COLLINA STRADA SS25 “Touch Grass”
collection description: “You know the meme, ‘touch grass?’ The world feels like a battlefield in so many ways right now and I think we can all reconnect and find that peaceful center by touching grass,” explained Creative Director Hillary Taymour – who tapped directly into the relatable and more relevant-than-ever-before meme to inform the label’s latest collection. // “The concept of ‘Mother Earth’ was a big inspiration,” continues Taymour, who envisioned a flowy, floral presentation of femininity across all aspects of the show.
from this hypebeast article
my overall rating: 7.4/10
this collection was very well thought out imo. it had a meaningful message and concept behind it, and i liked the diversity. i’d give them an A for inclusivity. it featured really gorgeous pieces that i’d love to wear/style. the layering incorporated into the pieces was really well executed, probably one of my favorite things about this collection. however, it didn’t really do anything i thought was particularly wowing.. (it takes a lot to wow me i think) the prints and textures were definitely very unique but as i mention later on, i don’t think i’m the target audience for this collection as a whole. so yeah :p
(click keep reading for all images i included!)

LIVE LAUGH LOVED.
this section will almost exclusively include looks that i thought were styled down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i am obsessed with the prints of these two pieces! the tube top, underneath that cross-body thing, has like bedazzling which is soo cute. as for the other dress, i love a high neckline. i've been anti-asymmetry for a while now, but i think it's executed beautifully here. also green lady, tres adorable. how could we hate?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love patterns! i love texture! and these looks have it all. i really like the blue dress being high-low, very cute. second photo, its the pants, these pants are calling me. i need them. they're beautiful. you could very easily style these up or down, and i love that. the shirt is fine. and again these pants!! it's something about how they flow, the pattern, the colors. its really nice. the shirt is cool. i'd probably pair it with a big floofy skirt to give it some shape on the sides? idk. cool concept tho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the lace pants. the layering, the texture. it's deffo not something i would wear (at least i don't think) but i could appreciate someone else wearing it. i would love to see this in a different color palette. that is all. the dress is giving wedding. maybe not the bride. but this is very wedding coded to me. i love the length and the sheer material (can y'all tell idk what things are??) its so pretty. but it's also casual, love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this ensemble?? i have no idea what it is really but i think its gorgeous. the texture and colors go together real bad. this strapless dress is sexy. the length, the print, the neckline, gagged me. model ate.
♱ ───────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───────────── ♱
tres cute
this section will almost exclusively feature looks that i only enjoyed elements of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) i enjoy the print, otherwise eh imo. 2) hear me out, wide legged pinstriped jorts, without the lace?? would've been a cool concept. not a fan of the lace. the top is fine. 3) the length of the pants? i actually like this look but there's something off about it that i can't pinpoint.. it might be the pants. there's a lot happening there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) the sleeves unfortunately. i've been known to love a big long sleeve, but these are not my fav. 2) the shape of the dress is very ugly, hate to use that word but its my opinion. 3) i actually like this dress, but the ruffle placements are hideous. i hate that they don't overlap in a way that hides the gaps, or connect into a full loop around the body.
♱ ───────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───────────── ♱
it's a naur from me...
this section will exclusively feature looks that i do not like/understand
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) the fit is absolutely atrocious. and the fabric looks wrinkly.. idk could just be me. casual grandparent slay. 2) individually i think these pieces are nice. together? naur <3. 3) this look actually just makes me upset. there's another iteration of this with a pink bag and i like that one a lot more. this look feels unfinished. it needed some accessories at the very least.
♱ ───────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───────────── ♱
viewing thoughts:
(i like this name better, trying a slightly diff format as well)
this collection made me cry. not because of the pieces necessarily, but the casting choices are so human. the green lady really was the nail in the coffin. it feels real, like things a real person would choose to wear. i love loved the styling for the most part. the long hair touching the ground, i need to figure out how to make that my next hair style, immediately.  i loved the video editing, the opening with the model doing flips… it was very cute, very aesthetic.
the venue: 5/5
its green, its pretty, its unique (to me). i love seeing brands do more than just clothing, the viewing environment for the collection is very important as well.performance arttt. j’adore.
casting: 10/10 no complaints here what so ever.
now as far as the actual clothing.. it may not be my particular cup of tea (generally), though i do think the pieces are really pretty. the flounce/ruffle situations are gorgeous. i love the lace trim on some of the dresses. i do like the color palette quite a bit. the styling choices are serving a wee bit of cunt, like palatable cunt. one thing i did notice (i looked at their website as well) fitting… tailoring.. i know that not every brand is known for their tailoring but i’ve heard (don’t shoot the messenger) that at the very least, the items should fit very well. again i know this is a small brand, just something i noticed.
the twead? wool? i have no idea what these pieces are made of… but i may be a sucker. i love the texture of them. they look really soft and i like the contrasting dark colors. the pants! i love a good wide leg pant, so bad. i don’t know if i just have an unhealthy affinity towards dark clothes (i do) but the latter portion of the collection i enjoyed so much. like these black flowy dresses and the patterns. tres beau.
