#revali still gets curious sometimes

Note
What's Revali's relationship with his adopted family members like?
Teba & Saki: Despite Revali’s reluctance to call them mom and dad, he still sees them as respectable parental figures. He might not always be honest with how he feels, but one time Saki asked him if he ever wanted to find his parents, to which Revali replied, “What for? I have you and Teba.”
Tulin: Revali was convinced that he didn’t like kids, until Saki put baby Tulin into his arms. His first reaction was to scoff at how ugly the little thing looked, but his hold tightened protectively nevertheless. Surprisingly, Revali grew up to be a great big brother.

Hi, saw you mention missing writing for Revali. Was curious how would you envision (HCs) a Revali that survived Calamity (AoC) but a time skip passes and the events of Totk begin?
Hello! Thanks for your suggestion, I honestly have been thinking and debating on this for quite some time. It seems like it's time that I finally put my ideas out in the world! My first time doing HCs but I hope you enjoy it!
Revali surviving the Calamity and his life with his spouse:
I like to think Revali gained some sort of scar from the fight with Windblight Ganon.
A long scar in the form of a beam that goes across his chest and the side of his neck when he got hit.
From an outsider’s perspective, it didn’t seem that deep, but the medics concluded it was much of an injury to tell him he shouldn’t exert much into physical activities.
Unfortunately, he still does overtrain from time-to-time to the dismay of his, now, spouse.
On top of that, he still leads the rito warriors, organizing the operations and their duties to protect Rito Village. Sometimes, he takes hours just training and planning with the village elder.
It takes a lot of convincing to get him to rest, but the moment he sees the desperation in your eyes, he sighs and heads home with your arm wrapped in his.
"Revali."
"I know, I… I’m sorry"
Since the calamity, Revali has been trying to be better at depending on others, especially since he’s chosen to have you in his life, not wanting to hurt you more by shutting you out.
Still, bad habits die hard. At the very least, he tries.
Getting home, it became a habit to lightly caress the scar on his chest as you both lie in your shared hammock.
The sensation bothered him for the first couple of months, but eventually, he couldn't sleep without it.
It's like a comforting feeling that he's alive, lucky enough to survive and live with you. Fortunate enough to see Hyrule again in its glory; For that, he's extremely grateful to Goddess Hylia.
There are a lot of days where he wakes up in the middle of the night.
Throat dry and eyes wide, awakened by the nightmare that haunts him in the form of Windblight Ganon.
It’s only when he feels your body lean towards him in the hammock when he relaxes.
On most days, you wake up feeling his panic, consoling and letting him find comfort in your embrace.
But in the rare instance you stay asleep, he takes a walk or a flight just around the village.
There is just this one time where you woke in the middle of the night, looking for his warm blanket of wings in your shared hammock.
In a panic, you ran around the village. It was only when you noticed a string of smoke from the flight range that you finally let go of the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Still a bit sleepy, you make your way to him. Finding him, staring at his bow once more with paranoia in his eyes.
Your embrace wakes him up from the thoughts that plagued his mind, his tears made yours water in response.
Since then, he has been trying his best to wake you up on those nights; Trying to actually ask for help, knowing that he doesn’t have to be alone anymore.

revalink flower shop x tattoo shop omgg... who runs which shop how do they meet are they competitive with their businesses do they give each other cute things from their shops 👁
god it would work either way, but ultimately i think link would own the tattoo shop and revali would own the flower shop. i only decided it because revali seems like the type to have to do multiple sessions for the tiniest tattoo because his pain tolerance is low for tattoos LMAO bro is sitting there like "it doesn't hurt i swear" meanwhile his face is red and he's sucking in his lips trying not to burst into tears ready to shit his pants, but the needle hasn't even touched his skin yet ✋😭
this au could go in a couple different ways: (1) link and revali hate each other and fight all the time about being the better store (boring!), (2) there's no rivalry and link and revali are mutually interested in each other (better, but a bit ooc i feel), or (3) link moves in and becomes more and more curious as he catches glimpses of his (((attractive))) store-neighbor while secretly hopeless romantic revali is grumpy and annoyed about how off-putting a tattoo shop will look next to his flower shop and there's a very mild one-sided rivalry mentality on his end, but as link tries to get to know revali better, revali thinks, perhaps this wouldn't be so bad. you already know what i'm about to write about rn lmfao.
revali's flower shop "the meadow" has been open on tabantha street for a couple years now. he thinks of himself as a very good florist, probably the best in the entire city of hyrule, and he's actually won a couple floral design competitions??? revali inherited the shop from his parents after they passed and he gets fairly good business, especially because everyone who lives on this street are hopeless romantics who are always buying bouquets for dates or to bring home to their spouses. revali will roll his eyes and scoff lightheartedly to his customers about how mushy it all is (but inside, he wants the same for himself; to go home to someone he loves with a bouquet of flowers. revali wonders sometimes, when he watches customers leave with red roses in hand, if he was meant to ever find love. he looks over at the vase of forget-me-nots on the counter; perhaps, one day).
the retail space next to revali's shop has been empty for a couple years and revali is thinking about expanding into the space when suddenly, the space gets rented out and in moves some blond twink with a fully tatted up arm with his dumb little tattoo shop called "master ink zero" or some shit. revali comes in to work one day only for there to be construction going on in the empty space he's been eyeing for a while, and that cute blond twink is standing in front of it talking to one of the workers. what the fuck. all this construction noise is going to scare revali's soft-hearted hopeless romantic customers away! the blond notices him and holds a hand up to wave a little, but revali just glares and turns away to unlock the door to his shop. he could really let that kid have it, but he holds his tongue because he needs to open the store. (he is kind of cute though... stop it, bad revali!)
the day continues as smoothly as it can with construction noise muffled through one of the shop's walls giving revali a migraine. fortunately, his regulars still come but unfortunately, every single one of them comments on the construction.
"you're going to get a new neighbor!" amali says as revali rings up the regular bouquet for her husband kass. "how exciting! you won't be lonely anymore."
"what a curious mix," muses saki when she enters the shop. "a flower shop and a tattoo parlor next to each other. you know, my teba and i are quite the opposites ourselves and they say opposites attract, so—" and revali flushes, squawking and ushering her out. she only laughs at him and bids him well.
the moment his friend urbosa steps into the store to visit, revali knows that she knows and immediately regrets his entire life. "have you proposed marriage to him yet?" she asks, smirking and sits on the counter.
"get off of my counter, i just wiped that down," revali snipes at her, frowning. "whatever do you mean, propose?"
"to blondie next door," she says, cocking her head to the side towards the construction. revali rolls his eyes but she continues. "he's your type down to a T."
"and he's going to scare off my customers," he replies and returns to spraying his vase of forget-me-nots. "i could care less whether or not he's my type."
urbosa hums. "well he's cute and he seems like a nice kid." suddenly, her gaze shifts into something more serious and revali's shoulders tense. "revali... forgive me if i overstep, but i know you've been alone for a while. you've been running this shop for years, working nonstop. i don't think you've ever had a moment to yourself. it might be nice to take a leap of faith on this one, you know?"
revali reverts his attention back to the forget-me-nots and doesn't say anything else, touching the petals with gentle fingers. urbosa sighs. "just consider it, okay? i care about you and i want you to be happy."
"i know," he murmurs. "i know. i'll think about it. only because you asked me to, though. not because he's my type." urbosa smiles and punches his shoulder lightly, to which revali wrinkles his nose at her. he'll think about it.
somehow, the tattoo shop finishes construction in the next week (that bolson construction company sure is efficient...) and opens. revali should probably go over to congratulate his new neighbor with a bouquet of daffodils and white carnations, but he's already glared them down the first time he saw them. with an oddly uncomfortable feeling in his chest, he keeps to himself in his little flower shop, tending to his vase of forget-me-nots and all his other flowers.
(but just because revali doesn't want to visit doesn't mean that link won't 👁️)
the soft chime of a bell alerts revali that a customer has stepped into the store. "welcome to the meadow," he starts, looking up from his computer to the door, "what can i help you with—?" and the rest of his words are stuck in his throat. there, in the threshold of his store, is the blond twink with the fully tatted arm staring at revali with wide, bright blue eyes.
revali never actually got a good look at him when they saw each other the first time. the blond is wearing a loose green tank top, black leather jeans, and combat boots, and his tatted arm is fully on display, swirling with deliberate strokes of ink. he's quite toned and lean, now that revali has gotten a closer look. definitely not his type. he's not!
"hi," the blond says, his voice as soft as the doorbell. "i'm link. i'm the... owner of the tattoo shop next door." he's got freckles, revali thinks faintly before he can actually process any other words.
"really? i wouldn't have ever known with your entire arm covered in tattoos," he says instead. "perhaps you were actually a receptionist or a dog walker who stumbled upon my humble shop." revali cringes internally after the words leave his mouth; he didn't mean to come off that rude for their first proper interaction. he just wanted to be a little rude.
but link only smiles at him, small but genuine, and a feeling grows in revali's chest that he can't quite name. "i'm not sure i'd be very good at either of those things," he says and steps a little closer to the counter, hands in his pockets.
"and who's to say you're any good at tattooing either?" revali mutters, and he doesn't mean for link to actually hear it, but he does, much to revali's chagrin.
link cocks his head, still smiling. "you could come by and find out," he says, and revali blinks at him. they maintain each other's gaze for a couple moments, link's eyes bright and wide, until revali finally tears his gaze away back to his computer. he can't read a single word on the screen.
"revali," he says instead, still keeping his eyes on the screen. it's almost feels difficult to get the words out. "my name is revali."
"hi revali," link says, leaning against the counter now. "it's nice to meet you." then, he glances up at the clock mounted above revali's head. "i have to get back now, i just wanted to properly introduce myself to you now that we'll be working next door to each other. i hope to see you around." with that, link stands up, bows his head a little, and gives revali another smile before leaving.
(and if revali stared after him and the way those leather jeans hugged his figure quite nicely, no he didn't.)
and that's how it starts 😳 at first i considered having link also keep to his own shop at first, but i don't think that does his "character" justice in the game. if you consider us as players to be equivalent to botw link's character (i.e. how we maneuver link in-game, what dialogue options we choose, etc), then link has this natural curiosity about the world around him and wants to explore and talk to new people. so of COURSE if he sees that his neighbor is hot, he's going to want to come over and say hiiiii *twirls his hair*
revalink shenanigans ensue <3 in the beginning, link would randomly drop by during the week for a minute or two, to say hi and make small talk with revali and at first, revali wouldn't say much eyeing the blond. but his short responses and cold demeanor don't deter link; it seems to spur him on, the blond smiling brightly at him with every greeting and with every goodbye.
one day, link comes in and after he says hello, he starts walking around the store looking at the flowers like he's a customer. revali blinks and watches link walk around, dumbfounded.
"what are you doing?" revali says.
"looking at the flowers," link says. he gently touches the edges of the flowers' petals as he moves between the aisles, the same way that revali treats the flowers. "i want to put some on our reception desk. i think it would look really nice." he stops before a cluster of sunflowers and then looks at revali. "can i get some of these?"
revali faintly notes how well link resembles the bright flowers, before scoffing. "if you're going to get flowers to greet your customers, you might as well put some effort into it!" he snips, crossing his arms. "sunflowers are a good choice, but sunflowers only are bland. here, if you were to add some of these—"
he ends up walking link around the entire adding flowers to the ones in link's hand and talking about the different meanings and nuances of flowers, until the arrangement has become a bouquet of sunflowers, gladiolus flowers, jasmine flowers, and calendulas, surrounded by a bunch of little white chamomiles.
"there," revali says, putting his hands on his hips and puffing up proudly. "now that is a bouquet worthy to greet customers."
"it's very beautiful," link comments. he gazes at the bouquet and touches the flowers with those ever so gentle fingers skirting the edges of the petals. "thank you for helping me put it together. how much does it cost?"
and that stops revali in his tracks, his hands dropping to his sides. he totally forgot that link wanted to get flowers for his own store and came here acting like a customer. "yes, the matter of payment," revali starts, blinking and brain scrambling, "well, then, just think of it as a welcoming gift."
"a welcoming gift?" link echoes, cocking his head at revali with those wide blue eyes.
"yes!" revali says, his face beginning to flush. "because your store is still brand new and i hadn't welcomed you properly either..." revali looks away, feeling his cheeks burn. "it's the least i can do..."
when he looks back at link, that familiar smile has returned to his face, eyes sparkling. "thank you, revali," link says, voice soft. "that's really nice of you." and revali's heart flutters.
"well, of course!" he stammers, willing his face not to burn brighter than it already is. "you're fortunate enough to be neighbors with me, the kindest, most benevolent, and gentlemanly florist in all of hyrule." link smiles brighter at him, holding the flowers to his chest and revali looks away, the pounding in his heart so intense he wonders if it will punch through his ribcage out onto the floor.
link starts coming in on mondays and wednesdays during his lunch break just to talk to revali, and gets him to talk more about the meanings of the flowers and the nuances of different colors, the best way to arrange flowers, etc., link happily listening along. it takes some time for revali to get used to, the sound of their voices filling the usually quiet shop for that sacred half hour but once it's set into place, revali looks forward to it every week (though he'll never admit it out loud).
"don't you eat during a lunch break?" revali comments once, after finishing a spiel about invasive flowers to never plant. link hums questioningly at him. "it's a lunch break. aren't you hungry?"
"oh," link says. "i guess?" and right on cue, a rumble comes from the blond's stomach and he looks up at revali with a sheepish smile. "ahah... i got so caught up talking to you i forgot i had to eat."
revali rolls his eyes, then sighs looking up at the clock. "we still have 20 minutes," he says. "come on, let's go to the cafe."
"cafe?" link repeats, as revali grabs his phone, wallet, and keys. "there's a cafe here?"
