Would anyone be interested in beta-/proofreading my KnB fic series?
(Spreading the word helps too. 🙏🏻)
Unfortunately I lost both of my beta-readers due to dramatic life changes a couple of years ago, and I've been doing my best to manage on my own but it's becoming a struggle.
Tumblr media
There must be someone out there who craves for the same kind of intense longfic as I do, to get immersed in, and would like to be a part of it.
Tumblr media
Plus there are some new/returning KnB people around recently, so who knows? Maybe one of you, who would already be interested in reading an insanely long fic for your own enjoyment, would like to devote, probably a few hours a month or so (I don't have a strict schedule), to relieving the writer's anxiety before they post a new chapter? I'm not looking for anything super in-depth. Basically just another pair of eyes to help me fix:
1. Scenes/sentences/word choices that are too confusing.
2. Factual errors.
3. Typos, grammar mistakes etc.
Low pressure, basically just anything that catches your attention as out of place or needing clarification. Definitely not asking for perfection or anything that you wouldn't catch on the first round of reading. I'm just looking to reduce mistakes I can't catch on my own.
I guess the chances of me finding anyone who is already reading the series (since to my knowledge my long-term readers never came from Tumblr in the first place) are pretty low, so
What will you get if you take a chance on me/The Other Things series?
Aside from a devoted friend (who will also always be ready for in-depth KnB talk)...
🏀 basically a lifetime supply of KagaKuro, seasoned with AoMomo, MidoTaka and other less prominent and at times rare ships (Stay tuned for Yagi Yuuta/Male OC) and also a lot of supporting OCs who exist for reasons other than shipping, including several characters' family members
🏀 one detailed and elaborate version of the main KnB characters' life journeys/basically an enormous character study
🏀 a very psychologically explicit story <- a pair of words (reader approved xD) I recently came up with to describe the emotional intensity that sometimes takes people by surprise
🏀 so much slice of life, so much dialogue, so much angst and fluff, so, so much character development that is definitely earned the hard way
🏀 snail speed slow-burn, I am not kidding, but intense love scenes and also no smut for over a million words but once we get there I promise it's worth it
🏀 so much intertextuality, myths, fairytales, analogies, symbolism that you can reread and reread if you want and I'm sure you'll keep finding new connections
🏀 a lot of fun stuff like our dorks in a group chat, disaster house parties and basketball idiots playing quadball, tons of everyday silliness
🏀 heart wrenching stuff and psychological depiction of hardship, personal growth as well as different kinds of relationships
🏀 deep-dives into topics including mental and physical health, dysfunctional family dynamics, a variety of queer experiences, neurodiversity and more, and particularly characters struggling with how complex things are
🏀 at times counterintuitive interpretations of canon but everything is in one way or another, canon-based or canon-inspired
🏀 to read seven fics before you actually get to beta-read the new stuff😇
Send me a DM if you're interested! 🩵
You can also try and decide it wasn't your thing. The series can be found here on AO3.

Alexander Cruden the self titled “Alexander the Corrector”, was born on the 31st of May, 1699.
One of my favourite quirky characters from Scottish history, I reckon if he had been born in this era he would have had a good few fans on T'Internet!
Cruden was a bookseller and corrector of proofs, and is famed as the compiler of a useful Bible study tool—the first complete English language concordance of the Bible.
Hardworking, loyal and gentle, he was also said to be obsessive believing God had appointed him to correct people's morals. and his obsessive horror of blasphemy once caused him to strike a cursing man with a shovel, leading to one of his three incarcerations in madhouses.
Cruden was one of the most public and vociferous mad figures of the eighteenth century. He was from Aberdeen, well-educated and a devout Christian, though his madness did not apparently originate in spiritual fervour, even if it took on a strongly religious line later in lift when he became involved in a series of conflicts in his self-appointed role as 'Alexander the Corrector' of the nation's morals. He was first confined for a short time by his parents in Aberdeen after a youthful romantic infatuation. On moving to London, he worked as a corrector of the press as well as running a small bookshop, and in 1737 he published his Complete Concordance to the Bible, a remarkable achievement and still an essential item of biblical scholarship.
Want to know more? Check out this account of Cruden's life in London and his attempts at staying out of bedlam including some using the quite eccentric authors own writings......

