to get it published or is the process too long and complicated to bother with as an undergrad? Sorry for all the ramble! :))
i feel that all the stars aligned for my publication,, because it was specifically a call for papers based on what i did my master's dissertation about,,, so it really worked out for me.
it takes a bit of time and research to find the right journal to submit to and time to reformat the manuscript to the journal's standards but I think that it is worth it!
i would start by identifying key academic journals in your field that work with what you want to publish, then look at their calls for papers and their expectations and go from there! as far as my process went, there was a call for papers, i had to submit an abstract and a cover letter to one of the people at the journal by a specific deadline, then they approved my paper topic for one of their special issue publications. i had to submit my paper for the journal which was then peer reviewed by two people and then the academic journal editor. they sent it back to me with "minor revisions" that needed to be made and i made the revisions and resubmitted within the week and the paper was approved for publishing.
i think that the process can be extremely rewarding, and i would always recommend going for it! it looks good professionally, especially if you're in a niche humanities field!!!

by Brian Shilhavy Editor, Health Impact News
An amazing interview from 2013 with Dr. A. True Ott, PhD, has been republished by a couple of people within the past few days, and I just got done watching it today.
Talk about âtruth bombsâ, many of those were dropped in this amazing interview, including revealing who really runs the world today and controls both political parties today.
Dr. Ottâs work has been censored in a major way, and fortunately Archive.org is currently operating well enough for me to retrieve Dr. Ottâs full bio from his original blog which has since been scrubbed from the Internet.
A. True Ott, PhD A. True Ott received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah in 1982, and went on to receive his Doctor of Philosophy in the field of Nutrition through the American College in Washington DC in 1994. Dr. Ottâs dissertation and research followed the groundbreaking work of Linus Pauling, and asserted via independent research that each mineral on the periodic table of the elements, in its pure hexagonal crystalline form, pulses a specific hertz resonant frequency based on its atomic weight and unique electron configuration. Dr. Ott then measured and graphed the individual resonant frequencies inherent in vitamin and enzyme structures, and independently verified that 23 minerals are the base raw materiel of nutrition and are vitally important in keeping the human cells in a state of balance or homeostatic health. Dr. Ott has been counseling and lecturing on this most basic form of prime nutrition for over 15 years, and founded Mother Earth Minerals, Inc. in 1997. Dr. Ottâs independent research also verified the importance of free electrons in nutritional, water-soluble mineral supplements, as well as ultra-pure drinking water and oxygen molecules. He developed a patent-pending drinking water product that attaches free electrons to the Hydrogen and Oxygen molecules in ultra-pure, medicinal grade water â making it negatively charged (extra âfree electronsâ) and then introduced it to individuals suffering from chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, etc. Amazingly, the free electrons in Dr. Ottâs water product began to reduce the symptoms associated with chronic disease in a very powerful way. As Dr. Ott declared in a recent symposium: âSociety has unfortunately taken water for granted. When I share my research on water and minerals with others in the allopathic medical community, the typical response is raised eyebrows and mocking derision. Too often health care professionals, however, forget that the human body is composed of 70% water and 30% minerals â therefore it is simply common sense that pure water combined with pure minerals comprise Mother Earthâs medicine chest for all mammalian life forms! It is not rocket science, only basic nutritional truth!â The author and publisher of dozens of articles and three books on nutrition, Dr. Ott is continually searching for natural solutions and answers to the nationâs chronic health problems, and believes that education is the first step. His latest book, Secret Assassins in Food blows the whistle on common food additives and is a âmust-readâ in order to understand some of the more toxic food additives and programs! From 1996-2001, Dr. Ott worked with Mr. Warren Anderson to produce the radio program âThe Story Behind the Storyâ at KSUB Radio in Cedar City, Utah and was awarded the prestigious Peabody Award for radio documentary. Thesis Writing Process