"had you paid much more attention to anywhere else but me, you'd have known," revali says, but link still stares at him with his head tilted, waiting for an answer. "one of my regulars, amali, runs the 'birdbath' cafe just down the street. she has an assortment of meals for you to choose from, you can just get one to-go."
they enter the cafe and amali starts greeting them until she realizes it's revali and then realizes it's revali with a guest and she's like IS THIS YOUR NEW NEIGHBOR??? and he's reservedly like Yeah... and now amali is fussing all over link and asking him about how he's settling in, is everything going okay, is revali nice to you, you can come in anytime you'd like! revali is like Pls....... we have 15 minutes until link has to go back to work just give him food girl
link is very excited about the entire menu because everything looks really good. "i'll have to come back here to try everything!" he tells amali and she's ecstatic. "i'm telling you, come back anytime! you're always welcome here," she says warmly.
and when link gets ready to pay, revali brushes him aside and offers his card to amali. amali gives revali a knowing look and accepts the card, but link looks up at him confused. "you don't have to..." he starts.
"i'll pay for you this time," revali mutters, averting his eyes. "i'm the one who dragged you out here after all." and link stares with those huge blue eyes.
"thank you," he says softly. "you're so kind, revali."
"that's our revali!" amali chuckles, handing revali his card back. "he might seem like all high and mighty, but he's really just a softie inside. why do you think he runs a flower shop?"
"amali!" revali gripes, flushing. "please just get link his food." he glances back at link, who's still gazing at him with an expression that revali doesn't know how to read. he looks at revali so softly, so tenderly, and... fond. revali swallows and adjusts his collar. is it hot in here or is it just him?
god this post is already so long but there is so much potential for so many revalink shenanigans in this au 🥺
link coming to get bouquets every week for his own store and learning how to make bouquets with revali
link showing revali his portfolio of tattoos and offering to give revali a tattoo for a discounted price only for revali to decline and link gets sad, until revali quickly says that he's scared of needles and link is like ohhh (but he's still kind of disappointed because he likes the idea of tattooing revali)
link secretly sketching and designing tattoos in his off-time that he think would look really beautiful and fit revali really well. and fantasizing about touching revali's biceps to tattoo him LOL
what if link had a tramp stamp. link with a tattoos on his ribcage and groin. tattoos behind his ear. he shows revali all of these irl in the shop and revali's face is so red he's just like Um. Yes Those Are All Very Nice. Yes. Please Put Your Clothes Back On.
link coming in to buy a bouquet of lilies for zelda and revali goes all tense and upset and is like. is that your gf. and link is like GOD NO that's my twin sister and lilies are her favorite flower and revali relaxes and is like oh. that's nice of you to get her some (but is secretly pleased that link doesn't have a significant other)
urbosa coming to visit the store at a time when link is there on his lunch break, and they get to introduce themselves to each other properly. revali is sitting there sweating the entire time and when link tells urbosa about how he comes here to spend his lunch breaks, urbosa smirks at revali, who's ready to shit himself
(urbosa texting revali later congratulating him on tapping that ass. revali screams at her that he has NOT done that. and she replies with "yet?". he threatens to block her)
everyone else on tabantha street realizing that link and revali are kind of having a Thing™ going on between them. and they all start planning to try to get them together. there's a reason why i have "i won't say i'm in love" from disney's hercules on my revalink playlist because everyone is getting in on Operation: Revalink trying to push revali into asking link out and he's like no nothing is going on between us i swear except he's spends all his breaks and off-time with link, taking him to cafes and paying for everything link orders, sitting in on tattoo sessions because link invites him over, teaching link how to make bouquets... ok so maybe they have something going on, leave me alone saki, i'm not going to ask him out
THIS WILL BE THE LAST SCENARIO I TALK ABOUT bc this post is so damn long now, but i imagine a scene where link asks revali about the vase of flowers on the counter and what kind of flowers they are. revali looks over at the forget-me-nots he's been carefully tending to and inhales, and tells link.
"those are forget-me-nots," revali says, in a voice that's uncharacteristically soft and vulnerable. it makes link sit up, becoming much more attentive to revali's demeanor. "they're perennial hardy flowers that die in the winter but regrow again during the spring. there's an old story about these little ones, where a knight and his lover were walking alongside a river. the knight reached down to pick the flowers that were growing near the river, but his armor was too heavy and he ended up falling in, only to be swept away by the river's current. if you ask me, it's a foolish way to go; why was he wearing such heavy armor anyway? but as he floated away, he threw the flowers he picked to his lover and shouted, 'forget me not!' and the flower was named as such."
revali reaches over to pull the vase closer and places it in between him and link. the flowers are small and delicate little things, a sweet shade of blue with a yellow center. both he and link touch the flowers as they do, with gentle fingers against the edges of the petals.
"these were the flowers that my father offered when he was courting my mother," revali says, gaze faraway. "as you can see, it worked out." he gestures to himself and link smiles. "they're supposed to represent everlasting love, a love so true and strong that it can't be forgotten." he pauses, rubbing a petal in between his fingers before continuing. "i've always wanted to offer a bouquet of these to someone that i love, in the same way my father did for my mother. as sentimental as it is, it's... romantic and meaningful."
"it is," link agrees softly. "whoever you give these flowers to will be very lucky to have someone like you." and revali makes the mistake of looking up to meet link's gaze, because that's where everything about him changes.
when he looks at link, the sun is shining through the windows of the shop, casting a golden glow over the blond. he gazes at revali with those wide blue eyes, the ones that revali has become increasingly enamored with in the time they've spent together, the same color as the forget-me-nots. beautiful, revali thinks and this time he doesn't shy away from the thought because it's true.
then, he takes a flower from the vase and reaches over the counter to slip it behind link's ear, tucking his hair as he goes. link stills, his eyes growing wider and his cheeks turning a faint shade of pink as revali's fingers touch his skin, gentle and featherlight, and for a moment in time, they're the closest they've ever been to each other since they've met. revali could probably count all of the freckles on spread across link's nose and cheeks. in this moment, revali wouldn't mind if they got closer than this. he'd like it a lot, actually.
but he pulls away and sits back down, admiring the way the flower sits prettily behind his ear, contrasting against link's golden hair and tan skin in the sunlight. link is still wide-eyed and pink-faced and it makes revali smile (just a little!). "yes, they'd be very lucky," he murmurs. "blue is definitely your color, by the way. you should wear it more often."
"th-thanks," link whispers, reaching up to touch the flower in his hair. "i'll keep that in mind."
yes, they could be closer than this. revali hopes that one day they could.

Sometimes we have to write things down. For the good of others, yes, but also for the good of ourselves.
Welcome to the corner of tumblr where I share my experiences from the ghost town of a faith I still cherish. I have lived twice in the realms of Hylia before ending up here— once as Wind Sage Fado, and once as Picori Sage “Serin”. The latter name was a nickname given to me by a peculiar person who I’ve since been reacquainted with.
As I currently exist I am human named Matthieu (or Chrome), a trans man, a plural host, and a spiritualist who discovered my identity as the Sage of Wind back in 2009 or so. I was 12 then, but I had dreams as far back as age 10 before I’d even known about the lore.
This is my spiritual blog that branches from my main, located here.
Regarding the plurality, there are a small cast of fellow believers in our system. I’ll make a small list of their identities, their pronouns, and the timeline occurrences that pinpoint them in the fracture or closure of the timeline.
♦️Me (Chrome): Wind Sage both for the Flooded Era as well as covertly for the Calamity Era. Curious to the point of danger-prone. Often socially oblivious.
🖤Daphell: Quarter-Hylian Hero of the Wild, reincarnated after Link’s failure to survive the Shrine of Resurrection. Kidnapped by Yiga at 8 years, fed the Binding Blood which caused him to be bound to Ganon much like his captors. Father is likely Dorian.
🏹Revali: Champion of the Rito, bears the misfortune of having a dual-memory between Daph’s timeline and his Link’s. Came to our system through our summoning pool (which only summons the dead, unmade, and erased). Still cocky, but understands duty.
🌵Ako Ehri: deceased Gerudo King from the Flooded Era, came through the pool. Does not go by his old name as it bears scars. He struggles with English, and his new name is Eheniv for “Wind Prince”.
🌪️Vaati: reformed timeline. He used to visit more than stay, but as his master began to sundown he’s been spending more time here. He’s mischievous, but more level-headed than Serin (Chrome), his master’s alternate successor.
🦈Mipha: Warriors timeline, fought one the final clash before succumbing to fatal wounds. She’s shy but she does her best to help out however she can. She often wonders if she’s doing enough and the answer is that being here is enough for our family.
🦎Daruk: unrelated timeline to anybody else. Seems he survived the attack and lived to be over 100, related to partner sys Link named “Mal”.
🐪Urbosa: literally a manifestation of our Revali’s self-criticism. Doesn’t really speak to many aside from him. She’s not distressed by being a thought form of his.
🌸Zell: royal-blooded Prince, recently began questioning gender. Related to Revali’s Link’s timeline. Still enjoys research, and is just as willing to get in danger for knowledge as the Picori here.
We are fortunate to have as many people as these, even if we are a strange assortment. Most of the posts will be from me (Chrome), but occasionally you may find a difference in tone and a different marker, and that will mean the post is from them.
The likelihood of this place having a lot of viewers is low but we are glad you’re here. If you feel so inclined, we first found our faith in 2009 or so via the Naroin Founder’s Document that I preserved thanks to the Wayback Machine and the Annex Wiki site. Though the proboards site is long gone and the Facebook group is kind of a Ghost Town, we keep moving forward and (Hylia willing) we work to make sense of it.
My main goal is to compile a list of practices to see if it can be codified. Preserving rituals is of serious importance to me.

TOUCH
Tumblr media
headcanons of two of hyrule’s champions with a very affectionate partner ft. revali, link
— THEMES: gn!reader, spoilers, fluff, severe angst (during revali’s part only).
— NOTE FROM THE GANG: the last bullet point of revali’s is severely angsty and pretty dark. it wasn’t part of the original request, but please be aware of the tonal shift.
Tumblr media
LINK
When it comes to affection, Link doesn’t know the first thing to it and so having a partner that is very affectionate is so new to him and eye-opening. Everything is new to him, but this isn’t anything he was prepared for when he woke up on the Great Plateau. Not for a second should you think that he’s uncomfortable or doesn’t like it because he does! A misconception like that may cross many people’s minds given his reaction, but it’s not something he wants you to believe. After one hundred years of being asleep with only fragments of memories of a life and self he doesn’t remember and the clothes on his back, he’s not used to something like this. He’s very much touch-starved and doesn’t remember what it’s like to be hugged, to be held and loved upon. People don’t love Link, they love the Hylian Champion, the Hylian who wields the sword that seals the darkness. Those who did have been taken away by the Calamity, and Impa is slowly being taken by the passage of time. But you do; you love him and you’re still with him through thick and thin. Link doesn’t step out of his comfort zone and it’s not something he think he had, let alone knew about, but he’ll hold his hand up if he needs space. It’s not very often that he does that, and sometimes he does it out of habit because he’s used to fighting and physically keeping people at a distance.
When you hug him for the first time, Link would be so obviously confused and bewildered that he doesn’t understand why. He doesn’t move at all and just stands there, staring down at you with big blue eyes. It takes him a second to realize that you’re hugging him, and that’s only something he’s seen other people do than experience himself. It seems familiar, but not very much. As if he had hugged someone he cared for and lost long ago...Anyways, questions fill his mind and he doesn’t know what to do, but he doesn’t push you away. Why does his chest feel so...light? Is he sick? Then he starts to feel warm, mostly the upper part of his cheeks. They’re warm, too, he realizes. Body heat, that’s obvious, but there’s something so comforting about you being so close. If you’re not pinning his arms to his sides then his arms are up in the air until his elbows are level with his shoulders. He doesn’t know where to put his hands at first and awkwardly sets them on your shoulders, watching your expression to see if he’s doing it right. His hold around you is awkward and unsure, but he’s clearly trying because it makes you happy and he’s curious, especially when he starts to like it. He feels so safe and warm and loved like this, but he has no idea what’s in store for him. You’ll definitely have to guide him the first few times until he returns them without thinking twice, gently setting his cheek on your shoulder and his eyes watching your surroundings.
Link doesn’t mind if you’re very affectionate. Honestly, it’s one of the many things he needs and very much deserves after sacrificing his everything for Hyrule. He woke up and didn’t even get five minutes to gather his thoughts before he was tasked with quest after quest. He needs someone who can show him how much he’s cared for and recognize that he’s not always doing well. Someone who can soothe the teenager beneath the remaining Champion who has the weight of the world on his shoulders and tell him that you’ll always be there for him. Someone who can give him the touch and comfort he needs to know he’s not alone anymore. Just knowing you’re there is so helpful and you may not even know it. When the two of you are laying in bed—whether that be in Hateno, or on the ground somewhere around Hyrule that was deemed shelter for the night—and you’re pressed against his chest or his back. Cuddles like that are very new to him and he relates it to a hug, but it took him a little while to learn that you can fall asleep like that. Or even when he’s riding along a pathway and you’re behind him, arms wrapped around his abdomen with a grip that tightens when his mount jumps over something. Sometimes Link will move his hand from the reins and pat your hand or give it a little squeeze to tell you that you’re okay or remind himself that you’re still there and not some kind of haunting hallucination, but it’s never a sign to let go unless he needs to get off.
Considering everything else that’s going on in the world, PDA is the last thing on Link’s mind and doesn’t mind it at all. He doesn’t even know what it means and think it’s a monster, not an acronym. When you explain when it means, it would make a bit of sense to him, but his opinion doesn’t change much and he’d move on because he’s very chill about it. He’s going to be considerate if someone is uncomfortable by it, but he’s otherwise happy to be so close to you. He does get a little flustered when people coo and reflect on their happy days with their partners. If you take his hand while you’re out in public, he may look down to it in surprise to see what’s touching him, but that’s really it. He’ll even return it! His hands are so scarred and rough, so it’s very nice to feel how different your hands are compared to his. You’ll probably be the one giving the affection, but Link has his moments where he tries to do so first. He may be a little shy, but he’s trying his best to do what you have done with him so far. If you give him time, he may eventually warm up enough that it becomes common for him and it’s a regular occurrence. Though it’s not as frequent, his acts of affection are all so sweet and adorable. He’ll slip his hand into yours until his fingers tap against your palms and waits until he has your permission to lock your fingers together.
