It occurs to me that some of you empty spaces robotgirls who like conversion stories, particularly the zoomers among you, may not have seen the stroggification sequence from Quake 4
Enjoy.

I really hope Id remasters Quake III (and maybe IV?) for their respective anniversaries like what they did with I and II.
Same with Doom 3, like yeah BFG Edition exists, but imagine a proper "enhanced" version of the original Doom 3, without any modifications to the lighting and also without the weird, partially-censored ports of Doom 1 and 2 that remove one of the most interesting enemies in the entire franchise and maybe also higher-res alternate models like what the Quake remasters got.

Here's a pretty crappy doodle I did earlier today lmao. I gave Private Strauss a 7& a 1/2 ft tall alien girlfriend. I'm still thinking of a name for her!

So my crack theory to connect Quake and Quake II (aside from the multiverse of Quake 3/Champions) is that the Strogg are the humans from Quake I.
Tumblr media
That's why they use the same "winged skull" symbol from the Military Base levels in Quake. Humanity dealt with continuing assaults by the Outer Gods by cyberneticizing themselves, but still ended up going mad. Eventually, they threw the entire planet Earth back hundreds of years in time to attack and assimilate their own ancestors to stop them from inventing the Slipgate in the first place.
Tumblr media
Past Earth just saw this as an invasion of suspiciously-humanoid aliens, and found the completely insane cyborgs surprisingly easy to resist and counter-attack.

My project with the kids for Term 4 2023 - our project brief is 'Monstrification.' We're taking an original or existing character and monstrifying them. I took my OC Kay and turned her into a Strogg Berserker from Quake. - Luke. #fezilla #studiofezilla #digitalart #quake #artwork #anime #arts #digitaldrawing #digitalart #Devildogs #NeonKnights #Strogg #manga #gaming #FanArtFriday #retroshooter #cyberpunk

...Whoever made this graphic...clearly thought that either the top of the right hand brain scan was the front of the brain or the left of the left hand one was the front of the brain, which would make the neruocyte in more or less the same place on both scans.
Except the rightmost scan quite clearly has the front of the brain at the bottom and the leftmost scan has the front of the brain on the right. Meaning, according to this, the neurocyte is apparently both in the upper right parietal lobe AND the bottom left frontal lobe.
I have to guess they just had the rightmost image upside down because, flipping it around, it puts the neurocyte directly in the parietal lobe, which makes sense since that part of the brain deals with a lot of sensory input and houses much of the language centers of the brain. Being the thing that makes it so you can read Strogg language, that would be sensible.
Though, if it is supposed to essentially remote control them, it would make sense to be in the frontal lobe as well.
That being said, there's a nearly 100% chance the person making this particular screen had no idea about any of that and picked that spot, along with pretty much everything else on the screen aside from just "neurocyte implanted" because it looked cool. Because a pulse of 84 bpm would be...uh...pretty extremely low for a man on a MASSIVE amount of adrenaline and 84 bps would be 5040 beats per minute, over 25 times faster than the wing beats of a bee so probably also not exactly on the money, there.

Note
Speaking of Quake, Prime Gaming is giving away GOG keys for Quake 4.

Ah yes, the Stroggification Quake.
Don't give me that look, it's the big thing everyone remembers about Quake 4, asides from maybe using the Doom 3 engine better than Doom 3.

The Quake series is weird because it has three different identities (Ranger's interdimensional funtimes (Quake I and its expansions), the Strogg War (II, IV and Enemy Territory), and the multiplayer subseries (III, Live and Champions)), and only one of them (namely the multiplayer subseries) is explicitly connected to the other two.

Something i don't think i've posted here was these concept arts for a cancelled Q4 expansion:
From what i heard, they were going to do a lot with exploring the Strogg's background.
In general, some of the designs here are cool.
Not just art, there's even screenshots of models in there too.
