i had recently gotten a new computer, there are so many things i still need to work with and customise to my liking.

so, to cure my boredom, i'm installing ddlc again and replaying it!

my favourite character is natsuki, i absolutely loved how adorable and relatable she just is. she reminded me of one of the kids i babysat.

after installing the win files i extracted them all and started the game up, as usual, i see the 4 dokis on the main screen on startup.

i entered my name of choice and started the game ---

wait, bachira??? FROM BLUE LOCK??

why was he sayori? not gonna lie, his sprites are really cute, but how..??

i re-checked the website i downloaded the game from but it displayed the 4 dokis there and there was nothing wrong..

huh, why am i being scared?

i should be grateful, honestly.

i've been blessed by the gods above!! for once i'm fucking lucky!

no way was i gonna pass up the opportunity to interact with my favourite anime characters especially since they somehow ended up in my favourite childhood game..!

i skipped a few of the dialogues, and abruptly stopped when a certain person came into view.

what an eyesore. i hate sae, of all people, why sae?

sure he was similar to monika, but only in appearance. kaiser or anri could have been able to fulfill this role.

i sighed in annoyance, at least i have rin and the others...

i continuously skipped many dialogues and had finally gotten to the part where sayori, or in this situation bachira, hangs himself..

right, this was a horror game after all. did i really forget about the main plot?

i stared at the screen with an obvious frown. rin and isagi are next..

and the person behind all this was saeshit. ugh, seriously... well, good thing i can just delete his files at any given time.

progressing through the story even further, i got a special poem and cringed at the 'drawing'. it was bachira hanging in a humorous manner.

this was unfortunate.

i clicked on the chat box endlessly, wanting to speedrun to the moments of all my favourite characters deaths..

seeing rin crack his neck and isagi stab himself looking like a crazed maniac broke my heart. good things don't last.. this will probably be the last time i'll ever be able to play this version of the game.

then, here sae was, fuck was he smiling for?

"let me take a quick one of rin's cupcakes, these such are really good for a brother so shitty and nasty." i scoffed and gritted my teeth in anger, sae was clearly the asshole in their brother-ship.

i was met face-to-face with sae, i pursed my lips and stared at my computer screen.

"it's nice to talk to you even if it's by a dialogue box." is this even real?

"i know that you're thinking: is this legitimate? to answer your question, yes it is. i became self aware after everything in that god damn manga and anime called blue lock, i felt sick and tired of not being able to show up in the manga after a long period of time. somehow, i found a way to break the barrier between the fictional animanga world and reality as you call it." that was a mouthful. he was pretty talkative now. my burning hatred for sae cooled down a bit as he spoke more ---

"i found this 'cutesy romance horror' game and it had all the things i needed in order to cross over to the real world. this version of the game only exists on your desktop, {user}. is {user} even your name? are you even a girl?" he shot me a confused expression.

"honestly, i don't care anymore. even i started falling in love with you. i thought i wasn't capable of love, just like the original character monika, i fell in love with you." this sent a shiver down my spine, i sweat-dropped and continued reading his dialogues.

"you read that right, i love you. even if i'm not real, i love you. i won't ever let you leave me. i'll kill you even if you think of it." he coldly stated and i opened my file explorer, ready to delete his character file --- huh.. why couldn't i delete it?

"i'm disappointed, why would you wanna try to delete me? i love you, you should be grateful i love you." but i hated sae, i hate him!

"i've been practicing for a while, i think i can finally break the laws of physics and rules of nature between our worlds." uhm, does he even know what the fuck's he saying?

"i'll see you soon, goodbye {name}. i love you." HOW DID HE GET MY NAME? DID HE HACK INTO MY COMPUTER BECAUSE WHAT THE FUCK..?!?!?!

i was scared shitless, jesus christ, just what did he mean by all that? i force shut down my computer and rolled to my bed covering myself in my blankets. time to go back to sleep after that eventful experience.

The first time Barou walks into your room, he's shocked at the sight of your plushies. Not because he thinks you're weird for collecting them (okay, maybe a little) but because he hates how unorganized they are. Why are some of them all over the floor? Why do they take up an unnecessarily big amount of space on your bed? Before he even says anything, Barou starts tidying up your plushy collection. He's sorting them by franchises and colours and also putting them in places where they look the best. Barou wants you to keep them this neatly because he thinks if they mean so much to you, you should treat your plushies with care like this.

Rin doesn't understand why you have so many plushies. And even less does he understand why you would spend so much money on them. He tries to not say anything judgy, but the look on his face while he observes your room says everything. And the longer Rin stays in your room, the more uncomfortable he gets. He feels watched by the many eyes of your plushies which creeps him out a little. This guy loves horror movies but gets creeped out by cute plushies? Apparently, yes. But you get to have fun teasing him about that. Although, over time he slowly gets used to your plushies. And after a few more weeks, he actually starts liking them.

Aryu absolutely adores every single one of your plushies ever since the first moment he got to see them. He buys a lot of clothes which are actually meant for baby dolls, but dresses your plushies in them instead. Each time he visits you, he's having the time of his life dressing up all the plushies together with you and taking photos of them. For some plushies, he doesn't find any fitting clothing, so Aryu starts sewing some on his own. They may be plushies, but he knows you love them, so they deserve to be stylish. They absolutely need to be stylish.