When he first received his first kiss from you, Link was flabbergasted. He knew what it was, but he never experienced it from what he remembered. It was so new and felt so weird, but in a good way that it left him breathless. Instead, he stares at you with wide eyes and a tiny rosy tint to his cheeks. The warmth that usually follows suit with hugs returns with a powerful intensity that he can only compare to being hit with a fire arrow. The scar on his side can attest to that. He then has the audacity to press his lips together and then murmur how it tasted. The first few times around, his kisses are very awkward and clunky, and you’d have to initiate them because he doesn’t know how to. He feels bad that he doesn’t know as much as you do and hopes you know that he’s trying. Once he gets the hang of things, Link will hold your face in his hands and peck your lips, or even take your hand in his and kiss at your knuckles before setting it on his cheek. That’s one of his favorites, and not just because he can sneak a kiss to your palm with a simple turn of his head. Kisses on the neck cause him to jump because he’s not used to them, and he finds them a bit ticklish but doesn’t mind them if it means he can get a giggle out of you. He’ll get used to them eventually, but not anytime soon.

Before the Calamity hit, Revali was also touch-starved but in a much lesser sense than Link. This comes from a mix of him not receiving affection as a whole from anyone in an unfortunately long time and him being too prideful to admit that with others around to hear. Would he love a hug and recognition for his efforts? Absolutely, without a doubt, but he has an image to uphold and maintain, and if anyone—especially those in Rito Village and the other Champions—heard that confession, he’d never live it down. It would completely destroy the reputation he’s spent so long creating! Instead, he keeps his beak shut and his wings to himself. What kind of warrior would people think of him if he was so cuddly? No one would take him seriously, and he worked too hard to let that happen. He was Revali, Rito Village’s greatest warrior who would go down as the savior of Hyrule! He worked his tail off for so long to be known and recognized as resolute and firm in his training with his bow and his prized ability dubbed Revali’s Gale. The compliments and praise are always welcome (he frankly can’t get enough of it), but they don’t wash the envy away and he sometimes catches himself glancing at families whenever they hug or couples sharing a kiss. He acts like it’s a bother to him that he had to see that and turns his head away with a huff while he walks off, but wraps his arms around himself in the form of a self-hug.
It’s not like Revali can’t get a partner, either. He can and that’s not the problem. His personality can be a bit too much for many people and so it’s difficult for him to start a serious relationship with someone. So when he does get a partner and you’re everything he’s dreamed of, Revali is taken aback by your affection. He’s aware of what it is, but isn’t used to it in the slightest at first. He’s not a very open Rito when it comes to that sort of thing and so if you unexpectedly give him a hug while the two of you are out, he’ll jump and squawk. He’ll definitely be a bit disgruntled and have a few ruffled feathers, but he can’t bring himself to be upset or push you away. If it was someone else, for sure, but he can’t do that to his favorite person and instead huffs as he crosses his wings, ignoring anyone that may be chuckling his way. He would do anything than admit that he’s enjoying having you so close and your affection. The only time he’d say no is if he’s doing Champion-related business or has a lot of eyes on him, but it’s otherwise free game. He would no doubt use his wing as a sort of shield to block anyone from watching if you want to give him a kiss, or wrap it around your shoulders like a blanket if you want to hug him or lean against him. He’ll still be alert and watchful of his surroundings and those around the two of you, but every now and again he’ll look down to you with the smallest of smiles reserved for you and you alone.
In private, Revali is a lot more willing to receive affection than he would be while he’s out and about. The eyes that pierce into him and remind him why he trains so hard, why he refuses to back down and bow his head and submission, are gone. Never for long; he has to go outside eventually, but the time he has without it is strangely nice. Now that it’s just the two of you, he’s less reserved and more welcoming to your affection, even if it doesn’t seem like it. This definitely applies to when you’re in the dark of night where very few can see you. Because Rito Village doesn’t have any walls, this time of night is your opportunity to sneak kisses and touches that you may not have been able to during the day. He’ll wrap his wings around you and keep you close, but won’t admit that he enjoys the feeling of your arms around him and your fingers brushing through his feathers. A lot of Rito don’t realize you’re there because of their poor night vision, and even in the morning because he’s holding you so close that his wings are concealing you. While you’ll most likely be the one to be initiating the affection, he does have his moments where he’ll drop a kiss on your head with his beak, or rest his head on yours or your shoulder, or bring his wing against your hand so you’ll get the message to hold onto it without him outright saying it. He has his moments where he’s still a bit jumpy and he refuses to admit it, but he grows adjusted to it.
Revali’s a Rito, he will preen and that’s something you’ve signed up for when you started a relationship with him. It comes with dating him, really any Rito out there; it’s just in his instincts. Honestly, as instinctual as it is, the way he goes about it is also very affectionate to the point that it doesn’t feel like he’s putting his all into it unless you two are alone. In public, he’ll be rather quick about it, but he’s very careful all the same and makes sure you look your best. To someone who’s not a fellow bird, it definitely looks he’s critiquing your appearance and fixing it, but those within the village know it when they see it. Regardless of the texture, he’ll preen your hair and he’s always so careful, especially if it is in a specific style. If you want him to stop then he will, but he does eye it because he’s acting against himself and will instead motion to your hair if it gets a bit disheveled from the wind or you just woke up. Revali would definitely adjust your clothing so there aren’t any wrinkles or bunched up parts that you may have unintentionally missed. If you start preening him, he’s not going to deny that he likes it but he’ll definitely pause for a moment. Lacking affection is one thing, but this? Definitely makes him lose his composure for a moment and he’ll ask what you’re doing before going back to what he was doing to the best of his ability. He’ll literally start melting if you run your fingers through his feathers and lightly scratch them, and you’re the only one who has the honor of doing his braids. He’ll sit down in front of you and fiddle with his bow as you work. “It’s...good,” he says, but you know he means: “I love it.”
In the confines of Vah Medoh, Revali’s mind doesn’t usually waver from a few rather dark thoughts. His demise, where he went wrong, what went wrong as a whole, what he felt in his last moments, stuff like that. It’s hard not to when he was forced to remain in the space where he fell, listening to the wicked and malevolent gurgles of Windblight Ganon that taunted him. Whether he’s hallucinating or is truly hearing that vile create, he doesn’t know and doesn’t think he ever will until it falls itself. It’s hard to remain optimistic when he’s watched sun and moonlight come and go and his Divine Beast circle around his home for days he’s lost count of, the haunting pink replacing the brilliant blue glow. But he has his moments where the horrible thoughts dwindle and he reminds himself of you and your touch that would no doubt cause the chill around him to fade. The way you’d hold him and remind him that he was loved and appreciated, and that his efforts were being recognized. The nights where he could hold you in his hammock, or you’d cheer him on when he hit his targets when he practiced, or even stepped closer to him when the cold became too much. Goddess, he missed that. He missed you. Do you think he’s a failure for letting the land of Hyrule down? For letting you down, even after all that he’s promised. Link will come, he always does (for the better or worse) and his fate lies in the Hylian’s hands, but he wonders what’s become of you. He knows he shouldn’t because then it really lets his mind spiral with thoughts he’ll never get answers to, but he hopes that you still live after all of these long years. And he hopes that if you are still around, then you’ll be able to see him stand tall on his Divine Beast that now aims at Hyrule Castle.

HAII!! if it hasnt been done yet, could you do revali x reader with basorexia? maybe reader really wants to give him a kiss but she really cant since,, yknow she has lips and he has a fuckin beak so she just decides to give him a lil smooch on the cheek? idk that was just an idea i had in mind, u dont have to write it!
22. basorexia - the overwhelming desire to kiss.
pairing: revali x reader summary:  revali spirits you away to enjoy the new years eve festivities.
   In the darkness of your room, you awoke to the sound of a soft tapping on your window. Twisting in the mess of blankets and pillows, you pushed aside the papers and textbooks that had accumulated at the foot of the bed, noticing only then that the candle at your desk had long since extinguished.
Head pounding, you rubbed at your tired eyes, feeling heavy. How long had you been asleep?
The tapping grew more insistent, forcing you to get up. Grumbling, you allowed yourself a second to stretch, ignoring how your room felt like water sloshing in a glass.
"Yeah, yeah. Hold on!" You said, hobbling to the window. Brushing the mess of hair from your eyes, you pulled the curtains away and roughly pushed it open.
The culprit hovered outside, eyes bright and smug. Revali looked very much at home though he was floating at a dizzying distance away from the ground. In the sleepy haze, he looked like a painting of some myth you had read before, with the late night sky as his backdrop and the outline of your window as his frame.
"Took you long enough."
"Apologies. I thought some tree branches were hitting the glass."
The Rito made a show of turning in the air. "Funny, I don't see any nearby trees."
"I know," you sighed, disappointed.
Revali rolled his eyes and poked his head through the window, feathers brushing past your cheek as he ignored your personal space in favour of scoping out your room. The stiff turn of his neck as he looked around reminded you of the curious and confused little birds that landed on the sill from time to time.
"Quite a dreary home you have here." Gesturing to the overall darkness, he pointed to your stack of scattered papers. "You shouldn't study without proper lighting, it's bad for your eyes."
"I was asleep."
"Why, I'm surprised. And here I thought you were one of the festive many who choose to stay awake at an ungodly hour in order to count down the remaining seconds of the year."
"Well," you shrugged, not wanting to meet his eyes. "Not like it's anything special. New year, same shit. What difference would a countdown do?"
Biting down on your tongue, you stopped yourself from saying anymore. The cold breeze sifted past the light shirt you were wearing, making you shiver.
He was right, normally you were one of those people who stayed up, excitedly watching the hands of the clocktower tick til they reached midnight. You enjoyed the energy of being in a collective crowd, waiting with bated breath for the first inhale and exhale you would take into the brand new year.
The final month on the Hylian calendar brought a sense of relief and a hope for new beginnings. Usually today of all days  you were at your happiest, jumping at the prospect of celebrating along with the rest of the kingdom and yet…
That sinking weight clawed at your chest again, forcing you to clamp down on it once more.
You grimaced. There it was; that bitter feeling. Hylia. How annoying. It twisted in your brain like an angry snake, pulling down your mood and enthusiasm along with it.
Last year you wanted to cheer and dance until the morning light. Now all you felt like was staring at the wall. Or falling asleep.
You blinked, turning back to the window to see Revali patiently waiting for you to continue. Feeling your face warm, you hustled your brain to get a move on. A coherent thought would be great right about…now!
"Hey have you ever wondered why they don't grow trees on this side of the castle? It's not fair the more expensive quarters get all the pretty greenery. I mean, non-noble guests still need that sweet oxygen everyone keeps raving about, you get me?" Shut up brain, that's enough. I said a coherent thought. C o h e r e n t.
Stars in his wings, Revali shook his head but answered anyway. "I agree, it's hardly fair. Also go change into something warm, we need to get you outside."
"What? Why?"
Something in the Rito's expression clued you in to the fact that he wasn't in the mood to play stupid. You've been sitting in the dark for the past few days and it didn't take a private investigator to know it was playing tricks with your head. "Fine, but when I say we go back--we go back, got it?"
He huffed, turning around to give you some privacy. "I promise on my honour."
The brightly lit lanterns of the town square made you squint as you shuffled closer to your guide, the sound of the city loud in your ears.
Though less prominent, the twisting feeling in your gut continued, making you more hyper-alert than usual to the world around you. Adjusting the sleeves of your coat, you followed Revali past the streets, the Rito expertly navigating through the sea of people.
Somewhere along the way he had taken your hand, and you told yourself it was a good way for you both to stick together. Wouldn't want you getting lost and spending the final minutes of the year playing an elaborate game of hide and seek after all. He was a great friend like that. Nevermind that everytime you would hold his wing a little tighter to remind yourself that he was there, he would always squeeze back.
You needed a distraction.
Just focus on everything that's not him.
The night was alive with the sound of music. It didn't matter if you partied with an alcoholic drink in hand, or a glass of milk, everyone in Hyrule was filled with an addictive buzz that came with an event that only happened once a year. Vendors with bright smiles called out from their stalls, the smell of freshly baked sweets or the sizzle of a barbecue beckoning you to take a closer look. To your left, a group of friends raised their hands in the air, loudly welcoming a Goron that had turned up late but regardless had finally arrived.
The archer followed your line of sight, guessing the question bouncing in your head. "Daruk is in Eldin, probably rattling Death Mountain with that story again about the Moblin camp and the barrel of explosives."
"I love that story."
"Of course you would."
"Sorry about your feathers though."
"Whatever, they grew back."
"How about the one's on your--"
"Anyway," he interjected quickly, playfully nudging you to the side and glowering at your laughter. "We've been told to 'take a break'. The other Champions have chosen to spend this day with their families and loved ones. We are planning to regroup and continue preparations in the days following."
"How about you?"
"I already said it."
Your cheeks coloured at the implications of his words, mind replaying the previous sentence. Families and loved ones. Families and loved ones. He didn't even hesitate. You both were not related. So that left you with...
"Woah!" Digging your heels into the dirt, you abruptly paused your brisk walk and saved yourself from colliding with the archer's back.
Stopping at one of the stalls, Revali held two fingers up. You glanced up at him questioningly but he refused to give anything away, expression relaxed. The vendor returned quickly, the Rito thanking them quietly and placing the payment on the bright yellow table cloth along with a large tip in their jar.
He turned around, dropping a square shaped pastry into your hands. It was some kind of rice cake, with a fluffy exterior and a golden baked surface that smelled of butter and felt warm like the sun.
Taking a bite, you smiled at the hints of coconut that were hidden in its sweet flavour. The sticky treat was familiar somehow. "Is this so luck sticks to you in the new year?"
Revali scoffed, though failed to hide his own smile behind the cake held in his wing. "You said the same thing when we first met. You need new material."
