Sweater Weather || Nick Folio x Reader
Tumblr media
P H O T O F O U N D O N P I N T E R E S T
PAIRING: Nick Folio x Reader
WARNINGS: fluff, secretly dating trope kinda, mentions of previous sexual intercourse (idk if it needs to be a warning),
TAGLIST: @measuredingold @cncohshit
A/N: I had this idea because I wanted to write something cliché. I was a diehard marauders stan and got inspired by those "you have the wrong tie on"-stories. I hope you’ll enjoy the small one shot.
Tumblr media
“Fuck!” You exclaimed while almost sprinting out of your car and up to the front door of restaurant you had planned to meet up with the boys.
They wanted to discuss everything one final time before the tour started you had been running painfully late.
So, when you stumbled into the restaurant you shot the group a small greeting without really looking at them and quickly sat down between Folio and Noah.
The latter shot you a confused glance that you couldn’t quite read, so you just smiled at him softly.
“Uhm…” Ruffilo exclaimed, also looking at you like he had seen a ghost.
You blinked confused, trying to process why the group was looking at you strangely but Jolly finally helped you out of your misery.
“So, you end Folio finally did it?” He exclaimed in a jokingly tone.
Your mind started to race. Why did Jolly know? Did Nick tell them? You thought the two of you had agreed to not tell anyone about it. But on the other hand, it’s been three months since you started dating for real and…
“You’re wearing Folio's sweater." Noah quietly said to you, helping the storm in your head to calm down.
You looked down slowly at what you're wearing, when it hit you. The Logo on the front was undeniably from one of his sweaters, but because you were running so painfully late this morning you'd just grabbed a random sweater from the floor in your bedroom on your way out. Completely missing out on the fact it was Nick's.
It had been a dark grey crew neck, with a little white design on the front. A sweater looking really similar to one of your own and also one he wore quite frequently during the winter.
You blinked in disbelief. Out of all sweaters, you had of course taken exactly the one that the boys could clearly identify as Nick's.
You shot all of them a short glance, before looking back at the sweater and you began to stutter. "We… uhm-… I"
„For fuck sake, yes we are dating. Could you now stop staring at Y/n like they are an attraction."
To that Matt gave you a small smirk, "I'm happy for you, but if you ever fight on tour and make it our problem, I'll hunt you down."
The rest of course having heard, rambled in disbelief for a second, as they looked on the menu.
Nick placed a hand on your thigh, causing you to look at him.
"Is it okay, I told them?" Nick whispered on your ear. You slowly began to nod.
"It was actually kinda painful to not be able to touch you or kiss you around them." You answered him with a small and lovingly smile on your face.
"Let's change that." He exclaimed teasingly before pressing his lips to yours in a loving kiss.
"Okay, just because you are dating and we know it now, doesn’t mean you have to fuck in front of us." Noah jokingly exclaimed.
You pulled away for a second to shove your elbow into Noah's side just to peck Nick's lips again, who began to slightly laugh at your action.
Right before the waitress reached your table to get your orders, Matt spoke up again.
"So, I guess we can save some money by cancelling one of your hotel rooms on tour, right?"

Pixel and Flavor: Illustrating the Essence of Chinese Cuisine
During the height of the pandemic, amidst erratic government policies and rising food prices, I was commissioned to revamp the brand design of a family restaurant recently inherited by the younger generation.
Tumblr media
Working on the logo went smoothly, but not so much for the menu. I had initially planned to do some food photography, but the cost of ingredients was prohibitive for all 20+ dishes. Eventually, we opted for food illustration instead.
Tumblr media
Illustrating food, especially in Chinese cuisine, requires several layers, much like the approach to its ingredients and cooking. It took a while to finish each dish, but I enjoyed the process.

