No Major Lorne today, but this photo made @hero-in-waiting write 'rich man's holiday card' and that made me write the thing below. So, if you're looking for Dr. Rodney McKay getting pissy, and a snowstorm, some cookies, and holiday not-cheer, then this might be a story for you. Also, please enjoy the photo.

I hate that when money gets tight and budget cuts need to be done and hours need to be trimmed, the first ones to get fucked over are those who've been there longer.
I know it's because I make more an hour than new hires, but it's 40 fucking cents an hour more.
But you know what I have that the new hires don't? ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE GODDAMN STORE! None of the new hires are trained/maybe are just dumb and don't know where shit is. Customer wants to know where glue is? Guess who the new hires gotta ask? Register ran out of receipt paper? Guess who knows where the spares are and how to change it out. Need to know how to void an item? Override an incorrect price? Where the spare garbage bags are kept? How to turn off the overhead radio? GUESS WHO FUCKING KNOWS ALL THAT SHIT AND MORE!!
But no, it's better to save literal cents during the holiday rush and have nonstop long lines, no backup at the registers, no products on the shelves because there's no one to stock them, overflowing go-backs piles because there's no one to recover, all while overworking the employees that obviously they don't give a fuck about, resulting in furious customers that they CLAIM to care about, yet obviously don't.

The actor Brigit Forsyth, who has died aged 83, made her name as Thelma in the BBC television series Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? One critic described Thelma as so prim that she could turn the lifting of a lace curtain into an art form.
Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais’s creation, which ran from 1973 to 1974, was the sequel to the popular 1960s sitcom The Likely Lads, which starred Rodney Bewes and James Bolam as Bob Ferris and Terry Collier, two single north-east England factory workers who share a flat and the same interests – women, drink and football.
Thelma Chambers was brought in as a girlfriend for the upwardly mobile Bob, now in the white-collar class with a house, car and annual holiday on the Costa Brava, scoffed at by Terry, who clings on to his working-class roots. Thelma and Bob were married halfway through the two series of the show.
“Up until then, I had done a lot of drama on telly,” said Forsyth. “If I wasn’t being murdered, I was murdering somebody or I was a disturbed art teacher. I was playing quite a lot of deranged people, so comedy was a nice change.”
She created laughs again with the sitcom Sharon and Elsie (1984-85), in which she co-starred as the middle-class Elsie Beecroft alongside Janette Beverley as the more down-to-earth Sharon Wilkes, two employees in a greetings card manufacturing company.
But Forsyth’s own favourite television part was Francine Pratt in Playing the Field (1998-2002), the on- and off-pitch women’s football drama created by Kay Mellor. Her character, who hates the game, is married to the Castlefield Blues’ sponsor, played by Ricky Tomlinson, and keeps him happy in return for designer clothes and other luxuries.
“I have never played awful glamour before,” she said. “I had a blond wig, six-inch heels, makeup and my bosom hitched up high.”
Forsyth was born in Malton, North Yorkshire, to Scottish parents, Anne (nee Forsyth), an artist, and Frank Connell, an architect and town planner, and brought up in Edinburgh. She was mesmerised by Stanley Baxter’s performances as a pantomime dame at the city’s King’s theatre and, aged 18, landed her own first lead role, as Sarat Carn, on her way to the gallows, in Charlotte Hastings’s play Bonaventure with the Makars amateur drama group.
But when she left St George’s school, Edinburgh, her parents insisted she learn a skill, so she trained as a secretary. After a couple of jobs, she headed for London and Rada (1958-60), where she won the Emile Littler prize.
She began her professional career back in Edinburgh with the Gateway theatre company (1960-61) before moving on to the Theatre Royal, Lincoln (1961-62) and the Arthur Brough Players in Folkestone (1962). With other actors already named Brigit McConnell and Bridget O’Connell, she changed her professional name to Forsyth on her return to Lincoln in 1962.
At the Edinburgh festival three years later, she played one of the witches in a headline-making production of Macbeth. “That show caused an absolute uproar because they wanted the witches to have the bodies of young girls and the faces of old women, and they wanted us to have our top half naked,” Forsyth recalled. “But the Earl of Harewood, who was running the EIF at the time, said ‘No’. So they put nipple caps on us, which looked absolutely disgusting – and they used to drop off each night. It was absolutely hysterical.”