Protip: Particularly when writing up legal documents concerning investigations into a suspicious death, "He just started bawling" and "He just started balling" may sound the same, but they carry significantly different implications when describing someone's reaction to the news.
Might want to double-check which you mean.

help wanted!
we’re looking for a proof reader and/or an editor to help us write up our report on the results of our survey.
this would be free of charge as we unfortunately don’t have any methods of transferring money online however it would mean a lot to us that you could spare your time to help us, plus we could possibly offer our proof-reading skills in return.
DM us if you’re interested ^^ preferably on this blog but our main is okay too(@interstellar-cluster).
some more info under cut:
the report would likely be no longer than three or so pages, and we’re expecting it to be only around one to one and a half pages (this may vary as more responses come in).
the reason we are asking this after only one day of the survey being posted is that we prefer to have a good chunk of time between now and when we expect to be writing up the report, and also we may bring forward the date of the end of the survey if responses stop coming in.
you may also be wondering why we need a proof-reader and/or editor if we have proof-reading skills (as stated in the second paragraph). we find that we proof-read other’s writing much better than our own and we hold a high standard for grammar and spelling where we can.
the expected date to close submissions for the survey is May 30, 2025, although we expect submissions to stop coming in well before that.

EMERGENCY PROOFREADING SERVICES
I need very much to get out of a bad living situation, and am offering English proofreading/editing at a markedly lower rate than normal.
I can proofread/edit fic, written work, etc. for 7 USD per 1000 words. I can take pay through Venmo and PayPal.
If you need editing but can't pay the regular prices I offer this as an alternative. I consider myself a fairly quick proofreader, and I offer additional suggestions as well.

My 2024 In Review - Poetry, Fiction & More!
Check out my 2024 in review as an author, poet, beta reader and proofreader right here!
Happy New Year! It’s a fun coincidence that New Year’s Day this year happened to be on a Wednesday, so I decided I’d shake things up a little bit with a post that explores what I’ve done throughout this past year. Books I’ve released two books this year, one of them in a more unconventional manner than my usual releases. Chained Soul, a dystopian novel taking the form of an imprisoned man’s…

Alexander Cruden the self titled “Alexander the Corrector”, was born on the 31st of May, 1699.
It's always a pleasure to revisit "Alexander the Corrector" as he was called seems like as he wa such a character who obviously had mental health problems, not that it held him back too much!
Alexander Cruden was a bookseller and corrector of proofs, is famed as the compiler of a useful Bible study tool—the first complete English language concordance of the Bible. Hardworking, loyal and gentle, he was also be obsessive believing God had appointed him to correct people’s morals. and his obsessive horror of blasphemy once caused him to strike a cursing man with a shovel, leading to one of his three incarcerations in madhouses.
Cruden was one of the most public and vociferous mad figures of the eighteenth century. He was from Aberdeen, well-educated and a devout Christian, though his madness did not apparently originate in spiritual fervour, even if it took on a strongly religious line later in lift when he became involved in a series of conflicts in his self-appointed role as ‘Alexander the Corrector’ of the nation’s morals.
“Concordance” includes a list of every single word used in the bible AND how many times it is used, that’s from “a”, “the”, “of”, “to” and “with”, and most “ands”, “buts” and “froms” there are 35 references to “honey”, 94 to “wine”. All the “alls” are quoted, including “above all” and “all ye”. The entry for “synagogue” alone includes a 4,000-word article on places of worship. Just reading the Concordance would drive most of us round the twist, surely the work of a mad man, but Cruden is known for so much more. It took him 12 years to complete his Concordance, all done in his spare time!
I can image Alexander Cruden in this day and age with a blog and many many followers, he would also be on Twitter spreading his words and commenting on the unbelievers, he would be a pedantic user and might end up being suspended from time to time.
On his death on November 1st 1770 he left his property to various relatives and to the City of Aberdeen for the purchase of religious books to be distributed to the poor. Despite his wish to be buried in Aberdeen, his body was interred in the dissenters’ burial-ground at Deadman’s Place, Southwark. There are plaques to his memory in Aberdeen, where there is also a street, Cruden’s Court. A second plaque can be found at Camden London
Want to know more? Check out this account of Cruden’s life in London and his attempts at staying out of bedlam including some using the quite eccentric authors own writings, where he refers to himself in the third sense, as Mr C… https://www.bible.ca/psychiatry/account-of-the-unparalleled-case-of-a-citizen-of-london-bookseller-to-the-late-queen-alexander-cruden-1738ad.htm
There is also a good article about him here on Electric Scotland’s web pages https://electricscotland.com/history/other/cruden_alexander.htm