i think sometimes abt how there was a stretch of about a week when we first moved into a new house back in canada where we had a new computer but no internet, so as an unfathomably bored child i spent hours upon hours using Microsoft Publisher to make fake websites with the default templates and stock images. at first i think i tried making "personal" websites like the ones i saw on webrings back in the day but i quickly clued into the fact that Publisher was optimized to make corporate/brand websites with official logos and such, which led me to create a fictional megacorporation that spanned every basic template in the software; the Lotus corp (thus named bc the only decent stock image i had on the computer to create the logo was the default water lilies background image windows xp came with) sold everything from office pens to chairs to coffee cups for which i wrote little ad blurbs ("this cup is scientifically designed to keep your beverages warm for your entire coffee break!") as if they were actual products and not extremely bland stock photos that looked like this
Tumblr media
the Lotus corp also had a restaurant chain, for the sole purpose of letting me use the menu template; their specialty was samosas bc the only stock image in the program was a samosa (or what i thought was a samosa. it might not have been. i was 8 and had never had indian food before.) there was also, probably, a company newsletter, that i filled with complete bullshit bc i was only passingly familiar with what a newsletter was let alone a corporate one
there isn't much of a point to this post other than i feel like this would be the kind of hobby a young roy might have gotten into and im glad this didn't prime me for a lifetime job in marketing or some such

Leaf & Bean - Cafe-Style Menu Default
Tumblr media
Hi everyone! I love love love @moyokeansimblr's Restaurant Menu Default Replacement -- it's so sleek and modern and classy, and my Sims...are not. XD I mostly build little cafes and teahouses, so I reached out to the lovely Mokoyean, and she gave me her blessing to use her default replacement as a template (this was before I learned to do it myself) for a design that would better suit my game, so many thanks to her! 🤗 I highly recommend you check out her default as well and see which design would work best for your game!
This menu has a heavy emphasis on coffee and tea, along with some soups and sandwiches:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the back has a little cafe-style "logo", along with the rather generic name, Leaf & Bean Cafe:
Tumblr media
And since Mara managed to get herself seated at the only table without a light 😂, here's the texture itself:
Tumblr media
I used a combination of my Lorem Ipsim font and Franzilla's MaiOttograf with some leafy modifications, plus icons by kerismaker and Freepik at Flaticon.
I'll be making some board menus to match this style in the near future as well!
DOWNLOAD (SFS) Replacement is ~75KB yessss
Lots of love, Spacey

So, today I watched an episode of 4Kids Flashback (a podcast where the hosts talk to actors, translators, editors and others that worked on 4Kids) where they interviewed Waldo Cabrera, a guy that did designs for them, and revealed something pretty neat:
Not only was the american Yu-Gi-Oh logo design inspired by the Nightmare before Christmas title, but he hired the font designer from that movie to create the YGO one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also told a pretty fun story about that kanji in the background of the logo: they send the original sketch over to Japan, but they said he had to put it written "Yu-Gi-Oh" in japanese too, making him freak out since he didn't know any japanese.
He went to eat sushi for lunch that day, not sure on what to do, realized that the menu had kanji on it, and asked the people who worked in the restaurant if anyone knew how to write kanji; this way about 5 people from the sushi restaurant ended up writing it up a bunch of times and he could choose a "Yu", a "Gi" and a "Oh" from there!

You’ve never seen a Raising Cane’s like this one.
Tumblr media
The Dallas shop, located near I-35E and W. Northwest Highway in northwest Dallas, ditches Canes’ usual red and yellow logo for a blue and white one. The brick is painted a shiny silver like a football helmet. Inside, customers will find outfits worn by the Grapevine-raised rapper, including some of his “jorts,” socks and sneakers. Designers also hung Cowboys memorabilia like a signed Emmitt Smith jersey.
“Growing up in Dallas, I’ve been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Cane’s since I was a kid, so it is an honor to be part of this collaboration with two of the greatest franchises in history,” Post Malone said in a statement.
If this seems like a stunt, it’s worth pointing out that the building will operate as a real restaurant. The menu will be nearly identical to the more than 750 restaurants across the globe, and customers will find the expected chicken tenders, Cane’s sauce, crinkle-cut fries, cole slaw and Texas toast. There’s one exception here: Customers can order a Box Combo “the Posty way,” which comes with four chicken fingers, fries, no slaw, extra toast, two Cane’s sauces, salt and pepper packets, a Post Malone sticker and an Arnold Palmer to drink.
Just like our 10-time, Grammy-nominated musician would want it.

MANOR HILL HOTEL and Day Spa sits up past Alfriscombe’s headland, a decorative shell formed gradually over the centuries around the core of the original medieval manor house. For centuries this was the family home of the Vernons, able to trace their noble line back to the Norman conquest and beyond, but a combination of expensive tastes, a series of disastrous investments and a few unlucky runs at cards forced them to sell up and retreat long ago.
