This idea of a combined (Test + ODI) list seemed the most compelling to Indies, given it’s cricketing outlook/ideology of considering Test match cricket to essentially be 2 100 over-a—side games clubbed together & carrying forward from one to the other, at end of which one side OUGHT to win. Gonna be a mess as I’m spewing thoughts here.

Okay, first of all. The latest trailer is extremely cool. Ignoring the actor who plays him, Grady is a great character and him doing his Monty Roberts thing with the parasaurolophus was a strong intro. Curious what Claire’s contribution is as she appears to have been sidelined apart from holding her breath as a dino looms above.

Hammond’s voiceover almost made me cry. God, I miss Richard so much.

Now, I’m a sucker for practical effects. But they appear to have outdone themselves with the CGI (feathered dinos?!) The visuals with the Mosasaurus, the rex at the drive-in, the trikes and the helicopter attack were insane.

Baby Blue? Blue’s baby? Teaching to hunt? Yes. Life finds a way and so on. Interested in the science behind that.

There’s definitely something going on with Maisie and Biosyn, whether Blue is involved or not, that’s hard to tell. The fan theories about Maisie being part-dino might not be so far-fetched after all. But I don’t think the dinos are the main villains…

Mum, dad and weird uncle Ian! The band is back together! Seeing Alan and Ellie at the dig site gave me such feels.

I want to know who that other woman is in the helicopter, standing beside Grady etc. it would be oh so cool if it were Kelly Curtis Malcolm, but I don’t know how likely that is.

One thing I am really missing is Lex and Tim. I wonder if Joe and Ariana have cameos, if they are being kept a secret, or if they were never signed up in the first place. But it would be cool to see the Hammond grandkids all grown up and having to deal with what their grandfather set in motion.

Finally: Dilophosaurus. I have a special place in my heart for that pesky lil demon. That display at the end of the trailer was just…yeah. It got to me. (The dilo is special to me because its where I h/c that Lizzy is actually mentioned, though not by name, in the JP novel, one of the first chapters I ever wrote for LD)

As much as I think Lizzy would still be up for helping out if she really had to (and she still loves Alan, Ellie, Ian etc. to bits) Jurassic Park is her story, not Jurassic World. She lost a lot of people the first time around and isn’t in a hurry to do it again (also I am not at all tempted to write a full-length JW fic for her!)

Maybe she is like Yoda and appears to give Owen advice using the Force before dematerializing again. Or, y’anno…drops in via Skype when he’s least expecting her.

I’ll let her enjoy her peace in India sitting drinking chai (yeah, she’s given up the coffee now) while the odd pteranodon flies overhead.

Your header image of the teeth is extremely cool. I think we’re all excited, even those of us that weren’t so much before. This movie feels like more of an homage to the original JP.

The Dodge Demon concept by Al Yasid was one of the same league – literally shouting out to Richard Hammond for some eyeballs. Alright back to what this creation is about.

Alan Evans is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, studio engineer, record producer, whose “retro” style incorporates elements of rock, blues, soul, R&B, funk,jazz,reggae and the psychedelic. In addition to singing lead and backing vocals, Evans often plays all the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and percussion himself on his solo recordings. Alan Joins Matt for a discussion about his musical side, family, living in a small town and keeping things relaxed and musically focused in the studio. 

Alan's full bio follows as well as the show notes.  Early life Alan Evans was born on March 23rd 1974 in Buffalo, NY.  By the time he was 9 months old, Alan was banging on drums in the Evans home.  There were strong musical influences in Alan’s life from the very beginning. To say that the Evans family is musical is to say that the Kennedy family has a proclivity for politics. The record player spun in the Evans household the way the TV blared in many other homes. Alan’s father, Willie, and his older brother, Rod, played DJ and the assembly of vinyl they accrued was broad and vast. Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Beethoven, Richard Wagner, Joe Cocker, Kool & the Gang, Jimmy Hendrix, the Headhunters – these were just some of the sounds emanating out of the Evans living room.