♱ ───────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───────────── ♱
SUSTAINABILITY!!! 1.5/5
i’m fairly sure that this is the rating i gave robert wun (those reviews haven't come out). and it's only because there's not a lot of information about how they're being sustainable, where they're sourcing their materials from, or anything tbh. i don't doubt that they're being sustainable. i just wish there was more details given. i truly believe in consumers having the right to know what they’re purchasing, how it’s being made, why it's priced a certain amount, how much of that is associated with the brand name. i think consumers should be aware and given a choice in whether they participate in a companies sustainability, or lack there of. i'm all for informed decision making. i think the information should be very easily accessible, and informative. but i found on collina’s website that it doesn't really link to anything so there's no way to actually prove what they're saying, it sort of just goes into "shop this", "shop our stock", and i'm not a fan of that.
they do have a partnership with ‘the or’ foundation, which is based in accra, ghana. again, there's not really much proving that what they're saying is true. i don't doubt that what they're saying is true, there’s just no evidence.
i will continue to reference diesel when it comes to this topic because i strongly believe that the way that they go about sustainability and being open with their sustainable practices is and should be industry standard. i should know who certified you. i should know the methods that you're using to dye fabrics, how we’re handling waste management, the closed end cycle of the clothing produced. (so far, i have yet to find a brand with as much info available, so they’re my go-to as of now).
that is all friends :)

Kind of crazy how convoluted certain aspects of American politics are and how little the average person knows outside of whatever political ideology they’ve been around. To this day so many people don’t know Hillary Clinton won popular vote or had a massive voter turnout I can’t tell you how many times I’ve met people who are stunned to hear this because they genuinely thought she lost because people wouldn’t vote for a woman + didn’t know it was possible to win popular vote and lose the election.
A while back I was having a conversation with my friend and I said I wasn’t voting for Joe Biden and he said “you’re voting for trump?” Which did initially shock me and I said no I’m voting third party and he said “what other party is there?”. There is a level of ignorance that some people can maintain their entire lives because they don’t really have a reason to think things are more complicated than they appear which often comes from a combination of having the ability to ignore things because they don’t affect you but also the lack of education and lack of easy access to education on basic structures and processes and practices of our government. I am both proud of my own effort but also aware I am lucky to have had the ability to get into politics young and form my own thoughts and opinions early.
there’s a lot of people who fundamentally agree with many aspects of leftism and oppose the actions of the American government but either are not fully aware of the big picture or don’t use the same terminology to say it. What I will say is the average working class person with an iffy grasp on politics tends to be way more receptive to a lot of different ideas than “liberal in leftist clothing” types who are ready to throw away any advocation for entire groups of people being allowed to stay alive aside the second they think their own rights might have a chance of being threatened

Pickpocket
Tumblr media
Summary: You often pickpocket people in hopes of finding a silver or two. You land a jackpot, but the person you've recently pickpocketed from happens to be Prince Bakugo.
Pairing: Bakugo x f!reader
Part 2; Part 3
Tumblr media
Every now and then, Prince Bakugo liked going undercover in a cloak and a piece of cloth covering the lower half of his face. He enjoyed going to the marketplace without people cheering, bowing, scurrying away and staring at him. He felt more free this way.
He took his time passing by the stalls, Kirishima following not far behind to make sure the prince was safe. Although Bakugo preferred to spend his time in peace and quiet, sometimes he liked the chaos of the weekend market. Vendors shouting slogans of drop in prices, confectioners shoving sweets into his hands in hopes he'd buy some, old ladies fighting each other over who picked up the pumpkin first, kids running around and crashing into his legs. Bakugo loved watching it all unravel from the background instead of being the centre of attention.
His favourite stall was the one selling artefacts and used items. If it was his lucky day, Bakugo would be able to buy a rare stone or an ancient dagger. Once he even found a dragon tooth from that stall. He stood by the stall, eyes skimming through the items the old man had available. Seemed like he didn't have anything eye-catching today.
He was about to step away to leave when someone bumped into his chest. He looked down to see you tear your face away from his chest and step away to glare daggers at him. Bakugo took a moment to let your features in, his eyes darting up and down your figure once. He could tell you weren't exactly from the richest part of the city with your tunic that was losing its colour. It must've been a navy blue colour when it was brand new. He noticed the assortment of knives sitting on your waist. Maybe you were a hunter's daughter?
"Watch where you're going, you old man!" You hissed at him. Bakugo was taken aback. You were the one that bumped into him, and now you were telling him to watch where he was going and had the nerve to call him an old man? Hillarious.
"I ain't the one that bumped into you," he scoffed. "And we're the same age, sweetheart."
"Well, too bad you look like a creepy old man covered up like that." You snorted. Bakugo's eyes lingered on your face, amused. Were you snarky like that all the time? Did you have any idea that you were talking to the prince?
"You don't know who yer talkin' to, brat." Bakugo leaned by the stall, a devilish smile under his mask as he watched you roll your eyes skywards.
"Oh, yeah? Don't go around pretending like you're some prince." You sneered. Bakugo couldn't help but snicker. If only you knew. He let you purposely bump into his shoulder as you walked past him, his head turning in your direction. Now, he was going to make sure to come here again next weekend so he could catch a glimpse of your bratty face.
"Ready to leave?" Kirishima asked, now standing beside him.
"Yeah."
On their way back to the castle, Bakugo found a boy sitting on the dirty roadside with a cup in front of him. Despite how fast the country was recovering from war, there were still people suffering from its aftermath. His hand reached into his pocket, searching for his coin bag. He frowned when he didn't feel it in either of his pockets.
"What's wrong?" Kirishima asked.
"Lost my coin bag," Bakugo tried recalling where he might have lost it. He didn't make any purchases at the market, so he didn't take it out. There weren't any holes in his pockets either. Then he smirked, remembering you bumping into him. It was odd how he standing by the stall, and you still bumped into his chest.