Seeing your plushies for the first time caught Hiori completely off guard. He didn't expect your room to look like that at all, but he quickly starts loving them. He's not vocal about it, but it's obvious how much he adores every single one of your plushies. His attention constantly drifts off and instead of looking at you, his gaze wanders to the shelf full of plushies right behind you. He hasn't thought about plushies in a very long time, but now he kind of wants to have one for himself. Luckily, before he leaves your place, you put a cute little blue bunny plush into his hands.

Niko doesn't seem to mind your plushies at first. He doesn't think anything of them and mostly ignores the fact that they are even there. But then he spots some plushies of anime characters on your desk. He knows most of the characters, but not all of them. So he obviously gets curious and starts asking questions about which animes they're from. Niko already owns a bunch of anime merch, but for some reason, he hasn't thought about buying plushies of his favourite characters until now when he got the idea because of you. He's already thinking about which ones he wants to get, but he'll probably need your help to decide. Of course your answer will be to buy all of them.

Raichi's first reaction to your plushies should have been predictable. But you're still startled for a moment when he walks over to one of the big plushies and punches it without hesitation. After asking why he did that, Raichi only laughs and says he thinks it's funny. Then he continues doing the same to other plushies, thinking you find it funny as well. Only when he looks back at you he realizes you don't think it's funny at all and you're getting upset instead. Raichi feels embarrassed and quickly apologizes, but he doesn't feel like that's enough, so he goes on and apologizes to every plushie he punched as well.

Tokimitsu treats your plushies extremely gently with a lot of care, almost as if they were real living beings. Every time he touches them he does it very carefully and whenever he pushes one to the side only by a little bit, he apologizes to the plushie. Tokimitsu knows how much every single plushie means to you. That's why he wants to treat them with as much care as he can, because that's how he knows you treat him. And of course, he treats you like that as well. It's always cute to watch whenever he interacts with your plushies and how he talks to them with genuine care.

eh. this shows like if they forgot to put the good in no game no life. its less clever and has less tension. this is the one where they act like girls with like solid D or E cups are completely flat.

not very good! this is the one where hes like 'well what if they had a good reason to attack children?' the plot that feels like the overarching conflict is resolved by episode 6. and none of the stuff thats happening has like any subtlety at all. it used to feel like a shitty knockoff of shin no nakama but now that that part's over it just doesnt feel like anything.

eh. im not a fan of the vibe of this show. its like if a harem anime replaced the girls' character development with him having sex with them. if you want a show about someone who gets a bunch of skills really quickly from eating monsters watch spider isekai or arifureta or bofuri.

this show rules. the op and ed both slap. its really weird. its one of those ones where itd be foolish to say whether its good or not until the final episode, but its been really good so far. the only thing to complain about is that everyone talks really fast all the time.

...Perfecting My Magical Ability! this is the show where they keep putting this little boy in cunty outfits. the animation is stellar and the humour is solid. the magic system is detailed enough to keep me intrigued and the main character is insane (and lia-core) enough to make me love him. a wonderful little treat for emily and easily one of my favourites this season. though if youre uncomfortable with scantily clad girls you will probably not like it.

's aight yknow. the guy's at least a vocal opponent of slavery and discrimination. but beyond that kind of a nothing show. he doesnt use his level 2 super cheat powers very often.

its the remake of popular anime Spice and Wolf. i never saw the original but as youd expect from a show that was good enough to get a remake in the same animation medium, its pretty good. i like holo. shes very a wolf that looks like a girl.

i like tsukimichi. this is season 2 and it's got a bit of season 2 syndrome but not the worst case ive seen. i would say its not as good as season 1 though. but we're about to get into a big fighty bit so maybe it'll get better.

yurucamp season 3! i dont like the new art style, but that happens when new seasons come out years after the original. at least it didnt get as bad a change as masamune-kun's revenge did. the content though continues to be great! im glad nadeshiko's friend went camping with them, her interactions with rin were super cute. my biggest complaint is that sakura nee san isnt in here as much. i miss her.

ughhh. its not very good. i know this is a common trope, but i really dont like the whole 'you are born with a certain level of talent that determines what you'll be good at and how good you will be at it' thing and this takes it to a whole other level. plus the politics are like. idealistic and not well executed? it just bothers me.

yeah i know his earrings are racist. but i love the animation style and i dont think im going to be throwing my support behind the Japanese Empire. block me if you must. anyway this started late so its only a couple episodes in. im sad that yellow boy returned bc i hate him. whats his face has some really excellent scars. thats all i have to say

mushoku tensei continues to be one of the best isekai ever made. in the second cour of season 2, rudy seems to be a lot less . um. prone to sexual misconduct, now that he's married. the episode about his sister norn was kind of a masterpiece. the animation's good as always, and im eager to find out where this current arc leads. it should be great tho!

this one's premise is 'a lanky looking guy beat Sword Art but got stuck in the post-game 500 years after the fact'. theres an elf girl who wears a really cute jacket. eminently watchable and something i'll probably rewatch at some point, but not really anything special as of right now.

ill be honest its hard to recommend this one on account of Everything Is Wrong With It. season 3 has largely traded in the 'people are oppressed bc theyre lazy' politics of season 1 for more classic 'the chinese are evil' politics. i dont really even know why im bothering honestly. its not even isekai.

as they say in the op, 'yes, we are still going'. its a third season of konosuba. megumin continues to be best girl.

astoundingly mid. they spent the first 6 episodes talking at long tables, then proceeded to have a fight stemming from miscommunication that nobody bothers to resolve despite at the very least suspecting it. at least the girl fighting the slime is cute. at least the rampant misogyny has been toned down.

honestly a treat! started kinda slow but has become a fun and heartfelt experience. a reverse isekai about a princess from another world who wants to become a detective, and her loyal retainer who accidentally becomes the new god of a cult and starts a rock band with a sex worker and the cult leader. really lives up to its name.