"Says the baron of bird puns."
"I am the king." He punctuated the statement by biting into his own rice cake. Offering his wing, he gently took your hand once more, turning back to step again into the busy promenade.
Following him, you noticed that the crowds ever so slowly began to thin. A lantern lit hill was coming up. The grassy expanse was dotted with a few people, though it was blessingly not as populous as the town square. "I should be the one that's surprised. Thought you hated crowds unless their attentions were all on you."
"It's tolerable so long as I am with good company."
The both of you walked up the hill with an unspoken agreement to make it to the top. Taking a seat on the grass, you allowed yourself to breathe, chest heaving from the small burst of exercise after days of being sedentary.
The twinkling lights of Castle Town stretched out before you. Gazing at it, you could imagine all the untold stories hidden in the glowing little pockets of the alleys and in the hushed whispers behind closed doors. Funny how in a city so full of people, one can feel so alone.
Revali was the first to speak, breaking you from your thoughts. "I think I can understand now. Looking at it from this distance, it really can feel like nothing much has changed."
You continued to stare at the lights, trying to focus on a certain string in an attempt to ground yourself. "Yeah. Sometimes it feels like though the world continues to spin, I'm remaining completely still. Just stagnant."
Frowning, you ran your hands through the grass, feeling the dirt shift under your fingers. You could feel your frustrations building, bubbling up to the surface with no way of dragging them back down.
"And the challenges just get worse every year. How am I going to face those old problems and these new ones if I'm still the same lost person I was back then?"
Your voice echoed at the last sentence, making you hide your head in embarrassment. That was loud.
Some strangers relaxing on the hill turned around to flash you an annoyed glare, before quickly returning to their picnics after spotting the Great Eagle Bow on your friend's back.
 "I'm so sorry." You wanted more than anything then to dig a hole and hibernate preferrably for the next hundred years or so. "I'm yelling, that isn't like me. I'm so so--"
"There's nothing to be sorry about. You needed to say it." He glanced at you from the corner of his eye. There was a serious element to it that made it a little hard to breathe. "There is one part of that I don't agree with, however."
"What is it?"
"That entire section about you, how did you put it, stagnanting." He twisted a wing in the air, thinking on his words before pointing a feather directly at your face. "You're fully capable of enacting the change you want to see in yourself."
You felt a little dizzy now. But another kind of dizzy, one very different from the vertigo you felt waking up in the darkness of your room.
"And who said you were exactly the same as you were back then? You've changed. In a good way. You're stronger and more capable of things I'm sure the person you were two years ago or even less couldn't even fathom doing."
Turning to face you, Revali gave you his full attention, compelling you to do the same as the cadence of his speech joined the steady rhythm of your own beating heart. From the back of your mind, you could barely register the sound of people gathering together, their voices floating into the cold night air.
'Ten!'
"It's difficult to see your own progress from a distance."
'Nine!'
"So take my advice and start looking at yourself up close for once."
'Eight!'
He had that expression on his face, one that said he was thinking too hard about something. It was like watching him try to pull the planets together with just a piece of string. His brows were furrowed so deep that your fingers wished to run over his feathers and smoothe the worried creases.
'Seven!'
You slowly reached out to him, giving him enough time to back away. Revali stilled as your hands traced up the nape of his neck, leaning in as his pulse thrummed underneath the soft pads of your fingertips.
'Six!'
He opened his beak the moment you reached his face. You paused, half expecting him to tell you to let go and pretend like it never happened.
Instead, he called out your name.
'Five!'
He said your name again, though quieter now. It was enough to tug at the invisible force drawing you two together. Enough so that the polite distance nervously enforced by the both of you gradually began to dissipate, trailing away like a ribbon of smoke as you both leaned in closer.
'Four!'
"May I--," He cleared his throat, eyes darting away for a second before they were back on you again. Bright green in the lantern light. Emeralds in the desert sand.
'Three!'
"May I kiss you?"
"Yes."
'Two!'
"Your way or mine?" You couldn't help but joke. Revali smiled, exhaling a soft joyful laugh before pressing his forehead to yours.
'One!'
'Happy New Year!'
An earth-shaking boom rattled your ears, but all you could think of in that moment was Revali and the feel of his feathers against your skin; the utter elation of being so close to someone you deeply cared for and that cared just as deeply for you.
In the dazzling light you lifted your head from his, both your eyes meeting for a brief moment. Hands moving, you gently angled his face with a steady hand, feeling then the soft, butterfly light brush of his wings on your waist.
Closing your eyes again, you leaned in to press your lips against his beak, the blush on your face warmer than any fever or furnace. The Rito's soft sigh was barely audible as you trailed your kisses upwards, stopping at the red circle on his cheek.
Revali laughed again as you turned his face to press a kiss to the identical red mark on the other side. "You're very thorough."
"You deserve it." You beamed. "And this is just the beginning, just you wait at the end of the countdown I'll--"
"Actually my dear," he grinned, pointing to the sky.
"Huh?"
Above you were the vibrant colours of the firework display. It was beautiful and awe-inspiring, but a confirmation that you were definitely minutes in to the new year.
"Oh," you said, before shaking your head with a smile. "It's fine, we got 12 more months to prepare ourselves for the next one."
Revali nodded, pulling you closer so he could press your foreheads together again.
"Indeed," he grinned. "Now will you finish your sentence? What exactly were you going to do at the end of the countdown?"

Hi, sorry if I'm overwhelming you with Requests, but I had an idea for an Imagine that I'd really love to see you write!! Could you please write some Headcanons for how Link, Zelda, Sidon and Revali (Age of Calamity timeline for Sidon btw) would react to a young woman who has a very strong connection to the Spirits being sent to teach Zelda how to unlock her power? Like it's a young woman, around 18 years old, who has a natural ability to communicate with all manner of Spirits, maybe even is part Spirit in some way, so she gets appointed by the King of Hyrule to teach Zelda how to do the same? And maybe she's super nice and excited too? Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!!
oh darling you're totally fine i really appreciate it :D
i hope i did this justice! it's a really neat concept
i also made it an x reader with those attributes if that's okay :)

Hylia's Guide
[BOTW x fem!Reader]
Headcanons (Link, Zelda, Revali, Sidon)
warnings: none
takes place during Age of Calamity!
also for headcanon's sake,,,,,being a descendant of hylia in this case doesnt mean that you're of the same family? if that makes sense? okay so like reader is descended from hylia and technically so is zelda but they aren't blood related in any way HAHA hope that makes sense
~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~
Let's set the scene, yeah?
You were one of the descendants of Hylia from centuries past, now a ghost in the afterlife as part of the universe itself.
Naturally, you would be surprised when you became sentient once more and blinked open your eyes in the middle of Hyrule Field. In your head rang a soothing voice that you both heard in your head and felt in your bones. In an instant, you knew it was Hylia communicating with your physical form again after years of dormant sleep.
The voice instructed that you were to aid Zelda in her studies of connecting to her powers. Hylia could not intervene directly with Zelda, of course, but the most the Goddess could do was send someone in her place. And that was you: a descendant of Hylia's own bloodline resurrected from the dead come to help the princess in her efforts. Easy enough, right?
Convincing the King and his guards of the situation was difficult, let alone trying to get him to allow you to assist his precious daughter with her practice. The only proof that you had of any story that you told were the markings on your hands and chest.
Three distinct triangles etched themselves on your body: one on the back of each hand and the third on your chest. Your powers had long since been passed on to the next descendant of Hylia, but you were still full of the knowledge of how to use Hylia's gift and how to communicate with the spirits.
•••
Link
Link was wary of you at first, being the princess's appointed knight and all, but he soon figured that you weren't as much of a threat as he initially thought
You were kind and excited to meet someone else who also held Hylia's gift (albeit not necessarily awakened, but still) and Link knew that Zelda would be safe in your hands
While going on spiritual treks with Zelda and Link, you almost always made the meals because both Zelda and Link can't really cook lmao
Coming from an entirely different era, you had a big book of recipes in your head that you brought into reality with every meal you made, and Link definitely wasn't complaining
He appreciated your wide breadth of knowledge of different foods, plants, and wildlife that you might encounter on your travels
It made planning protective measures for the princess all the easier
Sometimes the ventures to connect to Hylia didn't bear any fruit (and that's okay because the gift takes plenty of patience!) and the mood could become solemn quickly
But you were always determined to lift the mood and lighten everyone's attitude, and it always worked!
You would excitedly ramble off stories about where you grew up or what you liked to do on your own travels back in the day, and it would always make Link feel warm that you had such fond memories you were willing to share with him
When Zelda needed time to herself to try to connect to the spirits and Hylia, you and Link would hang around each other and bond
Link would listen attentively as you talked about the cultural and time differences between your world and this one, sharing sympathy when you expressed nostalgia over your time lost
But you would quickly turn it around to the positives, which is what Link thought was a wonderful quality that you had
If you ever got caught off guard while on ventures by the Yiga Clan or rogue animals, Link would fight just as hard as he would in larger battles to keep you safe
Over the time you spent together, Link grew very fond of you and always was at your side if he wasn't immediately attending to the princess
Once your guidance and knowledge finally broke through to Zelda and her power awakened, Link was so proud of you for fulfilling your duty
He was worried that you would disappear from his life once you completed Hylia's task, but you connected to the spirits after the fact and bargained with them
At the end of it all, you were able to live your life through again with Link by your side :)
•••
Zelda
Goddess was Zelda relieved when she found out that she would be having a guide to help her unlock her powers
Upon meeting you, she was absolutely floored with your kindness and willingness to help her with her problems
You were a wonderful mentor to Zelda, teaching her things about the different spirits and how to harness the power that she never would have dreamed of researching on her own
And wow there was a lot of information HAHA
Zelda was also transfixed with the fact that you came from another lifetime, and you were more than happy to tell her all about your life before this one
She would also take very detailed notes about everything you said, enamored with the way you spoke and how excited you got about things you loved
Quiet study time in Zelda's room would often turn into challenges of you trying to make her laugh with small tidbits of stupid stunts you would pull
Of course Zelda couldn't hold back a smile when you were around, so the challenges would fall short but with you falling into fits of laughter
You always brightened Zelda's mood whenever she was down about a failed connection attempt, urging her to try more and be patient with herself
Zelda was thankful to Hylia for sending you because honestly she wouldn't know what to do without someone that was as kind and generous as you were with spreading knowledge about your gifts
And when they finally awakened, Zelda couldn't be more happy!
Hyrule was now safe with Zelda's power awakened and Ganon on the edge of being sealed away
She pleaded that you find a way to stay in her time and teach her more about the spirits and Hylia herself
Your heart warmed at the thought that someone wanted you to stay, and it warmed even more at the fact that someone loved you enough to want to keep you forever :)
•••
Sidon
Sidon met you when he was summoned with the other Champion successors
You were the first to greet him and explain what had happened with the time jumping and all that, and you helped to put his nerves at ease
His own excitable and boisterous personality bounced off of your own energy and buzz!
Fighting side by side with you, Sidon admired how you always had a strategy and were looking out for Zelda as if she was your own sister
He was surprised upon learning your story: never had he known that Hylia had the power like that to bring someone back to help those in the present
Sidon tried his best to stay by your side whenever he could, wanting to keep your blind spots covered just in case
In your time, you had known the Zora and actually knew King Dorephan when he was a young little guppy, and your stories of Dorephan never failed to make Sidon laugh
Sidon in turn shared his own tales of the evolved Zora Domain, and you found his storytelling absolutely captivating
Sidon felt a pull to you like he had to no one else before, and he nurtured that pull with his own heart
He made sure you had enough supplies, checked in on you immediately when you came back from a far off mission
Just an all around softie I think! Sidon has always been caring like that :)
When it was time for him to go back, you discovered a way that you could jump with him back to his own time
After all, your mission with Zelda from Hylia was over. Why shouldn't you be able to live your life through again?
You jumped back with Sidon to a world vastly different than the one you had just been in, and even more different than the one you were born into
But with Sidon, it always felt like home!

Revali
Revali didn't want to be impressed, but he was Definitely Impressed
Your composure about the whole situation was amazing, and you handled all the questions everyone had with grace
And your kindness was overwhelming (in a good way) with the fact that you opened your mind to such possibilities of even being resurrected like that
Revali admired you through and through
He would be incessantly curious about what the afterlife was like, how the spirits communicated with you, what Hylia was like
You, of course, couldn't accurately answer most questions because, well, you couldn't remember, but you appreciated his desire to learn
You loved the way that he fought: with purpose and intent. There was little to no hesitation with Revali, he always had a plan
When you would go to treks with Zelda and Link to try to summon Zelda's power, Revali would make comments here and there insisting that he tag along just in case
Poor Rito really just wanted to spend more time with you, that's all!
If he did tag along, it would be to Lanayru with his knowledge of the cold weather
He would rattle off safety facts of mountain weather and gear you would need, and you would be happy to listen as long as he was talking to you
Revali would also love to hear about your old life, and since you could go on for hours about it all, he would sit and absorb everything that came out of your mouth
He was smitten in a matter of weeks!
He could see the care and sympathy you had for Zelda as she struggled and triumphed in her process of opening her powers, and he appreciated that you could care so much for someone like that
Revali subconsciously protected you even if there was a leaf that fell in the way of your path, as he was always on alert in case someone caught you off guard
As your time came to a close and Zelda awakened her powers, Revali demanded that you stay (with love, of course)
And stay you did, making a bargain with the spirits and living the rest of your second life in the company of the Rito warrior :)
~~~~~~~~~
hope i got this good!! i thought the concept was really neat and i kinda wished they did something like that actually :/ zelda didn't deserve that angst
requests are welcome :)
I have the idea of revali who's being an annoying tsundere with reader(kinda the way he acts with link or saying things like "you don't know how lucky you are to be with me") but, one day, reader find a rito mask. When revali sees them, he doesn't recognize them, acts friendly and towards him, making reader fall in love with him. When they confess their love in the rito form, revali deny them saying that he's in love with reader. It can go angst or fluff. Also if the reader could be neutral/male
No problem, it's actually the first time I see headcanons with a male/neutral reader, but I don't deny it, Revali being tsundere it just suits right.