"That damn brat." He didn't need to visit the weekend market again because he'd be seeing you at the castle very soon when his guards brought you to him.

Seeing good points made about how we refer to women in politics with their first name and men with their surname and how it corresponds to viewing women as less professional but I also think that name iconicness and branding is a big factor with how we refer to people.
Like yes, we called Hillary Clinton Hillary but also her husband was literally President of the United States. When people hear Clinton, a lot of them think of Bill Clinton because he was simply a more influential political figure and he was famous first. To differentiate her from her husband, people use her first name.
Kamala is a much more unique, and therefore iconic, name than Harris. Harris is kind of boring. So both people and the campaign themselves lean towards calling her Kamala.
This also applies to men like Bernie Sanders, who's usually called Bernie because it's simply more iconic, so his campaign leaned into it with their branding.
In the UK, Boris Johnson was usually called his first name because Johnson is boring and no one else is called Boris. Rishi Sunak leaned into his first name with his branding (Ready for Rishi), so a lot of people default to that. In contrast, Thatcher is never called Margaret because again, Thatcher is more iconic.
Yes, people often default to calling women their first names in situations they wouldn't with men, but also branding and iconicness play into it because rarer names are more noteworthy, help differentiate public figures and politics is pretty much a popularity contest anyway, so campaigns lean into what resonates with the public, and uniqueness is a part of it.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
September 10, 2024
Heather Cox Richardson
Sep 11, 2024
Former president Trump has always approached debates as professional wrestling events in which the key is not to explain policies or answer questions, but rather to demonstrate dominance over your opponent. In 2016 the Democratic nominee, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, had a hard time countering this strategy effectively because of the many expectations of what was appropriate behavior for a female presidential candidate. In 2020 and then again in the June 2024 “debate,” Democratic candidate Joe Biden’s stutter made it difficult to counter Trump’s scattershot attacks.
The question for Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in tonight’s presidential debate was not how to answer policy questions, but how to counter Trump’s dominance displays while also appealing to the American people.
She and her team figured it out, and today they played the former president brilliantly. He took the bait, and tonight he self-destructed. In a live debate, on national television.
The Harris campaign began the day trolling Trump with a new campaign ad featuring the pieces of former president Barack Obama’s speech at the August Democratic National Convention that concerned Trump. “Here’s a 78-year-old billionaire”—the ad cuts to a photo of Trump in a golf cart—“who has not stopped whining about his problems.” Then a clip of Trump shows him complaining about Harris’s crowds, before Obama notes Trump’s “weird obsession with crowd sizes,” complete with Obama’s hand motion suggesting Trump’s sizes were small. “It just goes on, and on, and on,” Obama says, before the ad shows empty seats and people yawning at Trump’s rallies.
“America’s ready for a new chapter,” Obama says to the overflow crowd cheering at Chicago’s United Center during the Democratic National Convention. “We are ready for a President Kamala Harris!” At the end, even Harris’s standard statement, “I’m Kamala Harris and I approved this message,” sounds like a challenge.
This morning, the Harris campaign began running the ad on the Fox News Channel.
At the same time, they began running Philadelphia-themed ads across the city on billboards, in the Philadelphia Inquirer, and on food trucks and taxi cabs, sidewalk art, and digital projections making fun of Trump’s fascination with crowd sizes. They showed, for example, a full-sized Philadelphia pretzel labeled “Harris” alongside a piece of one that looked like an upside down U labeled “Trump.”
The taunting might have been behind Trump’s demand for loyalty from Republican lawmakers this afternoon, telling them to shut down the government if he doesn’t get his way on the inclusion of a voter suppression measure in the bill to fund the government. The right has often relied on threats of government shutdowns to try to get their way, but such shutdowns are never popular, and even moderate Republicans are leery of launching one just before an election.
Nonetheless, Trump tried to lock them into such a shutdown, reiterating in a post this afternoon the lie that undocumented immigrants are voting in presidential elections. “If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security, THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION ON THE BUDGET. THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO ‘STUFF’ VOTER REGISTRATIONS WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN—CLOSE IT DOWN.”
Throughout the day, the Harris campaign placed posts on social media showing Harris looking crisp and presidential and Trump looking old and unkempt. And then, for ten minutes in the hour before the debate, the Harris campaign held a drone show over the Philadelphia Museum of Art showing campaign slogans and then turning the words “MADAM VICE PRESIDENT” into “MADAM PRESIDENT.”
Hugo Lowell of The Guardian reported today that Trump’s advisors were concerned ahead of the debate about whether they would get “happy Trump” or “angry Trump,” worrying that a frustrated Trump would engage in the vicious personal attacks that turn voters off. They expressed relief that having the microphones muted when it was not a candidate’s turn to speak would prevent Harris from irritating him with fact checks and snark of her own. Conservative lawyer George Conway noted that it was “[i]nteresting how one campaign is extremely concerned about the emotional stability of its candidate, and how the other is not.”
Harris’s attacks on Trump, including her campaign’s subtle digs at his masculinity, appeared to have accomplished what they set out to. When the two came out on stage, he went straight to his podium, while she strode across the stage, moved into his space, held out her hand, introduced herself and wished him well: “Kamala Harris. Have a good debate.” He muttered in response, “Nice to see you.” Then she took her own spot at the podium. When the debate opened, it was clear that Harris was the dominant figure and that her opponent was “angry Trump.” He would not look at her during the debate.