Alan’s musical journey is inextricably intertwined with his brother, Neal. A few years younger, Neal became a prodigious pianist, vibes player, and eventually gravitated towards the Hammond B-3 organ. At the age of 12, Alan started gigging out around Buffalo. Career 1990 - 1996: Moon Boot Lover (The Groove) During his sophomore year of high school, Alan formed The Groove with longtime friend Joshua Levitt and Peter Prince.  Neal Evans would join a year later on keyboards.  Levitt left the band after high school graduation but the Evans brothers and Prince continued gigging around Western New York.  In 1992, Alan Evans graduated from City Honors School and Prince from Buffalo State College.  The two decided to move to New York City looking for bigger and better opportunities.  Soon after arriving in New York City, Evans and Prince renamed the band Moon Boot Lover.  With their loud, funky and charismatic sound It didn’t take Moon Boot Lover long to become a household name in the early 90’s New York City music scene.  In 1993, the band moved north to Woodstock, NY and began touring the country non stop gaining fans along the way.  Neal Evans rejoined the band in 1994 and became a psychedelic organ trio in 1995 with the departure of bassist Jon Hawes.  Alan Evans recorded four albums with Moon Boot Lover before he and his brother left the band in 1996.

1994 - 1998: The Elements While on touring breaks from Moon Boot Lover, Alan Evans along with his brother Neal and lifelong friend Edreys Wajed recorded and performed as the Elements.  A live soul, hip hop group.  The Elements recorded 4 albums, the last of which featured Moon Boot Lover alumni Joshua Levitt as well as Screaming Headless Torsos members David “Fuze” Fiuczynski and Dean Bowman.   1998: Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe (Greyboy Allstars) After taking a year and half break from touring, Evans was contacted by a friend about an opportunity to audition for Lenny Kravitz saxophonist Karl Denson’s band the Greyboy Allstars.  After a brief meeting at New York City’s Wetlands Preserve, Alan found himself on a flight to Austin, TX for a weekend of shows/auditions with Denson.  For the next several months, Evans toured the US with the Allstars as well as, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.  He recorded an EP with the band before leaving at the end of 1998, to reunite with his brother Neal, and ultimately form what is now known as, Soulive.

1999 - Present: Soulive On March 2, 1999, Alan and Neal invited guitarist Eric Krasno to record some tracks with them in their home studio. That jam session became their first EP, Get Down! and the band shortly thereafter hit the road to begin touring. During their first Summer together they recorded their first LP, Turn It Out. The album featured various guest musicians, including John Scofield, Oteil Burbridge, and Sam Kininger. The independently produced album went on to sell 65,000 copies, enabling Soulive to gain recognition in the jazz/funk scene. This recognition resulted in a record deal with Blue Note Records, in 2002. Soulive’s first Blue Note album, Doin’ Something,  featured horn arrangements by Fred Wesley, the trombonist from James Brown’s band. Their second Blue Note record, Next, featured guest vocalists Dave Matthews and Amel Larrieux, and rappers Talib Kweli and Black Thought..

In 2003, Soulive released a self-titled live album, Soulive (Live), and a collection of remixes, Turn It Out Remixed, which featured guests Jurassic 5, DJ Spinna, DJ Krush, J-Live,Wordsworth, and the Beatnuts.

After two years with Blue Note, Soulive changed gears and decided to enter into a new contract with the jazz label Concord Records.

On September 13, 2005, Soulive released its first album with Concord Records, Break Out. On this release the band eschewed extended jams for beat-driven instrumentals and collaborations with Chaka Khan (featured on “Back Again”), Ivan Neville (featured on “Got Soul” and “Take It Easy”), Corey Glover (featured on “Freedom”), Robert Randolph(featured on the Jimi Hendrix cover “Crosstown Traffic” and also on “Interlude II”), and Reggie Watts (featured on “She’s Hooked” and “What Can You Do?”). Late in 2006 the group recorded No Place Like Soul with producer Stewart Lerman at his studio inGreenwich Village, The Shinebox.

As the record industry began to once again change, with it changed the band’s approach, and on April 4th, 2009 Soulive released Up Here, their first album on their own record label, Royal Family Records.   The album marked somewhat of a return to form for the group, as many of the songs are solely instrumentals. For this album, they were joined once again by Ryan Zoidis on Tenor Sax, Sam Kininger on Alto Sax - known also as “The Shady Horns”.

