Papercraft commission of the client's characters Red (a mischievous fae under a curse to feel human emotions, which manifests via his magic shape-shifting tattoo!) and Mack (a sweetheart dragon boy who, like many dragons, loves treasure, and has decided that Red is the greatest treasure imaginable!). I really enjoyed their tender pose (gentle hands... aaaaaaa ;o;) and the big swirling magic spell (that particular paper is tricky to work with, but the shimmery holographic effect is totally worth it!).

Hello I am asking as someone who is not American and does not have a strong grasp of American regional accents. I know the Fleet accent has been talked about before but since it keeps getting remarked upon so much in all the non-Fleet POV books, I GOTTA know. How... how does Rich say peoples' names?? What does 'Rafael' sound like phonetically when said by the big boy???

The short answer is that he hits the first consonant/syllable--D and T noises very swallowed/softened--and then kind of makes a mouth noise in the general shape of the rest of it lmao. Which in Rafael's case means it ends up kind of like. Similar to "Raf-ale" if he's enunciating, and "Raf(vague vowel sound)" if he's not.

I’ve really been enjoying the Michigan Fleet series, and I think my favorite part is the worldbuilding! I loved how there was a symbol for nonbinary people that everyone understood. So I made myself a winged fish pin! It’s a rainbow trout (with extra rainbow!) with seagull wings, both species that are native to Lake Michigan. Can you please tag the other authors? WIP Wednesday

this is an excerpt from my (hopefully) upcoming story Delicate Objects, which i've been working on for the last two years. o_O i am this close to finishing it and i hope to have it ready for y'all within the next few weeks, but don't anybody hold me to that lol. enjoy these two being lovesick idiots together XD

Seeming satisfied now that Castiel is eating, Dean nabs the remaining piece of toast and takes a loud, crunching bite. The soft pleasured sound he makes has Castiel forcing his focus back onto his own slice of toast, thinking over the day and how it is still, somehow, only a handful of hours since he’s been back on Earth awake and walking. How he and Dean have had their share of conversation and silence today, but Castiel’s still not sure where they stand. 

Castiel watches Dean eat his slice of sweet escape with his eyes blissfully closed, and smiles faintly himself. A smudge of cinnamon streaks across the other man’s cheek, the tail of a shooting star, and Castiel wants to lay his fingertips there alongside it, sweep it up as he once swept up the debris of colliding nebulae. 

“I’m in love with you,” he blurts out, suddenly needing Dean to understand his meaning explicitly. Just in case it had been misconstrued. Just in case Dean still didn’t —

Dean goes very still, a prey animal sensing mortal peril. He swallows his mouthful of toast and looks up at Castiel, a cool sort of distance in his gaze. “Yeah, you made that pretty clear,” he says, gruff. Castiel’s insides snap like a rubber band against a wrist. 

Dean winces and clears his throat, shifting on his chair. “Uh,” he says, putting his toast back on the plate and dropping his hands to his thighs. “Sorry. What I mean is —” 

Suddenly unsure he wants to know what Dean means, Castiel says, “Don’t —” 

“Cas, look, I —”

“I had a nightmare,” Castiel says over him, afraid of whatever is swimming behind Dean’s eyes. Dean flinches like Castiel had moved to strike him. 

“You were — I was —” Castiel finds he can’t describe the dream at all, now, details dissolving into the echo of the feelings, spare impressions in clay. He hitches in a breath, and another, and feels the shift in the air vibrating between them when a tear drips from Castiel’s chin and splashes on the back of his hand. “No, hey,” Dean says in a voice that could, though it seems suddenly far, far away, easily lay even the most harrowed soul to rest. “Hey. Whatever it was, Cas, it wasn’t real.”  

Dean touches the back of Castiel’s wrist with featherlight fingertips. “This is real,” he murmurs. He wraps his fingers around the heel of Castiel’s palm, pulling Castiel’s hand to his chest and laying it over his heart. Holding him there, as if Castiel is the one who might disappear at any moment. 

Castiel’s own heart threatens to bruise against the inside of his ribs. This isn’t — it isn’t how they do things, this isn’t how they touch — 

“I’m real.” Dean’s voice is sandpaper-rough. “And I’m — I’m right here. Okay?” His face is open, unwavering, and it freezes Castiel’s lungs and turns his insides upside-down. “Whatever comes next, I’m right here.”

“Okay,” Castiel finally answers, his fingers curling into Dean’s t-shirt, just a little, as though he could simply hold Dean’s actual heartbeat cupped in his hand. “Okay.”

I'm inclined to say they both insist it was the other guy but Trimmer is the guy who like, climbed up Rich either out of panic or complaining the whole way needing to fix a light in their shitty hallway

roach — i feel like they did the Scared Primate Clutch the first time and grabbed each other and then given their relative masses it ended up with rich holding trimmer like a kitty

Kurloz approving of Hal not trusting them fully makes me wonder if there's very good reason for it. I'd love to hear what would happen if something ever happened that left them at their (or more specifically Kurloz's) mercy. Love your writing, a huge inspiration

kurloz has no real grasp on human norms or ethics so i think we're all probably lucky gamzee moderates him some. and then again, I think gamzee's perfectly happy to displace his own darker tendencies onto kurloz so he doesn't have to self-analyze more than he wants to.

It's interesting to think about what situations would let them off the leash, so to speak.