In her first answer, Harris tried to set out both her own story as a child of the middle class and how she intended to build an opportunity economy for others, lowering food and housing costs and opening the way for more small businesses. It was a lot, quickly, and she looked a little nervous.
Then Trump spoke and it was clear he was going off the rails. His first comment was to suggest Harris was lying, and then to insist that his proposed tariffs will solve everything, although he has the way tariffs work entirely backward: they are paid by the consumer, not by foreign countries. As he followed with a long list of his rally lies, Harris started to smile.
From then on, he continued to produce rally stories full of wild exaggerations and attack Harris with lies in what CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale called “a staggeringly dishonest debate performance from former president Trump.” "No major presidential candidate before Donald Trump has ever lied with this kind of frequency,” Dale said. “A remarkably large chunk of what he said tonight was just not true. This wasn't little exaggerations, political spin. A lot of his false claims were untethered to reality." As Harris spoke directly to the American people, growing stronger and stronger, Trump got wilder and angrier and told more and more crazy stories.
And then, about ten minutes into the debate, Harris baited him. She invited the American people to go to one of his rallies, where “he talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter, he will talk about ‘windmills cause cancer.’ And what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.”
Trump lost it. He defended his rallies, said Harris couldn’t get anyone to attend hers and has to bus in attendees (in reality, her rallies are packed and he is the one who reportedly hires attendees), and then, in his fury, repeated the lie about immigrants eating pets. When a moderator fact-checked that story, he fought back, saying he heard it on television.
And from then on, Harris kept baiting him while explaining her own policies directly to the camera, and he took the bait every single time. He ran down every rabbit hole and appeared unable to finish a thought. Notably, he refused to say he would not sign a national abortion ban and admitted that after nine years of promising one, he had no health care plan (he has, he said, “concepts of a plan,” and if they pan out, he’ll let us know in the “not too distant future”).
He threatened World War III and repeated that the U.S. is “a failing nation.” He told a long story about threatening “Abdul,” the leader of the Taliban; in fact, the leader of the Taliban since 2016 is Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada. In response to Harris’s statement that foreign leaders thought he was a disgrace, Trump answered that Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán, who destroyed his country’s democracy and replaced it with a dictatorship, says he’s a good leader. New York Times columnist David French wrote: “It's like she's debating MAGA Twitter come to life.”
The debate moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis of ABC, asked solid questions and corrected the most egregious of Trump’s lies. But as he continued to interrupt and yell at Harris, they increasingly gave him leeway to do so. This meant he spoke more often and for more time than Harris; MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle reported that he spoke 39 times for a total of 41.9 minutes, to her 23 times for a total of 37.1 minutes. But the extra time did him no favors.
By the end of the evening, Harris had delivered a clear message about her hopes to move the country forward beyond years of using race to divide people who have far more in common than they have differences. She promised to develop an economy that will build small businesses and support a growing middle class, while protecting rights, including the right to make reproductive decisions without the intrusion of the state. And she showed the nation that Trump can be baited, that he lies freely and incoherently, and—perhaps crucially—that he is no longer the dominant politician in America.
Immediately after the debate, the Harris campaign continued their demonstration of dominance. Harris-Walz campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon released a statement recapping Harris’s strength and Trump’s angry incoherence. She concluded: “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”
Then things got even worse for Trump.
Music phenomenon Taylor Swift endorsed Harris, telling her 283 million Instagram followers that she felt she had to because of Trump’s earlier reposting of an AI image of her seeming to endorse him. That, she said, “brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
After explaining why she was supporting Harris and Walz and urging her fans to do their own research, Swift signed off: “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”

May I ask why you think Biden stepping down and Kamala being the candidate to be 'good news'? I'm still voting for whoever the Democratic candidate is ofc, but I worry this move threw away the average swingvoter who may have been swayed towards voting blue. I don't see how anyone who may have been okay voting for Biden by virtue of him being an old white dude is gonna be as nice towards a brown woman. I mean, people were too sexist for Hillary, the most milquetoast white woman imaginable. I'd really like to hear your perspective.
Biden has been polling like shit for months, and basically fucking everyone has been calling for him to step out of the race for a while now. It's been the opinion of political experts that he doesn't have much of a shot in this election for a variety of reasons. The vast majority of his own base is incredibly dissatisfied with his stance on Palestine (an understatement), and numbers have been reflecting that he was going to be running against some truly miserable odds because of that.
It is genuinely the best option for him to step out of the race. Literally just about anyone else has a much better shot at winning than Biden did. Kamala included! There was a press conference a while back where someone actually asked him if he'd step down if Kamala polled better, and he said he wouldn't. Which is extremely worrying, because it demonstrates that he may have been prioritizing his own personal ego over the importance of keeping Republicans out of office this election.
I don't like Biden, and I really didn't like his odds in this race. Nobody else did, either. The fact that Obama came out and said Biden needs to step down is indication enough that this happened because the situation is really that dire; you have to remember that Democrats are all about Doing Things By The Book, especially in the last 8-ish years when it's been useful for them to be Rule Followers in contrast to the tantrum-throwing chaos machines that Republicans have been. If there was even a sliver of hope for Biden to stay in the race after being chosen in the sad sham that the primaries were this election cycle, they would have kept pushing just to stay within the bounds of convention.