SOMEHOW the show whose synopsis is "a lonely sorcerer buys an elf as a slave because he fell in love with her at first sight" is NOT the most reprehensible romance of the season. that dishonour of course belongs to unnamed memory. legally speaking shes not a slave anymore, but she just. wears the huge ass fuckin slave collar around? she can take it off on her own apparently but god i wish she would just not put it back on! anyway. slavery aside (and that is a big aside) honestly pretty cute. im intrigued by the magic system.

The Phantomhive Household: Bard/Bardroy

I’ve been holding this off for months now and I think this is the right time to let this out. Thank you @kuro-morale-events for this opportunity.

He has many names in the manga and anime (Baldroy, Bardroy, Baldo, etc.) but there’s only one Bard. It was @plague-of-insomnia who entertained first the idea. Looking back I saw the appeal.

I’ve learned to like him ever since I started reading the manga. Methinks that seasons 1 and 2 did some disservice to the Phantomhive household servants that Bard, Mey-rin, Finnian, and Tanaka were reduced to clowns, a comic relief. Perhaps it could probably be Yana’s initial intention. Who knows? “Season 3: Book of Circus” has given us more glimpse of their skills and talents and most of all, their loyalty, as it should be.

Bard reminds me of my most favourite fictional character in the world, Dr. John H. Watson, a captain in the army and a doctor. Make no mistake about it Bard isn’t a medicine man, but his military experience and his combat skills definitely give off JW vibes, or maybe it is just a projection. He also has blonde hair, blue eyes. Tad bit smaller than S. Like JW, Bard misses the action on the field. An adrenaline junkie. And like JW, he also suffers post traumatic stress disorder, who hides a gun under his pillow.

In the course of time, we are shown how Bard simply becomes the de facto leader of the servants. His presence of mind and strategic way of thinking of deciding what to do in time of battle/crisis make me like him even more.

I feel like the fandom lately begins to give him a chance mainly due to Yana Toboso writing his arc. On the downside, it also makes the others turn away from it because they don’t like where the manga is going. Either way, I am glad to read his back story.

Oof. Alright. This is a tough question for me, because I have several - but since basically none at them are animated yet, I am going to separate them in panels which are just very pretty, that I like for aesthetic reasons and the implied text, and those who instead are emotionally my favourites.

Blue Lock

I love this panel so bad. There is nothing inherently conspicuous about it, but for those who read the manga Rin is one of the two ‘Villainous’ character (and both of which I really don’t like - lol), so I just the implication of it very interesting. Absolutely devastating.

Black Clover

Zenon Zogratis. One of my favourite characters. And his 100% version is just wow. The art. The devil’s heart. The black/blue eyes. Insanely good, and if the movie does get out I will look forward to this.

When I read this in one go, there was this similarity to JJK that I couldn’t understand where was coming from and when I realised it was all too late. The snowball fight is one of my favourite. (There are also some other scenes I love, like Power and Denji friendship in the last bit; Aki Angel scenes, HALLOWEEN!)

Shingeki no Kyoujin

Eren Jaeger is likely my favourite character from all the mangas that I read. I cried so much reading the last arc (especially from chapters 100 to the end), and I was sobbing when it finally came to an end. Would I go through that again? Probably, maybe; but the thing is, this panel is not my favourite in particular because it says a lot - but because there are tons of things which go into it and that express both Eren, the why he did things and the way this world might change - because there are people willing to sacrifice everything for it. Goodbye to the boy who sought freedom, I hope you rest in peace.

Jujutsu Kaisen

This sequence gave me goosebumps the first time I read the manga, and it still does nowadays. This is why Getou Suguru is one of my favourite characters ever (by writing standards, I think he is second only to Eren and Shigaraki and that’s a big if), the way he is written and just the emotions showed here, the break-down; the realisation that the jujutsu marathon is not worth it - the automatisation of the consciousness that keep remind you that you have to sacrifice yourself for others. But who are these others and why is it me? It just hits deep. And fast.

I feel like this one captures his spy side a little more than the others. The lower notes in the main verses give a secretive feel, like he's halfway through a mission and trying trying stay silent. But it's also flirty in a more smooth way than wholesome crushes like the rest. The lead singer has such a gorgeous voice too i'll praise glass animals until the day i die 🥺🥺 God tier song god tier vibe 1000000/10

Ren is a persistent little shit when it comes comes crushes and this song shows it, a song about a guy who's so infatuated he doesn't care if he's hated or laughed at, he just loves hearing their voice. I see this as a bit of a yukishima anthem tbh, I feel like in the early stages of their relationship it would be pretty one sided with Shima trying to win him over and Yukio shutting him down so this matches that pretty well :>

YUKIO MY BELOVED

Yukio was weirdly a lot harder for me to find songs for. For Renzou i have a giant playlist I add to over time, supreme comfort playlist egegegeheh, but Yukio's is a lot shorter for some reason. I guess his vibe is a little difficult to get down but a while scrolling through my main playlist and I think I have a decent few that at least match his character development and plotline.

