Paradise of the Strong x MSRA x Others: The rebels are very confused and concerned about where these very powerful mechs that they just have keep coming from, since they just appear out of thin air in their hideouts or during a mission. The regime is even more concerned after learning about this, since that means that someone just has these mechs that BREAK reality, but just gives them out like they're candy on Halloween, with complete disregard for consequences. HORUS is just fucking HORUS.

atticus only brings ppl back to either a hotel, if he is away from home, or to his city penthouse. nobody gets to go to the cat mansion back in the wild woods of northern oregon.

it is literally swarming with cats. he has fifteen official kitties, but that doesn't include his cycle of fosters and the miscellaneous strays he cares for.

okay so i finished stranger in paradise (short story by asimov) and.. 😐 ..wish i'd been prepared for the uh. sentiments about autistic ppl with high-support needs. [continued below cut]

but at the same time it's a completely different world so the views aren't necessarily being endorsed, any more than the story is endorsing being creeped out by the existence of people who are full siblings (yes, just the concept of siblings in general is taboo in this world). lots of asimov's depictions of the future include some kind of eugenics without endorsing it, so that's hardly a new topic.

and then it ended... positively? maybe? like the message, however clunky, basically boiled down to "autistic people, when placed in the right environment for their needs, can be happy, so we should provide that for them" (the right environment in randall's case was literally The Planet Mercury absent of any other humans which like. mood 👍)

all in all i'm really not sure how i feel about this one folks! like it's a product of its time for sure. but the ending kind of tipped it on its head for me lmao. i don't know! has anyone else read this one?