The 5-Step Process for Writing a Thesis: A Super Comprehensive Guide
Writing a thesis is a glorious academic moment in which perhaps the cumulative outcome of four years of study and research is being produced. While intimidating as a thought, however, it breaks down into pragmatic steps that ensure clarity and efficiency, and a polished final product. This blog publishes a comprehensive guide on a 5-step process to guide you through your thesis journey.
Step 1: Select and Refine Your Research Topic One first step in writing a dissertation is to select a topic of interest to you, relevant to your academic interest, career objectives, and the study area. Write down general ideas that interest you as well as are applicable to your field of study. Begin preliminary research into your selected ideas.
Narrow the Focus: A narrow, well-defined research question is easier to manage and is more meaningful than an open-ended one. It can be related that a broad topic like "Climate Change" is better narrowed down to be, "The Effects of Renewable Policies towards Reducing Carbon Emissions in Urban Areas."
Step 2: Do a Thorough Research
Having a topic in mind, proceed with research. Research is essentially collecting and synthesizing information that will lead to an excellent grounding for your thesis.
Primary vs. Secondary Sources: Mix primary sources, like experiments, surveys, or interviews, with secondary ones, like journal articles, books, or reports.
Take Notes: Use Zotero or End with the collection of references and systematic notes.
Critical Evaluation: Examine your sources critically to determine if they relate to and support your thesis question and are appropriate to your topic. Maintain a journal of interesting ideas, major findings, and citations as you conduct research. This will facilitate the writing process later on. --- ### Step 3: Thoroughly Give It a Good Framework A good thesis is also well-structured. Before you begin writing, draft a rough outline of your work to ensure it will be orderly.
Introduction: State your research question, objectives and the reasons why your study holds its importance. \
Literature Review: Summarize and critique previous studies to pinpoint what is unique in your study. \
Methodology: Discuss the methods and tools that you used to carry on your research. \
Results and Discussion: Present your findings, analyze them and relate to your research question. Conclusion: Summarize major findings and say what they imply, and indicate future avenues for research.
This road-map achieves proper flow and coherence for both the writer and the reader.
Core Sections First: Prepare methodology, results and discussion first because such parts are often the core sections of your thesis.
Be Clear; Be Concise: Avoid using jargons unless unavoidable and define technical terms to reach more audiences.
Get Feedback: Share drafts with your advisor or peers in order to get constructive feedback.
Edit Ruthlessly: Review for clarity, grammar, and coherence. Tools like Grammarly and Hemingway Editor can help polish your writing.
Set daily or weekly writing goals to maintain steady progress.
Step 5: Finalize and Defend
Prepare your thesis for submission and defense.
Formatting and Citation: Format according to your institution's guidelines on the formatting, citation, and referencing. Double-check everything for consistency.
Proofread: Read through the document at least three or four times for spotting typos, inconsistencies in formatting, or other mistakes. You might consider hiring a professional proofreader to help you out.
Practice Presentation and Q&A: Rehearse your presentation a number of times. Think about questions that may be presented to you by the panel. Be prepared to back up your statements with evidence and speak assertively regarding the research.
The day you defend your dissertation is the day to celebrate all the hard work and achievement made until then. . Conclusion Writing a thesis is quite demanding but highly rewarding for it tests your critical thinking abilities, researching, and the skill to write. If you break down these steps to the choosing of the topic, research, structuring, writing, and finalizing, you'll be in a better position in handling the entire process. Remember that persistence and careful planning will get a thesis written that will not only demonstrate one's knowledge of the subject matter but also contribute to the field.
In fact, it takes a lot of courage to move on with this project, and these steps shall take you to it!