Stressed Out - Twenty one Pilots

Pretty self explanatory really, mans was forced to grow up and mature way faster than he shouldve had to, having a high stress job by the age of 13 studying for two meister all while studying to be a normal doctor as well. Not much of a surprise he has so many mental issues by the beginning of the story. I dont listen to much TOP but the few songs I know seem to fit Yukio pretty nicely :)

Oh Klahoma - Jack Stauber

"Those aren't meant to bend, no those arent meant to bend"

Another song based on depression, but with a much quieter feel, much lower energy. I feel like this one more links to his tendencies of delf destruction, and how alone he feels as he faces his battle. Like he's singing into the void hoping for something to reply, but nothing will. Man :(

The Fall - Half•Alive

"I'd jump off and into your arms but i cant trust the fall"

I feel like this one highlight his story to Rin in a really realistic way. Yukio has a good heart, he's kind and wants to love his brother and open up to him he wants to get better. But he's so deep in his pit of depression and conflicting feelings over his brother that he can't bring himself to, he sees no way out. God I wanna write an analysis on his character so bAD-

Baby Hotline - Jack Stauber

"Numb, I've been burning with haste and I'm realising now it's a terrible waste"

We just keep getting darker huh, didn't pick very pleasant tunes for this boy did I. A bouncy, happy song about a girl calling a suicide hotline, lovely. But i feel like it describes his mental state pretty well, outside he seems ok. Sure Rin picks up that somethings off, but once Yukio assures him he doesnt really persist above asking him a couple times. But below the facade he's really reaching his breaking point, and I love how this song contrasts those two tones in a scarily natural way. Absolute banger

Fireflies - Gorillaz

"And if you say goodbye too many times, the sentinels will find me and switch me off this time"

One of my absolute favourite Gorillaz songs by far. The melody is so gorgeous, melancholic in the best kind of way. For Yukio I feel like it signifies how trapped he feels as Satan's son, he's hit his lowest point and he doesnt know how to start moving back up. But the song also has a hopeful feel to it, as if even though he feels lost, he will get better. In the recent chapters we see a moment of reconciliation between Yukio and the people around him, with Suguro forgiving him and tye two brothers finally getting a chance to to things out. Before everything went to shit lmaoo. But with that i really hope that after all the fighting is done, Yukio will finally get the chance to see how bad things have gotten, and reach out to get better. And this song shows that for me :D

1. L Lawliet

Death Note was the first anime I have ever watched and I'm actually planning on rewatching it since quite some time passed (about 3-4 years?). I related to L a lot during the anime (especially to the fact that he has a huge sweet tooth) so I was very affected by the scene of his death T^T. And don't get me started on what a genius he was.

2. Matsuoka Rin

To get it started with, I absolutely adore Rin. My phone's theme is with this guy and I absolutely love it. I love how challenging he is, but still kind and caring. His character developmemt from season 1 had me shook to the fullest. Ngl, Free! has a very special place in my heart and made me cry several times through out the whole 3 seasons and the movies. It's just, their friendship is the kind we should all experience, but it gets rarer and rarer to find truly dedicated people. Free! also brought back my love for swimming (I could relate to the characters regarding this as well) so I really hope I get to go to the beach this year as well (considering covid).

3. Sakamaki Shuu

I swear this was the hardest decision in this top. Diabolik Lovers is the only place where I don't have a no. 1, but 3 no. 1's. Shuu, Laito and Subaru are my top favourites and even though I've been in the fandom for nearly 3 months now (wah, so much time passed. About Shuu, I absolutely adore how he's a not so desperate pervert and is so elegant(?) whilst doing it. He knows what he wants and has quite some self control and that's attractive as hell. Not to talk about his voice, that has me w e a k.

4. Jumin Han

I love him. And he's not what the usual me would go for, but I aboslutely adore him. I especially love his character development as well. His 2nd bad ending affected me quite a lot, since I really thought that getting as far as the 9th day meant good ending, but oh boy I was wrong. I was so sad thta I played the Valentine's Day dlc afterwards to cure my broken heart XD. Nonetheless, the good ending was a very nice one, this man is incredible and didn't fail to amaze me regarding the way he announced his and mc's relationship ♡.♡ . The way Sarah and Glam Choi were tricked was pure gold XD

5. Ichinose Tokiya

I'll start by saying that I didn't watch Utapri yet so I can't say a lot about Tokiya and it may sound bad, but I liked him immediately after seeing him for the first time because I thought he physically resembled Jumin >.< (and their personality, likes and dislikes also match?)

However, I really really can't wait to watch Utapri because it honestly seems amazing and I'm super curious of what will happen. (also, the seiyuus tho; ngl I got so much into Mamo after watching Free! And seeing he's Tokiya's seiyuu as well I was shoooook to the fullest; and the intros T^T , I absolutely adore Orpheus)

6. Dazai Osamu

Oh man, Dazai is something else (I know he's also voiced by Mamo, I suppose there may be a pattern going on in here). I absolutely love his personality a lot and added with his looks, he's d e a d l y to me. I have only seen a season and a half so far, but man, his past self was so cruel and it made me realize why many things took the wrong turn (for instance, maybe the way Akutagawa was after Dazai joined the Armed Detective?). The anime is soo good that I can't get enough of it.

