every so often i look up RCDart/rorpie and its almost invariably a mix of people dunking on their infamous hyper sexualized trans artwork and extremely questionable creative choices in artwork around the point they dropped off the radar but the thing about it is that I was around when they were more active in the Adventure Time fandom and, they were never a friend of mine but they WERE someone always on my radar. not quite a big name fan, but a pretty prominent person in the fandom all the same

and the thing about it i noticed and that tended to make any kind of direct contact with them awkward is, well there's no particularly nice way to say it. even at their best, rorpie was kind of an asshole.

extremely confrontational, prone to harsh and even vitriolic remarks with complete strangers over very little; it was kind of the Tumblr sense of humor that's all about escalation that becomes extreme rudeness and nastiness to complete strangers, but Rorpie was, at least from what i saw, pretty much like that all the time. I think a few people in the extended AT circle I was somewhat part of (because of my friendships with luminaries like Finn-theheroguy, who if i recall right didn't really know her, or at least he never said that he knew her personally, though I think he knew people who did) talked to her more or less friendly-like, but I always saw rorpie's posts and kept thinking 'god what an asshole'

like, they were one of those people who seem completely incapable of interacting with ANYONE or talking about anything without constantly complaining, in that really insidious way; the kind of blog where, if you're on there too long, it feels like having your brain dunked in acid. It was, to me, a gradual process after they went to some kind of art school that their art style shifted, but it wasn't JUST the art style; I definitely remember Rorpie at the time being a bit of a fandom darling whose art was hugely liked, and they could get away with doing pretty much whatever they wanted because they were a big deal in the AT fandom art crowd of the time

and then, she pushed her luck.

Her art style became what it is now, her success at the art school REALLY inflated her ego and she leaned way harder into those headcanons and art styles the memes will now always remember; she kept interacting with people with that really unpleasant way I described, and as people grew more uncomfortable with what her art style had become (and, if I recall, she had largely drifted away from the AT fandom, and that crowd of supporters had moved on or was no longer there), they started to lash out against her, and the rest is history.

Ultimately I can't help but think that a lot of this was ultimately the result of letting one's success go to your head, but most of all constantly being an acidic asshole to everyone. People who weren't targeted by it thought it was funny (And this was back in the day where being like that all the time was just a regular joke; the nastiness has REALLY loosened up), and then one day they, and Rorpie, found out that being on the recieving end wasn't so fun.

To this day, whatever lessons may be learned by this, I keep thinking that constantly being nasty to everyone has a poor consequence when people decide its not funny anymore.

Almost put rcdart as an option on that bad art style meme but I didn't want to end up encouraging accidentally racist art from people but if the racism hadn't been a thing you bet your bippy it would have been the final option

I believe you’re thinking of rcdart. I wrote an open letter to them about issues in their art, which got more reblogs than I intended and somehow ended up on a know your meme page about them. Old sins! Hope this helps.