Later, in the West End, Forsyth played Annie in The Norman Conquests (Globe, now Gielgud, and Apollo theatres, 1974-76) and Dusa in the feminist play Dusa, Fish, Stas and Vi (Mayfair theatre, 1976-77). She put her TV breakthrough down to cutting her hair short. “It proved a tremendously lucky omen,” she said.
That break came with Adam Smith (1972), in which she played the younger daughter of the title character, a Scottish minister (Andrew Keir). The director, Brian Mills, then worked with Forsyth on the psychological thriller Holly (1972), when she took the part of a young art teacher kidnapped by a mentally unstable student. Forsyth and Mills married in 1976.
Television roles kept on coming. She was Veronica, one of the product-promotion team, in The Glamour Girls (1980-82), Harriet in the inter-generational sitcom Tom, Dick and Harriet (1982-83), and Helen Yeldham, a hotelier, in the 1989 series of Boon.
There were also appearances in soap opera: as GP Judith Vincent in The Practice (1985-86); Babs Fanshawe, Ken Barlow’s escort agency date who dies of a heart attack, in a 1998 Coronation Street episode; Delphine LaClair, a sales rep for a French company interested in buying Rodney Blackstock’s vineyards, for two short runs in Emmerdale (2005 and 2006); Cressida, mother of the millionaire Nate Tenbury-Newent, in Hollyoaks in 2013; and three roles in Doctors between 2000 and 2012.
Forsyth also played the miserable Madge, who frustrates her sister Mavis’s attempts at a relationship with Granville, in the sitcom sequel Still Open All Hours (2013-19).
A cellist from the age of nine, Forsyth starred as the real-life virtuoso Beatrice Harrison in a 2004 tour of The Cello and the Nightingale. Also on tour, she was a remarkably believable Queen Elizabeth II in A Question of Attribution (2000) and played Marie in Calendar Girls (2008). “I’m Mrs Frosty-Knickers, the one who doesn’t approve of it all.”
In 2017, she played a terminally ill musician in the stage comedy Killing Time, written by her daughter, Zoe Mills, who acted alongside her. At the time, Forsyth revealed that her maternal grandfather, a GP in Yorkshire, had helped dying patients to end their lives. Declaring herself a supporter of euthanasia, she said: “He bumped off probably loads of people with doses of morphine.”
In 1999, Forsyth separated from her husband, but they remained friends until his death in 2006. She is survived by their children, Ben and Zoe.
🔔 Brigit Forsyth (Brigit Dorothea Connell), actor, born 28 July 1940; died 1 December 2023

Denim Journal - 07/1992 to 08/1993
I went through all of high school with no journal. At the time I didn’t think it was a big deal. I was trying to be all grown and I didn’t need a diary like some overly emotional young kid.
But high school sucked. There was fun stuff for sure, but I was a weirdo, overweight, and had a difficult time socially and emotionally.
I dropped out of high school, and within two weeks of starting my first college classes, I found out I was pregnant. Looking back, I kind of wish I’d spent more time with a childhood diary and acting silly instead of rushing to be an adult.
The next journal I bought was one I had seen at Tattered Cover, a local bookstore in Colorado where I had done holiday work before I discovered my pregnancy. I had wanted to journal when I worked there, but was working to save money for holiday gifts. A close friend and I were book shopping months after I’d stopped working there, and I saw the exact journal and was super excited to buy it.
I still don’t know why I was so excited, I think it might’ve been the denim texture. I loved the way it felt against my fingers when I would scratch against it. But on the whole it was kind of boring in appearance.
Tumblr media
I loved having a journal again. I loved writing down stupid things so I could try to stop blurting out stupid things in conversations.
The first thing I struggled with was the blank pages and thinking what I had to say was stupid. So I started decorating pages in advance so they wouldn’t be blank.
I drew and colored things.
Tumblr media
I collected little pieces of ephemera that amused me.
Tumblr media
On of my favorite pieces of odd ephemera was a fortune cookie fortune that is kind of weird, but became a favorite because I kept getting the same fortune. This weird little “Every man is a volume if you know how to read him” fortune is in a couple more journals because it amused me so much each time I got it.
