Not enough people are talking about Twisters team of queer hillbilly tornado wranglers. That’s a full fruit bowl, including Tyler’s disaster bi cowboy-scientist ass. They’re the rainbow flag of storm chasers, the Young Avengers of meteorology.
What is their story? How did they meet? Did Tyler put an advert out for his crew like ‘must be hot, hets need not apply’?
Need a movie solely focused on their adventures being gay and chasing tornadoes. They were the story.

“We’re trained to be like, ‘If I’m not exceptional, I won’t be loved.’ Certainly, I think that was my thing,” Gatwa shared. “So, yeah, I think I’m just learning now like, ‘Oh, you are allowed to be loved.’ You don’t have to be excellent or aspire to that term, ‘Black excellence’. What the hell?”
He continued, “There’s so much white mediocrity that gets celebrated, and Black people, we have to be absolutely flawless to get half of [that] anyway. So, I’m slowly training myself out of that and being like, ‘No shit. You deserve love just for existing.’ And that has taught me to be a lot more loving as well, in a weird way.”

Tom Hulce at the 56th Academy Awards 1984, as Best Actor nominee for Amadeus
Cause @historianmaybe5 and I were talking about what could have been going through his head at the Oscars, sitting there tense and nervous, also having decided to come out officially should they call him up on the stage. Oh how wonderful it would have been to watch Mr Hulce get up there as a "new rising star", going from virtually being unknown to winning Best Actor for a lead role in one of the greatest movies ever made, declaring himself gay and proud in front of the whole world. Being aware of the potential risk of damaging a promising career before it even took off. And I can't help but wonder what an impact it could have made for the queer comunity back in 1984 during the AIDS epidemic and all. The nervous smile and that kindness in his eyes. Then the explosion of joy, of pure excitement, cheering for his co-star winning the award and my god I just can't admire him enough My sweet king

super enjoyed this documentary about the life of sal mineo and his relationship with james dean. i feel like i knew a BIT about their dynamic onscreen and during the shooting of the film, but i didn't know much about the rest of sal's career, or that he was in fact extraordinarily progressive in his openness about his bisexuality. a really fascinating documentary with a great blend of archive footage and audio interviews.
In October 1955, the seminal film 'Rebel Without a Cause' was released, and sixteen-year-old actor Sal Mineo found himself propelled to international fame. He played the role of Plato - a character who would later be lauded as the first gay teenager on film - and starred opposite James Dean as Jim, the iconic rebel who would influence a generation. The film captured the zeitgeist of the disenfranchised youth of America, but before it could be released, James Dean died in a car accident. His tragic death made him a mythical figure of American culture, and Sal became a star in his wake. This is the story of how Sal navigated his life, career, passions and sexuality through the highs and lows of Hollywood stardom - from starting out as a young teenager on stage, through the unprecedented success of ‘Rebel Without a Cause’, to directing the controversial play ‘Fortune in Men’s Eyes’. Though his life was tragically cut short when he was stabbed to death at the age of 37, Sal nevertheless enjoyed a twenty-year career in the business (working in movies, theatre and television), and made his mark on audiences and those who knew him.

Spoilers for Doctor Who Season 15 Episode 8: The Reality War below
Jesus fucking Christ the BBC royally fucked Ncuti Gatwa over.
The poor man was the first black actor to play a full-time face of The Doctor and the first openly queer actor to play The Doctor, stepping into this role was so damn brave, knowing how the toxic, racist and homophobic parts of the fanbase would react
And what does the BBC and Russel T Davies do? They first annouce Ncuti as The 14th Doctor only to take that back and replace him with David Tennant, the most popular Doctor of the modern era.
That alone was so fucking disrespectful. It was the equivalent of going, "Oh hey, we FINALLY after 60 years have a black actor as The Doctor, letting POC people see themselves the heroic light of The Doctor in Doctor Who but don't worry horrible racist fans he isn't The Doctor in the important anniversary episode"
But no, that wasn't enough for The BBC. Ncuti's seasons got far less attention and marketing than any other modern Doctor and his seasons were cut down to just 8 episodes each, 8 fucking episodes!! Where every other Season (bar the one story season Flux) has had at least 10
And they STILL weren't fucking done! They completely shit on Ncuti for his finale, sidelineing Belinda for half her season as companion, dumping her as the mother to a character she never fucking met and replacing Ncuti with Billie Piper, the most popular companion of the modern era.
This absolutely reeks of Russel T Davies' favouritism, his love of appearing clever and pulling back his favourite actors. But all it does is paint him as at minimum, an unintentional racist and, at worst, someone who deliberately overshadowed the first full-time black Doctor with two white actors, both of whom are fan favourites.
Fuck the BBC, FUCK Russel T Davies and sorry to say but fuck Billie Piper and David Tennant too. They may not have written the scripts, but they sure as shit chose to take the roles of 14 and 16, knowing they'd overshadow Ncuti
Ncuti, baby, honey. I am so so sorry. You deserved so much better and much more screentime. It was an absolute joy, pleasure, and honour to watch you as The Doctor, and your portrayal of 15 will live on in my heart. Thank you, sir

Dr. Thomas Baudinette about the question of real (dating) ships among BL actors
posting this because there is still this very "people who think there are actual real couples among the BL actor ships are delulu" vs "Every single BL actor ship is real because they look at each other in RL" kind of mindsets going on... when the truth is somewhere in the middle:

(x)
Tired of the black and white thinking. In an industry as big and diverse as this of course there can be some actors or ships even who could develop feelings for each other. Especially if they have to constantly act that close and romantically with each other, even outside a series. It is natural to sometimes feel things in intimate scenes too or get influenced by the characters feelings an actors plays. A (western) intimacy coordinator & acting coach said that on yt (talking with actors about that is part of their job). It just depends how the actors want to react / deal with it. Relationships between actors isn't recommended due to work complications it can bring.
But some thai actor ships at least have some special bound that goes between friendship, coworker and sort of dating (since they kind of work-date). It is not impossible that they could actually end up dating for real and not saying it. BUT that doesn't mean that's the case for all of them. You most likely won't notice the ones who actually date for real if they try to hide it (they are most likely not that overacting flirty on cam)

It's June, it's time for Pride themed posts, and One Piece gets plenty so let's talk about Norio Imamura
Ivankov is one of the largest (in multiple ways) examples of canon queer characters in One Piece and I want to talk about the real life drag performer who inspired him. The Rocky Horror Influence is obvious in all the Newkama but a stage actor was the inspiration for Iva.
Tumblr media
This is from SBS Volume 58, where Oda explains that Norio Imamura (the original voice actor for Iva) was also the model and name inspiration for Iva. Also that meeting him inspired Oda to write more characters like Bon-chan so is also the cause of so many queer characters in One Piece.
Norio Imamura no longer voices Iva or gets much voice work do to a controversial photo posted on his personal blog and subsequent arrest under strict Japanese censorship laws (he was showing his full body tattoos and his penis was visible.)
Happy pride Norio Imamura who helped bring so much canon queerness into One Piece

Stunning, gorgeous, fabulous darling Tom Hulce in an interview in 1996, for The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (Bobbie Wygant Archive)
At random moments, my heart fills with overwhelming joy whenever I remember that Mr Hulce is an actual Disney prince, and that he has been MY Disney prince since i was 11 years-old. I know I wish he did some more musicals during his acting career, but I can't deny a part of me is very pleased that he chose to do it one time only, and THIS is the one he chose to do, and by god did he make the right choice..! How incredible it is he graced us with his gorgeous voice, in what can be considered Disney's most ambitious and daring animation project, to sing perhaps one of the most spectacular scores they ever wrote. Words can't describe how incredibly happy all this makes me.

‘She watched us make out … then my girlfriend gave me a high five’: Maria Thattil on the reality of sex scenes
Link to the article from Stellar Magazine
To some, sitting with your partner to watch yourself make out with another might be uncomfortable. To me, it’s just part of a job – and I scored a high-five from my girlfriend afterwards.
You see, I recently joined the cast of Neighbours playing Amira Devkar and had the pleasure (pun intended) of an on-screen romance with Nicolette Stone, played by Hannah Monson.
To viewers, the scene was uninhibited, passionate, intimate and electric. The reality? Technical, safe and most importantly, comfortable.
Many people aren’t familiar with an intimacy coordinator (IC) but I credit those scenes to Bayley Turner of Create Consent, who was on set with us. Intimacy coordination is a new field; according to CBS News, the first production to hire and credit a designated IC was the 2017 HBO drama The Deuce.
Today, there are more than 100 certified ICs working in film and TV, and I’m grateful.
Before I worked with one, the discourse I noticed about ICs was varied, with big Hollywood names weighing in.
Michael Caine asked “What are they?” and argued that in his day, “You just did the love scene and got on with it without anyone interfering.”
Filmmaker Mia Hansen-Løve referred to them as “virtue police”, and Michael Douglas likened them to “executives taking control away from filmmakers”.
Sean Bean claimed ICs “spoil the spontaneity” of sex scenes and Jennifer Aniston – who said she was from “the olden days” of filming – argued that having an IC ask if you’re OK is uncomfortable when shooting those scenes “is awkward enough”.
To echo Emma Thompson’s sentiments, I think ICs are “fantastically important”.
These scenes shouldn’t be “spontaneous” – I, for one, wouldn’t want to be touched unexpectedly. As an actor, your job is to make them look fluid, sensual and natural, and ICs play a crucial role in this. They choreograph intimacy safely.
They help you establish boundaries, rehearse sounds, coordinate touch and design the intimacy so your private self is protected. Like a fight or dance scene, you then perform the “choreography” freely.
In our scene, viewers saw passionate kissing, touching and moaning. Behind that were dedicated sessions where our IC got us comfortable with being physically close, and facilitated conversation about what zones of our bodies we were/weren’t comfortable having touched.
We rehearsed every moment, coordinated movements, practiced sounds and regularly checked in with each other.
Having the IC there ensured that we were protected to enact an intimate interaction without offering up our private selves, because all we did was perform a series of technical movements.
ICs play a crucial role in an industry that’s rife with sexual abuse.
An environment where actors are empowered to have a say and consent to what they’re performing creates a safe space where no-one is taken advantage of. It also protects from power imbalances on set.
My first intimate scene wasn’t as graphic as one could be, but I’m nonetheless grateful to Bayley and the Neighbours production team for fostering a safe environment, so the scene could be achieved professionally and respectfully. It’s not every day your job requires orgasmic simulations, but when it’s achieved so safely, a high five is in order.
Which is what – like me and my girlfriend – Hannah and I did after we finished.
Job well done.
