A quick visit to their website indicates that the eponymous merch is still “coming soon” in Fall 2022 and it’s now Spring 2023, so perhaps people have figured out that a DeuxMoi sweatshirt is not the flex they thought it was.

DeuxMoi has always only ever been just another way to make money on the internet. It’s click-bait writ large which preys on celebrity culture, the idolatry of fame and money, coupled with the basic human need to know how the other half lives.

The issue I have with DeuxMoi is that they publish rumors and lies as if they were facts and despite the disclaimers attesting to the fact that nothing is a guaranteed fact in their fact-free, boundary-free social media celebrity gossip hellscape, no one but nerds like me ever read the fine print. And they rely precisely on that fact to promulgate lies as if they were the truth, with impunity.

Despite the fact that this obvious CYA disclaimer is readily available in a simple Google search of the company, people will still believe whatever nonsense DeuxMoi publishes like it’s the gospel truth, and DeuxMoi thrives on the fact that it’s extremely difficult to dispel a rumor once its been spread around on social media.

Fake news hurts real people and destroys real people’s lives.

The fact that there’s a DeuxMoi novel and a podcast now, along with celebrity-affiliated merch instead of just branded sweatshirts and beanies indicates that making money via the extremely lucrative gossip entertainment industry is indeed their primary business. And there are most likely a lot of DeuxMoi bills to pay now in running that business.

But there’s a way to do that without relying on lies and rumors. Now that they’re a large company presumably with the assets to hire fact-checkers, why not just hire some and report the truth?

Because that would eat into their bottom line, so why bother, when the typical consumers of their brand apparently could not care any less about the actual truth.

And you’re right, Anon, who has time for the truth when a rumor gets them so much more traction and attention on the interwebz?

DeuxMoi captivates our gullible fame-obsessed society with lies about famous people, not to inform (because what they do off the clock is frankly none of our damn business) but for DeuxMoi to make themselves as much money as possible by exploiting famous people’s vulnerabilities and unabashedly presenting lies and rumors about them as entertainment to a hungry audience who feast on the foibles of the rich and famous.

The only remedy to this issue is for people to be smarter, savvier consumers of DeuxMoi’s pernicious rumors and the gossip-as-entertainment industry as a whole, and/or for DeuxMoi to post their CYA disclaimers on every single thing they present for public consumption. Otherwise they’re just lying by omission about their lying.

Much ado about Rocco

It's easy as humans to get so caught up in rumors/innuendo that we lose sight of what's in front of our faces.

Around the time of the GQ MOTY event I got a lot of asks from people who were concerned, anxious, angry, outraged, etc. about Rocco Liu and GQ, and the supposed bad blood between him and GG, and between GQ and GG, and who were concerned to see DD hanging out with him (and there was a fair amount of homophobia toward Rocco in all of this, which was troubling).

I repeatedly said I didn't see any reason to believe there was actual bad blood there, and I didn't think the rumors/interpretations that were circulating held any credibility. I repeatedly pointed out that there was no way DD was going to get cozy with a GG anti. I dealt with backlash and hate mail from BXG about it at the time.

Well, here we are now with GG collaborating with GQ/Rocco, so I hope that can put the entire matter to rest.

I also hope that we can all (myself included) take this as a lesson to reflect on our biases and our gullibility regarding gossip, and hopefully next time something like this comes up, approach it with a calmer, more skeptical mind.

I don't understand why some people just want to ruin lives for no reason! Who is so bored that they will make up some baseless rumors about idols who are just trying to live their lives like the rest of us?!

I feel awful for both Johnny and Haechan and having to go through all of this because some women girls though it would be fun to start a scandal. I've seen the recent pics of Haechan at the airport and he looks so tired (I mean, who wouldn't be after two different awful rumors are started about you in the span of 2 days), I just hope that the boys are okay and know that these supposed "fans" are crazy people who have nothing better to do with their time!

Fr this is so damaging to not only them and their company's reputations but also their own mental health and even feelings of safety in their own fanbase/community! I'm glad SM addressed the allegations but I also know there are some people who will never believe the debunking because it came from SM. As much as I don't like SM and wish they would do more protecting their idols, I believe their announcements about things like this. I just hope other people can do the same.

I wish the best for NCT and both Haechan and Johnny individually. This is all so messed up.

TIME FRAME: Mid 2020

REACTION: Many Carats were upset about her personal space being hacks and the leaking of what was going to be the first soloist to debut in SEVENTEEN. They praised the song and her vocals on it as it was going to be her debut to show her vocal talent.