Since the forming of Royal Family Records, Soulive has continued to tour and release albums.  Their newest album produced by Pretty Lights will be released in 2018. 2012 - 2014: Alan Evans Trio Alan Evans recorded three albums with the Alan Evans Trio (AE3) with Danny Mayer (guitar), Beau Sasser (keyboards).  They extensively toured the United States and made one trip to the UK. 2015 - Present: Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe After becoming the newest member of legendary rock band The Rolling Stones, Karl Denson contacted Alan about rejoining his Tiny Universe.  Alan began playing with Denson at the end of March 2015 and started recording a new album in May of 2015. 1990 - Present: Iron Wax Studio Alan is also a highly sought after (recording/mixing) engineer and record producer mostly working out of Iron Wax, an analog / digital hybrid studio in Millers Falls, MA. In addition to his own recording and touring, he has had the opportunity to travel and collaborate with bands and artists worldwide.  His laid back style and vintage approach, makes it easy for him to bring his production aesthetic to a project while maintaining the artist’s character and vision. penny grew up in glasgow, uk. she is youngest of three children to the hammond family.  her life in the beginning was almost nothing but perfect. friendly parents that were well off, wonderful siblings, and a roof over her head.

when penny had turned 15, her life had took an unexpected turn. her parents, vanessa and richard hammond suffer a unsurvivable car crash, leaving their three children alone.

when penny was the only child left without a home,the other two had been over 18, had a life of their own, didn’t want to take penny in. her uncle, steve, decided to give her a home.

after she was living with her uncle, her life took a complete 180. he was an alcoholic, lowlife’d man who did nothing but sit around, leaving penny to take care of him, cook and clean for him. 

that being said, her uncle was a huge dick. if she had been a minute past curfew, punishment always lied ahead for penny. most kids, when their late, their parents tell them off and send them to their room. for penny, she had been beaten, raped, neglected, lied to, and was left unappreciated. 

one day, penny was never to be found in the city of glasgow ever again. after she had turned 23, she decided that after everything, she was going to pack her bags, leave, and never return. and exactly that she did. with a missing person’s report, her whole neighborhood looking for her, penny never looked back.

Universal Studios Hollywood News Roundup! Isla Nu Bar, Jurassic World Gates + Bryce, Chris & BD!

Universal Studios Hollywood is getting closer to unveiling the Jurassic World themed area and Jurassic World The Ride in the coming months, but before that happens, we’ve got some decent updates to the progress. We covered all of the details here in Episode 190, featuring The Jurassic Wire. You can listen to that episode and follow along with the content here. So let’s start with the most recent press release from Universal that focuses on the addition of Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and BD Wong being added to the attraction:

"Universal City, CA, May 23, 2019 – Stars of the JURASSIC WORLD films Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and BD Wong reprise their roles as Owen Grady, Claire Dearing and Dr. Henry Wu, bringing their characters from the silver screen to Universal Studios Hollywood’s much anticipated mega attraction, “Jurassic World—The Ride,” opening this summer. This marks the first time the cast will appear as their iconic characters outside of the JURASSIC WORLD films for a theme park attraction. As part of original content created exclusively for the new ride, Owen, Claire and Dr. Wu will shed light on their interactions with the dinosaurs along with facts and information about the imposing prehistoric creatures that first roamed the earth more than 65 million years ago. This spectacular new ride will feature an original storyline that will take guests on a breathtaking excursion through the theme park as depicted in Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s film, JURASSIC WORLD. It will soar to new heights with the addition of iconic dinosaurs from the movie, including the colossal Indominus rex and the magnificent aquatic Mosasaurus in her natural habitat. We been speculating on the podcast that the trio of Bryce, Chris and BD would show up in the attraction in some way. The most obvious inclusion would be in the pre-show video, a la John Hammond in the old Jurassic Park: The Ride queue video. I’d expect familiar looking Lab settings with information on the dinosaurs you’ll come to see on the tour, potentially provided by Claire Dearing and since the Indominus Rex is included in the ride, I’d expect Dr. Wu to be relaying information about dinosaur hybrids at some point. Owen Grady seems like a good fit for the safety instruction portion of the video. On the latest episode of The Jurassic Wire, I brought up a point about wanting to see an Owen Grady animatronic in the “Owen pose”, holding off a few raptor animatronics. Pipe dream, I know, but time will tell.

A few other tidbits in the press release that have me excited, such as the parallax feature giving a bit more life to the Mosasaurus viewing experience. Everyone is worried about more screens being added to another attraction, but from everything I’ve heard, they are seemingly adding much more than your typical screen based attraction experience. We’ve heard rumors about a new type of glass being used to enhance the glass cracking as the Mosasaurus begins it’s attack, now the parallax; let’s just hope it sells the realism. I’ve personally been perplexed about the indoor experience of the Mosasaurus encounter, so I’m glad to hear there are effects being used to replicate the atmospheric conditions. It’s something I haven’t seen before in a theme park attraction, transitioning indoors, but still showcasing the same weather you experienced outside. That would certainly help to sell the experience.