I was ready to push for Biden regardless, because keeping Republicans out of office is priority #1. But I've been saying for a while now that he needs to drop out (just... not on Tumblr, where the dominant conversation is "does voting for a flawed political pawn make you personally responsible for everything they ever do, or should we abstain and let the fascists hijack our government and kickstart several new genocides for the sake of personal moral purity" and I don't think that kind of nuance would be well-received).
I use my grandparents as a litmus test in a lot of this stuff, because they are very much the Typical Liberal Democrats, and their opinions on these things tend to fall in line with the majority of voting Democrats. They absolutely loved Biden in 2020, long before he was chosen as the candidate. They don't anymore. Seeing them lose any and all enthusiasm for voting for this corpse of a man was evidence enough to me that we needed someone else. Ideally someone people can get excited about, because I think folks have mostly lost the perspective we had in 2020 when Trump's nightmarish presidency was fresh in everyone's minds, and served as motivation enough to get to the fucking polls- regardless of who the Dem pick actually was.
From what I understand, Kamala is actually polling better than anyone else right now. I have my fears about voters' racism and misogyny too, but if she's doing well in the polls, I wonder if maybe there's some other factors counteracting that. She's also got name recognition, and the general impression of Being Qualified (because she's been VP already, like Biden was), and Being Likeable (because she comes with the general positive associations of the largely successful Biden presidency, without any baggage of perceived responsibility that Biden himself carries- like Biden did with Obama). She's been flying under the radar while still reaping the benefits of positive associations, and people know who she is. That feels like a good combination, but I don't know enough, and I haven't read enough into it to make any decently educated guesses.
That said, I don't really know as much about who the other potential candidates might be, either. I've heard Pete Buttigieg's name tossed around, but nobody liked his ass back in 2020 and idk if that's actually changed at all. I just know that every politically-knowledgeable/politically-active leftist whose opinion I've heard on the topic has been citing Biden dropping out as the literal only hope for a non-Republican to win this election, and I'm really fucking excited to see that come to fruition. I just hope the Dems pick someone who really does have a good shot.
As a sidenote, I also really hope this marks a shift in how they make decisions, too. It's become increasingly obvious how out-of-touch Democrats are with their voters, and Biden 2024 was just the latest and greatest indicator of exactly how bad that's gotten. The fact that the party has been able to make such an unconventional decision in response to what their voters actually want gives me a little bit of hope that we might be able to influence more change with them going forward than we have been.

I am hopeful.✨
“When you lift up women, you lift up families, you lift up communities, you lift up economies – and you lift up America.”
~KAMALA HARRIS
I remember how I felt when Hillary secured the democratic nomination for president of the United States. It was a sense of “finally!”… finally women can be seen and valued along side men. Respected and revered as men are. So often it’s the women standing behind the men making the decisions, researching and being the voice of reason in many situations, but now we can stand up front, proud and confident. Equal.
When she lost, and lost to such an imbecile and coward, I thought.. I will never see a woman president in my lifetime. The racism and misogyny are just too ingrained in every fiber of this country. I resigned myself to it. I lost hope.
While I worry about that looming never ending roar of racist and misogynist commentary. I am hopeful that the majority of us are sick of that rhetoric. I am hopeful once again, that we are better than that. I am hopeful that the young folks are energized and hopeful and are ready to fight for their future. I know it’s a long shot, but a worthy long shot nonetheless.
I am hopeful. 💙 and I am with her.

I wonder a lot about what the response to covid would have been if Trump hadn't been president at the time. So much of it wasn't a reaction to covid itself, but to what Trump said and did about it. The virus is came from China, Trump shuts down travel from China, the media and left cry racism and go to superspreader events in Chinatown. Trump mentions that some doctors are having success with using hydroxychloroquine, the left calls it psuedoscience and says he wants you to drink bleach. Trump promises vaccines will be ready by the end of the year, the left screams that they don't trust his vaccines. Biden takes office and they want to move on and maybe take some credit for ending the crisis, vaccines are the greatest thing ever now and everyone must get them.
If it had happened under Barack, or Hillary, or Joe, would anyone have thought of covid differently than they did the swine flu? Even ebola and zika and monkeypox only generated a couple of weeks of mild concern when they were making headlines. If they weren't trying to be the anti-Trump, would anyone have bothered with mandates and lockdowns?

I feel like we've lost sight of the fact that... Hillary Clinton was just a profoundly unlikeable person.
- she was practically the textbook definition of "establishment, career politician"
- her husband was, up until 2016, the most widely disliked president in recent American history
- the perfectly timed email scandal didn't help
All this is to say... I don't think misogyny is what did it.
She was a boring candidate with some serious baggage and wasn't offering much of anything. She didn't lose because "America isn't ready for a woman," she lost because she was a uniquely bad choice.
Meanwhile Kamala pretty damn good record as mayor, despite her judicial evils, and to top it all off: she feels like a human when she speaks.

After a while of shopping, the group of three humans and one monster returned to Night Raven College.
The students parted ways for the Prefects, but curious eyes followed Rollo with every step he took. Some looked confused, others sent him unpleasant stares. He could tune them out, no problem.
As they arrived back to Ramshackle dorm, however, a situation they didn't expected happened.
"Irene, Morutel, and... Flamme?"
"YOU AGAIN!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"
Malleus came to visit the dorm on a whim, as usual. But this time, he had Silver and Sebek with him.
Such a sudden encounter with both parties who didn't like each other to begin with would not end well. And of course, it proceeded to turn into an even bigger mess, much to the Prefect duo's dismay.