A few sasaengs, back in mid 2020, had hacked into her iphone account that she uses to save and keep track of her music and photos and other things in her daily life. After looking through everything they had came across a snippet of a few of her solo songs and ideas for her debut solo mini album and had leaked it around 4:14 AM KST on JUNE 14TH. She was very upset and actually cried to some of the members behind the scenes when it happened as her, WOOZI, VERNON, and HOSHI worked extremely hard on those songs for two years prior. Although the song was leaked, many Carats were interested in her solo album!

☒ DATING DISASTER

TIME FRAME: Sometimes in 2016, 2018 - 2019, and 2022

REACTION: 50/50, some fans were happy their idols were in a relationship but others were extremely upset that SOONAH and their possible biases were in a relationship. The rumors from all years are sometimes still brought up. 

SOONAH is often victim to sasaengs leaking information about her dating history and relationships with other idols. Majority of the time the leaks are harmless with little to no context or facts to back up the claim that she is dating certain idols. The first dating rumor was around mid 2016 with her and iKON’s BOBBY. Both companies denied any leak and rumor stating the two had never been introduced before so them being together was untrue. In the timeframe of 2018 - 2019, she was wrapped in the dating rumors with three other idols; MONSTA X’s I.M., PENTAGON’s YUTO, ONF’s WYATT respectively. All companies responded say the pairing were not intimately close and were just close friends who were working on a project together. The most recent leak/dating rumor was with THE BOYZ’ JACOB. Neither companies nor the two of them spoke on the matter and some fans still ask to this day. 

☒ HOTEL FREAK OUT

TIME FRAME: Late 2022

REACTION: Many carats were worried for her and the members she was rooming with. No one was hurt but some items were stolen. Charges or other legal actions were not filed against them. 

While she was staying in a hotel room, for the FACE THE SUN TOUR, that she shared with fellow members WONWOO, VERNON, and DINO. She had just gotten off her hiatus and was able to join the boys in their BE THE SUN TOUR. While the four of them were out eating with other members, a group of sasaengs that were waiting outside the hotel for them to leave were able to get up to their room and break in. A few items of her were taken along with a few items of the other members. 

☒ RUDE PERSONALITY

TIME FRAME: 2014 - 2016

REACTION: Trainees were proved to be sasaengs + accusations were debunked. Some antis still bring this rumor up to the day. 

It was leaked once that she was a former JYP trainee from 2014 - 2016. A few former trainees had come out and said that she was extremely rude and had a arrogant personality while the four of them were trainees. She didn’t speak on the topic for a while until it really got to her where she had to take a mental health hiatus.

☒ GIRL FIGHT

TIME FRAME: Late 2020 - Early 2021

REACTION: The public thought that the reasonings behind her actions were justified for the most part. She had publicly owned up to her actions when the information was leaked and says she does not regret what she had done. She does sometimes joke that anyone can get it as she’s never lost any of the fights.

The information of her being in fights was one that came out of the blue. It was kept under wraps for a few years after it happened. It is a well known fact that SOONAH and JINSUNG from SOUR CANDY are extremely close as they were classmates for a while. And while little is known about the two’s relationship plenty of people knew that her and YEWON disliked each other to an extreme level. No reasoning for the two’s dislike for each other is known. They had fought behind closed doors a few times before it was leaked in 2021 of their fights.

It's been a pretty persistent melon off and on for a while, and the timeline that has been given seems to be correct.

Today was supposed to be the first table read, filming is supposed to start on the 6th and the day after is supposed to be the official casting announcement. Both Li Qin and DD are said to have already arrived in Shanghai for the first table read, so it seems to be true although there's no official confirmation yet.

From what I understand this is a nationalistic/propaganda historical drama set in the 1920's, called Brave the Wind and Waves. DD plays a bank employee who uncovers corruption. Li Qin is involved with the CCP and draws DD in, and together they overcome the enemy and glorify the party or something along those lines.

For those who are not familiar with Li Qin, she has worked with GG on several projects.

There have actually been a lot of fan wars already starting up between the two solo groups, and some of Li Qin's fans are threatening to boycott the drama if she moves forward with the project. Which is not the brightest, because this appears to be directly connected with the government. Everybody should just shut up and go along with whatever's happening for the sake of everyone involved.

This is the sort of project that can't be refused at this time in the industry. A lot of projects have dried up, and the industry is struggling. Such a role shows the people involved are in good standing with the government, and that can lead to better confidence among investors and directors for other projects.

But solo fan groups aren't exactly known for their selfless forbearance. 😅

Anyway, none of this is officially confirmed but it appears to be happening and we should learn more about it in the coming days.