It still has the air of a grand house, if you can overlook the Michelin star plaques screwed to the stonework beside the main entrance and the ‘[NO] Vacancies’ sign creaking on its gibbet down by the main road. The sweeping carriage drive still follows the curve of the manor’s boundary wall, taking new arrivals past well-kept gardens and grand views over the bay before dropping them at the front door. The frontage is all late Regency, clean and white in the spring sunshine with row upon row of identically sized sash windows, while newer extensions at the rear house guest bedrooms overlooking the back lawn, neatly clipped evergreens, and beyond that ancient woodland with the crown of Fairy Hill rising up out of the trees in the distance. In short, picturesque as all hell from every possible angle. Little wonder the first Baron Vernon chose this spot to cement his triumphant land grab post-Conquest.
The grand ballroom jutting off the south-east side is a Victorian addition from the family that owned it briefly until their only son was lost in the Great War. One of the bedrooms is still preserved as a shrine to his memory, the life’s work of his grieving parents, even his uniform laid out as if ready for him to return and don it before he heads off to victory. Mainder struggles to remember that family’s name, to his occasional shame. Not Vernon, certainly, and he had nothing to do with their misfortunes, but still. Maybe he’ll drop by the display later and remind himself. It feels like the right thing to do.
The only visible remnant of the medieval hall in these modern times is a wide Gothic arch just inside the front door. The old lord’s motto just manages to assert its presence if not its meaning, shallow scratches in the fragile sandstone barely legible now; HABEMVS TENEMVS, it used to say. A brief smirk ghosts across his face as he passes under the inscription and wipes his muddy feet thoroughly on the logo woven into the doormat. Initially dismayed when the hotel decided to adopt the Vernon coat of arms as part of their branding, between the threat of lawsuits and the enthusiasm of the fancy graphic designer they hired it ended up almost unrecognisable, with details like the lion passant the Vernons were once so peacock-proud of replaced by nothing more than a stylised scribble beneath the shield. The absolute cherry on the cake is knowing that it appears not just on doormats, not just printed on restaurant menus and crockery and the tiny guest soaps in the rooms, it’s even embossed on the luxury quilted toilet paper. Odds are that someone at that very moment is wiping their arse on the Vernon crest, and he couldn’t have devised a more fitting use for it if he’d tried.
This early in the year it’s sparse business, with the Valentine’s Day offers over and done with and the Spring Bank Holiday trade yet to materialise, but those guests who do make the trip tend to be heavily susceptible to impulse buys from the trinkets displayed at the treatment centre desk. He stops to admire, as he always does, the sheer artistry at work in arranging the showcase, each shelf in the display containing precisely the correct number of tempting items, not too crowded and not too sparse, all angled to sparkle just so under the cabinet lights.
Looking more closely though there are a few gaps. “You managed to shift that geode.”, he remarks, reaching into his coat pocket and flipping open his notebook. “Want me to send up another? Anything else you’re out of?”.
He’s left hanging when the young woman at the desk holds up a ‘wait’ finger and darts into the tiny office behind the desk. “All of the rose quartz.”, her voice echoes back to him. “Most of the pendants …”. She reappears with a handwritten list which she pushes across the desk for him to review. “Pretty much all of the fossils. Here you go. We had a big rush on over Valentine’s Day.”.
He raises his eyebrows, scribbling swift notes as he works his way down the extensive list. “No kidding. Who says romance is dead?”.
“Certainly not me!”.
The cheeky smile she shoots at him doesn’t go unnoticed, but he lets her flirting pass without comment. Gratifying as it was when he overheard that the young ladies at the spa reception desk ‘totally would’ even if he is ‘like, really old’, the days are long gone that he’d consider taking them up on it.
Back before the Closing his two chief duties were monitoring the Fold for strays and wanderers, and keeping track of the yasim, the half-bloods seeded year on year by the constant traffic between the two sides. He’d barely had to stir himself on that front in the last two centuries. Maybe there are more green eyes in Alfriscombe than you’d expect in such a small population, a bit more luck on the scratch cards or the horses. Realm blood leaves its mark. But these days there isn’t one that he could pick out of a crowd, the aura about them that says they’re someone he needs to watch over. Certainly there are none of his get. He hasn’t even had a relationship on this side for how long he can’t even remember for precisely that reason, and he’s not about to start now.
Business concluded, he ducks down the corridor in the direction of the events suite. Hotel management chose to decorate this section with a selection of tasteful prints in unfussy dark wood frames showing scenes from the history of Alfriscombe. He stops to admire what’s in his opinion the best of the lot, delicate ink lines and cross-hatching showing a view of the town from, if he remembers correctly, 1857. Yes, that’d be right; the pier hadn’t been built yet, and the old Abbey schoolhouse, one of the only victims of the fire of 1860, is still standing. Memory supplies the scene - the blaze and its aftermath, nobody hurt but the building itself reduced to smoking rubble - handwringing from the diocese and mutterings from the vicar about God’s mysterious ways. In truth God had very little to do with it, but he’s confident She would have approved of the outcome, if not the methods. No more kids being singled out at the teachers’ whim, mysterious discipline delivered behind closed doors strictly one on one leaving boys pale and tearful and resolutely silent. Not in his town. He still counts that as one of his better days’ work.