Sebek yelled out, making everyone in the vicintiy flinch in surprise.
Grim found his hands flew up to cover his ears from the louder than normal yell. Silver quickly stood in front of Malleus, ready to protect him from Rollo. Said perpetrator of this commotion was watching with a blank stare, silently asking the Righteous Judge why he must curse him with an encounter with Draconia the moment he stepped a foot into NRC.
What a cruel joke fate had set him up with.
"Wait- Sebek, no!"
"You are a guest to our school, you should have been treated as such. My apologies for Sebek's rudeness, Flamme." Malleus gave Rollo a simple smile, though it made the hairs on the back of the silverette's neck stand up.
Hillary was quick to stop Sebek, who was roughly grabbing Rollo by the collar of his shirt, and tried to separate them. Meawhile, Irene, as calm as she could manage, explained what had happened to Malleus and Silver.
Understanding the situation, Malleus only then told Sebek to let go of Rollo. If a fight broke out without being stopped, their two Prefects would rain hell on the student body.
No one wanted to be put through their strange spells and unorthodox potions, never again.
"It's... alright, Draconia. I'm fully aware of how dedicated your guards are to you. I just didn't expect them to be so... hasty."
Rollo knew for sure, that smile was anything but sunshine and rainbows. That and the hostile auras exuding from his two knights. However, Rollo couldn't just leave it at that and accept such defeat.
Beside magic, the thing he couldn't stand the most in this world was Night Raven students.
...
..
.
"Alright, that's it...!"
Meanwhile, Hillary had been watching the whole thing like it was her favourite soap opera. Only when Rollo looked as if he would pass out anytime soon from the verbal assault, did she finally went to stop the black-haired girl. She pushed Irene over to Malleus, waiting for her to cool off.
At that moment, Irene felt as if something snapped in her. As everyone were stunned from her sudden burst of anger, she threw at Rollo an astounding myriad of harsh words that she wouldn't normally use.
The more she looked at the silverette, the more pissed she was. From their previous trip to Fleur City until now, Irene rant out all her pent up anger on Rollo.
———————————————————
"That was quite an entertaining sight, Child of Man."
After Irene calmed herself down, she received a round of laughter from Malleus. He didn't expect his Child of Man would have such moments. A bit mean-spirited, sure, but that didn't mean she was any less endearing to him.
"I- Please stop talking, Tsunotarou!!!"
Irene exclaimed in embarrassment, trying in vain to cover her reddened face. Earlier, she was so pissed, she didn't notice her surroundings, and only when Hillary pushed her away did she remember what she did. That was so embarrassing... Why didn't that witch Hillary stop her earlier!?

A Thin Line

Emily Prentiss x reader warnings: language, some medical situations (again, likely some inaccuracies, don't come for me), minor mentions of the Lauren arc/past trauma/anxiety, but mainly fluff and all happy ending! Covers a bingo square for @prentiss-theorem and also is a fix it fic (i guess lol) for s7e15 of the same title. I just thought things were kinda brushed over in the aftermath.... so here we are.
The team had been in San Bernardino, California for nearly a week now solving what was originally thought to be a series of home invasions linked to gangs in the area. It was after piecing together the threads and a victim getting away that you were able to apprehend the unsub, the team was split up between addresses, Rossi, Reid and Hotch over at the unsubs while Morgan, JJ, Emily and you were heading to Councilwoman Hillary Ross’, knowing that she was one of two next likely targets.
Everything seemed to be going to plan as Derek and JJ snuck around to the back of the house, waiting only on you and Em to burst through the front as Emily announced herself, calling out into the house at just the wrong moment. Her eyes darted toward the unsub, noting the gun in his hand, pointed directly at her and only a second later she felt the burning in her shoulder, jolting back into the wall behind her as she groaned.
“Shit!”
“You’re hit.” You stalled, turning back to her and she nudged you in the direction of the unsub.
“I’m fine!”
“He’s upstairs!” You called over to the other two who had burst through the back door, flying up the stairs to take the unsub down.
“Go.” Emily urged, wincing as your hand came up to the injury, pressing against the wound.
“Like hell I’m going anywhere right now.” You muttered, tugging at your radio to call for medics.
“I said I’m fine.” She insisted, nudging at you once more, “you can go.”
“It’s already two on one, I’m sure they’re doing great. And you’re not fine, you just took a bullet Emily.” You could feel her blood slowly seeping in between your fingers, you would’ve been worried if it wasn’t for the amount of attitude you were getting from her, the scowl persistent on her face.
“It’s nothing.” She grumbled, letting out an annoyed sigh at the flashing lights outside as the ambulance pulled up, “oh come on.”
“You’re gonna need stitches at the bare minimum, c’mon.” Gently lifting her arm over your shoulder you helped her outside and to the paramedics.
Much to Emily’s dismay, she was told she would likely need more than just stitches, that an actual doctor would have to take a look at her before making the official decision and before she knew it she was being transported to a hospital. Even more annoying was that her adrenaline was starting to wear off, the fight or flight draining from her body as the pain began to creep in. She winced as she moved on the stretcher, letting out a quiet hiss and felt her cheeks flushing as your gaze shot to her, concern in your eyes.
“We’re almost there.” You murmured softly, reaching to squeeze her hand, almost surprised at the way her hand wrapped around your thumb, keeping you there instead of letting you pull away. The touch brought a comfort Emily needed but wasn’t ready to ask for, wasn’t ready to admit she even wanted. Her gaze remained turned away from you as she let out a low breath, trying to will the immense pain in her shoulder to go away.
