Mikey Goes To Oz

<Time spent: 49 hours 17 minutes>

When Mikey takes some time away from a loud family squabble he accidentally ends up getting “flushed” down the sewers. This winds up sending him to the colorful land of Oz where he meets a good witch, a wicked witch, a brainless scarecrow, a heartless Tinman, a cowardess lion, and a powerful wizard, all disguised behind very familiar faces.

A canon adjacent spin off set before the season one finale but after they discover Splinter is Lou Jitsu

I wanted to fit each of the boys into their “you’ve had this all along” category. Leo isn’t brainless, in fact he’s pretty clever with a street smart, people reading ability on par with Donnie’s intelligence. Donnie isn’t heartless, he just has a tough time expressing his feelings. They are complex and unalgorithic but he can get just as excited or sad or angry as anyone, as much as he may deny it. Raph isn’t a coward, but being brave sometimes means admitting you’re scared and that you maybe don’t have all the answers. You dont have to be strong all the time and you don’t have to do it by yourself.

In the movie Dorothy’s journey home is also a representation of her running away. The important thing was to remember there were people who cared about her. Mikey is experiencing a similar phenomenon, wanting the escape the bad vibes in the lair. His “you’ve had it all along” is interesting because it is an object, since the Ruby kneepads could’ve taken him home the whole time. And sometimes getting home means going on a journey only to realize you never left.

I put April as Glinda because Glinda appears as a defender of the weak, and I see April in a similar light. Always willing to help and beat someone up if it is so required. Splinter as The Wizard of Oz represents Splinters own willingness to hide behind different personas, his running from the past and the pulling back of the curtain for Mikey in timeline. The Wizard grows through the movie, albeit quickly, and ends up leaving Oz to go home leaving his legacy with the scarecrow, the Tinman, and the lion. In this case the passing of the baton to his sons.

Meanwhile Draxum as the wicked witch felt much more how Mikey sees Draxum at this time in the show, mostly just an antagonistic force who wants something from them. Fun fact: I imagine throughout this dream, Draxum is uninterested in being the wicked witch but is pressed into it via plot. Hence his disinterest in being “melted.”

Additional characters not pictured: Big Mama as the Wicked Witch of the East (those were her Ruby kneepads!!) and Todd as the Mayor of Munchkin Land. If you can think of more, feel free to leave them in the comments or tags.

These little mushroom guys have been happily living in my brain for a bit so when I learned a new way to paint/render stuffs I had to test it out on them! They were incredibly fun to draw! I love their designs so much!! Like Raph still having his little snaggletooth? Genius! Mikey's freckles? Adorable! Also, you can't really see it in this painting but Raph has these small red diamonds down his arm and I love them! Thank you so much for making these adorable little guys!

While I don't have a problem with Haarleps existence, I don't like that Raphael is reduced to a joke on his behalf as if Haarlep is a replacement of equal value and he talks about Raphael with a wink as if it's expected of the player that we share his resentment for him. From a gameplay perspective the decision to implement a shapeshifter character was probably made for the purpose of being able to have "Raphael" shift into a woman so that dudes could get another romance scene as well. I'm saying this because the animation of that particular scene is clearly made with that dynamic in mind and only works if it's the female Haarlep on male player model or two males. Which is perfectly fine of course! But the end result we got is that men get both Mizora and Haarlep, while from your average womans pov it's just silly and pointless. So I think to make it more fair, the real Raphael should've been left as an option for the girls and those who prefer him. Could've had both.

I still can't believe I lost all my progress because I didn't think twice when I was busy trying to combine two frames and ended up deleting it all...

I'm not fixing that WIP. It stays abandoned now.

So here's what I was supposed to give-

I was mostly inspired by @neonross's (sorry for the ping-) versions of Raphael and Gabriel and wanted to make my own versions of them! but then that mess happened, so like I said- they stay as WIPS.

Also personal hc of mine: those in certain positions in the heavenly order bear specific kinds of halos, especially in this one scene-

Except for Emily and Sera, there are several angelic figures here with matching halos, which I like to believe mean they share similar roles in the hierarchy of angels. I also believe that, similar to sinners entering hell with unique features and/or powers, winners get the same idea of getting unique halos along with new designs for their forms.

they should add an option where if you sign the contract with Raphael you can grab him by the waist and dip him low and kiss him so sweetly and he’s just more confused and then disappears for a while so you can’t contact him and then shows up days later like nothing happened and it’s never addressed. Until he maybe sends you a letter at the epilogue camp or something but you have to do several weird steps to decipher the writing and once you read it it catches fire and turns to ash immediately. Where’s that addition, larian?

I think my new silly headcanon is we don’t realize how bad our security is and Raphael is making Korilla work overtime to keep our asses alive while we sleep.

Voss was only let through because Raphael needed to plant the seeds for the hammer but considering how much we sleep through any given night (SH and Lae’zel trying to kill each other, Lae’zel trying to kill us, Astarion biting and potentially killing us, Durge’s gruesomely murdering a bard right next to Karlach’s tent, etc), poor Korilla is the one keeping outside forces from just annihilating us in our sleeps.

Because of the implication that Karlach didn't know any of the more devious shit Gortash was doing while she was employed by him, I HC that he sold her at a point where he couldn't be as covert in his private dealings. Like it was a point where she clearly was going to be a liability and she's good. Too good. Like to her core.

And there isn't a whole lot different between himself and the tiefling rascal he took in so she could support the parents she loves so much. I think that at a certain point he'd just be kinda aggravated because, to him, her view of the world is so idealistic. I like the idea of him having a little bit of petty jealousy, but I can't see that being the motivator for the sale. I think he really believed she was strong enough to handle it - because he was strong enough to withstand the hells - and wanted her to be humbled, in a way. he needed her to have a taste of the real world, so to speak, because his understanding is that it's a cutthroat world and all people are pawns, regardless of age or relation.

and then she comes back, broken, sure. she has her whole thing where she can consume the soul coins, which ultimately has her viewing lost souls as tokens/pawns in the way gortash sees all people, but she clearly struggles with it and it wasn't a choice she made, but something zariel pushed on her so she could survive.

regardless, karlach's optimism is unwavering and she's still so vivacious. She's angry, understandably so, she has scars, she's done shit she isn't proud of, but she, herself, was never corrupted. when she escapes, she immediately goes full hero mode, she just has the burden of the soul coins to bear bc NO ONE can come out of that situation completely unscathed. and remember the types of friends she made in the hells!!! her one only helps her if it comes with a double-edged sword. despite that, she doesn't prevent it from allowing her to bond with the companions.

so she comes back proof that you can go through what Gortash did and come out mostly in tact. you may be hurt, she shouldn't have HAD to go through that, but she's fighting for a better future for herself (even if that means dying to not return to avernus). Unlike Gortash, she doesn't need to bring the world to heel to pay for the cruelty it showed her.

in fact, everything she went through just makes her appreciate the little good in her life even more and motivates her to aggressively protect her friends.