Editors - They Are Worth It
If you've ever looked into editors and what they do, you've probably found there are a lot of different ones out there. This post is coming from the perspective of a Self-Published author. Traditional Publishing will have a different path. What types of editor are there? What editors do you need? How do you know if an editor is good? Final Thoughts and Links
What types of editors are there?
Developmental Editor - This type of editor works with a writer to work on "big-picture" issues. Also to refine ideas, shape the narrative, work on plot holes; minor or major, and generally what works or what doesn't. In my opinion, they are not for everyone. They have their uses but really only writers who don't have a complete picture of what they are wanting to say with their story. For my second book, I tried one and they wanted to remove 25% of my book and re-focus on a completely different aspect of my story. They also wanted me to cut out several characters. With inline comments every time they showed up with how they should be removed. Ultimately, I did not find all of the opinions of the Developmental Editor useful. Sure, there were some I did find helpful, but personally, I will not be using one again. I have the 'picture' of what I want to show, and don't need a back-seat writer.
Content Editor - This type of editing is to help the story itself. Once you have written the story, this editor will help to strengthen the it. Where developmental editors will help to build the story and its foundation, a content editor will help to arrange everything once the foundation has been laid. This editing will typically not be to the line specifically but focus on paragraphs and larger. Looking at the overall idea of a story, possibly adding, removing, or moving sections around.
Line Editor - This type of editing is often confused with copyediting. Frequently, you will have an editor that does both. But not all the time. Line editing consists of the content of your prose. They focus on the sentences themselves. Concentrating on the style over mechanics of sentences. This is more of a creative editor. If you had to choose between a Line Editor and a Copy Editor, always go with the Copy Editor.
Copy Editor - This editing is all about the mechanics and grammar of the work. This editing should bring it to a 'professional' level. You would not use a copy editor until you are satisfied with the story itself. If there is something still to be done to the story but you feel you need an editor, choose something else.
Proofreader - No matter how many times you have read through your own work, there will always be a mistake. Maybe if you read it a thousand times, you will find all of them. But no one is going to do that. A Proofreader is the last line of defense against errors before publishing. You might be saying, I used a Copy Editor, they are supposed to find all the mistakes. And yes, they probably found a thousand, two thousand, eight thousand mistakes in your manuscript, but they are human. So are you. Did you actually accept all of the corrections? Did you accidentally highlight a word and hit space at some point and didn't realize it? Did you do something human? The point is, you want your work to be perfect, or as near to perfect as you can afford. The Proofreader will generally find little mistakes and things that got missed. it is always better to have more eyes on something than less.
Beta Reader - While not technically an editor, they are something in the process that can be just as good as an editor. The experiences with Beta Readers will be so varied that I can't really say more than you may have some that give you a single sentence that they liked it, or not. And then you could have someone write you a dissertation of all they found wrong, or maybe they completely misunderstood all of your writing. It is one of the most important tools though, as Beta Readers are generally someone not invested in the project and will hopefully be able to provide honest advice about how and what to improve. There is some debate that I've seen about whether Beta Readers should be paid or not. My consensus is not. However, doing a swap with another writer is highly recommended. They can be humbling and eye-opening all at the same time.
What editors do you need?
We'll start with what you need. This is a simple question, with a complicated answer. It all depends on your skill or confidence with your story. When it comes to the bare minimum, I will always recommend Beta Readers, followed by Copy Editing, and then a Proofreader. Developmental, Content, and Line editing all have their uses but given how writer's typically don't have much funds to go around, it is best if you can find someone who can do more than one function. Speaking of funds, not only do you need to pay editors, but you may also need to pay for Cover Art, maybe a map, or any number of other things that go along with publishing. It is good to have a budget for self-publishing. The hard part is fitting in all that you need while staying under that budget.
How do you know if an editor is good?
This can be a difficult task. Some editors will offer a sample edit. it will usually be a page or two of your work that you provide them. From that, you can determine if you think they are worth the expense of hiring them for your whole manuscript. Typically, the sample is for line editing or copyediting or something tangible. Developmental editing is going to be harder to get a sample for and more often you will get what they assisted with in the past. Whether you have read those or not... Price is not going to be the only factor if someone is good or not. You may have someone who does this in their spare time but does great work, only taking a few clients a year. Or you could get someone who churns through edits. Both of these types of editors could be cheap or expensive. The truth is, you won't know if they are good until you have conversed with them and feel they are good for you and your story. Also, depending on genre, you may need to use a different editor. Someone who is versed in romance may not be able to help develop a Sci-Fi story for instance. Or someone deep into fantasy probably wouldn't be able to help with a murder mystery. Not to say that people can't do multiple things, but it is important to have someone who knows the genre to be able to help with your story. This is true for all types of editors, even Copy Editors. There are a lot of made up words in Fantasy and even Sci-Fi, you will want someone to know they are made up and not change them all. Or at minimum, question the various spellings of those words throughout the story.
Final Thoughts
All stories need some editing. It all depends how far along you are with your experiences as a writer and where you are with a particular story as to which editors you need. You may want to have a developmental editor for one story but not need it for another. You will need to figure out how much you can afford in your publishing journey. You may think you have a friend who is good with grammar. I can guarantee they are not as good as an actual editor (unless they are actually a copy editor or something) . What about those AI tools out there? Should you use those? That will be for another day to talk about, but given how I've had one, on more than one occasion, tell me to completely remove a sentence and just put a single period in its place...maybe use them sparingly.
Lastly, here are some links of potential places to find editors or other various professionals to help you with your journey. None of these are sponsored links. Just ones I have found useful in my journey.