The emergency room was a cacophony of noises, patients crying, yelping out, doctors, paramedics and nurses calling out to each other, demanding what they needed for their cases, alarm bells going off, phones ringing off the hook, the whir and beeping of machines. It was completely overstimulating and enough to block out the pain Emily was feeling briefly while they rolled her through the admittance stages. Your hand had been ripped away from hers as they’d unloaded her from the ambulance, leaving a cold spot on her skin as she tried to block out her surroundings. The lights were bright, still harsh even if she closed her eyes, she felt someone prodding at her skin as they started an IV, grimacing as the needle pierced her skin, the smell of rubbing alcohol burning at her nostrils. The noises from the ER were now slightly muffled, but there were as many beeping monitors and fast talking doctors moving around her right now. She could just hear your voice over the hum of noise, giving her credentials and details of what happened to a doctor, conversation talked over by one of the paramedics as she heard her stats being listed off. She was hooked up to another couple of machines, creating more beeping that was beginning to overwhelm her before the room suddenly seemed to empty.
“Paramedics patched you up pretty good.” Your voice rung through the air and her eyes cracked open, looking up at you with hesitancy in her eyes.
“Then we can go, right?”
“No.” You laughed softly, “you’re just not as emergent as some of the other cases. You’re under observation until they can get you a CT to check for internal damages and we’ll go from there.”
“I hate hospitals.” She grumbled, shifting awkwardly on the gurney, hating how on display she felt. The remaining nurse in the room seemed to sense her uncomfortable-ness, moving over and adjusting it so it was propped up and she could sit upright.
“It shouldn’t be too long Agent Prentiss; they’re just waiting for a backlog at the CT machine to clear out.” They explained, giving you both a brief smile before they disappeared from the room.
“Since when do you have a problem with hospitals?” You asked, dropping onto a spare stool, watching her curiously.
“I’ve just spent enough time in and out of them over the past year.” She replied quietly, ducking her gaze as she picked at her fingernails.
“Hey,” your hand reached out, stopping her destructive movements and she glanced toward you, “you’re non emergent, you’re sitting upright and talking and like you’ve been insisting since Ross’, you’re fine.”
“Thanks.” She flashed a tight smile to you and you squeezed at her hand, only pulling away when your phone pinged and you dug it out of your pocket to read the message.
“They got him, finishing up paperwork now. Hotch wants to know if you want them to meet us here.”
“Oh god no!” Emily groaned, wincing as she moved her arm to run a hand over her face, “I don’t need a fucking audience waiting for me. Tell him they can go home, hell, you can go with them.”
“Well tough titty.” You pocketed your phone, “I’m not going anywhere. You got shot; I’m not leaving you here alone.”
Emily felt a warmth spreading through her chest, knowing that she had someone by her side for the entire thing, unlike last time, she wasn’t facing this on her own. She felt her heart start to calm down rather than racing in her chest, sighing softly as her body relaxed into the stretcher. She was fine, she was going to be fine.
“You’re too nice to me, you know that.” She rolled her head to look at you, a dopey smile on her face and you practically snorted.
“I think those drugs are starting to kick in Prentiss.”
She frowned, pouting at you and you laughed again, this time glancing away as you prayed she was too distracted to pick up on the thudding of your heart in your chest.
Okay. Maybe the warmth spreading through her was the painkillers, but at least she wasn’t focusing on the pain in her shoulder and the terror of being trapped in a hospital anymore.
Though that sense of calm and comfort only lasted the next hour. The results from the CT were exactly what Emily didn’t want to hear.
“Surgery?!” She protested, “you can’t be serious! Can’t you just leave it in?”
“No.” The doctor chuckled softly, “that risks more damage than taking it out.”
“So just rip it out now, here.”
“I do that and you’re gonna hate me for how much pain your in.” They countered.
“Full blown surgery just seems like a complete waste of time and resources.” Emily commented, “for something as trivial as this?”
“Agent Prentiss, I can assure you it’s a very simple procedure and it won’t take very long at all. We’ll have you patched up and out of here by morning with some pain killers.”
“No I—”
“If there’s an issue with pain killers, general anesthesia isn’t in the same, you’ll most likely sleep it off and only feel a little bit groggy when you wake up from being under.”
“No, that’s the part I don’t want.” Emily felt like her heart was beating out of her chest, her throat tight and she wasn’t fully able to catch her breath. The beeping next to her seemed to be getting louder with each moment that flickered by and she was sinking into a nightmare where she couldn’t tell tonight apart from the last night she’d spent in a hospital.
“Em…” Your voice was soft, your hand coming up to squeeze at hers gently, thumb rubbing reassuringly, a cool touch on her burning skin. “Just breathe for me, okay?” You turned to the doctor, “is there any way you could do this with a local anesthesia or something? Something where she doesn’t have to be asleep?”
“There likely isn’t a doctor who would.” He replied, “the CT didn’t give full visibility, if an artery gets nicked we’d have to put her under in a rush and adding extra things on the to do list in a situation like that isn’t ideal. I didn’t see anything in her medical history about a reaction to anesthesia.”
“It’s not exactly medical.” You replied, feeling Emily’s hand squeezing at yours.
“I don’t have the greatest track record with being put under.” She muttered and the beeping on the heart monitor started to increase again.