7. Vera Nair (Perfumer)

I don't know how many of the people I follow know about Identity V, but I recommend this game from the bottom of my heart. Getting back to Vera, her back story is really interesting and sad; also, her in game skills proved to be useful. Her looks are very nice, though she kind of lacks skins, unfortunately. I remember when I started playing and started adding up clues for her, man that was quite a journey, but I absolutely adore her as a character and I'm not sure how good of a player I'd be without her perfume.

8. Usui Takumi

This boy right here was probably my first anime crush and I regret nothing. He is absolutely stunning and his teasing is amazing. The way he accepts to keep Misaki's secret is genuinely kind and their relationship is everything. I also like the fact that she's not your average anime girl, since she hates boys and is actually feared by them, thing that contributes to the funny side of the anime.

Indeed I have! I have a photo of me at like four years old on a horse and looking very confused. But also my teammates loved me because I would fall off my horse at least once a day so we would get to eat ice pops every lunch. Ahhh remember the time when we used to be able to eat with our friends... but also like everything smelled like horse shit which wasn’t great when you were trying to eat.

I adore the Bone Witch series by Rin Chupeco, so gooooood. The world building is so creative and it’s built on the concept of witches, obviously. The world is set in an alternate world and the traditions and culture is based on Asian countries (the author is asian). The main character is straihkt but there’s an adorable enemies to lovers background couple and two of the main characters are gay and have crushes on each other. One of those characters is named Likh and he’s like GNC. He’s main storyline is to be the first male Asha because he knows he’ll never be able to survive as a Deathseeker like the other boys and has a love for Asha traditions. Hes not trans but he often dresses as an asha and is often called Lady Likh in later books (he’s a lovable cinnamon roll and we adore him). The family bond is strong and the main character Tea is very realistic. Like you KNOW that you probably shouldn’t be rooting for her but she’s just such a well written character. It goes back and forth from the future to the present and you don’t really know what future Tea’s motivation is until like the end of the first book/second book. She’s a VERY grey character. If you can’t tell, I love this series but then again, I love most movies and books that others perhaps don’t like. It has mostly good reviews though it’s severely underrated.

My Top 9 μ's Girls

Wow I promised this last September huh? Whatever, it’s here now. I’ve had this drafted since around then and the images were my then-favourite cards of the girls on SIFAS’ EN server, and I can’t be bothered updating them since tbh my phone shits itself if I try to take screenshots when playing SIFAS. Anyway, let’s go.

9. Nozomi Toujou

Honestly Nozomi always feels like an unfortunate one to talk about, in that when she’s at her best, she’s honestly among the best in μ's. I’d still end up probably putting her at 6 or something since I’m not really into her design or voice, but you know, when Nozomi’s great, she’s great. It’s just that Nozomi is rarely at her best, and her most memorable moments - that being the groping gimmick - are memorable for all the wrong reasons. Nozomi is the one μ's girl that is consistently unlikeable because of that, and combined with the aforementioned weaker design and voice, her good just isn’t enough to put her above 9th.

8. Eli Ayase

Eli is... fine. I don’t really have much of an opinion on her actually. I like her design, but “like” is all I can really say about it. Her singing voice is incredible. But I don’t really have any other feelings on her. Her arc in season 1 feels a little contrived. She doesn’t really feel like she amounts to much elsewhere. She’s perfectly serviceable and that’s it.

7. Kotori Minami

Kotori has a worse design than Eli tbh and definitely a worse voice, plus her character is almost solely defined by the fact that she’s nice and is Honoka’s friend, but honestly I still sorta weirdly like her enough for her to be above Eli here. Might just be because I find her cuter tbh.

6. Umi Sonoda

Umi’s in a weird position, right. The μ's girls weren’t exactly created with an anime in mind so many of them have pretty simple personalities, and Umi is basically just the strict, serious, and smart one. But honestly for as standard as that trope is, I still like it, and I think Umi being unexpectedly cringe with Love Arrow Shoot and shit makes her feel a little different and endearing. Plus her design is maybe my favourite in μ's and Suzuko Mimori’s voice is extremely hard to beat. 

5. Hanayo Koizumi

Hanayo’s in a similar position to Umi in that she’s sort of just the shy trope, but once again that’s a trope I adore, and Hanayo is an especially adorable execution of such. Her design is adorable, her passion for school idols is very relatable, her foodie tendencies are relatable and not nearly as grating as Hanamaru’s, and I really love her voice too. She just sounds really cute! I do think it’s not necessarily the best singing voice, like it works in Moment Ring as an example, but I think Kodoku na Heaven is proof that Yurika Kubo can go a lot harder and still sound like Hanayo, so I wish that was her default singing voice instead. But yeah, real good girl.

4. Maki Nishikino

Maki actually was my best μ's girl for a good while, but she sorta just fell out of favour as I started liking genki girls more (process of elimination already tells you the top 3 is just all genki girls after all). But Maki’s still really great, she’s probably the cutest and one of the least annoying tsunderes I’ve ever seen, and it feels justified given her upbringing and her family and stuff. Design’s adorable, voice is one of the best in Love Live, one of her school idol diaries made me cry, NicoMaki is the best μ's ship. Maki’s just based.

3. Rin Hoshizora

Rin! Is! Very! Cute! Yeah I mainly like Rin because she’s cuter than any words I can come up with to describe how cute she is. The design to the voice to how she’s animated to her relationship with Hanayo and her general chemistry with most other characters anyway, she’s just 110% cute 120% of the time. Also back on that voice for a second, Rin’s singing is unexpectedly god tier - I think it honestly blew me away that the funny nya girl could go that hard. Rin’s a bundle of joy who I love very much.