Basic Structure of a Scientific Paper to Write.

The fundamental structure of a scientific paper is encapsulated by the acronym IMRAD, which stands for Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. This structure is integral to original research articles and facilitates clear and organized presentation of research findings. Each component of IMRAD serves a distinct purpose:
Introduction: Presents the research question and its significance.
Methods: Describes the procedures and techniques used to conduct the study.
Results: Summarizes the data and findings of the research.
Discussion: Interprets the findings, linking them back to the research question and broader context.
In addition to IMRAD, scientific papers typically include a title page, abstract, keywords, tables, graphs, figures, acknowledgments, and references. Each element contributes to the overall clarity and accessibility of the research.
Types of Papers

Scientific journals publish various types of papers, each serving a specific purpose and judged by distinct criteria. Understanding these types can help authors select the most appropriate format for their work, thus maximizing the impact and acceptance chances of their manuscript. The main types of papers include:
Original Article: Reports new research findings based on original research. This is the most critical paper type, often subdivided into Major Papers and Original Reports.
Case Report: Describes unique cases that provide new insights or highlight unusual clinical conditions.
Technical Note: Details specific techniques, procedures, or new equipment relevant to a medical field.
Pictorial Essay: Focuses on the educational value of high-quality images, often used in teaching.
Review: Summarizes recent developments on a specific topic without introducing new data.
Commentary: Offers personal perspectives on current issues or controversial topics.
Editorial: Provides short reviews or critiques of articles published in the same journal issue.
Letter to the Editor: Allows for short communications on various subjects, including comments on previously published articles.
Preparing the Manuscript
Authors must tailor their manuscripts to the type of paper they are writing, following specific guidelines and structures. For example:
Original Articles should follow the IMRAD structure with a detailed methods section and robust statistical analysis.
Case Reports often have a simpler structure with a focus on the unique aspects of the case and their implications.
Technical Notes and Pictorial Essays emphasize methods and visual elements, respectively, with concise text sections.
Reviews and Commentaries should be well-organized with comprehensive coverage of the relevant literature and clear presentation of viewpoints.
Enhancing Chances of Acceptance
To enhance the chances of manuscript acceptance, authors should:
Adhere to the journalâs specific guidelines outlined in the âInstructions to Authorsâ or âGuide for Authors.â
Ensure their manuscript is well-structured, clear, and concise.
Select the most appropriate type of paper for their research.
Include all necessary components, such as a structured abstract, relevant keywords, and thorough references.
Conclusion
Familiarity with the basic structure and types of scientific papers, as well as adherence to journal guidelines, is crucial for authors aiming to publish their work successfully. By choosing the appropriate format and meticulously preparing their manuscripts, authors can effectively communicate their research and increase their chances of acceptance in reputable journals. This structured approach not only maximizes the materialâs impact but also contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the medical field.