Also, I'm so sorry for taking so long, I imagine a lot of things but it was SO long to write.
I hope you like it ✨
Revali being a tsundere with reader (neutral/male).
Tumblr media
At first, Revali is pretty much of a gentleman.
He's not someone who is disrespectful to other people, less with the Rito.
But he's an asshole with Link and, sadly, you.
The most sad part for Link, is that Revali treats you better.
That doesn't stop him for teasing you A LOT.
He seems that he doesn't mind your company.
No, actually, he doesn't even seems like he cares about you.
But you two always find each other together, for some reason.
I wonder what it could be....
He always invites you to practice with each other.
At first it seems like a really good idea, but....
You always find him overworking himself.
Of course, you're worried about him, but if you get any closer, he'll just pretend he's just fine, like nothing happened.
“You seem like you want to impress someone with all that work...”
“Don't overthink yourself... I do it just for the protection of my village”
“I was going around Rito Village, some guards where talking you've been wondering something about sword or other kinds of weaponry, it's weird since you focus so much on archery”
“You have some problem with me want to know more of how the little knight and you fight? Of course I know this stuff already, I'm a warrior after all”
“Hmm... Link is not going to answer anything, but you can ask me if you want...”
“I could never be a problem in your training”
“Then why you have been inviting me to practice here?”
“I want to be sure you are well prepared, and you must feel so lucky, you're being trained for the great Revali, there's no other archer with my skill”
You two always have this kind of conversations, but Revali always finish them with something egocentric like that.
You didn't like him a lot, he sometimes just acted nice but out of nowhere, he starts acting like a douchebag.
But you see him how he treats other people, like princess Mipha and princess Zelda, he treated them kindly.
One day, wandering at a forest, you found a mask.
A rito mask, there was details that resemble their marks, it had some kind of beak.
You out of curiosity, grabbed it and use it thinking it was just a mask.
But seconds after you transform into a Rito.
Terrified you go running to the Rito village, probably to find princess Zelda, Link or other Champion except for Revali.
“Alright... Revali is always on the practice range, there's no way he's gonna be on the same time as you at Rito Village”.
Surprise ✨he was at the same time as you in Rito Village✨
You thought he was going to notice it was you, and start make fun of you.
But he didn't even notice it.
He treated you... Well, normally, with respect, without mocking you or anything.
“I never saw you in Rito Village, are you a traveler?”
You just nodded at that question, in fear he might recognize your voice.
“You can't talk? I have encounter some Rito with that disability”
Oh he didn't even react like he reacted with Link, and you thought he didn't like the ones who don't talk.
You decide to talk, since you don't know how is the sign language with the Rito, and you would not take risks with this.
“No, I do not have any type of disability”
You prayed to Hylia so he can't recognize your voice.
He was kind of surprised, you don't know if it was your voice or that you can talk.
“My mistake, I don't want to be disrespectful with any Rito, what's your name?”
"Shitshitshitshitshitshit, now what I'm going to do?" You thought in exasperation.
You came up with a random name but enough to be Rito like.
He didn't mind, he still treated you like a friend.
“Are you gonna stay some days? There's a flight range on the Hebra Mountain, you can go and practice any time you want, if something happens, you can find me all day there unless I'm busy with Vah Medoh”
Maybe you wanted to continue talking to him in your rito form.
You two started spending more time together.
You were really worried for the mask.
When it's going to let go? What are you even supposed to do?
You tried to find out anything about mask that transform you into completely different species.
Sadly, you didn't find much, just some old tales, but nothing out of that.
You continue spending time with Revali even going to the flight range.
You come up with excuses, he believe them.
You fall in love with him, he never treated you like that.
You decide to confess your feelings.
It didn't go as planned...
He didn't feel the same.
You contained the crying, you were kind of used to that.
“My apologies, but... I already have someone else who I'm actually interested in, he's the most strong, intelligent Hylian and their beauty is... Unexplainable, I might have the ability of defeating, singlehandedly, an army of monsters, but once he's there, my eyes can't stop looking at them... I must reject this confession, but I'm proud of at least young Rito are interested in becoming better then me, I have to go... There's some matters with the Champions, and it's important, excuse me...”
Now I write it, this seems like Revalink, not my favorite ship but holy cow.
You need to take that mask off, NOW.
You had no other choice but to tell the Champions.
You go as fast you could.
You didn't know how to fly, at least for too long.
You get to the castle and asked to see the Champions.
Of course.... They didn't let you.
Because, you know... A weird Rito just asking to see the Champions.
Then you asked to at least know where Impa was, you said it was important.
That time they took you with her.
“My apologies, but one of the appointed knights of the princess is missing, we haven't know about him for days, please tell anyone else about your problem, I'm occupied with their research”
“I think I know where they are...”
You explained everything to Impa except for the part of falling in love with Revali.
Of course, she didn't believe at first, but when you continue explaining and saying things that no one else does just.... You, she believed you.
“Then what's your excuse of not telling the champions?”
“Being fair, I thought it would make no difference and Revali makes it worst”
“ You're Zelda's appointed knight, not a teenager with anxiety, you must know that you must be brave in order to protect your princess, let's go with Purah, she must know about this”
You two decide to try keep it secret, but sadly, the Champions were with Purah.
“Who is this unexpected guest Impa?”
“Your majesty, they have something to explain, please hear closely, it might sound crazy but it's not”
You tried to explain everything the best you could, omitting the part of Revali, you just said that you never talked to him.
Revali was more then surprised, Urbosa was calmed about it, Daruk and Mipha were confused. Zelda and Link were curious about it, but he just watch form behind.
Purah didn't knew much about but she did everything she could to help you.
It was kind of difficult to take oof the mask, but you made it.
Ngl, it was a little bit painful.
The mask disappeared after they remove it.
Purah asked you how do you found that mask and you answered.
After it, Revali asked you to talk in private, he seemed distracted.
You go to somewhere private and talked with Revali, first of all, he apologized for acting the way he does with you and for not at least recognizing your voice.
“I've been worried about you all those days, wandering where you could be, the guards didn't find a sign of you anywhere, I feared that... Some of those Yiga members where captured you or worst...”
“I'm just one of the assigned knights for Zelda, also I can't use the master sword or posses any kind of magic that can destroy Ganon they might see me just as another guard”
“It doesn't matter, all the Champions were worried about you...”
“I know.... Also, about what I said to you in the rito form... Can you forget about it? Please”
He smirked, he seemed to take that as a joke.
“I could never forget the confession of the most important Hylian for me”
“That's the thing, on the moment I wasn't a Hylian, I was a Rito, it seems you liked me better like that...”
“That's not true, if I liked you better as a rito, I would have accept your confession”
“I don't think being a Hylian would change anything...”
“Who told you that? I can't recall mentioning that”
If I continue writing dialogue, this will be a frickin one-shot, and I already have a lot to edit.
You two decide to spend more time together with some conditions.
Revali will be honest and you don't disappear out of nowhere and for a long time.
After spending time together, the bond between you and him was pretty solid for a relationship.
Revali never let go his tsundere side, but he can't help it.
And rest is history.....
Sometimes I wonder what would've been like if there were an absolute sheikah-"FREAK" tech-NERD woman as one of the champions or as a critical hand of knowledge in BREATH OF THE WILD. It would have had so potential of a different level of growth, whilst all the way, adding new air. (Purah and Robbie may have been depicted as 'nerdy' tech geniuses, but I'm talking about a take of a real nerd here.)
Unless it has been practiced naturally, regularly from since early on enough to 'catch up' or it just COMES by naturally, it takes really, REALLY hard EFFORT to be able to properly socialize and be treated as a 'normal' person, with everyday-average natural conversation flow and responses. And I have never SEEN THIS kind of trying, SPONTANEOUS struggle outputted BY the nerd being depicted, like ANYWHERE.
It's so hard to get yourself to even try to interact, and every depressing emotion from a 'normal talk' failure absolutely exists as a form of 'What's WRONG with me?', 'Am I JUST NOT MEANT to be able to interact just as NORMALLY?', and most of all; 'Will this, all my slip-ups, the awkwardness, their alienations, EVER CHANGE?'. What hurts and troubles most is that no one, no one EVER teaches how to DO this; you just HAVE to learn it ON YOUR OWN, SOLELY on yourself and your own experiences; but it is by far one of the MOST important things to overcome if you ever want to even have a CHANCE to be able to truly LIVE and PROSPER WITH THE MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE in this world.
If such struggles, perhaps as everlasting GROWING PAINS even, were to be depicted, since only very little depict 'nerd characters' accurately as actual nerds(let alone nerd girls), the take on this kind of a real-nerd character to grow through these concerns would have added a special, whole another meaning.
Character growth would have included her having to get along with, learn how to, and practice socializing.
Before the Calamity, she would have had lived alone, preferred to be alone, not finding mostly anything other than her study to be that much more than a bulk. People would seem to avoid talking to her since who-knows-when, having it show either more subtly or bluntly, and it always went awkward on conversations whatever the context.
It wouldn't be that she wasn't trying; it would be that she had found and started her proper indulge in her interests MUCH earlier than others, which, while being a gift, would have also been what made her lack THAT much experience in conversing with others, consequently. She would sense that she wasn't very good at talking, and would always wonder what part had she said wrong, or even what was the general matter with HERSELF. She would have never gotten an answer to either of them, and would gradually come to shut herself away from others, it being the only workaround she could think of.
The only people she would be able to speak comfortably enough with would be Purah, Robbie, and Zelda, who would share the near-identical level of the genuine interest towards the ancient technology. She would always be grateful for them for sincerely listening to whatever she got up her sleeve. Sometimes, even they would not be able to exactly catch her words (for she was quite the work-centered eccentric herself, and the only one who surpasses them of that level), but they would still enjoy the talk and understand her well.
Purah, being the bright, bouncy extrovert, would have given no mind to how she spoke. Though sometimes, she would notice that something in the way she talked was somewhat off; but she would always just brush it away, being keen not to miss any of her detail of essence.
Robbie, being the articulated enthusiast, would have barely noticed any flaws in her speaking. He would focus only on the context of her words, never ceasing to praise her ingenuity and how profound the details were in her each and every composition. Which would be much to her flattery, since he would really quite be the fluent one in language, with all that verbose expressions he had subconsciously made practice(though he would never really realize and admit it).
Zelda, being the royal, yet ever so attentive scholar, would have always brightened up in fascination about every research she would conduct, every piece of gear she would create, and every shard of new knowledge of the profound, mechanical essence she would provide.
Because it would be while having her position of status give her much to learn, how to exploit (in prevailing in discussions and arguments) for persuasion and closure, and to engage in both formal and fluent interactions since early on, she would have been a well-schooled, well-trained natural in conversing, understanding, and reasoning with others.
Due to this she would always have known, noticing her slips, how her hinges would falter whenever the topic gets too far away from her technical themes, but she would never let any of these show, however. Even while subconsciously being concerned, she would have made it to herself that it would be nothing more than small troubles, for it is, after all, one of the traits what had built her absolute focus and who she is.
The scientist would have come to regard so as well, and see it as little to no trouble over time.
That is, until Zelda would request her to join her innermost group of opposing the Calamity.
At first, she would have faced difficulties, anxieties; of having to get along with the champions, people, who were just so... different. But perhaps that would have also been her motive to try to open up, one more time, as they were, she would notice, also different. She would see that they wouldn't be as wary, but rather curious, with some of them even excited to get to know about her.
Over time, with Zelda's words reassuring encouragement, she would come to familiarize herself with them. She would admire Mipha's integrity and adaptive agileness, Revali's extravagant derogations and acute, (physically) lethal shots, Link's robust tranquility and (both physically and mentally) insurmountable strength, and Urbosa's lengths of wisdom, with how her movement would always be as a concerted flow no matter the situation.
As for Daruk, he would have been the most influence for her to be again, she would be intimidated by his sheer bulk and voice at first but quickly find her peace and trust towards him; and over time, within herself as well.
For it would be, quite surprisingly, his booming laughter on whatever her words, especially on her slips where she would talk awkward, while never sounding as the mocking type with not even a hint of faux nor out of line; but somehow, being always the hearty, warming type of laugh, what would heal her to the extent of where she would finally be able to find the courage to confront directly, seek for help in regaining her once-lost growth.
In helping her to adjust her talk, even before she would actually come to confront herself, he would be rather blatant in giving suggestions for her speaking, but he always had a way so as not to disrupt the flow and her sentient. And as she never would have had received any similar sort of conversing directions before, that kind of straightforwardness would have been, perhaps, what would build the critical foundation for her to converse more clearly; to finally be, articulate.
Are you open to prompts? I would suggest Link picking out new bangles for Revali's braids or something, if you'd like to use that!
Apparently I am open to prompts and would like to use that, because I went and wrote a whole post-Pinesong oneshot for it :D Here you go!
--
“Topaz,” Link said decisively, his voice slightly muffled by the thin blue veil that hid his just-too-angular jawline. “Definitely topaz. I assume it works for a Rito the same way it does for Hylians?”
“Of course.” Isha, the Gerudo jeweler, nodded eagerly. “Topaz harnesses the power of lightning to protect its wearer from electricity, no matter who wears it. A wise choice if your friend plans on traveling the desert for much longer—and the color would suit her nicely.”
“Do you think so?”
Revali couldn’t help but shift defensively under the somehow identical stares of consideration that turned his way, though in every other aspect the two humans examining him could not have looked more different. With her glowing dark skin and fiery hair worked elaborately beneath finely crafted ornaments that were no doubt proof of her skill as a jeweler, Isha was the very definition of put together beauty, so that Link looked almost drab and washed out in comparison. Some other Hylian might have disappeared completely in her presence—Isha would have towered head and shoulders over Link even without her golden heels, and the muscles that rippled beneath her sparse outfit were as hard and defined as any Gerudo’s Revali had ever seen—and yet… well, Link was still Link, even halfway hidden behind colorful silks. With one hand propped against his waist and the other scratching thoughtfully at his chin, Link inhabited his Gerudo clothing with a confidence that Revali had not expected from the way he’d blushed when he first pulled it out—a confidence that left Revali unaccountably flustered. He himself was not nearly so comfortable with his own feminine disguise, as evidenced by his constant prodding at the two looped braids that hung to either side of his face. How did Rito women function with those heavy braids dangling like that?