A couple of steps onward he halts again, head cocked as if listening to an unseen navigator, and apparently on impulse takes a sharp right into Hotel Staff Only territory, a service corridor providing hidden access to the function rooms and the restaurant. As such it’s an unloved, undecorated space designed for actual work to get done, safely out of sight of paying guests. Plush carpet underfoot gives way to easy-to-mop vinyl in dull blue. Utilitarian plastic skirting protects the bare plaster walls from the heavy catering trolleys, inclined to rumble on unchecked if you let go even for a moment. One such appears as he reaches the bend, and he stops close into the wall to let it go rattling past. The tiny young woman struggling to steer the beast nods breathless thanks and carries on her way.
Further down there’s the murmur of voices from an event in progress. More of the staff are in full action mode here, smartly kicking open the kitchen doors to bustle past and around him with water jugs and trays of coffee cups, but they pay him no attention beyond the occasional nod of greeting. They all know him, local kids grown up playing hopscotch or bulldog in the alley behind his shop, and for all his many faults he never could bring himself to be a dick to children. It works out nicely; they have nothing but positive associations with him, and this wouldn’t be the first time he’s taken advantage of that fact to use their domain as a shortcut.
He emerges precisely where he needs to be, the atrium at the centre of the function rooms. They're busy laying it up for the first break, and he drifts aside to keep out of the way, helpfully picking up a discarded lanyard from the floor. A sign propped on the easel by the other door proclaims that today’s series of seminars are on the subject of ‘Alfriscombe: Past, Present and Future’, and are kindly sponsored by the Warrington Institute.
He barely glances at it. There’s news to be had here today, but that isn’t it.

kokuore • BYLD restaurant
now that the secret is out (you can go and read more about kokuore and my favourite couple of all time here), i can share some details from this project!
the incredible gen @nolita-fairytale reached out and asked if i could help with the logo and also the profile for kokuore — AND OFC I CAN! to be completely honest, she came up with the concept, i was just the designer for it haha
Tumblr media
insta profile and break downs are below the cut
kokuore is a made up word from the word “heart” in japanese and italian, and the logo is the syllabic form of it (both are gen’s ideas). the clean aesthetic and the serif font bring some classic, but also modern tones to it!
Tumblr media
and the clean vibes kinda reflects on the profile aesthetic. also there’s so pop of colour bc i have this feeling that chef’s menu is very playful and focused on bring the best qualities of their products!

Ah, the fabled number-one wing stop in town... Wise Moose.
The restaurant was everything one would expect out of a new spot: a clean brick-and-mortar building with greenery around the perimeter, clean windows that gave way to a preview of the patrons and the workers serving them, and of course - because it has to live up to its name - a giant neon sign depicting a cartoon moose grinning while holding chicken wings in its hands.
Wait, hands? Don't moose just have hooves or whatever?
Disregarding the unimportant question, I pulled out my phone to check the time.
6:58 PM.
Maya was nowhere in sight. I started to get antsy. There was still two minutes to the hour, but two minutes isn't exactly what one would say is a long period of time. Almost immediately, my brain conjured excuses: she probably ran into a familiar face and got distracted, or maybe, she got stuck in traffic. Traffic has never been great in my town; in fact, with the way people drive around here, I always assumed they got their licenses because the DMV just wanted them to stay far away from their facilities. Then again, I wasn't sure if Maya even knew how to drive. Perhaps she might just appear out of thin air or run around the corner, waving me down while trying not to lose balance and falling flat on the sidewalk.
Or maybe she wasn't coming...
I looked back at my phone.
6:59 PM.
I started to wonder if it was just a waste of time, if Maya was just playing some sort of sick prank on me. There was no way she would just appear at the last minute. Defeated, I slid my phone back into my pocket and turned around.
"Boo!" Maya exclaimed as I fully turned around.
My spirit nearly flung out of my physical body as I raised my hands in front of myself. I don't know what sound emitted from my mouth, but it must've been something unusual as Maya covered her mouth trying to stifle her uncontrollable laughter.
"Are you okay?" Maya asked teary-eyed, still giggling at what she did.