2. Nico Yazawa

Everyone knows Nico even if they don’t know Love Live, and everyone loves Nico and they’re a fucking liar if they say otherwise. And that includes me, I love Nico a ton. Funny Nico Nico Nii girl is obviously stupid cute, and the black hair + red eye combo does a lot for me, but she’s also a much better written character than one might expect her to be. Her whole shtick with being the galaxy’s number 1 idol makes a lot of sense when you consider she’s the eldest sister and is constantly babysitting her biggest fans, it’s just real sweet. Nico’s just all around based as fuck. And by process of elimination...

1. Honoka Kousaka

It’s Honkers. Honoka is just, take basically every positive adjective I’ve used throughout this post and apply them tenfold to Honoka. She’s utterly adorable, she can be really pretty, her genki charm is infectious and never overbearing, the fact that she’s like the stupidest Love Live girl by far yet can be such an inspiration is wild, this girl is a force of nature in the best way possible. And Emi Nitta’s voice, oh my god. If you’ve not heard the Honoka solo versions of just random μ's songs then you should because this girl goes above and beyond to be worthy of all those centers she has. I think going into writing this post this time around, I was gonna say something like “if you asked me on a different day, Nico might be number 1 over Honoka”, but as I was writing this ultimately pretty simple section, I still felt like, “No, Honoka is number 1 for sure”. Honoka is amazing.

And yeah, that’s my hotly anticipated μ's list I promised in September and realistically I should have written one of these years ago. But hey, better late than never, right? Best part is that my μ's opinions have remained remarkably consistent for a good while now so this list probably won’t need revised like I already need to do for my Niji list lol. Might need to do a revised Aqours list more though, even if only to match the format. Not gonna do a proper Liella list until they have more content but Chisato > Sumire > Kanon > Keke > Ren.

Thoughts on Fruits Basket 2019 2nd Season Ep4: “I Got Dumped”

I’m still expecting any day now to get news about this getting postponed to later in the year, especially with this episode having some noticeably iffy [but not majorly bad] animation in parts, but for now things still seem to be going steady.

Anyway, I think this might actually be one of my favourite examples of how well the anime keeps managing to tie different chapters and scenes from the manga together in a really cohesive and satisfying manner.

Thoughts under the cut.

First things first, this episode was mostly devoted to adapting chapter 43, with the end bit of chapter 45 added near the end, and then a whole bunch of anime original material to fill the gaps and tie everything together in a surprisingly great way.

I’m honestly kinda happy that they seem to be entirely skipping the haunted house stuff from chapter 48, since that part would just feel too filler-y at this point, and it definitely wouldn’t have fit with the more dramatic, character development focused vibe of this episode.

I just find these things really fascinating to pick apart and examine since I like writing, but I really like how this episode improved some of the pacing issues the manga had around this point. On top of the fact that, in the manga, the whole Ritsu intro arc happened between Haru wrecking the classroom and Yuki visiting him at the Soma estate, we never actually got a proper look at Rin until chapter 48.

Across the board the manga was really episodic and jumped around a lot between characters and plot points up until around the beach arc, and I think this was always one of the more notably weak parts of it. I distinctly remember being kinda confused about everything to do with Rin at first since we only got bits and pieces about her across the span of a whole volume or two until she properly enters the story. So I’m glad that the anime is condensing this a lot, and being way more open about Rin, even though there’s still lots of mysteries surrounding her.

I’m pretty sure that in the manga the flashback to her dumping Haru was basically just a single panel during chapter 43 that didn’t really tell us anything, so I’m glad we got a whole scene showing it happen at the start of this episode.

We also got a lot of anime original material with Yuki to basically fill in the gaps between the events of chapter 43 and him going to visit Haru in chapter 45. I’m pretty sure that all the scenes with him talking to Tohru about it before he heads off there, him dealing with a panic attack as he sneaks into the estate, him running into that one important maid lady, and him walking back out of the estate were completely original, and it really went a long way to elevate that whole section. Him going to the estate is pretty unceremonious in the manga, and I don’t think there’s any real acknowledgement of him having to face his personal traumas to actually choose to go back there for Haru’s sake, so it was really cool to see the anime explore that so deeply.

I think the bit with Tohru telling Shigure about Yuki’s plan to visit Haru, and Shigure being all shady about it, was also original, and I think it was another really neat scene that helps establish just how shady Shigure is.

And on an even more unexpected note, we got some entirely anime-original material with Kyo scattered throughout this episode which basically serves to make up for them skipping over the part where he apologizes to Tohru for hurting her in the true form arc. I really liked how they had Kyo get self-conscious and kinda self-loathing about how he tried to warn Tohru away from Haru, since that’s also something that never really happened in the manga but it makes a lot of sense for him to get hung up on that. I feel like this is also basically the only time we ever actually see Kyo training at Kazuma’s dojo in practice, which is interesting.

I’m kinda curious now to see if they plan on having him apologize to her about the true form arc during the beach arc, since this seems to be setting up for something like that.

On a different note, I also liked the cinematography with the scene where Yuki and Haru were talking in the classroom and they were framed through the partially broken windows. That was really neat.

