Rolling Stone Magazine Top 250 Guitarists - The Omissions List
Once again, Rolling Stone Magazine puts together a list that no one asked for and it's a complete mess. Instead of analyzing craft and technique, Rolling Stone goes for popularity and mediocrity. Who in their right mind thinks that Joni Mitchell, not known primarily for her guitar work, is Top 10 material, but Slowhand himself, Eric Clapton only worth making it it to 35? Also, why is The Edge, probably the worst guitarist ever, have a place in the top 50 and Jose Feliciano, a master of classical style, not even crack the top 200? I can go on for hours about the inconsistencies, but for now, I will focus on the many guitarists that Rolling Stone left off.

You must face the age of not believing Doubting everything you ever knew Until at last you start believing There's something wonderful in you
Dame Angela Lansbury, who died at her home today in Los Angeles at the age of 96, is perhaps best known today as Jessica Fletcher in the acclaimed TV series Murder, She Wrote and in the Broadway stage plays and musicals in significant parts that Hollywood never gave her. But well before that, the Irish-British transplant to America (she and her family left Britain at the height of Nazi Germany’s bombing campaign of her home nation) made her career as mostly a character actress during the Golden Age of Hollywood. She may not have been a major star billed at the top of marquees and movie posters during her time while contracted to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), but she would come to be a recognizable figure to audiences of multiple generations – whether she might be playing a tough saloon owner with a belter of a singing voice, a schoolteacher just making ends meet, Elvis’ mother (despite a nine-year age difference), princesses and queens, the amoral and scheming wife of a political candidate, an emotionally manipulative mother, or a teapot matriarch.
She stepped onto a movie soundstage for the first time at seventeen years of age, while making Gaslight (1944) for MGM. Because she was still technically a minor, she had to be accompanied by a social worker while working on set. Despite this, director George Cukor and her co-stars (including Ingrid Bergman) treated her as equals, all of them recognizing right away her professionality and acting ability. Perhaps producers and studio executives might not have done the same, saddling her so often with character roles, but Lansbury – by all accounts – extended that same kindness Cukor and Bergman afforded to her to so many others over the decades, leaving a legacy that goes beyond whatever personal disappointments she may have had over the more considerable roles she never got to play.
Her distinction as Hollywood royalty came later in life, as our connections of Hollywood’s Golden Age are almost all gone.
Nine of the films Angela Lansbury appeared in follow (left-right, descending):
Gaslight (1944) – directed by George Cukor; also starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten, and Dame May Whitty
The Harvey Girls (1946) – directed by George Sidney; also starring Judy Garland, John Hodiak, Ray Bolger, Preston Foster, Virginia O’Brien, Kenny Baker, Marjorie Main, Chill Wills, Selena Royle, and Cyd Charisse
The Three Musketeers (1949) – directed by George Sidney; also starring Lana Turner, Gene Kelly, June Allyson, Van Heflin, Frank Morgan, and Vincent Price
The Court Jester (1955) – directed by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama; also starring Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone, and Cecil Parker
The Manchurian Candidate (1962) – directed by John Frankenheimer; also starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, and Janet Leigh
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) – directed by Robert Stevenson and Ward Kimball; also starring David Tomlinson, Roddy McDowall, Sam Jaffe, John Ericson, Cindy O’Callaghan, Ian Weighill, and Roy Snart
Death on the Nile (1978) – directed by John Guillermin; also starring Peter Ustinov, Jane Birkin, Lois Chiles, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Jon Finch, Olivia Hussey, I.S. Johar, George Kennedy, Simon MacCorkindale, David Niven, Maggie Smith, and Jack Warden
Beauty and the Beast (1991) – directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise; also starring Paige O’Hara, Robby Benson, Richard White, Jerry Orbach, David Ogden Stiers, Rex Everhart, Jesse Corti, and Bradley Pierce
Mary Poppins Returns (2018) – directed by Rob Marshall; also starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, Joel Dawson, Julie Walters, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, David Warner, and Dick Van Dyke