"I will be as soon as my adrenaline calms down," I nervously chuckled while taking a deep breath, my heart still feeling as though it were playing an intense drum solo.
"Well, Smokey, time to go taste test the wings, huh?" Maya said with a grin as she opened the door for me.
"Wow, and here I thought chivalry went the way of the dodo," I remarked in a playful tone as I walked through the entrance way.
I absorbed the ambiance of the restaurant. The windows didn't do it justice; it had the usual characteristics expected of a wing place such as a bar with a wall containing an assortment of alcohol and the scent and sight of a wide array of dishes the spot had to offer. But like many places in my town, it seemed to be covered with artisan influences, mainly the color palette and design. It was illuminated enough to see food on a plate but not too much where it felt harsh and blinding. The muted color palette of an off-white cream and coffee brown gave it a modern and almost fancy-like appearance - a bit ironic for a restaurant that mainly sold chicken wings as the main food of choice.
Maya and I approached the counter and retrieved a menu from there. Sure enough, the front of the paper menu had the logo and name of the restaurant. We looked through and saw a rather wide array of items to choose from: wings, of course, but they also sold burgers and other appetizers like mozzarella cheese sticks and their "famous" loaded potato skins.
"How do you like your wings?" Maya asked curiously, still perusing through the sizeable menu.
"Eh, I'm not a fan of anything too saucy," I answered. "If they have dry rub wings, I think I'll go with that."
As we were still pondering our selection, an employee met us from across the counter.
"Welcome to Wise Moose Wings," the associate greeted us with an upbeat tone. "Have you two decided on what you wanted?"
"Uh, yeah, actually," Maya answered confidently, "I will have the 10-count wood-fired chipotle dry rub wings, bone-in, with a small side of... Cajun French fries, please."
The associate nodded his head as he entered Maya's order on the register's computer.
"Okay, 10-count wood-fired chipotle dry rub wings with a small Cajun French fry," he repeated. "And what sauce would you like with that order?"
"Ranch, please," Maya answered.
The associate entered more information into the computer.
"Alright, anything else?" The associate asked, directing his focus to me.
"Will?" Maya gently spoke, checking to see if I was ready to order.
But I was not...
I mean, for goodness sake, there was a plethora of flavors to choose from. Do I stick with a dry rub? Maybe try saucy wings? Bone-in? Bone-out? There were so many choices to go with, and yet I couldn't-.
"He'll have the same thing with ranch, please," Maya intervened.
The associate nodded and entered the information into the computer.
"Okay, two orders of the dry rub wings and small Cajun fries with ranch," he read aloud. "And for drinks?"
"Do you guys have strawberry lemonade?" I blurted out of nowhere. Both Maya and the associate seemed to be surprised that I was able to speak, let alone ask questions.
"Yes, actually, we make our lemonade in-house with different flavors," the associate answered.
"I'll take a small strawberry lemonade, please," I requested. I turned to Maya. "And you?"
A cute, closed-mouth smile appeared on her face. I could see in her eyes that I made her proud somehow.
"I'll have the same," Maya answered, directing her attention back to the associate.
The associate typed more information into the computer before looking up to the both of us.
"Alright, your total is going to be $29.34," the associate informed us.
Huh, that wasn't bad, I thought. I was ready to pay 40 or 50 bucks.
As I reached for my wallet to pull out my debit card, I looked over to Maya, who had her smartphone on top of the register's card reader. It made a quick three-note jingle before a small piece of paper came out of a printer near it.
"Alright, here's your receipt," the associate said as he tore it from the printer and handed it to Maya. "We'll bring your food to your table when it's ready!"
"Sounds good, thank you," Maya replied as she retrieved the receipt from the associate as she turned to find us a table.
"Oh, I was gonna cover the food," I said with my wallet still in my hand.
Maya chuckled. "That's kind of you, Will, but I invited you out to try the place. I'm not gonna make you pay; that would be weird of me."
That's actually a good point. I'm glad that we progressed as a society where a woman being chivalrous to a man is not seen as a weird phenomenon.
We immediately found a table with a decent view of the restaurant’s kitchen and took a seat. For the first few seconds, we leaned onto the surface of the table, looking rather intently at each other.
"So..." I began.
"So..." Maya jokingly mocked.
"'Smokey'?" I asked with a grin.
"You're just asking about that?" Maya laughed. "Looks like the cigarette and I are neck and neck when it comes to nearly killing you."
I leaned back into my chair. "I don't know about that, I could still breathe somewhat after your little scare."