Tumblr media
I took photographs and spruced up my journal. This is one of my favorites of my son turning one year old and celebrating with his own tiny cake all for himself.
Tumblr media
The other thing I did on a regular basis was read the newspaper as often as I could, and clip things out when I had the time. Anything from silly comic strips…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…to the slightly more political comic strips…
Tumblr media
…to the overtly political strips.
Tumblr media
Up until this point, my political leanings were pretty leftist, but I kind of believed in the system. But throughout this journal I can see myself slowly becoming less and less trusting of the system. In my head I truly believed (and sometimes I still believe today) that enough voices could speak out and make change. But so much happened and I clipped out this Clarence Thomas (fuck that guy) cartoon, and some of my other article clip outs about the Rodney King trial, and other things that made me furious, I can see myself becoming more ad more leftist and my love/hate relationship with civics is very clear through the journal.
Tumblr media
It is still one of my favorites journals. I think because I cannot put my hands on my little Hello Kitty journal it has become my physical representation of my beginning thought process and my progress toward some kind of adult behaviors.

Sparktober Bingo 2021!
Back for a new generation: Sparktober Bingo!
Instead of coming up with an Atlantis-specific list of prompts, I compiled a bunch of 2021 -tober prompt lists into one google doc here. (Links to original prompt lists are on the google doc.) Add in a list of Atlantis episodes and...
Tumblr media
How to play:
Choose a “flavor” from the prompt sets below the cut, then paste it into this fandom bingo card generator.
Adjust your browser size til it looks right and take a screenshot, or use the html script if you’re familiar with using html on tumblr. Tag @sparktober if you want us to reblog it so everyone knows you’re playing!
  Sparktober Bingo Rules:
Complete a row/column, corners, or a blackout of your card by November 1, or not! Update as you go.
All fan-works are allowed: art, edits, fic, meta... bonus points to anyone who picks the “sprinkles” flavor and goes full mid-aughts by filling their bingo cards with 100x100 pixel icons.
You are allowed to pull multiple cards until you get one that inspires you, and you can also go through the prompt list of your choice in advance to pull out squicks or things you absolutely won’t write. I recommend not googling unfamiliar words from your work computer.
Use the prompts liberally! Episode titles can be treated as the episode or as generic prompts (e.g. “Epiphany” can be for an episode-related fic or a prompt for an epiphany of your choice).
  Flavor descriptions:
VANILLA: Gen prompt lists from Fictober, Inktober, Trektober Gen, and Trektober Trek.
CHOCOLATE: Zesty prompt lists from Trektober NSFW, Kinktober, and Whumptober. The multiple-prompts-per-day from Kinktober and Whumptober have been broken into individual prompts.
CANDY CORN: Fall / holiday themed prompts from TUA-tober.
SPRINKLES: Atlantis episode list (in order, in case you only want to copy certain seasons), along with characters and a few Atlantis-specific prompts.
TWIST: All of the above! (You can also manually mix and match different flavors, of course.)
Text blocks to copy into the bingo card generator are below the cut. Enjoy!!

Winter Prompt Challenge ❄️ Day 5: Nighttime snow
For Day 5, we’re off to the Pegasus galaxy with my first attempt at some McShep fluff for @diuretic-dandelions! 😁💙 They’ve just been too cute lately, coming through the end of season 3, so this was really fun 😊 I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
“McKay! Where the— oh. There you are,” Sheppard said. His boots crunched towards Rodney through the freshly-fallen snow, the light from his flashlight joining Rodney’s. “We’re almost at the gate, don’t wander off and get lost now. Make me stay out in this all night to come save your sorry ass.”
Rodney just smirked. “Ah. But you would come save my ass. Anyway, I’m fine,” he said, talking over the beginning of Sheppard’s indignant retort. “I was just… It really is pretty, isn’t it?” he asked, gesturing at the snow that was still falling around them; big, fat, fluffy flakes of it, fluttering down and catching the light from their flashlights.
“…I guess,” Sheppard said, sounding entirely unconvinced.
“You don’t like snow?”
Sheppard shrugged, and the only sound for a moment was their footsteps as they tromped through the snow together. Rodney could see Ronon and Teyla’s tracks disappearing ahead into the darkness, and already beginning to fill in again even though they couldn’t be that far ahead yet.