Anyway, on a more negative note, even though I think this episode goes a long way to improve how Rin gets introduced compared to the manga, I still just can’t help but feel like she still just kinda . . . shows up out of nowhere with not enough build-up. Especially when it comes to her relationship with Haru. It still just bugs me a bit that Haru’s intro episode involves us finding out about his childhood crush on Yuki, which he didn’t exactly seem to be entirely over, and then volumes later we find out that he’s had a girlfriend for who knows how long and suddenly she’s the most important person in his life. It still just feels really jarring to me. It really feels like her whole character was only written out partway into the story, after Haru had already been introduced.

I really like her role in the story overall, and I think she’s basically necessary to make the story work, but I just think her introduction into the story has always been really clunky, and this episode wasn’t really enough to entirely fix that. But that’s a fairly minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.

Aside from that, the next episode title preview makes it pretty clear that we’re at least gonna see chapter 50 get adapted, and probably 53 as well since those are the last two pre-beach arc chapters left to adapt if they plan on skipping most of 48 altogether. I’m not entirely sure how well those chapters will work together in the same episode, but at this point I trust that they know what they’re doing, lol.

As mentioned in my last post, for Barou's birthday (even tough it's still the 26th where I live) here's just me talking about how much and why I love Barou

Warning: I get a little bit corny and a bit personal

I think the first thing to start is obviously my big brother complex. And funfact, Barou was the character that made me realize I have one in the first place. I knew I had a father complex, but it took Barou to make me realize I have a big brother complex as well. I don't remember if I realized that after or before finding out he has two younger sisters but yeah.

I see Barou as a big brother figure to myself, I absolutely love writing big brother!Barou stuff and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

I don't know what made me start liking him so much, but I quickly fell into having Barou as one of my favourite characters and while my taste in my favs has always changed, Barou is the only one who has stayed this high for this long (Ego would be right behind that, I think.)

I don't relate to much of Barou's personality. We're very very different as the type of person we are. But one thing that is just incredibly comforting to me are his urges to perfection and the compulsions that com along. I used to struggle with compulsions A LOT and one of them was having to open the window to let air in. I had a ritual in which I repeated 2 or 3 things (sometimes over and over) and one of those things was opening the window. That one scene where Baroutells Isagi and Nagi to let air into the room? Just a little scene, a little moment, but to me it holds a lot of comfort. I haven't struggled with any compulsions in a while, and I think Barou might have subconsciously helped me to deal with that because of the comfort this part of him gives me.

I know those things don't necessarily have to be interpreted as Barou having compulsions, but I interpret them that way.

Also, his perfectionism. I'm not a perfectionist anymore, but I use to be one to a point where I was upset with myself for "not perfect" grades. Probably a thing Barou helped/helps me with as well but not like as a conscious thing.

Barou is just my go-to comfort character for basically everything. I remember about 2 months ago, it was the day my ex and I would have had our 3 year anniversary if we hadn't broken up last summer. And I don't miss them anymore, but the thoughts and a bit of the pain just returned so,,, I wrote a oneshot of how Barou helps his sibling through a breakup. A few things in that oneshot resembled what happened to me irl but I changed a bunch so it's not accurate to my ex and me.

Whenever I write Barou as a big brother, I write him as the type of brother who's very soft for his younger sibling(s) and extremely protective, but he stays rational and thinks a lot about how his overprotectiveness could harm his sibling(s) so he won't accidentally hurt them. And if he does end up saying or doing something that hurts them, he ha a hard time apologizing but he always manages to do it in his own ways. But you've seen all of that in my big brother!Barou writings.

Barou resembles one of my old comfort characters who can no longer be my comfort character. It's mainly in looks, I genuinely can't think of a thing they have in common about their personality. That also doesn't make Barou a "replacement" for that comfort character I lost, but he certainly filled that hole that was left behind when I lost the other comfort character.

I love Barou's character development and he's one of the most interesting characters to me, even outside of headcanons and the stuff I write about him. In the manga and anime, he's super interesting to see and his dvelopment in second selection,,,, hnngg loves that so much. Alo his rivalry with Isagi is my favourite of all of Isagi rivals (yeah sure, Rin and Kaiser are cool. Bu tthe mutual respect Isagi and Barou have makes it more interesting imo)

All in all, I love Barou and I have a deep personal connection with him. Love him very very much and hhjsnnnnf the thing I'd do to have him be real or to have a friend who's like him. I think about Barou a lot every day and I do a lot of rps with him on c.ai (usually just "rewrites" of the same scenario over and over, things I've already written on here or just things that are way too specific or personal as self-inserts for me to write on this blog)

Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing?

🎤 Yes. For some reason, I can't stand podcasts or anything like that, so music is my go-to option 🥁 I watch a lot of speedruns or gaming vids when I draw! I love having constant commentary to give me background noise. 🎷 Totally! I usually can't do anything in silence, but I find music tends to help me more with my schoolwork while a fun movie or tv show is put on for personal drawings! I have a soft spot for animated pieces while I'm drawing.   🎺 Yes, I listen to music, cartoons, youtube videos and movies 🎸 I do listen to music when I draw!!

What’s your favorite music artist/band? If you could ask your favorite band/music artist one question, what would it be?