WITH: @reyhansolmaz LOCATION: coffee shop, atlanta
His dissertation had been the one that earned him his first teaching position as an Assistant Professor at Rice. While there, he had worked rather tirelessly ( and perhaps at the expense of his marriage ) to pull together enough material to actually publish his first book documenting cases throughout history and how the advent of forensic science opened up investigative methodologies that otherwise had been closed off for centuries. DNA testing alone had exonerated a number of defendants who had been falsely convicted. Other techniques easily could provide crucial evidence, if departments around the country received adequate training and funding into these investigative solutions. It was out of that first passion project that his current podcast came about. After that first book, his interests had deviated towards more of the classic cultural anthropology to avoid siloing himself into only one area of study. Even now, Jameson did not allow only one area of his chosen subject to dominate his entire time. However, starting the podcast afforded him the opportunity to return to marrying academia and storytelling that his more scholarly papers did not.
Leaving class, he immediately made his way to the coffee shop that him and Reyhan had agreed to meet at. When he reached out to her after reading some of the reviews she left on his episodes, he absolutely intended to pay her for beta-reading a few chapters of his upcoming book. Imagine his surprise, and absolute chagrin, when he realized her email signature contained her profession: editor. Which was precisely why this meeting was arranged in Atlanta. It would give him an opportunity to express his gratitude for her thoughtful engagement with his pet project and to learn more about her work and publishing house. Scanning the coffee shop for a woman who he had actually never met before, he saw a professionally dressed brunette sitting alone a few tables away. Where most of the customers appeared to be students, she was the only that looked like she could be there for a business meeting. Which was why he took his chances and approached her table, hoping that sheâd at least recognize him even if he didnât recognize her. âMs. Reyhan Solmaz?â

Sometimes Grad Studies Get Weird: The Publication Edition
So, when I was working on my dissertation, one of the things that I was advised to do was take my framework and expand it a beyond Shakespeare as kind of a test to see if it was actually as broadly applicable as I thought it was. Turns out, it was. Then we went of the objectively bananas journey that was getting my chapter in this edited collection published. Let's talk Disability and the Superhero.
Let's start with the book itself, which is an edited collection of scholarly essays on aleism and representation in comic media. It's kind of handy when subtitles do all the heavy lifting for you. For those of you interested in actually reading this book, the table of contents and a link to the publisher's website will be at the bottom of this post.
Despite the fact that this book was released in the year of our lord 2023, my journey with this book starts in 2018, when I found a call for papers asking for explorations of ableism in superhero media. I have a bit of a soft spot for the MCU's standalone Iron Man films, so I wrote up a little abstract, sent if off, and promptly forgot about it. Until August of that year, when I got an email telling me that my paper--which was not yet written at the time, I might add--had been accepted for inclusion in the edited collection.
Between August of 2018 and December of 2019, I wrote the chapter and went back and forth with our two (yes two, that's not a typo; consider it foreshadowing) editors for revisions a couple of times, and I turned in the final revisions I would do on the chapter in December of 2019, literally the night before my grandfather passed away.
Between funeral stuff and desperately trying to salvage Christmas in Decemeber of 2019, defending my dissertation in January of 2020, and teaching my first ever independent class in the first term of the new year, the Iron Man chapter was completely out of my head. Then March 2020 and the pandemic really hit, and nobody knew anything for about eighteen months.
When we finally got some updates (and no shade to our lovely editor; Amber was never anything less than professional and wonderful throughout the process!), one of the two editors had left the project, and our press was still scrambling to figure out life in a pandemic, but the project was still hanging on to life.
Then in 2022, we had some movement. We were in review! Except that, as happens sometimes because peer review is a godawful system that pays no one, one of our reviewers had responded, one had fallen off the face of the earth, and one had hung onto the book for four months before coming back to say that they actually were not in a place to do the review. So our editor and press went hunting for at least one, ideally two, more peer reviewers, and did eventually find them. It was sometimes in mid-2022 that we were told that yes, yes this book WOULD be published. Then it was mostly radio silence, with the odd update from our editor, until June 14, 2023, when we were told that the book had been published.
Canny readers will note that this post is coming out on June 23, 2023. That's because this is the day when you can actually buy the book, according to retail sites and the publisher's website. So this has been a long, really WEIRD process, but I am so, so excited to share my chapter on Iron Man with the world.
I had a lot of fun writing this chapter, and I think it demonstrates the use of the filmic stare and the inherent ableism in how Marvel presents disabled characters really well. I will say that the chapter was designed to focus only on the three standalone Iron Man movies, not the Avengers movies, or Civil War, or Infinity War or Endgame (which had not been released when I wrote the chapter). This is because the Iron Man movies tell a relatively complete story, and the arc was fascinating to consider.
For anyone interested, the publisher's website page for the book is here, and the table of contents is as follows:

George 3 ÂHyper-Normative Heroes, Othered Villains: Differential Disability Narratives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Kelly A. In physics, most of our journals are non-profit, although we do have a few published under these publishers. (Including the Nature series, of course, which is published under Springer, and has some fairly prestigious subject-specific journals, in addition to Nature itself.)
Things that are the same:
authors have to pay a publication fee (in fact, I'm pretty sure it's higher for non-profit journals; it's definitely higher for open-access journals because they aren't supplemented by library subscriptions)
reviewers aren't paid
it can take a long time to get published
you can only submit to one journal at a time
Things that are sort of the same:
the journals co-own the IP you publish, but the IP ownership agreement isn't nearly as restrictive, and you still co-own the IP yourself. You're not going to get in trouble, for example, for copy-pasting your publication directly into your dissertation, the way that you sometimes can if you publish in a for-profit journal. And it's possible to patent something and then publish about it, without losing your patent rights (not sure if this is true with the for-profit journals or not), as long as you do things in the right order.
Things that are better:
the scientific-editorial staff are full-time employees who are paid salaries, rather than academic volunteers (this is a distinct job from the reviewers, who are still unpaid volunteers; the editors pick the reviewers, and make the decisions on all manuscripts including whether to summarily dismiss without review, whether to send out for review, and how to interpret the reviews)
you can co-publish at any time in the process (before, during, and after) in a non-peer-reviewed archive, whether that's your university website, your university's own archive (Harvard notoriously has a requirement about this that has forced a lot of journals' hands), or the arĎiv--in fact, with some physics journals, you can officially link your publication on the arĎiv and your publication in the peer-reviewed journal
since these are non-profits, you know your publication fees really are just going to operating expenses--and these are non-profits that you can easily gain membership to (the same professional-affiliation orgs run the conferences as run the journals, so actually, most academics are members of their country-specific org), so if you care enough you can have some oversight

My spouse lost their job due to discrimination in July, almost a year ago. My spouse is nonbinary, butch, autistic, and deals with chronic pain. Their boss couldnât deal with my spouse calling out bullshit and addressing mistakes, which was always done gently and privately because spouse is thoughtful and considerate.
Spouse got a nine month severance but it ended a few days ago. They are applying to jobs but theyâve only gotten one interview in all these months and it was in September.
Weâre selling things and downsizing and weâre moving to a more affordable unit in July, but we still need help. I need a dental implant that will cost $4,000 and I have a wisdom tooth that needs to be pulled. Spouse needs some tests and lab work thatâs hundreds out of pocket.
I sell art. Spouse does academic editing. I would email them instead of using the chat function on their website if youâre interested in working with them.
Thank you for your consideration, time, and attention.

From Talks to Timeless Records: The Hidden Strength of Precision Transcription
Accurate transcription can change how knowledge travels through time. A clear record of spoken words becomes a reliable reference, a teaching tool, and even a historical artifact. This article uncovers why precision transcription matters far beyond simple typing, and how it transforms lectures and interviews into lasting legacies.
When Every Word Counts
Imagine a landmark lecture slipping through memoryâs cracks. Key insights vanish. Precise transcription captures each nuance. It picks up on tone shifts, pauses, and emphasisâthe subtle markers that give speech its full meaning. Capturing these details creates a document that reads with the speakerâs original intent intact. And that level of fidelity can influence research, policy decisions, and cultural archives for decades.
Behind the Scenes of Quality Transcripts
Transcription isnât just fast typing. It demands subjectâmatter knowledge and sharp listening skills. Transcribers learn to navigate accents, jargon, and technical terms. They distinguish overlapping voices and mark speaker changes. This craft often combines human expertise with AI tools. The human ear corrects machine misreads. Together they form a workflow that balances speed with nuance.
Integrating Tech Without Losing Human Touch
Modern platforms offer automated transcription. They promise instant outputs at a click. But raw AI text can misinterpret specialized vocabulary or context. Thatâs where human editors step in. They refine timestamps, validate terminology, and ensure logical flow. This blend of automation and human review defines the best transcription services available today.