"Oh, little?" Maya's eyes and grin widened as she leaned further into the table. "Did you not hear the sound you made when I scared you? You sounded like a pug getting its tail yanked!"
So that's how I sounded...
"You should've seen it," she continued, "all the people walking past us, looking at you like you lost your mind and watching me laugh like a psychopath. I'd say that's a pretty good way to start a bond, wouldn't you agree?"
"Just know that if you try that again, I might have to hurt ya," I sarcastically spoke in an exaggerated, fake Brooklyn accent while I jokingly flexed my muscles.
"Ooh, so frightening!" Maya mockingly replied, rolling her eyes while still grinning.
A server approached our table, balancing a tray on his hand while putting the plates of food and beverages down on the table one at a time.
"Alright, you guys, here are your wings, fries, and lemonade," the server said. "I hope you guys enjoy!"
"Thank you, you, too!" I replied.
I realized I made a mistake.
The associate walked away, and I immediately darted my focus to Maya, whose lips were tucked inside her mouth exactly like she did earlier at the café.
"Don't say it," I said in a hushed tone through gritted teeth, raising my index finger in her direction.
"Is he gonna eat your food, too?" Maya jokingly asked, trying not to laugh and embarrass me.
I chuckled and shook my head. "Let's just give these wings a taste test, shall we?"
We both picked up a flat wing and bumped them together.
"Cheers!" We both exclaimed.
As I was about to take a bite of the chicken wing, Maya inserted the entire wing into her mouth. She bit down and wiggled the wing around for a bit before pulling out clean bones from her mouth and placed it on her plate.
"Oh, yeah, this is gonna become a regular spot for me," Maya spoke, still chewing the meat from the wing.
I sat there, mouth agape after witnessing her cleaning a wing in one bite, and she quickly noticed.
"What, you've never seen someone clean a flat like that before?" Maya covered her mouth, seemingly embarrassed that she did that in front of me without hesitation.
"Nope," I confidently replied as I inserted the wing into my mouth, gently biting down on the two bones and wiggling it around before pulling out clean bones and placing it on my plate. "I just haven't met another person besides me that could.”
Maya's eyes widened as she grabbed another wing. "You must watch a bunch of competitive eaters online, don't you? That's where I learned how to do it."
"Yeah, actually," I replied. "It's a cool and effective way to clean a wing."
After much time had passed, multiple topics were discussed, many wings were cleaned, and before we knew it, the plates of food before us were empty, save for the bones left on them.
"So, Maya, how do we rate the food?" I inquired as I took the final sips of my refreshing strawberry lemonade.
"Hmm," Maya pondered as she rubbed her chin, "well, I don't like number ratings. They're too arbitrary, especially when you start throwing decimals in there. I'll say that the size of the wings and the flavor and juiciness of the tender meat were well worth the price. The fries were pretty good, especially with that Cajun seasoning. You made the right call with the strawberry lemonade. It had a great balance of sweet and tartness, and it was so refreshing. Overall, I'd say that Wise Moose gets the highly-acclaimed Maya star!"
"Wow, I don't think anything can top a Maya star," I chuckled as I emerged from the table feeling very satisfied. "But you hit it right on the money, this place is definitely gonna be a regular spot for me, too."
We made our way to the restaurant door as we thanked the associates and waved goodbye. This time, I opened the door for Maya.
"Did you enjoy feeling gentleman-like just now?" Maya grinned as she walked out of the restaurant.
"I had to do it this time," I smiled as I walked out behind her.
"Well, Will, I enjoyed myself tonight, and it was fun hanging out with you and not letting you die," Maya spoke sweetly.
"You wouldn't have let me die if I came close to it, would you?" I jokingly asked.
"Oh, boy, it's getting late, huh?" Maya joked as she comically pulled out her phone and putting it extremely close to her face. We both laughed before she put it back in her pocket. "I would hang out a bit longer, but you know, those bills..."
"They don't pay themselves," I added.
Maya smiled and wrapped her arms around my neck. I followed up by wrapping mine around her waist and gently tightening my embrace.
"I'll text you when I'm free, okay?" Maya said softly.
"I'll hold you to it," I replied.
Maya pulled away and walked into the distance, just as she did earlier. But this time, I wasn't ashamed of myself. I didn't feel like a jester entertaining someone at the cost of my own dignity. I didn't have to rely on dumb luck to make progress. I didn't need to try so hard to impress someone who piqued my interest.
I was just myself, and if that's enough for her, it should be enough for me...
... right?