🎤 Parov Stelar. I would ask them about the starts of their career. How did they started to work to the public and how scary did they feel about it 🥁 I'm really into Ghost right now! I love their spooky tunes and the melody go HARD! 🎷 I'm not sure I have one! I like all kinds. Fan creators. Vocaloids like Miku and Rin and Len, classic artists like Supertramp and I grew up listening to Nickelback, Def Leopard, and Bon Jovi. I would, however, love to ask every single one what their favourite part of music and performing is! Because to me, music is so special and can affect emotions and events, so I would love to hear what goes through some singer and songwriter heads! 🎺 My favorite band is Mother Mother 🎸 I'm not quite sure exactly who my favorite is, considering I have quite a few favorites, I guess I should say Mili since my favorite song is from them. As for asking them whatever question I want? I guess I'd probably ask them which of their songs are connected into a story? 🎻 I really enjoy the music of Lenka. If I could ask her a question, I would ask if her songs are based on her life experiences.

Do you play an instrument? If not would you like to play one? Which one?

🎤 I don't play anything. But I would love to play the violin...Or realistically, the flute 🥁 Id love to play the keyboard or guitar! I'm not musically inclined so the best I could do is a uke or otomone (they're so cute hehe) 🎷 I play piano! Not very well, but I learnt it a few years ago and I still mess around with it from time-to-time. 🎺 I can just barely play the ukulele and the piano. I'd really love to learn to play the keyboard 🎸 I don't! I guess It'd be fitting for me if I knew how to play a trumpet, so that I suppose.

🎤 I don't expect anything. More than anything, I expect myself to be able to finish it on time! 🥁 I expect to see many great arts from other contributors! Find new artists to follow and new music to listen too! 🎷 A fun time and a lot of beautiful works of art that express how important and magical music can be! 🎺 I'm just really excited to see everyone's pieces! 🎸 I just hope to gain some experience and confidence from it! 🎻 I look forward to a friendly community of artists working together to put together a nice publication.

Me: Listens to a TED talk about how losing sleep is fucking with your body and psyche as I do some late-night cleaning

Also me: stays up another 30 minutes to catch the latest Sarazanmai episode because if not I'd think of nothing else at work the next day

Yeah, I guess this is the point where I can personally say that I Want To Connect And I'm Letting Myself Do it.

- For all my talk about someone jumping from the bridge it took until now to maybe connect that to Kazuki being shown drowning in the OP as Enta and Toi have big portraits flashing. God fucking damn anime OP tropes and Ikuhara's convoluted storytelling argh

- Anyway, Kazuki losing his shoe when Enta is shot is obviously connected to the fucking friendship bracelet that he wears on the foot and I am feeling like such a fucking idiot for taking a week to connect those dots. I'll stop swearing now.

- Everyhing that is Toi and his brother here is so really heartbreaking

- Everything that is Kazuki and Enta/Rin!Cop and Sousuke!Cop is careening along a delighful rollercoster along sincerely emotional and brilliantly funny and THIS is peak Ikuhara

- It might be helped along with the Penguindrum vibes (prime example: Kanba chasing the truck with the Penguin Hat), thanks to the hospital setting

- Let's someone do the comparison between Toi's brother and Kanba.

- Can I just say how 200% happy I am that Enta isn't facing the climax of the story in a coma, but as an acting part of the story?

- Yikes I forgot that Enta's sister was their teacher and how's that for the difference in relationship that Kazuki has to Enta's sister compared to Enta's to Kazuki's brother

- I don't know if I ever mentioned before that Mamoru Miyano is probably my favourite voice actor ever but he sure is and he sure just turned Rin!Cop into my favourite character of this show like THAT because that's some Grade A Tamaki channeling right there

- That said, I'm not following the Otter Cop Plot entirely but there's probably something profound to be said about Sousuke!Cop "needing" the Otter Entity taking the form of Rin!Cop's repressed side, particularly the obsession with "desire".

- Toi's brother might be the closest we've yet come to a real faceted character on this show, and I suppose he died as he lived, by which I mean contradictory. Toi always deserved better, and we're eagerly awaiting the continuation now that Mr. I Killed A Man from the looks of it has three more bodies on his conscience and will probably be hunted by both the police an the yakuza.

- One final Penguindrum parallell: Kazuki befriending Enta mirrors the way Those Spoilery Kids In Penguindrum befriend each other and we all know how that turned out don't we  (no, most of you don't, you bleeding philistines). (see also: The They're Really Brothers Theory)

- So here's a thing I've oddly never seen people comment on yet: That Kazuki is the only person who hasn't been hanging onto a person who has changed for the worse. As has been thoroughly pounded in, both Enta and Rin!Cop want their Special Person to return to their old self; given this episode, it seems overwhelmingly likely that Toi truly wanted his brother to turn away from crime. For all of Kazuki's issues, an obsession with nostalgia was hardly one of them, and I'm wondering how this is going to play into solving everyone else's crisis. Let's someone do the comparison between Toi and Masako.

 - This ending leaves us with a number of questions, and a number of actors SOME OF WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN PROPERLY INTRODUCED, so to summarise for my own sanity: * Kazuki and Enta want the dishes to save Enta's life * Toi previously wanted the dishes to help his brother and with his brother now gone, might well want the dishes for trying to get him back * Rin!Cop is going to do something drastic to get the "old" Sousuke!Cop back, which is probably going to involve the dishes * Keppi and Sara are doing IDK but it doesn't seem to involve the dishes * The Otters are doing IDK but it doesn't seem to involve the dishes * Whoever has the dishes still needs another one get their wish granted

TL;DR SARAZANMAI FINALLY BECAME *GOOD