Why Scholars Rely on Precision
Academic research hinges on credible sources. A misquoted phrase can derail an argument or misrepresent findings. Researchers often turn to academic transcription services for dissertation interviews, focus groups, and oral histories. These providers follow strict confidentiality protocols and deliver documents formatted to meet publication standards. The result is a trustworthy foundation for rigorous scholarship.
Beyond Academia: Business and Media Uses
Transcription drives content creation in marketing, journalism, and legal fields. Video producers extract captions for SEO and accessibility. Lawyers use verbatim court transcripts for appeals. Podcasters publish show notes that improve discoverability and user engagement. In each case, accuracy shapes credibility and audience trust.
Extra Layers: Timestamping and Metadata
Good transcripts include more than plain text. They feature timestamps that link text to audio or video. They log speaker identities and annotate nonâverbal cues like laughter or applause. Metadata tags highlight keywords and themes, making documents searchable. This structure turns raw transcripts into dynamic research tools.
Training Transcribers: The Human Element
Apprenticeship remains vital. New transcribers learn through handsâon practice under mentors. They refine ear training by working on diverse audio samplesâfrom noisy conference halls to intimate interviews. Peer reviews and feedback loops help maintain high standards. This communal learning fosters a culture of continual improvement.
Ethics and Confidentiality
Handling sensitive material requires discretion. Professional transcribers abide by nonâdisclosure agreements and secure data protocols. They respect privacy laws and dataâprotection regulations. Transparent workflows and encrypted file storage ensure client trust. In fields like medicine or law, this rigor is nonânegotiable.
Future Horizons: AI and Beyond
AI models continue to evolve, offering better speech recognition and language understanding. As they improve, turnaround times shrink and costs drop. Yet human oversight remains essential. Transcription will likely shift toward realâtime editing and multilingual support. Regardless of tools, the core mission stays the same: to preserve every spoken insight faithfully.
Conclusion
Precision transcription bridges the gap between spoken word and enduring record. It safeguards knowledge, supports scholarship, and empowers diverse industries. By combining human expertise with smart technology, todayâs transcription services ensure that lectures, interviews, and meetings leave an indelible mark. Quality transcripts transform fleeting talks into timeless legacies.

Unlock the Power of Precision with Journal Article Editing by Proaccuracy
Publishing in reputable journals is one of the most significant milestones in an academic or research career. However, even the most groundbreaking research can face rejection due to language flaws, formatting issues, or poor structure. This is where journal article editing becomes indispensable. At Proaccuracy, we specialize in refining, polishing, and perfecting academic manuscripts, helping researchers maximize their chances of publication success.
What Is Journal Article Editing?
Journal article editing involves reviewing and refining a manuscript before submission to an academic journal. This process includes checking for grammatical errors, punctuation, clarity, logical flow, structure, formatting, and adherence to the specific style guide required by the target journal (such as APA, MLA, Chicago, or journal-specific guidelines).
Unlike basic proofreading, journal article editing goes deeper by improving sentence structure, enhancing academic tone, ensuring coherence, and polishing your work to a publishable standard.
Why Is Journal Article Editing Important?
Academic publishing is competitive. Editors and peer reviewers expect flawless submissions that demonstrate both intellectual rigor and linguistic clarity. Even native English speakers benefit from professional editing, and for non-native English-speaking researchers, journal article editing is often essential.
Hereâs why journal article editing is critical:
Avoid Rejection: Many articles are rejected not because of weak research but due to poor language or formatting.
Save Time: Avoid multiple rounds of revisions by submitting a professionally edited version upfront.
Meet Journal Standards: Each journal has specific submission guidelines; journal article editing ensures compliance.
Enhance Readability: Clear language helps readers grasp your ideas faster and improves your workâs impact.
Strengthen Academic Tone: Editors help enhance the tone and make your argument more persuasive.

Plagiarism and Similarity Review: We check for unintentional plagiarism and ensure proper citation practices.
Detailed Feedback: You receive an edited manuscript along with comments and suggestions to improve your future writing.
Multiple Revisions: Need further changes? We offer multiple revision rounds based on reviewer feedback or new guidelines.
Who Needs Journal Article Editing?
Our services are ideal for:
PhD Students and Researchers: Who are submitting their first articles or dissertations for publication.
