my ex-father-in-law had two heart attacks over the weekend and a double bypass last night. none of his kids and none of his grandkids have spoken to him for years. i haven't talked to him in more than a dozen years myself. that last five minutes are burned into my memory forever

still, he was a big part of my life when i was a young man. i learned a lot from him. he accepted me for who i was in a way that made it easier for me to do the same. he got me out of bad trouble that was on its way to worse trouble more than once

anyway, i had such a good weekend with my kids, unaware that any of this was happening. over the years, finn and i have had conversations about how we would feel when he was gone. we had agreed that it was impossible to predict. it's not over yet, but i think we are starting to find out now, and it's worse than either of us expected

MY SYNOPSIS: the story follows the main protagonist chung myung, a member of the mount hua sect who was formerly known as the legendary ‘plum blossom sword saint’, reincarnates into the body of a beggar child a hundred years into the future after dying following the beheading of the demonic cult leader, chun ma, who slaughtered his clan members as well as countless other sects during the war. when he wakes, he discovers that his once proud and respected sect has fallen into ruin during the century following its defeat. chung myung, hiding his identity as a fabled hero from the past, rejoins the mount hua sect under the guise of being nothing but a beggar to help restore the mount hua sect to its former greatness while making friends as well as enemies along the way..

When Cheongmyeong of the Mount Hua Sect awakens a hundred years in the future, his last memories are of a bloody battle against the Leader of the Demonic Cult, the evil Cheonma. The battle almost saw the end of the Ten Great Sects of ancient China, when Cheongmyeong ended the hard-fought struggle by striking down Cheonma. Soon after, he succumbed to his wounds, filled with regret at their pyrrhic victory. All is not lost, however, as he awakens to his second chance at life. while the official synopsis does make it seem like the story is going to be heavy and action focused, the novel itself is more comedic than its led on to be and its action scenes are rlly fun and exhilarating to read..

the main cast are extremely likeable and their relationship w each other is very funny and heartwarming... that being said i feel like if uve come from any of the popular danmei novels and r interested in reading rotmhs (PLEASE BE INTERESTED) i feel like i shuld mention that THERE IS NO ROMANCE IN THIS NOVEL... its not a BL, theres no romantic connotations between any of the main characters, this novel is more focused on found family and the bonds between friends than anything BUT PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LET THE LACK OF ROMANCE DISSUADE YOU..

Felt like drawing Tristan (and his dear, sweet River) again! I took one look at an old picture of him, thought the phrase "Yoga Doggo," and my hand moved on its own =w=

Small design update; the idea of him just constantly winking/deliberately keeping one eye shut felt more and more stupid the more I thought about it, so now his eye's… well, it's gone. As in, "surgically removed" gone. Been gone since his Riolu days, and he's long since adapted to it.

As for why it's gone, it's because of glaucoma; his eye didn't respond to any treatment and was causing him so much pain that removal became necessary.

He isn't bothered by the loss of his eye, instead what does bother him is the wave of discomfort he sometimes senses from strangers when they see his face. He knows they (usually) don't mean any ill will, but...

Well, being an empath isn't all sunshine and rainbows, after all.

I’ve always found his inner pledge to protect her to be deeply romantic and the Sorceress and Knight bond aspect wholly fascinating. It brings to mind chivalry and fairytales in a unique way.

There are so many incredible authors (and artists!) throughout this fandom who’ve expanded upon the mentioned but sparsely explored lore in the game.