“Didn’t really see too much of it growing up,” Sheppard finally answered. “About all it’s good for in my books is making missions more miserable than they need to be. I’m surprised you like it, though.”
Rodney frowned. “And what is that supposed to mean?”
“Well, y’know, I just… Honestly, I expected you to be a little more… complain-y about the whole thing.”
“Excuse me, it’s not like I complain about everything,” Rodney said indignantly.
“There’s the sun, for one. Or, actually, any of them.”
“Suns burn, Sheppard. My skin is very fair! And after all the various and sundry radiation exposures I’ve been subject to, it’s a wonder I don’t already have—”
“There’s also sand.”
Rodney huffed incredulously. “Well, yeah. Sand. Gets. Everywhere! I mean, have you ever been to a beach?”
“There was Afghanistan,” Sheppard said mildly. “And I used to surf a lot,” he added, before Rodney could start feeling guilty about forgetting the whole… painful military history thing.
“Really? You know how to surf?” he asked, glancing sideways at Sheppard. Now there was a mental image…
“Sure. I could teach you, if you wanted. We do live on an ocean planet these days.”
Rodney perked up, though slightly nervously. “Really?”
“Yeah, ‘course,” Sheppard said, looking over at him. “It does usually involve sun, though. And sand.”
“Yes, well…” Rodney cleared his throat. “Sometimes those are acceptable. In limited amounts.”
Sheppard laughed. “Okay, so explain it to me, then,” he said, waving a hand vaguely in the air.
“Explain… what?”
“Snow. What’s the big appeal?”
“I don’t know… I guess a lot of it is just… good memories,” Rodney said thoughtfully. “Heh. Like, when I was little? We used to go visit my grandparents over the Christmas holidays, right. And they lived on this farm, way the hell out in the middle of nowhere. I hated the drive, but I always loved it once we were actually there. And if we were really lucky, it would snow while we were there, just like this. Most of my family lived there, so me and Jeannie and all the other cousins would pile onto sleds and toboggans, tie on to the back of Grandpa’s tractor, and he’d pull us all out to the long hill in the woods behind the big field to go sledding.”
“Okay, that does sound pretty fun,” Sheppard said. “Still hard to imagine you enjoying that, though,” he said— but he was smiling, and giving Rodney one of those weirdly soft looks he usually only wore when they were— when—
Rodney blushed, pulling his gaze away again. On duty, McKay. Come on. Get it together.
“It was great,” he said, trying not to let his minder wander. “There’d be a fire to warm up at, and we’d stay out there for hours, until it started getting too dark to keep going. And then we’d get pulled back home again, starving and already half asleep. Your mittens’d be soaking wet by then, too, but nobody cared. Y’know, it’s funny, I hadn’t even thought about those visits in years, but—”
Rodney cut off as Sheppard’s radio crackled to life and Teyla’s voice came through. “John, we are at the gate. Should we wait for you, or—?”
“Nah, you ‘n Ronon go on ahead,” Sheppard answered. “Rodney and I are just a couple minutes behind you. Leave the door open for us, willya?”
“Of course,” Teyla said, and the radio went silent again.
A moment later, Rodney heard the not-too-distant whoosh of the stargate establishing a connection. A few more meters through the trees, and he could see the ring out in its clearing, the rippling blue light of the event horizon shimmering out over the pristine snow, unmarked save for the double line of Teyla’s and Ronon’s footprints.
Beside him, Sheppard stopped walking and clicked off his flashlight. “Wait.”
“What is it, what’s wrong?” Rodney asked, tense, turning his off too and looking around nervously for imminent danger.
“Relax, Rodney,” Sheppard said, warm amusement in his voice. “I just meant— c’mere.”
Rodney’s eyes widened as Sheppard reached out and gently tugged him closer by the waist.
“Oh,” he managed, swallowing hard, his tongue darting out to wet suddenly dry lips. They didn’t normally even acknowledge that particular, and fairly recently developed, aspect of their relationship— friendship— whatever it was— while actually… on duty. “Shouldn’t we be, um, going through the, uh…” He trailed off, gesturing with one hand in the general direction of the stargate. His other hand had somehow found its way to Sheppard’s— no, John’s— chest and was currently holding on tightly to his jacket. “They’ll be waiting for us to come through.”