“You’re right,” Link agreed, and Revali raised an eyebrow as Link reached beneath his beak to push it up, examining his raised profile intently. “The jade went well with her eyes, I think, but the topaz…”
“The topaz will make her sparkle,” Isha insisted from his other side, holding an uncut yellow stone up against Revali’s face and squinting at them together. “You see it now, don’t you? What do you think, Vali?”
Revali rolled his eyes over the nickname Link had chosen as Revali’s impromptu alibi.
“I think that this place might be a waste of rupees after all,” he griped, jerking his head away. He might have reluctantly agreed to let Link buy him a gift from here if only because it made practical sense—there were an alarming number of creatures in the desert intent on shooting volts of electricity through his body—but he hadn’t agreed to being treated like an ornament himself, pushed and prodded and stared at.
Isha’s jaw snapped shut as she withdrew the gem, outrage sparking to life behind her eyes, and Link was quick to wave a dismissive hand.
“I’ll worry about my own rupees, thank you,” he said lightly, though Revali recognized the note of reproach in his voice. It was an effort not to stick out his tongue in response. “I told you, this is a gift. Besides,” he added impishly, “I’ll feel better knowing you have some form of protection if another electric keese sneaks up on you in the night.”
Revali bristled. “That was one time!”
“I assume you’ll want it crafted into a ring shape like the jade you showed you me earlier,” Isha interjected, addressing Link exclusively now as she turned towards him. “To hold back her hair, is that right? Earrings will not do her much good.”
“If you can,” Link said, fishing one of Revali’s large jade beads from his pouch and offering it to her as a sample. Revali watched it pass into her hands longingly, his unbound hair damp against the back of his neck in this dratted heat. “It’s fine if it costs a bit more than normal. This isn’t the sort of thing I usually ask you to make.”
“Nonsense,” Isha said briskly, brushing his concern aside. “It’s not as though I’ve never made rings before, and this is quite similar. I assume you brought the necessary materials?”
Link nodded, plunging his hand into his pouch again, although something he found there made him hesitate.
“Do you think…” Withdrawing a large, clear stone, Link half-glanced at Revali before avoiding looking at him altogether. “I know it’s not as practical, but… would a diamond be more traditional?”
Isha frowned. “Traditional in what way?”
“Well…” Link’s voice lowered to a whisper, and abruptly Revali realized that he’d been cut out of the conversation completely—an impression that Isha immediately encouraged by turning her back on him. In retrospect, he might not have needed to insult her entire livelihood earlier. The oppressive heat of this desert had left him admittedly snappish, with even less inclination to temper his tongue than usual.
With nothing to do but wait for them to finish, Revali wandered aimlessly around the dim storefront, looking around. The warm, recessed lighting and mismatched rugs kept the small room on the charming side of elegant, though the isolated pedestals that displayed the shop’s wares atop velvety pillows left no doubt of its luxurious nature. Running a reluctantly curious eye over the glittering pieces of jewelry, Revali noticed with surprise that he recognized most of them from Link’s collection. Perhaps Isha had not been exaggerating after all when she had lovingly called Link her shop’s patron.
Stopping in front of a pair of topaz earrings identical to the ones Link had put on that morning, Revali inspected the neatly penned price tag beneath them. And choked.
“I would still suggest the topaz,” he heard Isha say, the volume of their conversation rising to discernible levels once more. “It is more important for the final piece to suit its wearer than to cling to some tradition that neither of you cares for, I think, and your girlfriend… there is a spark to her.” Isha glanced back at Revali with a smile that showed too many teeth. “Yes, I think topaz will do very nicely.”
“You don’t think ruby would fit her better?” Link said dryly as Revali frowned, still wrapping his head around the thought that here he was Link’s girlfriend, and Isha threw back her head and laughed.
“Perhaps you should wear ruby, to guard against a scalding tongue,” she quipped, bowing her head in thanks as Link passed over a small handful of yellow gems. “Sarqso, my friend. This should be ready for you in about a day or so.”
“Link,” Revali hissed, drawing him aside as Isha wandered towards the back of the shop, still chuckling to herself over whatever joke they’d made at his expense. “Link, listen to me. You cannot spend this kind of money on a… a gift! A silly trinket!”
“What?” Link looked blankly up at Revali, then at the price tag he was gesturing towards furiously, and his expression cleared. “Oh, that! No, don’t worry about it. Isha gives me a good discount because I helped her get started with supplies.” Revali relaxed, somewhat mollified, until Link added casually, “I think she’ll only ask for about half that much.”
“That… is still a hefty sum of money,” Revali argued tightly. “I doubt that I even have that many rupees to rub together.”
Too late, Revali realized that he’d maybe revealed more about the nature of his misgivings than he’d intended to, because Link’s eyes were suddenly understanding above his veil.
“Don’t worry about it,” he said again, grabbing the tip of Revali’s wing to stroke gently. “I’m the one dragging you around, remember? That means it’s my job to make this worth your while.” As an afterthought, he added, “And it’s not a silly trinket. It’s a very serious trinket, and Isha is never going to forgive you for implying otherwise.”
Revali snorted.
“How shall I ever live on?” he asked sarcastically, prompting Link to bury his elbow in Revali’s side. Still, Revali resolved to be nothing but complimentary when they returned to pick up the finished product. Ever since meeting Urbosa, he’d suspected that only a fool would make an enemy of a Gerudo lightly. “Why were you asking her about diamonds, anyway? I thought we were here specifically for the topaz.”
Link hesitated for just a second too long before shrugging.
“No reason,” he said casually. Far too casually, and Revali raised a disbelieving eyebrow. “Just a… thought I had. Doesn’t matter.”
“What’s the tradition?” Revali insisted, following as Link headed for the shop’s exit. “It must be something Hylian. I would know if it was Rito.”
“It’s…” Link sighed, and though the veil he wore hid most of his ears, the part Revali could see had turned a sudden, burning red. “I’ve heard that Hylians who are… in love… might sometimes give each other diamond jewelry as a symbol of that. I don’t know, really. It’s just something that I’ve heard.”
Revali’s brow furrowed, and he shot out a wing to catch Link before he could duck away.
“So you wanted to… give me a feather?” he asked, catching onto the closest comparison he could come up with. “That isn’t embarrassing, Link. You do know that the two of us are already…” His eyes flicked back towards where Isha stood, and his beak clicked wryly. “Girlfriends.”
Link’s veil fluttered as he huffed out a laugh.
“I mean, that wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. Isha’s jewelry really is useful, you know, and the topaz will come in handy even outside of the desert, but…” He hesitated then, his hand sneaking up to tug at his earring—or, no. No, he was toying with the feathered braid behind it, tucked discreetly beneath his veil. “It did occur to me that… well, I don’t have feathers to give you, do I? People see a piece of you whenever they look at me. I guess it would be… nice? If they saw something from me when they looked at you.”
It was touchingly sweet and utterly corny, and Revali dipped his beak to brush against Link’s face, suppressing a smirk.
“Let me get this straight,” he said with low delight. “You essentially planned on tying a feather into my hair without telling me?”
“Oh, stop it,” Link laughed, slapping him away half-heartedly. “It’s just a gift, okay? You don’t even have to wear it if you don’t like it… though I think Isha’s right.” Although the veil hid Link’s grin, Revali could see it in his eyes. “Topaz will look good on you.”
“Of course it will,” Revali agreed haughtily, privately resolving to wear the thing daily whether he liked it or not. He’d always imagined that if Link had feathers, they’d be a sort of golden yellow… much like topaz, in fact. “Now, are you ready to drag me around some more? I’ll warn you up front that you’ll have to try extra hard to make this place worth my while.”
Link ran his eyes over Revali’s no doubt sweatily bedraggled appearance and grinned, flicking one of Revali’s looped braids.
“Drinks, maybe?” he suggested as Revali frowned, swatting him away. “I hear good things about the Noble Pursuit. They might even let me try one this time, though if they don’t, at least they keep ice at the bar.”
Anything with ice sounded like a spectacular notion, but before they could leave, Isha stopped them.
“Oh, Link!” she called, looking up from her workbench. “Could you come here for just a moment? I have a few questions to ask before I get started.”
Glancing up at Revali, Link shrugged apologetically.
“Sorry, Vali. Drinks in a minute,” he promised with a wink before swaying towards the back of the store to talk quietly with Isha, leaning over her desk as she sketched out a few quick designs. Really, he was a little too good in that outfit sometimes.
Another customer walked into the store as he waited—a Hylian woman with a pinched, unpleasant face who looked around with greedy interest. Though he thought he wouldn’t have noticed such a thing normally, today his eyes were quick to pick out the diamond ring prominent on her finger, and he felt a flash of interest. Something about that Hylian custom had sounded vaguely familiar once Link explained it, though he still didn’t understand why the idea of it had made Link blush like that. It sounded pretty straightforward to him, and Link had been far from reluctant to express his affection for Revali in other ways.
Curious to see what had caught his eye, the woman leaned over the pedestal with Revali, and her nose wrinkled up.
“Topaz,” she muttered. “Not a fan, really. Yellow washes me out.” Catching sight of the diamond circlet on a neighboring pedestal, her entire face brightened. “Now that’s what I’m talking about.”
“Are you shopping for someone?” Revali asked, his curiosity overcoming his dislike of idle conversation. Maybe he should get something like that for Link… eventually, once he’d saved up some money and convinced Isha to stop staring daggers at him. It wouldn’t hurt to embrace a few Hylian traditions when Link had so readily adopted everything Rito, and Link did seem to like jewelry.
The woman laughed.
“Yeah, myself,” she said dryly. “My husband owes this to me, honestly. I was this close to divorcing him after that terrible honeymoon we went on. I might have done it if he hadn’t given me armfuls of baked apples as an apology. I’ve never been so bored and cold in my life… oh, but you’re from Rito Village, right?” she asked, looking Revali over. “You should know exactly what I’m talking about then.”
Revali stiffened in angry realization.
“I can’t say that I do,” he bit out, resolving to never attempt small talk with a stranger again. “Didn’t he already give you that? That should more than make up for whatever emotional distress such a terrible trip must have caused.”
He flicked a feather towards the ring on her finger, and the woman blinked in surprise.
“Well, of course he gave me this,” she said, holding her hand up to display the ring more clearly. “It’s a wedding ring. He’s my husband. We’re married.”
Abruptly, Revali realized why the tradition had sounded familiar.
“Done!” Link said, reappearing beside Revali to hold his wing. Eyeing the woman sideways, Link frowned in recognition but didn’t address her. “Are you ready to go?”
Revali didn’t respond, his mind still caught on the words ‘married’ and ‘husband’ and Link’s bright red blush. Ohhhhh. Oh.
Oh.
Hey so I wanna start writing botw fanfiction of my own, and I was curious if you had any tips for writing for this fandom?
I don’t know what gave you the impression that I am qualified to give advice, but I will try!
If you have the game, I find it helpful to actually go to the places in Hyrule that you’re writing about, so you can get a sense of what everything looks and sounds like, and even gather context clues of what it smells and feels like. Plus, to make sure the tone of my whole fic is consistent, I usually put up music from the BOTW OST or whatever music fits. Then I couple it with the website A Soft Murmur for any other world building sounds, like fire, wind, rain, birds, or whatever
You can use the website Guide of the Wild to find any other details whether on the map or compendium if you don’t have the game. And just searching up images or gameplay works too
Take advantage of the great world of botw to pace your dialogue! My biggest struggle (and pet peeve that I can fall into myself) is dialogue pacing. Sometimes it’s appropriate to write blocks of text for context or exposition purposes, but for regular banter I always like to put a few sentences in between to flesh out the actions and scenery. This person says that, as the wind blows their hair into their face. That person responds, while running their fingers on the morning dew caught on the blades of grass. Stuff like that
Sometimes I’m tired of switching between the character’s name and “he/she/they” so to spice it up, I use “The Zora” or “The Hylian” (etc. etc.) as an alternative. Although, this only works if you’re working with two different races, and it ultimately depends on how your fic flows
Do the characters that you’re most familiar with or you feel you understand the most. Don’t feel obligated to shove Zelda in just because they hang out with Link, if you don’t know how you’ll use her. Unsure of how to write for Sidon? Then don’t! I promise you that a fic is 102% better when you write two characters really well, rather than shoving in a few popular ones for the heck of it. It’s you world, do what you want.
More under the cut:
Then again, if there’s no way around it and you need to write for a character and you don’t know, first I’d rewatch all cutscenes with them on youtube. If that doesn’t give you ideas, try the Creating a Champion book (There is a free pdf online, and it’s also great for references and research/world building in general) and if you can’t get anything from that, just search up headcanons and fics about that character from other good works. Luckly, most of Nintendo characters are crafted around a simplistic trait, and are made more complex off of that starting point. Sidon is kind supportive shark prince, Revali is an asshole with a heart of gold, etc, etc, so just build off of whatever character traits you have.
And again, you’re the one writing the fic, so honestly you could write them however you want. Write for yourself first, rather than writing to appeal to canon
Dialogue has so much room for characterization and take advantage of it, especially for Nintendo characters because again, they’re usually written around a central character trait. Revali uses long, complex words to show off, Mipha is typically more soft spoken and polite. So did your character “say” something? Or did they “enunciate their words,” or maybe they “whispered tentatively while avoiding their gaze.” Did they say “That’s great,” or did they say “Extraordinary! Fantastic! Truly this is a marvelous event!” Or maybe they said “Who would have thought? I certainly didn’t expect something so monumental coming from you.”