Interestingly, we see the new promo image Owen and Claire running away from the Indominus Rex enclosure, which depicts an alternate version of what actually happened in the film. They added Claire, changed up the proportions and added a bit of depth to the shot. So will we see them further in the attraction? Maybe this artwork lends some weight to that theory.

There’s also a chance we can see them running away or spelling danger for the ride-goers via screens in the attraction. That a complete assumption based off the new promo image, but it’s always a possibility. I wonder if either Bryce or Chris would take over for the Richard Kiley audio throughout the ride, or who knows, maybe even an audio cameo from Jimmy Fallon.

Next up, we finally have our first looks at the new Jurassic World gates in the land. The old Jurassic Park gates are long gone and the new concrete, sterile vibe of Jurassic World is here.

Universal tried to carry over the ascetic of the old gates instead of re-create the gates we’ve all seen in the actual Jurassic World film. I’ve seen complaints already in regards to the size of the lettering, the lack of depth and the color of the concrete pillars themselves, but I think thing will blend better once completed with fire effects and all. Of course, the lack of wooden doors will always signal an issue in theming, but they are definitely doing the best they can in a confined area. Hollywood doesn’t have the breadth of land that Orlando has for theming. I do like what I’m seeing so far though for Hollywood.

In the below tweet, we can see they’ve finally added the Jurassic World logo onto the ride building. It’s a wonderful sight to see. The massive logo now sits high above for all to see. This is a complete rebranding and they didn’t hesitate on pushing that branding in your face. Not only did they leave Jurassic Park behind, but they left it in the dust.

We finally get a really good look at the opening scene for Jurassic World The Ride featuring a fossil replica of Jurassic World’s iconic Mosasaurus!

This Mosasaurus fossil replica, along with “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” will be the first thing you see before heading into the Mosasaurus scene. It’s a bit odd that the quote below mentions “dinosaurs” but the fossil is a Mosasaurus, notably not a dinosaur. With that aside, that section of the ride looks very interesting and I can’t wait to see how that blends into the Mosasaurus tank scene.

Next up, we get a decent look at the kids play area, nestled away in the corner.

From the image by @Bioreconstruct, you can see that they are adding on new levels to the”Dino Play” zone in the Jurassic World section. The original play area was fairly small, so it will be nice to have a few more additions for the young ones. Jurassic Park/World is something meant for nearly all ages, so I’m excited to see they haven’t forgotten that.

Next up, is a fun addition to the land. Isla Nu-Bar!

I love the name. It's one of those names we’ve all joked about for years. It’s such an on-the-nose name, but I absolutely love the inclusion of it in the section. With that name, I’d fully expect alcohol to be served there, not just your standard concession stand. I’m happy to see they are embracing the fun of the series and intellect of the super fans. Not only is this a rebranding, but they are embracing the idea that this is Isla Nublar and not just Jurassic World in California.

Lastly, we can see some new merchandise has been floating around the parks.

The merch showing up in time to promote the ride has a interesting flare to it. It’s part Jurassic World and part Fallen Kingdom. You can tell they’ve crossed over the two marketing ideas here with the burning look of the Fallen Kingdom merch and renderings of Blue, along with the identity of Jurassic World merch. I’d be interested in picking up the merch either way.

Yes, it’s always going to be disappointing to see Jurassic Park as a thing of the past, but everything they’ve done to embrace Jurassic World looks amazing. Shot at the House of Dancehall in Jamaica, models Abonique Coley, Rayana Campbell, Shacqueal Witter, Kimiko Miller, Maleik Lamont and Hakeem Notice posed in an array of 90s fashions styled and photographed by Savanna Baker and contributing photographer Keanu Gordon. “Being this was the 25th anniversary, the concept was to embrace the aesthetics of the 90s which led to shooting a group of dancers candidly, pulling inspiration from the first years of the Reggae Gold brand,” said creative director for VP Records Stephanie Chin. “Savannah Baker was the ideal photographer to portray the dynamic unfiltered energy of the 1990’s while Director Rogen ‘Ruption’ Walker (RD Studios) was able to capture the rawness of the era,” she concluded. “Having experienced a part of the 90’s made this project more special to me. Being able to capture something from my childhood memory and bringing it to present day was amazing! Bless up VP records,” Ruption stated.

The album’s photo shoot will be used to anchor a limited-edition print and online zine curated by Richard “Treats” Dryden. The piece will include unique features and interviews with reggae artists and cultural influencers across the reggae scene.