“They can wait another minute or two,” John said, his voice low and warm in a way that sent a little curl of heat twisting through Rodney’s core.
With the faint illumination from the gate spilling out and reflecting off the snow, Rodney could just barely make out the familiar, crooked smirk on John’s lips— and then those lips pressed against his, pulling a quiet whimper from his throat.
“I thought maybe you could help me out with the whole ‘good memories of snow’ thing?” John murmured a brief moment later, his forehead resting against Rodney’s and their breath misting the cold air.
Rodney nodded wordlessly, fisting both hands in the front of John’s padded military jacket. He still wasn’t entirely used to the idea that he’d… somehow fallen for Sheppard in the first place, let alone the part where John actually wanted him back… But he had, and John apparently did—
And as John kissed him again, deeper, arms tightening around him to hold him close, Rodney got blissfully lost in the sweet, wet heat of John’s mouth and the warmth of John’s body against his; all his constantly swirling thoughts and worries calming, quietly drifting away into peaceful nothing while the snow drifted silently down around them.

Rodney Wilson was the first openly gay high school teacher in Missouri. He felt that a month should be dedicated to the celebration and teaching of gay and lesbian history, so in 1994 he gathered other teachers and community leaders to create Gay and Lesbian History Month (now LGBTQ+ History Month). In 1995, a resolution forwarded by the General Assembly of the National Education Association formally added it to the list of commemorative months. It was also endorsed by GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and other national organizations.
October was chosen as the month of observance because public schools are in session, and because existing traditions occur this month. National Coming Out Day already existed as a holiday on October 11; the first march for gay rights in Washington took place on October 14, 1979; and the Second March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights took place on October 11, 1987.
LGBTQ+ History Month allows the opportunity to extensively learn about the history of the LGBTQ+ movement, and what factors and measures will be successful in building communities and providing role models who will best represent and address the issues of the LGBTQ+ community.
The month-long commemoration is most prominently celebrated in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Hungary, Brazil, and the city of Berlin. The particular month of celebration varies across different countries: in the United States, Canada, and Australia, LGBTQ+ History Month is celebrated in October; in the United Kingdom and Hungary, it is celebrated in February; and in Berlin, the holiday is celebrated in June and is known as Queer History Month.
LGBTQ+ History Month now also includes Ally Week, during which students are encouraged to be allies with LGBTQ+ members and stand up against bullying; Spirit Day on October 20, on which the color purple is worn in solidarity with LGBTQ+ youth; and the death anniversary of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old who was murdered in a hate crime on October 12, 1998.

Writing Tag Game
Tagged by @swaps55. Thank you, lovely! Tagging whoever wants to do this next!
How many works do you have on AO3?
Okay so this is slightly complicated by the fact that I have two pseuds, so for one it’s 22 and for the other it’s 11
What’s your total AO3 word count?
209021 and 48539
What are your top 5 fics by kudos? (there’s a chance I’m about to offend the hell out of some of my new followers but here goes.)(also this is all for my main pseud bc the top count on the other is 4)
What Remains - A Wincest fic featuring amnesia and a small town in Texas.
Shape I’m In - a hockey fic I coauthored
Never Lived a Time Better Spent In Love - a different hockey fic where two dudes retire and adopt a baby
Actually, Plenty - a sequel to the fic in the number one spot, written about six years after I posted the first one and left the fandom
Everything Changes, Everything Stays the Same - Wincest holiday fic. My greatest claim to fame in fandom is that astolat read this and recced it.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Always. As a reader it makes me sad when I have this big emotional feeling about a fic and gush about it to the author and it’s just crickets. Also I just appreciate the fuck out of anyone who takes the time to leave a comment and tell me that they liked something I wrote.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Oh definitely lathbora viran which is just this short one shot I did out of a much larger idea I had but just didn’t feel like writing. So I just wrote the angsty ending.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
You know, I don’t know? Like maybe You’re Good For Me (a hockey fic) because absolutely nothing bad or angsty happens in it at all? Like 95% of my fics end happily but I’m an angst queen so there’s always a black lining.
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
A couple. The first was literally twenty years ago when I put the popslash boys (and girls) into Anne McCaffrey’s world of Pern with All the Heart Can Know. (This is incredibly embarrassing so please don’t tell me if you click this link.)