I don’t even have to say the characters but you know instinctively what kind of characters were speaking for those last two, just from the connotation and diction alone. Use that! Use your word choice to convey character!!
Now this might just be the screenwriter in me speaking, but I usually frame my scenes using the upside-down triangle method. LFTS explains it really well in this video, and you should just follow them in general. (Also the youtube channel hello future me has some fantastic videos on writing so follow them too!)
Anyhow, the upside-down triangle or funnel method is basically the principal that the first line of a scene establishes the broad premise that the scene moves around, and the last line of the scene establishes the point and purpose. (Now this doesn’t really work that well for one-shots on cute fluff or whatever, and it’s more of your multi-scene things, but there are a few things you can still apply!)
It doesn’t have to be your literal first line or last line, but essentially it breaks down into a question and an answer. The first part of a scene should establish a question, and the stakes. Why are your character’s here? What do they hope to gain? What is preventing them from such? What is there to lose? Then the scene ends with the funneling point, purpose, or answer. At the end of the scene, they realize their feelings despite the obstacles, or they decide they have to go rescue someone, or maybe nothing about their attitude changes at all, despite of something.
See using this method I’m able to focus on the purpose of a scene, I can frame my dialogue and banter to establish characterization and motives easily. I can make sure that every detail and action serves to further the scene’s ultimate goal. I can pace everything to my liking, to make things more dramatic, tense, or comforting, and I can cut out anything that isn’t needed
When you follow this, it makes the payoff, the resolution, or the tragedy all the more satisfying. This kiss is all the better when it’s framed as the perfect funnel point after a scene centered around the premise of their pining, or banter. The angst hurts all the more when your entire scene is focused on building tension and growing insults that dance around the question of “why?” Scenes should either move towards, or away from a certain goal or point. If nothing changes, if it affects nothing, and it doesn’t add to world or character building, scrap it.
Also write your scenes out of order if you must! You have all those great ideas for dialogue and cute fluff or whatever, but you’re not at that point yet? Write it down!! You will forget, and you will regret it. Write the entire ending if you must, even if you haven’t finished the first scene. In fact, you should actually do that because again, the funnel/upside-down triangle method means that the ending is a very important part. So yeah, when you get that idea just write it in the margins, don’t stop the flow of your brain!
I act out my scenes. It’s stupid but it works for me. I say the words outloud as I talk down to the dishwasher. This way I can also get a sense of the body language, whether it be for Revali, speaking to someone with his wings tucked behind his back, or Sidon who always expresses his gratitude with grandeur arm motions!
And I keep using Revali and Sidon as examples because foils!!! Botw characters are so perfect for foils oh my gosh. Foil your characters, please. If you’re using a side character it’s so great if they are also a foil. I already mention Revali and Sidon being opposites, but similar things can be done with Yunobo and Link, or Zelda and Mipha. Foils don’t mean that an entire character is the opposite of another, just a certain trait. Teba and Revali are similar in their attitudes, but still work as foils when talking about Revali’s flamboyancy to Teba’s stoic and grim demeanor.
Final point, if you didn’t enjoy writing it, if you wrote to please someone other than yourself, you did it wrong.
Hello, I'd like to tell you that there are so many people on your side and that there are channels dedicated to exposing YandereDev. It's a shame that some good creators are still on his side, like Midori's VA is behind this project called Interlunium, and it's a shame because there is one song called Greedy that I actually really like, but she's an active volunteer for YanDev so that's just awkward for me. But eventually YanDev will die off and we'll all piss on his grave
This still gets to me too sometimes - recently I was watching my s/o play BOTW and I looked up Revali’s voice actor because I was curious what else he’d been in, and surprise surprise, he voiced something for YanSim. It’s weird & gross to see ties like that out of nowhere...but it is what it is. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and in most cases they’re either just ignorant or misinformed, and when they learn what’s really going on they do distance themselves. But not always and that’s just a sad fact of life I guess.
As far as the support goes, I cannot understate how overwhelmed I am. Just doing a quick look-around on youtube, I saw SO many videos - some with just a dozen or so views, some with tens of thousands - trying to bring light to my story and the shit YanDev has done in general. It’s just absolutely, incredibly amazing.
Zelink Week prompt #5/10
Link sat on the wooden fence rather comfortably, the cold air whipping his air to and fro as he sat, tapping at the Sheikah Slate.
Of all the places to catch up on his adventure logs, Rito Village was by far his favorite.
The ever-changing whistle of the wind appeased his ears greatly, the frigid breeze concerning him little with the Rito feathers in his clothing keeping him snug.
Not to mention, of course, the breathtaking view of the mountains when he occasionally looked up from the slate, the fresh mountain air, how the peaks to the north seemed to glow with a unique and different iridescence with every sunrise, every sunshine, every starry night sky.
If he were lucky, he could spot in the distance glowing northern lights, a sight he had never captured with the camera feature of the slate because it was a sight to behold all on its’ own. Seeing it in person was something Link would never want to shortchange.
Of course he had his home in Hateno, but there was something so serenely peaceful about the calm of Rito Village. It offered his mind a time for reflection and recollection, to write entries in the compendium and in his adventure log without worry of a Lizalfos archer or a camp of Bokoblins around the corner.
It eased him greatly as he sat there, on a wooden fence that faced the mountain range. If he were a small child, a mother would certainly have rushed forward and insisted that he get down from there immediately. A bit of a tip forward and Link would need more than Revali’s Gale to save him from the depths below Rito Village.
But Link liked it, just a little bit of danger, a little bit of risk made him feel more free.
He remembered well a memory where he was warned of his recklessness, which he took to heart.
But, he still couldn’t help himself. After all, he was fueled by an adventurous spirit as well as a heroic one, and with the great wild land of Hyrule as his training ground, he fulfilled it quite well.
After a few final taps at the slate, Link looked up at the mountains with a thankful smile, thinking with a warm heart of the words he just wrote.
The snow in the distance had an orange glow, the sun starting to set and the hour of twilight setting dusk upon Hyrule.
“I want to see her smile again with my own eyes,” he heard a young voice say beside him, his eyes widening. He felt himself flush warm with embarrassment as he looked over quickly to see the Rito youth Molli.
He hadn’t even heard her land next to him, let alone notice her looking over his shoulder.
Link quickly put away the Sheikah Slate, obviously trying to hide something.
How long had she been standing there?
“Who are you writing about, Mr. Hero?” Molli asked rather innocently.
“N-No one…” Link replied as he swung his legs around to hop off the ledge, his feet landing on the small bridge that connected the small portions of Rito Village together.
“Sounds like someone pretty special to me,” Molli continued nonetheless as Link faced her, looking down into her wide, curious eyes, “Is she pretty? You should bring her by sometime…let us see if she’s good enough for you.”
Link gave a slight chuckle of disbelief with rolled eyes at those words.
If anything, Link didn’t think he was good enough for her.
“Is there a reason you are prying into other people’s businesses?” Link asked, wanting very much to get away from this line of conversation.
“Father heard you were visiting, so he sent me to come fetch you,” Molli replied, “says he has something to share with you.”
Link’s eyebrows furrowed slightly with confusion.
He’d done all the shrines linked to Kass’ late teachers’ songs. Was there another shrine around here he missed?
Link considered the possibility as he approached the Rito bard with intrigue.
It was quite an oddity that Link noticed, for Kass not to be playing on his accordion, but to simply stare out in silence.
He really was waiting for him this time.
But why?
“Ah, we meet again!” Kass said excitedly when he spotted Link out of the corner of his eye, turning to face him.
“You wanted share something with me?” Link prompted when he stopped in front of him.
“Yes, I do,” Kass replied, “I’m taking a moment’s rest from my tireless search for the ancient songs to perform in my hometown. So much of my late teacher comes to me when I play here and as it happens, there is a song he wrote that you have yet to hear, that, well…it only feels right for you to hear.”
“Oh…o-okay…?” Link made out, still suspicious of the whole ordeal.
“I wish to speak with you, so this will take some time, is that all right?”
“That’s…fine…” said Link, not a clue why the Rito was acting so oddly serious.
“Thank you ever so much,” Kass started, seemingly quite pleased with Links’ interest, “I wanted to talk to you about my late teacher. My teacher was of the Sheikah tribe. He was the court poet for the Hyrulean royal family. At the time, there was a beautiful princess in the royal family, quite close to my teacher in age, apparently.”
Link gave a small smile at the thought of her, his eyes lighting up before Kass continued,
“Though he must have known it was doomed to be unrequited, my teacher fell in love with her…”
Links’ eyes quickly blinked away the joy in his expression at Kass’ next words. He didn’t remember much about a court poet. Perhaps, Link thought, there was a reason why as his gaze went downward.
“But the princess herself only had eyes for her knight attendant.”
Link looked up quickly at Kass, his bright, blue eyes wide with surprise. His lips parted as a sharp exhale of disbelief escaped from his lungs, the words registering further into his mind. His eyes seemed to dart from one focus to the other as he searched nothing in particular, obviously processing something quite new. Kass knew well that he must have just taken Link a great distance away from Rito Village.
“My teacher was consumed with jealousy,” Kass continued, “he fumed that the knight was neither nobility nor royalty himself.”
Link didn’t know what to do with himself, with how vulnerable he felt. He felt his temperature rising, his heartbeat quickening, his face surely reddening.
If Kass didn’t know who he was referring to as ‘her knight attendant’, he surely did now.
“And then the Calamity struck,” Kass said, pulling a deep breath and sad eyes from Link,
“My teacher believed a hero would appear to beat back the Calamity,” Kass continued as he turned to face outward, “he poured that belief into a song. And that song is what I need you to hear.”
Link turned the same direction as Kass started to push and pull at his accordion, looking out at the mountain range as he registered everything.
“An ancient hero, a Calamity appears,
Now resurrected after 10,000 years,
Her appointed knight gives his life,
Shields her figure, and pays the price,
The princess’ love for her fallen knight awakens her power,
And within the castle the Calamity is forced to cower,
But the knight survives!
In the shrine of resurrection he sleeps,
Until from his healing dream he leaps!
For fierce and deadly trials await,
To regain his strength, fulfill his fate
To become a hero once again!
To wrest the princess from evil’s den,
The hero, the princess, hand-in-hand,
Must bring the light back to this land.”
Link was silenced, utterly silenced, and, for a very simple reason, kept his gaze on the snowy mountain range.
Kass looked at the back of Links’ head as he continued, the boy not moving a muscle to signify that the song was over.
“My teacher fled the Calamity and returned to his hometown of Kakariko Village. But on his way, he witnessed the princess’ knight sacrifice himself to protect the princess. The elder of Kakariko village, Impa, explained these circumstances to him, and his mind was made up. He would seek the songs of the hero who sealed the Calamity away in an age past, so they could be passed on to the knight once he returned. All so that the princess might be saved…those were my teacher’s last words, passed on now through me…”
“So…appointed knight,” he prompted, “will you accept this song from my departed teacher?”
“Y-yes,” Link replied, his voice weaker than Kass had ever heard it.
“Thank you so much! I knew you would, I was sure of it,” Kass continued nonetheless, “my teacher would often speak of the princess’ beauty. I would love to meet her and craft a song worthy of her. Thank you for spending this time with me.”
Link didn’t reply at all.
It wasn’t that he was rude. In any other circumstance, because he had done so many times in the past, he surely would have piped a calm and collected ‘you’re welcome’ back at Kass. But he was neither calm or collected, barely hearing anything past what his mind was now endlessly consumed by.
“I…uhh…I have to go,” Link said quickly with a fleeting glance to Kass, before Link quickly departed in a hurry.
Kass’ beak parted in surprise when he realized that upon Links’ cheeks he saw the drops of tears.
Link was crying.
——————————————————————————————————
Impa’s eyes widened with a jolt of shock when Link burst through the doors, the haste he exuded making Paya stand up in surprise.
“L-Link?” Paya stammered.
Yet any other words from her were stopped completely by Impa’s raised hand, the old Sheikah narrowing her eyes at the remains of tears under Link’s blue eyes, at his panting breaths, at his distant and ever-searching gaze.
“Link?” Impa ventured cautiously as she brought her hand down to her knee, slightly leaning forward.
“Is it true?” Link asked, his focus finding a spot on the floor, almost scared to look Impa in the eyes, to hear the answer to the question in his mind.
“Is what true?” Impa asked with a maintained caution.
For Link of all people to be in this sort of state…
“Was she in love with me?”
Impa leaned back, giving Link a skeptical look.
Paya, of course, was completely frozen.
Link looked up when he heard the rustle of fabric, surprised to see that Impa was standing up.
“I’m going for a walk, Paya,” Impa said as she headed to the door, both Link and Paya watching her intently, “don’t worry, it will only be a small stroll. I don’t have the energy for much else these days.”
Impa stopped just before the door and sighed before turning back around.
“For goddesses sake, Link,” Impa said, “do you think I’m doing this to talk to myself?”
“R-right…sorry…” Link said as he walked forward, opening the door for the old woman before they slowly descended down the steps.
Impa looked straight ahead of her as Link matched her speed, or rather her lack of speed, looking down at the woman and waiting for her words.
“I have a question for you, Link.”
“Okay.”
“When I first met you after your time in the Shrine of Resurrection, you were all eagerness to save Hyrule.  You knew nothing of your past, and it was still the truth. Why was that?”
“I guess seeing all the devastation it had caused…it only felt right to do something about it.”
“And is there some reward you expect? Any reward you feel like you are owed for completing such a task?”
“Of course not,” Link replied, as if the notion were preposterous, “I want to see Hyrule safe and see Zelda happy and free. Just that is enough of any reward. Does she not deserve that?”
“Oh, she does.”
“No amount of rupees amounts to that,” Link continued, “just to see her smile once more is all I need, no matter what happens afterwards. I want her to live her own life, even if that means it’s separate from mine.”
Link heard Impa sigh with a slight shake of her head.
“Goddesses,” she muttered under her breath, “both of you.”
“What?” Link asked
“Nevermind,” Impa said with a smirk.