“Hey…” you shifted from your spot on the stool so you were perched on the edge of the gurney, grabbing her other hand, “look at me.” You waited for a moment until she actually looked up at you, the fear in her eyes slowly melting away as you shot her a small smile, “you need to stop deflecting and shutting down. They’re just trying to do their jobs and get you outta here healthy and in one piece, and that’s exactly what’s going to happen. You’ve got a bullet in your shoulder and the longer it’s in there the more risk you’re at, so let’s do this, okay? You’re not alone, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere okay? I’ll take care of you. I’ll be as close by as I possibly can the entire time, I mean, they’ve gotta give us some leeway, we are federal agents.” You raised a brow in the direction of the doctor who let out a huff of a laugh mixed with a sigh.
“I’ll have someone escort you to the gallery.”
“Thank you.” You nodded, “And like you being knocked out is gonna have me running off, I promise. I’ll be there the whole time and when you wake up.”
Emily let out a long low breath, the tightness in her chest finally easing as chewed on her lip, “okay. You better not be lying, if I wake up on the other side of the country you’ll be the one with a bullet lodged in your shoulder.”
“Em!” You scolded with a laugh, watching as a small smile finally broke out on her lips.
Emily focused on her breathing and remaining calm, listening to your voice as you walked with them all the way down to the OR floor. She wasn’t even sure what you were rambling on about, you always had the most ridiculous stories from when you babysat your nephew and they were mindless enough yet also wild enough that it would steer her mind away from the thought of being put under again. You squeezed her hand once more, saying a quick ‘see you soon’ before you were taken up to the gallery and you watched the way Emily’s eyes flicked toward you as she counted down from ten, letting out a breath to know that you were there, watching over her and this would be over before she even knew it.
The low beeping and dull ache in her shoulder were what roused her first, shifting slightly in the bed with a quiet groan, trying not to agitate her shoulder too much. Without opening her eyes she knew there was a soft light coming from somewhere in the room, much nicer than the glare of the fluorescent overheads and the next thing her ears picked up was the sound of a page of a book being turned before the creaking of a chair.
“Em?” Your voice whispered into the night, leaning forward against the side of the bed and she groaned, her eyes fluttering open.
“Shit still sucks.” She complained, pushing herself up to sitting and you let out a chuckle.
“How’s the pain?”
“Not too bad.” She swallowed, reaching out for the glass of water on the nightstand. As she fully woke up and her eyes adjusted to the light in the room she was able to take you in, spotting the bags under your eyes, the slight redness in them and the fact that you’d somehow snagged a hospital issued hoodie that was about three sizes too big to curl up in. “How late is it?” She asked and you looked at your watch.
“Almost six.” You replied with a tired yawn.
“You haven’t slept yet.” It wasn’t a question; it was an observation and you shrugged.
“I wanted to be awake when you came to, doctor said it wouldn’t be too long. And I definitely wasn’t about to sleep while you were in surgery, besides, it was pretty cool to watch.”
Emily observed you for a moment, her eyes drilling into you so much that you ducked your gaze, picking up your own drink to distract yourself, praying the heat in your cheeks wasn’t noticeable in the low light of the room.
“Why would you do this much for me? You could have left with the rest of the team.”
“I promised you wouldn’t be alone. I care about you, I wanted you to feel safe, I mean, you’re my… friend.” You shrugged it off, picking at the sleeve of your hoodie.
“Okay, now who’s shutting down and deflecting?” She asked with a tease in her voice, prodding at your arm and you let out a soft sigh, glancing back up at her with a playful glare in your eyes.
“Being in the hospital alone sucks enough on its own. The last time you had surgery you woke up across the world completely isolated and if that was me I would’ve been terrified. I know you don’t want to admit it and I’ll never mention it to the rest of the team but you were scared earlier and I wanted to make sure you knew I would be here for you, no matter what. And I… would like to hope that if the tables were turned that you’d do the same for me?”
“Are you kidding me?” A laugh burst from her lips, “of course I would! I really don’t think you have any idea how much you mean to me. You still being on the team and being around was the main reason I decided to stay, no matter how awkward it was with everyone else.”
“Now you’re just making stuff up.” You ducked your gaze once again, this time no doubt the blush on your cheeks noticeable.
“Not at all.” Emily’s finger curled under your chin, turning your eyes up to her, “you were an absolute sweetheart today without even needing to ask and that was exactly what I needed, even if I am too stubborn to say anything. When we get back I’d really like to pay you back by taking you to dinner.”
“Really?” Your brow furrowed, wondering if she was finally stepping across the line the two of you had been toeing since she’d gotten back.
“Yeah.” She softly pinched at your chin, “you can read me better than anyone else. You know me almost better than I do some days and… I really care about you too.”
“Okay.” You laughed softly, the smile remaining on your cheeks, “well then I think that sounds great.”
“Great.” She smiled across at you, “it’s a date.” She gently tugged at your arm, “now c’mon, you need to get some sleep and there’s plenty of room up here.”
With a small laugh you shifted, kicking off your shoes and sliding under the blanket into Emily’s embrace, careful not to nudge her left arm too much. You let out a small yawn as you nestled into her uninjured shoulder, her free arm wrapping around you as she relaxed back into the bed, a sigh of relief finally feeling you in her arms. There was absolutely no doubt in her mind that she was completely safe and wouldn’t have to worry about being alone ever again, not with you around. Her lips brushed against the top of your head; a feather light kiss left on your hair as she spoke.
“Thank you.”