what tags do you use?
#straightbait tournament round (numeral) - for polls from a specific round of the straightbait tournament.
#straightbait tournament - any post generally about the straightbait tournament.
#singles tournament round (numeral) - for polls from a specific round of the singles tournament.
#singles tournament - any post generally about the singles tournament.
#honor the fallen - posts announcing the eliminated baits from completed rounds.
#announcements - important announcements such as start and end dates for each round and other information directly related to the tournaments.
#mod talks - casual posts and most asks. if you only want to see info that is prescient to the tournament, you can block this tag.
#(ship or character names) propaganda - propaganda for individual straightbaits.
#basics - posts concerning "vital" information, like rules and faqs, although i'm pretty sure that tag is busted atm, so this faq is kind of taking the place of those posts. you can find the original rules post here.
#other tournaments - posts promoting other tournaments, in which this blog has been tagged. there are some pretty cool ones in there!
what's your policy on ties?
only a perfect 50/50 counts as a tie. if one bait is even .1% higher than another, they win. i did this because i thought it would be funny and i also want to avoid tiebreaker rounds as much as possible
do you reblog propaganda?
yes! you are free to tag me in propaganda or to send it as an ask, although i may not reblog/respond to anti-propaganda (you're free to tag me though)
what are you counting as straightbait?
the definition of straightbait in this tournament is intentionally very loose, and the poll question is also vague on purpose (is it celebratory or derogatory? who knows). i've accepted submissions with more obvious examples of "straightbait", such as cases where m/f couples are teased but never get together, or couples who seem straight but are revealed to be queer. however, i've also accepted couples where they have some kind of weird fucking thing going on that could be interpreted a number of ways but isn't straightforward canonical m/f romance, "buried straights" who die after romance is confirmed, and a number of other things. i go more into this tournament's definition of straightbait here and here. i don't believe straightbait is an actual thing i'm just having fun and being sillay
why is this couple in the tournament if they get together canonically?
see above. in most cases where this question comes up, we're talking about buried straights. if the characters in question are queer, it is straightbait at least partially by virtue of those characters not being straight. and if neither of the above, the answer you are looking for will be in the propaganda.
you're free to argue about the validity of a straightbait in the tags, amongst yourselves, or in propaganda, but please don't come to me about whether a bait should or shouldn't be in the tournament
for more on queer characters being submitted to this tournament see this post and the tags of this post
what is The Policy?
i used to rb posts that i tagged with #as per The Policy. the policy says that any time i encounter a post on my dash that is related to one of the pairs in this tournament such that it could be used as propaganda, i have to reblog it. i decided to stop doing this because i realized it just biases the tournament in favor of the media tastes of my dash lmao
how were the matchups decided?
i sorted all my submissions into popularity tiers, then randomized matchups within each tier, so characters were matched up with others of equal or similar popularity to the best of my ability. tiers were based on how many submissions a pair received and how well they did in the singles tournament. there were five or six tiers in total, although it's been long enough since i made the bracket that i do not remember the exact number. if you ask me for more details on this there is a good chance i will no longer remember hdjshkdsj
what is the singles tournament?
the singles tournament was a preliminary tournament that i ran for every pairing or character that was only submitted once, hence "singles". i only automatically qualified straightbaits with more than one submission, so i did this to allow more submissions to enter the main tournament without having to create an absolute monster of a tournament. also a chance to see your blorbo in a poll at least once, even if they didn't qualify
what should i do if you've gotten something wrong?
send me an ask or a message, or leave me a comment! if you send an ask, please specify if you want me to answer it privately, as i will answer publicly by default. although be advised if i've made a typo in a poll option or poll title, i cannot edit it
what should i call you?
i've been referring to myself as straightmod/mod, but you can also call me karinyo! i use they/them, he/him, and ze/hir

Love In The Air: Love Sky Soundtrack
Tumblr media
After my post about the usage of “Fresh Breeze” on episode 9 and the connection it had with the scenes it appeared on, someone requested for me to do a list of the songs that appear on PrapaiSky’s scenes. Considering that I was already thinking about searching for the songs anyway, I decided to share the songs that I managed to found with anyone that my find it useful or was also looking for any of the songs.
Unfortunately, because Shazam not always find the musics that we are looking for, there are a few songs that I couldn’t find (mainly because it was not loud enough for the app to catch) but the number is less than a full hand so I don’t think it is that disastrous and, moreover, most of the background songs that played in those episodes are just instrumentals, with only two or three being musics with vocals.
For a more pleasant experience, I will distinguish them by putting the instrumentals in bold and the musics with vocals in italics, alongside the respective Spotify links (for those that I found).
The musics are in order in appearance in the episodes, and if anyone want to know the specific scene in which song appeared, I will gladly provide that information.
That being said, enjoy.

Just Before Dawn (1981) – directed by Jeff Lieberman (Squirm, 1977; Blue Sunshine, 1977; Satan’s Little Helper, 1995) and starring George Kennedy, Deborah Benson, Chris Lemmon, and Gregg Henry – features yet another hulking, machete-wielding psychopath jumping onto the big screen to slice and dice their way through a group of hikers in the wild woods of Oregon, USA. Is it an underappreciated gem or deserving of its status as a “lesser known” in the 80s slasher canon? The Grue Crew has something to say on that subject.
At the time of this writing, Just Before Dawn is available to stream from Wicked Horror TV.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Bill, will be Santa Sangre (1989), by director Alejandro Jodorowsky and producer Claudio Argento. As the tagline proclaims, forget everything you have ever seen!
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans – so leave them a message or comment on the Gruesome Magazine Youtube channel, on the Gruesome Magazine website, or email the Decades of Horror 1980s podcast hosts at [email protected].