How does doing the books together work? I'm guessing or it looks like maybe roachpatrol writes them and splicketylit does most of the drawing and then rollerskatinglizard does the sales and posts and stuff? I want to write books some day and it seems like working with friends would make it easier, but how did you get some friends interested to help?? Did you think of a book and then go hey actually OOMF could help with that? Or was it something else? Thanks in advance!

Hm! I'll take this one point at a time I think, because there's a lot here.

RE: our roles, I think you're misapprehending the concept of "cowriters"! Which one of us has the energy and inspiration at any given time varies, but all three of us plot/brainstorm, write, and edit on all the books! We have strong points we tend to lean into--Skates is really great at the minutiae of publishing sites and advertising posts and compiling our rambling discussions into roadmaps, Roach comes up with world embroidery/texture/setbuilding details like it's his job, and on a good day I can turn outline into prose and check off edits at a pretty breakneck pace--but these books are our shared babies, and they wouldn't be the same books if any one of us hadn't been intimately involved in every step!

RE: establishing a cowriter situation, I can only speak for how we ended up cowriting; we were fandom friends first, playing with each other's OCs and ideas. Eventually someone broached the topic of "hey do you want to write an actual freestanding story about some of these goobers we've been making up?" and ever since we've been in a three-way discord chat, brainstorming our way forward as a group. :D

Addendum: Just to temper your expectations, I don't know that I would say that cowriting is "easier" than writing by yourself! It's easier in some ways--having other people to bounce ideas off of, being able to lean on your cowriters' strengths, etc--but it requires a LOT of trust both in your friendship and in your cowriters' skills, and even with both of those things there will still be friction! Multiple people all trying to create the perfect image of the pie-in-the-sky novel they're imagining are going to conflict sometimes, and resolving those moments can be hard on both the level of friendship AND of collaborating artists.

Roach compared it to gem fusion when I posted this in the group chat to discuss our thoughts, and I do have to corroborate that. Last time I started working on the next novel near one of my cowriters in person, we did glow and mesh into a huge sexy hottie with four arms. So you may want to be prepared for that, also. UoU

If you saw one of these books in a different post, no you didn't! I forgot I was going to group it with this one, haha. These were two of the smallest books I did this year! Not outright winners, but definitely some of the cutest little things. And both had such vibrant feeling to them (one motorcycle fic, one reno-centric anthology) that I was able to get out some of my NICE bright papers and fabrics to really match that feeling! I love it when I'm able to make pairings that feel this good to me :D

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BOILS AND GHOULS, TONIGHT I HAVE FOR YOU THE SINGLE WORST WAY TO COOK SWEET POTATOES

no but really After The Storm by @roach-works, @splickedylit, and @rollerskatinglizard has eaten my got dang brain, and I spent about 12 hours over the past two days inventing a recipe for blocks, aka a war crime against all root-kind.

My goal was to create a preserved food consisting only of ingredients that were food items in and of themselves, or in other words no nutritional supplements. At first I had nothing to go off of other than that each meal includes 2 blocks, they can be safely eaten on their own with no additional foods, and they are soy- and gluten-free, so my ingredients list was very arbitrary and consisted mainly tomato paste, Parmesan cheese, eggs, and rolled oats. I presented the preliminary idea on the ATS discord, where @onwardmotley pointed out some posts where the authors mentioned other clues which I had missed, most importantly that the main ingredients were sweet potatoes and fish, and Ammoth (doesn’t have a tumblr) worked out that the average baseline daily calorie intake in the Fleet would be around 3000 kcal. 

And thus I present to you... blocks.

recipe for a day's worth of (non-vegetarian) blocks:

ingredients: - 19 3/4  medium sweet potatoes - 180 grams powdered dried cod - 85 grams shellfish of choice - 40 grams sunflower oil - 27 grams powdered egg yolk - 10 grams powdered UV-exposed mushrooms - 6 grams salt - 3 grams dried spinach flakes

1) bake sweet potatoes in their skins until the skin is able to be pricked without resistance. 2) peel, saving skins. 3) steam shellfish until done 4) in a separate bowl, sift together cod, egg yolk, mushrooms, salt, and spinach powders. 5) combine sweet potato skins, shellfish, powder mix, and oil in a blender and pulse until homogeneous. 6) mash sweet potatoes until no lumps remain 7) using a mixer because otherwise your arm will fall off, mix paste into sweet potatoes until homogeneous. 8) spread onto dehydrator sheets and dry until the mixture reaches roughly the consistency of play-dough. 9) shape into 6 cubes of equal size and weight. 10) continue dehydrating until completely solid. 11) may the gods have mercy on you, because this thing sure as hell won't.

each block has 506 calories and at minimum 1/6 the daily requirement of every essential vitamin and mineral, is soy, gluten, and peanut free, and can withstand at least three times as much pressure as can be created by your straight white cis abled evangelical christian aunt when its Christmas and you are desperately trying to find an excuse to not visit.

I'm so incredibly proud of you (and roach and splick and everyone else) for the published(!!) books you wrote, and i am eagerly waiting for more! I love the boat boys series with all my heart and the fae shenanigans book was SUCH a snack, too! You're very creative and skilled <3

You're also such a cool person? You care a lot and you make a lot of efforts for others, but you also know your limits and try to take care of yourself, which i always appreciate. You're funny and cool and insightful, and i'm very happy to count you among my friends~