They were coming upon on the exit of Kakariko Village, the castle in the distance coming into view.
Impa stopped on the hill, Link following suit as they looked out at Hyrules’ beauty.
“Just a couple miles away,” Impa said, “and it’s taken you months to reach it.”
“Ever since the beginning it was obvious I had failed her,” Link said to his defense, “I didn’t want to do it again.”
Impa nodded.
“Zelda was the same, so I shouldn’t be surprised. All that time you spent together, within arms reach, and it took her months to realize the truth.”
“The…the truth?” Link retorted.
“She worried so much about harnessing that sealing power that she couldn’t see what was right in front of her.”
Link watched as Impa knelt down and gently plucked a Silent Princess from the ground, running her finger along its’ petals.
Impa offered the flower to Link and said once he took it,
“Bring her home Link, for her sake and for yours. You no longer need worry about failing her. You’ve proven yourself many times over.”
Impa headed back to the village, leaving Link on the hill.
“Wait!” he yelled after her, “You didn’t answer my question!”
“Ask her yourself,” Impa replied, gesturing her head to the castle before turning back to Kakariko Village.
“Besides,” she said quieter, out of Link’s earshot, “I can tell that you already know the answer.”
Pegasus Boots
(Universe by @linkeduniverse)
Warning: Cursing, Swearing
Summary: He’s back in his own Hyrule. Finally. Sadly, Wild's curiosity and his own damned pair of Pegasus Boots are going to ruin Legend’s moment of reunion.
_____
After they had been stuck in Wild’s Hyrule for about three months, they definitely had enough of his stupid Guardians and abnormally big Hinoxes around every corner. Don't even mention a fucking Lynel or Twilight will lose his mind and throw his sword at Wild.
It's easy to imagine then, the collective sigh of relief that went through the group when they saw houses and barns that were still intact and monsters that look like they’re a breeze to kill for once. Wind even shed a few tears.
“Finally!”, Legend exclaims and pumps his fist into the air, gaining everyone's attention. They've never seen him be this excited about a dimension change.
“Listen up, fuckers”, he says with a grin on his face, immediately shushing Time when he sees that the old man is about to scold him for swearing. Now just isn't the time for that shit. He still does tone it down a bit, though. Because deep, deep down he knows that he shouldn’t mess with Time.
“Listen up”, Legend repeats. His smile is starting to unnerve Wind. “Now that we're finally away from Wild's godforsaken apocalyptic wasteland of a Hyrule.” Wild glares at him. “I'm proud to say that we've arrived in my Hyrule.”
Legend takes a few steps back and opens his arms wide, gesturing for them to take it all in. All this peaceful glory that is his Hyrule. Then he unsheathes his sword in one fluid motions and drives it into the chest of a knight minion sneaking up behind him. Yeah, totally peaceful.
“That's… uh, great, Legend”, Hyrule says, eyeing a group of blue knights, that's making a move towards them. “It's nice that we get to see your Hyrule for a change.”
“I know!” He takes out his ice rod, freezes the group into a big clump of ice and then shatters them with his arrows. “Technically, this is just one of my Hyrul- I mean, you're gonna love it here. We can finally travel peacefully. My Hyrule isn't all that big either, so we should be able to see most of it.” At the word “peaceful” all the Links shoot each other a doubting look.
Legend takes his bag off his shoulder and starts to rummage through it. He pulls out a weathered piece of paper that has multiple small holes in it.
“Look, we're in Kakariko Village and in eastern direction is my house, let's go there first and then plan what to do next.” He unfolds the map and shows them where they currently are. Eight or so red pins litter the paper in seemingly random places.
Judging from the appearance of the map and the malicious knight lurking behind every tree and corner, Legend must have been in the middle of his quest when he was ripped from his world.
_____
A very short walk from Kakariko to the east of Kakariko later and they stand in front of a small house on top of an equally small cliff.
“Cute”, Wild says and makes his way to the house when something colourful in his peripheral catches his attention.
“Wild?”, Four asks, as he sees Wild walking off in the wrong direction. But the man in question has already reached his destination and is now standing in front of what looks like a crack in the wall. Black tendrils spill forth in uncontrolled patterns. Blues, reds and yellows fill the spaces between the ink like substance on the wall and they remind Wild of stained glass windows. He carefully reaches out with his hand, but hears footsteps approach before he can make contact.
“Don't touch that.” Legend rolls his eyes. “I don’t know if it can suck you in in your current form, but just don’t fucking touch it.” Of course, he'd walk off because he saw something of interest. It's surprising that Hyrule hasn't done that yet. Those two morons went off on an “adventure” the first five minutes they had arrived in Time's Hyrule, claiming they saw a weird looking plant and wanted to “investigate”.
Legend rubs his forehead and looks up towards his house. Twenty fucking steps. That's all it takes to reach my house from the western side of the hill. Why. He turns back around towards the group and sees that they're all gone. A faint glow from the crack in the wall tells him where they could quite possibly be.
“Damn it.”
______
Legend blinks a few times, getting used to the different lighting and atmosphere of Lorule again. He unsheathes his sword with more vigor than necessary. Since we’re in my Hyrule now, there's no way that this isn’t going to be a great time for me. I'm familiar with all this. I'm gonna have a good time. Hah, jokes on me.
He is about to shout for that moron of a Link called Wild when he hears Twilight's voice around the corner.
“Why were we dragged along with you? Wild, I love you, cub, but sometimes I really can't deal with your bullshit.”
“Could you please stop with the swearing? Wind-”
“is a sailor and probably has a more elaborate swear word catalogue than all of use combined.”
“Also, don't act like you've never said any “bad” words in front of me.”
“Well, yes, bu-”
“Anyway, come on, Twi, you were just as curious as I was when you saw that portal.”
“Yeah, but unlike you, I can control my impulses and make rational decisions-” The rustling of leaves muffle whatever words are next spoken.
“The worst thing that could have happened is that I died and-”
“How is that not a valid reason to not do this?!”
“I mean, Mipha-” More leaves rustling.
“No, I don't want to hear any more of it. Death is not an inconvenience for goddess’ sake! Also, could you please stop probing at that shrub?!”
Legend knocks his sword against his shield a few times, making poor Hyrule and Wild jump in the air. Twilight flinches slightly.
“Good to see you too, you idiots”, he says and takes a few steps towards them. He sees Wild going back into a crouched position, poking at a flower-like shrub. Legend walks over to him and steps onto his stick.
“Wait, Legend, there's-”
The purple flower collapses under his weight and falls into the depths of the hidden cave below it, taking Legend, who loses his footing, with it.
“a hole there.” Wild stands up and throws his now broken stick away. “Do we by any chance have a rope or something with us?”
_____
Legend opens his eyes and sees a pyramid like stone building before him. In random intervals, there are bars that block the path towards the top.
“If you want to get up there and get the treasure, you have to be really fast”, an unknown person ahead of him says. Face obscured by a small triangular cloth.
Legend walks up to him and notices the spherical switch to his right. He touches it lightly and sees the first two bars along the path sink into the ground. He can also make out the next switch at the end. Pegasus boots then and good timing.
Intrigued and distracted by the skill puzzle before him, he forgets the group of panicked Links above him and gets to work. Piece of cake.
______
“Legend!!?”, Wild yells, leaning into the hole. Twilight is the only thing holding him back from tumbling over and into the same depths as Legend.
“He's been in there for a pretty long time and we haven't heard anything of him yet”, Four states, rubbing a strand of his long hair between his fingers. “How deep do you think it goes?”
“I don't know. Point is, we don't have a rope with which we could pull him up with, bu-”
In that moment there is a bright light and then a body that materialises before them.
“Fuck this shit.” Wild narrowly avoids getting hit by a pair of boots.
“Wild, you go the fuck down there. Use Revali’s Gal or whatever and get me that fucking treasure because I've had enough for a lifetime of this pegasus boots bullshit. I'm going home.”
The group of Links watch on with puzzled expressions, as Legend, bare-footed, walks over to the crack, turns into a painting on the wall and disappears through the portal.
“Did I miss something?”
Now what did you have planned for character relationships in this Zelda AU?
So since it’s kinda been mentioned here i’ma go ahead and let ya’ll know that the Nintendo headcanons are gonna branch out into more than just one specific game series at a time. Like eventually I’ll begin bringing them together into one shared universe so.... it might be a little more accurate to call all of this a Super Smash Bros headcanon? NintendoVerse? Basically they all exist simultaneously, but my focus at the moment is on Super Mario and LoZ.
With that gibber jabber out of the way, character relationships! I still wanna do some individual headcanons for a lot of the LoZ characters, like Revali, Sidon, Urbosa, Navi, so on and so forth so a lot of them won’t be talked about here. The ones I will talk about for your question are the ones I’ve done headcanons on already for, so here we go!
----------
-Link and Ganondorf are buds in this timeline. Initially met over a misunderstanding, Link was pretty suspicious of the giant man, but eventually he warmed up to him and two hit it off pretty quickly: it’s almost as if they’ve always known each other. Wonder why that could be. o3o I actually have more thoughts on how their relationship could possibly work but I’m trying to keep things short and simple for this ask. uwu
- Every incarnation of Zelda and Link are basically soulmates in the platonic sense, and this time is no different. The two are best friends, and when Zelda sneaks away from the castle, it’s often to spend time in the little village with Link and his family. She loves it in that little cottage, in that little village: it’s a taste of a life she certain she’d love to have.
-Zelda and Sheik have a sisterly dynamic between them, with Sheik filling the role of protective older sister despite being a couple years younger than her princess. Zelda doesn’t have many friends within the castle walls, but she can always count on her faithful bodyguard for more than just protection. Sheik is a constant source of companionship, one Zelda sometimes desperately needs, and the Sheikah woman is fully content on being there for the princess.
-Linkle and Zelda are good buds, the “hoes before bros” squad. Zelda loves Sheik to pieces but it’s nice to have a gal friend that’s excited about the same things she is, such as gossip. Sheik isn’t much for gossip. Zelda also likes to spar and, unlike her tutors from the castle, Linkle never holds back when the two get in a friendly tussle. I’d also like to imagine that it was Linkle who taught Zelda the art of pulling pranks: it certainly spices things up around the castle.
-Zelda and Ganondorf are... friends? Kinda? They bicker a lot so maybe frienemies is the correct way to describe their relationship. Zelda thinks Ganondorf is brash and insensitive, Ganondorf thinks Zelda is immature and needs to be knocked off her high horse a bit. Link thinks the two of them need to chill out.
-Zelda is extremely curious about Midna whereas Midna is entirely wary of the younger woman. They haven’t met officially yet but when they do, it’ll be one that haunts Zelda for a while. The meeting could be unexpected too, perhaps during one of Zelda’s escapades of sneaking away from the castle when she runs into the Twili (who could be there on business). Not maybe words are exchanged but what I’m picturing is sometime during the encounter, when Midna turns away to leave, Zelda impulsively grabs hold of her arm and asks “I can’t help but find you... familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?” And Midna gives her a smirk that’s just as pained as it is all-knowing, before she grabs the hand keeping her in place, presses a kiss to the knuckles, and says “Not anymore.” before she’s gone, like a shadow.
Might add a few more a little later but for now, I hope this works for ya’ll!
Well the other champions and Zelda know about rito link
The room was deathly silent. No one had ever seen Link react this way. He wrung his hands together nervously as his body wracked with panic. The only thing standing between him and the others, was Revali. Link appreciated the cover Revali provided, allowing himself to shrink in on himself, letting Revali handle the situation.
How had it come to this? That was easy to answer: Link got careless. He began to feel too safe when with Revali, forgetting that he had to keep his secret from the world. Forgetting that the other champions didn't know the truth..
So now here he was, a nervous, cowering wreck before the others. He couldnt hide behind Revali forever, but Hylia be damned if he wasnt going to try. Revali did his best to appear calm and collected in front of them, when deep down all he wanted was to shield Link from the others. To take him out of the room and calm him down. But the others were expecting an explanation, and Revali was going to give them one. "I realize that this might look like an important situation, but I think we can all agree that our time would be best used, I dont know, on stopping the calamity?" He was trying to deflect their attention elsewhere, literally anywhere other than on Link would do. It wasnt going to work.
No one was mad at him, just curious is all. Especially Zelda with her scientific mind. "Revali I know that you mean well, but you don't have to protect him from us.. No one is mad at him.. We just want to know why.." Zelda started with a calming voice, "Besides.. I think this is rather interesting! Magic masks like these havent been heard of for centuries!"
"I think your scientific study should be your last priority at the moment, little bird. Give Link some space." Came Urbosa's voice from the group behind her. That's a Link wanted, space. Time to think, time to calm down, time to prepare himself. But he knew he couldnt leave them in the dark any longer..
"As we all know.. I'm a Rito.. surprise.." Link tried weakly from behind Revali. All eyes were in him now as he took his place beside the Rito warrior. "Link you dont have to do this now.." Revali said softly. The last thing he wanted was for Link to be any more uncomfortable than he already was. "Its alright.. There really isnt any point in keeping it from them anyways.."
"Why didnt you tell anyone, Link?" Zelda asked softly. Link slowly met her gaze with his own. "All my life, I wanted to be a knight.. I wanted to train with the royal guard, I wanted to be a member of the royal guard.. I wanted to fight for Hyrule, but only Hylians could do that.. So I found a merchant who sold these masks, and asked if he had anything that could make me look Hylian... Ever since that day I've been living my life like this.. I never meant for it to go this far! I didnt expect to become the best knight in Hyrule o-or to become your appointed knight!" Zelda found her heart breaking at Link's raw honesty. All his life he spent fighting to get to where he was.. and yet she accused him of having everything handed to him. He didnt get to live the life he wanted freely, he had to pay a price to be the person he wanted. Link watched as the champions all stared at him with pity.. pity he didnt want or need. "It's not a difficult life I've chosen. Of course sometimes it hurts if I'm like this for too long, but I know my limits.. You don't have to look at me like that..."
I'm still the same person I was when you met me..
