i think my key issue with the sanitization of death eater characters is that it feels like people do not see their stories as tragic or empathize with the characters until we have a hc that's like "actually they were morally good the whole time!"

regulus black and severus snape are tragic characters and child soldiers no matter what side they were "really" on. even barty crouch jr, who may not have been groomed into being a death eater, is tragic when you spend a second to consider his relationship with his father. there are plenty of death eaters who we know are taking after their fathers in joining the cult. lucius malfoy, who was a prefect when the marauders enter hogwarts, most likely spread the death eater ideology, since the ideology is just a more extreme version/logical endpoint of what already existed in the wizarding world.

to me, these ideas are not headcanons, because they are heavily implied by the text. when jkr mentions malfoy in the deathly hallows that is not for no reason.

mallfoy's acceptance of snape and position of power are both highlighted in this sentence. we can infer that snape felt a sense of community for the first time in Slytherin. with malfoy as a prefect we can infer that the culture of Slytherin house lifted up bigots and those with an important family name.

this is a culture that breeds more bigotry. we know that Dumbledore did not step in to stop this cultural development in the 90s, after already seeing what it could do!!! so we can infer that he did not in the 70s. so a bunch of children were left alone in an echo chamber of hate. of course some of them became fanatics!!!

this doesn't mean they shouldn't be held accountable. but we cannot expect children to overcome cultural and political hegemony all alone. like.... that's just not how the world works. and it's tragic that children are fodder for fascist's wars, especially when the fact that the children were abused or neglected makes them more vulnerable to be fodder.

regulus and severus weren't treated as people, their humanity was denied by the fascist they served, bc that's how fascism works. exploring their characters as they are in canon, with full humanity, without needing to change their stories to see that humanity, is much more interesting to me. it is much more in the spirit of redemption and restoration.

Me smacking myself with a newspaper: You can’t know for sure that the gay subtext in the Jeeves books was intentional and it would be bad practice to declare intentionality on behalf of a dead author who can’t confirm or deny it. The fact that Jeeves and the Tie That Binds was the first Jeeves book to be published after the UK legalized homosexuality is probably just a coincidence. I’m sure he wasn’t even thinking about that.

the parallels between Shun&Toki relationship and Kusuke&Kusuo relationship always get me

Toki is way 'better' than Shun (at least physically)

and Kusuo is way 'better' than kusuke( in every single thing)

one thing that rlly aggravates me abt this website is that Rarely do ppl see a post and stop and go "hm, is there context that I'm missing?" bc I understand that like. most posts we see are reblogs & you usually don't follow op, right. so things Will blow up without their context. but sometimes a post is a Part of a much longer, nuanced conversation someone's been having on their blog for days/months/years.

I just think it's like genuinely unfair to expect people to word every single post they make with every possible caveat in existence to make their point clear to people that don't follow them In Case It Blows Up.

THE BROTHERS PAOLO AND VITELLOZZO VITELLI

man. the fucking. cycles of violence going on here. war, condottieri brothers, the execution of paolo vitelli (but the on the matter of guilt: questionable! no proof besides the absence of potential violence, but what conspiracy-betrayal wants to leave behind proof? torture and execute him anyway. maybe machiavelli has a point! unfortunately you left a surviving brother), the congiura della magione, all of it coming together at the strage di senigallia. just blood and gore and war all the way down, never stopping for a breather, already on to it's next battlefield. also malaria is there!

in other news! it turns out if you want to draw a comic about the strage di senigallia, you have to figure out designs for all the people in the room, but if you draw vitellozzo, you also have to draw his brother because he's like. there. in a dead way. something something vitellozzo's desire to avenge his brother manifesting in his desire to brutalize florence for their role in his brother's death.

that said, I did not want to draw military armor for an illustration that was partially designed to test out some splatter brushes. in the future though….I will have to revisit that visual…..

Why did it take two extra days for the particles to come through the gates after they opened?

They were probably waiting to have that dramatic moment when everyone was finally together and they could get all of their reactions— that’s part of it from a writers perspective. But what’s the in universe reasoning behind this delayed reaction?

I have an idea: Will tells Mike that as soon as they crossed into Hawkins, he could feel One and that he was still alive. This happened specifically when he came into proximity to him.

Maybe One needed those two days to regain strength, but MAYBE the reason One was able to gain enough strength was because Will was there.

I think this would be believable enough given Will’s previous connection to who him, as well as the timing of it all. After he gets scorched by the teens he only has enough strength to open the gates, but not to send the particles through. It’s not until exactly two days later, when Will comes back, that he is able to do this.

I don’t have a complete theory for why this is, but my thinking is that One’s connection to Will is giving him strength, and could possibly even be a power source for him (especially if there’s a reveal that Will has been connected to the UD for longer than we think) I’ve seen theories from @aemiron-main that proposes that One has self regeneration which I think could be very likely, although this connection to Will specifically could be speeding up this process, or he could be using Will as a way to keep his consciousness afloat as he tries to get a body back. (Eddie flesh puppet theory?)