Who wants to proofread an early draft of Trash and Treasure?
Edit: I did some research and realized that I need to clarify that I'm broke. I don't have money. If you take up this offer I'm sorry but I can't pay. This is my first time asking for a proofreader, so sorry.

that's one fine-looking manuscript you've got there
tl;dr: if you've got a book in the works, I want to proofread and/or edit it; I'm good at what I do, and because I'm building a new business from the ground, my rates are on a sliding scale that will put a Slip'n'Slide to shame; message for deets; trust me, I'm more scared of you than you are of me.
This isn't a pitch. (Although I never could resist a douchey post title.) This is just me reaching out to fellow writeblrs, with a so-informal-I-had-to-blur-my-zoom-background offer/request.
If you have a manuscript in the works, I want to proofread and/or edit it. Maybe you're planning to self-publish, maybe you want to score a small press, maybe you want to pitch to agents. Heck, maybe you're book-binding a fic and want it to be as shiny as it gets! Whatever you're planning to do with your book and whatever your budget is, I want to help.
I'm starting my own business as an independent editor. It's something I've wanted to do for a very long time, and last week, my steady freelance writing gig of eight years folded in the scope of one afternoon due to corporate shenanigans (yay, capitalism!), and I figured: if I was looking for a sign, that was it.
I'm a good writer, and also a good editor. I have an eye for detail, an ear for language, and a butt for staying in the chair until the job is done. Also, thanks to my deep roots in fanfic, I've got a ton of skill points in characterization, voice and the ability to match a story's style and vibe.
I've been writing and editing my own and other people's work for the best part of 15 years now, but because a lot of it was ghostwriting, putting together a portfolio is going to take some time. Having an editor or proofreader credit on a handful of titles that are finished and out there would make a world of difference: which is why, if you take a chance on me at this so-early-it's-still-late stage, you'll get a very low price, very good service, and a fiercely loyal word wrangler on your side for years to come.
This is where I should sign off with an enthusiastic call to action. I've tried a bunch and deleted them all. I know you're supposed to project confidence at times like this, but I've written way too much marketing copy in my day, and being fake on the page makes me queasy. I like being honest, and the honest thing is, I'm trying something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I'm excited, and also scared. Starting a new thing is hard, but I know I can do a good job if a handful of people give me a chance. So if you're one of them, message me, and I will treat your words with the care that they deserve. I am a writer myself, after all. I know words are precious. I know stories matter. I want to help you tell yours.
Thank you. 💛

Beta Readers Wanted!
Hello fellow readers! I'm looking for a little helper :3
If you like reading witchy fanfictions, then how would you like to read it before everyone else!
I love writing and proofreading myself, but every time I hit publish I look back and notice a dozen words spelt wrong. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I read it over, I always miss the little details.
I have yet to start writing. I am currently in the rough plotting phase, but I intend to finish the first chapter by the 24th. I don't know the chapter length, but it should be around 2,500-10,000.
This is the first big fic I'm writing, and I would love some help to make sure grammatically, it turns out well. You will also be credited at the end of every chapter as a beta reader.
Here are some of my Previous Works, to give you a taste of my writing style and where my grammar is at. My newest work is my best.
Thank you so much for your time! I look forward to hearing from you whether it be through messages, reblog or a comment :3