I’ve also written jaeger curtain fic with the hockey boys in Pacific Rim, under Scenes From the Apocalypse.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not that I can recall. -- ETA that I forgot that I got blasted on the hockey anon for my first hockey fic, which I’ve since expunged from the internet because the main pairing involved someone who has since been accused of sexual assault.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I have. The smuttiest thing I’ve ever written is an Oiler boys threesome, Hold You Down.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’ve ever seen.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I did but it’s the fic that I’ve since expunged from existence.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Mildred, A College AU is a J2 fic I co-authored with one of my besties. I also coauthored the aforementioned Shape I’m In, which started its life as chat fic on twitter. That’s it so far. Co-authoring is so much harder than just doing it yourself though.
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
That I’ve written or read? I used to say that Rodney McKay/John Shepard from Stargate Atlantis were my OTP of OTPs and that still feels correct in my heart, but I’ve never written them. I honestly don’t know what my favorite ship to write is.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I’d love to have the motivation to finish anything, tbh. But I had so many plans for Scenes From the Apocalypse that I don’t think I’ll ever actually write down.
What are your writing strengths?
Conveying emotion with sparse phrasing, dialogue, making people cry.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Writing in anything other than tight third person present.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I’m of the firm belief that it should only be done if you get a native speaker to spot check you.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
I was rewriting scenes for The Princess Bride at 13, but the first fic I posted for was popslash and I am not afraid to talk about it.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Right now it’s gravity, my Julie and the Phantoms fic. I think it’s one that best displays my strengths and also one that you can really see my growth as an author if you’ve been with me the last twenty years. Also I read it out loud to my best friend while we were in the same room and we both had to take a cry break.

i hate slow season almost more than the holidays because management thinks it’s okay to cut all the part timer hours and all the full timers are left with absolutely zero support while management sits on their ass all day long. i’m so tired of all these managers making 4x what i make and still choosing to act like they have the worst job in the entire world.

The NYPD is stepping up patrols in Brooklyn neighborhoods with large Jewish populations after an uptick in possible anti-Semitic incidents. As many as eight suspected anti-Semitic incidents are being investigated, the most recent happening Friday [December 27, 2019] morning. Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a statement on Saturday expressing disgust at the spate of crimes, many of which have occurred during Hanukkah. "The cowards responsible for these despicable attacks are trying to inject fear into our Jewish communities, but New Yorkers will always band together and categorically reject anti-Semitism whenever it rears its ugly head," Cuomo's statement said. The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the spate of incidents. The incidents include one on Wednesday [December 25, 2019] on 13th Avenue in Brooklyn. A 40-year-old man dressed in traditional religious Jewish clothing was walking home when an unknown person approached him and blocked his path, cops said. The victim attempted to let the man pass and proceeded to walk around him when the man punched him in the face before fleeing toward 13th Avenue and 48th Street. The victim sustained a laceration to his lip. He refused medical attention... Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said of the crime wave that began on Dec. 13: "We treat them very seriously and we make sure that our investigators do their best to do what we can to bring the individuals to justice." In other incidents later in the week, a man wearing a hoodie walked into Lubavitch World Headquarters on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights at 7 a.m. Friday [December 27, 2019] and said he was going to shoot up the place. The man then walked away toward the Utica Avenue subway station. Earlier Friday, a group of three women reported being harassed and slapped on Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights...
Other incidents include an attack on a Jewish mother who was hit in the head while walking with her son in Brooklyn on Thursday [December 26, 2019] afternoon. The hateful act happened in the quiet area of West 6th Street and Avenue S in the Gravesend section. ...On Monday [December 23, 2019], a Miami man was charged with hate-crime assault after police said he made an anti-Semitic remark and attacked a man in midtown Manhattan. The 65-year-old victim was punched and kicked, suffering cuts, police said. ...All this followed the tragic murders earlier this month inside a Jersey City kosher supermarket.
"The overall Jewish community was reeling from what happened in Jersey City. Now to have to deal with this during the holiday season-during Hanukkah is so difficult," said Evan Bernstein, of the Anti-Defamation League. "I've already been in contact with a lot of Jewish leaders in the region and they're telling me just how fearful their constituents and congregants are." Eyewitness News has found there has been a 53 percent increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes in New York City this year compared to the same time last year...
